- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good Morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset, coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day. To record a podcast to.
- 0:15Teach distinctions, possibilities, new ways of
- 0:18thinking, and just bring some joy into the world.
- 0:21So welcome to the coop and let's start your day off in a
- 0:24fantastic way. Hey everybody, good morning from
- 0:30the chicken coop. So I, I, this time of year
- 0:33always starts to get me thinking because I feel like we're coming
- 0:38in the, you know, the close of the year is there and it starts
- 0:40to put pressure on and everybody starts to get a little like
- 0:43squirrelly about the pressure. But for me, I kind of take this
- 0:48on as a mind map project, a vision board process.
- 0:52I kind of want to figure out what do I want to make these
- 0:55last three months all about for the year?
- 0:58I mean, it's, it's so incredibly filled with energy because
- 1:04you've got all these holidays that come up one right after
- 1:07another. It's like 3 months right in a
- 1:08row. Boom, boom, boom.
- 1:10And some people don't like Halloween.
- 1:12Some people maybe where you're listening, you don't celebrate
- 1:14Halloween. I'm not sure.
- 1:16But you know, we have three months right in a row that are
- 1:21how like just Halloween being the first holiday coming up, but
- 1:23they're just jam packed with things, activities, not to
- 1:27mention all the harvest activities that go on.
- 1:31You know, it tends to be a time when people want to start baking
- 1:35and planning and just it's, it's very activity filled.
- 1:40And for me, I, I always get kind of very overly excited about it
- 1:47this time of the year because I, I'm thinking in terms of I want
- 1:51to be done before everybody else.
- 1:53Now this may sound crazy, but I want to have all my Christmas
- 1:57shopping done by November 1st. I do, I always make it No, I may
- 2:02be the first one to say that, but in a perfect world that
- 2:06excites me beyond belief because I want to be able to enjoy those
- 2:10holidays. I don't want to feel like I have
- 2:12to rush through those holidays And it it, it's crazy to me how
- 2:18quickly they come up and they hit you in the back of the head
- 2:20like a baseball bat. And before you know it, you're
- 2:23rushing around trying to make things happen and the joy of the
- 2:26time is gone. It's like the joy is sucked out
- 2:29of it because you feel like you're rushing, rushing, rushing
- 2:31all the time. And I, and in order to avoid
- 2:34that, I'm bringing it up very early this year so that everyone
- 2:38can start thinking in terms of what if I map it out now?
- 2:41What if I start to take right now all the way through January
- 2:451st. And I look, I, I print out
- 2:47pieces of paper like don't do it digitally.
- 2:51So you can really see it. I love to print my, I have a
- 2:53printer that works on 11 by 17 as well as 8 1/2 by 11.
- 2:57And I can print out 11 by 17 calendars.
- 3:00And I print them out and then I sit there and I draw my lines on
- 3:04them. So I know exactly what I'm
- 3:05looking at and I have those out, Full disclosure, all year long.
- 3:09They're in my pile. I print a whole year and I map
- 3:12things out right away and they stay under my computer with my
- 3:16big week maps every single week. It's just the way that I stay
- 3:20best creative and on track. If I can just see it.
- 3:23I was already in there this morning since 330-3345 and I've
- 3:29just been highlighting and crossing things off my list of
- 3:32stuff that I wanted to get done for myself, for client.
- 3:36And it feels so good when you can just cross it off and you
- 3:39know you've got it done. But it also feels really good to
- 3:41see it all on paper so you don't feel like it's a damn mystery
- 3:44all the time and knowing how many days you have.
- 3:47Now, one little trick that I did start this year, which I am
- 3:52very, I haven't come to a hot solid conclusion on it yet if
- 3:56it's helping or hurting or causing me more anxiety, was I
- 4:00started doing a day's countdown. So instead of just saying, OK,
- 4:04there are 90 days left and not really knowing how many days are
- 4:07counting up, I'm counting down. So I can see.
- 4:11And I think I'm actually going to, because I do this in pencil,
- 4:14of course I can. I think I'm going to actually go
- 4:16back and countdown to each holiday as opposed to just the
- 4:20end of the year. So I know how many days till
- 4:23Halloween, how many many days till Thanksgiving, how many days
- 4:26till Christmas, how many days till New Year's.
- 4:28This way it gives me the ability to know what my wiggle room is.
- 4:32And I still, like I said, I still haven't come to a
- 4:35conclusion on it. I'm going to wait and see how it
- 4:37goes all the way through. But the point is using this in a
- 4:41manner of giving yourself this really focused intention, How do
- 4:46I want my Thanksgiving to be? How do I want my Christmas to
- 4:50be? How do I want all of these
- 4:52things to happen? When am I going to put my tree
- 4:55up? What am I incorporating new
- 4:57traditions? It's mapping it all out that's
- 5:00so important. And it's important for other
- 5:03people to see if you're involved in your life, your excitement
- 5:06and all of this instead of the burden of it all.
- 5:08You know, I feel like Thanksgiving is one of those
- 5:11very melancholy holidays for me. My father died over the holiday,
- 5:15and so I always do. I like it.
- 5:20I can't say that I like it, but what I can say is that I get joy
- 5:24out of throwing myself into cooking.
- 5:27Now, do I like cooking for two days nonstop to eat for 15
- 5:30minutes? No, not really.
- 5:33But I do see the joy in what everybody else gets out of it.
- 5:36So I can find joy in it because I just look at it like I'm
- 5:40focused on giving to them and then it takes my focus off of
- 5:45anything else and that's where I can find the joy.
- 5:47So doesn't always have to be a straight path to the to the end
- 5:51destination, but this is a great way to start thinking about it.
- 5:54So what do you want to make happen?
- 5:56And let's start focusing on that.
- 5:59Plan it out. All right, my friends, I hope
- 6:01you have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 6:03Bye.
