- 0:00Speaker 1: Thanks Mike Lane. A big two to one win over Carolina.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Now back to back wins in very different ways. With
- 0:06Speaker 1: this being the final game before the trade deadline and
- 0:08Speaker 1: all the names that have been swirling around, from a
- 0:10Speaker 1: cracking perspective, it's only human nature to let that try
- 0:14Speaker 1: and creep in a little bit. What can you do,
- 0:15Speaker 1: what can your staff do to get a lot of
- 0:19Speaker 1: as much of that noise out of the room here
- 0:21Speaker 1: tonight going into the deadline on Saturday or Friday.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's not easy, certainly, you know everyone, it's
- 0:30Speaker 2: a bit of a nervous time for people all across
- 0:34Speaker 2: the league getting trade It involves a lot more than
- 0:37Speaker 2: just going from one team to the other on the ice.
- 0:39Speaker 2: That's probably the easiest part of it. It's all the
- 0:42Speaker 2: other things, you know, off the ice and away from
- 0:44Speaker 2: the rank and the family and things like that, that
- 0:46Speaker 2: is a difficult part of it. So you know, there's always,
- 0:50Speaker 2: I guess a little bit of trepidation with that from
- 0:52Speaker 2: the players, and you know, oneasiness, all we can do
- 0:56Speaker 2: is take it, you know, one day at a time,
- 0:58Speaker 2: and certainly you know we're asking our players tonight in
- 1:02Speaker 2: our last game before that deadline to come to the rink,
- 1:06Speaker 2: focus in for three hours, and you know, go home
- 1:10Speaker 2: and deal with it from there.
- 1:11Speaker 1: What did you feel about the performance in that game
- 1:13Speaker 1: against Carolina? Very very tight. You didn't get a whole lot,
- 1:17Speaker 1: but the opportunities that you did get you capitalized on.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Yeah, we kind of knew that was the way it
- 1:22Speaker 2: was going to be against the Carolina team who haven't
- 1:25Speaker 2: changed their game in years and are very good at it.
- 1:27Speaker 2: So I thought our guys did a good job of
- 1:30Speaker 2: being committed.
- 1:30Speaker 3: I thought we did a really good job of, you know,
- 1:33Speaker 3: keeping them to the outside and they like to put
- 1:37Speaker 3: pucks into the goal area and then try and get
- 1:40Speaker 3: inside and win races on you. And I thought we
- 1:43Speaker 3: did a pretty good job of controlling that. The shots
- 1:45Speaker 3: were lopsided, We knew they probably would be.
- 1:48Speaker 2: That wasn't a surprise to us, you know, but the
- 1:51Speaker 2: scoring chances were pretty darn even so that was really
- 1:55Speaker 2: what was the most important thing to us, And we
- 1:57Speaker 2: knew that if we had an opportunity to score, which
- 2:01Speaker 2: we were going to get, we had to put it away.
- 2:04Speaker 2: You have to capitalize when you're playing that team like that,
- 2:07Speaker 2: you're going to get chances. They're high pressure. You know,
- 2:10Speaker 2: we had three or four out numbered rushes and we
- 2:12Speaker 2: have to put you know, have to put them away,
- 2:13Speaker 2: and we did.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Twice, cracking out hitting Carolina thirty one to thirteen in
- 2:18Speaker 1: that game. I know that your your game is very
- 2:21Speaker 1: physical and you expect guys to be physical, but is
- 2:24Speaker 1: that an aspect of your game that maybe feels a
- 2:26Speaker 1: bit underrated with this team.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Well, it was a little bit. You can sort of
- 2:32Speaker 2: gauge it. I mean, we you know, adding Malanson into
- 2:34Speaker 2: the line app A Lexiak was physical the other night
- 2:37Speaker 2: for sure, you know. And you have to also keep
- 2:40Speaker 2: in mind that they had the puck more than we did,
- 2:42Speaker 2: so we were we were the seekers, you know, and
- 2:46Speaker 2: so we were probably going to get more hits in them.
- 2:48Speaker 2: They don't hit a lot anyway. They play on pressure,
- 2:50Speaker 2: so the fact that we out hit them wasn't a
- 2:53Speaker 2: surprise to me. But you know, our physicality and the
- 2:56Speaker 2: way we play, we need that. We need that on
- 2:59Speaker 2: a check and we need that to create turnovers and
- 3:02Speaker 2: then we work our offenses on play.
- 3:04Speaker 1: From that last week's game in Saint Louis, I know,
- 3:07Speaker 1: left a bad taste in your mouth and the mouths
- 3:09Speaker 1: of most guys in that locker room. When you go
- 3:11Speaker 1: back and watch the film of that game, what do
- 3:12Speaker 1: you want to see done better here? This sevening against St.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Louis, we have to control their rush play. They were
- 3:17Speaker 2: really good and it wasn't that we were really bad.
- 3:23Speaker 2: They just made us look bad. They did a really
- 3:26Speaker 2: good job of jumping into the play. Their defense can
- 3:28Speaker 2: skate really well, and you know, we've got to do
- 3:31Speaker 2: a better job of being above them because they just
- 3:35Speaker 2: came at us in waves at times. It wasn't like
- 3:37Speaker 2: we didn't get our opportunities. We had plenty opportunities to score.
- 3:41Speaker 2: So if we can clean up that side of it,
- 3:44Speaker 2: we'll still get our opportunities.
- 3:45Speaker 1: In situations like this, where you see a team that
- 3:47Speaker 1: you just lost to recently, do you feel that maybe
- 3:50Speaker 1: gives the losing team in this case, yourself, the advantage
- 3:53Speaker 1: because you know what you have to do to improve on,
- 3:56Speaker 1: and if you're the winning team, it can be easy
- 3:58Speaker 1: to say, well, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
- 4:00Speaker 1: And where do you feel that advantage may lie here tonight?
- 4:03Speaker 2: That's a great question. You know, it certainly does give
- 4:06Speaker 2: us an opportunity to make some improvements, but at the
- 4:09Speaker 2: end of the day, two teams are going out there,
- 4:11Speaker 2: and this is all about as you've heard me say
- 4:14Speaker 2: all year long, this is all about compete. So we
- 4:17Speaker 2: have to be very very competitive against this hockey team.
- 4:19Speaker 2: They're a good team.
