- 0:47Welcome to the Daily Audio Torah. Today is September
- 0:5116th. Now let's continue
- 0:55our journey reading through the entire Bible in 1 year.
- 0:59This week we are reading from the New Living Translation for the Old Testament and
- 1:03for the New Testament.
- 1:08Deuteronomy 28:1-20.
- 1:14If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully keep all his commands that
- 1:18I am giving you today, The Lord your God will set you high above
- 1:22all the nations of the world. You will experience all these
- 1:26blessings if you obey the Lord your God.
- 1:30Your towns and your fields will be blessed. Your children
- 1:34and your crops will be blessed. The offspring
- 1:37of your herds and flocks will be blessed.
- 1:40Your fruit baskets and breadboards will be blessed.
- 1:44Wherever you go and whatever you do, you will be blessed.
- 1:48The Lord will conquer your enemies when they attack you.
- 1:52They will attack you from one direction, but they will scatter from
- 1:56you in 7. The Lord will
- 2:00guarantee a blessing on everything you do and will fill your
- 2:04storehouses with grain. The Lord your God will bless you in
- 2:08the land He is giving you. If you obey the
- 2:11commands of the Lord your God and walk in His ways, The Lord
- 2:15will establish you as His holy people, as He swore He would.
- 2:20Then all the nations of the world will see that you are
- 2:24a people claimed by the Lord,
- 2:27and they will stand in awe of you. The Lord
- 2:31will give you prosperity in the land He swore to your ancestors
- 2:35to give you, blessing you with many children, numerous livestock,
- 2:39and abundant crops. The Lord will send rain
- 2:43at the proper time from His rich treasury in the heavens and
- 2:47will bless all the work you do. You will lend
- 2:51to many nations, but you will never need to borrow from them.
- 2:55If you listen to these commands of the Lord your God that I am giving
- 2:58you today, and if you carefully obey them,
- 3:02the Lord will make you the head and not the tail,
- 3:05and you will always be on top. And never at the bottom.
- 3:10You must not turn away from any of the commands I am giving
- 3:14you today, nor follow after other gods and worship
- 3:17them. But if you refuse to
- 3:22listen to the Lord your God and do not obey all the commands and decrees
- 3:26I am giving you today, all these curses will come and
- 3:29overwhelm you. Your towns and your fields will be
- 3:33cursed. Your fruit baskets and breadboards will be cursed.
- 3:38Your children and your crops will be cursed.
- 3:42The offspring of your herds and flocks will be cursed.
- 3:46Wherever you go and whatever you do, you will be cursed.
- 3:51The Lord himself will send on you curses,
- 3:53confusion, and frustration in everything you do,
- 3:57until at last you are completely destroyed
- 4:01for doing evil and abandoning me.
- 4:10Isaiah 22:1-24:23.
- 4:19This message came to me, Isaiah, concerning Jerusalem.
- 4:24What is happening? Why is everyone running to the rooftops?
- 4:28The whole city is in a terrible uproar. What do I see in
- 4:32this reveling city? Bodies are lying everywhere,
- 4:35killed by famine and disease. All your leaders flee.
- 4:40They surrender without resistance. The people try to slip away,
- 4:43but they are captured too. Leave me alone to weep.
- 4:47Do not try to comfort me. Let me cry for my people
- 4:51as I watch them being destroyed. Oh, what a day
- 4:55of crushing trouble! What a day of confusion and terror
- 4:59the Lord, the Lord Almighty, has brought upon the Valley of Vision.
- 5:02The walls of Jerusalem have been broken, and cries of death
- 5:07echo from the mountainsides. Elamites are
- 5:11the archers; Arameans drive the chariots; the men of Ker hold
- 5:16up the shields. They fill your beautiful valleys and crowd against your gates.
- 5:20Judah's defenses have been stripped away. You run to the
- 5:24armory for your weapons. You inspect the walls of Jerusalem
- 5:29to see what needs to be repaired. You store up water in the lower
- 5:32pool. You check the houses and tear some down to get
- 5:36stone to fix the walls. Between the city walls you build
- 5:40a reservoir for water from the old pool. But all your feverish
- 5:45plans are to no avail because you never ask God
- 5:50for help. He is the one who planned
- 5:53this long ago. The Lord,
- 5:57the Lord Almighty called you to weep and mourn.
- 6:01He told you to shave your heads in sorrow for your sins
- 6:06and to wear clothes of sackcloth to show your remorse.
- 6:10But instead you dance and play, you slaughter sacrificial
- 6:14animals, feast on meat and drink wine.
- 6:18Let's eat, drink, and be merry, you say. What's the difference?
- 6:21For tomorrow we die. The Lord Almighty
- 6:25has revealed to me that this sin will never be forgiven you until
- 6:29the day you die. That is the judgment of the Lord,
- 6:33the Lord Almighty. Furthermore, the Lord, the Lord Almighty told
- 6:38me to confront Shebna, the palace administrator,
- 6:41and to give him this message: Who do you think you are,
- 6:44building a beautiful tomb for yourself in the rock? For the Lord
- 6:49is about to seize you and hurl you away.
- 6:53He is going to send you into captivity, you strong man.
- 6:56He will crumple you into a ball and toss you away
- 6:59into a distant, barren land. There you will die,
- 7:03and there your glorious chariots will remain broken and
- 7:06useless. You are a disgrace to your master.
- 7:11Yes, I will drive you out of office, says the Lord. I will
- 7:14pull you down from your high position. And then I
- 7:18will call my servant Eliakim son of Hilkiah to
- 7:22replace you. He will have your royal robes, your title,
- 7:25and your authority, and he will be a father to the people of Jerusalem
- 7:29and Judah. I will give him the key to the
- 7:33house of David, the highest position in the royal court.
- 7:37He will open doors and no one will be able to shut them.
- 7:41He will close doors and no one will be able to open them.
- 7:45He will bring honor to his family name, for I will drive him firmly
- 7:50in place like a tent stake. He will be loaded down
- 7:54with responsibility, and he will bring honor to even the
- 7:58lowest members of his family. The Lord Almighty
- 8:02says, when that time comes, I will pull out the stake that
- 8:06seemed so firm. It will come out and fall to the ground.
- 8:10Everything it supports will fall with it. I, the Lord,
- 8:14have spoken. This message came to me concerning
- 8:19Tyre: Weep, O ships of Tarshish
- 8:22returning home from distant lands! Weep for your
- 8:27harbor at Tyre, because it is gone! The rumors you heard in Cyprus
- 8:31are all true. Mourn in silence, you people
- 8:35of the coast and you merchants of Sidon! Your traders
- 8:39crossed the sea, sailing over deep waters.
- 8:43They brought you grain from Egypt and harvests from along the
- 8:46Nile. You were the merchandise mart of the
- 8:49world. But now you are put to shame,
- 8:53city of Sidon, fortress on the sea, where the sea says,
- 8:58now I am childless, I have no sons or daughters.
- 9:02When Egypt hears the news about Tyre, There will be great
- 9:05sorrow. Lean now to Tarshish. Wail,
- 9:09you people who live by the sea! How can this silent ruin
- 9:13be all that is left of your once joyous city?
- 9:18What a history was yours! Think of all the colonists
- 9:22you sent to distant lands. Who has brought this disaster on Tyre,
- 9:26empire builder and chief trader of the world?
- 9:29The Lord Almighty has done it to destroy your pride and show His
- 9:33contempt. For all human greatness.
- 9:38Come, Tarshish, sweep over your mother Tyre like
- 9:42the flooding Nile, for the city is defenseless.
- 9:46The Lord holds out his hand over the seas.
- 9:50He shakes the kingdoms of the earth. He has spoken out
- 9:54against Phoenicia and depleted its strength. He says,
- 9:58never again will you rejoice. O daughter of Sidon!
- 10:03Once you were a lovely city, but you will never again be
- 10:07strong. Even if you flee to Cyprus, you will find
- 10:11no rest. Look at the land of Babylon!
- 10:16The people of that land are gone. The Assyrians
- 10:20have handed Babylon over to the wild beasts.
- 10:23They have built siege ramps against its walls. Torn down
- 10:27its palaces, and turned it into a heap of rubble.
- 10:32Wail, O ships of Tarshish, for your home port
- 10:36is destroyed! For 70
- 10:40years, the length of a king's life, Tyre will be forgotten.
- 10:44But then the city will come back to life and sing sweet songs
- 10:48like a prostitute long absent from her lovers.
- 10:52She will take a harp walk the streets and sing her songs so
- 10:56that she will again be remembered. Yes,
- 10:59after 70 years, the Lord will revive Tyre,
- 11:03but she will be no different than she was before.
- 11:07She will return again to all her evil ways around the world.
- 11:14But in the end, her businesses will give their profits to the
- 11:17Lord. Her wealth will not be hoarded but
- 11:21will be used to provide good food and fine clothing for the Lord's
- 11:25priests. Look! The Lord is
- 11:28about to destroy the earth and make it a vast wasteland.
- 11:32See how He is scattering the people over the face
- 11:35of the earth— priests and laypeople, servants and masters, maids and
- 11:39mistresses, buyers and sellers, lenders and borrowers,
- 11:43bankers and debtors, None will be spared.
- 11:49The earth will be completely emptied and looted.
- 11:52The Lord has spoken. The earth dries up, the crops wither,
- 11:57the skies refuse to rain. The earth suffers
- 12:00for the sins of its people, for they have twisted the instructions
- 12:04of God, violated His laws, and broken
- 12:08His everlasting covenant.
- 12:11Therefore, a curse consumes the earth and its
- 12:15people. They are left desolate, destroyed by
- 12:19fire. Few will be left alive.
- 12:24All the joys of life will be gone. The grape harvest
- 12:28will fail and there will be no wine. The merrymakers will sigh and mourn.
- 12:33The clash of tambourines will be stilled. The happy cries of
- 12:36celebration will be heard no more. The melodious chords
- 12:40of the harp will be silent.
- 12:45Gone are the joys of wine and song.
- 12:48Strong drink now turns bitter in the mouth.
- 12:52The city writhes in chaos. Every home is locked
- 12:56to keep out looters. Mobs gather in the streets,
- 13:00crying out for wine. Joy has reached its lowest
- 13:03ebb. Gladness has been banished from the land. The city
- 13:08is left in ruins with its gates battered down.
- 13:11Throughout the earth, the story is the same.
- 13:14Like the stray olives left on the tree or the few grapes
- 13:18left on the vine after harvest, only a remnant is
- 13:22left. But all who are left will shout and
- 13:27sing for joy. Those in the west will praise
- 13:30the Lord's majesty, and eastern lands give glory to
- 13:34the Lord. In the coastlands of the sea, praise the name of the
- 13:38Lord, the God of Israel. Listen to them as they sing to
- 13:41the Lord from the ends of the earth. Hear them singing
- 13:45praises to the Righteous One. But my heart
- 13:48is heavy with grief. I am discouraged,
- 13:52for evil still prevails and treachery is everywhere.
- 13:56Terror and traps and snares will be your lot, you people of
- 14:00the earth. Those who flee in terror will fall into a trap,
- 14:04and those who escape the trap will step into a snare.
- 14:08Destruction falls on you from the heavens. The world is
- 14:11shaken beneath you. The earth has broken down and has utterly
- 14:16collapsed. Everything is lost, abandoned,
- 14:19and confused. The earth staggers like a drunkard.
- 14:23It trembles like a tent in a storm. It falls and
- 14:27will not rise again, for its sins are very great.
- 14:33In that day, the Lord will punish the fallen angels in
- 14:37the heavens and the proud rulers of the nations on
- 14:41the earth. They will be rounded up and put in prison until they
- 14:45are tried and condemned. Then the Lord Almighty will mount
- 14:49his throne in Mount Zion. He will rule
- 14:52gloriously in Jerusalem in the sight of all
- 14:56the leaders of his people. There will be such glory that
- 15:00the brightness of the sun and moon will seem to fade away.
- 15:06Galatians 2:17-3:9.
- 15:10But what if we, Paul and other believers,
- 15:13seek to be made right with God through faith in Christ
- 15:17and then find out that we are still sinners? Has Christ led
- 15:22us into sin? Of course not! Rather, I make myself
- 15:26guilty if I rebuild the old system I already
- 15:30tore down. For when I tried to keep the Law,
- 15:35I realized I could never earn God's approval.
- 15:40So I died to the Law so that I might live for
- 15:44God. I have been crucified with Christ.
- 15:49I myself no longer live, but Christ lives in me.
- 15:52So I live my life in this earthly body by trusting
- 15:56in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself
- 16:00for me. I am not one of those who
- 16:04treats the grace of God as meaningless.
- 16:08For if we could be saved by keeping the Law, then there would be
- 16:12no need for Christ to die.
- 16:18O foolish Galatians! What magician
- 16:22has cast an evil spell on you? For you used to see
- 16:26the meaning of Jesus Christ's death as clearly as though I had shown you a
- 16:31signboard with a picture of Christ dying on the cross.
- 16:35Let me ask you this one question: Did you
- 16:38receive the Holy Spirit by keeping the Law? Of course not!
- 16:42For the Holy Spirit came upon you only after you believed the message
- 16:46you heard about Christ, Have you lost your senses?
- 16:50After starting your Christian lives in the Spirit, why are
- 16:55you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort?
- 17:01You have suffered so much for the Good News. Surely it
- 17:05was not in vain, was it? Are you now going to just
- 17:09throw it all away? I ask you again, does God
- 17:13give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the
- 17:17Law of Moses? Of course not! It is because
- 17:21you believed the message you heard about Christ.
- 17:25In the same way Abraham believed God, so God declared
- 17:29him righteous because of his faith. The real
- 17:33children of Abraham, then, are all those who put their
- 17:37faith in Christ. What's more, the Scriptures
- 17:41looked forward to this time when God would accept the
- 17:44Gentiles too, on the basis of their faith.
- 17:48God promised this good news to Abraham long ago
- 17:52when He said, all nations will
- 17:56be blessed through you. And so it is.
- 18:00All who put their faith in Christ share the same blessing
- 18:04that Abraham received because of his faith.
- 18:13Psalm 60:1-12.
- 18:17You have rejected us, O God, and broken our defenses.
- 18:20You have been angry with us; now restore us to Your favor.
- 18:25You have shaken our land and split it open; seal
- 18:28the cracks before it completely collapses. You have
- 18:32been very hard on us, making us drink wine that sent
- 18:37us reeling. But You have raised a banner for those who honor
- 18:40You, a rallying point in the face of attack.
- 18:45Use Your strong arm to save us and rescue Your
- 18:49beloved people. God has promised this by His holiness:
- 18:53I will divide up Shechem with joy. I will
- 18:56measure out the Valley of Sukkot. Gilead is Mine,
- 19:00and Manasseh is Mine. Ephraim will produce My warriors,
- 19:04and Judah will produce My kings. Moab will become my
- 19:08lowly servant, and Edom will be my slave.
- 19:12I will shout in triumph over the Philistines.
- 19:16But who will bring me into the fortified city? Who will bring
- 19:20me victory over Edom? Have you rejected
- 19:23us, O God? Will you no longer march with our armies?
- 19:27Oh, please help us against our enemies, for all human
- 19:31help is useless. With God's help,
- 19:35we will do mighty things, for He will trample down our foes.
- 19:42Proverbs 23:15-16. My child,
- 19:47how I will rejoice if you become wise!
- 19:50Yes, my heart will thrill when
- 19:54you speak what is right and just.
- 20:01I want to speak to you today from our reading from Galatians chapter 2
- 20:05and part of chapter 3, and we are continuing on
- 20:09our pursuit with intimacy with
- 20:13Christ. And Paul is identifying
- 20:17for us a huge barrier to having
- 20:21that intimate love relationship with Christ.
- 20:25He says in Galatians 2:18,
- 20:28rather, I make myself guilty if I rebuild the
- 20:32old system I already tore down. For when I tried
- 20:36to keep the law, I realized I
- 20:39could never earn God's approval. So I died
- 20:43to the law so that I might live for God.
- 20:48So let me paint a picture for you. Suppose that you are now
- 20:51married to somebody, and this person is Mr.
- 20:55Law. You are married to Mr. Law. And every time
- 21:00you mess up, you sin, you make a mistake, you fall off
- 21:03the horse, so to speak, he's right there with a big stick,
- 21:08and he hits you over the head with the stick, and he says, you screwed
- 21:12up. You blew it. You're wrong. You're bad. You're wicked.
- 21:15You're evil. You'll never get it right.
- 21:19And so Mr. Law constantly beats you over the head
- 21:23with a stick, with condemnation and accusation,
- 21:26and you can never ever please. But you love him so very,
- 21:30very, very much. You just think, I've just got
- 21:34to try harder. And so you get back on the horse and you keep on
- 21:37trying. You keep on working and trying to earn
- 21:41his favor, his love, and his affection. But you keep falling off the
- 21:45horse over and over and over again, and he keeps beating you over the
- 21:49head with a big stick with condemnation and
- 21:53accusation. And finally,
- 21:57you end up divorced from
- 22:01Mr. Law, and many years go by,
- 22:05and finally the Lord wants to do something new in
- 22:09your life. He wants to restore that which is broken and hurting
- 22:13and wounded, and He sends you a new husband.
- 22:17You fall in love with this new husband, and His name is Mr.
- 22:22Christ. And the old ways,
- 22:26the old way of relating is completely gone. And Mr. Christ,
- 22:30when you fall off the horse, He's right there to say, oh,
- 22:34I see you Bell,
- 22:37here, let me give you my hand and help you up. Here,
- 22:41let me help you mount back up onto the horse. Let me
- 22:45help you continue in your journey. I'm here to walk with you,
- 22:48and I'm here to support you and help you. And He's
- 22:52full of mercy. He's full of kindness. He's full
- 22:57of forgiveness.
- 23:00Which man do you want to be married to? Mr.
- 23:04Law or Mr. Christ?
- 23:08So Paul wants us to have that marriage intimate
- 23:11relationship with Mr. Christ, but the Galatians
- 23:15back then, and so many of us even today,
- 23:19they are falling back into trying to
- 23:23be married to Mr. Law. He says, why would you
- 23:27tear down and Why would you want to rebuild the old system that has already
- 23:32been torn down? He says, I myself
- 23:35no longer live, but Christ lives in me.
- 23:40So I live my life in this earthly body
- 23:44by trusting in the Son of God who loved me
- 23:48and gave Himself for me.
- 23:52It's a love relationship. Not a rule-based
- 23:56relationship, not a performance-based
- 24:00relationship, not an obedience-based relationship.
- 24:05He's calling us into a love relationship.
- 24:11Paul goes on to say, for if we could be saved by keeping
- 24:14the law, then there was no need for Christ
- 24:18to die He strongly exhorts
- 24:21them, oh foolish Galatians, what magician has
- 24:25cast an evil spell on you where you used to see
- 24:29the meaning of Jesus Christ's death as clearly as
- 24:32though I had shown you a signboard with a picture of Christ dying on
- 24:36the cross? After starting your Christian lives
- 24:40in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by
- 24:44your own human effort.
- 24:49It would be like, now you're married to Mr.
- 24:52Christ. He is your husband. He's full of mercy and
- 24:56kindness and love for you and
- 25:00forgiveness. And then it's like you think, oh,
- 25:04I need to go back to my first husband. I'm going to leave Mr.
- 25:08Christ now, and I'm going to go back to Mr. Law and and, and try
- 25:12to please him.
- 25:16That would be insanity. Jesus calls
- 25:20us into this love relationship.
- 25:24It's not based on works. It's not based on performance.
- 25:28It's not based on obedience. He wants us to
- 25:31love him with all of our heart, mind, soul,
- 25:34and strength, and everything else will flow out
- 25:38of that. It will all flow, but the very first
- 25:43thing is He wants us to simply love Him.
- 25:50May you and I climb higher that
- 25:54mountain, Mount Zion, for Jesus is
- 25:58at the top of that mountain. May we seek Him with
- 26:02all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength.
- 26:05And may we walk in love.
- 26:09May we fall in love with Him all
- 26:14over again. He is crazy in love
- 26:18with you, beloved. May we love
- 26:22Him back. Have a
- 26:27blessed day, and we'll see you tomorrow.
- 26:35Adonai,
- 26:40we wish America.
- 26:49Yeah, yeah,
- 26:51Adonai,
- 26:56anavilka.
- 27:00We connect.
- 27:33The Aaronic Blessing from Numbers chapter 6, 24 to
- 27:3826. Adonai bless you and
- 27:42keep you. Adonai make his face to shine
- 27:45upon you and be gracious to you.
- 27:48Adonai lift up his countenance upon you and
- 27:52give you peace.
