- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you build the habits for writing success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Writing is a serious business, but that doesn't mean you always have to be serious.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: A great way to write more and have more fun while you're doing it is to make a game out of it.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: This can work a lot of different ways, and one of my favorite ways is to see how much I can write in a specific amount of time.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: So I may set a timer for 15 or 30 minutes, or sometimes 25 minutes, if I'm using the Pomodoro technique, which I talked about a couple of episodes ago.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: And then I just go to town writing and I put my head down and I focus.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: And sometimes I'll even have a competition with myself to see if I can beat my own word count record for that specific length of time.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Now I know all this may sound a little bit silly and honestly it can be kind of arbitrary sometimes, but you know, it makes total sense because after all, you are your biggest competitor.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: We're not really competing against anybody else.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: We're only competing against our own potential.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: And as writers, we should always be trying to get better at our craft and to improve every aspect of our writing business.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: And this is all part of the bigger picture of not taking yourself too seriously to begin with.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: I think life is hard enough already without all the pressure that we put on ourselves.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: So don't be afraid to try some new things and to make a game out of your writing.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: I think if you try this approach, it'll inject some joy and fun into your writing that may have been missing over the past year or two with all the pandemic stuff going on.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: So anything that we can do to make our writing more fun and more lighthearted and to not take ourselves so doggone seriously, that's probably a good thing.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Well, here's your daily question.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: What is a game you can play that would make writing more fun?
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: I want to take a moment to let you know about our daily writer membership community.
