Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, let's get to Ryan Tedder. This guy, busy.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Brother from another mother. They cannot keep us apart.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Tate, McRae, new music, Housewife. Dude, what a great track.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Can you give us some background? How did you get,
- 0:14Speaker 1: weren't you just working on that last night?
- 0:16Speaker 2: We started this song back in like, I think February
- 0:19Speaker 2: or January. It was like the second or third session
- 0:21Speaker 2: for her next project we started. I had Julia Michaels
- 0:25Speaker 2: in the room, one of the all-time greats, my writer,
- 0:27Speaker 2: Grant Poutine, and me and Tate. And we were messing
- 0:30Speaker 2: around with an instrumental and I don't know if it
- 0:33Speaker 2: was Julia or Tate, but somebody just blurted out, um,
- 0:37Speaker 2: you know, I just, uh, I just want to make
- 0:40Speaker 2: a lot of money, be a good housewife as a,
- 0:42Speaker 2: and I heard it and started cracking up. I was like,
- 0:44Speaker 2: that is such a t-shirt like that. I'm kind of
- 0:47Speaker 2: one of the things I say, like with good songs,
- 0:49Speaker 2: I'll always say if the, if the tag or the
- 0:51Speaker 2: lyric or the course is right, I'll say that's a
- 0:52Speaker 2: t-shirt hook. And that means, like, you could take that sentence,
- 0:55Speaker 2: put it on a T-shirt, and people would probably wear it.
- 0:57Speaker 2: So when I heard that, I started laughing. And one
- 0:59Speaker 2: of the rules of songwriting is if a lyric makes
- 1:01Speaker 2: you laugh because of how absurd it is, it's probably
- 1:04Speaker 2: the right lyric. It's sticky. And that's kind of how
- 1:06Speaker 2: it started.
- 1:07Speaker 1: So Tedder says to me, Ryan Tedder here says to me,
- 1:09Speaker 1: he said one day he was telling me a story about,
- 1:11Speaker 1: was it Mission Impossible? Right? Mission Impossible 6, 8.
- 1:13Speaker 2: 9, 10. No, no, no. It was Top Gun. Top Gun.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Top Gun. Maverick. So he gets a call from Tom Cruise.
- 1:19Speaker 1: hey brother need a song you got anything how long
- 1:22Speaker 1: did it take you to come up with the song
- 1:23Speaker 1: after that phone call Uh.
- 1:25Speaker 2: He showed me the beach volleyball, football scene from top
- 1:27Speaker 2: gun too, from Maverick. And I had an, I, I
- 1:30Speaker 2: had an idea kind of right there. I mean, Miles
- 1:32Speaker 2: Taylor's abs, you know, the whole, the whole moment. And
- 1:34Speaker 2: I had an idea kind of right then. And the
- 1:37Speaker 2: next day it was exactly four hours. The next day
- 1:39Speaker 2: I sent him, I ain't worried. And I was like, Hey,
- 1:41Speaker 2: this song starts with a whistle. I hope you like whistling.
- 1:44Speaker 1: This is the track we're talking about here that he did.
- 1:46Speaker 1: That's so crazy.
- 1:48Speaker 2: He did that in hours.
- 1:49Speaker 1: All right, bro. I'll talk to you soon. Stay in touch.
