- 0:52Speaker 5: I need to tell you about this new sports trading
- 0:55Speaker 5: app called Polymarket. It's the best new way to trade
- 0:58Speaker 5: in sports. In the past, you wanted action on the game,
- 1:01Speaker 5: you put some money in, and if your team was
- 1:04Speaker 5: doing well and you wanted to cash out, they'd lock
- 1:06Speaker 5: the trade and take a huge fee.
- 1:09Speaker 1: But Polymarket is a prediction market.
- 1:11Speaker 5: It's a stock exchange for sports, buying in and selling
- 1:14Speaker 5: out on your terms. When your team goes down to 20%,
- 1:17Speaker 5: you can buy in and sell it off at 40%
- 1:20Speaker 5: when your team comes back to double your money. I've
- 1:22Speaker 5: tried them all and Polymarket is simply the best. Better
- 1:26Speaker 5: than DraftKings, FanDuel, Kaoshi, you name it. They're so confident
- 1:30Speaker 5: you'll never go back to the other guys. They're giving
- 1:32Speaker 5: you a free $ 50 on your first trade when you
- 1:35Speaker 5: deposit $ 10. And now they've launched a new feature, squads
- 1:40Speaker 5: a group chat where you can see what everyone is
- 1:43Speaker 5: trading on so download the polymarket app today and you'd

- 2:51Speaker 3: Long day today at baseball.
- 2:52Speaker 4: Long day at baseball, but a great day at baseball.
- 2:55Speaker 1: It was exciting. It was nice to lock in for
- 2:58Speaker 1: multiple hours from 2 o'clock on. Just finished SportsCenter baseball tonight.
- 3:05Speaker 1: hits here from 1 to 2 a.m., so we are
- 3:08Speaker 1: coming to you fresh with our takes.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Fresh.
- 3:13Speaker 1: This is like Seattle Market.
- 3:15Speaker 4: This is like where we got fish just straight out
- 3:18Speaker 4: of the ocean.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Let's go.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, bro, I did the Today Show this
- 3:27Speaker 3: morning at 8.30, and I got to the field, Yankee Stadium,
- 3:32Speaker 3: around 1245 to do the 2 o'clock pregame show for
- 3:35Speaker 3: the Braves-Phillies. Sat around, watched the game, talked to the managers,
- 3:40Speaker 3: did the Yankees-Red Sox game, was inside the pitch there.
- 3:42Speaker 3: That place was electric. And then caught the back end
- 3:47Speaker 3: of the Cubs-Padres game, saw the highlights of the Astros-White Sox.
- 3:54Speaker 3: I mean, bro, what a great day for baseball.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Bro, that place looked electric. Yankee Stadium sounded so loud
- 4:01Speaker 1: on TV. I've watched all the games and had a
- 4:05Speaker 1: couple reactions already. But what an exciting day. The Phillies-Braves
- 4:08Speaker 1: game kicked it off perfectly with the drama, the back
- 4:11Speaker 1: and forth, tough manager moves. And then you've got, you know,
- 4:16Speaker 1: White Sox-Astros. So impressed with the White Sox at-bats from.
- 4:19Speaker 4: Their young guys.
- 4:20Speaker 1: And then listen to you. Great call tonight. That was
- 4:23Speaker 1: a lot of fun. It was a great listen. Obviously,
- 4:26Speaker 1: Cam is the story. Cam Schlittler with a dominant performance, man.
- 4:30Speaker 1: And then the Cubbies kind of fall to the San
- 4:34Speaker 1: Diego Padres. But great kickoff, wildcard baseball, round one. Which
- 4:39Speaker 1: one do you want to talk about first?
- 4:41Speaker 3: Well, I think the biggest story was Aaron Judge. Let's
- 4:43Speaker 3: talk about the Yankees. Aaron Judge being left off the
- 4:45Speaker 3: wildcard roster with his calf. He's had a rough year
- 4:49Speaker 3: with injuries. He injured his rib. He comes back. It
- 4:52Speaker 3: looks like he's getting in the flow. He gets a
- 4:53Speaker 3: big home run. in Minnesota, and then he hurts his calf.
- 4:58Speaker 3: And there's a lot of questions. Kind of he said,
- 5:01Speaker 3: she said. Booney said he was out. Judge said, why
- 5:04Speaker 3: are you ruling me out so early type thing? Because
- 5:07Speaker 3: he wants to play. You know, this is Yankees Red Sox.
- 5:11Speaker 3: There's only so many times you get this, right? And
- 5:13Speaker 3: it's back-to-back years.
- 5:15Speaker 4: And that's what makes Aaron Judge.
- 5:16Speaker 1: I try to tell people, like, the reason why he's
- 5:20Speaker 1: the captain and one of the best players on the planet,
- 5:22Speaker 1: but outside of his talent, his competitiveness, that's what makes
- 5:26Speaker 1: him so great.
- 5:26Speaker 4: He is like in for the boys.
- 5:28Speaker 1: He wants to, uh, be there for his teammates and
- 5:32Speaker 1: his city and a big series and, you know, get
- 5:35Speaker 1: them to the next round. So I, you know, I
- 5:38Speaker 1: love that mentality and that's what makes him him, but
- 5:40Speaker 1: you're also, you know, you put the, the manager vision
- 5:44Speaker 1: goggles on and you say, we're trying to, and the
- 5:46Speaker 1: trainers and trying to protect this guy. Cause our, the
- 5:48Speaker 1: big picture in New York is when the world series it's,
- 5:51Speaker 1: it's that or bus. So, Um, I, I definitely, I
- 5:54Speaker 1: get it.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Right.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Like he's a competitor. Um, I listened to some of
- 5:58Speaker 1: his comments. Like you could tell he, it was with
- 6:01Speaker 1: a grain of salt. He was saying, uh, it's probably,
- 6:04Speaker 1: you know, it's, it's probably going to be best, but
- 6:06Speaker 1: I'm in here for the long haul and get the
- 6:07Speaker 1: boys locked in and.
- 6:09Speaker 4: I'll see him in the next round.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Well, I was talking to Booney before the game about
- 6:13Speaker 3: how hard that was. Right. I, I purposely have not
- 6:18Speaker 3: contacted judge the last couple of days. I was going
- 6:20Speaker 3: to send him a thumbs up or thumbs down last
- 6:22Speaker 3: night to see if he was on the roster. But
- 6:25Speaker 3: I didn't want people asking me today, which they did, hey,
- 6:28Speaker 3: have you talked to Aaron? And I just didn't want
- 6:30Speaker 3: to have to lie to people and whatnot. But the
- 6:35Speaker 3: Yankees go with an interesting approach with the 12 position players,
- 6:39Speaker 3: 10 pitchers. Or I'm sorry, what is it? 16 position players,
- 6:44Speaker 3: 10 pitchers. So I asked Booney.
- 6:49Speaker 4: I go.
- 6:50Speaker 3: The big one was Stanton being on there. And Stanton
- 6:53Speaker 3: hasn't seen a pitch in the big leagues, I think,
- 6:56Speaker 3: since what, late April, early May?
- 6:57Speaker 4: I think April. Yeah, it's April, I think.
- 6:59Speaker 3: So I said, why can't Judge be that pinch hitter, right?
- 7:05Speaker 3: Because if Stanton gets on, you're going to pinch run
- 7:07Speaker 3: for him right away. So why don't you just put
- 7:09Speaker 3: Judge in that role? He's fresher off of games. And
- 7:13Speaker 3: I think it's more of a long-term play here where
- 7:16Speaker 3: they realize that they need Judge for the long haul.
- 7:20Speaker 3: And if they're going to win there, it's going to
- 7:22Speaker 3: be a group effort. That's what the playoffs are. Aaron
- 7:25Speaker 3: judge can't carry a team, you know, single-handedly. So keeping
- 7:31Speaker 3: him off, I think was a collective decision of just
- 7:33Speaker 3: protecting him and not putting him in a situation where
- 7:36Speaker 3: he's going to test that cabin, hurt it for the longterm.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Well, I think one of the two things on that,
- 7:40Speaker 1: like it's really tough for their roster. Like today, who
- 7:43Speaker 1: would you sit Ben Rice or Paul Goldschmidt? If he's
- 7:46Speaker 1: in there, like, Those two guys, Paul Goldschmidt's almost in
- 7:49Speaker 1: 400 off lefties, like your best at bat off left-handers.
- 7:53Speaker 1: And obviously Ben Rice has been their aircraft carrier this year.
- 7:57Speaker 1: So I think it has a lot to do with
- 7:59Speaker 1: that too. Like he needs to play right field when
- 8:01Speaker 1: he's healthy. And the other part of that is like
- 8:03Speaker 1: one thing you can't test is the adrenaline that you're
- 8:07Speaker 1: going to get in that moment, the first swing and
- 8:09Speaker 1: then pushing out of the box on that calf, right?
- 8:12Speaker 1: Like that's when we saw Ryan Howard blow out his
- 8:14Speaker 1: Achilles coming back. Um, I, I feel like, like that's the,
- 8:17Speaker 1: that's kind of the next step. Obviously he's run and
- 8:20Speaker 1: he said it, but that's a controlled environment. He's hit,
- 8:23Speaker 1: feels pretty good. But you know, some of those quick moments, uh,
- 8:27Speaker 1: bursting out of the box, it's just a different adrenaline.
- 8:29Speaker 4: It's a different force you're going to put on that calf.
- 8:32Speaker 3: No doubt. Well, I mean, look, it pressed all the
- 8:35Speaker 3: booty pulled all, pressed all the right buttons today. That's
- 8:37Speaker 3: for sure. Starting with Cam Schlittler. He was lights out
- 8:41Speaker 3: six and a 30 pitching to the seventh, two hits,
- 8:43Speaker 3: no runs, 10 punchies. and 117 pitches. It was almost
- 8:48Speaker 3: a throwback game for a pitcher. You don't think you're
- 8:52Speaker 3: ever going to see a pitcher go 117, especially in
- 8:55Speaker 3: round one.
- 8:56Speaker 4: Well, I thought it was cool.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Like, he ended the sixth with the same amount of
- 9:00Speaker 1: pitches he had last postseason, 107. I was like, what
- 9:03Speaker 1: a great storyline. Like, this guy's dominant. And then he
- 9:06Speaker 1: goes back out for the seventh. And Booney even admitted
- 9:09Speaker 1: in his postgame press conference, he said, I may have
- 9:11Speaker 1: gotten a little greedy after Contreras. He was definitely facing Contreras.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I may get a little greedy, and he gave up
- 9:17Speaker 1: one more hit. They hadn't given up one since the
- 9:19Speaker 1: first to Adley Rushman, but no hard contact. I thought
- 9:24Speaker 1: the thing that stood out to me, I was really watching.
- 9:27Speaker 1: He was landing that breaking ball in the first. That
- 9:29Speaker 1: breaking ball was the story for me.
- 9:32Speaker 4: It was unhittable.
- 9:33Speaker 1: He was landing it at the highest percentage, and he
- 9:37Speaker 1: threw it 12 more times he's ever thrown it in
- 9:40Speaker 1: his career. His max is 20 in a game.
- 9:42Speaker 4: He threw it 32 times.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Tonight, and it was absolutely dominant. Swing and miss all
- 9:48Speaker 1: over the place. You know, when you got a game plan,
- 9:52Speaker 1: if you're the Boston Red Sox coming into that game,
- 9:54Speaker 1: you're like, get on the hard stuff. We know it's sinking, cutting,
- 9:57Speaker 1: and riding, but get on the hard stuff. And he
- 9:59Speaker 1: got so much swing and miss with that fast, with
- 10:01Speaker 1: that breaking ball starting, looking like a fastball coming out
- 10:05Speaker 1: right down the middle and then just disappearing underneath the barrels.
- 10:08Speaker 3: His stuff was absolutely electric. And Yankee Stadium seemed to
- 10:13Speaker 3: just get louder and louder the deeper he went. And
- 10:16Speaker 3: then when he came back out for the seventh, everyone
- 10:18Speaker 3: was going crazy. And, I mean, dude, he's a star
- 10:23Speaker 3: in the making, right?
- 10:24Speaker 4: He's a Cy Young, right?
- 10:26Speaker 3: He's a bona fide Cy Young. And what a way
- 10:33Speaker 3: to start the postseason for this Yankee pitching staff. The
- 10:36Speaker 3: Yankee pitching staff is what's going to carry this team
- 10:39Speaker 3: to the promised land. And they showed it today. And
- 10:42Speaker 3: by him going that deep, Paul Blackburn comes in and
- 10:45Speaker 3: gets five big outs. and then they don't have to
- 10:48Speaker 3: go to Bednar in the ninth, so they save him.
- 10:51Speaker 3: So now you have two– you basically have your back
- 10:54Speaker 3: end of your bullpen super fresh for what comes– you
- 10:57Speaker 3: need to win one of the next two, right? So
- 10:59Speaker 3: they put themselves in a very good position, and it
- 11:02Speaker 3: all starts with Cam Sliller.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Well, and Cam, first pitch of the game, 101. I
- 11:07Speaker 1: think some stat I saw was he only had like
- 11:09Speaker 1: three of those all year, and first pitch of the
- 11:12Speaker 1: game right down the middle just shed Cam.
- 11:14Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, boy.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Lock in if you're the Red Sox.
- 11:18Speaker 3: I mean, and then on the other end, you have
- 11:20Speaker 3: Peyton Tolley, who comes out firing BBs, too. You know
- 11:24Speaker 3: what I mean? And credit to both offenses, the first inning,
- 11:28Speaker 3: they made the pitchers work, which was surprising. Usually that
- 11:32Speaker 3: adrenaline just takes over and the pitchers dominate. But Adley
- 11:36Speaker 3: Rutschman comes out, throws a 10-pitch at bat on Cam
- 11:39Speaker 3: and gets a base hit where that was like, oh,
- 11:42Speaker 3: Cam's pitch count got up there pretty quick in the
- 11:44Speaker 3: first two and Payton totally came out. And I don't
- 11:48Speaker 3: want to say he labored. He, he pitched, you know
- 11:51Speaker 3: what I mean? He didn't, he maybe didn't have his
- 11:53Speaker 3: best stuff, but for a rookie pitcher in that environment
- 11:59Speaker 3: to go and do what he did and maneuver. And
- 12:03Speaker 3: I know he only went four and two thirds, but
- 12:06Speaker 3: he gave up one run, struck out four. He, he,
- 12:10Speaker 3: He competed today, and that's what you want from your
- 12:13Speaker 3: best pitchers.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't love them taking him out either.
- 12:17Speaker 4: Like, I was like four and two-thirds. Like, I know,
- 12:19Speaker 4: you know, a little bit.
- 12:20Speaker 1: I think he had like 84 pitches. But, you know,
- 12:24Speaker 1: it felt like he was laboring, I thought, early maybe
- 12:27Speaker 1: a little bit. Like you said, pitching, maybe not laboring,
- 12:30Speaker 1: but I thought he had settled in and felt really
- 12:33Speaker 1: good about himself.
- 12:33Speaker 4: Got out of that.
- 12:34Speaker 1: That double play was huge. The soft liner. to Durbin
- 12:38Speaker 1: at third with the double off of Lombard Jr. Like,
- 12:41Speaker 1: huge play. You saw the emotions and the fist pump
- 12:44Speaker 1: from Tully. Like, what a great environment and what a
- 12:47Speaker 1: great atmosphere in the Bronx, man.
- 12:50Speaker 4: Really cool from two young studs. I know Cam's been
- 12:54Speaker 4: around a little bit, but.
- 12:55Speaker 1: There's so much young talent in our game, man.
- 12:57Speaker 4: It's really impressive.
- 12:58Speaker 1: George Lombard Jr., first Yankee to start since Mickey Mantle
- 13:02Speaker 1: in a postseason game.
- 13:03Speaker 3: How about that?
- 13:04Speaker 1: And he got two knocks.
- 13:06Speaker 3: That's a 21-year-old. Right. It's insane. It's insane. He got
- 13:10Speaker 3: three knocks.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Youngest.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Three knocks. Thank you.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Thanks.
- 13:13Speaker 3: And him, Volpe looked really good. Spencer Jones looked really good.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Austin Wells had a better second half and came on late,
- 13:24Speaker 3: but he hit under 200. He hit a buck 80
- 13:28Speaker 3: in the regular season. He goes out there and goes
- 13:30Speaker 3: two for three drives in two. You know what I mean?
- 13:33Speaker 3: And it's like everything resets now. And if you're a
- 13:37Speaker 3: Yankee fan, you see this, all these homegrown guys for
- 13:40Speaker 3: the first time, really you're seeing homegrown talent there that
- 13:44Speaker 3: you're like, wow, this is, this is exciting.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Right? Yeah. And, and the storyline is, you know, that
- 13:50Speaker 1: we were talking about is like, I know Yankee hitters
- 13:54Speaker 1: hit left-handers, but they're, they're left-handed dominant. And the Red
- 13:57Speaker 1: Sox had so many great lefties was like, are they
- 14:00Speaker 1: going to be able to kind of stifle this left-handed
- 14:04Speaker 1: Yankee lineup with all their left-handed pitching? And the Yankees
- 14:08Speaker 1: were seven for 13 versus their lefties were seven for
- 14:12Speaker 1: 13 versus left-handed pitchers with, you know, a home run
- 14:15Speaker 1: from Ben Rice.
- 14:16Speaker 4: One of his two was off the lefty.
- 14:18Speaker 1: So, They came through, like you said, Austin Wells, big
- 14:21Speaker 1: at bats, hadn't hit lefties well, just up and down
- 14:25Speaker 1: the line of quality at bats. I thought Spencer Jones
- 14:27Speaker 1: had great A.B. his first when he got out, but
- 14:29Speaker 1: was on a lot of those pitches, swinging it well.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Six RBIs from Ben Rice.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Let's go, Ben.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Let's talk about Ben Rice, bro. Jeez, bro. Four for five,
- 14:41Speaker 3: two homers, a grand slam, a big homer early. It
- 14:44Speaker 3: felt like when he hit the first home run to
- 14:45Speaker 3: put them up 2-0. it felt like it was 6-0
- 14:49Speaker 3: the way the game was going. Yeah.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Well, you think about all the stats the Yankees have,
- 14:54Speaker 1: and he just put the exclamation point on it.
- 14:58Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Every time I watch that guy play, I just love
- 15:02Speaker 1: his game. The bats are just so quality, and he's
- 15:05Speaker 1: in there. He's strong as hell. I mean, that was
- 15:08Speaker 1: a bomb hit to center.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Bomb.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Bomb.
- 15:11Speaker 3: That ball was 108. It barely got over to in
- 15:13Speaker 3: center field. Which, it's deep there at nighttime.
- 15:16Speaker 4: At night, yeah, yeah.
- 15:16Speaker 3: When it's a little chilly. Yeah. So, I mean, when
- 15:20Speaker 3: Ben is hot... I said this during the broadcast to
- 15:23Speaker 3: Joe Girardi. You can't call him a streaky hitter because
- 15:27Speaker 3: he hit 40-plus home runs in the regular season. But
- 15:31Speaker 3: when he gets hot, man, it is... He doesn't get out.
- 15:35Speaker 3: And everything he hits is hard. Now, he'll go through
- 15:38Speaker 3: his ruts with the best of them. But, man... He's
- 15:43Speaker 3: been hot late. He got hot at the end of
- 15:45Speaker 3: September and he rode that into the first game of
- 15:47Speaker 3: the postseason. And if he does what he does and
- 15:52Speaker 3: then you add Judge or get the contributions from the
- 15:57Speaker 3: other guys like they did today, this team looks like
- 16:00Speaker 3: a legitimate World Series threat. Like I said, the predictions, Rossi.
- 16:06Speaker 1: You did.
- 16:07Speaker 3: You did. You did.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Well, talking about how you didn't have to go to
- 16:13Speaker 1: your horses. The one kind of saving grace for the
- 16:16Speaker 1: Red Sox is their back end is going to be
- 16:19Speaker 1: fresh as well. And I said this on air, like,
- 16:22Speaker 1: you know, I've got, like, I picked the Red Sox.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Sonny Grace had a phenomenal year. He's had his struggles
- 16:28Speaker 1: when he was with the Yankees in Yankee Stadium. But,
- 16:31Speaker 1: you know, him on the bump with the fresh back end,
- 16:34Speaker 1: you're going to see their best come out tomorrow in
- 16:37Speaker 1: that series. But the way the offense looked today, and
- 16:40Speaker 1: I know a lot of that had to do with
- 16:41Speaker 1: Cam Schlittler, you know, it's hard for me to kind
- 16:46Speaker 1: of see if the Red Sox, they're not going to
- 16:47Speaker 1: go home tomorrow.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Well, I mean, you can't count the Red Sox out, right? No.
- 16:53Speaker 3: No matter how bad they did look bad tonight, they
- 16:55Speaker 3: were struggling bad in September. They've been mediocre since probably August, right?
- 17:01Speaker 3: They were playing at such a high level for a
- 17:04Speaker 3: really chunk of the dog days of summer. So it
- 17:08Speaker 3: had to even out. But They're not going to roll over.
- 17:12Speaker 3: This team's not going to quit. They're going to come
- 17:14Speaker 3: out tomorrow giving everything they have. But it's a big
- 17:18Speaker 3: loss with Roman Anthony going down, right? Their leadoff hitter.
- 17:21Speaker 3: He comes back. He's one of the faces of the franchise.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Re-aggravates his wrist that he hurt. It looked like on
- 17:28Speaker 3: a check swing. That's a blow for this team that's
- 17:32Speaker 3: already dealing with injuries late in the season.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Well, here's what has kind of put me... I thought
- 17:38Speaker 1: Wilson getting back would... kind of rejolt this offense but
- 17:43Speaker 1: the Red Sox have scored the least amount of runs
- 17:46Speaker 1: in September than anyone and I know he's been out
- 17:49Speaker 1: Roman Anthony's been out like not not all himself Trevor
- 17:53Speaker 1: Story just came back played pretty good but the offense
- 17:57Speaker 1: just hasn't been there and the Yankees rotation I think
- 18:02Speaker 1: may have the best staff in the playoffs no doubt
- 18:04Speaker 1: maybe maybe by far right and So when you look
- 18:07Speaker 1: at those intangibles, that's why I'm saying about, I would
- 18:11Speaker 1: never count the Red Sox out, especially this team of
- 18:13Speaker 1: what they did in the regular season, but it just
- 18:15Speaker 1: hasn't been good in September offensively. And, uh, there, it's
- 18:19Speaker 1: not like they get, um, some Joe Schmo, some slap
- 18:22Speaker 1: kick tomorrow.
- 18:23Speaker 4: You know what I mean? It's just going to be Max.
- 18:26Speaker 3: I mean, and he, exactly. Yeah. Everyone, you could say, Oh,
- 18:29Speaker 3: Sonny Gray's going to come out, but he got Max freed.
- 18:32Speaker 3: And then you got Gary Cole and then you got
- 18:34Speaker 3: Carlos or Don and Carlos or Don's going to be lurking. So,
- 18:36Speaker 3: I'm excited for that game. I do think that the
- 18:42Speaker 3: Yankees win in two here, but that's what everyone was
- 18:45Speaker 3: saying last year with the Red Sox. The Red Sox
- 18:47Speaker 3: win in two, and the Yankees turn around and win
- 18:49Speaker 3: two games. The only team in this wildcard format to
- 18:52Speaker 3: come back after losing game one.
- 18:54Speaker 4: So who you got game two? You got the Yankees?
- 19:00Speaker 3: Here's my biggest concern about game two is– the line
- 19:04Speaker 3: change that's about to take place on the Yankee position players.
- 19:08Speaker 3: You're going to have Luis Garcia Jr. who looked good
- 19:11Speaker 3: in the bat he got playing first. You're going to
- 19:13Speaker 3: have Jazz at second. You're going to have McMahon at third.
- 19:16Speaker 3: So you're going to have a whole new infield except
- 19:17Speaker 3: Lombard Jr.
- 19:18Speaker 4: Wells will be catching. Wells will be catching again.
- 19:21Speaker 3: Wells catching. And then in center, you'll have Spencer, Bellinger,
- 19:27Speaker 3: and then in right, Spencer Jones plays right in Grisham.
- 19:30Speaker 3: So you're going, you have this momentum, right? And these
- 19:34Speaker 3: guys just dominated, had a really good game. There wasn't
- 19:38Speaker 3: a lot of moves made position player-wise. And now you
- 19:42Speaker 3: have a whole new line coming in. So it's like,
- 19:45Speaker 3: but again, if these guys buy into this is what
- 19:48Speaker 3: it's going to be like in the playoffs and it's communicated,
- 19:51Speaker 3: then here we go. Let's roll it out. But that's
- 19:53Speaker 3: my one concern for the Yankees tomorrow. Yeah.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Well, I think that's why they put so many guys
- 19:58Speaker 1: on the roster and you're right. It is a little
- 20:00Speaker 1: bit of like, how are these guys going to get
- 20:02Speaker 1: off to their start? But sitting on the bench in
- 20:05Speaker 1: a game like that just fuels you for tomorrow, as
- 20:09Speaker 1: you know. Well, you've never sat the bench, but as
- 20:11Speaker 1: I know, sitting the bench a lot, you can't wait
- 20:13Speaker 1: to get your opportunity to get in there.
- 20:15Speaker 4: It's going to be super focused.
- 20:16Speaker 1: And the line change, if it works in this wildcard series,
- 20:22Speaker 1: is really a valuable piece for them going through the
- 20:24Speaker 1: playoffs because everybody's going to stay fresh with clean at bat.
- 20:28Speaker 1: So you can mix and match when you have the matchup,
- 20:31Speaker 1: the platoon matchup.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Advantage.
- 20:33Speaker 1: And if those guys are locked in, it feels like
- 20:36Speaker 1: as a manager on the other side, no matter what
- 20:37Speaker 1: move I make, Booney's sitting on my neck with a
- 20:40Speaker 1: really good hitter.
- 20:41Speaker 3: No doubt, especially in this wild card format.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Next game, we've got to talk about the one that
- 20:48Speaker 1: started all the drama. I mean, we couldn't have gotten
- 20:50Speaker 1: a better leadoff game for the postseason this year between
- 20:53Speaker 1: the Braves and the Phillies.
- 20:54Speaker 4: My goodness.
- 20:55Speaker 1: I mean, Jesus Lizardo, you know, we don't know if
- 20:58Speaker 1: he's going to go an inning or The last time
- 21:01Speaker 1: he pitched, he threw four pitches. The first time he
- 21:03Speaker 1: even pitched in September. So much time off. He goes
- 21:06Speaker 1: five innings, six Ks, gives up one run. I mean,
- 21:10Speaker 1: he was as clean as you can expect. And, you know,
- 21:14Speaker 1: Don Mattingly said, like, he gave us way more than
- 21:17Speaker 1: we thought. And Chris Sale gives up one in the first.
- 21:20Speaker 4: And you're like, oh, wait, what?
- 21:23Speaker 1: You know, Alec Baum with that double. Two-out double, two-strike,
- 21:27Speaker 1: just throws his hands at that high heater. I don't
- 21:29Speaker 1: know how he hit that ball. But a great at-bat
- 21:33Speaker 1: there to give the Phillies a lead. And you're like, oh,
- 21:35Speaker 1: here we go. Sales may be hittable. And then, sure enough,
- 21:39Speaker 1: he settles in. And we've got a really good ball
- 21:41Speaker 1: game to start this thing. What a great start to
- 21:44Speaker 1: the postseason.
- 21:46Speaker 3: Great start. And Chris Sales' kind of Achilles is he's
- 21:49Speaker 3: gotten hit a little bit in the postseason. And he
- 21:53Speaker 3: gives up that first run. to the Phillies who have
- 21:55Speaker 3: eliminated the Braves their last two times in the playoffs
- 22:00Speaker 3: facing each other. So it's like, it starts creeping in. Oh,
- 22:03Speaker 3: here we go. Like the Philly, the Phillies, the Phillies
- 22:06Speaker 3: look good, right?
- 22:07Speaker 4: They look good. Yeah. They look really good.
- 22:09Speaker 3: And credit to the Braves for, for not giving up.
- 22:14Speaker 3: And this is why I said, uh, on our last show,
- 22:17Speaker 3: this Braves team is deep, man. They, they can beat
- 22:20Speaker 3: you in a lot of different ways. Um, They tied
- 22:24Speaker 3: the game early on with a bunt. Michael Harris bunting
- 22:28Speaker 3: to move the runner over, right? Okay, that little thing
- 22:33Speaker 3: I don't think fans understand. When you tie the game
- 22:36Speaker 3: up early like that, the whole dugout could exhale, right?
- 22:40Speaker 3: It's tense. It's the first game of the playoffs. You're
- 22:44Speaker 3: at home. I feel like there's a lot more pressure
- 22:46Speaker 3: when you start at home in these series. The back
- 22:52Speaker 3: and forth. The back-and-forth was awesome.
- 22:55Speaker 4: Well, the Phillies' offense, too, like just big hits, quality
- 22:59Speaker 4: of bats. I was shocked.
- 23:00Speaker 1: I think there were five hit-by-pitches in that game, which
- 23:02Speaker 1: is absolutely insane.
- 23:04Speaker 4: Like talking about all the adrenaline the guys have.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Like guys are chucking it this time of year with adrenaline.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Like they don't know where it's going.
- 23:11Speaker 3: No doubt.
- 23:12Speaker 1: I was like, what a weird kind of stat. But
- 23:16Speaker 1: we had the back-and-forth.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Walt Weiss started Mike Yastrzemski. Because he just felt right.
- 23:25Speaker 3: If you look at the numbers, he hit 155 off
- 23:27Speaker 3: lefties the last two years. He's 0 for 13 lifetime
- 23:30Speaker 3: off lefties in the playoffs. And he gets a start,
- 23:32Speaker 3: and he ties the game up on the base hit.
- 23:35Speaker 4: Two out knock.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Two out knock, which is huge.
- 23:37Speaker 3: Yeah. So it was a great thing. Jesus Lizardo, we
- 23:42Speaker 3: have to give more love to him because he's coming
- 23:48Speaker 3: off a shoulder injury. He pitches one inning on Sunday
- 23:50Speaker 3: in an elimination game.
- 23:51Speaker 5: Right?
- 23:52Speaker 3: If they lose that, they're going home. And he goes
- 23:56Speaker 3: out those five innings, gives them, what, 60-plus pitches, which, again,
- 24:03Speaker 3: no one knew what he was going to do. So that's,
- 24:04Speaker 3: I mean, that's just, that's who he is. That's who
- 24:07Speaker 3: he is, and he left it all on the line
- 24:10Speaker 3: for them.
- 24:11Speaker 1: That Phillies bullpen has been so bad in September, too,
- 24:15Speaker 1: almost a six ERA. And for him to go out
- 24:19Speaker 1: and do that, like set them up to be in
- 24:21Speaker 1: that game, to, to, to have a chance to win
- 24:24Speaker 1: that game. I thought that was the most impressive thing.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Some of the guys were asking me in the studio,
- 24:28Speaker 1: it was like, how long do you think he's going
- 24:29Speaker 1: to go?
- 24:29Speaker 4: Do you think he's tired? I'm like, he doesn't feel
- 24:31Speaker 4: anything today.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Like he's probably, he's probably got enough.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Great point. Yeah. He's got a couple of drugs, adrenaline.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Adrenaline, and maybe look at extra ad bill or maybe
- 24:43Speaker 1: something a little more, but he, um, He definitely, he'll
- 24:46Speaker 1: be sore tomorrow, but that was a gutsy performance from him.
- 24:49Speaker 1: No doubt.
- 24:50Speaker 4: You see why he's so dang good, man.
- 24:52Speaker 3: No doubt. How about JT Rimuto, two RBI triple on
- 24:55Speaker 3: the top of the seventh, take a 3-2 lead. Before
- 24:58Speaker 3: we hit on that, it was first and third, one out, right?
- 25:03Speaker 3: They pinch it, and they bring Crawford.
- 25:07Speaker 1: In.
- 25:07Speaker 3: I was watching that game. It's a 2-1 game saying,
- 25:11Speaker 3: they should safety squeeze here. to get that run in
- 25:14Speaker 3: and tie the game up, right? They didn't. He pops
- 25:19Speaker 3: out to shallow right. They don't get the run in,
- 25:21Speaker 3: and then JT comes up with a huge triple. He's
- 25:25Speaker 3: been struggling. He snapped an 0-for-34 streak on Sunday with
- 25:30Speaker 3: an RBI double, and then he hits the triple today.
- 25:32Speaker 3: So that's a really good sign for them, and that
- 25:34Speaker 3: was a huge moment in that game.
- 25:36Speaker 4: How about Kruke? This is what was great about the broadcast.
- 25:39Speaker 4: John Kruk. right on cues like I was.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Here yesterday and JT hit extra and every ball he
- 25:46Speaker 1: hit was to the right side of the field because
- 25:47Speaker 1: that's when he's at his best and the next pitch
- 25:50Speaker 1: freaking uh triple down the right field line to score
- 25:54Speaker 1: two and give them the lead that was like just
- 25:57Speaker 1: talking about like broadcast and doing your homework and being
- 26:00Speaker 1: around and like coming from guys that call games me
- 26:03Speaker 1: and you like When you get to do something like
- 26:06Speaker 1: that and say you, like, feel really good about, you know,
- 26:09Speaker 1: just speaking your mind in those moments. And, you know,
- 26:13Speaker 1: like you said, 0 for 34 and coming into going
- 26:16Speaker 1: into the last game of the season and gets a
- 26:19Speaker 1: one to fall, a double. And so being able to
- 26:22Speaker 1: get that big hit for them was huge. And you
- 26:24Speaker 1: thought they're on their way.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Here they are.
- 26:26Speaker 1: They'll close this thing out. And then Don Manley brings
- 26:31Speaker 1: in Duran, Duran.
- 26:32Speaker 3: Duran's the seventh.
- 26:33Speaker 4: In the seventh.
- 26:34Speaker 3: They're on in the seventh. Top of the lineup, right?
- 26:37Speaker 3: Don Manning after the game was like, yeah, top of
- 26:39Speaker 3: the lineup. That's what we said. We're going to go seventh, eighth.
- 26:42Speaker 3: But I'm not buying that. If he had a clean eighth,
- 26:45Speaker 3: he's going back out there for the ninth. And you're
- 26:47Speaker 3: blowing your closer for three innings because you need that win, right?
- 26:50Speaker 3: It's a do or die. So... You're the manager, Rossi.
- 26:57Speaker 3: You're the manager.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I kind of liked the move where he's... The thing
- 27:03Speaker 1: about the Phillies coming into this, no starters. Their bullpen's
- 27:06Speaker 1: been crap, right? And all their starters are going to
- 27:08Speaker 1: be good on the back end. They're going to get
- 27:10Speaker 1: Wheeler back, hopefully, in two days. They've got Christopher Sanchez
- 27:13Speaker 1: starting tomorrow, who's absolutely nasty. Nola, like, they've got the
- 27:18Speaker 1: pitching if they could have won today. That's why when
- 27:20Speaker 1: I predicted, I was like, the Braves in two, but
- 27:22Speaker 1: if it goes to game three, I like the Phillies,
- 27:25Speaker 1: and it all has to do with their starting pitching.
- 27:28Speaker 1: And he went for the jugular, and I got to
- 27:30Speaker 1: give him credit. Top of the line, he had a plan.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Top of the lineup.
- 27:33Speaker 4: This is the dudes.
- 27:35Speaker 1: I'm going to go with my horse and see how
- 27:38Speaker 1: it looks. And he was clean. It was dominant for
- 27:41Speaker 1: five hitters. And he got an infield single from Harris
- 27:45Speaker 1: that beat it out. And a hit by pitch with
- 27:47Speaker 1: two outs in the eighth. And Austin Riley. Austin Riley,
- 27:53Speaker 1: let's go. Why do you love the postseason? Just like
- 27:56Speaker 1: JT Riomuto. You get a free, a clear slate. Everybody's
- 28:01Speaker 1: stats are the same. what you did in the regular
- 28:04Speaker 1: season doesn't matter anymore.
- 28:06Speaker 4: Have confidence.
- 28:07Speaker 1: And Austin Riley goes in with a plan. I love
- 28:10Speaker 1: the last time he faced Duran. He, it was a
- 28:14Speaker 1: game with a game leading triple off a split finger.
- 28:19Speaker 1: They were tied four, four in Philadelphia. He hits a
- 28:21Speaker 1: triple to right center off a splitty. So knowing that
- 28:25Speaker 1: probably getting in your head and things that you've told me,
- 28:28Speaker 1: it's like, okay, I know he's not throwing me the
- 28:30Speaker 1: splitter because I hit it in the gap for a
- 28:32Speaker 1: triple last time. So I'm selling out to heater. He
- 28:35Speaker 1: sells out, doesn't try to pull off. It stays big
- 28:37Speaker 1: part of the field and a freaking three run.
- 28:40Speaker 4: Jimmy.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Hey, with that, with that game leading home run in
- 28:49Speaker 1: Braves history, he passed after the seventh inning or after me,
- 28:53Speaker 1: the stat, right?
- 28:53Speaker 4: Seventh inning or after a game leading home run. He passed.
- 28:59Speaker 1: Chipper Jones and Javi Lopez for the most in Braves history.
- 29:04Speaker 4: How cool was that?
- 29:04Speaker 1: I mean, this guy's had moments in the postseason, and
- 29:07Speaker 1: then to have the season he had and have this
- 29:08Speaker 1: happen to him, so pumped for Austin.
- 29:10Speaker 3: That was neat. I thought in the first, when he
- 29:13Speaker 3: came up his first at bat, there was a guy,
- 29:15Speaker 3: it was first and third, one out, or maybe even
- 29:20Speaker 3: one out. And I was like, wow, this is a
- 29:22Speaker 3: big moment for the Braves right now because if Austin
- 29:24Speaker 3: Riley can get this run in or get a base
- 29:27Speaker 3: hit here, His confidence to be through the roof, his
- 29:29Speaker 3: first about of the postseason. He ends up getting that
- 29:31Speaker 3: weird ball off the knob that. Oh, yeah. Way too
- 29:37Speaker 3: similar to last year's fiasco of the. pfp to home
- 29:42Speaker 3: where you think lizardo's gonna go to second then the
- 29:45Speaker 3: next thing you know he's going to home uh and
- 29:47Speaker 3: they didn't get the run so for him to come
- 29:50Speaker 3: late austin riley if this brave team wants to win
- 29:54Speaker 3: like he's he's gonna be a massive part of this
- 29:56Speaker 3: and Again, that's the beauty, like you said, Rossi. It's
- 30:00Speaker 3: all clean slate. He's been battle-tested. He's a World Series champion.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Third straight postseason, the Phillies blow a lead in the
- 30:08Speaker 1: seventh or later. I've got to call out Dave Dombrowski
- 30:12Speaker 1: didn't do jack at the deadline. This has been a problem.
- 30:16Speaker 1: This has been a problem for the Phillies, and they
- 30:18Speaker 1: didn't go get bullpen help. We were in there earlier
- 30:22Speaker 1: in the year and talking to people around there they
- 30:26Speaker 1: knew they needed bullpen help, you know, and I think
- 30:30Speaker 1: every team probably needs that. And, and I'm not a
- 30:33Speaker 1: GM and I don't, I don't make trades, but you know,
- 30:36Speaker 1: that was a big swing and miss. Sometimes the front
- 30:40Speaker 1: office can help you out a lot and they go
- 30:41Speaker 1: out and get a rise.
- 30:42Speaker 4: He's out. That definitely hurts.
- 30:44Speaker 1: But when you, when you lose and blow leads in
- 30:47Speaker 1: the post season, late in games, those are tough losses,
- 30:51Speaker 1: tough losses.
- 30:51Speaker 3: It's a gun punch. It really is. It's Bryce after
- 30:54Speaker 3: the game, it's a dagger, right? And, You want to think, okay,
- 30:58Speaker 3: get your spirits up. We have Christopher Sanchez tomorrow. But
- 31:02Speaker 3: you look at the matchups, Ozzie Albies is 9 for
- 31:06Speaker 3: 18 off him. It's 500, right? Austin Riley, 7 for 15.
- 31:11Speaker 3: He's coming off a huge high off that home run
- 31:13Speaker 3: with a home run. Matt Olsen, 6 for 23. Two
- 31:17Speaker 3: home runs. So it's not like these guys, the familiarity
- 31:20Speaker 3: with Sanchez is not going to phase this Braves lineup.
- 31:23Speaker 3: So They're going to have their hands cut out for
- 31:26Speaker 3: them tomorrow to grind out a win and force a
- 31:29Speaker 3: game three.
- 31:30Speaker 1: All right, guys, make your picks for who wins Phillies
- 31:32Speaker 1: Braves tomorrow and why. Phillies are 52% on the yes
- 31:36Speaker 1: with Christopher Sanchez throwing on the mound.
- 31:39Speaker 4: $ 100 trade can win you $ 107.
- 31:39Speaker 1: If you like the Braves, they're 49% on the yes
- 31:41Speaker 1: and Tyler Malley.
- 31:43Speaker 4: Throwing $ 100 will win you $ 197. My polymarket pick. He's
- 31:55Speaker 4: going with the Phillies.
- 31:56Speaker 3: He said.
- 31:57Speaker 4: The Phillies. Let's go.
- 31:59Speaker 1: We need a series.
- 32:00Speaker 3: I think you're crazy, Rossi. I think the Braves. I
- 32:04Speaker 3: think the Braves close it out tomorrow. I think it's
- 32:08Speaker 3: just too big of a dagger for the Phillies on
- 32:10Speaker 3: this one.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it's going to be a good one. Another good
- 32:12Speaker 1: one in Atlanta, man.
- 32:15Speaker 4: We talked Sox. It's just, this is, bro, it's the best.
- 32:19Speaker 4: I love doing this. I love doing this with you.
- 32:22Speaker 4: And talking this stuff is so much fun.
- 32:24Speaker 3: We go out west where I'll see the Petco Park
- 32:26Speaker 3: where the Padres beat our beloved Cubbies 8-0. Bro, that park.
- 32:33Speaker 3: I said it today when I was waiting to get
- 32:36Speaker 3: a ride home from Yankee Stadium. It looks like the
- 32:39Speaker 3: Padres have their complete mojo back. They're the hottest team
- 32:43Speaker 3: in baseball to close out the season. Their stars are starring.
- 32:47Speaker 3: It started from Jump Street. Fernando Tatis, leadoff homer. First
- 32:52Speaker 3: leadoff homer in Padres playoff. history right and then Manny
- 32:56Speaker 3: Machado a couple batters later with another first inning homer
- 33:00Speaker 3: where it was just like Cubs just roll in there
- 33:02Speaker 3: and just get absolutely haymakered in the first and Alexander
- 33:08Speaker 3: Bogarts hits a home run in the fourth inning all
- 33:11Speaker 3: three home runs came off Matthew Boyd's change-ups I mean
- 33:15Speaker 3: Michael King Rossi I think Michael King future Cub he's
- 33:19Speaker 3: gonna opt out of his pot I'm willing this to
- 33:21Speaker 3: happen you're.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Throwing that in the universe like.
- 33:23Speaker 3: Crazy He's a perfect fit. He's going to opt out
- 33:27Speaker 3: of his Padres deal, although it would be hard to
- 33:29Speaker 3: leave San Diego with that atmosphere. Seven innings, gave up
- 33:33Speaker 3: one hit, struck out eight.
- 33:36Speaker 1: No hitter through six. He was dominant, man. Absolutely dominant. Man,
- 33:42Speaker 1: I hadn't seen Petco rocking like that. Everybody I've talked to,
- 33:46Speaker 1: I haven't been out there in a while, everybody I've
- 33:48Speaker 1: talked to has said it's a real home field advantage now.
- 33:50Speaker 3: No doubt.
- 33:51Speaker 4: That place was packed and loud.
- 33:53Speaker 3: Loud, bro. That place is, dude, they're sneaky like the
- 33:57Speaker 3: top four or five attendants now the last three to
- 34:01Speaker 3: five years. This is a different Petco Park that you
- 34:04Speaker 3: grew up going to, right? You were probably going to Qualcomm.
- 34:06Speaker 1: I was going to Qualcomm early on.
- 34:09Speaker 3: Don't hate. That's their old stadium back in the day
- 34:12Speaker 3: where the San Diego Chargers used to play. Not only
- 34:16Speaker 3: are the San Diego Chargers not in San Diego anymore,
- 34:18Speaker 3: neither is that stadium, so.
- 34:21Speaker 4: But, Michael, we got to touch on Michael King, man.
- 34:23Speaker 1: First Padre in history with a no-hit bid of five-plus
- 34:28Speaker 1: innings in a postseason game. Like, he was locked in.
- 34:31Speaker 1: That two-seamer, he's another guy. He went to the sweeper
- 34:35Speaker 1: more than he ever has. He was absolutely dominant. Nasty stuff.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Had a great offense. I mean, the Cubs' number one
- 34:43Speaker 1: offense in all of baseball. And he made them look
- 34:46Speaker 1: like they were a team that shouldn't be in the postseason.
- 34:48Speaker 4: He was dominant.
- 34:50Speaker 3: Michael King was dominant. I mean, he's pitched in big
- 34:53Speaker 3: games before. And he's a great– I know him personally.
- 34:58Speaker 3: He works hard. Guys love him. He's confident on the mound.
- 35:01Speaker 3: He's convicted in every single pitch he throws. And what
- 35:05Speaker 3: a great way for that staff and that team and
- 35:09Speaker 3: that city to start off the series. And then I
- 35:11Speaker 3: think the coolest moment was Joe Musgrove. Surprising being added
- 35:16Speaker 3: to the series, to this roster, pitching the ninth. He
- 35:19Speaker 3: got a really massive standing ovation from the Padres, the
- 35:24Speaker 3: Friar Faithful, as they call themselves. And I thought that
- 35:28Speaker 3: was just a cool moment.
- 35:30Speaker 4: That was cool.
- 35:30Speaker 3: For him, he hasn't pitched in almost two years to
- 35:33Speaker 3: grind his way back and not give up on this
- 35:36Speaker 3: season for a moment like that.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Well, and I think that's the most impressive thing. You
- 35:42Speaker 1: come off an injury and you're working hard. so much
- 35:46Speaker 1: to watch the team perform, get to the post season,
- 35:48Speaker 1: watch everybody celebrate. And you're just continue to work. You
- 35:51Speaker 1: put in the work ethic and two years worth of,
- 35:55Speaker 1: you know, training room and rehab and minor league starts
- 35:59Speaker 1: and just trying to get yourself back. And now you're
- 36:02Speaker 1: closing out game one of the, of the wild card
- 36:05Speaker 1: series for the, for the Padres in your home park. Like, again,
- 36:09Speaker 1: I thought I'm with you. What a cool moment. for
- 36:12Speaker 1: him and the Padre faithful. Really, really cool on the
- 36:16Speaker 1: back end of a tough game for the Cubbies.
- 36:18Speaker 3: No doubt. It's just exactly like you said, a tough game,
- 36:21Speaker 3: disastrous game, honestly. It just started from the get-go. Bregman
- 36:26Speaker 3: was 0 for 4 with three punch-outs. He DH'd. PCA
- 36:30Speaker 3: struggled 0 for 3 with three strikeouts. You're two dogs, right,
- 36:34Speaker 3: with six strikeouts. And In a game like this, it's
- 36:39Speaker 3: like a goldfish, Rossi. You've got to have a short-term memory.
- 36:41Speaker 3: Turn the page, boys.
- 36:43Speaker 4: Turn the page.
- 36:45Speaker 3: You've got Nick Pavetta on the mound tomorrow. You have
- 36:47Speaker 3: Kevin Gossman, who is a big game pitcher. He pitched
- 36:50Speaker 3: in the World Series last year. He's going to get out.
- 36:53Speaker 3: The Cubs can come back, and they need to silence
- 36:57Speaker 3: that crowd early, which is going to be hard to do.
- 37:00Speaker 1: You know the other thing that stood out to me,
- 37:02Speaker 1: and you know this as well as anybody, but You
- 37:04Speaker 1: can have a great season and be the dude all
- 37:07Speaker 1: season long, but if you don't show up in the playoffs,
- 37:10Speaker 1: people are going to bury you.
- 37:11Speaker 4: You've seen it in New York.
- 37:14Speaker 1: I know tonight's cold Cubs offense was more about Michael
- 37:19Speaker 1: King than them. I don't even think they had many
- 37:22Speaker 1: hard-hit balls. I think Nico hit a couple maybe hard
- 37:26Speaker 1: ground balls that were nice plays from Cronenworth at second,
- 37:30Speaker 1: but there wasn't a whole lot of hard contact tonight.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Nick Pavetta, absolutely shoved his last start against the Dodgers.
- 37:37Speaker 4: So they got their work cut out for them.
- 37:39Speaker 1: But I would expect the Cubs offense to show up tomorrow.
- 37:43Speaker 3: We got our boy Kenny Chesney going on tour next summer, Rossi.
- 37:50Speaker 3: Perfect segment into the vibes tour on Kenny Chesney on SeatGeek.

- 39:04Speaker 4: SeatGeek.
- 39:05Speaker 1: All right, to wrap it up, let's talk to a
- 39:07Speaker 1: little White Sox Astros. Man, what another just– and you
- 39:14Speaker 1: must have seen it because you called them to win, but.
- 39:17Speaker 4: I was not expecting such quality.
- 39:19Speaker 3: No one saw it coming, Rossi.
- 39:21Speaker 4: I was not expecting.
- 39:22Speaker 1: The quality of bats that I saw from such a
- 39:25Speaker 1: young lineup.
- 39:26Speaker 4: These guys, I was paying attention.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Eight of their 11 hits were up the middle or
- 39:31Speaker 1: the other way, including Montgomery's home run to center field
- 39:35Speaker 1: was absolute bomb at, at, at what it's not minute
- 39:39Speaker 1: made anymore, but you know, at the Astros stadium.
- 39:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 39:43Speaker 1: In Houston, it was, it was, it was, it was crying.
- 39:46Speaker 1: I mean, when you go up that wall and dead
- 39:47Speaker 1: center Houston, you're doing something. And, Um, quality at bats
- 39:51Speaker 1: over and over again, controlled the strikes on, got on
- 39:54Speaker 1: base and, uh, Will Venable with how he handled that
- 39:57Speaker 1: pitching staff, just ran through those guys.
- 40:00Speaker 4: Hagan Smith starting it off with, you know, three innings.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Keeping those guys, those at bats, um, you know, at bay, uh,
- 40:09Speaker 1: six and nine, six of nine innings, the leadoff guy
- 40:13Speaker 1: was on for the White Sox. you know, that's a
- 40:15Speaker 1: winning formula for when you, when you get that lead
- 40:18Speaker 1: off guy on you, you're, you're putting pressure on the
- 40:21Speaker 1: opposing pitcher.
- 40:22Speaker 4: You're able to do a lot of things as a manager.
- 40:24Speaker 1: Like we used to talk about that, get that lead
- 40:26Speaker 1: off guy on at 16. We, we dominated when you
- 40:29Speaker 1: get that lead off guy on. So really important stat
- 40:31Speaker 1: for me. And the other one, the top four hitters
- 40:34Speaker 1: for the Astros were one for 12 until the eighth
- 40:37Speaker 1: inning when they started to get a little momentum. But
- 40:39Speaker 1: That group, the one through four for the Astros, led
- 40:42Speaker 1: all of Major League Baseball in OPS during the season.
- 40:45Speaker 1: So that's their bread and butter. If you can keep
- 40:47Speaker 1: them at bay, you got a really good chance to win.
- 40:50Speaker 1: And I thought the White Sox looked really good for
- 40:52Speaker 1: a young group handling their first postseason.
- 40:55Speaker 3: No doubt. And say what you want about both teams
- 40:58Speaker 3: and how they got in and the records and first
- 41:02Speaker 3: playoff game in history of both teams going an opener
- 41:05Speaker 3: in the first game. But Will Venable, man, he... He
- 41:10Speaker 3: was the right calls all day. And he was calm.
- 41:14Speaker 3: And people forget he was under Bruce Bochy for a
- 41:18Speaker 3: few years in Texas and won a World Series with him.
- 41:21Speaker 3: So he saw how one of the best to ever
- 41:24Speaker 3: do it managed. And Will is so smart. He went
- 41:27Speaker 3: to school at Princeton. He had a great major league career.
- 41:30Speaker 3: He's a great person. So it couldn't be happier for him.
- 41:33Speaker 3: And also Colson Montgomery. He's moved down to the nine hole.
- 41:39Speaker 3: He's struggling bad. He sets the single season strikeout record.
- 41:43Speaker 3: He has 31 home runs on the year, and he
- 41:45Speaker 3: hits a bomb out of the nine hole, right? And
- 41:50Speaker 3: these are the things for this White Sox. That's why
- 41:52Speaker 3: I said it. I think this team is so close
- 41:55Speaker 3: that when you're that close, it can get you farther
- 41:59Speaker 3: than talent, right? They may not be more talented than
- 42:02Speaker 3: the Houston Astros, but it just looks like this team
- 42:05Speaker 3: loves each other.
- 42:06Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know, young guys with nothing to lose,
- 42:10Speaker 1: and it felt like that today. These guys just went
- 42:13Speaker 1: out and played baseball. The one thing that I think,
- 42:17Speaker 1: we talked a little bit about Mattingly going to Duran
- 42:21Speaker 1: for multiple innings. Will Venable went to Grant Taylor for
- 42:26Speaker 1: two innings, and he had to work really hard. I mean,
- 42:30Speaker 1: 54 pitches, a career high. He's spent for tomorrow, so
- 42:35Speaker 1: That's their horse at the back end.
- 42:37Speaker 4: And he had to earn it.
- 42:39Speaker 1: Against the Houston Astros today. But I'm career high of
- 42:43Speaker 1: 40 before that.
- 42:44Speaker 4: So he was stretched.
- 42:45Speaker 1: Pretty long today to lock down that win. And Will
- 42:49Speaker 1: Venable said after the game, we don't know about tomorrow's star.
- 42:51Speaker 1: We're just going to go out and get this W.
- 42:53Speaker 1: So I think they're starting Sean Burke, they said, came.
- 42:56Speaker 4: Out a little bit later.
- 42:57Speaker 1: But a really cool win for the White Sox. It's
- 43:00Speaker 1: been a while since they've won a postseason game. Coming
- 43:03Speaker 1: off multiple wins. 100 lost seasons and to win your
- 43:06Speaker 1: first postseason series for a.
- 43:08Speaker 4: Lot of young guys.
- 43:09Speaker 3: On the road. On the road, yeah. In Houston.
- 43:12Speaker 4: With the veteran presence that those guys have, yeah.
- 43:15Speaker 3: No doubt. And tomorrow is going to be a tough test.
- 43:18Speaker 3: I mean, the Astros have Hunter Brown on the mound.
- 43:20Speaker 3: White Sox are kind of with Sean Burke. So, but again,
- 43:23Speaker 3: it's an elimination game, right? If someone bridges, if Morikami
- 43:27Speaker 3: bridges Hunter Brown early, it's a lot of pressure on
- 43:30Speaker 3: the Houston Astros. So, it, uh, I got the White
- 43:38Speaker 3: Sox winning tomorrow. I actually, Rossi, this is a crazy prediction.
- 43:42Speaker 3: I think every series is closed out tomorrow.
- 43:46Speaker 4: Well, yeah. Well, that's crazy.
- 43:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I got Houston winning tomorrow. Some little bit of
- 43:53Speaker 1: off-the-field drama. Some guys were upset with the boos they got, too.
- 43:57Speaker 1: I mean, they were not happy with the Astros fans.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Are the Astros fans a little spoiled?
- 44:05Speaker 4: They've been to the postseason a lot.
- 44:07Speaker 3: They've got high expectations. Hold on.
- 44:09Speaker 4: I'm just asking.
- 44:10Speaker 3: Are the Astros players spoiled? Rossi, I played in New York.
- 44:14Speaker 3: You played in Boston. We played in Chicago where they
- 44:18Speaker 3: don't boo you as much. But, dude, these fans want
- 44:22Speaker 3: to see. They pay a lot of money to come
- 44:24Speaker 3: to see clean baseball. It's a bunch of pass balls,
- 44:27Speaker 3: a little bit of a sloppy game in Houston. I
- 44:29Speaker 3: understand where the players are coming. What they're saying is
- 44:32Speaker 3: not wrong.
- 44:34Speaker 4: No, they're right.
- 44:35Speaker 3: But you don't, you just, as a professional, it's probably
- 44:39Speaker 3: one of those things in the media relations class that
- 44:40Speaker 3: you take that you just don't say because you're just
- 44:43Speaker 3: adding fuel to a fire, right?
- 44:45Speaker 1: Well, what worries me, them going forward, if that's actually
- 44:48Speaker 1: in their head. You know, I thought Schwarber's quote at
- 44:50Speaker 1: the end of their game was like, we can play
- 44:53Speaker 1: what-ifs already, but we can what-if out the door, but
- 44:55Speaker 1: when we come in here tomorrow, it's all hands on deck,
- 44:58Speaker 1: time to go back to work.
- 44:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean. That's all it's about.
- 45:01Speaker 4: It's about tomorrow now.
- 45:02Speaker 1: Once you lose, especially in postseason, flush it as fast
- 45:04Speaker 1: as you can, take your 15, 20 minutes, be pissed off,
- 45:08Speaker 1: and then let's go tomorrow. Like, tomorrow's the day we
- 45:10Speaker 1: get hot and raw. I mean, we were down 3-1.
- 45:13Speaker 4: We know a little bit about that.
- 45:15Speaker 3: No doubt. No doubt. Yeah, it's never over until it's over.
- 45:19Speaker 3: Speaking of that, Rossi, listen to this. Today, on the
- 45:23Speaker 3: Today Show, Sylvester Stallone was there.
- 45:27Speaker 1: Sick.
- 45:27Speaker 4: Rocky.
- 45:28Speaker 3: Okay.
- 45:30Speaker 1: Did you?
- 45:30Speaker 3: Bro, I froze. He was on before me, and he
- 45:35Speaker 3: was done with his hit, and I was outside in
- 45:37Speaker 3: the plaza, and he walked right by me. And I
- 45:41Speaker 3: was like, and I just froze, and he walked by me.
- 45:43Speaker 3: I was like, no, come back. I need to tell
- 45:46Speaker 3: you my dancing stories.
- 45:47Speaker 4: I've got a story to tell you.
- 45:49Speaker 3: That's so great. You saved the 108-year curse.
- 45:53Speaker 4: That's so great. I love that.
- 45:55Speaker 3: All right, let's get into some ball bags. Let's get
- 45:58Speaker 3: into our question. This is our Tim Buss question. daily
- 46:03Speaker 3: ball bag now where we take questions from our fans,
- 46:06Speaker 3: our favorite part. We'll be doing this all playoffs, every show.
- 46:10Speaker 3: Submit your questions to our socials, to YouTube, or you
- 46:14Speaker 3: can email rossandrizzo at gmail.com. First emails from Matt, which
- 46:18Speaker 3: is right on cue where we were just talking about
- 46:20Speaker 3: with fans. With Tony, that's me, playing in New York
- 46:24Speaker 3: and Rossi in Boston, those fan bases seem like a
- 46:27Speaker 3: polar opposites to the Cubs. I know all I know
- 46:31Speaker 3: that all are passionate, but Cubs fans are clearly more
- 46:35Speaker 3: positive and less likely to boo a struggling player. My
- 46:38Speaker 3: question is, does the positivity motivate you more than the
- 46:42Speaker 3: fear of being booed? Or are you able to tune
- 46:45Speaker 3: out the boos?
- 46:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I hear, I think you hear the boos, like
- 46:50Speaker 1: it sucks to get boos because you already know when
- 46:53Speaker 1: you're getting booed, you're playing like shit. So you're like,
- 46:56Speaker 1: no duh. Like, yeah, I know I suck or we
- 46:59Speaker 1: suck at the time. So it does, it definitely doesn't help.
- 47:02Speaker 1: And it sucks getting booed.
- 47:04Speaker 4: I got, I got booed.
- 47:05Speaker 1: I got pinch hit for, or sorry, they traded Paula
- 47:10Speaker 1: Duca when I was in L.A., And I was struggling.
- 47:14Speaker 4: I stunk.
- 47:15Speaker 1: But they traded Paul LaDuca. We were going to the
- 47:17Speaker 1: postseason to pick up Steve Finley in center field. And
- 47:21Speaker 1: it's like every time I thought my name had changed
- 47:25Speaker 1: to David Boo.
- 47:26Speaker 4: Because every time I said.
- 47:27Speaker 1: Now batting David, it's like Boo!
- 47:30Speaker 4: He sucked!
- 47:31Speaker 1: I was like, Jesus, I didn't trade the guy. You know,
- 47:33Speaker 1: I'm trying my best. So, you know, that does suck.
- 47:38Speaker 1: But it also, like you said, fans have a right
- 47:40Speaker 1: to do their thing. And I thought like when I
- 47:43Speaker 1: was in Boston to this, to Matt's point, I didn't
- 47:49Speaker 1: want to be the reason to fail. That fan base
- 47:51Speaker 1: was so, they had a lot of baseball knowledge and
- 47:54Speaker 1: they had high expectations. And so like my fear of,
- 47:58Speaker 1: it's not going to be me that lets the team
- 47:59Speaker 1: down today, you know? So that's how I carried it
- 48:01Speaker 1: a little bit. So it took my game up a
- 48:03Speaker 1: little bit later.
- 48:04Speaker 4: In my career.
- 48:05Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, playing in Chicago, the fans there are
- 48:09Speaker 3: always behind you. Very rarely do they boo. Maybe if
- 48:12Speaker 3: it's a few, bad bonehead plays that happen maybe you'll
- 48:16Speaker 3: hear that or if you don't hustle but they just
- 48:18Speaker 3: like good clean base good baseball in new york now
- 48:23Speaker 3: is on the other hand it's funny because i was
- 48:26Speaker 3: in new york i'd have multiple players pissed off at
- 48:29Speaker 3: me saying i i always said i'm unbovable because i
- 48:32Speaker 3: never got booed in new york which was awesome Like,
- 48:35Speaker 3: I rarely, if anything, got booed in New York, right?
- 48:38Speaker 1: They said you were a made man in New York.
- 48:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, the Italian last name. I don't know,
- 48:43Speaker 3: you know? Me and the Yankees fans have a special connection.
- 48:47Speaker 3: I love them. But they're passionate, man. And I feel
- 48:53Speaker 3: like that passion sometimes turns into anger where they start
- 48:59Speaker 3: booing for the wrong reasons. Like, if the team's not hitting...
- 49:03Speaker 3: And they're out there and they're playing clean baseball and
- 49:05Speaker 3: you're getting booed right away. That wears on you, right?
- 49:09Speaker 3: It does. It 100% wears on you as a player.
- 49:13Speaker 3: But again, this is what we signed up for, right? So,
- 49:17Speaker 3: there's not a lot of sympathy for guys in Houston
- 49:21Speaker 3: that are saying, oh, we need our home fans. Like,
- 49:24Speaker 3: go play in New York, dude. You know what I mean?
- 49:26Speaker 3: Go play in Boston. Go play in these big markets
- 49:28Speaker 3: where they will beat you up. Philly. Are you kidding me?
- 49:31Speaker 3: You say that in Philly? You probably don't even make
- 49:33Speaker 3: it to the stadium the next day.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Well, the one thing I would tell fans or encourage
- 49:37Speaker 1: fans is like, remember when Trey Turner, they just started
- 49:41Speaker 1: cheering him and it turned his season around. If you
- 49:44Speaker 1: want to help, you can be mad and you can
- 49:46Speaker 1: boo if that's your choice, but if you want to help,
- 49:49Speaker 1: if you want to help me, try to find the
- 49:51Speaker 1: positive and be loud and cheer somehow. Find something positive
- 49:55Speaker 1: because that's the.
- 49:56Speaker 4: Only thing that helps.
- 49:57Speaker 1: Fans have more, they can help so much with their
- 50:00Speaker 1: energy and their positivity and their cheering, the momentum that
- 50:04Speaker 1: you feel from that when they're all behind you. And yeah,
- 50:06Speaker 1: that's usually when things are going good, but if you
- 50:09Speaker 1: can find some way to cheer when things aren't going
- 50:13Speaker 1: your way, you know, like.
- 50:14Speaker 4: Guys are busting it.
- 50:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:16Speaker 4: It can help.
- 50:17Speaker 3: It can help.
- 50:18Speaker 4: That's all I would say.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:19Speaker 3: I mean, there, it is like, it is true. Sometimes
- 50:22Speaker 3: you just need to get away from your home crowd
- 50:23Speaker 3: for a little bit. Even in Chicago, we would say
- 50:25Speaker 3: we just need to get on the road and just
- 50:27Speaker 3: get out of Wrigley. We got a Yankee stadium, but
- 50:30Speaker 3: the fans drive the game and I love interacting with them.
- 50:34Speaker 3: And it's part of the game to get booed. It's, it's,
- 50:36Speaker 3: That's the beauty of this game. You go to these
- 50:38Speaker 3: certain parks and you know what I mean? It's you,
- 50:41Speaker 3: you better be ready. You better bring it. You know
- 50:44Speaker 3: what I mean? All right.
- 50:46Speaker 1: Another email here from Matt McAuley. What will it take
- 50:49Speaker 1: for the Sox to advance with such a limited pitching staff?
- 50:53Speaker 1: Also Rizzo, how tough was it facing Josh Hader as
- 50:57Speaker 1: much as you did?
- 51:00Speaker 3: I mean, it's, I think that the Sox can advance, uh,
- 51:04Speaker 3: To the ALCS. I really realistically think that because their
- 51:10Speaker 3: familiarity with who's waiting for them is the Cleveland Guardians.
- 51:13Speaker 3: And that's a crapshoot because they play each other so
- 51:16Speaker 3: many times. So there's so much familiarity there. Their staff
- 51:20Speaker 3: isn't built for a seven-game series. They can win a
- 51:24Speaker 3: five-game series, especially in the American League because they play, off, play, off, play, play.
- 51:29Speaker 3: So game one and two, there's off days in between
- 51:32Speaker 3: them and three. Yeah, look, their run isn't going to
- 51:40Speaker 3: end with them winning the World Series. I just don't
- 51:42Speaker 3: think that. But enjoy the ride if you're a White
- 51:45Speaker 3: Sox fan. Enjoy postseason baseball back in Chicago on the
- 51:49Speaker 3: south side.
- 51:51Speaker 1: And we haven't seen, we also have not seen, talking about, Uh,
- 51:58Speaker 1: the socks.
- 51:58Speaker 4: Oh, I thought they were talking about the red socks. Sorry.
- 52:01Speaker 4: The limited staff, the white socks. Okay.
- 52:03Speaker 1: I was going to say, we hadn't seen crochet yet.
- 52:05Speaker 3: I was like, Oh yeah. Well, they're stacked. And then
- 52:07Speaker 3: facing hater, you know, for, I had good at baths
- 52:12Speaker 3: off hater. It was always a fun matchup and he
- 52:15Speaker 3: had the best of me. I was three for 14
- 52:17Speaker 3: off home. I had a home run off home, which
- 52:20Speaker 3: is one of my better home runs in my career
- 52:23Speaker 3: off Josh hater. Cause he's just nasty.
- 52:26Speaker 4: I think I remember that in Milwaukee, right?
- 52:28Speaker 3: In Milwaukee. We ended up losing the game.
- 52:30Speaker 4: You walked four times.
- 52:31Speaker 3: Yeah. It was always good at bats. And I remember
- 52:35Speaker 3: seeing something, him saying something about that in an interview
- 52:38Speaker 3: one time. And I loved it because I feel like
- 52:41Speaker 3: every time we face each other, it was just, it
- 52:45Speaker 3: was so dialed up. And it was like a mutual respect.
- 52:48Speaker 3: So he's one of the best to do it and
- 52:50Speaker 3: he'll be fresh to go tomorrow. So that's going to be,
- 52:54Speaker 3: that might be the one series that goes to game three.
- 52:57Speaker 4: Okay.
- 52:58Speaker 3: All right. All right.
- 52:59Speaker 1: Email from Nolan Kramus, Krams, Krams, Krams.
- 53:04Speaker 4: What, what question?
- 53:06Speaker 1: Uh, my question is what's the feeling of getting to
- 53:09Speaker 1: see your parents for the first time after becoming a
- 53:11Speaker 1: world series champ?
- 53:16Speaker 3: I mean, every series it builds and you get excited
- 53:21Speaker 3: and your parents are with you and your spouse, your
- 53:24Speaker 3: wife and your girlfriends and your, fiance's or whoever it is,
- 53:28Speaker 3: every series, you just get closer and closer and you
- 53:31Speaker 3: win the world series. For me, my mom and dad was,
- 53:34Speaker 3: it was just emotional, right? You go back to all
- 53:40Speaker 3: the little league days and the travel days and playing
- 53:44Speaker 3: catch in the backyard with your mom and dad and
- 53:47Speaker 3: just everything that got you to that point. And they
- 53:50Speaker 3: were my rocks for me. So, well, it was, it
- 53:54Speaker 3: was awesome.
- 53:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:55Speaker 1: And when you like, I put myself like now that
- 53:58Speaker 1: we're dads, like you imagine your son winning the world
- 54:02Speaker 1: series and be able to watch them on that journey
- 54:04Speaker 1: and what you watch their whole life turn into.
- 54:06Speaker 4: Like they're there.
- 54:08Speaker 1: You don't get, I think you get proud of yourself
- 54:11Speaker 1: at small moments throughout your career.
- 54:14Speaker 4: Like that was fun or that was cool. I did that.
- 54:16Speaker 1: But when my kids do something cool, I don't care
- 54:19Speaker 1: if it's like an 11 year old middle school volleyball game.
- 54:21Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, you know, I'm like raging. So you're
- 54:25Speaker 1: so proud. And then, My favorite line to my wife
- 54:29Speaker 1: after we won for the first time when I was married,
- 54:31Speaker 1: I was like, what's it like to make out with
- 54:33Speaker 1: a world champ?
- 54:35Speaker 3: Is that what you said, make out?
- 54:37Speaker 4: Well, I didn't say make out.
- 54:38Speaker 3: I was like, I don't know. Yeah. All right. Too much. TMI.
- 54:42Speaker 4: TMI.
- 54:43Speaker 3: I have a funny story. My dad used to always
- 54:47Speaker 3: hand out my baseball cards. From when I got drafted
- 54:50Speaker 3: to the Red Sox, he'd come and just hand out
- 54:52Speaker 3: my cards, and I'm to everyone. And then I'd be signing.
- 54:55Speaker 3: I'm like, dad, can you please stop everywhere? We go,
- 54:58Speaker 3: we go to Italy. He's got pictures of me and
- 55:00Speaker 3: handing them out. So it would always just kind of
- 55:03Speaker 3: drive me crazy. And he, I know it was because
- 55:05Speaker 3: he was proud and Anthony jr. Turned one in June.
- 55:10Speaker 3: And we had, uh, Emily had rookie of the year,
- 55:13Speaker 3: baseball cards made up. And I couldn't wait to give
- 55:17Speaker 3: my first baseball card to my dad. Right.
- 55:20Speaker 4: Your sons.
- 55:21Speaker 3: That's yeah. And even give them out to people. I've
- 55:24Speaker 3: showed you it. So it's just now being a dad
- 55:28Speaker 3: and seeing just how proud parents they probably were and
- 55:34Speaker 3: always have supported me. It's the best feeling in the world.
- 55:37Speaker 4: Great question.
- 55:38Speaker 3: Great questions. Keep them coming. Thank you, everyone, for watching
- 55:41Speaker 3: and listening. We'll be back tomorrow breaking down all the
- 55:46Speaker 3: Game 2 games, reactions, drama. Big moments. Highlights. Lowlights. All
- 55:55Speaker 3: of it. Coming to you. Ross and Rizzo on Filtered.
- 55:58Speaker 3: We'll see you tomorrow. Peace!
