- 0:00Speaker 1: On what has become a very nice Tuesday afternoon here weatherwise,
- 0:05Speaker 1: and I think it's going to be pretty much okay, might
- 0:07Speaker 1: be a little cooler the rest of week until we
- 0:08Speaker 1: get the Saturday. Actually it's going to be in the
- 0:10Speaker 1: low eighties today, but it's going to get it'll be
- 0:13Speaker 1: around They're saying seventy eight seventy nine something like that
- 0:18Speaker 1: for the Saturday afternoon matchup with Kentucky, so that's good,
- 0:23Speaker 1: that's palatable as well. For the final scheduled home game
- 0:28Speaker 1: of the regular season, I'm going to at this time
- 0:31Speaker 1: of year, I'm going to add that word in scheduled
- 0:35Speaker 1: because there is the possibility, obviously that the Long Runs
- 0:39Speaker 1: could wind up hosting a playoff game, a college football
- 0:42Speaker 1: playoff game that's never happened on the Division one level
- 0:45Speaker 1: where they have those playoff games. But remember, the five
- 0:47Speaker 1: seed will play the twelve, the eight will play the nine,
- 0:52Speaker 1: the six will play the eleven, and the seven will
- 0:55Speaker 1: play the ten, And the winner of that five to
- 0:57Speaker 1: twelve matchup would play the four seed. The winner of
- 1:00Speaker 1: the six versus eleven would play the three seed, the
- 1:03Speaker 1: winner of the seven versus ten would play the two,
- 1:05Speaker 1: and the winner of the eight verses, nine would play
- 1:07Speaker 1: the top seat. Those top four seeds will all receive buys.
- 1:10Speaker 1: As we know, if Texas runs the table, if they
- 1:13Speaker 1: win these last two games of the regular season against
- 1:15Speaker 1: Kentucky this Saturday and then a week from Saturday against
- 1:18Speaker 1: Texas A and M, they would be in the College.
- 1:21Speaker 1: They would be in the SEC Championship game and at
- 1:25Speaker 1: eleven and one at that point, and they would be
- 1:28Speaker 1: inside the top five for sure, probably inside the top four,
- 1:32Speaker 1: and there's a good chance inside the top three that
- 1:36Speaker 1: even a loss in the SEC Championship game I don't
- 1:38Speaker 1: think would knock Texas out of the playoff. But that's
- 1:42Speaker 1: if they've reached the SEC Championship game. So that runs
- 1:45Speaker 1: contrary to what you know lank Kiffin was talking about saying, well,
- 1:51Speaker 1: there's a lot of coaches in the SEC. They don't
- 1:53Speaker 1: want to play in that championship. Let me tell you something.
- 1:56Speaker 1: If you were offered that opportunity up, a chance to
- 1:58Speaker 1: play for the conference time in there, I think most
- 2:01Speaker 1: of the coaches would take it. I think what he's
- 2:04Speaker 1: talking about is a very small group the two loss
- 2:08Speaker 1: and or three loss teams that might find a way
- 2:10Speaker 1: to back their way in or wriggle their way into
- 2:12Speaker 1: the conference championship game, whereas they might have a better
- 2:16Speaker 1: shot if they were outside the playoff field. I disagree
- 2:20Speaker 1: with that unless you're talking about maybe Alabama or Georgia
- 2:25Speaker 1: Ole Miss. Yeah, you know, but I don't think the
- 2:30Speaker 1: Ole Miss. If they don't get in to the conference championship,
- 2:33Speaker 1: I'd say the odds are against them getting into the
- 2:36Speaker 1: playoff anyway. So we'll see. As it relates to Texas
- 2:40Speaker 1: A and M. In Texas, the winner of the game
- 2:42Speaker 1: next week takes that gigantic step forward, especially if both
- 2:46Speaker 1: handle their business this week the Long Horns against Kentucky
- 2:49Speaker 1: and of course Texas A and M at Auburn, and
- 2:53Speaker 1: if they both win there, they both are at one
- 2:55Speaker 1: loss each in conference play at six and one in
- 2:58Speaker 1: the conference. Knowing that the win of the game in
- 3:01Speaker 1: College Station is bound for Atlanta and a spot in
- 3:04Speaker 1: the SEC championship game. So we'll see how all of
- 3:07Speaker 1: that shakes out, you know. But the college football playoff rankings,
- 3:13Speaker 1: the updated ones, will come out tonight, and apparently the
- 3:17Speaker 1: most compelling part about it all is not at the
- 3:21Speaker 1: very top, where Oregon will be number one in Ohio
- 3:24Speaker 1: State almost certainly will be number two in Texas would
- 3:26Speaker 1: be number three. Now, remember what that means is if
- 3:30Speaker 1: it finishes that way, Ohio State would have to be
- 3:33Speaker 1: slotted into the five because only one conference representative would
- 3:38Speaker 1: get the buy and right now Oregon is ranked ahead
- 3:40Speaker 1: of them, so Oregon would draw the one sea. Then
- 3:43Speaker 1: it would fall to the next seed to draw the
- 3:44Speaker 1: two seat. Well, that would be Texas, even though they'd
- 3:47Speaker 1: be ranked third, they'd go into the two slot because
- 3:50Speaker 1: they'd be a conference champion if it were to end today,
- 3:55Speaker 1: and we know there's a lot still out there to
- 3:57Speaker 1: be played for, so don't jump to any conclusions on that,
- 3:59Speaker 1: but that's where it would be today. The other really
- 4:02Speaker 1: compelling thing is what's going to happen with that fourth
- 4:05Speaker 1: by that fourth conference champion. It was largely assumed going
- 4:11Speaker 1: into the season, and it was going to be those
- 4:13Speaker 1: four Power four with the PAC twelve, you know, existing
- 4:16Speaker 1: pretty much an idea only right now that it would
- 4:20Speaker 1: be Big ten, SEC ACC Big twelve. Now there's some
- 4:26Speaker 1: doubt with BYU having lost. I think it was Heather
- 4:29Speaker 1: Dentish of ESPN had she had them out of the
- 4:35Speaker 1: top twelve, even had them like I think thirteenth or
- 4:38Speaker 1: whatever it was. But in any event, that would then
- 4:43Speaker 1: slot Boise into the fourth slot and give them a
- 4:47Speaker 1: real opportunity to draw a buy and would mean the
- 4:50Speaker 1: Big twelve conference champion wouldn't get a buy and would
- 4:53Speaker 1: have to play in that five to twelve matchup, because
- 4:56Speaker 1: remember the fifth conferen champion is going to be slotted
- 5:02Speaker 1: somewhere in that top twelve depending on where the rank
- 5:05Speaker 1: no lower than twelve, but no promises on anything above that,
- 5:10Speaker 1: just that they will be in the playoffs. So that's
- 5:11Speaker 1: what's going to be interesting to follow as well. And
- 5:14Speaker 1: again those rankings will be announced tonight. All right, Up next,
- 5:18Speaker 1: we're gonna hear from long orange Head basketball coach Rodney Terry,
- 5:21Speaker 1: Texas getting ready to depart this afternoon for New York.
- 5:24Speaker 1: CAM and I will be on the flight with him,
- 5:25Speaker 1: headed up to New York where they will play at
- 5:28Speaker 1: the Barclay Center in Brooklyn Thursday evening at six o'clock.
- 5:32Speaker 1: They'll be taking on Syracuse and then they'll play either
- 5:35Speaker 1: Texas Tech or Saint Jose on Friday night. We'll hear
- 5:37Speaker 1: from Rodney Terry coming up on that here on Sports
- 5:40Speaker 1: Radio AM thirteen under the zone
