- 0:00Speaker 1: I just wish that the government was willing to regulate
- 0:03Speaker 1: AI as much as they're willing to regulate my uterus.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Well, if your uterus could make cool videos of if
- 0:13Speaker 2: it could put boobs on Goofy and make him dance
- 0:16Speaker 2: or something, I don't know.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Hey, don't assume my uterus can't do that. You don't
- 0:19Speaker 1: know what my uterus can and cannot do. You don't
- 0:22Speaker 1: know what I've been practicing at home.
- 0:23Speaker 2: I just mansplained your uterus.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Yeah, how dare you?
- 0:26Speaker 2: I'm so sorry. Hello and welcome to The Precap, a
- 0:30Speaker 2: Daily Show podcast where we sit down with this week's
- 0:32Speaker 2: host to recap some of the latest news and preview
- 0:35Speaker 2: what's coming up this week on The Daily Show. I'm
- 0:39Speaker 2: Matt O'Brien, a writer and producer at Said Daily Show,
- 0:43Speaker 2: and I'm here. Thank you.
- 0:44Speaker 1: You're welcome.
- 0:46Speaker 2: With this week's host, the lovely Desi Lydic.
- 0:50Speaker 1: That is how you pronounce it.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Desi Lydic.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Yes.
- 0:52Speaker 2: All right. Welcome, Desi Lydic, everyone.
- 0:54Speaker 1: It took you 10 months to get that right, but
- 0:57Speaker 1: here we are.
- 0:57Speaker 2: This is the second time we've ever spoken.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Yeah. What's your name again? Matt.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Yes. O'Brien.
- 1:03Speaker 1: That's right.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I am a big hit on the pre-cap.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Yes. So I hear. Mm-hmm. I'm going to call you Devin,
- 1:09Speaker 1: because that's what makes me feel more comfortable. Devin, okay. Yeah,
- 1:11Speaker 1: do you mind if I just call you Devin?
- 1:12Speaker 2: It honestly makes me feel more comfortable, too. He's got such... Devin,
- 1:15Speaker 2: of course, another writer. Everybody loves him.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Everyone loves Devin.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Not as divisive as me.
- 1:20Speaker 1: No, no.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Sure, call me Devin. Let's start with some kickoff banter.
- 1:27Speaker 2: How about that?
- 1:28Speaker 1: Oh, is this where we do kickoff banter?
- 1:30Speaker 2: Let's do some kickoff banter. Desi, did you have a
- 1:32Speaker 2: good time at the Emmys?
- 1:33Speaker 1: Oh, I'm so glad you brought it up. Because if
- 1:35Speaker 1: you didn't, I was about to. I can't shut up
- 1:37Speaker 1: about it.
- 1:37Speaker 2: It's the one thing the public likes hearing is us
- 1:39Speaker 2: attending award shows.
- 1:41Speaker 1: It's so relatable.
- 1:42Speaker 2: It's so relatable.
- 1:43Speaker 1: It's why we do it, for the accolades.
- 1:46Speaker 2: And the stories.
- 1:47Speaker 1: And the stories.
- 1:48Speaker 2: To fill airtime. Did you have a good time in L.A.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I did have a good time in LA. I took
- 1:52Speaker 1: a very good friend of mine as my date, Stephen Bowman,
- 1:55Speaker 1: who I don't get as much time with as I'd like.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Big fan of the pre-cap.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Big, loves the pre-cap. I hope he's listening right now.
- 2:02Speaker 1: He better be. If he's any kind of friend to me,
- 2:04Speaker 1: he would be.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:06Speaker 1: And I had a great time.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Oh, great.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:08Speaker 2: It was fun.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Yeah. Did you have a nice time?
- 2:10Speaker 2: I did. I went with my wife. Sorry, ladies. Wow.
- 2:14Speaker 2: We're going to hear about it in the comments.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 2:16Speaker 2: What a sigh.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Yeah. Your wife, who is the most beautiful woman on
- 2:20Speaker 1: the planet. What kind of magic did you.
- 2:23Speaker 2: That's very nice of you. Oh, thank you. Yeah, she's... Trickery.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Well, the compliment wasn't for you. It was for your wife. Yeah.
- 2:30Speaker 2: I guess I conflated it as that a very beautiful
- 2:34Speaker 2: woman would choose. You know, so therefore it was... Do
- 2:39Speaker 2: you understand why I was glomming on? You both are
- 2:42Speaker 2: lucky to.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Have one another.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Hey, thank you very much.
- 2:45Speaker 1: She's lovely, though.
- 2:46Speaker 2: She's truly lovely. I am going to make her listen
- 2:51Speaker 2: to this for the first time.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Good. She doesn't enjoy listening or watching your work?
- 2:56Speaker 2: No.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Not typically? No. Does she enjoy Devin's work?
- 3:01Speaker 2: She loves Devin. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They are happier than ever. Oh, good.
- 3:05Speaker 2: They have a beautiful family. Yes. Oh, my goodness. Well,
- 3:10Speaker 2: let's get into the news.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Oh, already?
- 3:13Speaker 2: What did we miss?
- 3:15Speaker 1: Well, a lot of news over the weekend.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Over the weekend, a lot. So let's start with CNN
- 3:19Speaker 2: and MSNOW and Politico, those journalists being denied White House access.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Is it crazy that I kind of forgot that Politico
- 3:27Speaker 1: was still around?
- 3:29Speaker 2: Yes. I feel like everybody's like, oh, my God, CNN
- 3:33Speaker 2: and MSNOW and Politico.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Oh, no.
- 3:37Speaker 2: What are we going to do without Politico?
- 3:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Sorry, Politico.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Yeah. This is crazy, though. This is big.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Yes. Aside from maybe First Amendment issues.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Yeah, all that aside.
- 3:51Speaker 2: All of that aside.
- 3:52Speaker 1: First Amendment aside.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Authoritarian control of information.
- 3:55Speaker 1: State run media.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I think it's going to be a careful what you
- 3:59Speaker 2: wish for with Trump because I think on some level
- 4:03Speaker 2: he needs to feed off the anger.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Yes.
- 4:06Speaker 2: He seems to revel in having these people he hates
- 4:10Speaker 2: in front of him. Right. So I think it's going
- 4:12Speaker 2: to get pretty old pretty quickly.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I agree. I agree. I'm genuinely concerned to see the
- 4:19Speaker 1: effect that it has on the media. I mean, now
- 4:21Speaker 1: who's going to tell Caitlin Collins that she should smile more?
- 4:23Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Who's going to do that? No, I think it's like
- 4:28Speaker 1: he's clearly been laying the groundwork for this for quite
- 4:31Speaker 1: some time. This isn't the only time he's done something
- 4:34Speaker 1: like this. He's weaponized the justice system. He's gone after
- 4:36Speaker 1: journalists in the past. This is just a a larger,
- 4:40Speaker 1: more brazen step towards state-run media.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Yes, nothing surprising about this.
- 4:46Speaker 1: No, but it does feel like a big move in
- 4:49Speaker 1: that direction, which is frightening. Do you think that there's
- 4:52Speaker 1: a little part of Caitlin and the other female journalists
- 4:56Speaker 1: who are like, oh no, I can't go into the
- 5:00Speaker 1: Oval Office and get yelled at by a nasty man
- 5:03Speaker 1: who calls me stupid and tells me to smile more?
- 5:05Speaker 2: I think the other question is how have they... I
- 5:09Speaker 2: know there's a certain amount of, not I swore an oath,
- 5:13Speaker 2: but this is the job that I've taken and this
- 5:17Speaker 2: is the role that I'm putting my ego aside. And
- 5:23Speaker 2: I think it's more important to report on this than
- 5:28Speaker 2: to let those childish attacks get me down. However, everybody's
- 5:35Speaker 2: got limits. How much of that.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Bullshit can you really take? Right. Right. It's this weird
- 5:42Speaker 2: symbiotic thing where it's almost like President Trump knows that
- 5:46Speaker 2: they're going to be there no matter what. So he
- 5:49Speaker 2: doesn't have to really set up any limitations or guardrails
- 5:54Speaker 2: on his behavior, right?
- 5:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:55Speaker 2: And he almost maybe, again, enjoys that he can do
- 5:58Speaker 2: this and they kind of feel like they have to
- 6:01Speaker 2: stand strong.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Do you think maybe he'll miss the attention and go,
- 6:04Speaker 1: you know what? I take it back. Now, you know,
- 6:06Speaker 1: now you can come back.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Now you can come back. It'll be, I think, It'll
- 6:09Speaker 2: be a while. They've learned their lesson, even though nothing
- 6:14Speaker 2: has changed. Now, I believe today, when we're recording this,
- 6:18Speaker 2: the press pool is banned together and said that they're
- 6:20Speaker 2: not going to... Even Fox News, I think, has... Is
- 6:24Speaker 2: that true?
- 6:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:25Speaker 2: They're not doing pool coverage.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Wow.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Which was surprising.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Good on Fox News.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Because it really is going to be the very small...
- 6:37Speaker 2: few conservative networks right that will still be there i
- 6:41Speaker 2: feel like.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Yeah if fox news is out that's big um that's
- 6:45Speaker 1: that's pretty incredible do you know who we can talk
- 6:47Speaker 1: to about that this week devon devon obviously devon devon
- 6:53Speaker 1: okay Jessica Tarloff, who's.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Coming on the show. Jessica Tarloff is coming on the show.
- 6:57Speaker 1: She's coming on the show.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Of Raging Moderates, the podcast, and of The Five.
- 7:01Speaker 1: The Lone Liberal on The Five.
- 7:02Speaker 2: The Lone Liberal on The Five. I really like her.
- 7:04Speaker 1: The brilliant Jessica Tarloff.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Yes.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Hardest job in television.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Have you interviewed her before?
- 7:08Speaker 1: Other than doing this podcast. Other than sitting in this chair.
- 7:15Speaker 2: That's right. Jessica Tarloff is on the show.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Jessica Tarloff's coming on the show. Can you believe Fox
- 7:20Speaker 1: News is letting her on with me?
- 7:21Speaker 2: That is interesting. Yeah.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Do you have anything off the top of your head
- 7:26Speaker 2: that you might want to get into with her?
- 7:29Speaker 1: Well, she wrote an incredible book. It's called I Disagree.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Part memoir, part how-to guide and how to show up
- 7:37Speaker 1: in disagreements and have conversations with people, which will come
- 7:40Speaker 1: in handy for the holidays. Book is excellent. She really
- 7:44Speaker 1: is very open and vulnerable and talks about her upbringing.
- 7:47Speaker 1: And it's a great way into these lessons. But I...
- 7:54Speaker 1: The thing that she talks a lot about is showing
- 7:58Speaker 1: up unapologetically and being confident in your disagreement, which I
- 8:06Speaker 1: think is so important for everyone to read about and
- 8:10Speaker 1: to hear her perspective on, but particularly for women.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I mean, confident but not combative, maybe, that kind of thing. Yeah, but.
- 8:19Speaker 1: You know, how to... She's very.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Because I don't find her to be... Sorry. I don't
- 8:23Speaker 2: find her to be overly combative.
- 8:24Speaker 1: No, she's not.
- 8:26Speaker 2: On the show, which I really like about her. She
- 8:28Speaker 2: doesn't take the bait a lot of times.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 8:30Speaker 2: She holds firm, but she does not get into a
- 8:34Speaker 2: screaming match.
- 8:35Speaker 1: That's right.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Or become the firebrand that they want her to become.
- 8:38Speaker 1: She very intentionally does not get emotional about it. And
- 8:42Speaker 1: she comes with all of the facts. She's very... data-based,
- 8:48Speaker 1: brings the statistics. Like, she is so grounded in facts.
- 8:52Speaker 1: But it really, like, it grounds her in an undeniable argument.
- 8:56Speaker 1: And how she prepares for that is mind-blowing because she's
- 9:00Speaker 1: got a stat for everything at any given moment. And
- 9:02Speaker 1: I know she works really hard to be able to
- 9:04Speaker 1: do that. But it's kind of miraculous.
- 9:07Speaker 2: It's interesting on that show, The Five, when she brings
- 9:09Speaker 2: up facts and a lot of things that should bring...
- 9:14Speaker 2: their conversation to a screeching halt.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:17Speaker 2: How the other hosts just keep talking.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 9:20Speaker 2: As if, yeah, yeah, yeah. And then they just.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Or they just go, that's not true.
- 9:24Speaker 2: No, yeah, okay.
- 9:25Speaker 1: That's not true.
- 9:26Speaker 2: And then they just keep going. It's crazy.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:27Speaker 2: There should be so many moments where conversation over.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Here's something that negates your entire rant. Right, right. But
- 9:38Speaker 2: I don't know if it's just strength in numbers, but
- 9:40Speaker 2: they just plow over her facts.
- 9:42Speaker 1: A lot of times. They definitely do. It's fascinating. But
- 9:44Speaker 1: she holds her own. She really holds her own. I'm
- 9:46Speaker 1: curious to know how many times she's had people come
- 9:50Speaker 1: up to her and say that she actually opened up
- 9:52Speaker 1: their mind to something. Because she'll tell you she's not
- 9:55Speaker 1: setting out to change minds. She's setting out to open minds.
- 9:58Speaker 1: And she has had... she writes in the book about
- 10:01Speaker 1: a woman who came up to her and apologized for
- 10:03Speaker 1: writing something nasty about her in the comments and thought
- 10:07Speaker 1: better of it later. So I'm curious to hear about
- 10:09Speaker 1: more of those experiences if she's had other people come
- 10:12Speaker 1: up and say, you know what? I thought this one thing,
- 10:15Speaker 1: but I heard you speak about it and you changed
- 10:17Speaker 1: my mind.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Gotcha. Wow. All right. Well, we look forward to that.
- 10:20Speaker 2: I think that's Wednesday of this week.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Wednesday.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Wednesday. Excellent. Two other really good guests on the show
- 10:26Speaker 2: this week. Tom Morello.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Of Rage Against the Machine on Tuesday. And obviously, not
- 10:33Speaker 2: just Rage Against the Machine, but he's obviously a political
- 10:36Speaker 2: activist and an incredible guitar god.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Yep.
- 10:39Speaker 2: And then Merritt Weaver on Thursday. Merritt Weaver.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Right. That's a good lineup.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Great lineup. This is some good guests this week, people. Yeah.
- 10:47Speaker 2: You know?
- 10:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Stick around for the interviews. That's pretty great.
- 10:49Speaker 1: I owe them a lot of favors.
- 10:51Speaker 2: A lot of favors. Merritt Weaver's going to hold your
- 10:54Speaker 2: feet over the fire?
- 10:54Speaker 1: I mean, maybe. She's in a new movie called Primetime.
- 10:59Speaker 2: The Chris Hansen.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Yeah. To Catch a Predator movie.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Chris Hansen, who was on Cameo.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Is that right?
- 11:05Speaker 2: I don't know if he still is. But yeah, at
- 11:07Speaker 2: one point he was on Cameo. He could get a
- 11:08Speaker 2: Cameo from Chris Hansen.
- 11:09Speaker 1: How many Cameos have you gotten from Chris Hansen?
- 11:12Speaker 2: Okay.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:15Speaker 2: No, I think after he got caught for writing bad checks,
- 11:18Speaker 2: that's a real thing.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Is that true?
- 11:21Speaker 2: He was passing bad checks, I believe. And so then
- 11:24Speaker 2: he surfaced on Cameo.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Wow. Yeah.
- 11:28Speaker 2: That's a pretty good one, though. If you're going to
- 11:29Speaker 2: get a Cameo.
- 11:30Speaker 1: That's a great one.
- 11:31Speaker 2: That's a pretty good one.
- 11:32Speaker 1: I'm going to keep that in mind.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Oh, let's talk about the arch.
- 11:36Speaker 1: The arch.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Trump is building his triumphal arch. And what he is
- 11:42Speaker 2: saying is. is that it is a military installation, that
- 11:47Speaker 2: the Arch will be a place to store drones and munitions.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Finally.
- 11:55Speaker 2: And he said, and I think he said on social media,
- 11:58Speaker 2: at great request of the military. Oh, yes. So it
- 12:03Speaker 2: was their idea.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Of course. Of course it was.
- 12:08Speaker 2: To make the Arch a battery in the middle of Washington.
- 12:12Speaker 1: D.C., Oh, my God. Finally, someone is January 6th proofing
- 12:18Speaker 1: the Capitol.
- 12:18Speaker 2: That's true.
- 12:19Speaker 1: The buildings.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Those people wouldn't have stormed the Capitol if they had
- 12:24Speaker 2: known that there were missile launchers a few hundred yards away.
- 12:27Speaker 1: There was a missile-loaded arch? That never would have happened.
- 12:32Speaker 2: It does feel like he kind of... I was saying
- 12:36Speaker 2: earlier to you before this, it's like something... my son
- 12:40Speaker 2: would build with Legos and be like, I'm building an
- 12:42Speaker 2: arch now to add guns to it. Now it's done.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Mom, look, I built a zoo out of Legos, but wait,
- 12:49Speaker 1: one gun, two guns.
- 12:50Speaker 2: And lasers and bombs. It's just such a weird GI
- 12:55Speaker 2: Joe view of the military that, um, you know, it
- 12:59Speaker 2: just feels like, you know, Oh man, the GI Joe
- 13:02Speaker 2: arch now with real bomb storage. I don't, uh, It
- 13:07Speaker 2: just feels so childish, such a childish view of the military.
- 13:10Speaker 1: It's really playing to the lowest common denominator.
- 13:13Speaker 2: It is. Now, of course, the real reason for this
- 13:15Speaker 2: is that he can get money to build it if
- 13:19Speaker 2: he couches it as a military necessity.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Oh, you say no to the ballroom? How about a
- 13:25Speaker 1: ballroom with guns?
- 13:26Speaker 2: There you go.
- 13:27Speaker 1: No to the arch? How about an arch with guns?
- 13:30Speaker 2: How are we going to defend an already heavily protected
- 13:34Speaker 2: and armed city like Washington, D.C.? without an arch with
- 13:40Speaker 2: guns in it.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I'm so happy that he's so well protected as AI
- 13:46Speaker 1: comes after the rest of us.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Yes.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Who's going to want to drive under an arch that
- 13:51Speaker 1: could potentially explode? That sounds terrifying. I already hold my
- 13:54Speaker 1: breath when I go into tunnels and over bridges. That's
- 13:59Speaker 1: what you're supposed to do, right?
- 14:03Speaker 2: And given the way his construction projects have gone, there's
- 14:06Speaker 2: a real possibility that that someone gets hit by a
- 14:12Speaker 2: falling semi-automatic rifle while they're taking a selfie with the arch. Um, anyway.
- 14:19Speaker 2: All right. So that is our latest military installation is
- 14:22Speaker 2: the Trump arch. So, um, those are some things that
- 14:25Speaker 2: were going on over the weekend. Well, guess what? We're
- 14:28Speaker 2: going to talk about some stuff coming up this week.
- 14:30Speaker 1: We are.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Let's do it. Some ongoing, uh, stories, of course, uh,
- 14:37Speaker 2: Xi from the president of China. President Xi is going
- 14:41Speaker 2: to visit Washington, I guess, amid the growing AI crisis
- 14:46Speaker 2: that we have going on. He and President Trump are
- 14:48Speaker 2: going to discuss the possibility of AI regulation, AI guardrails.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Wouldn't that be nice?
- 14:56Speaker 2: Wouldn't it? I don't know. I'm skeptical this is going
- 15:00Speaker 2: to be a productive... If there was ever a meeting
- 15:04Speaker 2: for show, a lot of nodding, kind of like, uh-huh, yeah,
- 15:09Speaker 2: we're definitely going to curb our development.
- 15:13Speaker 1: I think being skeptical is exactly the right feeling.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Yeah. Who's going to blink first? And neither of these
- 15:20Speaker 2: guys is really into that.
- 15:23Speaker 1: I just wish that the government was willing to regulate
- 15:27Speaker 1: AI as much as they're willing to regulate my uterus.
- 15:31Speaker 1: You know?
- 15:31Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Well, if your uterus could make cool videos
- 15:37Speaker 2: of if it could put boobs on Goofy and make
- 15:40Speaker 2: him dance or something. I don't know.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Hey, don't assume my uterus can't do that. You don't
- 15:44Speaker 1: know what my uterus can and cannot do. You don't
- 15:47Speaker 1: know what I've been practicing at home.
- 15:48Speaker 2: I just mansplained your uterus.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Yeah, how dare you?
- 15:51Speaker 2: I'm so sorry.
- 15:54Speaker 1: I'm going to slack over some of the videos.
- 15:55Speaker 2: Here I was thinking I was recovering and it's gotten worse.
- 16:00Speaker 2: As soon as you brought up your uterus, I should
- 16:02Speaker 2: have taken the bait.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:04Speaker 1: You failed. You know who wouldn't have done that?
- 16:06Speaker 2: My wife?
- 16:07Speaker 1: No. Devin wouldn't have done that. God.
- 16:09Speaker 2: Fucking Devin.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Oh, God.
- 16:13Speaker 2: He's so perfect.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:15Speaker 2: I bet he's not insecure. Anyway, of course, the CEOs
- 16:21Speaker 2: of Anthropic, the Anthropic CEO especially, has warned us that
- 16:25Speaker 2: AI is going to eliminate humanity. There's a greater than
- 16:29Speaker 2: 10% chance that it's going to eliminate humanity. That's what
- 16:32Speaker 2: he said. By the end of the decade, I think
- 16:34Speaker 2: that's what he said.
- 16:35Speaker 1: In 10 years, in the next 10 years. How bad
- 16:37Speaker 1: does it have to be for an expert like that
- 16:40Speaker 1: to come out? Someone who has nothing.
- 16:42Speaker 2: That's how I feel.
- 16:43Speaker 1: But to gain everything from it working.
- 16:46Speaker 2: It must be really bad behind the scenes for him
- 16:48Speaker 2: to come out and say, I think we need to
- 16:50Speaker 2: tap the brakes on this.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Because he has every reason not to. He is one
- 16:56Speaker 2: of the only people that has... Every reason not to
- 16:58Speaker 2: do that.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Right.
- 17:00Speaker 2: So I fear for humanity and your uterus.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Thank you. Thank you. I feel better, actually.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Can you cut that part out about the uterus, Alan?
- 17:11Speaker 1: No, Alan, I'd like you to keep it in. Oh, God.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I'd like you to keep my uterus in, please.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Does Desi have final cut on the pre-cap?
- 17:19Speaker 1: No, but my uterus does.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Your uterus does?
- 17:22Speaker 1: And she wants this in.
- 17:24Speaker 2: All right, Daily Show and Tell. Let's do that, Desi.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Ooh.
- 17:28Speaker 2: This is, people know what this is, right? You just
- 17:32Speaker 2: talk about something that's on your mind, something you've watched, read,
- 17:36Speaker 2: happened lately, anything interesting. Let's just fill some time.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Do you know what I'm excited about?
- 17:41Speaker 2: Yes, go ahead.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Troy Iwata is in a little show called Heated Rivalry
- 17:47Speaker 1: the Parody in New York City. It's a musical, and
- 17:52Speaker 1: I'm going to see it on Sunday.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Wow.
- 17:53Speaker 1: I cannot wait.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Troy Iwata of Daily Show fame.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Troy Iwata of Daily Show. I said Iwata. Iwata. Alan,
- 18:00Speaker 1: can you edit that out?
- 18:01Speaker 2: You know, Alan's in Canada, and we don't have a
- 18:04Speaker 2: great relationship with Canada right now.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Oh, you were pronouncing it the Canadian way? Iwata in Canada.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Can you do me a solid, my Canadian friend?
- 18:14Speaker 1: I'm so excited to see Troy's show this weekend. It's
- 18:16Speaker 1: a musical.
- 18:17Speaker 2: In New York. In New York.
- 18:18Speaker 1: In New York.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Fantastic.
- 18:20Speaker 1: He's supposed to be incredible. The show is supposed to
- 18:22Speaker 1: be hilarious. I love heated rivalry on its own. I
- 18:27Speaker 1: love my Troy Iwata. I cannot wait to watch it.
- 18:30Speaker 2: I'm curious what the crowd would be like at that.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Is it a, is it a Thunder Down Under type crowd?
- 18:35Speaker 1: No, I think it's a, well, it could be.
- 18:38Speaker 2: I only ask because I know that that show was
- 18:41Speaker 2: huge with, you know, kind of, kind of the white
- 18:47Speaker 2: suburban soccer mom.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Are you assuming because I'm going that I'm bringing the
- 18:53Speaker 1: white suburban soccer mom?
- 18:54Speaker 2: As soon as I said it and I saw your face,
- 18:57Speaker 2: I knew that was a mistake. I mean, it was instantaneous.
- 19:00Speaker 1: What I wouldn't give to be a white suburban soccer mom.
- 19:05Speaker 1: I am white and I am a soccer mom.
- 19:07Speaker 2: See, there you go.
- 19:08Speaker 1: I don't have the suburban part.
- 19:10Speaker 2: No, I just know that that was part of the
- 19:12Speaker 2: reason for that show's popularity.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Yes. Oh, yes. Yes.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Not by any means was that the only group that
- 19:18Speaker 2: watched it. It was a massive hit.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:20Speaker 2: But I was wondering if that's who would show up
- 19:21Speaker 2: at a musical like that.
- 19:23Speaker 1: I would guess a lot of women. I would guess
- 19:24Speaker 1: a lot of straight women will be going.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Okay.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Yeah. I think, no, it's supposed to be hilarious. And
- 19:32Speaker 1: I'm very excited to see it. And I'm very happy
- 19:35Speaker 1: for him.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Well, he's hilarious and the best. I'm excited
- 19:38Speaker 2: for him, too.
- 19:39Speaker 1: And I hear the music is incredible. Yeah.
- 19:42Speaker 2: He's got a great singing voice.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Which is.
- 19:44Speaker 2: He's got a real musical, you know, flair to his performance.
- 19:49Speaker 1: He has an incredible... voice.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Anytime we ask him to sing or do something rhythmic,
- 19:52Speaker 2: he's so capable.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Oh, he brings on the house. But unfortunately, we don't
- 19:56Speaker 1: have enough opportunities to get him to sing. We need
- 19:59Speaker 1: to figure out a way to work that in a
- 20:00Speaker 1: little bit more.
- 20:00Speaker 2: That's a good that's a good idea, actually.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Pitches in the comments. Send your pitches in the comments.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Anywho... What's.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Your daily show and tell?
- 20:08Speaker 2: My daily show and tell?
- 20:09Speaker 1: How hot your wife is. Okay. God, I better think
- 20:13Speaker 1: of something quick to stop you from talking.
- 20:16Speaker 2: This is interesting. Let's see. My kids asked for a
- 20:23Speaker 2: 3D printer.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Oh, yes.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Which I was not really familiar with what they do exactly.
- 20:29Speaker 2: I mean, I knew that they were interesting or whatever.
- 20:32Speaker 1: So....
- 20:34Speaker 2: They've been printing out little, I guess, plastic. It basically
- 20:38Speaker 2: just prints out plastic stuff. And you can put it
- 20:41Speaker 2: right in a landfill or you can keep it around
- 20:43Speaker 2: your house for a few days before it goes in
- 20:44Speaker 2: a landfill. But my daughter, she printed out. I said,
- 20:48Speaker 2: what are you printing out? And she goes, I'm printing
- 20:50Speaker 2: out a hat. I said, okay, cool.
- 20:53Speaker 1: It says, make America great again. Like this is.
- 20:57Speaker 2: It's red.
- 20:57Speaker 1: No one in my family watches my work.
- 20:59Speaker 2: It's red. It's red. Um, yes, it's so cool. And then,
- 21:04Speaker 2: so the other day she comes in wearing a bright blue, um,
- 21:11Speaker 2: I guess I want to say it's a Vietnamese rice
- 21:15Speaker 2: harvesting hat that she printed out, um, that she's been
- 21:19Speaker 2: wearing to school. Uh, and it is.
- 21:24Speaker 1: How's that going over? Right.
- 21:28Speaker 2: So far, so good, I guess.
- 21:31Speaker 1: How old is she now?
- 21:33Speaker 2: She's nine. I believe the teacher said, unfortunately, we're not
- 21:36Speaker 2: allowed to wear hats in the classroom.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Yes, that'll take care of it. I love it.
- 21:41Speaker 2: And I can't tell if this is just weird or
- 21:43Speaker 2: culturally insensitive, what you're doing right now.
- 21:46Speaker 1: I love that nine is the age when typically like
- 21:49Speaker 1: you go to pick up your kid and they're like,
- 21:50Speaker 1: oh my God, don't make eye contact with me. I
- 21:53Speaker 1: don't know you. Just let me walk by myself. And
- 21:55Speaker 1: you're doing the opposite with your daughter. You're like, just
- 21:58Speaker 1: walk over there.
- 21:59Speaker 2: The kid with the plastic rice harvesting hat.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Daddy will be across the street. I'll meet you at home.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Whose kid is that? Not me. So anyway, who knows
- 22:13Speaker 2: what else? The old 3D printer is going to be
- 22:15Speaker 2: spitting out, but that's where we started.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Oh, no.
- 22:17Speaker 2: It was with a weird hat. Stay tuned. I'll let
- 22:21Speaker 2: you know.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Good luck with the 3D printer.
- 22:23Speaker 2: I'll let you know how that goes over.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Does it have an algorithm? Do 3D printers sort of
- 22:28Speaker 1: like have an algorithm or some sort of memory?
- 22:31Speaker 2: It has some sort of app where you can look
- 22:33Speaker 2: at what other people have created.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Okay. Right.
- 22:36Speaker 2: And I guess they share it publicly and then you
- 22:38Speaker 2: can try to print it yourself. Okay. I think the
- 22:40Speaker 2: idea is... You try to create some stuff on your
- 22:44Speaker 2: own and share it with people. And then everybody, it's
- 22:46Speaker 2: this sort of everybody shares their projects.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Okay. So everyone will be walking around with these.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:53Speaker 1: She's starting a trend.
- 22:54Speaker 2: You know what? I could start just knocking them out
- 22:56Speaker 2: for people in the office.
- 22:59Speaker 1: That's okay. I don't think that's.
- 23:00Speaker 2: And I mean, it's just. I don't think that'll be necessary.
- 23:02Speaker 2: I mean, it is thin blue plastic that you put together.
- 23:05Speaker 2: It could not be. A less appealing thing to put
- 23:09Speaker 2: on your body.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Oh, boy.
- 23:10Speaker 2: But she's very proud of it. Oh, boy.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Well.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Interesting kid. Anyway, that is going to be it for
- 23:19Speaker 2: the pre-cap. Desi Lydic, all this week on The Daily Show.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Thanks a lot for hanging out.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Thank you for having me, Devin. It was lovely.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Silky smooth as usual. I'm Devin Delacuante, a writer and
- 23:31Speaker 2: producer on The Daily Show. And it has been lovely
- 23:33Speaker 2: hanging out with my favorite, Desi Lydic. Shout out to
- 23:37Speaker 2: Matt's wife.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Shout out to Matt's wife.
