- 0:07Welcome on in everybody to the postgame
- 0:10pod. The postgame pod that is going to
- 0:12have the shortest shelf life of any of
- 0:14these that we have ever done because it
- 0:16is 1 in the morning right now at Jordan
- 0:18Hair Stadium after Auburn loses the Iron
- 0:20Bowl
- 0:21>> 27 to 20. And uh Jason, I'll let you
- 0:24just take it away really quickly with
- 0:25what you which with what you put on our
- 0:27message board tonight, and that is that
- 0:28we probably do not have to wait long to
- 0:30figure out about Auburn's coaching
- 0:31search tomorrow.
- 0:31>> Yeah. Yeah. I was informed there will be
- 0:33a 10:00 a.m.
- 0:35>> team meeting on Sunday, which right now
- 0:37we would assume means that that's when a
- 0:40team will find out who the next head
- 0:42coach is. I think that's going to be the
- 0:43case.
- 0:44>> Um will it be DJ Durkin?
- 0:46>> Will it be Alex Gooish? Sure. From USF?
- 0:49>> Could it be a Kenny Dillingham? I don't
- 0:51know. um um whatever it is um it's it's
- 0:54happened pretty quickly and so we know
- 0:56that but so this thing yeah u about nine
- 0:59hours from when we're recording this
- 1:00right now we'll probably know before
- 1:02that to be quite honest but uh the team
- 1:04will find out and then
- 1:06>> um lots of recruits to get reaction from
- 1:08all kind of things. So it uh it's going
- 1:09to be a pretty busy next few hours and
- 1:12very little sleep.
- 1:13>> Yes. And there there was a football game
- 1:15played out on that field not too uh not
- 1:17too long ago. the the third straight win
- 1:19for Alabama inside of Jordan Hair
- 1:21Stadium. That's never happened um
- 1:23before. And this one not only followed
- 1:24the script of some recent Iron Bowl
- 1:26heartbreaks for Auburn, it followed the
- 1:27script of some recent games for Auburn
- 1:30all past the past this season, past
- 1:32couple years. Um you know, Jason, I I
- 1:34think Auburn deserves a lot of credit
- 1:35for the way they played in this one.
- 1:36Obviously, they outgainained Alabama um
- 1:38at the end of the day,
- 1:40>> but again, it comes down to these
- 1:42critical moments where where Auburn does
- 1:44not get the upper hand. In this game, it
- 1:46w it was just mistakes all over the
- 1:48place and and none more so than the Cam
- 1:50Coleman fumble at the end. 33 seconds
- 1:53left inside of Alabama's 30 yard line
- 1:54and Deontay Lawson just falls on it. But
- 1:57Cam and Cam was really beside himself
- 1:59after that play, but he is far from the
- 2:01only person
- 2:02>> who had mistakes in this game. They were
- 2:04all over the place.
- 2:04>> Yeah, they were they were all over the
- 2:05place on every in in every facet of the
- 2:07game. Obviously, there were a ton of
- 2:08drops offensively, which was was not the
- 2:11norm for this team this year. They had a
- 2:12ton of drops at wide receiver this year.
- 2:14You had a big drop by Omar Mabson where
- 2:16you know ball hits him right in the
- 2:18hands and and goes leads to an
- 2:19interception. But defensively you had
- 2:21you had seven accepted penalties on
- 2:23defense. Two the extended drives that
- 2:26led to touchdowns. To me that the the
- 2:28play of the game for me was was fourth
- 2:30and one midfield 50 yardd line under
- 2:33nine minutes to go. Alabama goes for it
- 2:35and you've got three chances to tackle
- 2:37Ty Simpson behind the line of scrimmage
- 2:39and don't make a play. He gets a first
- 2:41down. They obviously extend the drive
- 2:42down the field. um by virtue of what I
- 2:46thought was a terrible call on Xavier
- 2:48Atkins, he was getting mugged from
- 2:49behind and and fell forward in the
- 2:50quarterback's legs.
- 2:52>> But then you had another fourth down
- 2:53stop that you could have gotten down at
- 2:55the goal line and they they throw
- 2:56touchdown pass. So
- 2:57>> two fourth down conversions um was a big
- 3:00deal in this one and and obviously you
- 3:02look at it defensively you only give up
- 3:05280 yards which is incredible. you know,
- 3:08if you give up 27 points, u and because
- 3:10of the penalties, because of the things
- 3:11that happened, that was a big deal in
- 3:13this game.
- 3:13>> It's kind of the opposite of what we've
- 3:14come to expect from a DJ Durkin defense.
- 3:16Sometimes you you look at the yardage
- 3:17and it's like, oh, it doesn't really
- 3:18matter because they didn't give up that
- 3:19points. That's what they've done this
- 3:20year. They get the stops um when they
- 3:22need to. Yeah. I mean, Ty Simpson, we
- 3:23were just talking about it with with
- 3:24Michael. You Ty Simpson
- 3:26>> statistically does not really have that
- 3:28good of a game, but he makes big throws
- 3:29and big moments. Had some tremendous
- 3:31throws in this game and and makes plays
- 3:33in the red zone.
- 3:34>> Um you know, the Cam Coleman one comes
- 3:36to mind. obviously has a big mistake
- 3:37there, but um Alabama goes on an
- 3:39eight-minute touchdown drive in the
- 3:41fourth quarter to take the lead um in
- 3:43this game. Auburn came back and tied it.
- 3:45Malcolm Simmons, the MVP for this Auburn
- 3:47offense. I mean, he he was I don't want
- 3:49to say the only reason, but it was a
- 3:50couple catch and run plays. And so,
- 3:52obviously, like he he had a lot to do
- 3:53with the effort on those individual
- 3:55plays. But, uh Jason, I mean, at the end
- 3:57of the day, I know we're not going to
- 3:58spend know we're not going to spend that
- 3:59much time on this show because it's it's
- 4:00it's going to be dead content here
- 4:02before too too long. But this was
- 4:04another example of of Auburn being one
- 4:08play away. I know you and I talked about
- 4:09it a little bit. We were texting, you
- 4:10know, in our group during the game. It's
- 4:12like this just this Alabama team you
- 4:14don't feel like was that far ahead
- 4:16talentwise of Auburn, but that's a team
- 4:18that knows how to win on the road.
- 4:20>> And and that was the difference. And and
- 4:21you know, a team that expected to win
- 4:23and another team that was like, well, I
- 4:24sure hope we can win. And that's been
- 4:26the case. We've seen, listen, I said it
- 4:28and I wrote it tonight. Um, we walked
- 4:31off the field and I was on the field for
- 4:32all 12 games. We walked off, we were at
- 4:34all 12 games this season personally. We
- 4:36saw them. There was not a team that
- 4:38outclassed Auburn from a talent
- 4:40standpoint this year.
- 4:41>> No.
- 4:41>> None of them.
- 4:42>> No.
- 4:42>> Um,
- 4:43>> might have been better, but not by much.
- 4:44>> And I said tonight, I look, look, that's
- 4:46the least talented Alabama team I've
- 4:48seen since 2007. 100%. Um, but they
- 4:52still found a way to win. Um, and so you
- 4:55look at it going, look, where do you
- 4:56have to go? And you know, it's kind of
- 4:58my things like I don't care who the next
- 5:00coach is. Doesn't matter to me. Can you
- 5:02find great coordinators to put you in
- 5:04positions to make plays? Can you keep
- 5:06the talent level on this roster? Can you
- 5:10go out and grab some guys from the
- 5:11portal? And can you instill an attitude
- 5:14where guys can finish football games?
- 5:17That's that's it. I don't care who it
- 5:19is. That's that's what you have to do
- 5:21now in my opinion now because I think
- 5:23you've got pieces. But but obviously it
- 5:25wasn't enough. I thought somebody on our
- 5:27message board put it put it pretty
- 5:28aptly. It's like for all the
- 5:30improvements, Auburn still looks like I
- 5:32you just said it, they kind of look like
- 5:33a five and 17. They look like a team
- 5:35that doesn't know how to win these
- 5:37games. Um and obviously that's what
- 5:38they're trying to change with this new
- 5:40era um coming Sunday most likely. Uh as
- 5:43as Jason said, really early in the
- 5:45morning. So if you're listening to this
- 5:46and watching this on YouTube, head over
- 5:48to auburn undercover.com. Hopefully we
- 5:50have an answer. Trust me, nobody wants
- 5:52to get this done more than more than us.
- 5:54We know you guys have been uh have been
- 5:55patient throughout this search. It's not
- 5:57been too wild until here at the very
- 5:59end, but that always tends to happen. Um
- 6:01but yeah, I agree with you, Jason. You
- 6:02know, this wasn't an Auburn team that
- 6:04was necessarily outclassed by a huge
- 6:06margin, if if at all, tonight on the
- 6:08field. But with the next coach, it's
- 6:10it's it boils down. It's pretty simple.
- 6:12You got to get good players and you got
- 6:14to put them in positions to succeed. And
- 6:15they have not been able to combine those
- 6:17things of late.
- 6:18>> Correct. And Yeah. Yep. Um you find a
- 6:20way to win um and and get that into the
- 6:22players. Um that's the most important
- 6:25thing is winning football games and uh
- 6:27got to find the the right formula now
- 6:29for that with whoever the next coach is.
- 6:31>> And we shall see who it's going to be.
- 6:33Obviously uh you know again could be DJ
- 6:35Durkin promoted from from interim head
- 6:38coach. You know that some players talked
- 6:39about that after the game about the kind
- 6:41of difference he made here down the
- 6:43stretch of the season. or if you're John
- 6:44Cohen, do you bring in somebody else who
- 6:45can keep DJ Durkin on as the defensive
- 6:48coordinator or do you bring in somebody
- 6:49else and and blow it up entirely, which
- 6:51would not be obviously something
- 6:52far-fetched as well. And so, we shall
- 6:55see. We'll have answers sooner rather
- 6:56than later. For Jason Caldwell, I am
- 6:58Nathan King. Patrick Bang behind the
- 6:59camera. Thank you guys for joining us
- 7:01for on this a bridged version of the
- 7:03postgame pod. See you guys over at
- 7:04auburn undercover.com. And hopefully
- 7:06we're talking about a new coach.
