- 0:00The following program is produced by the tech Talk Radio Network. Everybody out there
- 0:04in radio land, This is James Young from the rock band Stick. If
- 0:07you are technically challenged, if you got trouble with that computer yours, because
- 0:10Lord knows I do you need to listen to tech Talk Radio. Welcome to
- 0:17another episode of tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Shad Toward,
- 0:21I'm Matt Jones, and I'm justin. Oh my god, we're all together,
- 0:25all four of us, and none of us got taken away by the
- 0:28eclipse. We're all here. We all survived. Man, I was hoping
- 0:32to get taken away. This timeline sucks. Last week's show was good because
- 0:38we were talking about what we were expecting, but now we know what has
- 0:41happened and the amazing footage that Sean got from the event. Sean, I'm
- 0:47sure you could fill us in on this, but I've had a lot of
- 0:49people that have asked me how did he get these shots? Yeah, so
- 0:53I'll walk you through the whole trip. Saturday, my friend Stephen Dustin came
- 0:57down and we went and got by camper as we were camping at the Indianapois
- 1:00Motor Speedway for the eclipse, and we brought it back to my house.
- 1:03We're getting it ready where we hook up the hose to the house to fill
- 1:07up the water and you know, getting everything ready and everything's packed up.
- 1:11It took us like two and a half hours, almost three hours to get
- 1:15ready, an we're gonna crash out for the night and get up early and
- 1:18go. So we're like, all right, let's go play games downstairs.
- 1:22We walked down to the basement. Wow, it smells really damp in the
- 1:25basement. Oh no, take take one step into the basement. Squish,
- 1:29squish. Oh uh Oh what happened is the first time I used the outdoor
- 1:38spagott since winter time. Oh so it was like a like a crack,
- 1:42right I had I went. I went into the shop, my shop,
- 1:45which is just if you're watching the videos right here. Yeah, and there
- 1:48was about probably i don't know, half an inch of water across the whole
- 1:51floor of the shop. We literally spent the next two hours three hours moving
- 1:56and you can see if you look behind me right, my basement is an
- 1:57absolute disaster. Right now, I have stuff everywhere. It's wait. But
- 2:00you didn't just text Caitlin and tell her, hey, there's a flood.
- 2:04I'll see you later. We eight o'clock Sunday morning, right, We went
- 2:15to home depot and runted an industrial dehumidifier. It does like twenty four gallons
- 2:19a day of water. Wow, it'll pull twenty four gallons of water out
- 2:22of the earth. Gale's parents were here to hang out with her while we
- 2:24went to the eclipse, so he sucked up about eight gallons of water with
- 2:28the shop factor in the day. You put her dad to work. That's
- 2:30awesome. He that's what he likes to do. But so we finally got
- 2:36out of here about noon on Sunday. We wanted to leave by like nine
- 2:39am. So we got out of here at noon, drove down to Indianapolis,
- 2:43got there about four o'clock, set up camp, cooked some burgers,
- 2:46cooked some brats. I don't think I sent you guys the picture, but
- 2:50it was raining really hard when we got there. Oh yeah, I sell
- 2:53the rainbow stuff. And then the sun came out and there was a huge
- 2:57double rainbow over the state, over the over the speedway, which was awesome.
- 3:00Rainbow. What is it to lo rainbow? And then you know,
- 3:07we played a couple of games in the camper crash off the night. We
- 3:09got up around nine and went into the speedway, saw some of the stuff.
- 3:15They had some NASA events going on, so they charge you for getting
- 3:19in, so they actually let you get in on the field. Right,
- 3:22Yeah, we went, we went into the infield and like walked around,
- 3:25went up saw the grand stands, and it was twenty bucks for general admission
- 3:29to get in and walk around and see because they had like NASA symposiums,
- 3:31They had astronauts, indy car drivers, They had all sorts of stuff,
- 3:36signings. You know. Yeah, if if Max was six or seven years
- 3:39old, he would have been losing his mind, he would have been wanted
- 3:43to go see all the space stuff. And I hope he wants to see
- 3:45all the space stuff. But there were a lot of younger kids there that
- 3:49were doing you know, they had a bunch of stem stuff and also so
- 3:52there was a lot. There was a lot to do if you just wanted
- 3:54to come in and watch the eclipse, if you just wanted to come in
- 3:59and she clips to your glasses. Right. They also had areas in the
- 4:01infield where you could have brought your stuff in, set up your tripods and
- 4:06all that stuff in the infield and done that, we set we had a
- 4:10space by our camper that we set up. So about twelve thirty one o'clock
- 4:15we ate lunch inside the stadium, inside the speedway, went back up to
- 4:19the camper, got set up and kind of just sat weighted and just kind
- 4:25of prepped. So now we're gonna we're gonna get photos of all of this
- 4:29that we're talking about, including your camera set up, up on our blog
- 4:32so that people can actually go there and take a look not only at the
- 4:35equipment but also some of the really dynamic shots that you were able to get,
- 4:41which they are pretty great. You've got some really good stuff. Yeah.
- 4:45So I'm I'm mostly happy with what I got what you saw in terms
- 4:49of like the pictures, I didn't get a whole lot of pictures. I'm
- 4:53mostly focused on getting video with So I shot with three cameras, and so
- 4:59I'm a big night guy. Right, and the cheapest and oldest camera got
- 5:05the best content. Wow. Right. I shot with a Nikon cool pix
- 5:12P nine hundred. Right. If you look that up, you're gonna be
- 5:15like, what the hell is that? Right, You're gonna look at that
- 5:16camera, gonna be weird looking camera. Yeah, it's not. It's the
- 5:19weird looking camera. I shot with a Nikon D seven thousand, which is
- 5:24a crop sensor camera. I think they stopped making him in like twenty thirteen.
- 5:28And then I also shot with my Nikon D eight to fifty, which
- 5:30is a full frame, so I used two lenses on those cameras. I
- 5:33shot with a twenty four to one oh eight, which I obviously used at
- 5:36full zoom, and then I put a full frame lens on my D seven
- 5:40thousand, which actually like increases it by a baggage of half, so it
- 5:45was a twenty four to one twenty, so it became a thirty six to
- 5:47eight. So I shot at one eighty bio the Nikon cool Pix P nine
- 5:51hundred. I bought this in twenty seventeen. For the clips that happened in
- 5:58twenty seventeen, I bought it you used. I bought it on eBay because
- 6:01it had a zoom issue, got it on eBay for super cheap, did
- 6:05a for more update and it fixed the prop so I bought it for sup
- 6:08so I actually had a full ninety nine percent solar filter for this, so
- 6:13I was able to get those types of shots that you guys saw with the
- 6:16video and the pictures that I sent earlier. But so the two nightc the
- 6:20two bigger nikons, I set up and just ran time lapses like they were
- 6:25taking a picture every ten seconds. I had to go move them every three
- 6:29or four minutes and recent because the sun's moving oh moment right if you if
- 6:33you set it up and frame, after about six or seven minutes, you
- 6:36have to go readjust so it stays in frame. I don't, I don't,
- 6:40I don't, I don't. I don't have an astral tracking tripod one
- 6:43of those tracking they actually make tripods for this. Oh yeah, oh yeah.
- 6:46So if you look at the picture that I sent you of like the
- 6:48my my friend Steve's set up, his pictures are ten times better than mine.
- 6:54Wow. My buddy Steve was running six inch Newtonian telescope with a E
- 7:00type cameraount. So he's got he's got a seventy D cannon seventy D full
- 7:04frame that he was running on that, and then he's got a eight hundred
- 7:09millimeter prime, so an eight hundred millimeter it's the only focal link that does
- 7:13eights. And then he put a double on that. So he had sixteen
- 7:15hundred milimeters prime for his cannon R five, which is their Candis flagship mirrorlest
- 7:20Gieslar. So he shot a ton of really crisp like the you can see
- 7:27the flares and the diamond ring and the these orange It looked like just orange
- 7:32spots around the sun. And when you look zoomed in on him, you
- 7:35can actually see the curls of the plasma and stuff off him. It was
- 7:40incredible. Were those called solar prominences. That's the thing. That's the word
- 7:45I could number prominence. That's the word I was looking for. The whole
- 7:47experience was just surreal. What I loved about it, Sean when the diamond
- 7:53takes it, because you hear everybody just begin to just roar with applause because
- 7:58it's amazing. We like, we were like seventy hundred yards away from the
- 8:01speedway, right, so there were I think about eighty thousand people in the
- 8:07stadium watching the eclipse across you know, various parts of the stadium. Can
- 8:11you explain what I don't understand? The diamond? What does that? Yeah?
- 8:15What does that mean? So take it take a ring like the sun
- 8:18right and imagine a spot of light. As the Moon leaves the path of
- 8:22the Sun, you get a bright spot of light. Oh yeah, it
- 8:26looks like a diamond ring. That's the term that you used to watch the
- 8:30diamond ring. Right, Okay, so there's you're supposed to be able to
- 8:31get one when it transits and when it like as it's leaving and coming off
- 8:37the Sun or whatever going across the Sun. And then you used to be
- 8:39able to see that. Twe you got one when it was coming off.
- 8:41And it was funny because all of a sudden you hear you yelling time to
- 8:46change a filter, Time to change a filter. So I was gonna mention
- 8:48this. So my friend Steve had an app for his phone that somebody had
- 8:52made that just said solar eclipse timer. That was a countdown, right,
- 9:00and it had different cues, like five minutes until start of the solar eclipse,
- 9:05five minutes before full totality. Right at full totality, remove solar filter.
- 9:11It would tell you. It was like say, it would tell you
- 9:11these things, like for your solar filters, because it was prompting you,
- 9:16like once it went to full totality, you couldn't see a thing with your
- 9:18solar filter. On right because the amount of light went. They called it
- 9:22the three hundred and sixty degree sunrise because if you looked around you all you
- 9:26saw was it looked like sunrise at three hundred and sixty degrees when you were
- 9:30in full totality. If you looked around, was everything dark? I mean,
- 9:33yeah, I did a time lapse of us. I put it on
- 9:37the roof of my camper and I shot down at us and it just goes
- 9:39from light to dark. Can't we post that on our blog as well?
- 9:43Yeah? Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna whatever I send you you can put
- 9:46on the blog. My other friend, Dustin, actually put his drone up
- 9:50and recorded about eighteen minutes of video of the same thing, and we're pretty
- 9:54sure you can see the shadow come across the ground, totality comes across.
- 10:01We're really excited to see that. I don't know if he was high enough
- 10:03to see it really great right, but you'll definitely be able to see it
- 10:07transition. There was a family that was behind us that their kids had paidhole
- 10:11cameras and stuff, and we're looking at through that and they kept coming over
- 10:15to see the because I had the live view on on my camera and they
- 10:18kept coming over, and when the sun was about halfway over, the kid
- 10:22comes running over and goes, it looks like pac Man because it was an
- 10:26urge and you could see part of the sun. I was like, yeah,
- 10:28I guess it looks like pac Man. My cousin, Maria lives in
- 10:33California. She took some photos and I said, you took that off the
- 10:35TV, didn't you? And she's no, I really took him with her
- 10:39and she said, I love my Samsung. She's got an S twenty I
- 10:43think it's the S twenty four. But what she did is she actually got
- 10:48the glasses, the solar glasses and put them over the lens and was able
- 10:54to get photos. And I guess people were doing that and they were coming
- 10:56out great. They really looked good. That in twenty seventeen with my Google
- 11:03pixel is, it actually has a dedicated astronomy mode. If you get the
- 11:07pro models, it's got like I think it's like a hundred x zoom on
- 11:11it. Right. So I did the same thing where I was like,
- 11:13honey, I'm gonna need to borrow your glasses for a second, and she's
- 11:16like, but I'm watching the eclipse. I'm I'm memorializing it. Just let
- 11:20me see your glasses for a second. So I got mine on and you're
- 11:24like when you're doing it, you're like, your glasses on, look up,
- 11:28glasses off because I can't see stuff on my phone. So you're like
- 11:31trying to whittle through everything. And then you're like and photo. God,
- 11:35I hope that comes out. So Sean, I like your style a lot
- 11:39better. Yeah, sitting there fussing with a phone in two pairs of glasses
- 11:43like man, and I hope this turns out. Well. It's funny because
- 11:46they said that the internet pete, the time people were spending on the Internet,
- 11:52was down during the the that entire morning. So this is what it
- 11:56takes. Yeah, exactly. They got people outside to try and experience that.
- 12:01I couldn't find glasses anywhere. I was told that glasses that were made
- 12:07for Arizona were actually being shipped to Texas because everybody wanted to experience it there.
- 12:13We got them at the local library. I walked through the local library
- 12:16and they were like, yeah, here's three pairs, ma'am done. Yeah,
- 12:20no, I went look your local library. Yeah. Always a good
- 12:22shout out, you know. And that's the thing is I went ahead and
- 12:26built. I took a cereal box. I watched NASA's Goddard video and I
- 12:31did a segment for Fox News thirteen and I made, you know, the
- 12:35box, the aluminum foil on it, put the little hole in it,
- 12:39and I looked at it and I'm like, I'm not impressed. It was
- 12:41like, yeah, I could see it looked like a little round dot with
- 12:45a little peace taken out of it. It was like, that's not as
- 12:48impressive as what I saw coming out of Sean's camera. That's that was pretty
- 12:52impressive. It was really cool. Yeah, I'm very glad you got a
- 12:56chance to do that, Sean. I want to do like a director's cut
- 13:00of the whole, of the whole, because it had to break it up
- 13:01in chunks because the camera can early record for thirty minutes at a time,
- 13:05but track trying to track the sun, like trying to get it locked in
- 13:11where I want it in the frame and then waiting and then having to move
- 13:16it because I'm pi like you can you can watch my heart rate go like
- 13:20my watch, I tracked it right and I see it went up to like
- 13:24one eighteen for a period of time and like back down the backup and the
- 13:28back down of the backup, because like I was trying to get different stages
- 13:31right, so I would be set prepped for this one shot of it crossing
- 13:35the sun at the first point, and then you have to wait twenty five
- 13:39minutes for it to be half totality, and then you had to wait because
- 13:43the whole process took like two and a half hours, right right from and
- 13:46tip to tip, So people trying to get those key moments cause key moments
- 13:52was very stressful, and full totality only lasted four and a half minutes,
- 13:56right, Oh my god, it feels like such a long time. And
- 13:58then it was over. It was like, oh, oh, I guess
- 14:01we missed. Hopefully we got something good. Yeah, so amazing again.
- 14:05We'll put all of these photos the video up on the blog of the diamond.
- 14:09And hearing the people cheering, I know that I was watching YouTube and
- 14:15YouTube the NASA channel had the festivities. They had discussions about this, the
- 14:20importance of it, the safety features about it. But also you know,
- 14:26starting in mazt Lan where I guess you know, they had crews down there,
- 14:30and then all the way up until you know, it passed through Indy.
- 14:33They were there in Indianapolis. Did you see a lot of news crews
- 14:37that were out there? So there was a lot and I'm trying to find
- 14:41it, but I'm fairly confident there is some National morning broadcasts in the US.
- 14:48That was about one hundred yards from where we were camping in one of
- 14:52the other open camp spots. And when I walked out of my camper in
- 14:54the morning, they were set up and I could read the teleprompter right.
- 15:00Oh, I know that they were shooting right at my camper. So I'm
- 15:03pretty sure my camp is probably how to focus in the background, but it's
- 15:05I'm pretty sure I'm in the background of some national Did you did you have
- 15:09to like reserve that spot, like nine months in advance or did you just
- 15:13show up? I was looking at like we were looking at places to go
- 15:18right, and He's like, all right, let's take the camper down.
- 15:20You know, this was probably six months ago, Like we were trying to
- 15:24come up with a plan, like, hey, you know, it's gonna
- 15:26be crazy, it's gonna be busy. It's indies and ful totality. Like,
- 15:31so I was himminging huhing and what we were gonna do. We were
- 15:35just gonna drive down and pull into some farmer field or pull into their house
- 15:39and say, hey, can we post up here for a couple hours.
- 15:43But then I saw a friend of mine went to something down in Indianapolis and
- 15:48said, hey, they're doing some of the Indie Speedway. They're offering eating
- 15:50camp there. So two hundred and fifty bucks for camping. And we could
- 15:56have gone down Saturday and stayed Saturday night, Sunday night, and Monday night
- 16:02if we had wanted to, but we only stayed just Sunday, just Sunday
- 16:04night into Monday. So right, uh, Matt, where you were You're
- 16:08in Denver as well, did you get a chance to experience anything along this
- 16:12line? I mean we had, we had like a sixty five percent totality,
- 16:18So ours just went from like the sun to a fat pack man to
- 16:23like an anime chiv smile to a skinny pac man and then back the other
- 16:30way. But right, I looked it up and twenty years from accurate,
- 16:33which, oh God, sounds like such a long time. Twenty years yep,
- 16:37twenty years from now. The next uh solar eclips that will have totality
- 16:42that cuts through the US will go directly through Colorado. Oh right directly over
- 16:48Denver, actually directly over Denver. So all I could do is just walk
- 16:52outside and go ooh. So when the in the when the twenty seventeen eclips
- 16:56came through, there were a couple of photographers that I found they got some
- 16:59amazing stuff in like the Washington area, some crazy I can only imagine what
- 17:03they're gonna be able to get through the Colorado like. Well, I was,
- 17:06and I mean we watched the twenty seventeen eclipse, you know, and
- 17:10Denver. I mean I was. I was downtown at Fox thirty one,
- 17:14my old job, and we were on the roof watching with all the other
- 17:18staff there, and that was amazing. I mean we even had a little
- 17:21baby Eric there with us, you know, because he was not even a
- 17:22year old at that point. Was it so totality in twenty seventeen for you
- 17:26guys, I'm pretty it was either fulltality or like ninety percent totality. It
- 17:33was. It was really close, but it was. Yeah, it was
- 17:36amazing. But I've only seen gosh, I think I don't know if I've
- 17:40ever seen a complete full totality before. I mean, I want to say
- 17:44the twenty seventeen one was because it got really dark, but it might have
- 17:48only been like a ninety percent right we were we were up in My wife
- 17:52and I are still back in the East Coast. In twenty seventeen, we
- 17:55went up to Shenandoah National Park. We ended up camping up there that weekend
- 18:00and it I know, we talked about it last week, but it was
- 18:04still crazy because it hit that certain point where just enough of the sun was
- 18:08covered and to be in a national part, in the part of wilderness,
- 18:14I mean literally when we drove up, We're like, why are all these
- 18:17people pulled over? And we rolled down our window and looked out and there's
- 18:19just a whole troop of bears, like two hundred yards out, and I'm
- 18:23like, okay, well that's cool, but we're leaving. I don't want
- 18:26to be that close to bears. It got to just that right point of
- 18:30dark and it just goes ed silent. Oh that's so. It is weird.
- 18:37It happened here too, where I walked outside and was like, why
- 18:38is it so quiet? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, so all the animals
- 18:41are freaking out about Yeah, about fifteen minutes before before the before the eclipse
- 18:47started, we heard. You could hear it in the in the footage I
- 18:49was shooting as it was starting. You heard birds sharpaying and all stuff.
- 18:52And there's just a a significantly noticeable just nothing. The wind stopped. It
- 19:02dropped fourteen degrees in Indianapolis, dead silent. This is why the ancient people
- 19:07were freaking out when this happened. Oh yeah, oh yeah, could you
- 19:11Yeah, without any knowledge of this happening, you would think the world is
- 19:14ending. Okay, So let me ask why were people so goofy with all
- 19:18of the predictions that, oh, we're all going to be sucked up into
- 19:21outer space social media, that's why. What But we had social media in
- 19:25the last in twenty seventeen, it seems the same. It was the same
- 19:29thing. If was it back then, I don't remember being a wacky yeah.
- 19:33So okay, So the big part of it was right, So the
- 19:36big conspiracy. If you want to get into the whole like mega conspiracies,
- 19:40please don't because this is this is the last. It's for twenty years,
- 19:44right until twenty forty four. The last. The last two eclipses that cross
- 19:49the US form an ex that met in almost the middle of the United States.
- 19:55Harbon Dad yeah, right. So people Carbondale, Illinois was like the
- 20:00set of Spot for all the crazies. They were like, this is this,
- 20:03this is gonna be the end of the world. There's a funny story
- 20:07about a lady was giving away money saying like, I just want to make
- 20:12sure that I'm a God's good graces. When I gave away all my money
- 20:15and she tipped like three hundred dollars at at a restaurant, I was just,
- 20:19Oh, she came, she came back today. I saw this on
- 20:23Reddit. What's her money back? You guys charged my credit card for three
- 20:27hundred dollars. I didn't authorize that charge. I want my money back.
- 20:33And it gets better because it wasn't even just three hundred dollars. She came
- 20:37in and tipped one server three hundred dollars, then came back in later and
- 20:41tipped another server seven hundred and seventy seven dollars. And the best part the
- 20:47guy who was like, I don't know why she wants her money back because
- 20:51we hand them the credit card machine and they type all this stuff in themselves.
- 20:56So she was like it was proudulant and they're like, we don't have
- 20:59a hand in it. Oh man, you did all this yourself. And
- 21:03by the way, hay rules already ran since then, so your money gone.
- 21:07What are you? So here's one thing I heard somebody told me,
- 21:11and tell me, does this make any sense? She said that she had
- 21:14a migraine because of the eclipse and it was it was affecting her. Uh
- 21:21mattah, ma's crazy. I'm not there is. There is not a scientific
- 21:26correlation that they have found, but there is a documented phenomenon during total and
- 21:33solar eclipses that people randomly get headaches. And I was right after we hit
- 21:40maximum totality here in Denver. I was like, all right, that's cool,
- 21:42but it's still a workday and I got to go do stuff. And
- 21:45I walked in and sat down at my computer and it just felt like somebody
- 21:48had hit me right between the eyes with a hammer. Like all of a
- 21:52sudden, I was just like, oh, okay, well you know where
- 21:56anyone's like, you didn't have enough caffeine. Trust me, I had had
- 21:59enough caffeine. I'd had breakfast, I drank water, I do all the
- 22:03That's why you have that. I don't know, man, I don't know.
- 22:07But well, something Sean said made me think about it. When you
- 22:08said it dropped fourteen degrees, that sudden temperature drops could do some with that.
- 22:17Interesting Also, if you I saw on Reddit that searches for why do
- 22:22my eyes hurt? Went up on Google like one thousand percent right after the
- 22:27solar cliffs. Now, granted, I'm sure a lot of those spirits at
- 22:30the sun yea, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, people are probably
- 22:33being stupid understand the sun. But I guess if you're talking about that,
- 22:37there may be something to say about that, Like if your eyes hurt,
- 22:40maybe it's not your eyes, maybe you are having a headache or a migraine
- 22:42or something like that, and so maybe there's a little bit of a correlation
- 22:47to that. But without actually looking at the Sun. One of the NASA
- 22:52exposes they were doing, they were talking about the pressure changes during solar eclipses,
- 22:56and they actually send up rockets to blow them up. Yeah, that
- 23:00have sensors in them called sounding rockets, to test the pressure changes during and
- 23:03eclipse. Yeah, there is. I mean, what causes a lot of
- 23:07seasonal allergies or seasonal like headaches. Pressure change between weather phenomenons. So that
- 23:15has to be the best day to work at NASA Red. What are you
- 23:18doing today? I'm gonna send up a rocket and blow it up. You're
- 23:22one, Yeah, man, Today's a good day. All right. Listen,
- 23:26we had to take a quick break. We come back. I want
- 23:29to ask Justin about something that is very near and dear to his heart.
- 23:33Will we come back with tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm showing
- 23:36to Weird. I'm Matt Jones, and I'm Justin. Let me find us
- 23:38on the web at tech talk radio dot com. We'll be right back now
- 23:44back to tech talk Radio. At the beginning of the show, Sean was
- 23:48kind of talking about like this water leak that unfortunately happened to him, and
- 23:52when he was talking about it, reminded me of something that actually happened to
- 23:55us a few years ago, almost the same situation. When we built our
- 24:00house. You know, we trusted the builders to do the right thing,
- 24:04and they installed obviously the the outside spigot that's on our side yard that you
- 24:11know, we used just water the lawn or whatever. And during the fall
- 24:17season, we we you know, we shut off the water, we disconnected
- 24:21the hose as we're supposed to do, and then springtime comes around and I
- 24:26go to hook up the back, I hook up the hose, I turn
- 24:29on the water, and I'm like, why am I not getting any water
- 24:32pressure? Like it's just it's kind of dribbling out, like that should be
- 24:36filling up the hose right now. And so I run downstairs into our our
- 24:40spare bedroom downstairs, and it is just raining, like raining from the sea.
- 24:45Oh no, And I was like, uh oh. And thankfully the
- 24:49master shut off valve for the house was just like fifteen feet away from me.
- 24:55It's like, actually, it's right behind where I'm pointing in the camera,
- 24:57right here. So I run over there, I shut off the main
- 25:02water valve, and I'm like, uh oh, we got a problem.
- 25:03So yeah, So it was kind of the same thing, but it didn't
- 25:07actually soak through the carpets all that much, like you know, Sean was
- 25:10mentioning, you know, walking around and it's squishy and everything. We were
- 25:14able to stop it most of the way, but it still cost us twenty
- 25:18five thousand dollars wow to fix because they had to completely tear out all of
- 25:23the drywall in that entire spare bedroom downstairs and rebuild some of the frame because
- 25:29they you know, the wood got soaked. They had to relay the pipe,
- 25:33and they've come to find out when the builder put it in, they
- 25:37did not install the outdoor spigot with a downgrade, which allows the water to
- 25:42just gradually, you know, drain out after you shut off the valve.
- 25:48So they didn't install it with the downgrade, so the water got trapped in
- 25:51that pipe. Now they were telling us, oh, well, well,
- 25:52you know we built the house. Oh yeah, your pipes will never freeze
- 25:56because we're all using pecks. Yeah, they use pecks up and till eighteen
- 26:00inches to the outdoor spigot. There's eighteen inches of copper that that comes from
- 26:06the outside into the house and then they connect the PEX pipe. That eighteen
- 26:11inches is what burst, right, And so we obviously we got the insurance
- 26:15company to take care of it for us. But it was, it was.
- 26:18It was very eerially similar to what Sean said. But thankfully we were
- 26:22able to catch it before we had that much damage. So, Sean,
- 26:26I was gonna ask you a question. Yeah, I was gonna ask you.
- 26:29It is it's it's it's insane. I was gonna ask you, Sean,
- 26:33do you have like any concerns about like mold or anything like, did
- 26:37you tear up your carpet? I mean, no, we haven't. We
- 26:40haven't tow anything out right, it's only been the the dehumanifier is pulling a
- 26:44ton of water out right, and so it's almost completely dry. It's damp
- 26:48still, so we have the I mean, it's a huge de humidifier that's
- 26:52pulling a ton of water out right. So we're just gonna leave it running
- 26:56for the week. Obviously, if we need to keep it running longer,
- 27:00will be fine. But I'm not concerned with mold or anything as long as
- 27:03the relative humidity stays low enough for what I'm comfortable with. My concern is
- 27:08is there's a trend right now with insurance companies. If you're making a homeowner's
- 27:14claim that is worth X amount of dollars, they may come back and say,
- 27:19yeah, we're we're not gonna renew your insurance after this because there is
- 27:25a trend. And this is from the advice of our financial advisor. If
- 27:29you don't have to make a homeowners claim or an insurance claim, try to
- 27:32avoid it because insurance companies are trying to find ways to not renew your contracts.
- 27:37Where you're yearly is because they want to get you out because of the
- 27:41cost. Well, you know, I talked about this on a previous show,
- 27:45how we recently also had a water leak from our shower or master shower,
- 27:51and it was dripping into our dining room, and so I called out
- 27:55a plumber, I called out a restoration company. They pinpointed the location of
- 28:00the leak, and it turns out it's it's actually the most likely cause is
- 28:06the shower drain gasket has come loose from the drain pipe, and so the
- 28:11water's leaking out, and then it it kind of runs down with gravity over
- 28:17to the tub drain and then it finds the path of least resistance and it
- 28:21drips down into the sheet rock or the dry wall below us into the dining
- 28:25room, and that's where it's dripping down onto the floor. And so,
- 28:30as I mentioned in the previous show, we decided to just go ahead and
- 28:32get a complete renovation. We're just gonna spend the money. It turns out
- 28:36this is going to cost us like thirty five thirty eight thousand dollars thirty eight
- 28:40thousand dollars to do a renovation of our bathroom. But it's gonna be our
- 28:44dream bathroom. But I did get the insurance company involved, and they actually
- 28:48came out today, like as of this recording. They came out today.
- 28:52They took pictures. They were saying, Okay, we need, you know,
- 28:55an official document of the loss or the cause of loss. So I
- 29:00called the handyman that did all the work on it, and he's like,
- 29:02you know, I explained what the insurance company's looking for, and he wrote
- 29:04it up. And so I'm gonna send it over to the insurance company and
- 29:07they're gonna hopefully approve at least a portion of it. I'm I'm kind of
- 29:12expecting to be ten to fifteen thousand dollars just to restore it back to what
- 29:17it was because of the way they have to remove everything to get to the
- 29:19damage. But now that Sean is saying this about this trend of insurance companies
- 29:25wanting to drop you, I mean, I use i'm usaa, you know,
- 29:30being a foreigner veteran. Yeah, they're a good company. But I'm
- 29:33just I'm hoping now that Sean is saying that, now it makes me a
- 29:36little bit nervous, Like I'm hoping that they don't try to drop us because
- 29:41we used the claim a couple of years ago when we had that water damage,
- 29:44like I just talked about, and then we're using the claim again for
- 29:47water damage again. I've never heard of USAA dropping people. I used that.
- 29:52They're good. They I mean, part of it is they have kind
- 29:56of like a captive user base, like they only serve people who meet the
- 30:00criteria can get USA. So I wouldn't see them dropping because if you start
- 30:07spreading word to that user base, like hey, hey, remember how they
- 30:10used to be really really great. Well then this happened. Yeah, hot
- 30:15water in the media recently so well, speaking of USA, Yeah, they
- 30:18were in the hot water because they actually a couple Yeah, they they decided
- 30:25to open up the registration for USA to the public. They were like,
- 30:27no, we're not gonna We're not gonna serve just the military anymore. We're
- 30:32gonna serve everybody. And they got such a huge backlash from the military community,
- 30:37basically people saying, you know what, go kick rocks. We're out.
- 30:41We're we're leaving your bank. We're gonna drop your bank, we're gonna
- 30:44drop your insurance company, We're gonna leave USA because we feel like this is
- 30:48a perk of being in the military is that we get access to USA.
- 30:53So then USA quickly backtracked and said, okay, fine, fine, fine,
- 30:56fine, We're we're only gonna serve the military community. And that's that's
- 31:00what they're known for, is serving the military commits and their family because I'm
- 31:03a member, but and their families as well, so that that makes it
- 31:07pretty good. All Right, we got a question justin I want to know
- 31:11how you feel about this. All right. First of all, Apple was
- 31:14first. I will say that Android users are soon going to be able to
- 31:21locate matter of fact, that you do it now locate phones, smart watches,
- 31:25earbuds, and trackers, courtesy of Google's new Find My Device network.
- 31:32This means I'm sorry, Yeah, we've had this past Monday. Google finally
- 31:38launched what they're calling is to Find My Device Network, geared towards locating devices
- 31:44even if they're offline, so that that's the thing you can find them.
- 31:48Of dead battery, I've heard the dead battery. It uses Bluetooth to track
- 31:52down missing phones and other devices that are disconnected from a Wi Fi or sell
- 31:57network. And apparently it's gonna be different now. Some people have said to
- 32:01me, yeah, sure, you could say, Apple, was first.
- 32:05But this is better than what the find my phone, which is exact opposite
- 32:10of what usually happens. It is usually Google has it first and Apple goes
- 32:15and makes it better, right in this case? Yeah, yeah, I
- 32:17don't know. I mean, I mean I've I've had to find my device
- 32:21on my Google, you know, products for a long time. But yeah,
- 32:24I the whole idea about having it when the device is turned offline.
- 32:30Yeah, I guess I could give that to them, that that they're taking
- 32:34a page from Apple and they're they're finding a way to do this when the
- 32:38device is not connected to cellular or Wi Fi. Basically probably just using the
- 32:44technology where uh a Google phone or whatever Android phone can ping another Android phone
- 32:52that is online and report its location saying hey I'm lost, you know,
- 32:58uh, here's my last note location or something like that. So kind of
- 33:01like what what Apple does with the air tags and stuff like that. So
- 33:06yeah, I could see that. I I like that idea. Yeah,
- 33:07it's not not a bad idea too. Now you have a pixel you have
- 33:12the pixels one right, yeah, pixel eight pro. Yeah, is this
- 33:15something you would start using on this? I mean no, because I don't
- 33:20lose my phone you're knock knock on wood. But I mean, I'm not
- 33:25that. I'm I'm sorry, no disrespect, but I'm not I'm not that
- 33:29dumb. Well, my phone, my phone is in my hand or in
- 33:32my you know, I mean if I lose my phone, it's if I
- 33:35lose my phone, it's in the the side cushion of the couch. That's
- 33:38that's where it's at. Yeah, I will definitely be using it because my
- 33:45wife's trademark phrase is wait, I don't know where my phone is anymore.
- 33:49Oh, I have a habit. It's always. It's always somewhere, maybe
- 33:52maybe in a car. Don't let her listen to this episode after he's sitting
- 33:58next to me, justin I'm all be a dead man. Shoot. I
- 34:01have a habit of when I go to the grocery store, I'll put my
- 34:06phone down. I've walked away and then mister, mister, your phone.
- 34:09And then one time I did this, I put it in the shopping cart.
- 34:13They have a little holder, right. I put it in the shopping
- 34:15cart, got my groceries out, put it in the car, took the
- 34:19shopping cart, put it in the rack, went back to the car,
- 34:22got in the car, drove home. I get home, get the stuff
- 34:24inside, and I'm like, wait a minute, where's my phone? And
- 34:29then I thought, oh, oh, so I drove back to the market,
- 34:30which is right right, bet in the house, right I start.
- 34:35I go inside, Nobody's turned to the phone, and I'm thinking, then
- 34:37I remember the shopping cart. I go to the carts and there's about like
- 34:42six or seven deep. Now there is my phone sitting stick it out in
- 34:45the cart. Nobody took it. Was like, I could take this,
- 34:53yeah, but I know he's gonna be back sure enough. I was all
- 34:59right, we have a list. Her question from Estella in Tucson. She
- 35:02says she was gifted some air pods over the Christmas holidays. She said,
- 35:07you got the pro version. That's good, But I have had them pop
- 35:12out of my ears while cleaning. She's cleaning her ears or cleaning the house.
- 35:15I think, yeah, okay. She wants to know if we know
- 35:20of any ways that you could get them to stay in your ears. Well,
- 35:23can I jump on this one? Yeah? Yeah, please? Okay.
- 35:27So I my family has a lovely genetic mutation on my father's side to
- 35:34where my right ear is actually deformed. The in the reis why I bring
- 35:38this up? Yes, I am the worst. I am the worst mutant
- 35:43in the X Men. I'm just half deaf in one ear. I'm the
- 35:47one they leave at the mansion. They're like, you know what, just
- 35:50go ahead and like dust up the room and we'll see you when we're doing
- 35:53Did you get us a picture of your ear and we could put it with
- 35:57sean stuff of the eclipse? My god, yeah, that's this is a
- 36:02random picture, just like eclipse eclipse weird ear eclipse clips. But so my
- 36:10right ear, the cartilage for the bowl in your ear is actually flipped and
- 36:15it made the ear canal grow, it actually develops it about half the diameter
- 36:20that it's supposed to be. So I've always had earbuds just continually pop out,
- 36:24and sometimes they just like fall out. Sometimes they're like shrawsh inking for
- 36:28freedom and just fly off to the side. Right. But I finally figured
- 36:31out, and I figured it out with freedom. I'm sorry, can we
- 36:37just revisit that a second? What the heck does that even mean? Josh
- 36:42Ank Redemption, I'm listen, it's been a long day. It's been a
- 36:50long day. So you're you're you're you're having the same problem that it's having
- 36:53the same issue. And what I finally figured out is that you you have
- 36:57to change the tips that you're using for the earbuds. So a lot of
- 37:01times when people think, oh it's popping out, so I need to go
- 37:05to a larger earbud size, go smaller. I I would always go up
- 37:10to like the large and like jam it in there and be like, all
- 37:13right, now it's fitting, went all the way down to the small,
- 37:15popped it in and I swear it was like I felt that earbud lock into
- 37:21place. I'm sarting to shake in my head like a dog. Even my
- 37:24dogs are looking at me like those are some pro moves. Man, what
- 37:27are you doing now That earbud just stayed completely in place. Yes, we
- 37:31can do duct tape, but duct tate's yeah, it's never coming out.
- 37:36Smaller tape, a smaller tip. And because I do believe when you get
- 37:39the the air pod prows they have different sized tips in there, but you
- 37:45probably go online, you'd probably order them. There's others that have obviously been
- 37:47going through this as well. Oh yeah, there's also I've found some really
- 37:52good ones that because the ones that we normally have now are just like that,
- 37:55the folded little plastic sheath that just clicks into place and comes and domes
- 38:01over. There are some other ones out there. I can look it up
- 38:05on the break and try and find the name. But they click onto the
- 38:07ear PUDs, uh, ear pods, earbuds, yeah, buds whatever.
- 38:14Bud's a movie dude. Like I said, I haven't been sleeping dog letting
- 38:19you have this. But you roll them like the little foam earplugs. You
- 38:23roll them and set them in place, and then they expand just that little
- 38:27bit inside your ear. Okay, they and that's a really solid fit.
- 38:31And not only is it good for like the stability of keeping it in there,
- 38:36but any ambient sound isn't gonna sneak in otherwise, so you get kind
- 38:38of like a dorouble noise cancelation. All right, we're gonna take another break.
- 38:43We come back. Sean is going to share a listitor question from Bob
- 38:46for us. Bob's here in Saladita and he's trying to help his parents with
- 38:52their computer. We've all, I think a lot of us have been through
- 38:55that. So we'll do that when we many times. Yes, I'm Andy
- 39:00Taylor, I'm Sean duird. I'm Matt Jones and I'm justin. Let me
- 39:06you can send us an X at tech talk Radio. We'll be right back.
- 39:10And now back to tech talk Radio. So we listened to the question
- 39:16from Estella last segment about the hair pods, and now we've got a question
- 39:20from Bob and Sajtay. Yes, yeah, he did. You knocked it
- 39:24out of the pop. Bob says, I have been helping my parents with
- 39:28their computer. Yeah, running a Windows ten machine they got a couple of
- 39:31years ago. They have a bad habit of putting everything on the desktop.
- 39:35I've been trying to tell them this is not good for the best computer performance.
- 39:39They listen to you guys, and I'm hoping you can help them explain
- 39:42it for help. They listen to you guys, and I'm hoping you can
- 39:45explain it to them. It's one of those takes like stop, he's telling
- 39:49them, but they're saying no. I've never heard the tech talk radio guys
- 39:52say that, Yeah, now you are stop. Stop. If I if
- 39:59I had a newspaper, just no, all right, that why we know.
- 40:05But actually it takes extra processing power to render all the little icons,
- 40:10and if you have a million icons on your desktop. It has to process,
- 40:15it has to show them to you. I have this problem at work.
- 40:19There's a lady who is one of my coworkers who keeps her in time.
- 40:23She's got three monitors and they are all full of icons. Oh my
- 40:30god, like I want to throw up. I'm like, and she's like,
- 40:36my computer is so slow. I'm like, oh my god. I
- 40:38keep telling you stop putting stuff on your desk. Well, but I know
- 40:43where they're at. I just I just know where everything's at. Stop,
- 40:47like seriously put them into folders at like I don't know datum, like April
- 40:52of twenty four, put everything in there for that one, But then what
- 40:55are you still putting them on the desktop? Right, It's like, yeah,
- 40:58but at least at least you can put like a hundred different items in
- 41:00a folder or whatever for that month, like whatever, But just stop putting
- 41:06everything on your desktop, every single file, every single picture, every single
- 41:10play, single shortcut that you created. So she's got three monitors, yeah,
- 41:19you need to change her background to each monitor, just so the whole
- 41:22wallpaper it just says, put it away. Yeah yeah, yeah, Well
- 41:27I can do that because I'm the admin. I can put a group policy
- 41:30and force it to her computer. But yeah, I you know the thing
- 41:32with this is you can tell people to do it, and will they start
- 41:37doing it? And uh if if, Bob, Bob, if your parents
- 41:40are listening, he's trying to help you, and he's actually making some sense
- 41:44here that yes, it can actually help with your performance. There is nothing
- 41:47worse when somebody who is in it or even understands computers walks in, they
- 41:52turn on the monitor or the monitors still on because you never turn it off.
- 41:55And there it is one hundred icons going all across and you know where
- 42:00each one is. But I kind of blame Microsoft in this because Microsoft has
- 42:06changed the way we find programs so many different times, from XP to ninety
- 42:12eight to ten, seven, eight eleven, ten, all of that,
- 42:16they keep changing it. Let me ask you guys a question, every one
- 42:21of you rapid speed fire here Andy, how many icons do you have on
- 42:24your desktop? I have? I probably have about forty or fifty, but
- 42:30they're in actions. Okay, Matt Brow, Okay, Sean, about forty
- 42:36probably, Okay, I have three, that's it. So what are what
- 42:40are the three you have? Like my computer, I have my documents and
- 42:45I have the recycled then. Yeah, and when you need a program,
- 42:49you know, just go to all all apps, right, Yeah, but
- 42:52I was I was kind of hoping that Sean and Andy didn't say forty.
- 42:58It kind of defeats the Purple guys. Yeah, yeah, I've got them.
- 43:00I'm looking at it right now, Bob's parents who are listening to the
- 43:05show. I have been in it for oh my god, I've been in
- 43:07it for sixteen years. That's been for twenty two years. So first off,
- 43:15that was a sobering moment for me. But I've been in it for
- 43:19sixteen years. When I go to help someone and I turn on their machine
- 43:23and it looks like Windows has vomited on the desktop, yeah, I cry
- 43:28on the inside, sometimes on the outside, sometimes on the outside. Yes.
- 43:34Yeah, So just I mean rule of thump. Just try to put
- 43:37everything off your desktop. I mean it, honestly, it's going to speed
- 43:38up your computer a little bit, if not a lot, But just stop
- 43:43putting everything on your desktop. Yeah, I've seen there's there, Andy started.
- 43:49There's also there's also a backup element to that, because if you've got
- 43:53your computer set up to like back up my documents, things like that,
- 43:57and you you're not backing up all this crap that you're leaving on your desktop,
- 44:02and you know, you dump a word file and it lives there and
- 44:06your backup runs, it doesn't back up that document. Yeah, right right,
- 44:10that's true. So it's kind of a safety feature, that's uh,
- 44:15that's a part of that as well. Yep. Yeah, And I've seen
- 44:17people that have their downloads, you know, their downloads go right to the
- 44:22desktop rather than you know, into a download folder. And next thing you
- 44:24know, you've got all these downloads that have been done, whether programs,
- 44:30maybe even programs they've bought installers, and they're still there even after they've been
- 44:36installed because they don't know what to do with them. So next thing you
- 44:38know, you've got or even photos, which is not good. You hook
- 44:42up your phone and you drag you know, you drag your photos and you
- 44:45leave them on your desktop. That can also be a problem there because then
- 44:49what happens if yeah, what happens if you you accidentally delete your desktop,
- 44:53which could happen. So yeah, that's something to think about. So Bob,
- 44:58yeah, keep you know, you got to keep keep telling the good
- 45:01fight. Man. Yes, we're with you of that one. I'm sorry,
- 45:06I lied. I do have one item on my desktop, but it's
- 45:09a shortcut to Hell Divers too, so I'm I'm allowed that I'll forgive you.
- 45:14Is that is that a new game? Is that the new game?
- 45:20You have no idea what you just did? Yes, Hell Divers one was
- 45:23originally made by Arrowhead Studios. It was a top down dual stick shooter and
- 45:31they dropped Hell Divers too, and honest to god, they they've caught lightning
- 45:37in a bottle with this. It's the easiest way to think of it for
- 45:42people who have no idea. What I'm talking about is this is like Starship
- 45:45Troopers the video game. Like you are fighting the bugs, you are fighting
- 45:50automatons. There are probably gonna be some aliens that show up because we've had
- 45:53all the signs of it. And there is one dude in Arrowhead Studios who
- 45:58is my current nemesis along with all the other hell Divers. His name is
- 46:00Joel. His sole job is to be the game master of the continuing narrative
- 46:06of this game. But you are a hell Diver, which is like an
- 46:09orbital drop trooper for Super Earth, spreading managed democracy and freedom. I'm doing
- 46:16my part. Yeah, I'm doing my part democracy. Hey guess what we
- 46:21are not the good guys? Oh wow. But they lean into that so
- 46:27hard, and they lean into that with the story and the lore and just
- 46:30the continuing story that expands through what they call major orders, which are the
- 46:36community goals to get done because we're all we're all fighting for democracy and freedom
- 46:40there wink wink, nudge nudge, so you know, everyone's trying to do
- 46:45the same thing. And yeah, it's it is an amazing game. They
- 46:50went from a top down to nowadays third person with some first person aimed down
- 46:54the sites if you turn that on. But the game's ridiculous. It's kind
- 47:00of like what Rocks started with the Grand Theft You remember Grand Theft Auto.
- 47:02It was originally a top down it was category yeah, yep, same thing.
- 47:07And the glow up this game had. It's just gorgeous, Sean,
- 47:12I saw it on your desktop. Are you with me on this? And
- 47:14that game is just gorgeous the small mount I've played of it. Yes,
- 47:17it's been pretty awesome. All right, here's a question. Here's a question.
- 47:22For lots of rumor and speculation about this one. Windows twelve could be
- 47:25out before the end of the year. Even though Microsoft is being kind of
- 47:29tight lipped about this one, here's a big question for each of us.
- 47:32What would you want to see with a new Windows twelve a little more zero
- 47:39and go back to Windows ten? Yeah? All right, So I like
- 47:45Justin's no more blue screens, matt less, less, less ads, less
- 47:52directed connected content, Like, give you that's going to happen. I know
- 47:57it's not, but I would give me an option to turn off all of
- 48:01the ad content. I don't want to see search. I don't want to
- 48:05click on the Windows button and see ads, right, I don't want That's
- 48:08gonna cost you four and I would pay it. I don't want to stop
- 48:14and type in hell divers and get ads for YouTube videos and stuff in my
- 48:20search bar. I hate it. It's annoying. Yeah, I'm going to
- 48:22second that with Sean. I want the old search back, where like if
- 48:27I type something in my search bar, it did not double as a web
- 48:30browser search. I want it Like, if I can't find a random file
- 48:36and I'm digging for it, let me type in the search bar and actually
- 48:38search my dang system and find it for me. That has got to be
- 48:43so fresh, That is so frustrating. Yeah, and I was suddenly a
- 48:46pull because, oh what am I doing? Am I searching the web or
- 48:49I'm searching my computer? Because it really doesn't, you know, outline it.
- 48:52But I'm thinking with with all of this the AI stuff, they're going
- 48:55to be adding to it. Even Facebook right now. I don't know how
- 48:59many of us are still on Facebook, but you want to do a search
- 49:01on Facebook, it's going to give you a meta search first, so it's
- 49:06not nothing, no results at all for what I was looking for. Yeah,
- 49:12nobody searches meta for anything exactly. So again I think we're you know,
- 49:17now they're talking about the new Xbox. The next Xbox would have AI
- 49:22incorporated, so you would have a buddy that would talk to you and so,
- 49:24oh, what do you want to do today? So there was a
- 49:28speaking of the next Xbox they were talking about. Phil Spencer was kind of
- 49:30hinting at the next Xbox console might not even be a console at all.
- 49:35They're heavily leaning into this game Pass, which is I think is the future
- 49:38of Xbox. It's going to be game Pass, and they're also hinting at
- 49:43the possibility that the next actual physical console for Xbox might be a handheld and
- 49:52because you know, the handhelds are all the rage right now. I mean
- 49:54we talked about my Steam deck that I just got, you know, recently,
- 49:58we got the a Sus, we got the Legion, we got all
- 50:00those other handhelds right now. It's that's the new rage. And so I
- 50:06think if Xbox were to release its next console as a handheld with game Pass
- 50:12embedded in it, oh my god, over PlayStation a Microsoft handheld console.
- 50:17I don't know. PlayStation tried that. Remember you brought one over when you
- 50:22were visiting me once. I know, but that's been That was like twenty
- 50:25years ago. So much has changed since then, and game Pass wasn't around
- 50:30a game pass With the cloud gaming, I mean, imagine you could have
- 50:34a console that has very minimal storage on your handheld because everything is cloud based.
- 50:40Yes, people are gonna be like, well, not always done Wi
- 50:43Fi okay, fine, integrate five G, integrade of five G chip in
- 50:47it. And now you've got on the go gaming with a thousand or more
- 50:53games at your hand, at your fingertips anywhere you want to go. It
- 51:00could be interesting. All Right, we're gonna take another quick break. We
- 51:02come back a product That made me laugh because now it's kind of replicating a
- 51:07film of Steve Martin's I'll tell you about that. We come back to Jerk.
- 51:10Yes, I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird, I'm Matt Jones,
- 51:14and I'm Justin Let me again find us on the web at tech talk
- 51:16radio dot com. We'll be right back and now fact to tech talk Radio.
- 51:22So there is a big story that came out this past week about Apple
- 51:27vision Pro. Mac Rumors put the story together that owners have been dealing with
- 51:31health issues related of the headset. Now, according to a report from MarketWatch,
- 51:38they're saying that the site talked to owners of the Vision Pro who said
- 51:44they had headaches, neck pain, and other issues of this fun anyway,
- 51:50Apple vision Pro, and it kind of reminded me of the Jerk with Steve
- 51:52Martin, because you remember how he became, you know, the richest man
- 51:57in America. He created something, if you remember what it was called,
- 52:00I don't remember what it was called, but it was like a little pinch
- 52:02on the front for glasses. Yeah, it would stop the glasses from sliding
- 52:07down your nose. It's called the Opti grab. So it's like, is
- 52:10the is the Apple Vision Pro apples OPTI grab it. Just it makes you
- 52:15wonder. I mean I still want to try one. I still definitely want
- 52:17to try it. I don't. You don't want to try it, you
- 52:20don't even want to experience it. No, I don't like Apple Come on,
- 52:23that's the only thing. I'm literally I am. I am putting my
- 52:28foot down. I'm putting the flag in the sand. No, somebody gave
- 52:32me an Apple Vision Pro, I would probably be like no, no,
- 52:35thank you, and I probably just smash it, please cod dude, at
- 52:38least sell it and get some money. Shut you want to try it,
- 52:43right? I would try? Yeah, definitely. Also, the founders of
- 52:47Instagram they launched artifact. Have you guys checked that out yet? And yeah,
- 52:52we talked about AI. We were just telling a story behind this,
- 52:55the original founders. Yeah, the original founders of Instagram launched the artifact and
- 53:00it was cool. It was AI delivered news, So if I would look
- 53:02at stories that were tech it would feed me tech stories, and if I
- 53:06looked at stories that were tech servers, it would feed me tech server stories.
- 53:10And they'd made the decision a couple of months ago that that was it.
- 53:13They had the run and they were going away. Yahoo has come in
- 53:16and bought them, of course, so y'ahhoo famed for great business decisions.
- 53:23When you think of great technology innovations, you think of Yahoo. So I
- 53:28want to make one quick comment about Instagram because you mentioned it. I just
- 53:30reminded myself. When Facebook bought Instagram, a big revelation was that Instagram users
- 53:36could message Facebook users and vice versa. Right, yeah, they took that
- 53:39away. Instagram users can no longer message Facebook users because Caitlin would send me
- 53:45because I don't have Instagram and I still use Facebook Messenger because it's tied to
- 53:50you know, all my family and stuff, and I can at least chat
- 53:52with some people. She would be able to send me reels to my Facebook
- 53:55Messenger and I'd be able to go to the web and view them. Can't
- 53:59do it anymore. You know why they want you to use WhatsApp, which
- 54:01Mata also owns it. What's weird is if you browse Facebook, you'll see
- 54:06a bunch of like reels on Facebook, and then you want to click on
- 54:08comments. It says, oh, to view the comments, you have to
- 54:12go to Instagram click here, and it will take you to Instagram, So
- 54:15it's like a one way street here, Like you can view it on Facebook,
- 54:19but then you have to go to Instagram for that, but then Instagram
- 54:21can't view Facebook stuff. Yeah, it's really weird how they've got that all
- 54:23laid out. But I think, Sean, I think, honestly, the
- 54:27real reason is they want you to use WhatsApp and for messaging between the two.
- 54:31All I get on WhatsApp is scams. I'm starting to get scam calls
- 54:36from th Oh my god, it's all the time. It's just scam after
- 54:38scam after scam. WhatsApp is horrible. I stopped trusting them when Facebook bought
- 54:45them because they were the original like end to end encrypted messaging platform. And
- 54:50then Facebook was like, we promise not to use the power of the holder
- 54:53of the encryption keys to read any of your messages. Wait, nudge,
- 54:58nudge. I want to Telegram after that, and I'm still there, like,
- 55:01I don't trust WhatsApp whatsoever. I've never looked at Telegram. I'm gonna
- 55:06have to check that one out. Telegram is still kind of a spammy thing,
- 55:09but it's not as bad as What's happen. That wraps up this week's
- 55:12tech Talk Radio. Thanks for tuning in. Don't forget to check out our
- 55:15YouTube page. We can check out videos and hopefully we'll be going on live
- 55:19from time to time there on YouTube. I'd love you to participate. I'm
- 55:22Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird, I'm Matt Jones, and I'm just
- 55:25that Wait, we're gonna go livee on YouTube. Oh we're gonna get sued.
- 55:30Oh man, we'll see you next time.
