- 0:05Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Catch twenty two podcasts with Evan
- 0:09Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex Bars.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Bizarre and Lazar O.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Everybody nailed it.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Joined has always here is Evan Lazar and Alex Bars.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Teams have not really brought the fight to Buffalo very often.
- 0:27Speaker 2: And a big part of what I'm seeing on film
- 0:29Speaker 2: with the Bills is that they get all this soft
- 0:32Speaker 2: zone coverage because everybody's terrified of the big play and
- 0:36Speaker 2: him getting out of the pocket. So it's mush rush.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Four guys drop off into coverage, keep everything in front
- 0:44Speaker 2: of you. So they're just killing teams on catch and
- 0:46Speaker 2: run stuff, screens Khalil Shakira brick and six tackles last
- 0:50Speaker 2: week and going up the sideline and all of this
- 0:52Speaker 2: is because everybody backs off like everybody, you know, they're
- 0:55Speaker 2: giving them eight yards of cushion. And so all Alan
- 0:58Speaker 2: does is he just flips the screen out to Talio
- 1:00Speaker 2: Shakir with a couple of blockers and the corners are
- 1:03Speaker 2: way off the line of scrimmage and Shaquire's just running,
- 1:06Speaker 2: you know, with daylight all the time.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Two.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I'm usually patting myself on the back, but I kind
- 1:14Speaker 2: of nailed that, did I not? Kind of nailed it.
- 1:17Speaker 2: I mean, forty one percent man coverage. Stack the box,
- 1:22Speaker 2: don't let James cook beach. You don't be afraid of
- 1:26Speaker 2: your boy Josh Allen coming out there and hitting the
- 1:31Speaker 2: big plays down the field. I kind of nailed that one.
- 1:34Speaker 2: I'm going to pat myself on the back a little
- 1:36Speaker 2: bit about that. All right, Hello, everybody, Sorry we're late. Sorry, sorry,
- 1:40Speaker 2: we're a few minutes late. My goodness. Gracious, it's like
- 1:43Speaker 2: a monsoon outside, and you would think that when it
- 1:46Speaker 2: rains a little bit, Alex, it's like the apocalypse to
- 1:49Speaker 2: people on the road. They do not know how to drive. Like, look,
- 1:52Speaker 2: there's one thing you have to worry about when it rains,
- 1:54Speaker 2: and that's hydro planting, okay, But other than that, like
- 1:58Speaker 2: there's it's not snow. It's not right, Like it's not
- 2:01Speaker 2: that debilitating to your car or your ability to drive.
- 2:06Speaker 2: It was a long morning. I'm good.
- 2:08Speaker 1: I'm just proud of myself that it was not my fault.
- 2:10Speaker 2: It wasn't your fault. It was all me. And I
- 2:14Speaker 2: was so excited to come in here today and talk
- 2:17Speaker 2: about this win and we're still gonna get there, and
- 2:20Speaker 2: then just to ruin my morning like that was horrible,
- 2:23Speaker 2: but nothing can really take the win out of my
- 2:26Speaker 2: sales completely after that win, Alex, just a great atmosphere,
- 2:31Speaker 2: great game, great postgame celebration. I know there was some
- 2:35Speaker 2: things on Patriots dot com where you got to see
- 2:38Speaker 2: a little bit of that for the fans, you know,
- 2:41Speaker 2: the locker room celebration. Vrabel greeting all the players after
- 2:46Speaker 2: the game. I think he the best part of the
- 2:50Speaker 2: greeting after the game was with Stefan Diggs when they
- 2:53Speaker 2: both ran into the locker room and he said, let's
- 2:54Speaker 2: get the hell out of here, because I was like, please,
- 2:57Speaker 2: can we can we get this over with, Let's get
- 3:01Speaker 2: this party home. It was a good night in Buffalo
- 3:04Speaker 2: for the Patriots. I want to talk Drake May of
- 3:06Speaker 2: course off the top of the show. We'll do the good,
- 3:08Speaker 2: the bad, and the crap it gets you beat. There
- 3:10Speaker 2: are still a few things that were not so good
- 3:12Speaker 2: and could have gotten them beaten this game. But just
- 3:15Speaker 2: your overall impressions, Alex, of the Patriots taking this next
- 3:20Speaker 2: step and that was the team goal this week. That
- 3:24Speaker 2: was the message from Mike Rabel was it's one thing
- 3:28Speaker 2: to beat up on the Carolina Panthers and a wounded
- 3:31Speaker 2: Dolphins team a couple of weeks ago in Week two.
- 3:34Speaker 2: But can you take that next step as a football
- 3:36Speaker 2: team and win in a place where Buffalo had won
- 3:39Speaker 2: fourteen straight home games and you come in and you
- 3:42Speaker 2: spoil their Sunday night party. What were your just overall
- 3:45Speaker 2: takeaways from this moment?
- 3:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess big picture and look, somebody who's been
- 3:51Speaker 1: known to take a victory lap or two. So let
- 3:53Speaker 1: me be clear by this is not a victory lap
- 3:55Speaker 1: on the entire season. That's not what I'm doing by
- 3:57Speaker 1: making this point. I think it might come across that way,
- 4:00Speaker 1: but it's really not. There's still a lot of football
- 4:01Speaker 1: has to be played. But when you look at not
- 4:06Speaker 1: just the fact the Patriots won that game, but how
- 4:08Speaker 1: they won it, that was not It was not gimmicky.
- 4:12Speaker 1: It was not Mac Jones three passes in the wind.
- 4:15Speaker 1: It was not, despite what Bill's fans will tell you
- 4:17Speaker 1: on Twitter, because of the referees. The referees were terrible
- 4:19Speaker 1: for both sides. It was a painfully refereed game, but
- 4:22Speaker 1: it did not impact the outcome. I don't think it
- 4:24Speaker 1: impacted the outcome. They went out and they played their
- 4:28Speaker 1: game and they won. And when we got asked in
- 4:33Speaker 1: the summer, why are you so high on this team?
- 4:35Speaker 1: Why do you think they can make the playoffs? And
- 4:36Speaker 1: we were asked about specific players. Don't you think to
- 4:40Speaker 1: some extent that game is the vision of what they're
- 4:44Speaker 1: building like on an individual player basis right when we
- 4:48Speaker 1: talked about we took calls on this over the summer.
- 4:50Speaker 1: How are you Why are you confident Drake May is
- 4:52Speaker 1: the guy? Why do you feel like Drake May is
- 4:55Speaker 1: the guy? When you know his rookie year, he only
- 4:57Speaker 1: won one started, he had all these turnovers, blah blah blah,
- 4:59Speaker 1: And that's what I pictured. That's why because I saw
- 5:03Speaker 1: flashes of that, and that's what I pictured Stefon Diggs.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Remember we were doing Cooper Cup or Jakobe Myers over
- 5:12Speaker 1: Stefon Diggs. And I was somebody who was on Digs
- 5:15Speaker 1: from the beginning. That's why, because I believed he had
- 5:18Speaker 1: the potential to do what he's done in the last two weeks,
- 5:20Speaker 1: not just last night or that night, but Milton Williams,
- 5:23Speaker 1: who I was not as big as Milton Williams person,
- 5:25Speaker 1: but the way it was described by the people who
- 5:27Speaker 1: were into that and you know, more importantly people in
- 5:29Speaker 1: the building, but they're not coming out and explaining this
- 5:31Speaker 1: to us, but the experts who were like, this is
- 5:33Speaker 1: why he signed a guy like Milton Williams. That's what
- 5:35Speaker 1: he did. Will Campbell. You look at what he did
- 5:38Speaker 1: against Joey Bosa, his toughest matchup this far. Like, they
- 5:43Speaker 1: didn't have to reinvent themselves or get overly creative. And
- 5:47Speaker 1: that's not a knock on the coaching staff. They were
- 5:50Speaker 1: able to go out they won that game playing the
- 5:53Speaker 1: way they wanted to play. They did not let the
- 5:55Speaker 1: Bills dictate terms to what you said in the open
- 5:57Speaker 1: and I had made that point last week on the
- 5:59Speaker 1: show as well well. They did not try to reinvent themselves.
- 6:03Speaker 1: They did not get to in their own heads. They
- 6:04Speaker 1: did not try to go outside the box. They lined up,
- 6:08Speaker 1: played the game they want to play for sixty minutes
- 6:11Speaker 1: and they beat a good football team. That's more encouraging
- 6:14Speaker 1: than anything else. It'd be one thing if they had
- 6:16Speaker 1: won this game because the Bills were super banged up,
- 6:19Speaker 1: or they did a bunch of stuff that probably wasn't replicatable.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Do you doubt them being able to replicate any of
- 6:25Speaker 1: what they did, Evan, Now, can they do it? Do
- 6:28Speaker 1: they have twelve games left? Thirteen games left?
- 6:31Speaker 2: Right?
- 6:31Speaker 1: Can they do it thirteen more times? Twelve more times? Exactly?
- 6:35Speaker 1: I probably not. You know, it's still a young team.
- 6:38Speaker 1: There's gonna be some consistency issues. I'm sure they'll have
- 6:41Speaker 1: their stinkers again. Is there gonna be a three turnover
- 6:44Speaker 1: game between now and the end of the year. I'd
- 6:45Speaker 1: bet yes. But they haven't shown that kind of level
- 6:51Speaker 1: for a few years now, and they've now shown it
- 6:52Speaker 1: two weeks in a row. Like, let's not just throw
- 6:56Speaker 1: the Panthers game away because this is more impressive. Look
- 6:59Speaker 1: at those together.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yeah, they.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Played the game that they want to play and they
- 7:07Speaker 1: won against a good team. That's a very encouraging sign
- 7:11Speaker 1: for the long term. As fun as that night was
- 7:13Speaker 1: and that game was in itself and as it was,
- 7:16Speaker 1: the potential long term implications of that game should really
- 7:19Speaker 1: have you kind of hot and bothered.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Yeah. So there's two things that I want to payback
- 7:23Speaker 2: off of there that you said, what one is that?
- 7:27Speaker 2: And look, when you start winning games, all of a sudden,
- 7:30Speaker 2: guys on the roster start to look better. Right, the
- 7:32Speaker 2: players on the talent on the team starts to look better.
- 7:36Speaker 2: But for the last couple of years, we've heard repeatedly
- 7:41Speaker 2: about how bad this roster is and how this is
- 7:44Speaker 2: a bottom five, maybe bottom one roster in the NFL.
- 7:48Speaker 2: And I thought that most of that was fair and true.
- 7:51Speaker 2: But maybe the one thing that I tried to push
- 7:55Speaker 2: back on at times about the roster talent and the
- 7:58Speaker 2: conversations about that, was that doesn't mean that all of
- 8:02Speaker 2: the holdovers were bad players. Like just because the overall
- 8:06Speaker 2: talent of the roster was not good enough didn't mean
- 8:09Speaker 2: that they could not have Christian Goanzalez be a part
- 8:14Speaker 2: of the future of this team, or Christian Barmore be
- 8:16Speaker 2: part of the future of this team, or you know,
- 8:19Speaker 2: name any one of the players that's contributing now that
- 8:23Speaker 2: was here over the last couple of years. You know Hunter, Henry,
- 8:27Speaker 2: mike on Wenu, you know Kysham Boudi, Pop Douglas like
- 8:32Speaker 2: those guys. No, they're not all elite, blue chip talents,
- 8:37Speaker 2: but I thought that they could be part of winning
- 8:40Speaker 2: football if you supplemented them. But now the Patriots have
- 8:43Speaker 2: the guys you mentioned, Diggs, Milton Williams, Robert Spolaine, who
- 8:48Speaker 2: I thought was really good in this game. Yeah, you know,
- 8:52Speaker 2: Morgan Moses at right tackle, Will Campbell at left tackle.
- 8:56Speaker 2: The talent on the roster suddenly looks a lot better now,
- 9:00Speaker 2: Is it all the way there? No? And we're gonna
- 9:03Speaker 2: talk here in a little bit after we do the
- 9:06Speaker 2: goods about the running back situation and losing Antonio Gibson
- 9:12Speaker 2: and the depth of this roster.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Let memetles question, let me just be clear to my
- 9:15Speaker 1: point too, Like it's not that they can't build on it.
- 9:17Speaker 1: They have a ways to go, but you see the beginning,
- 9:20Speaker 1: I should say, it's the beginning of that vision.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Yeah. And as we segue into talking about Drake may
- 9:27Speaker 2: I think the most encouraging part is exactly what you
- 9:30Speaker 2: hit on against Carolina. And you know, at times I
- 9:34Speaker 2: think against Miami, Drake did this and kind of put
- 9:38Speaker 2: on the Superman cape too. But I would say in
- 9:40Speaker 2: there're two wins prior to this this season against Carolina
- 9:43Speaker 2: and Miami. I came into the show with a ton
- 9:46Speaker 2: of Josh McDaniels praise, Like Josh McDaniels is just scheming
- 9:50Speaker 2: things up. He's popping receivers open down the field, like
- 9:54Speaker 2: Drake May is throwing open guys and the numbers back
- 9:57Speaker 2: that up. He had one of the highest open window
- 9:59Speaker 2: rate throw rates in the NFL for the first four
- 10:01Speaker 2: weeks of the season. There was a lot and this
- 10:04Speaker 2: is not to knock Drake, this is to give praise
- 10:06Speaker 2: to McDaniels in the coordination of the offense. There was
- 10:09Speaker 2: a lot of scheme created layups within the offense and
- 10:13Speaker 2: some of that was the level of competition as well,
- 10:16Speaker 2: and they were able to do that in this game.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Buffalo is the type of defense that, no, they're not
- 10:22Speaker 2: playing great football on that side of the ball right
- 10:24Speaker 2: now in Buffalo, but it is a do what you do, systemic,
- 10:29Speaker 2: don't beat yourself kind of defense. They are not going
- 10:32Speaker 2: to bust coverages, they are not going to leave guys
- 10:34Speaker 2: wide open. They are not going to beat themselves by
- 10:39Speaker 2: mental brain errors, right, mental you know, brain farts. So
- 10:43Speaker 2: I'm trying to say, so you had to go out there,
- 10:47Speaker 2: and especially in the second half, they said We're going
- 10:51Speaker 2: to drop back pass eighteen times in the second half
- 10:56Speaker 2: and we're just going to be better than you, like
- 10:58Speaker 2: we're gonna out e secute you. Mostly Drake May and
- 11:02Speaker 2: Stefan Diggs, but the whole group, We're just gonna go
- 11:05Speaker 2: out there and we're gonna drop back pass and our
- 11:08Speaker 2: guys against your guys, and we are just going to
- 11:11Speaker 2: beat you. And I can't remember the last time that
- 11:14Speaker 2: the Patriots against a playoff caliber team. I'm not talking
- 11:17Speaker 2: about the Carolinas of the world. I'm talking about a
- 11:19Speaker 2: playoff caliber team, had the horses to just go out
- 11:23Speaker 2: there and beat another team, like at the level that
- 11:27Speaker 2: Buffalo is at by just playing football like this wasn't
- 11:32Speaker 2: right this all. Look at this, This was dressed up
- 11:34Speaker 2: so nicely by McDaniels, and look at this route pops
- 11:38Speaker 2: open and this guy's wide open in the zone or
- 11:40Speaker 2: whatever the case may be. This was Drake May at
- 11:45Speaker 2: his absolute best. And as we segue into Drake, I
- 11:48Speaker 2: just this isn't This is not a humble brag. I've
- 11:52Speaker 2: watched every single start Drake May has made in college
- 11:55Speaker 2: and in the NFL. Yeah, every single one. This is
- 11:58Speaker 2: the by far his Mona Lisa, like, this is the
- 12:01Speaker 2: best he has ever played at any level of football. Sure,
- 12:05Speaker 2: maybe he played like this in high school. I don't know.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I know so far as and hopefully that he tops.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Yeah, right, I don't have I don't have the high
- 12:11Speaker 2: school all twenty two. I don't know.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I mean it more like I would hope that you know,
- 12:15Speaker 1: I know what you're you know. The third overall pick.
- 12:18Speaker 1: His Mona Lisa didn't come in week five of the
- 12:20Speaker 1: regular season in his second year.
- 12:23Speaker 2: This is this is his very good this was his
- 12:26Speaker 2: Mona Lisa so far. Yeah, let's put you that way.
- 12:29Speaker 2: And I know the first half statistically wasn't as good,
- 12:34Speaker 2: but when you go back and you watch the film,
- 12:36Speaker 2: they just kind of like missed on some miscommunications in
- 12:39Speaker 2: the first half that they were able to clean up
- 12:41Speaker 2: in the second half that Drake May himself was seeing
- 12:46Speaker 2: it and throwing it. Well, they just weren't necessarily on
- 12:50Speaker 2: the same page. Like he throws the one to Diggs
- 12:52Speaker 2: that's purposely a little bit behind him to keep away
- 12:55Speaker 2: from the defender. Digs didn't really adjust to it quick enough.
- 12:58Speaker 2: He drops it. He threw another one over the middle
- 13:00Speaker 2: of the field to Hunter Henry where he saw the
- 13:03Speaker 2: split field safety, so the too high safety shell. He
- 13:06Speaker 2: thought Hunter Henry was just going to run it right
- 13:08Speaker 2: up the shoot and Hunter Henry cut across the field
- 13:10Speaker 2: and Drake threw it like he was gonna run straight
- 13:13Speaker 2: and Henry broke left and it was just a miscommunication.
- 13:16Speaker 2: But when you watch it on the tape, you can
- 13:18Speaker 2: see the picture that Drake may was looking at and
- 13:21Speaker 2: why he threw the ball there. Then you get into
- 13:23Speaker 2: the second half and they started to kind of clean
- 13:26Speaker 2: some of those things up. They actually ran the same
- 13:28Speaker 2: concept on into completion to Digs where Diggs did sit,
- 13:32Speaker 2: you know, in the coverage, and then they ran the
- 13:34Speaker 2: same play for a twenty two yard or twenty three
- 13:37Speaker 2: yarder up the seams to Hunter Henry. That was the
- 13:40Speaker 2: same exact play they ran in the first half, and
- 13:42Speaker 2: they hit it in the second half. You know, they
- 13:45Speaker 2: had a couple of instances, I thought in the first
- 13:47Speaker 2: half where he did look a little bit sped up
- 13:49Speaker 2: in the pocket and he was vacating the pocket a
- 13:52Speaker 2: little bit prematurely or making quick decisions and check downs.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Then he held the ball a little bit longer and
- 13:58Speaker 2: let those routes develop down the field. So he started
- 14:01Speaker 2: to really come into his own in the second half.
- 14:03Speaker 2: But I didn't think that the game was bad per se,
- 14:07Speaker 2: even in the first half, or the film was bad
- 14:09Speaker 2: per se, even in the first half. In the second half,
- 14:12Speaker 2: it's just big throw after big throw after big throw.
- 14:16Speaker 2: I mean, everybody's talking about the one where you know
- 14:19Speaker 2: he's throwing with every with the defenders hanging all over
- 14:22Speaker 2: him and on the game winning drive, and that was
- 14:24Speaker 2: an incredible pass. But just there was like four or five,
- 14:28Speaker 2: I would say, maybe even six throws in the second
- 14:31Speaker 2: half that were just franchise quarterback stuff. And I don't know,
- 14:38Speaker 2: you know, to your point, like, is that sustainable? That's
- 14:40Speaker 2: not how you want to play every week? Is that
- 14:43Speaker 2: you're asking your quarterback to make these ridiculous off platform,
- 14:47Speaker 2: on the move type of plays. You don't want that
- 14:50Speaker 2: to be your base offense. Like, that's not the goal here.
- 14:54Speaker 2: But I don't think you're going to have to play
- 14:56Speaker 2: that way against the New Orleans Saints, or against the
- 14:59Speaker 2: Tennessee Titan or against the Cleveland Browns, Like you don't
- 15:03Speaker 2: think you're going to have to have him put the
- 15:05Speaker 2: superman cap on quite as much as he had to
- 15:07Speaker 2: in the second half. But the fact that he was
- 15:09Speaker 2: capable of doing it and he went into Buffalo's house
- 15:13Speaker 2: and outdueled the MVP in his own building, I mean,
- 15:16Speaker 2: that is big time stuff from Drake May, and it's
- 15:19Speaker 2: hard to not just be over the moon excited about
- 15:22Speaker 2: his trajectory overall. And then obviously what we saw individually
- 15:27Speaker 2: in this game. Was there anything else that stand out
- 15:29Speaker 2: stood out from you from Drake in this game before
- 15:32Speaker 2: we get to some of the other stuff.
- 15:33Speaker 1: I mean, you hit on a lot of it there.
- 15:35Speaker 1: I just think some of the things he didn't do
- 15:37Speaker 1: as well, not putting the ball in harm's way the
- 15:40Speaker 1: big one for me. This is a sneaky, huge play
- 15:43Speaker 1: in this game, and there's you can see the direct
- 15:46Speaker 1: line of growth when it comes to Drake May to
- 15:50Speaker 1: play before the field goal. So was it like third
- 15:53Speaker 1: and six? I think yeah, And there obviously we saw
- 15:59Speaker 1: the kick after. So maybe this is unfair to Andy
- 16:01Speaker 1: Burgallo's to say it. They're in like fringe field goal range, right,
- 16:05Speaker 1: you know, right around the thirty five yard line. Bubbalos
- 16:08Speaker 1: out of timeouts, there's like about a minute left, and
- 16:14Speaker 1: they decide to throw it. Yeah, and remember they did
- 16:17Speaker 1: this same thing. That situation was a little different score wise,
- 16:20Speaker 1: but they did something very similar against Miami. Miami was
- 16:24Speaker 1: out of timeouts, Patriots are trying to kill the clock.
- 16:26Speaker 1: They'd a lead, but they throw the ball on it.
- 16:30Speaker 1: It was a second or third down when Miami didn't
- 16:32Speaker 1: have any timeouts and there was nothing there, and Drake
- 16:34Speaker 1: May threw it away and it was almost very costly.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Ultimately they recovered, but it was almost very costly. This
- 16:40Speaker 1: time they do the same thing. There's nothing there. What
- 16:42Speaker 1: is Drake May do? Steps in the pocket, make sure
- 16:45Speaker 1: he gets back to the line of scrimmage. He doesn't
- 16:46Speaker 1: just take the sack in the back that make sure
- 16:48Speaker 1: he gets back to the line of scrimmer as close he can.
- 16:50Speaker 1: It gets down and keeps the clock running. It go
- 16:53Speaker 1: if you if you look at it in the stat sheet,
- 16:56Speaker 1: I think it technically went down as a SAT zero.
- 16:59Speaker 1: It did. That's a hell of a sack man by
- 17:02Speaker 1: the quarterback. That's a great sack by the quarterback.
- 17:05Speaker 2: That it is it is. I put it down as
- 17:08Speaker 2: a plus play and it's the first time I've ever
- 17:10Speaker 2: recorded a stack as a plus play.
- 17:11Speaker 1: And we're gonna get called fanboys and bobos for it.
- 17:13Speaker 1: But like you go back to the play against Miami
- 17:20Speaker 1: and then three weeks later, same situation, he fixes it
- 17:24Speaker 1: in a bigger spot with more pressure. That's growth that's growth.
- 17:28Speaker 1: That's what we're looking for this year. Didn't put the
- 17:31Speaker 1: ball in harm's way, didn't cost the yardage, kept the
- 17:34Speaker 1: clock running. It's it's it's for all the throws he
- 17:37Speaker 1: made in this game. There's some spectacular throws. What a
- 17:41Speaker 1: heads up play by the kid. And that's the kind
- 17:44Speaker 1: of thing you want to win. You want to beat
- 17:47Speaker 1: not just win games, but beat the good teams, and
- 17:50Speaker 1: you want to win games. They're gonna put you in
- 17:51Speaker 1: the spot to be in the in the postseason and
- 17:53Speaker 1: compete for a title. You have to make those spectacular
- 17:56Speaker 1: plays too. But you have to make plays like that.
- 17:58Speaker 1: I always go back to, maybe this is unfair to
- 18:00Speaker 1: Drake me, but one of my favorite, not my favorite,
- 18:05Speaker 1: but like super underrated Tom Brady play in the Snowbowl
- 18:10Speaker 1: before the forty eight yard field goal. He does the
- 18:13Speaker 1: same thing where there's nothing open, he doesn't put the
- 18:16Speaker 1: ball horms when he gets back to the line scrimmage and
- 18:17Speaker 1: that when they needed it. There's a forty eight yard
- 18:19Speaker 1: kick that's good for.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Maybe fifty in the blizzard.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Yeah, but like smart quarterbacks have to be able to
- 18:24Speaker 1: make that play. It was super encouraging to see him
- 18:27Speaker 1: step up and make a play like that.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Yeah, So they rolled a pocket and they tried to
- 18:32Speaker 2: sneak Remandre into the flat for just like an easy
- 18:35Speaker 2: you know, kind of throw into the flat on third
- 18:37Speaker 2: and short. He ideally he gets up the field, he
- 18:41Speaker 2: stays in bounds too, and you get an extra free
- 18:44Speaker 2: like eight yards out of it. Right, that was the
- 18:46Speaker 2: goal of the play. And they tried to pick off
- 18:49Speaker 2: a man defender in the box with I think it
- 18:53Speaker 2: was MATC Collins who was on that side of the field,
- 18:55Speaker 2: and they're just kind of running like a pick or
- 18:57Speaker 2: a rub. They're at the line of scrimmage, and the
- 18:59Speaker 2: Buffalo credit they zoned it off, right, they didn't follow
- 19:03Speaker 2: it and man, they the outside corner stayed outside and
- 19:06Speaker 2: didn't take the cheese and they zoned it off and
- 19:09Speaker 2: so it was covered like there was no place to
- 19:10Speaker 2: go with the ball. And uh, and Drake May breaks
- 19:13Speaker 2: a tackle in like eight yards in the backfield to
- 19:16Speaker 2: get out of the sack and then gets it back
- 19:18Speaker 2: to the line of scrimmage. It was I've ver Able
- 19:20Speaker 2: talked about it on Monday. That was the play he
- 19:22Speaker 2: kind of brought up in the press conference. Uh, to
- 19:25Speaker 2: your point about growth and you know, developing and all
- 19:28Speaker 2: that kind of stuff. We know he's got the arm talent,
- 19:30Speaker 2: we know he's got the athleticism, but the mental side
- 19:33Speaker 2: of the game is the next step for him, is
- 19:35Speaker 2: the final hurdle, if you will, And he seemed to
- 19:38Speaker 2: take it in a lot of different ways. And I
- 19:41Speaker 2: just have to say, you know, just lastly, just to
- 19:43Speaker 2: gush a little bit more here, the whole shot the
- 19:46Speaker 2: Kish on Booty to put them in field goal range
- 19:48Speaker 2: is just a nuts throw. Like I get everybody's like
- 19:51Speaker 2: hold like again, like I get the everybody's drape all
- 19:54Speaker 2: over him, and he throws it to Digs like to
- 19:56Speaker 2: start that drive. That's a hell of a play. But
- 19:59Speaker 2: like I don't want to see him making that type
- 20:01Speaker 2: of play right like that, that's not ideal, that's not
- 20:04Speaker 2: I don't want to see that ever again. But the
- 20:07Speaker 2: throw to booty is like conventional offense, Like that's the
- 20:11Speaker 2: way in structure, yeah, yeah, thank you in structure. And
- 20:15Speaker 2: that is a just ridiculous throw in that spot, not
- 20:19Speaker 2: only to just throw it perfectly with your exact amount
- 20:23Speaker 2: of you know, touch, but also with pace to get
- 20:27Speaker 2: the ball there before the safety begetted over the flat corner,
- 20:31Speaker 2: but also just to standing there in the pocket and
- 20:33Speaker 2: get drilled why he's doing it too. We all were
- 20:37Speaker 2: kind of waiting and hoping to see that clutch, that
- 20:41Speaker 2: game winning drive from Drake May And now is that
- 20:44Speaker 2: that throw took some stones to fit that ball in there? Yeah?
- 20:48Speaker 1: Throw?
- 20:48Speaker 2: All right, Let's move on to some of the other
- 20:50Speaker 2: good stuff in this game. Let's stick on offense. I
- 20:53Speaker 2: do want to talk a lot about the defense too,
- 20:55Speaker 2: because I thought they were They were really good in
- 20:58Speaker 2: this game as well. But the other sort of big
- 21:01Speaker 2: picture takeaway from this game, Alex is obviously the performance
- 21:04Speaker 2: of Stefan Diggs. And just I wrote down like, do
- 21:08Speaker 2: the Patriots have a number one wide receiver? Like we've
- 21:10Speaker 2: been talking about this for five years, like, you know,
- 21:13Speaker 2: trying to find that number one wide receiver really since
- 21:16Speaker 2: like Gronk and Edelman started to age out of football,
- 21:20Speaker 2: that that's been the conversation over and over again. And
- 21:24Speaker 2: I understand it was against his former team, and Stefan
- 21:26Speaker 2: Diggs was all sorts of jazzed up to play in
- 21:29Speaker 2: this game. But now this is two games in a
- 21:32Speaker 2: row that he's gone for over one hundred yards going
- 21:34Speaker 2: back to the Carolina game. So it's not like every
- 21:36Speaker 2: other game has been like, right, for fifteen yards and
- 21:41Speaker 2: all of a sudden he has one hundred and forty
- 21:43Speaker 2: five against his former team. Just not to like throw
- 21:47Speaker 2: you know, stones, but remember in it was a twenty
- 21:51Speaker 2: three right, Yeah, twenty three Juju had a huge game
- 21:54Speaker 2: in Pittsburgh and was like terrible the rest of the year.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Like that's one of those games where it's like, yeah,
- 22:00Speaker 2: year you got up to play.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Here four, Well that game was that was like week twelve.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Yeah, this was back to back really good games from Giggs.
- 22:09Speaker 2: This game, though, in particular, was again like I said,
- 22:12Speaker 2: it was Drake May's Mondleiser. This was Stefanazaggs had a
- 22:15Speaker 2: lot of great games in his career. Yeah, this was
- 22:17Speaker 2: like watching him run routes in this game was poetry,
- 22:19Speaker 2: like he was just dancing out there.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Well, and I think the cool thing is a lot
- 22:24Speaker 1: of great receiver You look at the great receivers who
- 22:27Speaker 1: play into their thirties, and there's not a lot of them.
- 22:29Speaker 1: It's really hard to play receiver in your thirties. Just
- 22:31Speaker 1: the I can't say I've tried to do it, you know,
- 22:34Speaker 1: outside of backyard football. But like you look at the
- 22:36Speaker 1: history of wide receivers who are continually successful past the
- 22:39Speaker 1: edge of thirty, it's not a long list, especially recently,
- 22:42Speaker 1: but the guys who've done it, there's an element. And
- 22:45Speaker 1: I don't I don't want to completely say Diggs reinvented himself,
- 22:49Speaker 1: because I do think that this was a part of
- 22:51Speaker 1: his game throughout his career, but like he's not the
- 22:54Speaker 1: deep threat anymore, and his ability to get open into
- 22:57Speaker 1: the intermediate and create after the catch that isn't his
- 23:00Speaker 1: primary tool, and it kind of feels like it is
- 23:02Speaker 1: now and he's thriving on it. So that's really cool
- 23:05Speaker 1: to see that you mentioned, you know, this was one
- 23:08Speaker 1: of the best games of his career. This didn't look
- 23:11Speaker 1: like the big games he had in Buffalo. It's like
- 23:13Speaker 1: schematically it looks different, but he's winning another way, which
- 23:17Speaker 1: is awesome to see. And yeah, I thought he was
- 23:19Speaker 1: really good in this game. I do. I think it's
- 23:21Speaker 1: an outlier. I mean, I don't think he's gonna have
- 23:23Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty yards every week, right, but I
- 23:26Speaker 1: think he's at like he's a guy that's gonna keep
- 23:29Speaker 1: teams honest and he's a guy that's gonna dictate coverage.
- 23:31Speaker 1: You asked, do they have a number one wide receiver
- 23:33Speaker 1: in the short term? Yes, Now he's thirty one years old,
- 23:36Speaker 1: and I just kind of talked about how tough that is,
- 23:39Speaker 1: and I still think it's something we talk about as
- 23:41Speaker 1: a long term need when we get to the offseason.
- 23:44Speaker 1: But I mean, Tuesday morning, who after Drake May? Who
- 23:47Speaker 1: do you think the first player the Saints brought up
- 23:49Speaker 1: was in the meeting And.
- 23:51Speaker 2: It wasn't Christian Barmore and Milton Williams. He was tremendous.
- 23:58Speaker 2: I mean, he had sixty two yards after the catch. Yeah,
- 24:02Speaker 2: out of a you know, his one hundred and forty five.
- 24:04Speaker 2: I think it was forty six something like that. I
- 24:06Speaker 2: don't know if he's gonna be that much of a
- 24:08Speaker 2: yack monster every single week. But what was so impressive?
- 24:12Speaker 1: But can he turn like the one with where May
- 24:15Speaker 1: flips it forwards where he is the defender hanging on him,
- 24:17Speaker 1: which is obviously an impressive throw with people losing track
- 24:19Speaker 1: of Diggs breaks the tackle and it turns a two
- 24:22Speaker 1: yard gain into a ten yard gain. The one on
- 24:24Speaker 1: the first play the game, he turns an eight yard
- 24:26Speaker 1: game into like thirteen fourteen yard gain. Can he do that?
- 24:29Speaker 1: It doesn't all have to be that one in the
- 24:31Speaker 1: fourth quarter where he breaks like three tackles and goes
- 24:34Speaker 1: for whatever it was forty yards something like that. Yeah,
- 24:36Speaker 1: it doesn't have to be that. But the four to
- 24:38Speaker 1: five yards per catch you're finding that wouldn't otherwise be there.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Can he continue to do that? Which I think he can.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Yeah, one hundred percent. And the last thing I just
- 24:47Speaker 2: wanted to mention about Diggs. I talked about this last week.
- 24:50Speaker 2: The Panthers did not have j C. Horn travel with
- 24:53Speaker 2: him in the Week four, and he won the matchup.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Every time Mike in their second corner was lined up
- 25:01Speaker 2: across from Stefan Digs, he torched him. Like all the
- 25:05Speaker 2: big plays that he had in that game were against
- 25:07Speaker 2: Mike Jackson. Then you fast forward to this week and
- 25:11Speaker 2: Tredavius White is on him a couple of times and
- 25:15Speaker 2: Christian Benford did not travel with Stefan Diggs, and Stefan
- 25:19Speaker 2: Diggs hit a thirty two yarder. I believe it was
- 25:22Speaker 2: White who was the primary coverage defender. I know that's
- 25:24Speaker 2: off script, like that was a broken play, but the
- 25:27Speaker 2: thirty yarder that he hit in the fourth quarter that
- 25:30Speaker 2: you mentioned is from inside the slot where he gets
- 25:33Speaker 2: matched up on his safety and he burns the safety
- 25:36Speaker 2: after the catch with the breaking you know, Cole Bishop's
- 25:39Speaker 2: tackle and going down the field. So what I'm trying
- 25:43Speaker 2: to get at is is like if you don't come
- 25:45Speaker 2: into these games now as the opponent and say we
- 25:48Speaker 2: need to put our number one corner on Stefan Diggs,
- 25:51Speaker 2: He's going to beat everybody else he put across from. Like,
- 25:54Speaker 2: so if you're the Saints, if you're the Browns, like
- 25:57Speaker 2: with Denzel Ward, like you have to start thinking we
- 26:01Speaker 2: have to put our number one corner on Diggs. And
- 26:04Speaker 2: when we talk about like coverage, dictating receivers and game
- 26:08Speaker 2: plan players, like that's the whole point. And now all
- 26:11Speaker 2: of a sudden, maybe there's less attention on Hunter Henry,
- 26:14Speaker 2: or there's less attention on the other receivers like Hollins
- 26:17Speaker 2: or Booty or Pop Douglas or Kyle Williams. Maybe there's
- 26:20Speaker 2: less attention on the run game, which we'll get to
- 26:23Speaker 2: in the bads. Right, Like, if you have to do
- 26:25Speaker 2: all these things, if you have to put safety help,
- 26:27Speaker 2: if you have to put your number one corner. That's
- 26:30Speaker 2: the hierarchy of the offense that we've been talking about
- 26:33Speaker 2: the last couple of years that they haven't had because
- 26:35Speaker 2: they haven't had a Stefan Diggs. So even if the
- 26:39Speaker 2: production for Digs isn't the same every single week, if
- 26:43Speaker 2: teams have to now come in and respect that the
- 26:46Speaker 2: Diggs is still in his prime and still very capable
- 26:50Speaker 2: of having one hundred and fifty yards on ten catches,
- 26:53Speaker 2: then it just kind of changes how your defenses defend
- 26:57Speaker 2: you offensively, which can be just as important as him
- 26:59Speaker 2: catching ten passes in a game. So it's all of it,
- 27:02Speaker 2: you know, put together that has really made this passing
- 27:06Speaker 2: game one of the most efficient passing games in the
- 27:09Speaker 2: league through five weeks. And I kept hearing people saying, well,
- 27:13Speaker 2: look at the level of competition in the opening month,
- 27:15Speaker 2: like let's pump the brakes. Well, now when you do
- 27:17Speaker 2: it against Buffalo, who had a top ten pass defense
- 27:20Speaker 2: in the NFL by Dvoa coming into this game, Like
- 27:23Speaker 2: how many more weeks do we have to wait before
- 27:25Speaker 2: it's enough of a sample size to say that the
- 27:28Speaker 2: Patriots can throw the ball? Like, because we're five weeks
- 27:31Speaker 2: into the season now where they have played a good
- 27:33Speaker 2: pass defense, and they still were able to move the
- 27:36Speaker 2: ball through the air in the second half pretty much
- 27:38Speaker 2: at will. I mean he had one incompletion in the
- 27:40Speaker 2: entire second half of the game, thirteen for fourteen, one
- 27:43Speaker 2: hundred and eighty four yards. So we goshed a lot
- 27:46Speaker 2: about the offense. Let's gush a little bit about the
- 27:48Speaker 2: little more about the offense. Of course on this show.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Of course you can.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Well you were posting about it on Twitter. Yeah, and
- 27:55Speaker 1: talk about the line. We'll talk about it. Oh so
- 27:57Speaker 1: you weren't as high on the line as other people.
- 28:00Speaker 2: No, I we can talk about it now.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Were you going to talk about it in the bads? No?
- 28:06Speaker 2: No, I mean obviously the run game needs work.
- 28:08Speaker 1: So I all right, let me rephrase that. Can we
- 28:10Speaker 1: talk about pass protection?
- 28:11Speaker 2: Pass protection was good? Now, I thought that the pass
- 28:14Speaker 2: protection rate, you know, the pressure rate, excuse me, was
- 28:17Speaker 2: a little.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Bit deceiving in this game. Yeah, Drake made left. He
- 28:21Speaker 1: ran himself in pressure a couple of times, a.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Couple of times, especially in the first half, but in general,
- 28:26Speaker 2: he as soon as he saw Blitz he was out
- 28:30Speaker 2: of dodge. And this kind of goes back to not
- 28:34Speaker 2: to like totally change the subject and make it back
- 28:37Speaker 2: a Drake thing again. This is something that that I
- 28:41Speaker 2: think we all need to come to terms with with
- 28:44Speaker 2: the style of quarterbacks in today's NFL. The old like
- 28:51Speaker 2: sort of adage about beating the blitz is you replace
- 28:54Speaker 2: the ball the blitz with the ball right. If you
- 28:57Speaker 2: get a linebacker blitz, then you throw it over the middle,
- 29:00Speaker 2: right where the guy blitz from. If you get a
- 29:02Speaker 2: corner blitz, you throw it right at the open space
- 29:04Speaker 2: on the outside. Like that's the whole mantra or the
- 29:08Speaker 2: coaching point that from twenty five years ago, when you
- 29:11Speaker 2: know Brady started and Drew Brees started, and Peyton started,
- 29:14Speaker 2: and all those guys started playing football. These guys don't
- 29:18Speaker 2: play that way. They are athletes, they're mobile, they have
- 29:23Speaker 2: exceptional arm talent outside the pocket. So when Drake may
- 29:27Speaker 2: sees a free runner coming or he sees a blitzer
- 29:30Speaker 2: coming and he feels like his running back is losing
- 29:34Speaker 2: in pass protection, these guys are not standing in there
- 29:38Speaker 2: and staring down the barrel and making five yard passes
- 29:41Speaker 2: behind the blitz anymore. Go watch Mahomes, Go watch Allen,
- 29:45Speaker 2: Go watch Lamar Jackson. Like those guys. These guys are
- 29:48Speaker 2: getting out of dodge, right, that's just the way that
- 29:50Speaker 2: they play.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Let me ask something, is Matthew Stafford the last true
- 29:55Speaker 1: like statue esque pocket quarterback, last great one? Anyways?
- 30:00Speaker 2: It may probably a last great one. Yeah, I mean
- 30:01Speaker 2: Stafford early on in his career could move a little bit.
- 30:04Speaker 1: But yeah no, but like there's and there's still some
- 30:06Speaker 1: guys that do it. But it's just see the last
- 30:09Speaker 1: guy that's going to be dominant playing that way.
- 30:11Speaker 2: Maybe it's just not that league anymore. Like they don't
- 30:14Speaker 2: play that way. And you can say that the old
- 30:16Speaker 2: way is better than the new way, and you might
- 30:18Speaker 2: be right, like you might you might have a point, but.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Well, the roles make it more advantageous to play the
- 30:24Speaker 1: other way.
- 30:25Speaker 2: These guys are going to when they sy blitz especially
- 30:28Speaker 2: you know there was one in particular where they ran
- 30:31Speaker 2: a coffeehouse stunt right where the guy kind of fakes
- 30:33Speaker 2: like he's going to drop into coverage, sells it and
- 30:36Speaker 2: then blitzes and they got him. The Patriots is like
- 30:39Speaker 2: the parting of the Red Seas, Like the whole middle
- 30:41Speaker 2: of the line opened up. I think Errett Bradbury was
- 30:43Speaker 2: supposed to have him, and he got fooled by it.
- 30:46Speaker 2: And there's a free runner, you know, coming right at
- 30:49Speaker 2: Drake May and he probably could have stood in there
- 30:52Speaker 2: and hit the slant the pop Douglas behind it, but
- 30:55Speaker 2: instead he rolled out to his right and bought himself
- 30:57Speaker 2: time and hit digs along the sideline for like a
- 31:00Speaker 2: ten yard game. The old quarterback coaches would say, stand
- 31:06Speaker 2: in the pocket, stare down the barrel, and hit the
- 31:09Speaker 2: slant right like that's like what that's what they would
- 31:12Speaker 2: want you to do. But these guys don't play that way.
- 31:15Speaker 2: It's just not their playing style. So could you say again, like,
- 31:20Speaker 2: I'm not saying it's right or wrong to think that
- 31:22Speaker 2: they should be standing in the pocket and making those throws.
- 31:25Speaker 2: I just don't think we should hold it against Brake
- 31:27Speaker 2: made that he doesn't because it's just not really innately.
- 31:30Speaker 2: It's just not his instincts, right, It's just not how
- 31:32Speaker 2: he's wired, and it's not how he plays. I thought
- 31:35Speaker 2: the line and pass protection was mostly good. I did
- 31:38Speaker 2: think Buffalo did generate some pressure with their blitzes in
- 31:42Speaker 2: the second half of this game, but I thought it
- 31:45Speaker 2: was mostly good. And Will Campbell at this point is
- 31:51Speaker 2: at least, if we're being conservative, an average pass blocking
- 31:55Speaker 2: left tackle. Yeah, and he's trending toward above average pass
- 31:59Speaker 2: blocking tackle. And given the narratives, given the conversations, the limitations, YadA, YadA, YadA.
- 32:07Speaker 2: If you told me that he was going to be
- 32:08Speaker 2: like the twentieth best tackle and pass protection in the
- 32:11Speaker 2: league his rookie year, and that's both sides, I would
- 32:14Speaker 2: have definitely taken that. That's both sides, right, not just
- 32:16Speaker 2: like yeah, yeah, yeah, like twentieth best tackle out of
- 32:19Speaker 2: like seventy qualified tackles. Then that's right about now where
- 32:23Speaker 2: he is in pass blocking efficiency. I don't know how
- 32:27Speaker 2: you could be disappointed.
- 32:28Speaker 1: By that starting caliber left tackle. Those are not easy
- 32:30Speaker 1: to find.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Yeah, so they definitely seem like they found their guy
- 32:34Speaker 2: in that respect, the run blocking and left tackle specifically, No,
- 32:39Speaker 2: because I don't think PFF makes it too easy to
- 32:41Speaker 2: fill filter out the right and left tackles. So I
- 32:45Speaker 2: could look at it and try to eyeball it in
- 32:47Speaker 2: a second, But that's that's right where he's at right now.
- 32:51Speaker 2: He's like twenty second or something like that out of
- 32:54Speaker 2: like seventy two qualified tackles, seventy qualified tackles. And pass
- 32:58Speaker 2: blocking efficiency, so he hasn't given up a Saxon's Week one,
- 33:02Speaker 2: he is.
- 33:03Speaker 1: That's the Sewell's a right tackle. Yeah, Bull's place on
- 33:07Speaker 1: the left side, right, Yeah, all right, Bulls, Colton Miller,
- 33:11Speaker 1: Joel to right tackle, Jawan Taylor.
- 33:12Speaker 2: Well, Joe was playing left, but yeah.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Why was he?
- 33:16Speaker 3: Oh?
- 33:16Speaker 1: Because later I heard that's right Now he's Jawan Taylor,
- 33:19Speaker 1: Darnell right lane, Johnson is right, Deon Dawkins Tunsel shout out,
- 33:23Speaker 1: Germaine Luminor ninth overall my all tackles playing right, playing right, ye,
- 33:29Speaker 1: ninth over It's impressive. Titus Howard, Patrick, Paul Roger Rosengarten,
- 33:32Speaker 1: Paris Johnson, Anton Harrison, Morgan, Moses, Charles Cross, Brainsmith, Mike
- 33:37Speaker 1: and Glinchy, Colt mckivitz, Will Campbell. I guess I should
- 33:39Speaker 1: have been counting how many right tackles were in there.
- 33:41Speaker 2: I would say we're probably at like the tenth or
- 33:43Speaker 2: eleventh best left tackle.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Yeah, fringe top ten left tackles rookie. Yeah, it's I mean,
- 33:49Speaker 1: a long way to go, Like I don't want to
- 33:50Speaker 1: take the full victory lap right now because watch it'll
- 33:52Speaker 1: suck this week. But I know it looks very promising,
- 33:55Speaker 1: is the point. It's, uh, he doesn't look out of place.
- 33:57Speaker 1: There were people who thought he's gonna look out of
- 33:59Speaker 1: place right away, and.
- 33:59Speaker 2: He doesn't look out of place. And even for the
- 34:03Speaker 2: most part, like his losses, he's not getting blown by
- 34:07Speaker 2: and his losses, and he's giving Drake May at least
- 34:09Speaker 2: chances to step up or move the in the pocket.
- 34:12Speaker 2: And then you know the last thing on Campbell, I
- 34:15Speaker 2: just there are some flashes in the run game where
- 34:21Speaker 2: he's just doing things that are just not really normal.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Once or twice a week that he's just leveling a
- 34:28Speaker 1: guy ten yards downfield.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean the five yard run by Remandre that
- 34:33Speaker 2: put them like into comfortable field goal range, because nowadays
- 34:36Speaker 2: a fifty two yarder is comfortable field goal range. And
- 34:38Speaker 2: the way he hit that, Jared Wilson whiffs on the
- 34:43Speaker 2: double team, completely falls on his face on the double team,
- 34:47Speaker 2: and Will Campbell just blocks the guy himself, but he
- 34:49Speaker 2: just takes the guy. He runs his feet and he
- 34:52Speaker 2: just moves the defensive tackle out of the gap and
- 34:55Speaker 2: opens the gap and opens the door for Demandra Stevenson
- 34:58Speaker 2: to get through the line of scrimmage. That is a
- 35:00Speaker 2: play that when you watch it, you know when Wilson
- 35:03Speaker 2: gets over extended, and we'll talk about that in a
- 35:05Speaker 2: little bit, when he gets over extended and he gets
- 35:08Speaker 2: kind of beat on the double team, like that should
- 35:11Speaker 2: be a stuff that should be stopped in the line
- 35:13Speaker 2: of scrimmage. But Campbell just takes the guy and just
- 35:15Speaker 2: walks him out. And it's just like you look at
- 35:18Speaker 2: these the playing strength and the power that he can
- 35:20Speaker 2: generate is really impressive. Let's talk about the defense. We
- 35:24Speaker 2: can talk a little bit more about the offensive line
- 35:26Speaker 2: here in a bit. Defensively, I think the number one
- 35:29Speaker 2: thing that stood out to me from this game on
- 35:31Speaker 2: the positive side, and then I'll gloat a little bit
- 35:33Speaker 2: about the man coverage was the run defense. The run
- 35:36Speaker 2: defense was terrific in this game. Buffalo came into this
- 35:39Speaker 2: game number one in the league in rush EPA. I
- 35:42Speaker 2: think they were number two in success right like they
- 35:44Speaker 2: were the best run offense in the NFL through the
- 35:47Speaker 2: first four weeks of the season. The Patriots hel James
- 35:50Speaker 2: Cook to three point three yards per carry. His highest
- 35:54Speaker 2: or longest run was nine yards. In this game, they
- 35:58Speaker 2: shut down Buffalo's run game completely and they really took
- 36:02Speaker 2: that out of their arsenal, and that was extremely impressive
- 36:06Speaker 2: to see. A lot of guys were a part of that,
- 36:10Speaker 2: even like I know that they got the two you know,
- 36:12Speaker 2: boneheaded penalties at the end of the game, but even
- 36:15Speaker 2: like Corey Dirtin and Joshua Farmer were giving them good
- 36:18Speaker 2: snaps on first and second down in the run defense,
- 36:21Speaker 2: they were very stout. They have been playing the run
- 36:25Speaker 2: differently than the way Belichick played the run in those defenses,
- 36:29Speaker 2: which we can talk about, which I think is kind
- 36:31Speaker 2: of unique and kind of cool for me because when
- 36:34Speaker 2: I watch the tape, it's very different, and like learning
- 36:37Speaker 2: the differences between the two styles of run fits and
- 36:40Speaker 2: things like that have been interesting. But they we came
- 36:43Speaker 2: into this game saying that they had to stop James Cook,
- 36:46Speaker 2: that that was just as big of a deal as
- 36:49Speaker 2: stopping josh Allen, and they came in and they completely
- 36:51Speaker 2: took James Cook out of the game.
- 36:53Speaker 1: Yeah, the front's been just dominant, just just unbelievably dominant.
- 36:58Speaker 1: And you're I talked about earlier, Milton Williams Christian Barmore,
- 37:03Speaker 1: the way those two guys are playing off of each other,
- 37:05Speaker 1: it is a significant development. Forcing teams to choose Kiris
- 37:08Speaker 1: Tonga has been.
- 37:10Speaker 2: I should have mentioned him.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Yeah, he's been excellent. And then yeah, you're starting to
- 37:13Speaker 1: see some of these depth guys step up and make
- 37:15Speaker 1: some plays as well. So against the run and the past,
- 37:18Speaker 1: they they've been they've been excellent.
- 37:21Speaker 2: Yeah. So the one, the schematic thing I wanted to
- 37:24Speaker 2: talk about. I'm going to try to explain this and
- 37:25Speaker 2: hopefully everybody can follow. So in the old system, the
- 37:29Speaker 2: Patriots were very disciplined in their run defense, and they
- 37:32Speaker 2: would set the edge of the defense, so they would
- 37:35Speaker 2: play they would have their edge defenders play the outside
- 37:38Speaker 2: shoulder of the tackles, and they would want to set
- 37:41Speaker 2: the edge of the defense with their edge defenders and.
- 37:43Speaker 1: Force the Collsworth kept talking about them crashing in.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and force the ball back inside. So the old
- 37:49Speaker 2: defense wanted to force the ball inside. They wanted to
- 37:52Speaker 2: force it to you know, back in the day, it
- 37:55Speaker 2: was Vince Wilfork and it was you know, Dante high Tower.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Yeah sure, Alan Branch said it recently got.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Just yeah sure, Alan player.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Yeah, for like one year are talking about jacket.
- 38:09Speaker 1: You're asking who's in that role. Alan Branch was in
- 38:11Speaker 1: that role and he played it.
- 38:12Speaker 2: Well, so disrespect I'm not disrespecting Alan Branch. I'm not
- 38:16Speaker 2: trying to get bogged down on Alan h Then. You know,
- 38:20Speaker 2: even recently, like they've had really like good run defenses,
- 38:23Speaker 2: even at the end of the Belichick tenure, when everything
- 38:25Speaker 2: else was falling apart, they were still able to stop
- 38:27Speaker 2: the run. But they always had these big backers, you know,
- 38:30Speaker 2: Juwan Bentley types in the middle of the defense, and
- 38:33Speaker 2: that was what they wanted to funnel the ball to.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Now they actually want the ball to bounce. They want
- 38:40Speaker 2: to force the guys to the outside. They're doing what's
- 38:42Speaker 2: called spilling, which is when they take the inside gaps.
- 38:46Speaker 2: The edges are now playing the inside shoulder of the
- 38:49Speaker 2: tackles and they're playing inside to the b gap and
- 38:52Speaker 2: they're trying to get the middle clogged up and then
- 38:56Speaker 2: forcing the ball outside and then they're just gonna chase
- 38:58Speaker 2: it down when it gets outside. So there are going
- 39:01Speaker 2: to be times. There was a time in this game,
- 39:03Speaker 2: two instances in this game where it looks like they're
- 39:08Speaker 2: giving up the edge, Like it looks like Harold Landry
- 39:13Speaker 2: is going inside trying to shoot the gap and he's
- 39:16Speaker 2: giving up the edge but they have what's called a
- 39:18Speaker 2: force defender, whose responsibility it is is to set the
- 39:22Speaker 2: edge of the defense. Usually that's like a defensive back
- 39:25Speaker 2: or the nickel corner. Sometimes if they're wrapping, it's a linebacker.
- 39:29Speaker 2: But the point is is that they want the interior
- 39:33Speaker 2: guys to shoot the gaps. They want the guys on
- 39:35Speaker 2: the line of scrimmage to slant inside, shoot the gaps inside.
- 39:39Speaker 2: And what you're seeing is that right now, the Patriots
- 39:42Speaker 2: are leading the NFL and negative play rate against the run.
- 39:46Speaker 2: They have the highest percentage of plays for negative yards
- 39:49Speaker 2: in the run game in the NFL. Because they are
- 39:51Speaker 2: shooting gaps and because they are making plays on the
- 39:55Speaker 2: other side of the line of scrimmage. It's really it's
- 39:57Speaker 2: kind of like it breaks your ba a little bit
- 40:01Speaker 2: because you're watching and there are times where Landry is
- 40:05Speaker 2: just vacating the edge and you're like, where's he going? Right,
- 40:09Speaker 2: And James Cook bounced a few times in this game successfully,
- 40:13Speaker 2: but even when he did, it was for like six yards, right,
- 40:18Speaker 2: Like they were able to swarm and get to the
- 40:20Speaker 2: football and establish that force defender, at least in theory. Now.
- 40:25Speaker 2: The one thing I would say that is a little bit.
- 40:29Speaker 2: You know why Belichick probably didn't like playing this style
- 40:32Speaker 2: of defense is that it puts your corners, especially your
- 40:35Speaker 2: nickel corner, your slot corner, and the safeties at the
- 40:39Speaker 2: point of attack, which is a really hard assignment for
- 40:43Speaker 2: a lot of those guys. So that's the downside of
- 40:46Speaker 2: this is that, you know, a couple of times it
- 40:49Speaker 2: was like Craig Woodson, a couple other times it's Marcus Jones.
- 40:52Speaker 2: Like now, putting those guys at the point of attack
- 40:54Speaker 2: can be difficult, but that's really the mechanics of their
- 40:58Speaker 2: run defense has completely changed, where now everything is about
- 41:02Speaker 2: taking the inside gaps, getting up the field, and not
- 41:05Speaker 2: necessarily as a dead set on setting the edge of
- 41:09Speaker 2: the defense, which I think is interesting and has been
- 41:13Speaker 2: really productive and effective for them over the last couple
- 41:16Speaker 2: of year weeks. But it's funny like watching it and
- 41:19Speaker 2: being like, well, they blew the edge, right, but it's
- 41:22Speaker 2: not actually blowing the edge in principle. The other thing
- 41:26Speaker 2: that I wanted to bring up with the defense was
- 41:31Speaker 2: the man coverage. You know, forty one per man coverage down.
- 41:34Speaker 2: The numbers are not other worldly. It's not like they
- 41:37Speaker 2: held Josh Allen down necessarily in man coverage, he was
- 41:40Speaker 2: still pretty effective. I think he was like ten for
- 41:43Speaker 2: fourteen for one hundred and sixty hundred and seventy yards
- 41:45Speaker 2: against man coverage. So it's still really good production for
- 41:49Speaker 2: the Bills offense in man coverage. But I'm gonna go
- 41:52Speaker 2: on your side of the street for a second with
- 41:53Speaker 2: this a little bit olex Like this is kind of
- 41:55Speaker 2: a mindset thing to me, like where it's like, we
- 41:58Speaker 2: have better corners than you receivers, right, Keon Coleman, Khalil Shakir,
- 42:04Speaker 2: nice players, But what we're going to come out and
- 42:07Speaker 2: we're going to play man to man coverage and we're
- 42:09Speaker 2: going to challenge these guys to beat us in man
- 42:11Speaker 2: to man. Now, we'll get to the bads with Dalton
- 42:14Speaker 2: Kinkaid here in a second. But for the most part,
- 42:17Speaker 2: you know, Marcus Jones gave up two catches to Shakir,
- 42:19Speaker 2: but he also had to pick and coverage on Shakir
- 42:22Speaker 2: and then Keon Coleman, who I still continue to think
- 42:26Speaker 2: is limited as a receiver basically to one a one
- 42:29Speaker 2: trick pony with the jump balls, really did not do
- 42:33Speaker 2: much in this game outside of that one third down
- 42:35Speaker 2: catch on Carlton Davis in the fourth quarter. So the
- 42:39Speaker 2: mindset of we're going to challenge, we're going to play
- 42:41Speaker 2: man coverage, I think is really good from a confidence
- 42:44Speaker 2: standpoint and just from a whole like kind of culture standpoint.
- 42:48Speaker 2: And then I also thought in this game, what they
- 42:50Speaker 2: were able to do is they were able to get
- 42:52Speaker 2: Josh Allen to be a little bit indecisive. I thought
- 42:54Speaker 2: he was holding the ball. I thought he was scanning
- 42:57Speaker 2: a lot looking for open receivers extend plays, and then
- 43:01Speaker 2: holding and holding and looking around trying to find outlets,
- 43:04Speaker 2: and they kind of got him off his game a
- 43:06Speaker 2: little bit. Now, he was still really good, like, don't
- 43:09Speaker 2: get me wrong, he was still a net positive in
- 43:11Speaker 2: this game, but he was also not superman like. He
- 43:15Speaker 2: was not what we normally see from Josh Allen when
- 43:20Speaker 2: he's on his game. So whatever, you know, the man coverage,
- 43:24Speaker 2: taking away the run game, I think those two things
- 43:26Speaker 2: together kind of got this Bill's offense off its game
- 43:29Speaker 2: a little bit. And the turnovers and the penalties I
- 43:32Speaker 2: think were a byproduct of that in a lot of ways.
- 43:36Speaker 2: So you can say that Bill's off and shoot them
- 43:38Speaker 2: shot themselves in the foot. They did, especially early on
- 43:41Speaker 2: in this game. The first quarter was a flagfest for
- 43:43Speaker 2: them offensively, and that hurt them, but it was good
- 43:46Speaker 2: to see them come out. And I thought he looked
- 43:50Speaker 2: a little bit rattled honestly in this game at times,
- 43:53Speaker 2: especially late, which was good.
- 43:54Speaker 1: I mean, there's evidence of it. He starts yelling at
- 43:56Speaker 1: Anthony Jennings at the end of the game.
- 43:58Speaker 2: Yeah, and.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Let me I think Josh Allen little bit of a
- 44:06Speaker 1: sore loser.
- 44:07Speaker 2: Oh you just hate him?
- 44:08Speaker 1: Well, he's one, hang on, hang on. This is why
- 44:11Speaker 1: I paused. I don't know that that's a bad thing
- 44:14Speaker 1: for a quarterback.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Yeah, Brady was.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, and but like everybody, oh Josh, he's such
- 44:21Speaker 1: a nice guy and he's such a no, he's kind
- 44:23Speaker 1: of an a hole, and you get to now, you
- 44:25Speaker 1: don't see it a lot because objectively, he's not losing
- 44:28Speaker 1: a lot of games right now. But I think they
- 44:31Speaker 1: got under his skin. And because he's not in that
- 44:34Speaker 1: spot that often and he's still younger, Like Brady learned
- 44:38Speaker 1: to hone that later in his career and didn't even
- 44:41Speaker 1: when he got frustrated, he didn't let it impact him.
- 44:43Speaker 1: But like, like, he wasn't in that spot a lot,
- 44:46Speaker 1: and I think he kind of had to learn that thing,
- 44:48Speaker 1: like most quarterbacks do. I think Josh Allen got. I
- 44:51Speaker 1: think they kind of pissed him off that he couldn't
- 44:55Speaker 1: do what he wanted to do. The plays he wanted
- 44:57Speaker 1: to make that are usually there aren't there. He couldn't
- 44:59Speaker 1: run around as much. He started forcing running around a
- 45:02Speaker 1: little bit late in that game, and you saw it.
- 45:04Speaker 1: His emotions came out a little bit, which doesn't usually
- 45:07Speaker 1: happen with him. He got a little pissed off. And
- 45:09Speaker 1: so again I'm not knocking him for being the sore loser.
- 45:12Speaker 1: I think you want your quarterback to be a little
- 45:14Speaker 1: bit of an ale at times. But they and now
- 45:19Speaker 1: you're gonna have to deal with that in the flip
- 45:20Speaker 1: side when he comes back up here in December, like
- 45:22Speaker 1: he's gonna have a hair cross his ass. Yeah for you,
- 45:25Speaker 1: and he's you're gonna get his best punch because he
- 45:27Speaker 1: didn't get his best punch on that was not his
- 45:29Speaker 1: best Punchich apparently was me knocking him for saying that,
- 45:33Speaker 1: Like we had a whole thing at halftime. I was
- 45:35Speaker 1: very confused by that. I meant to ask you about that,
- 45:38Speaker 1: but they very clearly got to him mentally, and it
- 45:43Speaker 1: showed a little bit and he was more than a
- 45:44Speaker 1: little bit.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Oh, I don't want to take like the numbers that
- 45:47Speaker 2: he had were still really good. Like it's not like
- 45:49Speaker 2: he played awful in this game, but he just didn't.
- 45:52Speaker 1: He started making bad decisions in the clutch. And they
- 45:55Speaker 1: want terrible decisions. Let me afraid what they weren't bad
- 45:59Speaker 1: at And he's was not making the right decision regularly
- 46:02Speaker 1: down the stretch. And that's a mental thing because he's
- 46:04Speaker 1: been a lot better about that as of late, and
- 46:06Speaker 1: he's always been. He was doing that against the Patriots
- 46:08Speaker 1: before he was doing it against anybody else. So yeah,
- 46:12Speaker 1: I like, No, I think they rattled him, and I
- 46:14Speaker 1: think it was more in a little bit, and I
- 46:16Speaker 1: think they raled them. I just want to clear this up.
- 46:18Speaker 1: So we were texting at halftime, if you don't mind me
- 46:20Speaker 1: doing this on the air.
- 46:21Speaker 2: No, And because I'm sure I was right, Well, we
- 46:24Speaker 2: were kind of.
- 46:24Speaker 1: Talking about the game. I mean you were and you weren't.
- 46:28Speaker 2: I don't even remember what I said.
- 46:30Speaker 1: You basically said, I'll go back and find it. You
- 46:32Speaker 1: basically said, like that's the worst half of offense. The
- 46:36Speaker 1: Bills have played ever or.
- 46:38Speaker 2: Not not ever, but like this year definitely.
- 46:42Speaker 1: And I just kind of said, like, I, I don't know,
- 46:46Speaker 1: they were fine. You said, no, no, no, You said I
- 46:49Speaker 1: didn't feel good about second half. You said I didn't
- 46:51Speaker 1: feel good about.
- 46:51Speaker 2: Second I didn't feel good about it.
- 46:52Speaker 1: They didn't score at the end of the first half,
- 46:54Speaker 1: and that scored the touchdown, and that worried me. And
- 46:56Speaker 1: you said the Bills played about as bad as they
- 46:58Speaker 1: could offensively in the first half, and I said, that's true.
- 47:01Speaker 1: I said, the Patriots defense made some plays. And you
- 47:04Speaker 1: took that as the slight of Josh Allen, which me saying, no,
- 47:09Speaker 1: he's actually not playing that bad. I actually think the
- 47:11Speaker 1: Patriots are kind of having some siller. He really was
- 47:15Speaker 1: knocking Josh Allen.
- 47:15Speaker 2: I don't understand that because I felt like they really
- 47:19Speaker 2: did not play well in the first half.
- 47:20Speaker 1: Offense, we're fine, They've played worse.
- 47:23Speaker 2: I don't know. The first quarter they had like five
- 47:25Speaker 2: or six penalties against them on offense, and then they
- 47:28Speaker 2: turned the ball over twice. I think if.
- 47:32Speaker 1: You want to talk about the turnovers, they they yeah,
- 47:34Speaker 1: they the turnovers were uncharacteristic to them, but.
- 47:37Speaker 2: They hadn't lost the turnover batt on twenty five straight.
- 47:39Speaker 1: He still he was still like making some throws and yeah,
- 47:43Speaker 1: but he always makes it, so yeah, it was uncharacteristic.
- 47:45Speaker 1: I don't think it was as bad as they could play.
- 47:47Speaker 2: It was. That's as bad as they could play in
- 47:49Speaker 2: the first half. The second half, I thought that.
- 47:51Speaker 1: I think the Patriots defense was part I'm not saying
- 47:53Speaker 1: that the defense isn't part of it. So okay, I
- 47:56Speaker 1: took that comment to mean, like, the Patriots defense has
- 47:58Speaker 1: nothing to do with this the no, no.
- 48:01Speaker 2: But the Bills definitely were off their game.
- 48:03Speaker 1: They were off their game. I think calling it as
- 48:05Speaker 1: bad as they me saying it's not as bad as
- 48:07Speaker 1: they could play, I don't think is a knock on
- 48:08Speaker 1: Josh Allen.
- 48:09Speaker 2: Okay.
- 48:10Speaker 1: The other thing that Josh Allen's the only what I
- 48:12Speaker 1: should have said, Josh Allen is the only one who's
- 48:14Speaker 1: playing well. None of he was getting That's what Bills
- 48:17Speaker 1: fans think every game is. Was Josh Allen doing everything
- 48:21Speaker 1: one on eleven, him getting no help. That's kind of
- 48:23Speaker 1: what the first half of that game was actually.
- 48:25Speaker 2: Okay, So the last thing here on Josh Allen and
- 48:27Speaker 2: then we'll move on. I watching him over the years,
- 48:31Speaker 2: and you know, watching as much of him as we
- 48:33Speaker 2: have as Patriots fans. When he gets in, everybody's terrified
- 48:39Speaker 2: of letting him get into playground mode, right, Like no
- 48:41Speaker 2: one wants to play him off script. But I'm telling you,
- 48:44Speaker 2: when he gets like that, he's worse. He's a worse quarterback.
- 48:48Speaker 2: Like when he's playing in structure and on time and
- 48:51Speaker 2: in rhythm, he is unbeatable.
- 48:53Speaker 1: Now he is a new development, yes.
- 48:56Speaker 2: Like in the last two or three years, last two years, Okay, sure, whatever,
- 49:00Speaker 2: But the point is is, like I say, coming into
- 49:02Speaker 2: this game, that all these teams are playing soft zone
- 49:08Speaker 2: coverage and they're backing off and they're trying to keep
- 49:11Speaker 2: them in the pocket, and they're playing that whole game
- 49:13Speaker 2: like march on us right might go yeah, ten, twelve, thirteen,
- 49:17Speaker 2: fourteen plays, and this Bill's offense is just said okay,
- 49:20Speaker 2: Like they've just said, okay, we'll turn around and we'll
- 49:23Speaker 2: hand the ball off to James Cook, we'll throw the
- 49:25Speaker 2: ball out in the flat to Khalil Shakir, we'll use
- 49:28Speaker 2: Dalton Kinkaid, like they've been more than happy to just
- 49:32Speaker 2: matriculate the ball down the field, and they don't make
- 49:35Speaker 2: mistakes like they used to. Now they did in this game,
- 49:38Speaker 2: but they didn't for the first four weeks of the season.
- 49:41Speaker 2: They didn't at all last year. They don't. Alan doesn't
- 49:45Speaker 2: make mental mistakes anymore in structure. He's not missing throws
- 49:49Speaker 2: like he used to from like an accuracy standpoint in
- 49:53Speaker 2: structure anymore. And to me, like, all you're doing by
- 49:56Speaker 2: playing that style is you're allowing him to play within
- 50:01Speaker 2: himself and not start to try to be a hero.
- 50:04Speaker 2: And whenever I watch him, I really do think that
- 50:08Speaker 2: the way to beat him is to get him to
- 50:10Speaker 2: be reckless, like get him to start running around, get
- 50:13Speaker 2: him to start throwing all these off platform throws and
- 50:16Speaker 2: trying to create out of structure and trying to do
- 50:18Speaker 2: all this different stuff, because he makes more mistakes that way.
- 50:22Speaker 2: And yeah, he's probably gonna land some punches playing that way,
- 50:25Speaker 2: whether it's with his legs or with his arm, But
- 50:27Speaker 2: you also are going to land some punches, like you're
- 50:29Speaker 2: also going to force turnovers. You also are going to
- 50:32Speaker 2: get third down stops to keep them to a field
- 50:34Speaker 2: goal late in the game. They when you just let
- 50:38Speaker 2: him sit there in the pocket and make throws and
- 50:40Speaker 2: you're just watching him, you know, as a defensive line
- 50:42Speaker 2: you're just staring at him make throws because you're so
- 50:44Speaker 2: petrified of him getting out of the pocket. He has
- 50:47Speaker 2: evolved like he is more than capable of playing that way,
- 50:50Speaker 2: and so I think you can't play him like that anymore.
- 50:53Speaker 1: I also think this is where you get some of
- 50:57Speaker 1: the disconnect in the narrative of Josh Allen in the
- 50:59Speaker 1: way he's talked about versus what he actually does. I think,
- 51:04Speaker 1: and I'm not saying teams directly are like this, but
- 51:07Speaker 1: I think this is kind of why he's viewed the
- 51:09Speaker 1: way he is around the league. You watch the highlights
- 51:12Speaker 1: and you see him make two or three of those
- 51:14Speaker 1: unbelievable off structure plays per game. You think like, wow,
- 51:18Speaker 1: like he's doing this every because he's good at that. Yeah,
- 51:20Speaker 1: and you're like, wow, he's doing this every week, and like,
- 51:22Speaker 1: you can't let this guy get out of structure. I
- 51:24Speaker 1: see these plays every week. But then when you cause
- 51:26Speaker 1: you're you know, people are watching on red Zone, are
- 51:28Speaker 1: watching their own team, whatever, they're looking on Twitter, when
- 51:31Speaker 1: you actually watch him play a full game, yeah, he
- 51:35Speaker 1: makes two or three of those plays. But you also
- 51:38Speaker 1: see how many misses there are in there, and I
- 51:40Speaker 1: think teams get so freaked out by the two or
- 51:43Speaker 1: three plays he does make, because he does make. What
- 51:46Speaker 1: were he had two in this one. I'm trying to
- 51:47Speaker 1: remember what they were not The one on the first
- 51:49Speaker 1: drive was a nice play by him. Nobody gave Dalton
- 51:51Speaker 1: Can gave credit for that catch. That was a nice catch,
- 51:53Speaker 1: but he did, though there was one I did. I
- 51:56Speaker 1: texted you right away, what a catch by Dalton can get?
- 51:58Speaker 2: It was good catch. No one's talking about.
- 52:01Speaker 1: I didn't see one person talk about what a cat
- 52:03Speaker 1: not on the broadcast.
- 52:03Speaker 2: Nobody will get the King kid.
- 52:05Speaker 1: He was good. You can probably remember better than me.
- 52:08Speaker 1: But there were two or three players where I's like, yeah,
- 52:10Speaker 1: all right, Josh Allen, whatever. But the one like the
- 52:14Speaker 1: one a keyon Coleman in the back of the end
- 52:15Speaker 1: zone and that it's like the way to play him
- 52:19Speaker 1: is you live with the two or three right and
- 52:23Speaker 1: you because people don't realize how many of those plays
- 52:26Speaker 1: he tries to make him dozen't and he still makes
- 52:28Speaker 1: them at a higher rate than most. So it's not
- 52:30Speaker 1: me saying he shouldn't do it. It's not a criticism,
- 52:33Speaker 1: even though you want to make it one. But it's
- 52:35Speaker 1: like that's kind of the way you play him now
- 52:37Speaker 1: is yeah, he's gonna get his but we'll take the
- 52:40Speaker 1: five or six incompletions on the reckless plays that come
- 52:43Speaker 1: with it, rather than let him sit in the pocket.
- 52:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's I think that's exactly what they did.
- 52:48Speaker 2: I think that was the game plan, like to rush
- 52:51Speaker 2: te off. They did use some spies and like low
- 52:54Speaker 2: zones and stuff like that to spy him a little bit,
- 52:57Speaker 2: but they did not hold back the pash like this
- 53:00Speaker 2: wasn't a mushrush, contain them in the pocket, just watch
- 53:04Speaker 2: them throw type of game plan. This was, you know,
- 53:08Speaker 2: let's get after him a little bit, and it worked,
- 53:10Speaker 2: you know, over forty percent pressure rate. It definitely worked
- 53:13Speaker 2: and had an impact in this game. The last good Obviously,
- 53:17Speaker 2: we spent a lot of time on the goods this
- 53:19Speaker 2: week for right rightfully, so I want to give some
- 53:21Speaker 2: kudos to your specialists over there, Barthy.
- 53:24Speaker 1: There have three especially player the week in a row.
- 53:27Speaker 2: Borgallis drills it Andy Andy in the postgame locker room
- 53:31Speaker 2: with the chance drills a fifty two yarder and Sneaky
- 53:35Speaker 2: Big play in this game, Bryce Bearinger hit a seventy
- 53:38Speaker 2: two yard punt that flipped the entire field in the
- 53:43Speaker 2: Patriots favor and made the Bills go on a long
- 53:46Speaker 2: drive and they ended up stalling out and kicking a
- 53:48Speaker 2: field goal. I believe on that drive that was a
- 53:51Speaker 2: really important punt that I don't think Israeli getting talked
- 53:55Speaker 2: about because of all the great things Drake made it
- 53:58Speaker 2: in this game, But any two yard pint in that
- 54:01Speaker 2: spot was really really important. So both specialists coming through a.
- 54:05Speaker 1: Couple things with a nerd out here a ton we
- 54:07Speaker 1: got very minor Patriots breaking news, well major to some. Okay,
- 54:11Speaker 1: all white uniforms this Sunday.
- 54:13Speaker 2: I did it. Yeah, I knew that. You knew that.
- 54:15Speaker 1: We didn't announce it, they just announced it. They've never
- 54:18Speaker 1: worn white pants with these jerseys, so that's new. Yeah,
- 54:21Speaker 1: first time thing.
- 54:22Speaker 2: I believe it's the first time that they've done that
- 54:25Speaker 2: white out since twenty seventeen.
- 54:30Speaker 1: So not even the silver pants, not the blue, not
- 54:32Speaker 1: the blue pants. The other thing. So you want to
- 54:34Speaker 1: talk about underrated special teams plays in this game? Yeah,
- 54:36Speaker 1: and this this goes back kind of like I talked
- 54:38Speaker 1: about Drake may earlier right and taking the zero yard sack.
- 54:42Speaker 1: Andy Borgollis hits the fifty two yard or kick the
- 54:45Speaker 1: crap out of it. Awesome kick, deserves a ton of praise.
- 54:48Speaker 1: Let's not forget he so remember in Miami again. I'm
- 54:52Speaker 1: gonna go back to the Miami game and this is
- 54:54Speaker 1: lessons learned. And they ultimately won the Miami game, but
- 54:56Speaker 1: it's lessons learned. He hits that hits that hu huge
- 55:00Speaker 1: fifty three yarder after missing a couple of kicks, and
- 55:02Speaker 1: then what does he do? He puts the kickoff short.
- 55:05Speaker 1: They try the dirty kick. It's a bad time to
- 55:07Speaker 1: do it. He puts the kickoff short to give Miami
- 55:09Speaker 1: a short field. It really could have cost him. It didn't,
- 55:11Speaker 1: but it really could have. What happens this time, hits
- 55:14Speaker 1: the fifty two yard and what does he do? Perfect
- 55:16Speaker 1: kickoff right between the one and two yard line. You
- 55:19Speaker 1: can't place it any better than that. It requires a
- 55:22Speaker 1: long runoff. It takes seven seconds off the clock. That
- 55:25Speaker 1: costs the Bills an entire play. They probably could have
- 55:28Speaker 1: run two plays at the end of that game. If
- 55:30Speaker 1: it's a you know, a less impressive kickoff and the goal,
- 55:33Speaker 1: and then they only draw the hold or they also
- 55:36Speaker 1: draw the hold, so it backs them up even more
- 55:38Speaker 1: So Jeremy Springer for not going I hate. I'm not
- 55:42Speaker 1: anti the new kickoff rules. I like them. I know
- 55:44Speaker 1: him the minority on that. I hate the dirty kick
- 55:46Speaker 1: in that situation. It's cost too many teams this year.
- 55:49Speaker 1: Teams need to stop doing it. I love that they
- 55:51Speaker 1: didn't do it in that situation. So credit to Jeremy
- 55:53Speaker 1: Springer for making the adjustment. Credit to Andy Borgallis for
- 55:57Speaker 1: hitting the big kick coming back in excellent kickoff. Excellent, excellent,
- 56:01Speaker 1: excellent kickoff. Cannot stress that enough. And then the coverage
- 56:05Speaker 1: team not only tackling him when they did, but drawing
- 56:08Speaker 1: the hold and backing them up. That kickoff was a
- 56:11Speaker 1: significant play. And like it happened right after the field goal,
- 56:15Speaker 1: don't lose track of that kickoff. That was a major
- 56:18Speaker 1: play for them. So and it was something that they sorry,
- 56:20Speaker 1: something that they watched three weeks ago. Yeah, and boom,
- 56:25Speaker 1: turn around and fixed it. So I just really.
- 56:27Speaker 2: Quickly on the punt, I short changed in my yard.
- 56:28Speaker 2: It was seventy three yard punt. So the Patriots ended
- 56:32Speaker 2: that fifty three at the net. Yeah, that ended that
- 56:34Speaker 2: drive before on the Vederian low fall start, which ouch
- 56:40Speaker 2: at their own twenty seven yard line, Barringer booms it
- 56:44Speaker 2: seventy three yards and gets them to the Buffalo twenty
- 56:48Speaker 2: and that was the drive that the Bills kicked the
- 56:50Speaker 2: field goal to tie the game. They stall out on
- 56:53Speaker 2: that drive if that pint doesn't go seventy three yards,
- 56:57Speaker 2: and let's say the Bills start at the Patriots forty
- 57:00Speaker 2: yard line instead their own forty yard line, excuse me,
- 57:03Speaker 2: instead of their twenty yard line, Like, maybe that drive
- 57:05Speaker 2: doesn't stall out, and it's a touchdown on that drive
- 57:08Speaker 2: and they take a lead, and then the Patriots have
- 57:10Speaker 2: to score a touchdown at the end of the game
- 57:12Speaker 2: to win it. So it just was a really big
- 57:15Speaker 2: swing in this game. Both specialists were really, really good
- 57:18Speaker 2: in this game. I thought they deserved to be on
- 57:20Speaker 2: the goods. I really think that it's been a strength
- 57:25Speaker 2: of the team overall. Now there's been some penalties on
- 57:27Speaker 2: special teams early on in the season. They have seemed
- 57:30Speaker 2: to clean that up a little bit as the season
- 57:32Speaker 2: goes on, and now that unit has become a real
- 57:35Speaker 2: strength of the team. All Right, we gotta get to
- 57:37Speaker 2: some of the bads talk about the running back situation.

- 1:01:59Speaker 1: make with the regular chips, but I'll get the scoops
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: and then you fill the scoop, you put in a
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: little bit of meat and the sauce and whatever and
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: vegetables and the cheese, and you can essentially have like
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: they're like nacho cupcakes kind.
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: Of you see what I'm saying, right, That's kind of
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: what it is with the dip, right, because yeah, the
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: scoop and then you can put the dip in there
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: and it's like a little you know, like cookie or
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: cupcake or whatever you want to call it.
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: Real quick before before we get back to it. You
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: know what else is talking about the weather and the
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: changing of the seasons. Today is a very big day
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: on the football calendar. Why is that starting today? Because
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: this happens every year and it starts today, usually starts
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: this this Wednesday in October, there is an NFL or
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: FBS game on. Yeah, every single day for the next
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: forty nine days. There is a football game on to
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: watch every day between now and the day before Thanksgiving.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: Love it.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: We got Missouri State and Middle Tennessee and Liberty and
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: UTEP tonight shut out Pop Douglas. That's right, Pop Douglas.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: I don't think Patriots have anybody from any of those
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: other school. But and then obviously Thursday night football Tomorrow
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: night and we're off and rolling.
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: So it is.
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: This is what I call peak football season.
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: We're in it.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: It's every single day, and we're gonna get our first
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: sports Equinox soon too.
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: I guess we got a coup more wins the NBA's
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: last week in October.
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: Yeah, so we got Celtics there, like the twenty second
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: I want to say, I am We're probably gonna watch
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: and hopefully they are better than I expect. That's all
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: I'm gonna say about the Bruins. I was also very disappointed. Well,
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: and then we'll get back on top.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: I will say, real quick, Bruins former player who coached
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: elsewhere and then came back to coach the team. That's
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: kind of in right now. It's kind of the thing
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: in the city.
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: So okay, I'll give it a two second Bruins take. Yeah,
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: they should be pretty good defensively like McAvoy, Lynn Holme
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: zador Off and if Swimming gets his head out of
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: his butt, then they should be able to keep the
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: puck out of the net.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: I think we are going to see a lot of
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: one nothing into one overtime games is what I think
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: we're gonna see, so but that you can win a
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: lot of games that way. It's fun.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: I actually feel like there's a number of and the
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: Bruins are maybe a little further behind where the Patriots are,
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: but I do feel like there's a lot of parallels
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: talking about this Patriots team going into the season and
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: talking about this Bruins team did what was the number
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: one take all off season with the Patriots, how how
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: are they going to be? What are they gonna do?
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: It all comes down to what quarterback. I kind of
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: feel the same way about the Bruins. There's probably a
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: ceiling with the roster, but it's Jeremy Swayman. It's the
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: young quarterback, it's the young goalie. And Swayman's a little more,
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: you know, has a little more experience, a little more season.
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: He's still a young guy, right, Yeah. I feel like
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: he is there, Drake May, and they're gonna sink or
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: swim with him, just like we felt like the Patriots
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: are gonna sink or swim with Drake May. And obviously
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: they're doing a lot of swimming right now.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: Okay, so there's your Bruins man and I hope you
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: enjoy it. I made it relevant, so the the bads,
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: there are some bads in this game. I don't want
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: to gloss over him just because it was a great win.
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: I think the biggest one, though, to come out of
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: this game is a combination of that's going on with
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: the Patriots run game. They're running back position with Antonio
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: Gibson's injury. For those of you that might not know,
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: he tore his ACL in this game on Sunday. He
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: is out for the rest of the season and crutches
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: after the game. It was a bummer bummer of an injury.
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: So there's a million different technacles to talk about with this. Yeah,
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: I think the first one that I want to talk about, though, Alex,
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: is just what is wrong with the Patriots run game,
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: because right now they are thirty second in the league
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: in rush EPA, They're thirty first in rushing success rate,
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: so they have one of the worst run offenses in
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: the entire NFL. And they even are still at the
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: bottom of the league if you bake in Drake May's
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: rushing yards and rushing production, which is not good. So
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: I did some digging on this last night, and my
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: findings were a little bit troubling. I'm not gonna lie
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: to you because I would have much rather have heard
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: the stats and the film and all that say. It's
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: four new pieces on the offensive line. It's a new offense,
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: like they just have to gell as an offensive line
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: to get this run game going. But from a metrics standpoint,
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: from an analytical standpoint, it's not the run blocking. Now
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: that's not to say that the run blocking is.
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: What does the tape tell you?
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: The tape is telling me the exact same thing, and
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: I'm trying to kind of get this out. So they
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: are averaging right now two point three yards before contact
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: per rush, So that tells you really like how much
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: push they're getting. Yeah, right, two point three yards before
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: contact per rush is eleventh.
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: That's pretty good number.
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: Eleventh not bad.
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: I think they were like they might not have even
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: been at one last year. They were right around one.
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: So eleventh is decent. Now there's another statistic that I
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: really like and shout out to FTN Fantasy, which is
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: kind of like the New Football Outsiders. They have a
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: really coolest stats hub. DVOA is part of it, so
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: if you want to subscribe to it, that you get DVA,
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: but you also get a lot of these numbers that
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: I'm reading off. It's a really cool resource. Adjusted lineyards
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: is basically just like a fancy way to account for
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: the offensive lines production in the run game, Like how
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: much is the offensive line helping the run game?
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: Isn't that just yards before contact?
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: It's a fancier yards before contact? Okay, but we have
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: yards before contacts just tangible adjusted lineyards. They are seventeenth,
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: so middle of the pack, not not terrible. So based
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: off of yards before contact and adjusted lineyards, they should
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: be like a middle of the pack, solid fine run team,
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: average run offense, and they're thirty second in the league.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: So what's going on? Like, what's wrong? So there's two
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: things that I see.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: By the way, last year they were one point two
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: yards before contact, Okay, I think that got boosted late
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: in the year.
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: So here are the metrics. This is the Patriots running backs.
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: This is what the ball care years are responsible for.
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: Yards after contact yep, thirty second, dead last in the NFL.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: One point five yards after contact per rush. That is
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: thirty second in the league.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: I have a theory on that, but continue, they're.
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: Mistackles, forced rate, or they're avoided tackle rate thirty second
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: nine point four percent, thirty second in the league. They
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: are dead last in avoiding tackles and they are dead
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: last in creating yards after contact. They are getting some push,
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: they are not getting the backs to the second.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: They are getting what's being given to them and nothing more. Exactly,
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: So is that on traditional runs or on all runs?
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: On all runs, so you include scrambles? Uh no, those
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: are just traditional design run but it includes like the
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: Trayvon Henderson seventeen yard end a round week one and
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: like that kind of thing.
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: Okay, anything that goes down as a rush attempt, that's
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: not scramble. So the stats tell you that it's a
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: running back problem, not a blocking not saying that they
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: would be in the number one rush offense in the
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: NFL based off the blocking that they're getting. But the
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: stats are telling you that it's a run blocking or
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: excuse me, it's a running back problem. The running backs
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: are not doing anything with the football. Now, the film,
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: I think is always going to be there's a million
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: different reasons why, right, Like, there's not ever going to
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: be one reason. But what I'm seeing on the film
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: is that they're running a lot of outside zone and
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: duo outside zone, stretch right, just aim it right at
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: the tackle, everybody steps out ninety degrees and we're stretching
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: to the sideline. The goal of that play is to
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: cut back that you want to try to pin the
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: defense into the sideline and then cut the ball back
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: through the middle of the field. That's the goal. But
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: what's happening to me is that I don't think the
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: backs are really letting things develop in the way that
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: they need to, and they're not hitting the cutback lanes
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: consistently enough that are forming the other run scheme that
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: they're using a lot, which I think speaks to the
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: yards before contact metric being in a good spot. Is
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: they're running a lot of gap or duo, which is
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: just double teams on the inside and there the line
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: is going to block the bigs, they're going to take
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: the defensive line and they're just going to double team
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: on the inside. And then once you get to the
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: second level, you know, once you start talking about the
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: linebackers and stuff like that, it's two fold on the back.
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: So one it's on the running back to make the
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: linebackers wrong. So if the running back plays the A gap,
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: you bounce to the B. If they play the B,
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: you bounce to the A right. That's their responsibility is
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: to read the movement of the running backs at the
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: second or the linebackers at the second level and make
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: them wrong, put them in the wrong gap with the
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: cut that you make.
- 1:10:43Speaker 5: Ye.
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: The other thing is is that you aren't going to
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: get on duo. You're not going to get a lot
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: of second level climb, Like the blocks are not going
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: to always develop to the second level or the third
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: level of the defense because they're double teaming on the
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: line of scrimmage. So it's on the backs once you
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: get down and you get some of that momentum, it's
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: on the backs to break tackles, like the backs have
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: to either avoid the tackle or they have to run
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: through arm tackles, and they have to make yards after
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: contact to really hit those explosives off of duo. So
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: I think that that's probably what it mostly is is
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: a combination of the scheme that they're running and the
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: types of runs that they're running. They're really majoring in
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: duo and outside zone, like those are the two runs
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: that they're running most of the time. But the other
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: thing that I see a lot of too. Statistically, they
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: are one of the worst offenses in terms of the
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: running back production. Like just what they're getting from their
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: running backs has not been good.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: So I do wonder if part of that especially, I
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: don't know if you can break that number down to
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: the last three weeks, Some of those numbers probably good.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: When you're fumbling a ton and you're being told you
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: got to hold onto the ball and you know you're
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: still being put back out there. Yeah, you're not going
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: to break as many tackles. You're not gonna you know,
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: make as many guys because it's two hands on the ball.
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: You don't want to stay up too long. You get
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: it punched out. Like you're more focused on that, and
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: that's maybe not a bad thing.
- 1:12:08Speaker 4: But like.
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: I don't know, I guess that's the end of the tape.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: But do you see where I'm coming from, Like, yeah.
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: No, they do wonder run game right now is they're
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: not getting stuffed. They're not getting negative runs.
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: They have like the fewest stuffs, right so.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: They're tenth and stuff rate, which is good. And they're
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: also tenth closed yeah yeah, or tenth best. You know,
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: they're also tenth best in power success rate. So they're
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: the third and fourth down and goal line runs. They're
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: they're getting the ball in the end zone and they're
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: getting those first downs and they're not getting a ton
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: of negative plays. So I said yesterday on PU and
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: I stand by it after doing this deep dive, like
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: the run game is keeping them on schedule enough where
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: they can still remain balanced, So they're not if you're
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: running on first and ten and it's becoming second and twelve,
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: you have to abandon the run, right, That's kind of
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: what happened in Week one, Right, they couldn't get the
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: run game going at all. But if you're chipping away
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: in the run game where it's like three, four five
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: yards at a time, maybe you're not hitting any explosives
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: in the run game, but you're still staying on schedule.
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: That's good enough. If you're this efficient passing the ball.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: Yeah, and especially in the Josh McDaniels offense, where it's
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: all about staying on schedule, right.
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: If you're efficient enough in the passing game, and they
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: have been highly efficient off play action, I should say
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: as well, which is a big part of this, that
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: second and seven becomes a first down then it doesn't
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: matter that you're not hitting explosives in the run game.
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: But it's when you get into second and twelve when
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: you can't pick up a third and one on the ground,
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: you know, when you can't punch it in down on
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: the goal line in the run game, like that is
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: when it starts to really hurt you. And so that's
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: the run game.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: Now.
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: The running back situation is a whole other layer is
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: a whole nother thing. This season, they have to ride
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: with Ramandre Stevenson and Treveon Henderson like they're not going
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: I don't think. I mean, maybe they could swing a
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: deal out the deadline, but I don't think they're gonna
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: go out and get a factor back that's gonna change
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: the hierarchy of their back.
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: Do you want my conspiracy theory?
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: Sure?
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: So I'm not saying they're gonna do this. I don't
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: even know that I'm saying they should do it. But
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: there's a team that is struggling that already made a trade.
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: Start selling off pieces.
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: You want them to trade for Derrick Henry.
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: I don't know if I want them to, but like,
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: can we have some fun and talk about this? He
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: has the relationship with Rabel, they have the cap space
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: to absorb what is a monstrous contract like Baltimore might
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: be selling now he's had some fubble problems too, and
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: he hasn't quite been the same guy at times this year.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: But like, how does it not cross your mind? It
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: does if we're gonna do all this stuff about AJ
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: Brown and well, Mike Rabel and AJ Brown in their relationship,
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: and the Patriots need a receiver to trade for a
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: running back bike, And I mean, what would you have
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: to give up? Like, I'm not giving up a top
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: one hundred pick for one year as great as Derrick
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: Henry is, sure, you know, but like I don't know,
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: let's have something that I'm bringing this up to have fun,
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: which I know you hate, but like, no, it's a
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: fair point because if they're gonna if they're going to
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: trade for like you call the factor back, Yep, it's him.
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: They like they're not I've seen people throughout Breese Hall
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: and Devin h Haan, those guys are not getting traded
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: in the vision or like Camara, it's not gonna happen Camara,
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: maybe Kamara, but like if you're gonna trade for Kamara,
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: who do you think Rabel would rather trade for Kamara
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: Henry because they're probably gonna cost you about the same.
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: I think Rabel would probably rather Henry McDaniels might rather
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: come out.
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: Now, that's an interesting point.
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: Because Kamara is so good in the passing and he's
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: such a matchup weapon in the passing game that I'm
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: sure Josh would love to have Kamara.
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: That's an interesting point.
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: So it's a good point.
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: Do you think they'd cost about the same?
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: I can't are they they're they're like, I feel like
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: they're around the same age.
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: But yeah, about Kamara's thirty I think Derrick Henry's thirty one. Yeah,
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: so I think the contracts are relative similar to Henry's
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: thirty one.
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: I wouldn't rule out a trade for running back because.
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: It's not just but not necessarily those guys just like
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: a running back.
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: Yeah, but even in contracts, I wouldn't hold it against
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: him if it was one of those guys either, because, look,
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: you have a chance to really do something here this season.
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: Like you might be year ahead of schedule, this might
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: be like the Commanders were last year, But you have
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: a chance to really do something in a weaker conference
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: this season in the AFC. You know, no Burrow, whatever
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: is going on in Baltimore, who the hell knows. You know,
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: the Chargers are falling apart. They have injuries all over
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: the place in Los Angeles. Now, like this is Kansas
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: City's two and three, Like they're gonna get hot Kansas City,
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: I think at some point. But they're not in a
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: good place. Houston hasn't been very good. Like, you have
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: an opportunity here to do something this season, and this
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: is right now, at least offensively. This is the biggest
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: problem they have on the team is their lead back
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: is keeps putting the ball on the ground and they're
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: getting no extra production out of their running backs, Like
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: they're not The running backs are not adding anything to
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: the offense right now, and that is hurting them. It's
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: it's really the only thing that's hurting them offensively. So
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: if you trade for a running back like Derek Henner
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: and Alvin Kamara, that's obviously a big swing. But even
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: a running back that maybe is comparable to Remandre that
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: can just put Remondre on notice a little bit like
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: that I think could be very helpful too. And let's
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: face it, like Remandre is fumbling the ball. Now, Antonio
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: Gibson's hurt, he's out for the season, and so you
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: need depth at running back, but you also might need
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: you might need a bell cap, like you might need
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: a number one guy. And I'll just say get this
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: off my chest now. I've been going back and forth
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: on Twitter with people about Travon Henderson, and I'm just
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: telling you how I see it with Traveon Henderson. I'm
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: not trying to, you know, kill the kid. He's a rookie.
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: He's developing. He has not played particularly well. He has
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: not played particularly well. And I get that he hasn't fumbled,
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: and that in itself is probably like a baseline of like, well,
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: Reminder keeps putting the ball on the ground and Treyvon
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: Henderson isn't. But he hasn't played particularly well. His rushing
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: numbers are not particularly productive. He's at like three something
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: per carry. He is having a lot of trouble in
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: pass protection and with pass blocking. He gave up another
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: hurry in this game and pass blocking. So he is
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: still developing. He's not coming along as quickly as we
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: had hoped, Like we had all hoped that he was
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: going to be a year one factor for the Patriots
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: and it hasn't come to fruition yet. So the worst
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: thing that you can do, in my opinion, is to
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: put more on his plate. Now, he's going to organically
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: have more on his plate because Gibson's not healthy, but
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: to purposely put him out there for forty to fifty
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: snaps a game is just going to kill the kid's confidence,
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: like he's not there yet. And the other thing I
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: would say about Henderson is that he's not built for it,
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: Like this is not the role he was drafted to play.
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: He was not drafted to be a lead back. And
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: I keep hearing him compared to other rookies like Genti
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: or Omarion Hampton or Judkins, and you're comparing him to
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: different kinds of backs, Like you're comparing him to what
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: more is like Ramandre Stevenson than what is Travon Henderson.
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: Travon Henderson was drafted to be a passing game player,
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: to be a sub package running back, to be a
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: change of pace guy. He was not drafted to carry
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: the ball two hundred and fifty times, right, That's not
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: why he's here. And when Ohio State tried to do
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: that with him, he got hurt, and that's why Ohio
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: State went out in the portal and paid Quinchhn Judkins.
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: This is literally what happened at Ohio State is they
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: put too much on Trevon Henderson's play and he wore down.
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: So he's just not that's not who Travon Henderson is
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: and right now version of who. Yeah, they need to
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: get him to p before we can start talking about
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: volume of snaps and touches for him there giving him
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: nine or ten touches the game. He's doing just fine
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: with it, Like does let him develop, don't force him
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: more on his plate if you don't have to.
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: Not that there's that much more they can put on
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: his plate too, because his usage is already pretty high.
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: For SI snap right, he's second on the team and
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: touches like he's getting on the field. He's playing, And
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: we were talking about this yesterday. It's not like they
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: red shirted him. It's not. This is not a James
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: White Remondre Stevenson situation, Remondre's rookie year where they he's
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: riding the bench, he is playing, he is getting touches,
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: he is returning kickoffs. I don't think he's ready for more.
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: I really don't, and I don't think that he's built
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: for more either, Like that's just not the role he
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: was drafted to play. But most importantly, I don't think
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: he was. He's ready to play more and to take
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: on more responsibility. What do you do on kickoffs?
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: So I wonder they're gonna need that third back maybe
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: in the short term, like maybe they trade for for
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: a factor back further down the road. If you just
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: want a guy that's gonna take a couple carries the
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: gameplay special teams to Michael Hasty's on the Dolphins practice
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: squad yep, and he was the kick returner here last
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: year and we know he can do that. And you know,
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: after him, it's not Marcus Jones or Popped Douglas. They've
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: Jeremy Springers talked about this. You need a guy, you know,
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: more of a running back, build a bigger body. Do
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: you try Kashawn Booty?
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: I don't know, what do you think about Kyle Williams
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: because he's practiced it since the summer.
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: So that's one where I wonder, like do they feel
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: like he is the build for it or was that
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: more of an emergency thing. I get more involved, get
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: him more involved.
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: Sorry to cut you off. You get them, you get
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: them more involved. And those are probably two of your
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: fastest guys that are returning kickoffs now. So I just
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: wonder if that maybe is an avenue for Kyle Williams
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: to be more involved.
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: It's important. We just talked about the new kick. It's
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: a new play, it's it's yep and that role specifically,
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: teams are not kicking to Travon Henderson, so this guy
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: is going to be essentially your kick returner. Trayvon Henderson's
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: out there as a de turn at this point. Although
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: you you did this on Twitter, I wanted to ask
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: you about this. Yeah, so that because then shows on
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: the broadcast and it didn't show up in the All
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: twenty two.
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: So they's very annoying.
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: They did like a late yeh switch.
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: I'm gonna ask I'm gonna ask a question to Springer,
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: which I know is gonna blow your mind.
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: Because usually don't even go to Springer. I swear to.
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: God, I saw this in the press box and maybe
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: I'm hallucinating, maybe I miss saw it. Now they definitely switched. Yeah,
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: that is on the All twenty two that they switched.
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: But I could have sworn watching it in the press
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: box that they lined up with Remandre on the return
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: team's right and Trayvon Henderson on the left, and they
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: did that right after Gibson got hurt. I think there
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: was maybe two kickoffs in between, and Remandre was on
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: the right, and so the Bills kept on kicking it
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: to Remandre, and then on the last one they switched,
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: and it like baited Buffalo into kicking the ball off
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: to Remandre. I feel it because they had their whole
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: return coverage set up and the kicker was already angled
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: that direction and the return with you know, the coverage
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: was already scripted to go in that direction, so he
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: couldn't kick it off the other way, and so he
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: was forced to kick it off to Travon's.
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: Any rule about those back guys moving, I don't think so.
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: Either.
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: The front guys can't.
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: Yeah, no, there's no rule about that, because the back
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: guys that like he can move before the ball is
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: caught too to get out and they move before it's kicked,
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: is what I'm saying. Uh that I don't know.
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: I don't know that, but I think you'd have to
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: be able to because like or you could well they
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: did it. Could you switch in time? Here's another wrinkle
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: you could do. Teams catch on you switching, stack them
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: to put him next to each other.
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: Stack him and do it at the last second.
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: And then yeah, do it. Have Henderson goes wherever the
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: ball is and now they have to kick it short
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: and try that dirty kick and the teams aren't good
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: at it. You're gonna get start the bolt to forty
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: yard line a whole hell of a lot.
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: Yeah. So I don't know. Maybe I was hallucinating, but
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: I swear to God, and then I tried to go.
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: The TV copy doesn't show it. Yea, the All twenty
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: two doesn't show it. But I could have sworn that
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: I saw them switch at the last second, all right,
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: really quickly, because we're going long here on all this
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: covering tight ends on defense. Dalton Kinkaid didn't answer there. Yeah, problem,
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: And I'm not the biggest Kincaid guy. I tipped the cap.
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: He proved me wrong at least for one game. I
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: like kids these players, you know, I just you know me, like,
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: if you can't block, and then you're not for me.
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: Well, no, he's a slot receiver. Yeah, but he's a
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: decent player, and no, because you got to make sure
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: Josh Allen gets all that credit.
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: So burn Jalen Hawkins and Craig Woodson in man coverage
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: on Roberts Plain. He also was ruled that zone like,
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: he was also really good in zone, finding the soft
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: spots and zone. They did drop Millon Williams on one
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: of them, which was whatever.
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: Okay, well so crant and then go ahead, Yeah, Collinsworth
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: giving Josh Allen a ton of credit for not getting
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: picked off by Milton Williams. You obviously didn't hear this.
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: He did like a whole thing about how what a
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: play it was that Josh Allen didn't get picked off
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: by defensive tackle. Nothing against Milton Williams, but like, yeah,
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: it shouldn't be that hard to figure out your receiver
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: clearing face on the defensive tackle and then whatever it
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: was later that drive. The next drive, same sort of concept,
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: he gets picked off by Marcus Jones. I just that
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: was it was, although I will say so it was
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: a little much from Collinsworth until Drake May started making plays.
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: And then because I usually don't I usually don't mind
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: Collinsworth unless it's allan or Mahomes For whatever reason, he's
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: not as bad with Lamar Jackson or I'm just not
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: recalling it. Yeah, he kind of started doing it with
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: Drake May so maybe there's a new member of the club.
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: They don't have any more scheduled Sunday night football games
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: this year. But like he, Drake May drew out annoying
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: Chris Collinsworth, which is complimentary to May.
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: So covering tight ends is a problem. It's so funny
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: how things change so quickly. In the NFL. They had
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: nothing but box safeties and now they have nothing but
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: free safeties. Like Jalen Hawkins and Craig Woodson are not
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: man coverage players. They are free safeties that to plete
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: playing in the deep part of the field, helping over
- 1:26:30Speaker 2: the top of the defense, whether it's the middle split
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: safety whatever. They they're both decent against the run, and
- 1:26:37Speaker 2: Hawkins is a decent blitzer, but neither one of those
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: guys is built to cover a tight end. Bowers torched
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: him Kincaid toward them. They they're giving up seventy five
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: yards a game to tight ends right now, that's second
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: in the league. Now, they played some good ones, like
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: I'll give him that, Like Pittsburgh also has good tight ends,
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: but they're not covering tight ends very well. Do you
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: try Do you try to put Kyle Duggar back in
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: the plan? You try to put Alex Austin like inside
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: and have him cover tight ends just on third downs?
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: Do you try Marte Mapu maybe as like a tight
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: end stopper. I think they need. It's to the point
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: now and maybe New Orleans doesn't necessarily have the tight
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: end to make them pay for it. I think it's
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: to the point now where you need to start to
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: like think about it differently, like how like who else
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: could we use, you know, especially on third third down,
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: Like if it's third and eight, you know, can we
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: put a guy specifically out there, like Alex Austin who's
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: just going to cover Concaid one on one right and
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: so that we don't have to expose the linebackers in
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: the safeties to the tight end. So it was a problem,
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: you know, what would you do there? That's what I
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: would do. I would try to try some different people.
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that's basically my answer. You know, I
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: broughably talked about them adding a running back to me
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: trade deadline, finding a tight end stopper, whether that's a linebacker,
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: whether that's a safety, whether that's a corner. You could
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: try Alex Austin, you could try Kyle Duggar, maybe try
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: Martine Mapu. Like, I don't know who the right answer is.
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: I would just keep trying people because you've got to
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: find somebody.
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: I would try Alex Austin and again, like, this isn't
- 1:28:08Speaker 2: having him play in your base defense.
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: This is obvious passing situations and right third down, obviously,
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: I will say what I mean, Juwan Johnson's not a
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: bad player. When's the next time they face an elite
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: tight end? Who's Titans tight end? Uh?
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: Ninjoku with the Browns?
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: Oh yeah, okay, three weeks and then Kyle Pitts and
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: then you got Kyle Pitts and then you've got.
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: I don't do the Bucks have a tight end? They do?
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: Why am I blanking on who? We did this earlier
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: this year and I was like, oh, he's an underrated player,
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: and now I'm blanking on who it is because I
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: forgot he was still there. Kate Aughton, Oh right, solid,
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: anything special jetsaid nobody Mike is sick. He's actually been
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: good in Cincinnati. Yeah, now their quarterback will be I
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: don't know Giants said, they don't exactly have Why am
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: I blank on his names? Like one of my favorite
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: players growing up? What was their tight end? That was
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: like awesome? Yes? Uh? And then you get the Bills again,
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: the Ravens.
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: So they got a couple more yep, you know Bill's
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: Ravens Mark Andrews again.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: Yeah, they got to get the charge Smith at the
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: end of the year one more time.
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: Seventy five yards per game, second most in the NFL
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: to tight ends. Right now, that's a problem. So a
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: couple of more on the stuff that gets you beat.
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: Remandre's fumble obviously, just again have to mention it. And
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: then I'm going to come to your side of the
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: street with the penalties, not because I.
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: Mean those very much gotten them beat.
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: Yep. So these penalties are putting them in the stuff
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: that gets you beat this week because these are different
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: kind of penalties. These are late hit personal foul penalties
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: with the game on the line, and this is not
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: holding or false starting in the first quarter. This is
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: tackling a guy when he was already tackled and running
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: the passer. Buffalo goes on a whereas it's a eight
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: place seventy four yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter.
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: Thirty of the seventy four yards were Patriots gifting them
- 1:30:08Speaker 2: fifteen yards on penalties.
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: Yep, that drive.
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: I mean, like, who knows what happens on that drive
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: if they don't have two.
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: Backbreak the game. And look, I'll say I said it
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: last week, I'll say it again more so with the
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: Gibbons penalty. The other two are just bad penalties. But like, yep,
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: that crew was calling it tight. They were calling it
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: tight all night. Some of that was ticky tack obviously
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: not those two, but like the Gibbons, one's TICKI tack.
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: But they're calling a ticky tack all night. You got
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: to know and you got to adjust to that.
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: So that was the drive that made it twenty to seventeen.
- 1:30:38Speaker 2: So it's a ten point game at that point. To
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: your point, if you force a punt there, that's game
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: over probably right then you're in your four minute offense
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: and you know you're trying to ice the game at
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: that point. That those two penalties basically kept building.
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: Even if you know you're going to take a significant
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: chunk off the clock. The Bills will go down, get
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: one score, use up all their timeouts.
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: And yeah they really got those two penalties kept them
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: in the game. And the one on schooler was bad too.
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: That was literally one was.
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: I said there were a tickie tack. They were penalties?
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: Are they not?
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: Whatever happened to the hip drop thing, because that's a
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: clear hip drop tackle for Marcus Jones. They just didn't
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: call when they threw the flat I was like, oh wow,
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: they called.
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: A hip drop pempty basedop call.
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: Did they ever start?
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: They did for like a week? Okay, it was an
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: emphasis thing, all right. Another weekend of football is upon us,

- 1:32:06Speaker 2: for waiting quick.
- 1:32:07Speaker 7: I just hey, no problem. So I got a point
- 1:32:10Speaker 7: and football question and kind of a cupcake question for
- 1:32:13Speaker 7: you guys. So my point is, just looking forward, I
- 1:32:17Speaker 7: don't see the Saints game as a trap game. I
- 1:32:19Speaker 7: don't think there's going to be any trap games this
- 1:32:21Speaker 7: year because I don't think Brable is going to allow
- 1:32:23Speaker 7: this team to and and their their play demeanor and
- 1:32:26Speaker 7: their attitude towards their opponents to to like sort of
- 1:32:30Speaker 7: become complacent. And the question that I have is, do
- 1:32:35Speaker 7: you think if Biggs keeps this momentum going, do you
- 1:32:38Speaker 7: think it will hopefully open up things for Kyle Williams.
- 1:32:41Speaker 7: I know I've been I've been throwing his name out
- 1:32:43Speaker 7: there a lot. I just want to see what they
- 1:32:44Speaker 7: have in the kid. That's the that's the football question
- 1:32:47Speaker 7: and the cupcake question I got for you guys is
- 1:32:49Speaker 7: what's your favorite Jersey mic sub minus the Club Supreme.
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: I'll take it off there, all right, thanks for the call, Patty.
- 1:32:55Speaker 2: So favorite Jersey Mike sub is the chicken Chipotle, all right,
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: that's my favorite. Obviously I get the turkey like most
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: of the time because I'm you know, not going to
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: eat that, you know, chicken cheeseteak all the time, but
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: that's my favorite one.
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: It's official sandwich pride of the NFL.
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: Now right, yes, I can say that.
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: No, I just I just want to make sure right
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: in trouble, Yeah, the uh.
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: It's a trap game.
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: It is a trap game. It is, and it's a
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: young team. And look, they should be that emotional after
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: a win like that. They should feel good about themselves.
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: It's a good accomplishment, it's a big accomplishment. But there's
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: a level of being a professional of coming back the
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: next week and playing to that same level that some
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: of these guys just have it. Not that they have
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: failed to do it, they just haven't been in this spot.
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: So no, it's absolutely trap game. It's one hundred percent track.
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: I think Vrabel will do his best to eliminate that.
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: I'm sure you know. I said it on the radio
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: this morning. And it's been set on the radio and
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: on TV the last three days. Maybe Vrabel's playing a
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: super cut of it in the locker room right now
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: to let everybody know.
- 1:33:58Speaker 2: But this is a track, yep, a trap game. It's
- 1:34:03Speaker 2: the second of three road games in a row. And
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: I am saying this is somebody that does not play
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: very much notable in the Lazar House, right, and it's
- 1:34:13Speaker 2: three straight road games. It's tough. It's hard. No, I'm
- 1:34:17Speaker 2: saying this on the part. I'm not saying this about me.
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: It's hard. It's hard to go on the road three
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: straight weeks. Not only that, but like we landed here
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: in Providence at four am on Monday morning, after seven
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: it's sneaky, like it's hard to catch up. By today
- 1:34:35Speaker 2: is the first day that I start. I'm feeling like normal.
- 1:34:37Speaker 2: And I didn't play in the freaking game, right, So like,
- 1:34:40Speaker 2: trust me when I tell you it's it's hard. The
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: other thing that I would say, and this is just
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: my personal opinion, it's New Orleans and it's Nashville, Okay,
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: So like, let everybody's gotta be like, this is a
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: two back to back road trips where you're the Patriots
- 1:34:59Speaker 2: are really going to to prove how disciplined of a
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: program they have. Yeah, you know, our guys locked in,
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: Our guys, you know, going out in New Orleans. Are
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: they going out in Nashville? Are they locked in? Are
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: they ready to play? Uh? Dad's gonna be big. Now
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: they might be good enough, you know, just to talk
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: a little bit about the Saints, because we have like
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: thirteen minutes left, they might be good enough to beat
- 1:35:21Speaker 2: the Saints.
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: Even on their like a C or or D effort,
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: it would still be disappointing. It would put a D
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: effort after beating the Bills, but they might be good
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: enough to do that.
- 1:35:32Speaker 2: So with the Saints, their offense I think is one
- 1:35:37Speaker 2: of those offenses that is not impressive on paper and
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: uh frankly not overly impressive on film either, especially their
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: offensive line. And I think Rattler is like an NFL quarterback,
- 1:35:49Speaker 2: but I don't know if he's a starting NFL quarterback.
- 1:35:52Speaker 2: But they have some sneaky good skill talent, Like do
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: they are.
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: They a little dolphinsy and the way they're built schematically no,
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: but personnel wise, the old Dolphins in terms of the speed,
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: speed and Rattler, I think there's maybe maybe not to now,
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: but like younger to because he can run a little bit.
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: You can run a little bit. He can throw the
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: ball down the field.
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: I just think, you know, they have sneaky skill talent.
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: I really really like Rashid Cheed. I think he's gonna
- 1:36:20Speaker 2: be sought after commodity if he hits the open market. Yeah,
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: and just want fast guys. You gotta sign your fast.
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: He's fast.
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: Stand he's fantastic. He's fast. And so he's going to
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: be a free agent next offseason. I don't know if
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: the Saints are gonna let him be a free agent
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: next offseason, but technically he's on an expiring contract. Alvin
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: Kamara not the Alvin Kamara from five years ago, but
- 1:36:46Speaker 2: I can still break tackles. Is still a mismatch in
- 1:36:49Speaker 2: the passing game.
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: You can't forget about him.
- 1:36:51Speaker 2: Alave and Brandon Cooks are NFL receivers, so this group.
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: Jawn Johnson's a solid tight end.
- 1:36:58Speaker 2: If they had a better offensive line and a little
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: bit of a better quarterback, I don't think this offense
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: would be thirty second in the league. Like, no, they're
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: not that bad, but they are contending for the first
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: overall pick. I think they're twenty second in the league
- 1:37:12Speaker 2: on DVOA on offense, so even like it's not terrible,
- 1:37:15Speaker 2: like it's not.
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: The actual number that matters. They're twenty seventh in points.
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's not god awful on offense on that
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: side of the ball, twenty fourth in yards and then defensively.
- 1:37:25Speaker 2: I wanted to talk about this because I was very
- 1:37:27Speaker 2: excited when one more.
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: Thing about the Saint team just looking at it now, Yeah,
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: credit to them. They don't turn the ball over. They've
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: only turned the ball over three times this year.
- 1:37:35Speaker 2: Yeah, no, they don't. They don't score a lot of
- 1:37:38Speaker 2: points though they had five, right, they first five turnovers
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: against the Giants last week and put up twenty six points,
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: and they scored six points off those five turnovers. Like,
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: they just don't score a ton of points. But Shaheed
- 1:37:52Speaker 2: hit an eighty seven yard touchdown last week.
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: Yeah, he's very.
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: Capable of just popping a big play. Alvin Kamara can
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: still run the ball and Spencer rattlers like Sneaky Mobile.
- 1:38:02Speaker 2: They've ran him on some design runs, like some Philly
- 1:38:04Speaker 2: style stuff that Kellen Moore ran last year with the
- 1:38:07Speaker 2: Eagles with Hertz and some of it's worked, so it's
- 1:38:11Speaker 2: not a completely I think that the take is like,
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: don't let the offense sneak up on you. Like it's
- 1:38:17Speaker 2: it's not completely. Now their offensive line blows, and I
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: think the path to a blowout for the Patriots in
- 1:38:28Speaker 2: this game against New Orleans is their defensive line just
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: taking over against the Saints offensive line. The Saints are
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: missing stays A Ruiz. I don't know if he's gonna
- 1:38:36Speaker 2: play in this game, but they're on a backup right guard.
- 1:38:40Speaker 2: They've moved Trevor Penning inside to left guard because he
- 1:38:43Speaker 2: failed outside at tackle. Former first rounder Kelvin Banks is
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: their left tackle. He's a rookie.
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: They their offensive line is like last in the league
- 1:38:52Speaker 2: and everything like, they've had a really tough time blocking.
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: So when they have Milton Williams and Harold Landry and
- 1:38:58Speaker 2: Christian Barmore to this week and hopefully you know, Chase
- 1:39:01Speaker 2: On's back Tonga tonga like that, that's gonna be tough
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: for New Orleans Patriots. Now, the other side of the ball,
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: which I wanted to talk about because this is one
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: of our favorite people that is coordinating the Saints defense,
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: and that's Brandon Staley. Brandon who I think it might
- 1:39:18Speaker 2: be like the first coach that we argued about. Yep,
- 1:39:22Speaker 2: this is like pre Kyle Shanahan arguments. I feel like, well,
- 1:39:25Speaker 2: I mean it's the same idea. So Brandon Staley is coordinating?
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: Uh now, because when do you get hired by the
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: Chargers like twenty one already in San Francis.
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: Yeah, but Shannan, at that point, I don't think it
- 1:39:37Speaker 2: was like you really hate Brandon Staley.
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: I just don't think he's a very good coach. He's
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: very He's a very good head coach. And I say
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: that all time. There's some guys that are good coordinators
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: but not good coaches. I look at what happened with
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: the Chargers and look at what they're doing now without him.
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: I think that the evidence stands on its own. He
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: was not ready for that job, too much of a
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: math heavy approach, among other things. He if it's this
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: and I need to dig more into the Saints defense
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: on my list do today? I remember with Chargers he
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: didn't really care about defending the run. He was bothered
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: by that. Does he still doesn't so not much. We
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: said it last week the Bills team that was not
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: good against the run. The Patriots need to get the
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: run game going. They could not do that. Well, here
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: we go again, a good week to get the run
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: game going. Can they do it? But I will say, you're.
- 1:40:23Speaker 2: Gonna say something nice about Brendon Staley.
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: I'm gonna say something nice about Saints. It's a good front.
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: It's a good front, Devon Godshaw, Brian Berze in the middle,
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: Cameron Jordan can still play their linebackers tomorrow, Davis P. Werner, Chase.
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: It's honestly, and I think Chase, it's honestly kind of
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: crazy that this team is this bad. The roster's not
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: I mean, they're not a playoff team, but this is
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: not like a bottom of the league roster.
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: No, but that was my takeaway.
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: Now and now their secondary is another story.
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: Their secondary is not great and their offensive line.
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: Is right, But that's front is actually especially the line.
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: I really like Brian I think underrated player. Yeah, and
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: I think him and Godshaw compliment each other.
- 1:41:03Speaker 2: Well, so you said some things there about Staley that
- 1:41:06Speaker 2: I think are relevant. The first thing is his whole
- 1:41:10Speaker 2: thing that started to explode in the NFL, him Vic Fangio,
- 1:41:16Speaker 2: all these gurus defensive guys basing their defense out of
- 1:41:20Speaker 2: two high safety shelves. Right, So two high safeties, you're
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: taking a guy out of the box. It doesn't necessarily
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: mean light box if it sometimes means neutral where there's
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: seven guys in the box, but you're not having that
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: extra hat in the box, so you're light in the box.
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: Ye.
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: Now, when you're light in the box and you have
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: Aaron Donald on the defensive line like he did with
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: the Los Angeles Rams, Aaron Donald can take back gaps, right,
- 1:41:44Speaker 2: he can play two gaps and he can make up
- 1:41:47Speaker 2: for the fact that they're a man short in the box.
- 1:41:50Speaker 2: When you have the Chargers defensive line that he had
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: as the head coach there, and now when you have
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: the Saints defensive lines a little bit better but still
- 1:41:58Speaker 2: not you don't have a Hall of Famer like Aaron
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: Donald might be one of the best players at his
- 1:42:03Speaker 2: position in the history of the NFL. So it's harder
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: to play the run out of those boxes. But what
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: they do in the secondary that they do pretty well,
- 1:42:11Speaker 2: which I broke down on bu TV this week. If
- 1:42:13Speaker 2: you guys want to watch it match zones, they play
- 1:42:16Speaker 2: a lot of match coverage in the back end, so
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: they're carrying verticals and then they're passing off the underneath
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: routes as like as zone. You know, Saban and Belichick
- 1:42:25Speaker 2: invented this thing. You hear a lot from the Saban tree.
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: They call it rip Liz, you know, and riplaz is
- 1:42:32Speaker 2: just the way that they make the calls and determined
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: if it's a zone side or if it's a man's side.
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: You also hear a lot of like fangio parlance, which
- 1:42:39Speaker 2: is like palms and things like that. Basically it's match quarters. Okay,
- 1:42:43Speaker 2: that's a fancy way to say it. And all of
- 1:42:47Speaker 2: that does is that if you're a quarterback, you in
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: a receiver too, like you have to understand are they
- 1:42:54Speaker 2: zoning this off or are they manning this right, because
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: that's gonna lead you to some traps, like if you
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: think it's man and then but actually they fall off
- 1:43:03Speaker 2: in its zone, then you're going to be thrown into
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: a team party, right, So you have to be on
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: your p's and q's there. It's a good scheme. Defensively,
- 1:43:11Speaker 2: he's not a good head coach. I've conceded that point
- 1:43:13Speaker 2: to you. But he runs a really good highly sophisticated
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: defensive scheme. They pressure a lot, they play a lot
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: of disguise back end coverage with their match zones. It's
- 1:43:24Speaker 2: a hard defense to prepare for mentally. Yeah, so those
- 1:43:28Speaker 2: are the things that they bring to the table. Offensively,
- 1:43:31Speaker 2: I think they have sneaky skill talent. Defensively, I think
- 1:43:34Speaker 2: that they have a good scheme also really quickly on
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: the defense, Tomorrow Davis is an awesome linebacker. He's a
- 1:43:41Speaker 2: really good player. He can cover his butt off. He's
- 1:43:44Speaker 2: extremely athletic. So, like you said, it's not a team
- 1:43:48Speaker 2: that has no talent. They just don't have a great quarterback.
- 1:43:51Speaker 2: They have a first time head coach, and they have
- 1:43:53Speaker 2: some fatal flaws, like the offensive line.
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: The spots are they're weak. They're really weak. That's the thing.
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: It's not like, Okay, they have a good front and
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: they're secondary's fine, or oh they have good and the
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: spots where they're strong they're not like overly strong either.
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: But it's it's I don't think it's entirely They've also
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: played good teams. I think the start season right yep,
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: Cardinals nine or Seahawks, Bills, and then they beat the Giants,
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: So I don't think one and four is entirely reflective
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: over that roster. I don't think they're a playoff team.
- 1:44:19Speaker 2: But can we do lightning round through the round?
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: Let's go real quick?
- 1:44:22Speaker 2: All right, real quick? If Ryan in New Jersey is
- 1:44:24Speaker 2: still hanging on Ryan, what do you got?
- 1:44:27Speaker 6: Hey?
- 1:44:28Speaker 8: What's going on?
- 1:44:28Speaker 7: Guys?
- 1:44:28Speaker 2: Thanks?
- 1:44:29Speaker 7: Good call, really quick question.
- 1:44:32Speaker 8: First, what are you guys seeing on film that's prevent
- 1:44:34Speaker 8: Kyle Williams from being more productive?
- 1:44:35Speaker 7: And two?
- 1:44:37Speaker 8: Is linebacker a tight end a bigger need heading into
- 1:44:39Speaker 8: the draft?
- 1:44:39Speaker 2: Thanks? Thanks for Ryan. Kyle Williams, He's to play more
- 1:44:42Speaker 2: like he doesn't.
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: There's receivers playing well in front of him.
- 1:44:46Speaker 2: There's flashes, there's flashes of separation on the all twenty two.
- 1:44:49Speaker 2: It's exciting to see that. That's why I wanted to
- 1:44:51Speaker 2: maybe put him on kickoffs, to just give him an
- 1:44:53Speaker 2: opportunity to touch the ball in a different way, a
- 1:44:56Speaker 2: different phase of the game.
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: Linebacker, I think at linebacker, what tight end?
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: I understand the future need at tight end, but I
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: think that Henry and Hooper still have something in the tank.
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: For the short term. They're gonna need a I think
- 1:45:08Speaker 2: this plain is a good player. He had a really
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: good game. They need somebody next.
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: I think this is going to be a fun linebacker draft.
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: I say that because a lot of the guys I
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: really like or juniors. Yeah, so some of them might
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: not come out because when it's a loaded class, guys
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: might stay to be a higher pick next year.
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: But weak side linebacker like a true coverage you know,
- 1:45:28Speaker 2: speed sideline to sideline linebacker to playoffs.
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: Polane Kyle Lewis from pitt who you won't might not
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: need a draft that high.
- 1:45:35Speaker 2: All right, Sean is in Vancouver. What's up, Sean?
- 1:45:39Speaker 6: I noticed by in the fourth quarter. I know he
- 1:45:41Speaker 6: didn't play that much, but did they use him at
- 1:45:44Speaker 6: all in the first half? And the other question I
- 1:45:46Speaker 6: have is Zach Moss a possibility to uh to pick
- 1:45:50Speaker 6: up That's it. I'll take up there.
- 1:45:52Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks Sean. I they did play to Vie a bit,
- 1:45:54Speaker 2: and I thought he was actually pretty good in this game.
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: I thought he played well a limited role, but but
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: he gained something.
- 1:45:59Speaker 2: Yeah, he was played holes in the run game and
- 1:46:01Speaker 2: was a little bit sturdier in there than like a
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: Christian Ellis. He did lose one edge on an outside run,
- 1:46:07Speaker 2: but overall, I kind of saw a vision of how
- 1:46:09Speaker 2: they could use him as like an early down stack
- 1:46:12Speaker 2: linebacker that I'm in on. I thought he was pretty good.
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: On Zach Moss. He had a neck injury last year.
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: He hasn't played since, So I always wonder with guys
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: like that, what's going on?
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: Yeah, Austin is in New Hampshire. What's up? Austin?
- 1:46:25Speaker 7: Hey guys?
- 1:46:26Speaker 8: Any quick question for you? A Are you anticipating them
- 1:46:29Speaker 8: to try to sign Christian Gonzales this year due to
- 1:46:32Speaker 8: the free agency cap and then also just with the
- 1:46:35Speaker 8: way drag Mays balling, do you guys project to see
- 1:46:38Speaker 8: another big move on free agents and a lot of
- 1:46:40Speaker 8: guys interested in coming here?
- 1:46:42Speaker 2: Yeah, Austin, So, Christian Gonzalez is extension eligible next off season,
- 1:46:46Speaker 2: so we can start having this conversation. Yeah, well that's
- 1:46:49Speaker 2: what I meant. Yeah, yeah, So we can start having
- 1:46:51Speaker 2: this conversation in February and March when they get into
- 1:46:55Speaker 2: the off season. He is extension eligible and as the
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: Dallas Cowboys can tell you, doing it early is much
- 1:47:01Speaker 2: better than doing it late.
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: So if they can move on because Witherspoon's too, so
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: you want to sign him before the Seahawks signed. Witherspoon
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: was the other question. Uh yeah, Drake May is gonna
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: be a drawn fregency. Yep, at least for just some extent.
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: I don't think they'll have, you know, everybody banging down
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: their door, but that's somebody you can sell.
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: That was a great lightning round. Good good job by
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: the callers. I appreciate that. Sorry we didn't have more
- 1:47:26Speaker 2: time to talk to you, guys, but this was a
- 1:47:29Speaker 2: huge Ware's Real football is a big breakdown on the
- 1:47:32Speaker 2: on the win on Sunday night. We will be back
- 1:47:35Speaker 2: next week, same time, same place. We'll talk about the
- 1:47:38Speaker 2: New Orleans Saints. We'll preview the trip to Nashville for
- 1:47:42Speaker 2: Mike Rabel back in Nashville to face his old team
- 1:47:46Speaker 2: and the Tennessee Titans and cam Ward who's been pretty good,
- 1:47:49Speaker 2: pretty good cam warden.
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: His interceptions turned into touchdowns.
- 1:47:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm excited about that one. So we'll see you guys.
