- 0:41Hi, it's Adam here. And in this session of the
- 0:44Hypnotist, you're going to be listening to a hypnosis session
- 0:48all about the fear of abandonment.
- 0:51And I was working with a client that as a child felt that they
- 0:56were abandoned twice, one at the age of around about 6, the other
- 1:01at the age of about 14. And in both cases, it wasn't
- 1:05abandonment, it was a bereavement.
- 1:08But to a child, it can feel that way.
- 1:11It can feel like, why did they leave me?
- 1:14How could they leave me? Rather than.
- 1:18How an adult might look at these things as.
- 1:21A natural. Part of life, and I think that
- 1:23comes from the vulnerability and dependency of a child.
- 1:28If the person that dies is your. Source of love?
- 1:32Attention, learning, protection, security and they go.
- 1:37That could feel like a very vulnerable place in a very
- 1:40emotionally devastating place, in which case the unconscious
- 1:45mind can go to great lengths to try and protect from that level
- 1:51of emotional pain. And what some people do when
- 1:55they feel that they were abandoned is to not let people
- 1:59get too close, keep people at a distance.
- 2:02Some people can wear a bit of a mask so that people don't really
- 2:06get to know the real them. That's a way.
- 2:09Of protecting some people will sabotage friendships and
- 2:13relationships because if they feel that they develop too much
- 2:18then it could be more painful if that friendship or relationship
- 2:22ends so self sabotage can be one of these coping strategies
- 2:27There's many different things but it really comes down from a
- 2:30deep fear of either abandonment or rejection, which is a cousin
- 2:35of abandonment and. Sometimes you get.
- 2:38These these strange cycles where the intention is good in the
- 2:44sense that this unconscious part really wants to protect from
- 2:48pain, but in doing so quite often can either miss out on the
- 2:54true thing that it really wants, which quite often is.
- 2:57Love or connection? So it never really gets the the
- 3:01real thing, it's just accepting a a substitute that feels safe.
- 3:05Or you get this element of a never ending cycle where things
- 3:10happen. It's almost like a moth to the
- 3:13flame analogy. Something feels really
- 3:16desirable. They get closer and then the
- 3:18moment they get close, they then sabotage that thing because it
- 3:21feels too dangerous. And then of course, there's that
- 3:24inner need that desires that thing.
- 3:26Whether it's love. Or connection that would be the
- 3:29the flame to the moth but they get too close.
- 3:32And then either. It feels too painful and they
- 3:34back away or they sabotage it to destructive and it's a case of
- 3:40jumping from the boat so that they're not pushed and all of
- 3:45these dynamics are going on and they come from a really good
- 3:47place. But from that good place, very
- 3:49painful things can happen. And this particular client had
- 3:53very extreme levels of anxiety because they considered what
- 3:59they really wanted, which was love.
- 4:02And then that part that was protecting them and, and felt
- 4:05like love equals risk, then created the anxiety to deter
- 4:11that possibility from happening. So if you have this feeling of
- 4:16self sabotage or fear of abandonment, or you feel that if
- 4:21you never let people too close or you sabotage things if
- 4:26they're going good just in case they go bad, you might be able
- 4:29to connect with. This it does.
- 4:31Involve timeline therapy and and going back to the.
- 4:36Point where? Some of these beliefs were
- 4:38created, it has an element of inner child work, and some of
- 4:42the references would have been ideal for the client and not
- 4:44quite right for you. So I would encourage you to
- 4:47ignore any suggestions that don't quite fit your
- 4:51circumstances except the ones that do.
- 4:55And if you like the idea of a bespoke session rather than this
- 4:59recording that was done for someone else, there will be a
- 5:01link in the description where you can schedule a free
- 5:03consultation call to explore working with me.
- 5:06For now though, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 5:09won't be disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 5:42Take a deep breath in and as you breathe out, just allow your
- 5:48eyelids to close. With your eyes closed, just give
- 5:53permission to release, to release that feeling of tension
- 6:00that you've been holding onto, to allow any feelings of anxiety
- 6:08and worry to feel like it's melting away and leaving your
- 6:15body in your outward breath. Each breath can be slightly
- 6:22deeper than the last, and as you exhale, that's it.
- 6:29Feel that wonderful sense of release.
- 6:38Maybe you can scan your body. Pretty clues of tension maybe
- 6:44around your jaw, your forehead, neck or shoulders as you breathe
- 6:52in that resourceful feeling of calm and relaxation.
- 6:57That's it. Just allow it to be released, to
- 6:59let go, breath by breath. Just releasing then stored up
- 7:07tension that you've been holding onto.
- 7:12And I want you to feel that it's safe.
- 7:15It's safe to relax, safe to let go.
- 7:21And everything you've been through has been coming from a
- 7:26good place, a place of protection, a place of keeping
- 7:36you safe. And everybody knows at least one
- 7:42person with their hearts in the right place.
- 7:48But sometimes when they try and make things better, it has
- 7:53unintended consequences. And I want you to think that way
- 8:00about a part within you, perhaps an inner child, a protective
- 8:06part that all it's ever wanted was to keep you safe from being
- 8:13hurt, abandoned or left. But what if that part trying to
- 8:23protect you is preventing you from having the thing that would
- 8:30equate to true happiness or fulfilment?
- 8:37For some people, what feels like a fortress becomes a prison, the
- 8:46thing that keeps you safe, keeps you trapped to breathe in that
- 8:53relaxation, exhale, that tension.
- 8:55That's it. And as your body relaxes, you
- 9:00can breathe even deeper. And the deeper you breathe, the
- 9:03more relaxed you become. And as your body relaxes, your
- 9:07imagination awakens. And I want you to imagine that
- 9:12you keep your physical body exactly where it is, but your
- 9:16imagination can go all the way back.
- 9:22I want you to imagine floating back through time at your
- 9:27current age, keeping your physical body there, and
- 9:31floating all the way back to perhaps when you were maybe five
- 9:39years old. And I want you to go back and
- 9:44just see yourself with your grandmother.
- 9:49I want you to see that innocent, vulnerable, impressionable child
- 9:59receiving the thing that you valued more than anything else
- 10:02back then, love. And I want you to imagine you're
- 10:09just this invisible entity watching that version of you,
- 10:13just five years old, receiving all of that love from your
- 10:18grandmother. And I want you to wait until
- 10:29that five year old version of you it's just playing or
- 10:35relaxing alone. And I want you to imagine how it
- 10:40would feel to no longer be invisible and say hello to that
- 10:45little 5 year old. And I want you to do something
- 10:50fun. I want you to convince this five
- 10:56year old that you are them from the future.
- 11:03And I want you to do that by telling them a secret that only
- 11:07they know. That's it.
- 11:12And once you've convinced that five year old that you are them
- 11:18from the future, just let me know by nodding your head.
- 11:28That's it. And I want you to tell them that
- 11:36they are worthy, they are valuable, they are loved because
- 11:46you are them and they are you. And I want you to tell them
- 11:53something difficult for a 5 year old to hear.
- 12:01I want you to tell that five year old then.
- 12:08Life and death is natural and if someone dies doesn't represent
- 12:16abandonment, doesn't mean that person's left, even though it
- 12:20feels that way. And I want you to tell this
- 12:25child that even if the person that they love the most and who
- 12:30loves them goes away because they're older, maybe has a
- 12:37disease, that doesn't mean they're being left.
- 12:44And I want you to tell this five year old that no matter what
- 12:50happens in the future, you will always be there for them.
- 12:57Always be there. Never go and give that little 5
- 13:04year old a hug, A real hug, full of warmth and love.
- 13:13They've been protecting you, but you need to protect them now.
- 13:18And I want you to go forwards in time, holding their hand to the
- 13:26moment just before their grandmother's passing.
- 13:35And I want you to tell them this is nature.
- 13:40It can be sad, but it does not represent abandonment.
- 13:46This is not them leaving this five, this 6 year old.
- 13:50It's it's them experiencing what happens to everyone.
- 13:59But even though that person they loved is no longer there, you
- 14:07are there for them. Tell them that they are worthy
- 14:12of love. Tell them that they deserve
- 14:17love. Tell them that the only thing
- 14:22that can impede real love is fear.
- 14:28And if they're afraid, love becomes elusive.
- 14:36But if they are courageous and vulnerable, it opens the door to
- 14:42love. And I want you to give a
- 14:48resource to that 6 year old something they need.
- 14:57And it isn't courage or confidence.
- 15:02I want you to give them a glowing ball of energy called
- 15:07self love. Give it whatever colour feels
- 15:11appropriate and pass it from them, from you to them and and
- 15:17see them. Hold it in their little hands
- 15:20and hold it up to their heart and the love that they used to
- 15:26get from their grandmother. They are now able to give that
- 15:31love to themselves. And I want you to feel that that
- 15:396 year old now is giving you something that you need.
- 15:44Vulnerability. 6 year olds are vulnerable.
- 15:54But imagine that 6 year old is giving you a glowing ball of
- 15:56energy that represents that vulnerability.
- 16:03All this time you've been trying to keep yourself safe by being
- 16:07strong, by avoiding that thing that feels scary.
- 16:13But what if that vulnerability is what's needed to create a
- 16:20level of connection that is real love, not a substitute for it?
- 16:27You've given self love to that child, and they've given
- 16:31vulnerability to you. And I want you to give that
- 16:35child a hug and tell them that you will see them soon.
- 16:44And then I want you to go forwards in time, perhaps just a
- 16:49few days or maybe a week before your mother's passing.
- 16:55You're not seeing a six year old, you're seeing a 14 year
- 16:57old. And when they see you, they
- 17:02smile. They're happy you're there and
- 17:05you're happy to see them. And I want you to fill them with
- 17:10compliments. Tell them how smart they are,
- 17:16how capable they are, how beautiful they are.
- 17:24Give all of that love to that 14 year old version of you and just
- 17:30feel. Feel that connection.
- 17:35Feel all of that love flowing from you to them and them to
- 17:38you. That's it.
- 17:42And just tell them that in a a few days from now, their mother
- 17:49will pass. And this isn't an abandonment.
- 17:56This isn't them leaving you. It's a consequence of choices
- 18:02made and the health ripple effects of choices, good or bad.
- 18:14And once you've reassured that younger version of you that what
- 18:18will happen may feel sad, but it is not abandonment, just let me
- 18:26know about nodding your head, hold their hand.
- 18:32And then be there at that moment, that time when your
- 18:38mother passes. And I want you to be the love
- 18:43and the constant for that child. And I want you to tell them
- 18:54something wise. I want you to tell them that you
- 19:01can't pour from an empty cup. That if they desire love, it
- 19:08starts with self love. They can't look to others for
- 19:13love, they nurture it within themselves.
- 19:18And when they are abundant in love, they've got plenty to
- 19:22give. And when they give, it finds its
- 19:26way back to them. And when that 14 year old really
- 19:32understands that, I want you to give them a hug and feel that
- 19:42acceptance, that self love flowing from you to them and
- 19:45them to you. I want you to get a sense that
- 19:51you are healing an inner child. And an unhealed inner child will
- 20:01try and protect you, but now you are protecting the inner child.
- 20:11And you don't protect the inner child through control or self
- 20:15sabotage. You protect the inner child
- 20:20through resilience. Those that are afraid of being
- 20:28abandoned or left may sabotage your relationship before it can
- 20:32flourish. They might seek validation or
- 20:38passion or obsession rather than something real.
- 20:44Nobody can have a guarantee of love.
- 20:48That's what makes it real love. It carries a risk.
- 20:54And I want you to imagine going forwards in time, seeing how
- 20:59that healed in a child would have done things differently.
- 21:09I want you to see if maybe things that gave them anxiety
- 21:15didn't do so much. If they needed that love from a
- 21:17sibling or a partner, maybe it's because they didn't feel it
- 21:23within themselves. A flower that is wilted would do
- 21:31anything for sunshine and rainwater, but a flower with all
- 21:37of those things can want the sunshine and rainwater, but not
- 21:41needed. Not be afraid of losing it.
- 21:45And I want you to feel that you are wiser now.
- 21:53The things that have happened have been a rational response to
- 22:02feelings of overwhelming loss as a child.
- 22:07But what if now self love and vulnerability mean that your
- 22:15whole nervous system can calm down?
- 22:19You don't need guarantees of love.
- 22:24Anyone that needs a guarantee will find something that is a
- 22:29substitute. I want you to get a sense that
- 22:34you're not interested in a substitute, otherwise you
- 22:38wouldn't have tried to manifest something real.
- 22:41I want you to get a sense that now, now you feel that you are
- 22:51safe to pursue what is really desirable.
- 23:00And over the next few days and weeks, new thoughts will pop
- 23:05into your mind, new ways of evaluating things.
- 23:11Any anxiety is now just echoes. The real clues will be intuitive
- 23:17thoughts about what you really want.
- 23:22Not guarantees, but something real.
- 23:25And something real can't be guaranteed.
- 23:27And if your unconscious mind is open to new beliefs, new ideas,
- 23:34new ways of thinking about what you truly desire, let me know by
- 23:40nodding your head. That's it.
- 23:44And I want you to visit that inner child one more time around
- 23:51the age of 20, just before a panic attack where they started
- 23:57to feel like they had the things they really wanted.
- 24:03And I want you to remind that younger version of you, what
- 24:09they really want, they can provide from within.
- 24:11I want you to get a sense that that version of them.
- 24:19Tell them they are worthy, they deserve good things.
- 24:28And when they accept that, let me know by nodding your head and
- 24:32give that 20 year old a hug. Tell them they're loved, tell
- 24:36them they're worthy, they're valuable.
- 24:41Tell them all the things you needed to hear when you were
- 24:44that age. And I want you to feel that this
- 24:50inner child that was doing everything to protect you now
- 24:55feels that have a new way of protecting you, not through fear
- 25:00of losing something that you value, but by giving you the
- 25:04self love you've always craved. And connect with that Now.
- 25:17Connect with that self love and every do, every time you do
- 25:21something nice for yourself, you're giving yourself that
- 25:29thing that you value. And you can go back to this in a
- 25:41child at any age, at any time. But for now, it's time to return
- 25:47to the present but feeling like something has changed.
- 25:54Something that means that that state of hyper vigilance is no
- 25:59longer needed as you've healed a relationship with a part of
- 26:03yourself to take a deep breath in through your nose and out
- 26:10through your nose. Just wiggle your fingers and
- 26:12wiggle your toes. Connect and calibrate into the
- 26:16here and the now. That's it as I now count from
- 26:191:00 to 10:00 to awaken. But the part that awakens is
- 26:25that healed part, that calm part.
- 26:29The part that feels that the future you really desire is now
- 26:35possible. Starting to count. 123 Waking
- 26:40up. 456 More alert. 7-8 Open your eyes.
- 26:47Open your eyes and sit. 910 wide awake, wide awake, wide awake.
