Latest / Six Figure Certified / How to Change Careers without Starting Over with Sarah Singer
Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: We need to stop holding such a kung fu grip on our like resume and consider I think this goes into the design thing like actually looking at how you want your life to go first and then saying how does my past experience contribute to that and like you just said, are there any gaps that I need to fill.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: because I actually feel like it's a lot easier to identify the gaps and fill them than to sit in a career that you're miserable in for another two, five, ten years.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, everyone.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome back to another episode of Six Figure Certified.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm your host, Liv Chapman, and we finally
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: Have a guest.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: Ever on sick of my solo episodes, I'm just kidding.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_01]: But I have a wonderful guest here today, Sarah Singer.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: Not only is she a certified professional coach and ICF coach and IGC graduate, but she has built her whole business around something that all of you guys asked me to talk about all the time, you asked me about in the comments.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: But like, how do you actually get into a second career
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of your past doesn't really make sense or if you're feeling you're kind of starting over and I feel like Sarah not only kind of did that in her own but she also helps people do that now So welcome to the show tell us about yourself
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks, Liv.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm glad to be here.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Sarah Singer.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: I am a career-life design and business coach.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: I will give some more context on my background, but in short, I come as Louvre was saying, from a very different camp in which I was doing non-profit leadership and management around mental health globally.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: and I have a background in public health and we'll get into the a pivot and all of those pieces around like design but now obviously I do coaching full-time.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: I've also had a privilege of being I'm juicy coach and being part of the community and going through the program.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to be giving birth to a baby girl in a few months.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: We're super excited.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's my first kid and I think it also pertains exactly to the episode and navigating another career and life transition.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: What it means for our life and business and creating space for this whole new chapter.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: So many directions with this episode, but I want to start first with kind of this, do you know how you they say like if you start thinking about a yellow car shows up everywhere so like I've had this experience inside of IGC and with a lot of our like YouTube
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: community and social media community where a lot of people are really struggling with this concept of like completely reinventing their life.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: And it's funny because I never thought that I was like completely reinventing my life when I pivoted from teaching to coaching.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: But a lot of people are budding up against this whole idea of like, but my resume says this and my LinkedIn says this and I know you just intrude yourself which would I would consider like not exactly a coaching type of background.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: So like what really made you realize you could do this and that you wanted to make this shift?
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think a few things were part of it.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, we had had this conversation, even five years ago, I would have never thought that I would be doing this now.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: So that's the first thing I will lead with is that it's not like I had this grand plan and vision.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: But career was very much in this like academic and on-profit leadership type camp with an amazing organization.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: I loved it for many many years that was
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: My purpose, my passion, I would always say it was my ikki guy, right, so if those don't you don't know what that concept is, it's the intersection between what you love to do, what the world needs, what you're good at and what you can be paid for.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: So I felt very in alignment with that for many years.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: And then, I was thinking about having a family and wanting something different and different flexibility, and I would use to do this crazy trouble, like go to Rwanda or Lydbigria for a week or two at a time, and I wanted to just have different flexibility and freedom and try new things.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: kind of hit a plateau.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: So I went in the spiritual personal explorative path, which I'm sure anyone listening has started to go down that rabbit hole, and I worked with the coach.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, the inroads to that coach was actually digital nomad coaching.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I'm working.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's a freedom.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: based lifestyle and turns out, she was a great marketer.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: What that meant, does that you would start your own business?
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like it didn't occur to me that in order to have more flexibility and freedom, one would need to maybe have a job outside of a traditional nine to five, but I realized that was part of what I was looking for, right?
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: So I went down that path and in that process, yeah, went through this realization of
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, do you have a lot of skills and strengths and expertise I could apply and what I really wanted, which I thought was going to be more of a therapist route when getting this PhD direction I was on path for was not to do that, but what's to do coaching and consulting, but it took me honestly like a year or two to.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: say that out loud, did you comfortable to acknowledge that I would have to go, you know, make these big pivots and go back to school and, you know, do everything in a different way than I had planned.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's so interesting.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like everyone, too, there's so many life events and things that happen that can kind of move people faster or more slowly.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like, when I talk to new students often, and they're like nervous, but they have time to put into their business, or
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: starting a business because of something horrible that happened or they get laid off unexpectedly and they have to like move really quickly and make money really quickly and like that was also kind of me like I had one summer that I could either get my business off the ground or I would have to go back to the classroom.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's kind of nice that you get to take a little bit more exploratory time and I think often what I hear and tell me if this resonates with you or not is like
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: There are maybe more so with your clients, not you, but there's a lot of people that spend a lot of time in the exploratory phase, but never actually go for it.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: And so was there something that was like, this is it?
- 6:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm going for it.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm all in.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think it took me maybe six months of like, doubling or not going all in, quote, unquote.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: I had a lot of personal things that I was navigating, like, major life events, travel, whatever it was.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: So at some point, I think, you know, six months, and I'm like, I need to take this more seriously.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that there was in a one big aha moment, but I would say it's a series of like, okay, now I'm gonna go all in and then the next step might have been, now I need to get certified.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_00]: And then honestly a year ago, I had another one of these moments where I thought I had been doing the work, but I think a lot of what I was doing is maybe being busy or,
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know, thinking I was productive in a lot of ways.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh, wait, stop.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: I know exactly what you mean.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: And I think we need to just pause on that note for a second, like thinking you're productive.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think that a lot of time people new in business without guidance or mentorship or being in some type of training community having a coach, like they're not, it's not that they're not doing anything, but there's this whole like faux productivity.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: I see, yeah, yeah, yeah, I was like, she's trying to make a word out of photo activity.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: I couldn't think of the words.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: My words just escape me sometimes.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that's a really big thing and the coaching angle, I'm like, what's actually in the way of you doing the work that you know would actually move things forward.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I'm going to most go through this with your clients all the time, too.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: 100%.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I, and that's why I said, like, I would be lying if I said, I didn't fall prey to it.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: But I think because I've been in that trap now, I can spot it so much more easily.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_00]: So I had that thought like a year ago.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_00]: And it came up because you wanted to start planning for a family and my husband wants to be able to have different shifts in his career And it's like am I going to take this seriously or not like this is the window to do this like I will have an ear I mean honestly, it was a bit of anxiety and pressure being placed on there But I think this holds whether or not someone's going to have a family it's like there might be other circumstances Maybe they need to put their kids through school or they want to make a move and like you get to an intersection where like am I going to take the seriously or not
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: And honestly, a lot of what I was spending my time on, and I'm curious, or take on this, where projects were other people's businesses, like doing some consulting in a way that was splitting my time just too much or, you know, charging or having too many offers.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I could give you a list of 10 things I was doing that were not actually important.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I got a different coach.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: I
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: level that's saying, okay, I don't need like a basic, how do we get started with your business coaching space?
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: I need, okay, how do we get to six figures?
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: How do we actually grow beyond that?
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: You know, hopefully shifted how I spent my time, and I really moved from doing projects externally to building things in my own, like my own podcast, my own offers, programs, communities.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: And actually stuck with them instead of having shiny objects in drum and switching, you know, every few months.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_01]: I have a rule like an IGC leadership where it's like, if we're going to try something or commit to something, it has to be a minimum of 90 days.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: So like, I'm not going to
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: create a new opt-in or a new marketing campaign or a new course even and not give it at least 90 days of 100% effort before I pull it out.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I think one of the problems that all humans get into when they're starting something new is that they don't get immediately results.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: And they're like, I got to switch it.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: I got to change it.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: I need to distract myself with something else when that's the exact opposite of what works I should say.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: So how do you encourage, I know you're the one interviewing me, but I'm just dying to know how do you stick with it?
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's what I'm still working on.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: Here's how.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: Because it's a standard that we set at the company and if I'm going to hold that standard for other
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: employees, contractors, team members, whatever.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: I have to hold it to myself.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I always say, and I get negative feedback on this because it's like, what do you mean you can't do it alone?
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, I couldn't do it alone.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think I would be able to hold that standard for myself without any type of accountability.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: I just took us on a journey too.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: No, that was good.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: Back to the question.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, but your question, that was the aha moment of like something
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: point.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: I was, do you feel like when you did that though when you were like, I'm going to take make the shift at things start happening at a faster pace or like, what?
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: How did it change your everyday?
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's skyrocketing.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like so much.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if that's a meeting because I don't think you'd say that.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, so much has changed day to day.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like much more grounded, confident.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: calm for the most part.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: I'm still like a overachiever kind of like, I wouldn't even say type any more.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like a type A minus B plus, but like, you know, I still have a lot of goals and things I want to do, but I'm able to stick with them much more.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: I started an in-person community, which was incredible with the friend where I live.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: I've started group coaching programs with a friend online, so that's been really nourishing.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: That's another hack.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's like partnering with someone on these things.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I also up my game with social media.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: I was avoiding that for years, but in doing the inner work that actually allowed me to just feel so much more comfortable and confident being seen online.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that was a huge shift as well.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for sharing that.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like all of those things.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: It sounds like, you know, when you list them out, it's like a lot, but at the same time, a lot of those things are happening because of getting support.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're like, where do I begin after listening to what Sarah shared, it's like, go get some support.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: So whether it's hiring a coach or joining some type of group program or community, like that is number one.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like when that happens, everything else becomes easier.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like,
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: have this like awareness to action to accountability pipeline, if you will, and it's like awareness and action going back and forth is fine, but without the accountability, you're usually teetering and not moving as quickly as you could forward.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I want to talk more about the coaching that you do now and I think a lot of people listening to this are trying to figure out how to take their old life and package it into a coaching career that feels professional.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_01]: aligned, respected, that's a huge one that we get.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: Like am I still going to am I going to lose respect by becoming a life coach and like how did you go from this, you know, super professional career and feel like really good about who you're coaching now.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: So I'll enter that in two parts one is personally and then.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: The second is how I help other people as you are saying this one thing that immediately came up is it was very hard in the beginning All of my colleagues and again, that's a unique situation.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's like a Harvard environment, but the people I'm seeing are getting PhDs or this or that film the blank right maybe you're in a law Environment maybe you're in corporate right there's some Ladder in which we're all climbing so I remember in the beginning I was embarrassed And my old boss had something to the effect when I was leaving like Sarah you know coaching is a legitimate
- 13:25[SPEAKER_00]: field like it's okay.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_00]: You can say that fast fast forward.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_00]: This cracks me up.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_00]: His wife is now coach.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: And it just like it makes me laugh so much like power to her, you know, but yeah, you're here.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: I am being so worried about what people think and then the reality is I think coaching is so applicable on relates to all these other industries.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: And
- 13:46[SPEAKER_00]: So if the first thing I would say, you know, how I was able to start to move through that, and then I think getting certified, I'm not just putting in a plug, but I genuinely think it's important to get certified and adapting another piece of advice.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: For my experience is adapting what were the skills and the strengths and the expertise that you have had at your prior career and then we're packaging it and repositioning it and there's a whole process that I take people through to identify where can you get started and then maybe where are their gaps we need to.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_00]: fill in.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so one example I love is an amazing client, past client and now friend, and when we first started, she wanted to switch her career and pivot.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: She didn't know what she wanted to do.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_00]: She just knew something was not working.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: She was also a teacher in that process.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_00]: She realized, some of her to me, right?
- 14:33[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, I didn't know why they were signing up for, but she realized in the giving herself permission and exploration, she wanted to go out on her own,
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: chapter of what we did together, as you wanted to take her skills and her strengths, which happened to be obviously an education, but she's done, she does personal training and fitness, and she has all of these incredible gifts and skills in the health field.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: A fun thing we did was at one point we did like a short barter in between visual coaching, and I was one of her beta clients,
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: build out her offer.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: And then she, you know, did some practical things with me.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I got to actually like experience the power of the work and help her in a fun way.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know, we transition to more, you know, legit a bit package again, right.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: I share that as an example because sometimes you need like a safe person to just try something with.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: And she, you know, she got some beta clients after that with other people.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_00]: And now she's left teaching.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_00]: It took her two years.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: We're talking about how long it takes people.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: She's really left seeing.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_00]: She has gone to business with her sister.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_00]: She has an in person studio in Boston.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's crazy.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: They're starting this month.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: She's going to be on my podcast because I'm so proud of her and excited for her.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_00]: And she and her sister have this beautiful practice, including she's partnering with people.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: She's my own group coaching communities and
- 16:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a perfect example, right?
- 16:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, and she got training along the way.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_00]: She had the skills and fitness and health.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_00]: There were some gaps she needed to be certified.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_00]: So she didn't get that done.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: And two years later, now she's officially going all in on her cell.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: I love that story and I appreciate you sharing that and we'll of course tag your podcast in there because I'm sure this resonates in someone wants the full story, but it goes to this thing where it's like, we need to stop holding such a kung fu grip on our like resume and.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_01]: Consider, I think this goes into the design thing, like actually looking at how you want your life to go first.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_01]: And then saying, how does my past experience contribute to that?
- 16:47[SPEAKER_01]: And like you just said, are there any gaps that I need to fill?
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: Because I actually feel like it's a lot easier to identify the gaps and fill them
- 17:01[SPEAKER_00]: totally.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it's not such a big pivot.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think we actually were preparing for her podcast yesterday and chatting and one thing she had highlighted was that she's really excited about to this conversation is she always wanted to do something in teaching and education.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_00]: She just didn't like the application of it as a standard teacher in my whole life.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's okay.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: So that was the message she wanted to convey, right?
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a mix of that and then it's a mix of the deeper internal work
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: and pauses in gender perfectionism, whatever it is, right?
- 17:32[SPEAKER_00]: And then the strategy of what's you're offered.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, I think there's more creativity we can have and give ourselves credit for, but we put ourselves in these boxes.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: We're think that it has to be one way or another.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: So, what I like to say is it's just broadening the aperture even like one to five percent of other possibilities.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_01]: Someone DMed me every day that she's like starting her own business.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing to do with coaching or consulting or anything like that, totally different.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, so I just wanted to ask you, like, do you just kind of have to be borderline delusional every day?
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: Or, and I was like 13 years later, kind of, like you have to just always be like, you know, what things can go wrong, things are all over the place.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_01]: But,
- 18:16[SPEAKER_01]: I'm still going to believe in myself today, at least enough to get the basics done.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_01]: I want to talk lastly about this idea of messy action.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: Great.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: What does that mean to you?
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: I know you spent years.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_01]: You had made an analogy in our previous conversation around like little gnomes waiting on the little gnomes.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like we have to talk about the little gnomes.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: In my mind, for years, literally a decade, I would imagine these little gnomes would come down and be like, Sarah, it's time to get your PhD.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's time to go to whatever graduate school.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_00]: Now you're going to get this promotion.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to make the move whatever it was.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I would just, I mean, I think the code for it was like,
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: an external thing or person or someone telling you what to do.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_00]: Because I had such a hard time making decisions to the point that my best friends made of honor, speech, and our wedding was about how indecisive I was on everything.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my gosh, yeah, except my husband.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: What's the premise of the speech?
- 19:17[SPEAKER_01]: I was actually really sweet.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but it's also like, that's got to be a clinical issue.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: If she's bringing that in to the speech, you don't like everybody knows.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you're perfect.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's funny.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, five, that would have been five years ago.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_00]: the spoiler that Nome's never came.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of the point, right?
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: And I would like analyze and just have such a hard time making decisions with my career.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: I remember sitting on one of my friends' couches that happened to be a therapist.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: Just be like, Emma, what do I do with my life?
- 19:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, lady.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_00]: make a decision.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you know, you got a decide.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so I think at some point I just got sick of that.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_00]: So the biggest hack in the shift for me has been become becoming comfortable taking quote, mess the action, right?
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: I know that this is like a common term we might hear people have different words for it, but the idea is just learning to be in the gray, not having a black and white decision.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_00]: Another way I think about it is like, is it a two-way door, one-way door,
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: trying something and building it in real time.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_00]: So like a concrete example would be, okay, deciding to start a new coaching program.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like if you want to try a new offer that you would lead, I started my group coaching program probably a little earlier quote than I was ready.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I built it as I went.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_00]: And I had a safe group of people that I felt connected with and was able to get their feedback and build it as I go.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_00]: And that was pretty messy action.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think five years ago, I would have waited until,
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: I had every module planned out, and I had a whole perfect launch in, like, little shifts like that have really changed my life and how I approach things.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_00]: And then it has allowed me from the action to get the clarity.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's what I was always missing.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, that's something I talk about a lot in like our free training is that.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_01]: I think we have this idea that we have to wait until we're confident enough to start something and that's the opposite of like the confidence comes from taking action.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_01]: Now obviously if you are in some type of training or mentorship like your action can be a little bit more aligned to the target that you're trying to reach because you have someone guiding you or teaching you or supporting you but any action is going to be better than no action or in action
- 21:32[SPEAKER_01]: and expecting confidence to be delivered by a gnome.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: It took eight to ten years of waiting for these guys to show up.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_00]: They never did.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's like I had to make the decision in the action myself.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'm always going to think of you when I see a gnome now, and that's a compliment.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be my reminder of like, no, you are in the driver's seat of your own life.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_01]: You have to take action.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: You have to make a decision to actually be the person that you're becoming, which is hard.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's so hard.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I will say on that, I definitely have had my periods of freeze, burn out, or taking no action.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I think you just get to, I've gone to a point where it's like, this is just not working anymore.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: I did this thing where I was like bargaining with God.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, please stop teaching me lessons through like horrible events.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like, can I learn them through joy?
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, no Olivia, you're very stubborn.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: And you probably will never learn them through joy.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_01]: But nice try.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: Here's the wrap-up I want to do.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_01]: Since you are one, an IGC grad, an ICF credentialed coach, Sarah's also trained with us.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: She's wonderful.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe she'll come back after the baby.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's just the seed I'm planting.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_01]: But you also have been successful in your business pretty quickly.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like once you went all in, clients, programs, podcasts.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: So I wanna ask you, new little rapid fire.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to give you some things and you are going to tell me in this lightning round, is this necessary or not necessary, if you want to build a six-figure coaching business?
- 23:03[SPEAKER_00]: Ooh, that's fun.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_00]: I like to create it.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_00]: Or do you not need it?
- 23:08[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: Number one, uh, fully done website.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_00]: I knew you were going to start that.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: I just, my mind too, I've been actually going to ask.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: No, tip.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_00]: I used to, I taught my clients card.com.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, and I'm sure AI has better ones,
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I don't even know what that is.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_01]: OK, so no fully done professionally created website.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_01]: OK, CRM or a fancy tech stack.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_01]: My husband works at HubSpot, and I would say, no, you can use an Excel.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_01]: OK, so that's obviously a valid answer because she's going on to be.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: OK, large social media following.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: Post on social media every day.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_01]: No, super-specific niche.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I know.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think you need to be somewhat clear with the out.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I do feel like just being, quote, general mindset, live code with no specificity is going to be hard.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_00]: We want to think about what type of, you know?
- 23:59[SPEAKER_01]: What's the problem people are willing to pay to have that?
- 24:01[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I do feel that.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_01]: A group coaching program.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: A large email list.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: Payed ads.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_01]: Definitely not.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, I would say yes.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: A signature framework or method.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: No, because you'll create one as you go.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a podcast.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: No, a funnel.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_00]: No, but I will say, when I learned about funnels that was helpful, I understood, but if you don't need it, being comfortable, being comfortable selling.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, being really, really freaking good at coaching.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that's all I got.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_00]: Those are great.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_00]: Good job.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_00]: That was fun.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: I was wondering what you were going to say about a couple of them, honestly, because I know you have a group coaching program, but I'm always like, that's the next step.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: Fill your one on one and then do your group.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I didn't have one.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_00]: This one, my start is why I said no.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's been great, but it's not needed.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I thank you so much for being here.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like this was a super valuable episode.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_01]: Did you know I had a pug on my left?
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: She always knows when I'm wrapping up and she makes an appearance.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, thank you for being here.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: I want you to just drop your, um, tell us where to find you on social media and on your pot and the name of your podcast again.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: We'll link everything in the notes.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_00]: My Instagram is Sarah FC singer and my podcast is lights your adventure with Sarah singer.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: It is on Apple Spotify and
- 25:34[SPEAKER_00]: with tons of guests episodes and soul episodes and lots of value packs.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_00]: So if you enjoyed this, chuck that out.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and we're going to go back and listen to that episode with your client.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's going to be super helpful for everyone.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: So thank you so much for being here.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: I hope you have an amazing rest of your pregnancy.

- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks, live.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: Bye guys.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
