Thanks Lucas. Lucas: Awesome! I love hearing that. Now, today we're going to a place you might need when traveling or living in the Netherlands. Luna: Oh? Where? Lucas: The bank. We'll learn some basic phrases for common banking tasks. Luna: Good idea. I always get nervous dealing with money abroad. Lucas: No worries. First phrase: Ik wil geld opnemen. It means 'I want to withdraw money.' Luna: Ik wil geld opnemen. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's say you need to deposit money. Ik wil geld storten. Luna: Ik wil geld storten. 'I want to deposit money.' That one's handy if you're getting paid in cash. Lucas: Right. Now, if you're traveling and need to exchange currency, you might ask: Wat is de wisselkoers? — 'What is the exchange rate?' Luna: Wat is de wisselkoers? That's a mouthful, but I'll practice. Lucas: You'll get it. Next: Kunt u dat wisselen? — 'Can you exchange this?' Luna: Kunt u dat wisselen? Like handing over some foreign currency? Lucas: Exactly. And finally, if you want to open an account: Ik wil graag een rekening openen. Luna: Ik wil graag een rekening openen. 'I would like to open an account.' That's useful if you're moving. Lucas: Let's do a quick roleplay. I'll be the bank clerk, you'll be the customer. Luna: Okay. Lucas: Goedemorgen, kan ik u helpen? Luna: Yes, uhm... Ik wil geld opnemen. Lucas: Hoeveel wilt u opnemen? Luna: Hmm, maybe practice that later. Let's stick to our phrases. So, if I want to deposit instead? Lucas: You just say: Ik wil geld storten. And then they'll ask how much. Luna: Ik wil geld storten. Got it. Lucas: And for exchange: Wat is de wisselkoers? or Kunt u dat wisselen? Luna: What if I need both? Withdraw and exchange? Lucas: You could say: Ik wil geld opnemen en ook wisselen. But let's not overload. Keep it simple. Luna: Okay. I think I need to practice at home.
