- 1:26Speaker 1: I glad to have you at the first Writers Round
- 1:29Speaker 1: Table of twenty twenty six. This is the last time
- 1:32Speaker 1: we'll be able to say this.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Have you?
- 1:35Speaker 5: Have you thought about that the last time?
- 1:37Speaker 1: The first Writer's round Table of twenty twenty six.
- 1:40Speaker 5: Wow, I wasn't paying attention.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Well that's okay, I know we don't expect you to
- 1:45Speaker 1: pay attention. Yeah, I mean I feel like we ought to. Yeah,
- 1:49Speaker 1: maybe you guys need to step up your game a
- 1:51Speaker 1: little bit.
- 1:52Speaker 6: Yeah, absolutely, that means I would have one at some point.
- 1:56Speaker 5: Forget it.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I mean we haven't talked in a while.
- 1:58Speaker 5: I know we're thinking about just seeing that. There's been
- 2:01Speaker 5: a lot of stuff.
- 2:02Speaker 1: To talk about, the whole new coaching staff, half a
- 2:07Speaker 1: new roster, evamp.
- 2:09Speaker 5: It's right.
- 2:10Speaker 6: We live in an era where things change so rapid quickly.
- 2:12Speaker 6: I mean it is amazing. I mean, you've got a
- 2:15Speaker 6: team playing, you got teams playing for a national championship.
- 2:18Speaker 6: There are two victories away and they're forming next year's team.
- 2:21Speaker 6: They're they're going out and buying pay players right now
- 2:24Speaker 6: to make sure that they have a chance to win
- 2:26Speaker 6: next year.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Well, I mean we've said it, but it has to change.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I mean, there's got to be a change in the calendar.
- 2:32Speaker 3: I mean it's ridiculous.
- 2:33Speaker 5: It is.
- 2:34Speaker 3: I mean, it's you know, the whole thing about not coaching.
- 2:38Speaker 3: You know, Lane Kiffin and and you know, if there
- 2:41Speaker 3: was a different timetable, he could have waited to announce that.
- 2:45Speaker 3: I mean, l s U. He probably wouldn't have to
- 2:47Speaker 3: go on those interviews right right at that time, right,
- 2:50Speaker 3: and so you finished the season and then you know,
- 2:52Speaker 3: if you still want to go.
- 2:54Speaker 1: That's how the NFL does. I'm no fan of the NFL,
- 2:57Speaker 1: but they make it work.
- 2:58Speaker 3: That's the right.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Way do it, no doubt.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Until the season's over and players.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Aren't leaving in the middle of the season. You can't
- 3:05Speaker 1: do that.
- 3:05Speaker 3: No, And you got people going in the portal who
- 3:09Speaker 3: are playing in these eight thousand Yeah.
- 3:12Speaker 5: You can come back if you can make a better
- 3:14Speaker 5: deal for them, you.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Come out of the I read an article that and
- 3:19Speaker 1: I don't know the percentage, but if there's eight thousand
- 3:24Speaker 1: somewhere between fifteen hundred and two thousand of these kids.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Their major college football careers are over. They're not going
- 3:33Speaker 1: to go anywhere. They can go to a smaller school,
- 3:37Speaker 1: but they ain't getting the glory.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Well, I think all eight thousand probably think they're going
- 3:42Speaker 3: to get a better position.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Well, of course they do it.
- 3:43Speaker 5: They wouldn't have done that.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Their agent told them that it's just like pro football,
- 3:47Speaker 1: that part's just like pro football.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Well, I'd say that pro football is better because at
- 3:51Speaker 3: least you got contracts that you can't go anywhere you
- 3:54Speaker 3: do have contracts unless you get traded.
- 3:56Speaker 1: I just met the agent pumping the kid up, going, hey,
- 3:59Speaker 1: you're this much that they in you this much.
- 4:02Speaker 3: They got to make their cut.
- 4:03Speaker 1: They have to make their cut.
- 4:04Speaker 7: YEP.
- 4:05Speaker 6: It will change because college football does kind of mirror NFL.
- 4:09Speaker 6: We see all the changes that the safety, the kicking,
- 4:12Speaker 6: all this, and eventually they'll realize they got have a
- 4:15Speaker 6: salary cap.
- 4:15Speaker 5: You can't. You can't have the wild wild West. You
- 4:18Speaker 5: think about it.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Well, and what is this alleged twenty point five million
- 4:21Speaker 3: salary cap? You know, I know, how do you I've
- 4:24Speaker 3: heard that so often, but how do you legilate that.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 4:27Speaker 3: I don't know either.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I mean, it doesn't seem to affect anybody, No, it doesn't.
- 4:31Speaker 3: It seems like everybody's still getting whatever they want. That's
- 4:34Speaker 3: twenty four to five million across all sports, right, It's
- 4:37Speaker 3: like there's no way. I mean no, I mean, I know,
- 4:40Speaker 3: as thirteen more five million on a basketball team this year,
- 4:45Speaker 3: up from four point five the year year before.
- 4:47Speaker 6: And my understanding is the animal play more for their
- 4:49Speaker 6: football team next year. It's just nothing goes.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Down right in life.
- 4:52Speaker 5: You know, you want more. More costs, more, costs more.
- 4:56Speaker 1: So you were saying, see you heard me ranting about
- 4:58Speaker 1: Friday night football, the Alabama Indiana game, the Alabama the
- 5:04Speaker 1: Oklahoma the first round, the first.
- 5:06Speaker 6: Round Alabama, you asked about playing on Friday night at Oklahoma.
- 5:10Speaker 6: Alabama was nine point nine million, and I forget the
- 5:13Speaker 6: fat figures. Maybe it was twenty two point eight sticks
- 5:16Speaker 6: in my mind. But Indiana played in the in the
- 5:20Speaker 6: in the in the quarterfinals. They played, as a matter
- 5:24Speaker 6: of I forgot the game already.
- 5:26Speaker 8: Which was Alabama Alabama point eight and as the most
- 5:31Speaker 8: any of the playoff games thus far in college football
- 5:34Speaker 8: in this deal, and you think about that twenty two
- 5:36Speaker 8: point eight, it was eight or nine million.
- 5:38Speaker 1: That's a lot.
- 5:39Speaker 5: That's a lot. And you knew Alabama.
- 5:42Speaker 6: But I'm saying, Indiana, Indiana, if you arrive, if you
- 5:45Speaker 6: do it this year, everybody's watching you.
- 5:48Speaker 5: And college football is just never been better as far
- 5:52Speaker 5: as that's concerned.
- 5:53Speaker 1: And I'm looking at the well or more popular. I'm
- 5:56Speaker 1: looking at the quarterbacks that are left stand Okay, three
- 6:02Speaker 1: of them are just lights out right now. Uh Chamblis
- 6:07Speaker 1: is lights out, Dante more is lights out at Oregon,
- 6:11Speaker 1: and of course Fernando is lights out at Indiana.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Had two incompletions in Roselt. I mean.
- 6:18Speaker 1: That all year. Yeah, you know, I'm doing my only
- 6:20Speaker 1: Carson Beck, who who threw for like one hundred and
- 6:23Speaker 1: thirty eight yards, that's his game.
- 6:25Speaker 5: I get it. He's managing correct.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Check secould have taken him in a heartbeat.
- 6:31Speaker 6: Because that It's interesting when you look at Beck. What
- 6:37Speaker 6: I'm saying is Beck's steel ranks in the top ten
- 6:41Speaker 6: in the nation in passing efficiency because he doesn't beat
- 6:44Speaker 6: his team, he's not turning it over and that's what
- 6:46Speaker 6: That's why you get a fifty year senior that he
- 6:49Speaker 6: realized the team I want.
- 6:50Speaker 9: To go on.
- 6:51Speaker 3: That was the difference in n and Marcel did.
- 6:56Speaker 5: And when you look the four people, what do they
- 6:58Speaker 5: have in common?
- 6:59Speaker 6: Uh, they protect the football, They're very efficient, and I
- 7:03Speaker 6: think more they all started somewhere else too. And it's like,
- 7:06Speaker 6: we have this error where you go out and buy
- 7:08Speaker 6: quarter you gotta have a quarterback. Here's my deal is
- 7:11Speaker 6: when I've seen you got a quarterback, gut play defense
- 7:14Speaker 6: and you guys were laughing.
- 7:16Speaker 5: Think about Tech if they had a quarterback.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that was awful.
- 7:20Speaker 1: The rest that was that was my problem within the
- 7:22Speaker 1: whole year, right, Yeah.
- 7:22Speaker 5: You're right, You're right, you said that.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Yeah, well they gotta be sitting there going, how did
- 7:26Speaker 3: James Madison score that many points against the Oregon and
- 7:29Speaker 3: we get shut out? Yeah, let'score thirty four points against
- 7:32Speaker 3: Oregon and.
- 7:33Speaker 5: Five hundred yards of offense. Yeah. That was painful to
- 7:35Speaker 5: watch Tech play.
- 7:36Speaker 3: It really was. And it was like, my gosh, I
- 7:39Speaker 3: thought Marcella had an awful playoff game, but he was
- 7:42Speaker 3: a lot better than that text Tech kid.
- 7:44Speaker 6: Oh man, I felt for the whole team when I
- 7:47Speaker 6: forget his name right now, that's he was just and
- 7:49Speaker 6: he was bad in the Big twelve, Big twelve.
- 7:51Speaker 5: Bar Martin Morton.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, you know, he wasn't wasn't good.
- 7:54Speaker 6: Then everybody said, oh they lost to Arizona State, that
- 7:57Speaker 6: you're missing your quarterback. And I'm going, well, maybe that
- 7:59Speaker 6: would have a good thing. What I saw in those
- 8:01Speaker 6: two games.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you got to have a quarterback. And I'll
- 8:04Speaker 3: tell you that these like you say, three of them.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Cody Campbell knows that, and he went out rode a
- 8:09Speaker 1: five million dollar check.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Sawid well once again.
- 8:12Speaker 5: Is here's here's what I might be wrong, guys.
- 8:15Speaker 6: But I'm thinking, like the Kansas States, the word, even
- 8:18Speaker 6: the Wisconsins, the Baylors, whatever, they're gonna eventually have a
- 8:22Speaker 6: salary cap because those people have no chance, even like
- 8:25Speaker 6: a Wisconsin there's no chance to me to win a
- 8:27Speaker 6: national championship because you can't keep.
- 8:29Speaker 5: Up with these this money.
- 8:31Speaker 1: But the other thing I was thinking about is it's
- 8:34Speaker 1: it's in basketball we're going to see is this is
- 8:37Speaker 1: the same way, right, because you look at today's top
- 8:40Speaker 1: twenty five and you've got to just like in football,
- 8:44Speaker 1: you've got a Vanderbilt team that's undefeated, right, you have Nebraska,
- 8:51Speaker 1: which is undefeated. You have BYU, which has some history
- 8:59Speaker 1: but spent a lot of money.
- 9:00Speaker 5: Okay, Georgia bet Auburn.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Georgia has apparently spent some money at thirteen and one.
- 9:07Speaker 1: And you know, you look at SMU is now in
- 9:12Speaker 1: the top twenty five. UCF which we saw here and
- 9:16Speaker 1: is looking like a better loss every week. They're twelve
- 9:19Speaker 1: and one. You have these teams that traditionally aren't basketball powers.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Now you still have the powers there. It's like college football.
- 9:30Speaker 1: You know, Ole Miss and Indiana don't belong the last
- 9:36Speaker 1: thirty years, Miami hasn't belonged. Now. Oregon is the only
- 9:40Speaker 1: one of those four that have been consistently good over
- 9:44Speaker 1: a long stretch of time. But my thing is, somebody
- 9:49Speaker 1: else is going to go out and find a Fernando
- 9:52Speaker 1: Mendoza this year. We don't know who it is, we
- 9:55Speaker 1: don't know what team it is, but that team is
- 9:59Speaker 1: going to be hard to be.
- 10:01Speaker 3: I love Mendoza's preparation. I mean the story about him
- 10:05Speaker 3: winning all the pictures of the perhaps Heisman winners so
- 10:09Speaker 3: that you can memorize their faces and the name.
- 10:11Speaker 5: Pretty impressive.
- 10:12Speaker 3: That was I meanmates, his teammates before he even got there. Yes,
- 10:16Speaker 3: that is in your eyes.
- 10:18Speaker 6: And when I want to listen to the same deal.
- 10:22Speaker 6: What jumped out to me though about that was there
- 10:25Speaker 6: we live in Mendoza. Is only taking online classes, so
- 10:30Speaker 6: he's not really a student. He's a full time football player.
- 10:35Speaker 6: So if he if he spends that much time just
- 10:37Speaker 6: getting to know the former Heisman winners and his teammates,
- 10:41Speaker 6: how much has he studied play?
- 10:42Speaker 3: They're all going to be full time football players, but.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Most of them are. I would love to know the person.
- 10:47Speaker 6: And when you said he missed two two throws, how
- 10:51Speaker 6: much preparation has he done?
- 10:52Speaker 5: Because he's not a student. He is a student.
- 10:56Speaker 1: He is, no doubt, like like an NFL quarterback, right,
- 11:00Speaker 1: just like an NFL courts.
- 11:01Speaker 3: Except unlike Johnny Manziel when he was in the NFL,
- 11:03Speaker 3: right zero.
- 11:05Speaker 10: You had to throw that out, didn't reality bring us
- 11:11Speaker 10: all town. That's impressively right. I jumped on a go wow,
- 11:15Speaker 10: that guy studying.
- 11:16Speaker 1: And I think we've mentioned this here before. You haven't
- 11:19Speaker 1: heard the term student athlete, and I don't know how
- 11:21Speaker 1: long there there is no pretense that that education is involved.
- 11:27Speaker 6: Okay, get you when you touched on about basketball, brought
- 11:30Speaker 6: up another interesting thing. You talked to different people. I
- 11:32Speaker 6: was talking to somebody at a and M works there
- 11:35Speaker 6: not way up, but he brought he brought up a
- 11:37Speaker 6: good point. He said, you take all these sports, volleyball, softball, whatever.
- 11:42Speaker 6: He didn't mention basketball. But if you want to win
- 11:46Speaker 6: and you've got donors that want to go and play,
- 11:48Speaker 6: you know, if you want to have the best tennis
- 11:50Speaker 6: team in the country at Wisconsin, you got somebody, you
- 11:54Speaker 6: can do it. You can go out and buy. But
- 11:55Speaker 6: do you want to do that?
- 11:57Speaker 9: You know?
- 11:57Speaker 6: And once again, how do you want to spend your money?
- 11:59Speaker 6: And it's amazing because if you get someone to foot.
- 12:03Speaker 3: The bill and it was spent very wisely.
- 12:04Speaker 1: In volleyball, that's all absolutely okay. They're talking about buying players,
- 12:12Speaker 1: but you've got to have somebody to coach.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Jamie Morrison is obviously a well prepared guy, and.
- 12:16Speaker 1: I would argue in this day and age, coaching is
- 12:21Speaker 1: even more important because you're getting new guys every year
- 12:26Speaker 1: on the roster.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Well to that point, I just love to hear his
- 12:29Speaker 3: pregame speeches to the to the ladies there, like, hey,
- 12:33Speaker 3: you know, entering the Nebraska game or the match, and
- 12:36Speaker 3: he was just like, look, they're really good. They're unbeaten here,
- 12:40Speaker 3: but we're not afraid of them. We're not intimidated. This
- 12:42Speaker 3: is why we came this far. Our season ended here
- 12:45Speaker 3: last year. It's not gonna end this. I just he
- 12:48Speaker 3: just gets them so mentally prepared. I think I'll go back.
- 12:51Speaker 6: To what he said, I'll say one thousand, because you
- 12:54Speaker 6: do have to deal with agents, you have to deal
- 12:56Speaker 6: with a general manager. These guys when I laugh when
- 12:59Speaker 6: I see these and these two or three guys that
- 13:02Speaker 6: this reductive third stop in three years, I mean, you've
- 13:04Speaker 6: got to be able to handle a guy like that.
- 13:06Speaker 5: To get the most on them.
- 13:08Speaker 6: And I get it, he's getting paid, but we all
- 13:10Speaker 6: know there are a lot of businesses where people are
- 13:12Speaker 6: getting paid in business besides sports, and they're not doing
- 13:15Speaker 6: their job. How do you get the most out of
- 13:17Speaker 6: these athletes. It's it's tougher than it's ever been.
- 13:20Speaker 9: I think.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I think so too. I think there's just a lot
- 13:22Speaker 1: more on their plate.
- 13:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, right, you could have the right it is.
- 13:25Speaker 6: I watch every assistant coaches. You gonna bring in the
- 13:28Speaker 6: right assistance because you're gonna go out. You've got to
- 13:30Speaker 6: get the most out of those linebackers. You've got to
- 13:31Speaker 6: make sure those guys are not gone up in the
- 13:34Speaker 6: stands and taking a swing at somebody or you know whatever.
- 13:37Speaker 5: I'm just saying. It's it's amazing what's on the place.
- 13:39Speaker 1: So I want to go back to the coaches of
- 13:42Speaker 1: these final four teams, and obviously it starts with Signetti,
- 13:46Speaker 1: who has no one's ever won back to back Coach
- 13:49Speaker 1: of the Year titles.
- 13:51Speaker 3: He's got a dress it's with.
- 13:54Speaker 1: He is, you know, but I will say this, that
- 13:59Speaker 1: is one well prepared. Oh yeah, you just hardly ever
- 14:04Speaker 1: see them doing stupid things.
- 14:07Speaker 3: I love to listen to some of his answers, you know,
- 14:09Speaker 3: they're asking him postgames, like did you how did you
- 14:12Speaker 3: get your players to you know, get into the just
- 14:16Speaker 3: seeing Alabama is another team as opposed to the traditions
- 14:20Speaker 3: and years and years, and he was like, uh, I
- 14:22Speaker 3: think my guys only pay attention to the tape. I
- 14:25Speaker 3: think they know a lot less about the tradition than
- 14:27Speaker 3: you do. And I loved it, you know, I loved.
- 14:30Speaker 5: Listening to him.
- 14:31Speaker 6: But when I saw his defense and obviously by end,
- 14:33Speaker 6: oh yeah, when I saw his defense play, and I
- 14:35Speaker 6: go like they've got all the And I go, he
- 14:38Speaker 6: was at Indiana.
- 14:39Speaker 5: He's a Indiana. He's just at Indiana.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Yeah, who had Indiana about thirty five over Alabama? Right, Yeah, I.
- 14:47Speaker 6: Mean they're and I laughed, and I go, they're getting
- 14:49Speaker 6: that kind of fans in football.
- 14:50Speaker 5: It's not basketball. Bobbie Night didn't show up in time.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Well, by the way, you know, everybody always says it's
- 14:54Speaker 3: basketball school that Evere won a national title the eighties.
- 14:59Speaker 6: It's all about right now Indiana. And he's already got
- 15:02Speaker 6: his quarterback for next year. He's not got the guy
- 15:04Speaker 6: he wanted. And they're not going anywhere.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I'm telling you, did he did? I just read that.
- 15:09Speaker 1: It's it's Josh Hoover from the quarterback.
- 15:13Speaker 3: And they have that. They have to be A and
- 15:15Speaker 3: m's model Indiana. Does I mean knocked out.
- 15:18Speaker 1: If he used to be next Saban not anymore?
- 15:20Speaker 3: Right, but it knocked out in the first round the
- 15:22Speaker 3: first year they get there. Yeah, everybody say they didn't
- 15:25Speaker 3: belong right very much? Right, and so now from again, right,
- 15:31Speaker 3: and that's what I thought. What happened to Indiana. They
- 15:33Speaker 3: proved me really wrong.
- 15:35Speaker 5: Yeah, way bright, way, the big way. But you know,
- 15:39Speaker 5: I'm sitting here and we have the show show.
- 15:41Speaker 6: This show is good and a lot of times and
- 15:43Speaker 6: I can't remember how many times we said, well, there's
- 15:46Speaker 6: not really a dominant team out there.
- 15:47Speaker 8: Now.
- 15:48Speaker 6: Yeah, I like Indiana, but if they lost this week,
- 15:50Speaker 6: it wouldn't surprise me.
- 15:51Speaker 3: I mean, I think this is where hard to be,
- 15:53Speaker 3: but it's hard to be in but twice in the
- 15:54Speaker 3: same year, right, I mean, that's the Oregon's advantage. I
- 15:57Speaker 3: think Organ is probably thrilled that they get his no shot. Remember,
- 16:00Speaker 3: oh yeah, and.
- 16:01Speaker 1: They're good enough.
- 16:03Speaker 5: Won last year. They're so fast.
- 16:07Speaker 1: But that's the thing that it's kind of as you
- 16:10Speaker 1: watch Indiana play. There's a lot of Big ten football
- 16:14Speaker 1: in Indiana. And I don't say that with respect, but
- 16:18Speaker 1: how they play and the way they play together. And
- 16:22Speaker 1: I'm not saying they're void of athletes. They had the
- 16:25Speaker 1: Heisman Trophy winner. They're not void of athletes.
- 16:27Speaker 3: No, there's no gimmick. I know what you're saying.
- 16:29Speaker 1: It's not a gimmick. But you look at Oregon and
- 16:33Speaker 1: they are so fast in every position. Uh Now, I
- 16:39Speaker 1: kind of thought that's why Alabama would have a shot.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Right.
- 16:42Speaker 1: You got to quote this sec speed against this, you know,
- 16:46Speaker 1: big ten, but they're not ground and pound. Indiana is
- 16:50Speaker 1: definitely not grounded.
- 16:51Speaker 3: Alabama football at still ye.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Still they still can't Yeah, still can't.
- 16:56Speaker 5: They have problems. They do, they have problems.
- 16:59Speaker 1: I will say that.
- 17:00Speaker 5: I'll say it again.
- 17:02Speaker 1: I'm gonna defend callender Bore, kaylend Bore until he leaves.
- 17:06Speaker 1: I think he is a hack of a football coach.
- 17:08Speaker 1: The people at Miami, I meant Alabama don't agree with
- 17:11Speaker 1: me right now because he ended up losing what four games?
- 17:14Speaker 5: Yeah, but here's dill Is when you're he's got to
- 17:17Speaker 5: prove it.
- 17:17Speaker 6: In a hurry or he's going to be gone, no
- 17:19Speaker 6: doubts he's I mean, it's yeah, you're right, And I
- 17:21Speaker 6: kind of feel for the guy because what you said,
- 17:24Speaker 6: he is a good coach, but you got to be
- 17:26Speaker 6: a great coach.
- 17:26Speaker 5: You just can't be good at Albaba.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Well, you have to be great, and as you mentioned,
- 17:31Speaker 1: you better be great quickly.
- 17:33Speaker 6: Yeah, that's not gonna wait forget about next next year
- 17:35Speaker 6: is when it matters. He better do something.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Yeah, No, he's he's in the on the hot seat right.
- 17:42Speaker 6: And that's just that's just the way they're they're built
- 17:44Speaker 6: in Alabama. They're not gonna put up with that. And
- 17:48Speaker 6: it's college football. I mean, when you stop and think,
- 17:50Speaker 6: you go old miss and A and m made the
- 17:53Speaker 6: argument that they should have been the sixth seed. Well
- 17:56Speaker 6: what you got Old missed, you got Miami. And I
- 17:59Speaker 6: still think, uh, christ of Ball is not a great coach.
- 18:02Speaker 6: At the end of the first half, I said, take
- 18:04Speaker 6: the field goal they threw the ball should have should
- 18:07Speaker 6: have been seventeen.
- 18:07Speaker 5: Oh that'll come back to buy him on the button. Yeah.
- 18:10Speaker 6: No, I give him credit. His players play hard and
- 18:13Speaker 6: they play well. I mean that's they were the better team.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Yeah, there's no doubt about that. And that was the
- 18:19Speaker 3: big I mean shocker to me in the second round.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Is Miami winning that thing?
- 18:24Speaker 6: I was because you watch the game and you go, man,
- 18:27Speaker 6: Miami's even I think more talented than it than just.
- 18:30Speaker 3: I think both those quarterbacks played tremendous games and that game,
- 18:34Speaker 3: you know, taking shots, I mean just some really tough
- 18:38Speaker 3: hits out there. And uh but yeah, Trinidad something else.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Now he was really and here here's a guy who
- 18:45Speaker 3: was you know beginning no, and he was a Division
- 18:48Speaker 3: two guy, right, I mean the guy that's what I said.
- 18:52Speaker 5: Everyone's looking for it.
- 18:53Speaker 6: And getting back to what Chip said, that's why a
- 18:55Speaker 6: d what two players are leaving because hey, I'm going
- 18:57Speaker 6: to be the next chamblist.
- 18:58Speaker 5: I'm gonna go I'm gonna go get millions. Yeah, you
- 19:01Speaker 5: know that's that's the thing.
- 19:02Speaker 1: See, since you mentioned general managers, now, uh, you know
- 19:06Speaker 1: NFL general managers get fired after a couple of bad drafts,
- 19:10Speaker 1: and with all the money that's being spent, you're gonna
- 19:12Speaker 1: see the same thing here. You miss on players, you know,
- 19:16Speaker 1: you misevaluate, you miss a whole position like Sark did
- 19:22Speaker 1: this year. You're gonna be looking for a job pretty quick.
- 19:25Speaker 6: Well, I'm gonna be interested to see what happens when
- 19:28Speaker 6: one of these power schools, like let's say Alabama. Let's
- 19:30Speaker 6: say Alabama was three nine win seasons in a row.
- 19:34Speaker 6: When did the donors get tired of paying paying two
- 19:36Speaker 6: hundred million dollars for nothing?
- 19:38Speaker 1: Man, I've said that for five years they had had
- 19:42Speaker 1: They finished their last two games worse than they and
- 19:44Speaker 1: end it.
- 19:44Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, the way they got manhandled, I mean
- 19:47Speaker 3: in both of those games.
- 19:49Speaker 1: And Albama didn't tolerate that, right, No, and no, you know, it.
- 19:54Speaker 3: It was a frustrating way for obviously for A and
- 19:57Speaker 3: M to you know, in the season, but eleven and oh,
- 20:01Speaker 3: I would have taken that eleven and two. I'd take
- 20:03Speaker 3: that heartbeat at start. Alabama's not gonna take nine wins
- 20:07Speaker 3: in a row, I mean nine seasons, no knocking.
- 20:10Speaker 1: It's all right. No, you're right, and I don't think really.
- 20:13Speaker 3: You know, and M fans will be really upset if
- 20:16Speaker 3: they go back to where they'd been, you know.
- 20:18Speaker 1: And so that's where.
- 20:19Speaker 3: They got to use that model of Indiana and I,
- 20:22Speaker 3: you know, Elka has been really good in the portal,
- 20:24Speaker 3: so I don't saw the guys that they've already gotten.
- 20:27Speaker 3: But good to me, you know. He obviously he judged
- 20:29Speaker 3: the wide receiver talent pretty good last year.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I've been bad.
- 20:34Speaker 3: No, he wasn't too bad, although he did disappear in
- 20:37Speaker 3: the last two games. It was kind of like, man,
- 20:39Speaker 3: that's too bad because he'd been so dominant.
- 20:41Speaker 6: But I wonder did he disappear as much as team
- 20:44Speaker 6: has playing more attention to him.
- 20:45Speaker 3: And maybe maybe helps to pick up Yeah, maybe a
- 20:48Speaker 3: little both, a.
- 20:49Speaker 6: Little bit of both. But once again, is he's done
- 20:51Speaker 6: great important in two years? If you look at he
- 20:53Speaker 6: went like thirty the first year, the second fifteen, and
- 20:56Speaker 6: what he's done, So you gotta think he's gonna make
- 20:59Speaker 6: the right choices with his genlem h. But it is
- 21:03Speaker 6: just like the NFL. If they don't hit on these guys,
- 21:05Speaker 6: then what.
- 21:06Speaker 5: Do you do?
- 21:06Speaker 3: Yep.
- 21:08Speaker 1: So I'm I'm looking at this Old Miss team, and
- 21:11Speaker 1: I did not expect him to beat Georgia. I thought
- 21:14Speaker 1: Georgia was gonna win the whole thing. That was before
- 21:17Speaker 1: I watched Indiana the other night.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean.
- 21:21Speaker 6: I did Georgia, but I thought that would be maybe
- 21:24Speaker 6: not even not one of the closer games.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I did too. But to do what they've done
- 21:31Speaker 1: with the chaos that they've had for a month, that's
- 21:33Speaker 1: really important.
- 21:34Speaker 3: I think most of America is rooting for Old Miss.
- 21:37Speaker 3: No I mean because that yeah, well, I think because
- 21:40Speaker 3: that coaching situation. Everybody would love to see this guy,
- 21:43Speaker 3: you know, interim now front Tim coach right who took
- 21:47Speaker 3: over and Old Miss said no, no thanks, Layne, You're
- 21:50Speaker 3: get on your way.
- 21:51Speaker 1: So what if he comes in and wins the Natty,
- 21:53Speaker 1: they make a run, they don't have to win two games,
- 21:56Speaker 1: and then next year goes.
- 21:57Speaker 5: Eight and four.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Well, we've seen that, but they aren't.
- 22:01Speaker 5: Going to have Trinidad Chambliss back. Yes, No, I don't
- 22:03Speaker 5: think they're going eight and for if.
- 22:04Speaker 1: He's a quarterback.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean we've seen that happen for Yeah, we've
- 22:08Speaker 3: seen it in the in the SEC all.
- 22:09Speaker 5: Some guys had success.
- 22:10Speaker 1: So you get a huge con fat contract and they
- 22:14Speaker 1: weren't as good as you thought they were.
- 22:15Speaker 3: I think most teams, especially you know, Ole Miss has
- 22:19Speaker 3: got one national championship, I think, and I think most
- 22:22Speaker 3: of their fan base would easily trade that off. You know,
- 22:24Speaker 3: if you're gonna win the nasal championship and I'm gonna
- 22:26Speaker 3: go eight and four next year, I'm okay with that.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Yeah, and you better you better do it while you
- 22:30Speaker 1: can't if you win a national championship.
- 22:32Speaker 6: And like I cover, I think I cover sports. Okay,
- 22:36Speaker 6: who is this Pete Golding? I mean, you know it's
- 22:37Speaker 6: like I didn't know what you look like until they
- 22:39Speaker 6: had the first president. I saw all that's him.
- 22:41Speaker 1: You know, they almost ran him out of Alabama as
- 22:43Speaker 1: a defensive coordinator. Alabama fans hated him the defensive coordinator.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, just one man's trash. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:51Speaker 6: But I'm thinking, I'm with you Chip this team just
- 22:55Speaker 6: and I get it. I was driving over listening to him,
- 22:58Speaker 6: and I got you. Gotta remember Kiffin put this team together.
- 23:01Speaker 5: Yes he did judge talent, yes he did. And he
- 23:03Speaker 5: had back up and and and.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin developed this quarterback? Did he developed this quarter.
- 23:11Speaker 6: And I'm saying that being said, he walked away And
- 23:14Speaker 6: for what going in this group has done is amazing.
- 23:17Speaker 6: It is you're right now, You've got like created two
- 23:20Speaker 6: animals because we know LSU's not gonna lose probably and
- 23:23Speaker 6: now ol Miss Ole Miss is gonna have a pretty
- 23:26Speaker 6: good Like you said, they're either gonna be a semi
- 23:28Speaker 6: finalist or finalist or a champion.
- 23:31Speaker 5: And I mean, oh my gosh, if they get a
- 23:33Speaker 5: championship in.
- 23:33Speaker 3: Oxford, I hear you. I mean, it's that's why I
- 23:38Speaker 3: think most people have been rooting for Old Miss as
- 23:41Speaker 3: I think you are.
- 23:42Speaker 6: How could you know Chadlis is a good story. They
- 23:44Speaker 6: haven't any off the field incidents. You go like, oh,
- 23:47Speaker 6: I hate those teams.
- 23:49Speaker 3: I'd love see Old Miss in Indiana. I mean, that's
- 23:51Speaker 3: why I'd love to see a NAST championship game, and
- 23:53Speaker 3: you got to you like a red reds favorite color, right, No,
- 23:56Speaker 3: definitely not, definitely not. But I just think that that
- 23:59Speaker 3: would be a really game.
- 24:00Speaker 6: I'm with you right now. But the fact is I don't.
- 24:04Speaker 6: I don't have a dog in the hunts, so to speak.
- 24:06Speaker 6: I just want to see good games me too.
- 24:07Speaker 1: We didn't.
- 24:08Speaker 5: We saw one of those when you see good games Thursday. Yeah,
- 24:12Speaker 5: the Oklahoma Alabama game was good. For example. You know,
- 24:15Speaker 5: look the first round a M game was close. It wasn't.
- 24:18Speaker 3: It wasn't a good game. It bored me to tears.
- 24:21Speaker 3: As a matter of fact, I was like, you know,
- 24:23Speaker 3: even when Adam's on the five yard line, my wife goes,
- 24:26Speaker 3: she looks at me, she goes, you know he's gonna
- 24:29Speaker 3: throw an interception, sure.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Enough, So you're not taking her back?
- 24:34Speaker 9: Right?
- 24:35Speaker 5: Wow?
- 24:37Speaker 3: We we were. We were crammed in there, I mean,
- 24:40Speaker 3: and we were sitting at the end zone, so I
- 24:41Speaker 3: could see that he threw the you know, six yards
- 24:43Speaker 3: behind the receiver on the first interception.
- 24:46Speaker 6: I just keep saying, right now, we could be live
- 24:48Speaker 6: from Arizona doing the show.
- 24:49Speaker 3: You know, it's not that far with with chips down
- 24:54Speaker 3: paying the way.
- 24:56Speaker 5: Let's go Arizona's niceest time really to me. All right,
- 24:59Speaker 5: we need a break.

- 29:19Speaker 1: So runners round Table presented by in Tech. I just
- 29:23Speaker 1: thought of a brilliant topic here, guys during the commercial, Well,
- 29:27Speaker 1: this is what I do.
- 29:29Speaker 3: That's why you're a pro man.
- 29:31Speaker 1: That's why I'm a pro. Why why it's too hard?
- 29:36Speaker 1: Why would what? What grade would you give Aggie football
- 29:41Speaker 1: this season?
- 29:42Speaker 3: I would say, I've thought about this, and I would
- 29:45Speaker 3: say A minus B plus. Okay, Well, I mean well,
- 29:50Speaker 3: I mean, like I said earlier, if you'd given me
- 29:52Speaker 3: eleven and two started a year, I'd be like, Okay,
- 29:54Speaker 3: I was thinking more like eight and four. Correct. And
- 29:57Speaker 3: so the fact that they've got to the playoff of
- 29:59Speaker 3: the first time. Yeah, they didn't look, you know, ready
- 30:03Speaker 3: for the prime time when they got there. But I
- 30:08Speaker 3: just think in year two of Mike Ilko, I was
- 30:12Speaker 3: pretty darn good. Yeah, not great, but you know it
- 30:17Speaker 3: was pretty darn good.
- 30:19Speaker 5: And I gave them an A or a minus. Sorry
- 30:21Speaker 5: did that.
- 30:21Speaker 6: And along the same lines of Rusty, you gotta remember,
- 30:25Speaker 6: I don't remember I picked him either eight and four,
- 30:26Speaker 6: nine or three. No better than that. I said, they're
- 30:29Speaker 6: gonna lose a lot of those road games. I had
- 30:31Speaker 6: my question mark about Reid. I had the question mark
- 30:35Speaker 6: about particularly the defense and the secondary and wide receivers.
- 30:40Speaker 6: And I go, okay, I got these two wide receivers.
- 30:42Speaker 6: But you know in kencepts you on, I said before
- 30:45Speaker 6: you averaged like eleven point seven yards and eight a
- 30:48Speaker 6: acc I go, it's gonna be tougher in the SEC.
- 30:51Speaker 6: But a lot of things clicked for A and M.
- 30:54Speaker 6: They overachieved through eleven games to get to where you know,
- 30:58Speaker 6: you're playing the big time. But you got, you know,
- 31:00Speaker 6: you got got to win one of those two games.
- 31:02Speaker 6: That being said, so I'll give you a kick in
- 31:04Speaker 6: the It's like an A minus.
- 31:07Speaker 5: You had a great year.
- 31:08Speaker 6: You didn't have a fantastic year, but where they started from,
- 31:14Speaker 6: and you guys touched on a little bit. Somebody said,
- 31:15Speaker 6: you know, if they go back to nine games, if
- 31:17Speaker 6: they went nine to the year ago, and next year go
- 31:20Speaker 6: nine and four, even though with that schedule, that could
- 31:22Speaker 6: be good nine and four, but it's gonna have an
- 31:24Speaker 6: empty feeling because this year went eleven and two. Even
- 31:28Speaker 6: if they go nine and four an hour rephrase, if
- 31:31Speaker 6: they'd go nine to four and they beat Texas, they
- 31:35Speaker 6: still probably wouldn't get an a They good because they've
- 31:38Speaker 6: got to do better than that because they won eleven
- 31:40Speaker 6: this year. So that's how much of a step they took.
- 31:43Speaker 6: And we talked about golding or whatever. That's the problem.
- 31:46Speaker 6: You overachieved early because everybody gets jacked up. Everybody go
- 31:51Speaker 6: the hundred, well one hundred and what four thousand went
- 31:54Speaker 6: to that game. By next fault have been a quarter
- 31:56Speaker 6: of a million will be there. But if they don't
- 31:58Speaker 6: get better, go win a game like that, then everybody's
- 32:02Speaker 6: gonna be disappointed. So the good, good, good news is
- 32:05Speaker 6: to me, they've arrived in the fact that the bar
- 32:08Speaker 6: set way high.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Where are the areas that you feel need to be
- 32:13Speaker 1: improved the.
- 32:14Speaker 3: Most well as far as Guy's stepping it up. I
- 32:17Speaker 3: really feel like Marcel needs to continue to evolve. And yes,
- 32:21Speaker 3: he looked really, I don't know, unstable the last two games.
- 32:27Speaker 3: I mean the interceptions of turnovers, and he seemed like
- 32:30Speaker 3: he may have regressed a little bit as a season.
- 32:32Speaker 3: I know that they threw a lot of zone at him,
- 32:35Speaker 3: which I don't think early in the season that they did,
- 32:37Speaker 3: which I think he had a hard time seeing that
- 32:40Speaker 3: and reading it. So I think he really needs to
- 32:43Speaker 3: grow as quarterback first and foremost, because like you said,
- 32:47Speaker 3: you got to have a quarterback right and you know,
- 32:49Speaker 3: quite frankly, I thought the ANM defense played over their
- 32:53Speaker 3: heads against Miami, and they didn't do that against Texas.
- 32:57Speaker 3: But you know what, Miami's just They're gonna and grind
- 33:01Speaker 3: it and just let you beat yourself. So I just
- 33:04Speaker 3: think number one has got to be Marcel, and then
- 33:07Speaker 3: you've got to, you know, get this offensive line going.
- 33:10Speaker 6: My deal is giving them an A or a minus.
- 33:14Speaker 6: But yet I think they have two glaring errors when
- 33:17Speaker 6: I look back, and when you think about when it came
- 33:20Speaker 6: right down to it, kicking, Yeah, well kicking but you see,
- 33:24Speaker 6: I was, you know, kicking such a specialist, and they
- 33:26Speaker 6: got the Illinois guy coming.
- 33:28Speaker 5: I thought the main problem was.
- 33:31Speaker 6: You're right, Reid's got to be better in big games, because,
- 33:33Speaker 6: let's be honest, I had a very When you look
- 33:34Speaker 6: at the record they had, it's like eleven and forty
- 33:37Speaker 6: whatever it was. When you and I talk about this
- 33:40Speaker 6: a lot of time, it's a line of scrimmage league,
- 33:42Speaker 6: and a lot of times on third and three, offensively
- 33:46Speaker 6: or defensively, A and M couldn't stop the run. Miami
- 33:49Speaker 6: picked up big run after big run. Texas even ran
- 33:52Speaker 6: the ball, and Texas had run the ball.
- 33:54Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 33:54Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 33:55Speaker 5: And then when A and M.
- 33:56Speaker 6: I thought, going in the year with Moss and these
- 33:58Speaker 6: running backs in this line, man, they're going to average
- 34:01Speaker 6: two twenty on the ground against anybody. And then they
- 34:04Speaker 6: get in big games and they can't. They can't run
- 34:06Speaker 6: the ball, right, And so I don't care what they do.
- 34:09Speaker 6: And I asked myself, Okay.
- 34:11Speaker 1: So that's an issue two years in a row.
- 34:13Speaker 6: Right, And I say zo line overrated or it was
- 34:16Speaker 6: they miss Moss that much. I'd like to think they
- 34:19Speaker 6: missed Moss that much.
- 34:20Speaker 3: I want to know who called the fake punt because
- 34:23Speaker 3: that was just an atrocious It's such a low percentage.
- 34:27Speaker 5: Pass and they could be glad Miami didn't score.
- 34:30Speaker 3: No, it didn't hurt him, but it was like, you
- 34:33Speaker 3: don't have your punter throw a thirty five yard pass.
- 34:36Speaker 5: It had to be the coach. I mean, you know what.
- 34:38Speaker 5: I was right down to it, and what did I say?
- 34:40Speaker 6: I've said several times, I think Colin Klein will be
- 34:42Speaker 6: a much better head coach in Kansas State. After two
- 34:45Speaker 6: years here, he'd learned a lot. And I tell a
- 34:47Speaker 6: lot of people this is still Micae Kle to me,
- 34:50Speaker 6: he has only been a head coach coach two years
- 34:53Speaker 6: with with the pressure on, so to speak, Duke was
- 34:55Speaker 6: just like like the warm up regiment out of the bullpen.
- 34:58Speaker 6: He did grind his stuff. Look good at Duke, but
- 35:02Speaker 6: he's still don't even and he's done great. But I think,
- 35:05Speaker 6: you know, you don't run that zip play where they
- 35:08Speaker 6: had to fumble.
- 35:09Speaker 8: Against South Carolina after they leave what in the Sam
- 35:14Speaker 8: Hecker you guys put someone fall off his chair.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Ye, So he's to me, he's gonna get better just
- 35:20Speaker 1: because so we talk about this so much. Well, I
- 35:25Speaker 1: watched so much college football, so you see so many
- 35:28Speaker 1: coaching blunders. Right when you're on the couch, you just
- 35:32Speaker 1: you look and you go, what are you thinking? And
- 35:36Speaker 1: who are you listening to? They all have sixteen assistants
- 35:40Speaker 1: right screaming. Fifteen of them are in their ear. You
- 35:44Speaker 1: have twenty five seconds to get it off. You have
- 35:47Speaker 1: two yards to make to win the football game. Or
- 35:50Speaker 1: you're going to kick a field goal and tie the
- 35:53Speaker 1: game and see if your defense get hold or whatever.
- 35:57Speaker 1: And you just go, what did you just do? You're
- 36:00Speaker 1: making ten million dollars a year and you have sixteen
- 36:04Speaker 1: assistants and this is the play or this is the
- 36:07Speaker 1: decision you make here?
- 36:09Speaker 3: You know, one of the most impressive things about old missus,
- 36:11Speaker 3: when was that field goal kicker going out there? Yeah
- 36:14Speaker 3: and nailing it? Yeah? I mean field goal kickers. You
- 36:16Speaker 3: see it on every level. I don't know if you
- 36:18Speaker 3: watched the Steelers last night, Oh yeah, every minute you
- 36:21Speaker 3: talk about two guys who choked at the very end
- 36:24Speaker 3: of the game.
- 36:25Speaker 1: Oh man, that was something else.
- 36:27Speaker 6: And I'll go back to you, chip at in, don't
- 36:29Speaker 6: forget Georgia goes for and fourth down and then Kirby
- 36:32Speaker 6: comes back and said they screwed up.
- 36:34Speaker 5: That was a coaching deal. Yes, what you're talking about.
- 36:37Speaker 6: And we know Georgia's got great, high paid assistance. Kirby's
- 36:41Speaker 6: got two national changers, and they had a bonet place.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Yes, I mean it happened. So if you're watching the
- 36:47Speaker 1: same team every minute all year long, there's gonna be
- 36:51Speaker 1: places that you're gonna scratch your head at.
- 36:53Speaker 7: Right.
- 36:53Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's just that so many of these come
- 36:58Speaker 1: at the highest pressure moment of the game, right right,
- 37:02Speaker 1: especially when you watch I mean put yeah, you know,
- 37:05Speaker 1: just pressure the whole game. You know, the stupid play
- 37:09Speaker 1: at the goal line, the past, the fumble. Fine, I
- 37:12Speaker 1: mean why are you doing that?
- 37:15Speaker 5: George? Like I said, there's such a fun But if.
- 37:17Speaker 1: You only have a handful of plays in thirteen games
- 37:21Speaker 1: that you've seen every minute of, you're going, well, you
- 37:24Speaker 1: have to live with that because because coaches are gonna
- 37:27Speaker 1: make mistakes.
- 37:27Speaker 5: Yeah, we're sitting there eating popcorn up in the first box.
- 37:30Speaker 5: It's easy, you get what the heck did that guy
- 37:32Speaker 5: just do?
- 37:32Speaker 1: It's easy.
- 37:33Speaker 6: It's easy, and those guys make it not millions billions
- 37:37Speaker 6: in all for everybody. When you got a guy like
- 37:39Speaker 6: you mentioned Cody Campbell as your boss is yeah McGuire's boss.
- 37:43Speaker 5: Yeah, he's probably seen like, why didn't we have a quarterback?
- 37:46Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 37:46Speaker 6: You know, how can we go through the whole season
- 37:48Speaker 6: without a quarterback?
- 37:50Speaker 3: Yeah? And you talked about all the assistants. And I
- 37:53Speaker 3: was sitting behind the end and bench on Saturday, and
- 37:56Speaker 3: so I got to see everything in this including the
- 37:59Speaker 3: video guys. Oh man, there's more coaches than there's players.
- 38:04Speaker 5: You know, it's unbelievable.
- 38:05Speaker 3: But one of the video guys thought he saw the
- 38:09Speaker 3: am challenge, and obviously what he thought wasn't conclusive because
- 38:14Speaker 3: they and him lost their challenge when they did.
- 38:16Speaker 1: But Bucky had.
- 38:19Speaker 3: To take his word for it. It's like, Okay, you're
- 38:23Speaker 3: good on this, yes, And he's like yeah, and you know,
- 38:26Speaker 3: I don't know if he's still working at a M
- 38:28Speaker 3: but he wasn't right.
- 38:30Speaker 5: They won the game.
- 38:31Speaker 3: They won the game. Yeah, all right.

- 39:25Speaker 17: Despite having one of the top ranked offenses in the NFL,
- 39:27Speaker 17: the Dallas Cowboys can easily point to their defensive issues
- 39:30Speaker 17: for many of their losses, but owners slash GM Jerry
- 39:33Speaker 17: Jones doesn't think that is This twenty twenty five to
- 39:36Speaker 17: twenty six campaign is a total loss.
- 39:38Speaker 9: Man. I've enjoyed this and let's get up here. It

- 41:48Speaker 1: We're having some computer issues under you find that hard
- 41:51Speaker 1: to believe and and I think this is probably the
- 41:56Speaker 1: perfect way to end the Cowboys Report.
- 41:59Speaker 5: Yes, Jerry Jones did that team.
- 42:01Speaker 1: From last week's Cowboys Report, people were going, what playing
- 42:06Speaker 1: the New York Giants tomorrow.
- 42:08Speaker 5: I'll tell you what. I bet they lose the Giants.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a good call.
- 42:12Speaker 5: That's a good call. Put your money down on that.
- 42:14Speaker 1: But I think that's probably symbolic of the entire scenes.
- 42:20Speaker 1: Let's talk a little bit of basketball. If we can't
- 42:23Speaker 1: see you went to the game Saturday.
- 42:24Speaker 6: I was very impressed with the crowd. If you were
- 42:27Speaker 6: out there, you know, school's not in and uh, I
- 42:31Speaker 6: consider myself not as uh star warts of basketball as
- 42:36Speaker 6: you and Rusty are, but I've always been I've always
- 42:38Speaker 6: loved basketball. The time with Billy Gillespie hear a me,
- 42:40Speaker 6: it was great. But getting back to it, fans were
- 42:44Speaker 6: out there. I know tickets can be high priced to whatever,
- 42:47Speaker 6: but I saw people my age up cheering when they
- 42:50Speaker 6: got into the game. You like to see that. The
- 42:53Speaker 6: style of play, the defense was there. That would make
- 42:56Speaker 6: Gillespie and Kennedy and Buzz Williams happy. But this team
- 43:02Speaker 6: has an offense about it, and I get it. It might
- 43:04Speaker 6: take a couple of years, but this team's fun.
- 43:06Speaker 5: To watch.
- 43:07Speaker 3: Yeah. Absolutely, there was so much more entertaining than they
- 43:10Speaker 3: had been in previous years. And you know they I.
- 43:14Speaker 5: Don't feel like I'm a dentist chair well exactly right.
- 43:16Speaker 3: I mean sometimes when I was watching victories last year, like, god,
- 43:20Speaker 3: this is really hurting my eyes, but this is, you know,
- 43:23Speaker 3: up tempo they made. They did make a bunch of mistakes,
- 43:27Speaker 3: but you're going to I mean, they had too many turnovers.
- 43:29Speaker 3: I thought ag plays so hard.
- 43:31Speaker 1: But he also had some really like stupid, why do
- 43:34Speaker 1: you make that pass?
- 43:35Speaker 5: Or why do you file the guy? Yeah.
- 43:37Speaker 3: I was close enough the bench that I heard Bucky
- 43:39Speaker 3: yelling out all of his assistants going what are we doing?
- 43:43Speaker 3: You know, right right after the foul, And he texted
- 43:47Speaker 3: me later or next day. I'd said him, congratulations. He said,
- 43:51Speaker 3: I thought I was gonna retire if we lost that
- 43:53Speaker 3: one on that foul. Entertaining is he's entertained to watch? Yeah,
- 43:58Speaker 3: And you know, I just think they do a lot
- 44:02Speaker 3: of things that you're going, okay, but they only shot
- 44:04Speaker 3: twenty nine percent from three. Yet they still made some
- 44:07Speaker 3: big three and you know they're gonna be challenged size
- 44:11Speaker 3: wise throughout this year. I think Frederica. Frederica is h
- 44:16Speaker 3: Frederico is just kind of an offensive liability. He did
- 44:22Speaker 3: a lot of subbing, like offense defense with ag. He's
- 44:27Speaker 3: a solid I mean, he's tall. You can't can't coach
- 44:30Speaker 3: six eleven, right, I mean, but Vincent, who I thought
- 44:33Speaker 3: was making some progress, he didn't look very good in
- 44:36Speaker 3: that game.
- 44:37Speaker 8: Uh.
- 44:38Speaker 3: He was on the court very limited amount of times.
- 44:41Speaker 3: So I don't know. If one of those two guys
- 44:44Speaker 3: can't step up, then they're gonna have some really difficulties
- 44:48Speaker 3: against the bigger, physical teams.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's what I saw when LSU was making
- 44:54Speaker 1: the comeback. They were just they had bigger bodies in
- 44:57Speaker 1: the paint, right, and it seemed a lot EASi year
- 45:01Speaker 1: for them to get there. But I will say this,
- 45:04Speaker 1: I said it you know earlier, Matt. When you have
- 45:09Speaker 1: eight more offensive rebounds against that team and you're that size,
- 45:14Speaker 1: that's just that's effort and will right, I'll say.
- 45:17Speaker 3: This too that if you look at the box score,
- 45:20Speaker 3: Roland Griffin didn't have a great game. Seven points twenty minutes.
- 45:25Speaker 3: You know, I got quick fouls. He was on the
- 45:26Speaker 3: bench most of the first half because of the foul trump.
- 45:29Speaker 3: But at the end of that game, he came up
- 45:31Speaker 3: with two huge steals and you know, very athletic and
- 45:37Speaker 3: that ended up making you know, the difference in and
- 45:39Speaker 3: then being able to win that game.
- 45:41Speaker 6: Yes, and McMillan will go ahead. He wants he wants
- 45:45Speaker 6: us to be a home field advantage, so horome court advantage,
- 45:48Speaker 6: So he'll go out. He'll probably go to your clubs
- 45:50Speaker 6: or what have you. He wants he said, he doesn't
- 45:52Speaker 6: want a three point advantage. He wants an eight point advantage.
- 45:55Speaker 6: And when the students get back, like I said, you
- 45:57Speaker 6: got to like his style. And I know you've touched
- 46:00Speaker 6: on the chip a few times. When you shoot as
- 46:02Speaker 6: many threes as they do, they're gonna be cald some
- 46:04Speaker 6: games and it's gonna cost him.
- 46:06Speaker 3: And they were early on especially, they were.
- 46:08Speaker 5: Two fourteen to start up to fourteen. And I'm thinking, well,
- 46:11Speaker 5: I picked the right game to come see this team.
- 46:14Speaker 9: You know, you just have to.
- 46:18Speaker 1: You have to look at the entirety of the conference schedule,
- 46:23Speaker 1: and there's gonna be teams that are a lot bigger
- 46:26Speaker 1: than they are, you know, more physical than they are.
- 46:29Speaker 1: But my thing is, are they going to play harder
- 46:33Speaker 1: than A and m so far, My answer would be no.
- 46:36Speaker 3: And in play so hard. He is the epitome of
- 46:39Speaker 3: playing so hard. Yeah, I mean, yeah, you questioned Emi.
- 46:43Speaker 3: Sometimes the dumb passes not that thing, but man, he
- 46:46Speaker 3: just plays so hard and he gives up so much
- 46:49Speaker 3: Hike and he was backing uh Wako down and h
- 46:53Speaker 3: I thought he was really just impressive again he can
- 46:56Speaker 3: double double again.
- 46:57Speaker 6: In this era of nil and what have you to
- 47:01Speaker 6: have a team play that hard when a lot of
- 47:02Speaker 6: those guys don't play a lot of minutes and when
- 47:05Speaker 6: you can get somebody to come out and play eleven
- 47:08Speaker 6: hard minutes. And I'm thinking to myself, as hard as
- 47:11Speaker 6: he's playing right now, how hard does he have to
- 47:13Speaker 6: play in practice? Because I would imagine their practices are
- 47:17Speaker 6: pretty intense. Yes, And uh, that goes what do we
- 47:20Speaker 6: talk about just in football? Because back to coaching, it's
- 47:23Speaker 6: all about you know, coach talent and coaching. You can't
- 47:26Speaker 6: win unless you have both.
- 47:27Speaker 3: And Alida, man, he is really making progress.
- 47:31Speaker 1: Made the last three games, probably because every time he
- 47:35Speaker 1: went in, I'm like, why do you keep playing that?
- 47:37Speaker 3: That was the same thing and now he is. He
- 47:40Speaker 3: was really good good, Yes.
- 47:42Speaker 6: He was when I joked off air, there's only eight more,
- 47:45Speaker 6: seven more conference games left. I mean, you win the
- 47:47Speaker 6: first one, that's a great sign because you got to
- 47:51Speaker 6: protect the home court and then anything can happen when
- 47:53Speaker 6: you do that. And they're gone to Auburn and a
- 47:56Speaker 6: and M's won at Alburn before he suddenly, as they
- 47:59Speaker 6: usually historically, they out.
- 48:01Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, you look at the schedule and I'm
- 48:05Speaker 1: still not if there's a great team in the league.
- 48:11Speaker 1: I'm not sure they've emerged yet.
- 48:12Speaker 3: Let's Kentucky play. They didn't.
- 48:15Speaker 5: They're not very good. They didn't want.
- 48:17Speaker 1: Kentucky's not very good. Vanderbilt is good.
- 48:20Speaker 3: Yeah, they're good.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Alabama is still good. They have a system, they're going
- 48:26Speaker 1: to play it, and they know how to win.
- 48:29Speaker 3: Georgia looks pretty good.
- 48:31Speaker 1: Georgia looks pretty good. I'm not ready to crown them yet.
- 48:35Speaker 1: Arkansas to me has the biggest upside of this group. Uh,
- 48:40Speaker 1: they have talent, they have coaching. They know what, they
- 48:45Speaker 1: went to the sweet sixteen or something last year on
- 48:49Speaker 1: that run, you know, when they barely got in the tournament.
- 48:54Speaker 1: You know, Missouri got a big win against Florida, but
- 48:58Speaker 1: Florida is just they don't have the guard. They got
- 49:01Speaker 1: big guys, but no guards.
- 49:02Speaker 3: They're a totally different team than last year, totally, like,
- 49:05Speaker 3: not even close to where they were last year.
- 49:08Speaker 1: You know, Tennessee lost at Arkansas. I think Tennessee is
- 49:12Speaker 1: still pretty good. But they're not what they've been right there,
- 49:15Speaker 1: They're not you're a lot of them I am, so
- 49:19Speaker 1: you know, they're not what they've been. Auburn certainly is
- 49:21Speaker 1: not what they've been. You know, Mississippi State beat Texas,
- 49:26Speaker 1: but I don't you know they had that guard. Josh
- 49:29Speaker 1: Hubberd just went off. When he does he had thirty
- 49:32Speaker 1: eight and ten and overtime. So when he does well,
- 49:37Speaker 1: when he does that, they will beat some teams. Texas
- 49:40Speaker 1: isn't very good, so you know they're gonna be at
- 49:44Speaker 1: the bottom. South Carolina, I'm really surprised at Ole Miss
- 49:48Speaker 1: at Chris Beard. I'm sure the fans at Ole Miss
- 49:51Speaker 1: are really surprised, but I'm sure they don't really care
- 49:54Speaker 1: right now as long football is going on. Right Florida
- 49:59Speaker 1: has to basically all American players in the post. They
- 50:03Speaker 1: don't have guards, you know, they're they're just somebody that's
- 50:06Speaker 1: a killer. I haven't watched Auburn enough, so I'm interested
- 50:10Speaker 1: in watching them tomorrow. Watched them a little bit. I
- 50:14Speaker 1: don't know if the son can coach, probably can't coach
- 50:17Speaker 1: like the dad. Yeah, I mean that's the thing, and.
- 50:22Speaker 3: That's an interesting choice. You know, just kind of give
- 50:25Speaker 3: give it, give it, give the keys to your son.
- 50:28Speaker 5: But you didn't hand off the willing ability.
- 50:30Speaker 6: That's the problem is that's always a problem in It'll
- 50:33Speaker 6: be a big problem in a hurry.
- 50:35Speaker 1: A lot of a lot of programs make that mistake.
- 50:39Speaker 5: They love their basketball, they want to win, and they're
- 50:41Speaker 5: not going to they're used to it. It'd be like it.
- 50:44Speaker 6: Would like when Bobby Knight handed off the Pat Night
- 50:47Speaker 6: up in Texas Tech didn't correct that didn't work out
- 50:49Speaker 6: too well.
- 50:50Speaker 3: You know, you you mentioned earlier s m U, and
- 50:53Speaker 3: I saw them play in North Carolina. Yes, and they
- 50:56Speaker 3: knocked off North Carolina. Well they had also Shoe had
- 51:00Speaker 3: beaten SMU by twelve. They did, and so it's interesting
- 51:04Speaker 3: when you look at you know, of course, it compares
- 51:06Speaker 3: like you know, I thought A and M played a
- 51:08Speaker 3: terrible first half against SMU and played great second half
- 51:13Speaker 3: up until the last four seconds. Yeah, and they totally
- 51:15Speaker 3: blew that. Yeah, and you know, I thought it was
- 51:18Speaker 3: interesting that Bucky said, you know, yeah, we we very
- 51:21Speaker 3: much learned from that and we were able to close
- 51:23Speaker 3: it out and they were able to handle that full
- 51:27Speaker 3: court pressure that LSU they couldn't handle it against SMU. Correct,
- 51:30Speaker 3: and so it was it was great to see the growth.
- 51:32Speaker 6: And he said, if they hadn't lost the SMU game,
- 51:35Speaker 6: maybe they don't win the LSU game.
- 51:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I'd rather win a conference gat.
- 51:38Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a good trade off.
- 51:40Speaker 5: Yeah, especially with with the l s U.
- 51:44Speaker 1: But you know, I don't know where this team is
- 51:46Speaker 1: going to finish. I've got no clue. I don't think
- 51:49Speaker 1: how many games they're gonna win. I don't think you
- 51:52Speaker 1: can have.
- 51:52Speaker 6: A clue at this point, you know, not enough information
- 51:55Speaker 6: on there in other teams. Yeah, and I want to
- 51:57Speaker 6: see what they could do in the road now with
- 51:59Speaker 6: the losing their big guy.
- 52:00Speaker 1: It's only their second road game, second true road game,
- 52:03Speaker 1: r Yeah, and this this environment will be a little different.
- 52:08Speaker 3: Than Pitt One of their road their their neutral side
- 52:11Speaker 3: game was a home game. That was the one in Arlington,
- 52:14Speaker 3: and there were a lot more Raggies s MU folks.
- 52:17Speaker 5: Yeah, yes, I'm interested to see what they do.
- 52:19Speaker 1: Uh, Oklahoma is kind of a hot and cold team
- 52:23Speaker 1: to me. They will be in here on Saturday. So
- 52:27Speaker 1: the Sooners a game when remember when Blake Griffin came in. Yes,
- 52:35Speaker 1: remember those days, Yes, Reid was rocking, Yes.
- 52:39Speaker 3: It was and they had a good win. I guess,
- 52:43Speaker 3: but I don't know. Like you said earlier, Oh Miss,
- 52:45Speaker 3: how good are they?
- 52:46Speaker 1: Oh Miss hadn't been very good at that. I've seen
- 52:49Speaker 1: Chris Beard a couple of times. He's pulling out what
- 52:51Speaker 1: Harry has left. It's like at at one of their
- 52:55Speaker 1: post games where they got beat at home really badly
- 52:57Speaker 1: by a team they're not supposed to lose to.
- 53:00Speaker 3: Are Oklahoma fans uh good with Porter Moser?
- 53:05Speaker 18: I don't know.
- 53:06Speaker 1: I don't think they're good with anybody.
- 53:08Speaker 6: If yeah, probably right, if you didn't wanted to run
- 53:10Speaker 6: him off last year, that's what I was close. And
- 53:12Speaker 6: I think they look to be just average this year.
- 53:15Speaker 6: I can't see them saddling that. If he doesn't get
- 53:19Speaker 6: make the tournament, I don't think they keep it.
- 53:21Speaker 3: I think A and M can be good enough that
- 53:23Speaker 3: they're they're going to be considered for the tournament. I
- 53:25Speaker 3: don't know if they're good enough to get in, we'll
- 53:28Speaker 3: see they they would.
- 53:30Speaker 1: I would think they'd have to win eight out of sixteen,
- 53:35Speaker 1: don't you. I guess they could go with their seven
- 53:38Speaker 1: and nine record.
- 53:40Speaker 3: They're playing, aren't they playing eighteen eighteen? Yeah, so I
- 53:44Speaker 3: think you have to go nine to nine or you
- 53:47Speaker 3: have to go ten and eight. I mean, I would
- 53:49Speaker 3: think that that's where you would have to get because
- 53:52Speaker 3: they had some of those losses, you know, the the
- 53:54Speaker 3: UCF and they and.
- 53:55Speaker 5: They haven't really played a good non conference git.
- 53:57Speaker 3: No, they didn't. I mean, but like Chips, the SMU
- 54:01Speaker 3: lost was a lot better after they beat North lost better.
- 54:04Speaker 5: Yeah. So that's why eight hundred. That's why Cole Hunder
- 54:07Speaker 5: probably gets you.
- 54:08Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot of it depends on how the rest
- 54:11Speaker 3: of the league fall. It's not gonna They're not gonna
- 54:13Speaker 3: get the same amount they had last year. I mean
- 54:15Speaker 3: that was ridiculous. They see was the best league in basketball.
- 54:17Speaker 3: Yes it's not this year.
- 54:18Speaker 1: Yeah, way, Yes, you know, I think the Big twelve
- 54:23Speaker 1: is really good, Big ten's pretty good, ACC is pretty good.
- 54:28Speaker 1: All of those would be you know, you would compare
- 54:32Speaker 1: not to last year's SEC. There's no way to compare list.
- 54:35Speaker 3: Probably haven't watched enough National Basket.
- 54:37Speaker 1: By the way, there's there's no way we should be
- 54:39Speaker 1: comparing what the league is this year. The last year
- 54:43Speaker 1: that was like a once in a lifelive deal. Yeah,
- 54:45Speaker 1: and National champions All right, boys, we wasted an hour.
- 54:48Speaker 1: Happy New Year. Thanks for showing up.

- 54:59Speaker 3: I don't know what makes me so happy.
- 55:00Speaker 5: But they're doing well rebonding around the rim.
