- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. We have quarterback updates from Miami,
- 0:20Speaker 1: from Carolina, and from Washington were earlier today. Ron Rivera
- 0:23Speaker 1: tried to put his comments back from whence they came
- 0:27Speaker 1: and with that, we welcome you to a Tuesday edition
- 0:30Speaker 1: of NFL Now on NFL Network. My name is andrews Aciliano.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Happy to have as always by my side, this well
- 0:35Speaker 1: dress guy. How are you, Steve Waite? I'm good? You
- 0:37Speaker 1: know what, Since that was such a great line right there,
- 0:40Speaker 1: I say we go for two the rest of the show.
- 0:42Speaker 1: See he did there. I'm gonna throw my full body
- 0:43Speaker 1: weight into this highlight now from Monday Night Football. Let's
- 0:46Speaker 1: do it a f C West at Arrowhead to wrap
- 0:49Speaker 1: up Week five. Derek Carr with one ninety nine on
- 0:52Speaker 1: the career of passing touchdowns coming into the game. He
- 0:55Speaker 1: would earlier throw two hundred of Davante Adams head here,
- 0:58Speaker 1: he's gonna get strip sacked by Chris Jump Wait, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Chris Jones was called for roughing the passer. Carl Scheffers
- 1:06Speaker 1: is the referee? Your thought? I mean, come on, that's
- 1:11Speaker 1: he stood the ball in his hands. He didn't try
- 1:13Speaker 1: to hurt him. He actually came up with the football.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Chris Jones came up big swing right there and it
- 1:19Speaker 1: would eventually lead to a Raiders field goal. The story
- 1:22Speaker 1: of this game, really other than that, was Travis Kelsey.
- 1:25Speaker 1: He's superhuman. He had only twenty five yards receiving, but
- 1:28Speaker 1: he had four touchdowns. Derek Carr kept him in the game.
- 1:31Speaker 1: They blew a huge he did nothing, and their number
- 1:34Speaker 1: seven team gets him back with his second long touchdown
- 1:37Speaker 1: of the day. Josh McDaniels with four and a half
- 1:39Speaker 1: ago is going to go for two, and he almost
- 1:42Speaker 1: got it. Some would say that Josh Jacobs did get in,
- 1:45Speaker 1: but he didn't. But he didn't. And so instead of
- 1:48Speaker 1: tying get the Raiders are down when now Steve they
- 1:50Speaker 1: got the ball back and after Davante Adams had a
- 1:52Speaker 1: catch called back on third down. What happened here? Oh
- 1:55Speaker 1: the receiver's it was, It's just it's it was the Raiders.
- 1:59Speaker 1: The stuff the Raiders have been doing all season long,
- 2:02Speaker 1: and little things like the Chiefs rally from down double digits,
- 2:06Speaker 1: they win, They beat the Raiders and shoves a guy
- 2:11Speaker 1: on the field afterwards, more of that coming up at
- 2:14Speaker 1: a second. That's an emotional game. So what I thought
- 2:18Speaker 1: wasn't I guess was it right? So? Um, but it
- 2:23Speaker 1: is what it is. The guys felt the same way
- 2:25Speaker 1: I did. So yeah, I think it gave us a
- 2:27Speaker 1: little juice. Probably. I don't believe I've seen you as
- 2:32Speaker 1: maybe annoyed on the sideline the Christian You guys are
- 2:35Speaker 1: trying to get me fined. I'm not gonna bit. I'm
- 2:38Speaker 1: just I'm not going there. I mean I can't. I can't.
- 2:40Speaker 1: I got it off my chest and he got it
- 2:45Speaker 1: off his chest. So he made the call he made,
- 2:47Speaker 1: and I got what I needed. Said. You just don't
- 2:51Speaker 1: know how guys are gonna respond. I mean, we have
- 2:53Speaker 1: a lot, we have a lot of the same players
- 2:54Speaker 1: I've been in some deficit games. At the same time,
- 2:56Speaker 1: we have a lot of new guys as well. Um.
- 2:58Speaker 1: And so for guys to respond and just to keep battling, um,
- 3:02Speaker 1: no matter we're down seventeen points, um, and and show
- 3:05Speaker 1: that we can fight back from anything. Um. That's what
- 3:07Speaker 1: you want to see out of any great football team. Raiders, Chiefs, Baby,
- 3:11Speaker 1: It's gonna bring it out of you man, especially Um,
- 3:13Speaker 1: you know, we started off a little slow. Um had
- 3:16Speaker 1: some calls not go our way, and got not only
- 3:19Speaker 1: us fired up with that entire stadium fired up, and
- 3:22Speaker 1: Arrowhead had our backs. We we we just rallied together
- 3:25Speaker 1: and really really fought through that one. The flip side
- 3:29Speaker 1: of this, however, is that the Raiders and we could
- 3:31Speaker 1: talk all you one about the two point conversion they
- 3:33Speaker 1: did that in the game in which they were up seventeen.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Did not think they lost the twenty nothing lead at
- 3:37Speaker 1: the half to Arizona. Kyler made his magic for the
- 3:39Speaker 1: Raiders blue a lead. Patrick Mahomes made his magic last night.
- 3:43Speaker 1: But the Raiders against Steve blow a lead they cannot close.
- 3:46Speaker 1: And this is what's so confound in the Raiders fans.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I mean, they've been in nothing but one score ball
- 3:51Speaker 1: games and they continue to self inflict the damage that
- 3:56Speaker 1: has them one for Here's a two point conversion. Okay,
- 3:59Speaker 1: the call is what it is. They felt that they
- 4:01Speaker 1: were driving. Josh Jacobs is a beast all night. But
- 4:05Speaker 1: look the play that really swung. It was a defensive
- 4:08Speaker 1: hold left the Chief's lineup four field goal. The field
- 4:13Speaker 1: goal is missed. They call a defensive holding on alignment
- 4:17Speaker 1: gives the Chiefs new downs. Four players later, Travis Kelsey
- 4:20Speaker 1: scores one of his four touchdowns. But you have things
- 4:22Speaker 1: over and over. The receiver's colliding at the end of
- 4:25Speaker 1: the ball game. Um, it's just if you, if you
- 4:28Speaker 1: follow the Raiders, you're just like, when are we gonna
- 4:31Speaker 1: get over this? Because they've done it just about every game.
- 4:34Speaker 1: It is a series of little mistakes. A lot of
- 4:37Speaker 1: Raiders fans, you're gonna say calls that didn't work against them,
- 4:40Speaker 1: or makeup calls are other things that happened, but little
- 4:42Speaker 1: mistakes had happened over and over, and Baldy, I don't
- 4:46Speaker 1: know how Josh McDaniels can stitch this up because they've
- 4:50Speaker 1: got a great string of games that seemed favorable to them.
- 4:52Speaker 1: But again, the little mistakes that keep on popping up
- 4:55Speaker 1: that costs them of these close ball games. Goes to
- 4:57Speaker 1: show that they're close, but close the only counts and
- 5:00Speaker 1: horseshoes will consider this too as well. Last year, and
- 5:03Speaker 1: obviously Gruden started the season and all the turmoil didn't
- 5:06Speaker 1: finish this season, they eventually made the playoffs. They were
- 5:08Speaker 1: seven and two in one score games. This year with
- 5:10Speaker 1: a new coaching staff, You tear it down kind of
- 5:12Speaker 1: sort of halfway, and you try to build it back
- 5:14Speaker 1: up around Derek Carr. This team is not winning these
- 5:18Speaker 1: one score games, and they blow a huge lead in
- 5:20Speaker 1: a division game which could have been a season swinger yesterday.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Now what everyone's talking about in your office today, and
- 5:26Speaker 1: that is the Chris Jones roughing the pastor. He came
- 5:29Speaker 1: down to the football, he stripped, he landed on the football.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Karl Scheffer is called roughing the passer. Here is what
- 5:35Speaker 1: Chris Jones had to say afterwards. They listen, this is
- 5:39Speaker 1: a Christian likely. Man, I'm gonna parade that I stay
- 5:41Speaker 1: off the quarterback. Okay, I had to pick him up
- 5:44Speaker 1: and carry them lay them down nowadays, man, you know,
- 5:48Speaker 1: but you know the relf, I get it. It happened
- 5:50Speaker 1: so fast, you know, and it kind of looked like
- 5:53Speaker 1: that initially. But when you actually look at through the
- 5:55Speaker 1: video and slow it down, you see how kind of
- 5:57Speaker 1: braced and the ref might have seen just a big
- 5:59Speaker 1: three hundred pound land on him. And I get it.
- 6:01Speaker 1: I get it. I'm not saying the ref is wrong,
- 6:03Speaker 1: but I'm just saying that those sit a asias can
- 6:05Speaker 1: affect the game tremendously, and I give Chris Jones credit.
- 6:09Speaker 1: He was calm and level headed, certainly helped him assuming
- 6:12Speaker 1: that they won. They won, but he said all the
- 6:15Speaker 1: right things. I don't think he's gonna get fined. This
- 6:17Speaker 1: is just me. Carl Scheffer's said, the quarterbacks in the pocket,
- 6:20Speaker 1: he's in a passing posture, he gets full protection. So
- 6:23Speaker 1: when he was tackled, my ruling was that the defender
- 6:25Speaker 1: landed on him with full body weight. The quarterback has
- 6:27Speaker 1: protected from being tackled with full body weight. He was
- 6:31Speaker 1: also asked guys that if this had gone to replay,
- 6:34Speaker 1: people say, hey, let's give us replay for these that
- 6:37Speaker 1: he believes that the replay still would have shown that
- 6:39Speaker 1: he landed upon him with full body weight, and it
- 6:41Speaker 1: did not matter that he did so with the football,
- 6:43Speaker 1: didn't matter that he caused and recovered a fumble. He
- 6:48Speaker 1: also pointed out Baldi that he is three hundred and
- 6:50Speaker 1: forty two and then he kind of raises, I rose
- 6:52Speaker 1: three forty five pounds, So how do you coach a
- 6:55Speaker 1: three pound man two? You don't live in the matrix.
- 7:00Speaker 1: You can't just stand him up in a hug him
- 7:02Speaker 1: like Max Crosby did what do you do well? Out
- 7:05Speaker 1: of the defensive linemen have changed the way that they
- 7:07Speaker 1: actually tackle these quarterbacks. Grady Jared did it and he
- 7:10Speaker 1: got flagged forward against Tom Brady on Sunday. But you know,
- 7:13Speaker 1: Carl Jeffers didn't have the advantage that I had this
- 7:15Speaker 1: morning of slowing it down and watching it over and
- 7:18Speaker 1: over again. And what Chris Jones said he actually did
- 7:21Speaker 1: pull off of Andrew. You can't see it in real time.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Carl can't see it from behind the right side of
- 7:27Speaker 1: the behind the line of scrimmage. He can't see it.
- 7:29Speaker 1: But right here when when uh, Chris comes down, he
- 7:32Speaker 1: actually pulls off a little bit, he doesn't put his
- 7:34Speaker 1: full body weight into him. And so can you go
- 7:37Speaker 1: to replay and then change the call? I don't know
- 7:40Speaker 1: that you're gonna see it and replay. Um, it was
- 7:43Speaker 1: easy to see this morning where Chris Jones he could
- 7:45Speaker 1: have drilled him and put his body weight into him.
- 7:47Speaker 1: I didn't see that from Chris, and so I feel
- 7:50Speaker 1: like we're in a real bad era right now, you know,
- 7:53Speaker 1: starting with what happened with to uh, what happened to
- 7:56Speaker 1: Teddy Bridgewater this weekend? Brady, like I I feels like
- 7:59Speaker 1: the rules are in place and they're good rules to
- 8:01Speaker 1: protect the quarterback. But I don't think we have to
- 8:04Speaker 1: go crazy about this thing right now, and I think
- 8:06Speaker 1: we're on that verge of doing that. Well. You know,
- 8:09Speaker 1: it's interesting because I heard a lot of discussion this
- 8:11Speaker 1: morning on talk radio and whatnot, is that every time
- 8:13Speaker 1: the NFL makes a change, it seems to be an
- 8:15Speaker 1: over market correction, right And I don't know if that's
- 8:17Speaker 1: the case right here. I don't know if the officials
- 8:20Speaker 1: have been told, hey be very sensitive to this, and
- 8:22Speaker 1: I get it if they are, again after seeing what
- 8:24Speaker 1: happened to it Tuckle byloa situation. But the Grady Jarrett
- 8:29Speaker 1: thing on, Tom Brady absolutely was not roughing. He did
- 8:31Speaker 1: not try to harm or spike. And Chris Jones didn't
- 8:33Speaker 1: do the same thing either, And Chris jon said right here,
- 8:36Speaker 1: the fact that you know it's weird. Usually see roughing penalties.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Once the ball is delivered, right, he's still on the
- 8:41Speaker 1: ball in his hands. I mean, Derek car still on
- 8:43Speaker 1: the ball in his hand, came up with the football,
- 8:45Speaker 1: with the football. This is something that could have absolutely
- 8:47Speaker 1: swung what was going on in the game. The chiefskip
- 8:49Speaker 1: possession deep in their own territory and they go and
- 8:51Speaker 1: put points on the board and things aren't as close
- 8:53Speaker 1: as they look right now. So again I'm sure this
- 8:56Speaker 1: will be reviewed and discussed a lot, but it's just
- 9:01Speaker 1: for everything to happen all on one weekend, and you know,
- 9:04Speaker 1: after the rule changes, with the concussion protocols or whatnot,
- 9:06Speaker 1: it just seems like an effort is being made to
- 9:08Speaker 1: be a lot more sensitive to it. Again, the the
- 9:11Speaker 1: point is very good, um, but just the fact that
- 9:14Speaker 1: it could it could have really impact the two outcomes
- 9:18Speaker 1: didn't in the CANTI the game, which it makes it
- 9:20Speaker 1: so much more going well, whether or not there's an
- 9:21Speaker 1: emphasis the officials are human beings here, right They watched
- 9:24Speaker 1: the TV, They're aware of what's going on in the league,
- 9:27Speaker 1: and you may obviously be more prone to make a
- 9:29Speaker 1: call on in the interest of safety and the interest
- 9:33Speaker 1: of caution. It's understandable and also by the letter of
- 9:35Speaker 1: the law, you can understand how both of those calls
- 9:37Speaker 1: were made. It's a question of how are these laws
- 9:39Speaker 1: written and how are they actually applied in real time
- 9:41Speaker 1: and at full speed where we have the benefit of
- 9:43Speaker 1: replay and we can go back and look at any
- 9:45Speaker 1: and everything and try to nitpick it. We're gonna get
- 9:48Speaker 1: back to this a little bit later. Kurt Warner called
- 9:49Speaker 1: that game will get a quarterback's perspective in a little bit,
- 9:52Speaker 1: Baldy Steve, thank you. There's another issue, however, from that game.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Mike Arri folow Tom Pellicero with me now for the
- 9:59Speaker 1: insider report, and that is Tom, what we saw with
- 10:02Speaker 1: Davante Adams going out of the stadium, going from the
- 10:05Speaker 1: field to the tunnel to the locker room where he
- 10:08Speaker 1: shoved the cameraman, a technician, somebody. They're exiting the field.
- 10:12Speaker 1: What's the latest there, Randy Raider's wide receiver, Davante Adams
- 10:15Speaker 1: faces league disciplined, potentially including a suspension, for shoving that
- 10:20Speaker 1: photographer after Monday Night's loss in Kansas City. Now, Adams
- 10:24Speaker 1: addressed this both with reporters in the locker room and
- 10:27Speaker 1: again on Twitter after the game, saying, in part, sorry
- 10:30Speaker 1: to the guy pushed over. After the game, obviously very
- 10:33Speaker 1: frustrated that the way the game ended, and when he
- 10:35Speaker 1: ran in front of me as I exited, that was
- 10:37Speaker 1: my reaction and I felt horrible immediately. That's not me.
- 10:40Speaker 1: My apologies, man, hope you see this well. Unclear if
- 10:43Speaker 1: the photographer saw it. What we do know is he
- 10:45Speaker 1: immediately went to the police after that incident occurred, filed
- 10:49Speaker 1: a police report alleging assault. The Kansas City Police Department
- 10:53Speaker 1: says that they are now investigating. The man's injuries are
- 10:57Speaker 1: not believed initially to be life threatening, according to the
- 11:02Speaker 1: Kansas City Police, So the NFL is reviewing this situation closely. Mike,
- 11:06Speaker 1: I would anticipate that we get a decision on suspension
- 11:09Speaker 1: or not today. At minimum, you would expect that there's
- 11:12Speaker 1: gonna be a fine for Davante Adams here. Yes, this
- 11:16Speaker 1: kind of feels like more than a fine, though, I mean,
- 11:18Speaker 1: there's really no comparison right here, because you know, it's
- 11:23Speaker 1: been Mike Evans for starting a little bru ho. It's
- 11:26Speaker 1: one game, but that's amongst other NFL players who are
- 11:29Speaker 1: wearing pads and kind of expect to be hit at
- 11:32Speaker 1: some point on the field, right I mean, your your
- 11:34Speaker 1: photographer just walking by. You're not expecting to be shoved.
- 11:37Speaker 1: You didn't show up there fully padded and expecting contact contacts.
- 11:41Speaker 1: So I'm really curious to see what the league is
- 11:44Speaker 1: going to say on this. Now, the Raiders have a
- 11:46Speaker 1: buy on Sunday. Uh, so if there's some kind of
- 11:49Speaker 1: appeal process, perhaps they'll, uh he'll have a chance to
- 11:52Speaker 1: really state his case. There's no rush in the same
- 11:55Speaker 1: sense that there would be if the Raiders were playing
- 11:57Speaker 1: this weekend. But I would say this. You know, you
- 12:00Speaker 1: watched the video there and Davante Adams saying he immediately
- 12:03Speaker 1: felt remorseful or what ever word he used in the
- 12:05Speaker 1: statement while he kept walking right past the guy. He
- 12:08Speaker 1: immediately felt that way and say, oh, wait a minute, sorry,
- 12:10Speaker 1: you shouldn't have done that. You're okay, my bad. He
- 12:13Speaker 1: just kept on walking there. So we'll see what the
- 12:15Speaker 1: league decides. Kind of feels like this is gonna be
- 12:18Speaker 1: something deserving of more than just to find. But we'll say, yeah,
- 12:21Speaker 1: we'll wait and see this one stuff. You know, it's
- 12:23Speaker 1: the player's field. However, there are plenty of guys, men, women,
- 12:26Speaker 1: working their professionals, doing their job at the best of
- 12:29Speaker 1: their ability. There's another angle that we didn't show. It's
- 12:32Speaker 1: from behind Adams and remember he's got a helmet on.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Periphery vision not the best, and peripheral vision not the best.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Where it seems like from the other angle, the guy
- 12:40Speaker 1: just cuts him off, no spatial awareness, and there is
- 12:44Speaker 1: a Darryl Jackson to the Super Bowl like arm extension
- 12:46Speaker 1: there clearly, But to your point, do you help him up?
- 12:50Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm glad, I'm I'm I'm not. You
- 12:52Speaker 1: don't wanna. We don't want to encourage any types of
- 12:56Speaker 1: violent instant gender on NFL fields, But Mike and I
- 12:59Speaker 1: have been sideline reporters and doing hits before games on
- 13:03Speaker 1: plenty of different stadium fields. One place where you need
- 13:06Speaker 1: to have your head on the swivel is walking by
- 13:09Speaker 1: the tunnel because there are players coming and going. Some
- 13:12Speaker 1: places will have security keeping people away. Other places apparently
- 13:15Speaker 1: it's like this where guys can kind of wonder wherever
- 13:18Speaker 1: they want to having your head down and walking directly
- 13:20Speaker 1: in front of a player. Again, not getting into legal
- 13:23Speaker 1: aspects of this, but I would say not real bright
- 13:26Speaker 1: by any person. That's the conversation Steve and I were
- 13:29Speaker 1: having off the air as well. It's like you're stepping
- 13:31Speaker 1: into the freeway there, right, You're stepping onto the highway.
- 13:35Speaker 1: You gotta look both ways, and to your point, right,
- 13:37Speaker 1: most stadiums immediately have people's security on either sides of
- 13:41Speaker 1: those tunnels with their arms out saying, hey, players are
- 13:44Speaker 1: coming in and out. All right, we're spending too much
- 13:47Speaker 1: time with that Tom Damian Harris injury update, real football
- 13:50Speaker 1: on the field here, what's his status in Foxboro? Well,
- 13:52Speaker 1: Andrew Damian Harris has a hamstring injury, still undergoing test,
- 13:56Speaker 1: but my understanding is he is likely to miss multiple
- 13:59Speaker 1: games here. This is going to be a more significant
- 14:02Speaker 1: type of a hamstring injury, and obviously those are always
- 14:04Speaker 1: hard to radict. But in the short term here it
- 14:06Speaker 1: certainly sounds like we're gonna get more of Romandre Stevenson,
- 14:10Speaker 1: who had a big game after Harris dropped out of
- 14:12Speaker 1: Sunday's big win over the Detroit Lions. So more Stevenson.
- 14:17Speaker 1: If you've got one of those guys in fantasy, that
- 14:19Speaker 1: would be the guy to play going forward. Okay, And
- 14:21Speaker 1: and if you're in fantasy and you're starting to Carolina quarterback,
- 14:23Speaker 1: it's probably p J. Walker this week. That's right. Bigger
- 14:26Speaker 1: Mayfield got second opinions on that high ankle sprain, which
- 14:29Speaker 1: basically confirmed what they already knew. There's not major damage
- 14:33Speaker 1: in the ankle, though, of course, a high ankle sprain
- 14:35Speaker 1: always means that you've got damaged ligaments in your ankle.
- 14:37Speaker 1: This is not an injury that is going to require
- 14:39Speaker 1: surgery either for Mayfield, and I'm told the Panthers right
- 14:43Speaker 1: now are not putting him onto injured reserve. That leaves
- 14:46Speaker 1: open the possibility Mayfield could come back sometime within the
- 14:49Speaker 1: next four games. He's a guy who's always played through
- 14:52Speaker 1: a lot of injuries. He's got a high pain tolerance. Realistically, though,
- 14:55Speaker 1: the recovery is more like two to six weeks somewhere
- 14:58Speaker 1: in there. So in the short term here, p It's
- 15:00Speaker 1: gonna be p J. Walker time started on Sunday against
- 15:03Speaker 1: the Rams. Yeah, you can try to will it into happening.
- 15:07Speaker 1: You playing on a high ankle spran doesn't work that way.
- 15:09Speaker 1: You can just ask Mac Jones and the Patriots. You're
- 15:12Speaker 1: talking multiple weeks here. For Baker Mayfield, it's about mobility.
- 15:15Speaker 1: It's about the ability, uh to stand on a stable ankle,
- 15:18Speaker 1: and with a high ankle spraining, that's really difficult to do.
- 15:21Speaker 1: So yeah, I think multiple games at the very least
- 15:24Speaker 1: for Baker Mayfield is a fair assessment of this one.
- 15:27Speaker 1: And as you guys are speaking on Nathaniel Hackett, according
- 15:29Speaker 1: to R James Palmer just said he does expect is
- 15:32Speaker 1: we had all said on Sunday that Russell Wilson will
- 15:35Speaker 1: play this coming Monday for the Broncos. Thank you, Mike Garrell,
- 15:38Speaker 1: Folo and Tom tell Us Saro gentlemen. Back a little
- 15:42Speaker 1: bit later coming up next. Oh yeah, just the Eagles
- 15:44Speaker 1: and Cowboys coming up on Sunday night in Philadelphia. What
- 15:48Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts has in store for that Dallas defense and
- 15:50Speaker 1: assuming it's Cooper rush, the Cowboys answer back with that's
- 16:04Speaker 1: that is intercepted. Intercepted. The big boys are now starting
- 16:09Speaker 1: to impose their will. Centers and pets go a round,
- 16:16Speaker 1: rushed up run sack. Yes A J. Brown Collard put
- 16:22Speaker 1: the house tall, he goes pick it up now boys
- 16:26Speaker 1: with never a job, he gonna be fun. Yeah, if
- 16:31Speaker 1: I have it O four and one, What a game
- 16:33Speaker 1: we have Sunday night in Philadelphia. That Dallas pass rush,
- 16:36Speaker 1: which beasted on the Rams banked up offensive line, comes
- 16:40Speaker 1: in chasing Jalen Hurst with twenty sacks, second of the
- 16:43Speaker 1: NFL behind the forty Niners. Jerry Jones, it should be fun. Huh.
- 16:48Speaker 1: I'm so impressed with really, the way Philadelphia has evolved
- 16:53Speaker 1: and gotten where they are, that is going to be
- 16:57Speaker 1: a real challenge for us up there. They've they've got
- 17:01Speaker 1: they've got the goods, and so we're going up there,
- 17:05Speaker 1: uh Sunday. And if what is exciting is that, I
- 17:11Speaker 1: don't know when I've felt any better about going in
- 17:14Speaker 1: to the Philadelphia even though they've got one of the
- 17:18Speaker 1: best teams as Van nyears. Uh, it's called mojo. It's
- 17:23Speaker 1: called mojo, it's called Cooper Rush and all likelihood as
- 17:26Speaker 1: well as Jerry Jones did say today that the thing
- 17:28Speaker 1: for Dak Prescott is how well he could spin the ball.
- 17:31Speaker 1: He said spin a whole bunch of times, as if
- 17:34Speaker 1: we're talking about spin right before the baseball playoffs tonight.
- 17:36Speaker 1: But expect Cooper Rush and obviously expect a good game.
- 17:39Speaker 1: We would have to think, Steve from Jalen Hurts, this
- 17:41Speaker 1: offense took a little bit to get going there a
- 17:44Speaker 1: second half or second quarter team, I beg your pardon
- 17:47Speaker 1: most of the time we saw that last week. What
- 17:48Speaker 1: kind of challenge are they thrown at the Cowboys this week? Yeah?
- 17:50Speaker 1: I mean, and Baldi, I think you agree with me
- 17:52Speaker 1: on this. This is one more Jalen Hurts mobility, whether
- 17:55Speaker 1: it's skeleton runs, what's moving the pocket was. This is
- 17:58Speaker 1: gonna be key because the Cowboys have really only played
- 18:01Speaker 1: one mobile quarterback in Daniel Jones, and they and they
- 18:03Speaker 1: really did well against him. They used to buy some time,
- 18:05Speaker 1: they got different types of pressures, but we know the
- 18:08Speaker 1: way Dallas likes to get upfield on their pressures. You
- 18:10Speaker 1: move him like this, it's gonna make it a little
- 18:13Speaker 1: bit tougher for Michael Parsons to catch up to a
- 18:15Speaker 1: Losive quarterback. They're not gonna have much time. We know
- 18:17Speaker 1: that he goes old line is good, but Hurts isn't
- 18:19Speaker 1: gonna have a whole lot of time. So they're gonna
- 18:21Speaker 1: have to use him on some scheduled runs and do
- 18:23Speaker 1: some things to keep that de front chasing because Dallas
- 18:26Speaker 1: is d fronts from the best in the NFL ball. Well,
- 18:30Speaker 1: it's the strength of Jalen Hurts is you know when
- 18:33Speaker 1: to run and how to run, how to protect himself.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Teams have not been able to force him into mistakes
- 18:38Speaker 1: so far. Skip He's throwing two interceptions in five games.
- 18:41Speaker 1: He has not lost to fumble ball securities, Paramount tam
- 18:45Speaker 1: and to the team. He does play behind a very
- 18:47Speaker 1: good offensive line, Lane Johnson playing as well as any
- 18:50Speaker 1: tackle left or right in the whole league. Right now,
- 18:53Speaker 1: he's on his game. They had a bunch of banged
- 18:55Speaker 1: up guys on the left side. But let's let's face
- 18:58Speaker 1: it that the Cowboys have feasted and this four game
- 19:01Speaker 1: win streak on broken down, beat up offensive lines. They've
- 19:04Speaker 1: got eighteen sacks, forty three quarterback hits against Washington, against
- 19:08Speaker 1: the Rams, against Cincinnati. There's a little different test in
- 19:12Speaker 1: Philadelphia this weekend. But to your point, Steve Jalen Hurts
- 19:15Speaker 1: has been extremely pragmatic about when to break the pocket,
- 19:19Speaker 1: when to get out, keeping his eyes down the field. Uh.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Jerry Jones said, he has evolved, the team has evolved,
- 19:25Speaker 1: and they have because of his development. This is also
- 19:28Speaker 1: a different test here for Cooper Rush, who one last
- 19:30Speaker 1: week lost a couple of fumbles. Miraculously both came right
- 19:33Speaker 1: back to the Cowboys. He completed only ten passes Steve
- 19:36Speaker 1: ten in winning a road game against a defending Super
- 19:39Speaker 1: Bowl champion. But for years the Cowboys fans, many of them, said,
- 19:43Speaker 1: give Tony Pollard the baltmore, give Zeke the baltmore. Let's
- 19:45Speaker 1: get back to the old Zeke. They ran sixty percent
- 19:49Speaker 1: of the time last week. Can they do it like
- 19:53Speaker 1: that against Philly. They're gonna have to and as Baldi
- 19:56Speaker 1: said this and you said second and third quarter team, right,
- 19:59Speaker 1: So they're gonna have to set the tone early. They're
- 20:01Speaker 1: gonna have to get some points on the board in
- 20:03Speaker 1: the first quarter and not behind. So they can't run
- 20:06Speaker 1: the ball. Because you look at most of their games
- 20:08Speaker 1: and the Zeke Pollar tandem has been fantastic. It has
- 20:11Speaker 1: really alleviated the need for Cooper Rush to make plays.
- 20:14Speaker 1: And that's in part also because Dallas' defense has allowed
- 20:17Speaker 1: them to play close games. They haven't fallen behind, no
- 20:21Speaker 1: huge deficits trying to make up by throwing the ball.
- 20:23Speaker 1: So this is gonna be paramount in this game, and
- 20:25Speaker 1: this is gonna be tough, he said, we're talking about
- 20:27Speaker 1: Dallas's defensive front. The Eagles are no joke all the
- 20:30Speaker 1: way through, so their run defense is really strong. So
- 20:33Speaker 1: Baldi to me, Dallas has got to have this this
- 20:36Speaker 1: Russian combo work as well as it did against the
- 20:39Speaker 1: Ramps for them to have an opportunity to get points
- 20:41Speaker 1: on the board, which again it's gonna be a paramount
- 20:42Speaker 1: against the Eagles offense. Well, the Eagles last week against
- 20:46Speaker 1: Arizona on Rundowns, they went big and they went to
- 20:49Speaker 1: a jumbo package. It took a linebacker up the field
- 20:52Speaker 1: for Jordan Davis on the nose, played twenty nine snaps
- 20:54Speaker 1: on top of the center of the Arizona Cardinals uh
- 20:57Speaker 1: sandwich between Fletcher Cox and Jabon Hardgrave. They got Josh
- 21:00Speaker 1: Sweat and Hassan Reddick outside one linebacker t J. Edwards.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I believe the Cowboys will see that defense and it
- 21:06Speaker 1: will be a test to what they do with Tyler
- 21:09Speaker 1: Smith and whoever is that left guard, maybe the former
- 21:12Speaker 1: Eagle Jason Peters, and there's something and that's gonna be
- 21:15Speaker 1: the test because the Eagles have they have a defensive
- 21:18Speaker 1: scheme that they busted out last week that if the
- 21:20Speaker 1: Cowboys want to try to run it like that on Rundowns,
- 21:24Speaker 1: all right, let's go. Let's let's get it on. It
- 21:26Speaker 1: will be a good South Philly street fight if that happens.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Eagles number ten this year against the run. Cowboys have
- 21:33Speaker 1: some success of late, seven of nine against Philadelphia, scored
- 21:37Speaker 1: ninety two points against the Eagles in two games last year.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Coming up next, how do you fix the rams? Are
- 21:45Speaker 1: there problems deeper than just old line issues? And what
- 21:50Speaker 1: about rough in the passer? Kurt Warner Hall of Fame
- 21:54Speaker 1: QB perspective. Straight ahead, let's get a quarterbacks perspective on this. Now,
- 22:02Speaker 1: a gold jacket quarterbacks perspective on this. Kurt Warner joins
- 22:06Speaker 1: us from the QB room. And Kurt, you were at
- 22:08Speaker 1: the game last night. You're calling it on Westwood One
- 22:10Speaker 1: with Kevin Harlan. So we have the Chris Jones play
- 22:13Speaker 1: and I know you saw the Grady Jarrett play as well,
- 22:15Speaker 1: And I want to be careful. I don't want to
- 22:16Speaker 1: make this well, Hey, when I was playing meeting you,
- 22:19Speaker 1: we used to get hit and it was more of
- 22:21Speaker 1: a game and and all this. Do the quarterbacks think
- 22:25Speaker 1: that this is being over officiated? As grateful as they
- 22:29Speaker 1: are for the protection, You're right, Andrew. I think we're
- 22:34Speaker 1: grateful and guys are playing longer because of you know,
- 22:37Speaker 1: some of the rules that they have in place. But
- 22:40Speaker 1: I think if you talked to these quarterbacks to a man,
- 22:44Speaker 1: they'll take the benefits that come from it. But they
- 22:47Speaker 1: want everybody to be able to play football. And you
- 22:50Speaker 1: know what we saw last night from Chris Jones was
- 22:52Speaker 1: him making a football play. Is he was going through
- 22:54Speaker 1: the quarterback to get the ball. He ends up getting
- 22:56Speaker 1: the ball out and yes, he ends up landing on
- 22:59Speaker 1: Derek Carr, which by the letter of the law, your
- 23:02Speaker 1: body weight falls on the quarterback, it's a penalty. I
- 23:06Speaker 1: understand how hard, how hard it is for the officials.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I understand how fast the game is and how hard
- 23:11Speaker 1: it is to see all the different aspects that go
- 23:14Speaker 1: into it. Um, So we've got to figure something out
- 23:18Speaker 1: because we've got to allow the defensive players to make
- 23:21Speaker 1: these sort of plays. It's what they do. Yes, we
- 23:24Speaker 1: want to stop it from being excessive. We all know
- 23:26Speaker 1: what happened a week ago Thursday, what happened with tah
- 23:30Speaker 1: and I think that directly led to what we saw
- 23:33Speaker 1: with Tom Brady in the incident with J. D. Brady. Garrett,
- 23:37Speaker 1: sorry Jarrett, and um, you know, it was one of
- 23:40Speaker 1: those situations where you saw the speed of of the
- 23:43Speaker 1: you know, the twist, but then he kind of let
- 23:46Speaker 1: up at the end and it wasn't nearly as physical
- 23:49Speaker 1: going to the ground, and so you'd like to see
- 23:51Speaker 1: them go Okay, in that particular case, We're not gonna
- 23:54Speaker 1: find Grady in that particular situation. So, um, you know,
- 23:59Speaker 1: you see both sides of it, you understand both sides
- 24:01Speaker 1: of it. We've got to continue to to work through
- 24:04Speaker 1: this to make sure that we get it right moving
- 24:07Speaker 1: forward so guys can play the game and it doesn't
- 24:10Speaker 1: dictate the outcome of games, while still making player health
- 24:14Speaker 1: and safety a priority. We have the numbers here and
- 24:16Speaker 1: roughing the pastor through five weeks. These numbers may surprise people,
- 24:20Speaker 1: despite the fact that we've had two very big, high
- 24:22Speaker 1: profile calls these last two days. Roughing the passer calls
- 24:26Speaker 1: are down by nearly fifty percent from last year, forty
- 24:30Speaker 1: eight through five weeks last year, only twenty five this year.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Just some perspective here as we look towards week six.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Kurt the Rams looking towards week six, get the Carolina
- 24:39Speaker 1: Panthers in here, but they do so with an all
- 24:41Speaker 1: likelihood a six different starting old line combination in six weeks.
- 24:45Speaker 1: For Sean McVeigh, it's mind boggling. They can't keep anyone
- 24:48Speaker 1: healthy and Matthew Stafford has taken a beating back there,
- 24:50Speaker 1: sacked over twenty times Obviously they have those issues, But
- 24:54Speaker 1: do you see more schematic issues or bigger issues here
- 24:58Speaker 1: that maybe aren't protection and old line related. What do
- 25:03Speaker 1: you see when you turn on the tape. I think
- 25:07Speaker 1: it all stems back to that, because when we know
- 25:09Speaker 1: a Sean McVeigh offense, it really starts with the run game,
- 25:12Speaker 1: and it starts with creating big play opportunities off of
- 25:16Speaker 1: play action. So all of that obviously is intertwined with
- 25:20Speaker 1: the offensive line. I think what you're seeing is all
- 25:22Speaker 1: of it kind of coming crashing down right now. Is
- 25:25Speaker 1: we all know how great Cooper cup is, but they
- 25:28Speaker 1: don't necessarily have that every down receiver that can stretch
- 25:31Speaker 1: the field that can give them those big plays. So
- 25:34Speaker 1: now their drives almost seem to have to be ten
- 25:38Speaker 1: and twelve play drives every single time they step on
- 25:41Speaker 1: the football field. So now that accentuates the issues with
- 25:45Speaker 1: the offensive line because you're not getting fifty and sixty
- 25:48Speaker 1: yard chunks at any given time or as much as
- 25:51Speaker 1: they used to. And so I think it all just
- 25:53Speaker 1: kind of snowballs because of the issues they're having up front,
- 25:57Speaker 1: and they're behind the eight ball. They're having to work
- 26:00Speaker 1: too hard to get points on the board, and it's
- 26:03Speaker 1: really tough to sustain if you can't win the line
- 26:05Speaker 1: of scrimmage. And they they miss Van Jefferson huge. People
- 26:10Speaker 1: want to talk about O'Dell and Allen Robinson. Blame Allen Robinson.
- 26:13Speaker 1: They miss Van Jefferson in my eyes more than anyone.
- 26:15Speaker 1: They probably get him back after the bye. Got to
- 26:17Speaker 1: get to the bi however, with a win over Carolina
- 26:20Speaker 1: coming up on Sunday. Also, Kurt wanted to say happy anniversary.
- 26:25Speaker 1: This on Twitter today twenty five years ago. Today, she
- 26:29Speaker 1: says she would still choose you. You're spending your anniversary
- 26:33Speaker 1: talking to me with technical difficulties. I hope you have
- 26:36Speaker 1: something planned big later that we're working on it. Yeah,
- 26:41Speaker 1: twenty five years, it's it's awesome. I found myself a
- 26:44Speaker 1: good one. As they say in football analogies, I outkicked
- 26:47Speaker 1: my coverage. UM. But it's been twenty five good years
- 26:50Speaker 1: and she's stuck with me through the entire journey and
- 26:53Speaker 1: even to this day. I know she wishes I was
- 26:55Speaker 1: fully retired but still working, as you said, even on
- 26:58Speaker 1: our anniversary, but uh, you know, I I choose her
- 27:02Speaker 1: every day of the week. Twice on Sunday's UM and
- 27:05Speaker 1: say it's been a great ride. We love her as well,
- 27:06Speaker 1: and thank Brenda from all of us here in the
- 27:08Speaker 1: network for letting us share you every day, but especially
- 27:10Speaker 1: here on your anniversary as well. Happy anniversary, Kurkurt Wander,
- 27:13Speaker 1: everybody our Hall of Fame quarterback with us every week.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Stop it up next, Josh Allen and the Bills are
- 27:21Speaker 1: where in the power rankings? Uh huh, alright, gonna take
- 27:28Speaker 1: callers Mike and Philly next. Dan Hans has puts these together.
- 27:37Speaker 1: I believe he did so from a pub last night
- 27:40Speaker 1: in London. Dolphins beat the Bills. Steve the Dolphins are
- 27:44Speaker 1: number three behind Yeah, I see, and that's clearly where
- 27:48Speaker 1: he's taking the injuries into into account. I'm getting in
- 27:51Speaker 1: the mind of Dan Hans. You are taking me into
- 27:53Speaker 1: dangerous territory right now as he's probably trying to find
- 27:56Speaker 1: Ted last. Dan actually is Jim Henson, and he's got
- 27:59Speaker 1: his hand up Steve's back and he's kind of right now.
- 28:03Speaker 1: I probably would have had them higher, but this is
- 28:05Speaker 1: and we're Dan's not trusting his eyes and he's trusting
- 28:07Speaker 1: his gut. I think Dan's not trusting his gut. He's
- 28:10Speaker 1: trusting is the whiskey in front of him. I didn't
- 28:13Speaker 1: mean it to get like this. Dan Hansis goes to London,
- 28:18Speaker 1: comes back and then sleeps in for a week, and
- 28:20Speaker 1: then this is what happens. Yeah, ship me back in
- 28:22Speaker 1: a body bag. I mean we were a nice to it.
- 28:25Speaker 1: These are the new Power Rankings. Look at this, They're
- 28:28Speaker 1: on NFL dot com slash Power Rankings. You could hear
- 28:30Speaker 1: that Dan is back with us at the desk. We
- 28:31Speaker 1: have Steve White, who filled in admirably trying to translate
- 28:34Speaker 1: the Power Rankings the last couple of weeks when Dan
- 28:36Speaker 1: and the Around the NFL podcast were on the road.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Not sanscript. It's not san script like you're here to
- 28:40Speaker 1: defend you. Welcome home. By the way, we're an easy
- 28:43Speaker 1: empty chair punk. Yeah, I get it. That's part of
- 28:46Speaker 1: the Power Rankings responsibilities for everyone to tell you you're wrong,
- 28:49Speaker 1: but accept that challenge. Okay, we have callers waiting from
- 28:53Speaker 1: Philadelphia that would like to know why the undefeated Eagles,
- 28:55Speaker 1: the only remaining undefeated team at the National Football League,
- 28:58Speaker 1: are number two behind a one lost Bills team. Because
- 29:01Speaker 1: I could not sleep at night if I didn't tell
- 29:06Speaker 1: the public from the Power rankings perch that the Bills
- 29:09Speaker 1: are the best team in You're trolling Philly fans are
- 29:11Speaker 1: not purposely, but it is how it turns out to feel.
- 29:15Speaker 1: And I'm sure in my mentions right now that's the
- 29:17Speaker 1: way it is. But I think the Bills are the
- 29:19Speaker 1: best team in football. We see it week after week.
- 29:23Speaker 1: They are loaded on both sides of the ball, and
- 29:25Speaker 1: you know, they make the Steelers look like a peewee team,
- 29:29Speaker 1: and it's it's not a shot against the Eagles. I
- 29:31Speaker 1: just think that if you put these teams on a
- 29:34Speaker 1: neutral field, the Bills are the best team in football
- 29:36Speaker 1: right now. But I get you saying that because when
- 29:38Speaker 1: they win, they win. But what is Philadelphia done to
- 29:41Speaker 1: take a step back? Right They've shown they can win
- 29:44Speaker 1: in every possible way. Big plays, run game, defense, takeaways.
- 29:49Speaker 1: I mean, styles make fights, and I think this is
- 29:52Speaker 1: one where if you put them on a neutral field,
- 29:54Speaker 1: Philadelphia could be right there. But more than anything, Dan,
- 29:58Speaker 1: because I really kind of you know, the Bills might
- 30:00Speaker 1: be the best team, but I just tell you what
- 30:02Speaker 1: Philadelphia did to fall back. Yeah, and maybe it wasn't
- 30:05Speaker 1: such an impressive win in the desert against Arizona. Maybe
- 30:09Speaker 1: that was just enough style point, just enough. Well, we'll
- 30:12Speaker 1: find out a lot more about it on Sunday. They
- 30:15Speaker 1: get the Cowboys, who are now number ten. They are
- 30:17Speaker 1: up three with Cooper Rush. Somehow the Cowboys behind the
- 30:20Speaker 1: Bengals who are down three. But we'll get into that
- 30:22Speaker 1: a little bit later. Dan is wearing a Yankees T
- 30:25Speaker 1: shirt earlier today, so just know where he is born
- 30:27Speaker 1: and raised. Both New York teams are moving up. You
- 30:31Speaker 1: have the Jets up nine to seventeen. You'll get to
- 30:35Speaker 1: them at a second. The Giants are up six to thirteen.
- 30:38Speaker 1: The Giants are the thirteenth best team in football. And
- 30:41Speaker 1: it may the way you set it up there, not intentionally.
- 30:43Speaker 1: I don't think you make it sound like maybe I'm
- 30:45Speaker 1: a New York homber, but this is just these are
- 30:47Speaker 1: good times for New York football and there has not
- 30:49Speaker 1: been this vibe in a long time. With the Giants. Steve,
- 30:52Speaker 1: we were just talking in the newsroom. Are they frisky? No,
- 30:55Speaker 1: they might be spicy, and maybe frisky and spicy. And
- 30:59Speaker 1: you see the way this team plays and they're always
- 31:02Speaker 1: in a game, and they're well coached. And on the
- 31:04Speaker 1: Jet side, they got playmakers. They Joe Douglas deserves major
- 31:08Speaker 1: credit because all these draft picks that we talked about
- 31:11Speaker 1: in May, Oh, that looks like a really good class. Oh,
- 31:13Speaker 1: it is a good class. These guys can play in
- 31:15Speaker 1: the Packers don't be careful. The Jets gonna put up
- 31:17Speaker 1: thirty on them at again, Lambeau. It's hard to Jets
- 31:23Speaker 1: are gonna put up thirty on the Packers at lamb Listen,
- 31:25Speaker 1: the Packers can't get a stop right now, and the
- 31:27Speaker 1: Jets can score points. I look, I agree with both
- 31:30Speaker 1: of these ascensions of the New York teams, and I
- 31:32Speaker 1: think the Giants actually shouldn't be higher. I think the
- 31:34Speaker 1: Giants should be at eleven ahead of the Titans because
- 31:37Speaker 1: I can see that, look, they believe in themselves. They're
- 31:39Speaker 1: playing good football right now. This is not like, Hey,
- 31:41Speaker 1: we're winning just because of the opponent we're playing. They
- 31:44Speaker 1: believe they can win. I like both of these pushes
- 31:47Speaker 1: in the right I totally agree with you. I am
- 31:49Speaker 1: bullish on the Giants. They're up six to thirteen. So
- 31:52Speaker 1: assuming we have fourteen teams in the playoffs, which is
- 31:54Speaker 1: what we have, so they are above the line here
- 31:57Speaker 1: as a playoff team, you also have the Raiders at fourteen.
- 31:59Speaker 1: The biggest drops of the brand new Power Rankings NFL
