Melissa in the Morning: Blue Lights on Campus
UConn is phasing out most of its blue emergency phones, citing low usage and rising costs. The university says the phones received just 166 calls over the past five years, with only two requiring a public safety response. Maintaining the system costs at least 70-thousand dollars annually. But a lot of UConn parents are unhappy with the move. We got perspective on this from Gary MacNamara, who was formally in charge of public safety at Sacred Heart University and debated getting rid of the blue lights a couple years ago.
