- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: Hey everybody Brian Smith here with the I'm team series and your daily influence today our topic is creating a high trust work environment and why would we want to do that and how do we do that and first of all is the why and.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's pretty obvious why we want to have a high trust work environment.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: We want to be able to rely on our peers and our teammates to do whatever it is in their area of influence and their responsibility is and get it done right.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: And right means getting it done as air free as possible and on time so that it supports
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever mission they have individually and wholly of what our mission is as an organization and to get a team that works together like that where we have a high trust environment.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: The first thing that we need is transparency and open communication.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: We need to be able to communicate with each other so that we have an environment where
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: open transparent communication is normal.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's not exceptional.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: Leaders can set that tone by being honest about the company's challenges, successes, failures.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: In this transparency itself builds trust across all levels of the organization.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's important that everybody in the organization understands where the organization is
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: That doesn't mean that you put out daily communications that share with everybody, everything that's going on all the time.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: It means that you build into your organization ways for the entire team to understand where the company is.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: how I got there and where it's going.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: By encouraging the team to voice their ideas, concerns without fear and repercussions, can also build on that.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: When we do that, we create opportunities for accountability.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: And when people trust that, what they say will be listened to right or wrong, believed or not, different opinions.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: when they feel that way, they're also more easily accountable for when they do make mistakes.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: When people feel like they can be heard when they do make a mistake, they're more apt to look at that mistake more constructively, work through that mistake, and come out the other end of that process improved.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: Really, that's what accountability is about, is a world of improvement, a sense of improvement, a idea of improvement that accountability is designed to make us better, not to punish, not to discipline, it's part of a continuous improvement process that's both personal and collective for the entire organization, and within it, it builds trust.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: And as we work through moving towards this and we see our teams consistently following through what their commitments taking responsibilities for their actions, our culture of reliability and trust grows.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: And the foundation of all this is everybody knows at least with us here at the daily influence in the I&T series, the foundation is smart management.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: specific measurable, attainable, realistic, relative and timely communication, goals, tactics, strategies.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: It provides us the framework to explain, setting clear measurable goals, turning them into clear, definitive tactics, supported by people who communicate transparently with each other in a smart way that reinforces trust and a sense
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: And when leadership does this, with empathy and support, that we have a high trust work environment.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: And when we have this high trust work environment, things just get done.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: new ideas come out, people aren't afraid to express themselves.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: Innovation happens, and leaders who understand this and support this, see organizations that not only continuously improve within their specific areas of influence, but as they grow and add on new tasks, new goals, learn new lessons, they're constantly collaborating together to improve, not just
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: But reinforce that foundation and make it even more solid and better for the future.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: Then we have a collaborative, productive work environment that people can trust and rely on to be their day in and day out.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_01]: I hope you found today's discussion on creating a high trust, work environment informative for you.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: I hope you have a good day, look forward to talking to you again.
