- 0:41Speaker 4: he does every single week at eight am, Doctor stephen
- 0:45Speaker 4: Ethridge Dot, Good morning, how are we.
- 0:47Speaker 5: Doing doing great? Doing awesome?
- 0:49Speaker 2: Well, yeah, you're doing awesome. It's training camp.
- 0:51Speaker 5: Dare any camp day one baby.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Day one week scited?
- 0:53Speaker 5: We excited. I'm actually this time of year.
- 0:55Speaker 6: Sometimes I'm not because you know, this is like, oh gosh,
- 0:58Speaker 6: Like basically this past weekend was my last weekend, you know,
- 1:01Speaker 6: until by weekend basically and then then it's only one
- 1:04Speaker 6: and then so so so usually I'm a little bit
- 1:06Speaker 6: still dreading it. But I think just there's a lot
- 1:07Speaker 6: of enthusiasm that this is a new year, it's a
- 1:09Speaker 6: new team, it's a new staff, and there's got that
- 1:12Speaker 6: new car set.
- 1:13Speaker 5: Yeah, so I'm enjoying writing it around.
- 1:15Speaker 4: They were curious We're curious to see, like how all
- 1:17Speaker 4: the pieces work together, how all the coaches intermingle support,
- 1:21Speaker 4: like how the coaches work with the support staff, the doctor.
- 1:24Speaker 4: Like you've seen it a little bit in spring. Yeah,
- 1:26Speaker 4: but stuff hits the fan right now, it's about to.
- 1:28Speaker 6: And you know, we were out there yesterday and we
- 1:29Speaker 6: did a I do like a lecture for the team
- 1:31Speaker 6: and the staff on catastrophic injuries, like how do we
- 1:34Speaker 6: handle these things, kind of go over them like, hey,
- 1:35Speaker 6: if this happens, this is what we're gonna do. And
- 1:37Speaker 6: then we did a CPR session with the coaches. All
- 1:39Speaker 6: the coaches got their certification yesterday, so so it really
- 1:42Speaker 6: started for p US yesterday.
- 1:43Speaker 5: Yeah, and it's good. It's good.
- 1:44Speaker 6: You never know when stuff's gonna happen, and if we're
- 1:46Speaker 6: not there it's a meeting or something crazy. You want
- 1:48Speaker 6: to have people that know what to do. So I
- 1:50Speaker 6: will say I was I was impressed with the coach's interaction. Yeah,
- 1:52Speaker 6: some years, they're kind of this group. They they kind
- 1:55Speaker 6: of stepped up. They seem to actually enjoy the opportunity
- 1:59Speaker 6: to learn. So you brought up the bye week.
- 2:02Speaker 7: This is the first time in a couple of years,
- 2:03Speaker 7: you've had less than two bye weeks, right.
- 2:05Speaker 6: Yeah, the past few years we've had the double you
- 2:07Speaker 6: know which, which again that was kind of the anomaly
- 2:08Speaker 6: for a while, but then yeah, it happened a few
- 2:10Speaker 6: times in a row. But we're yeah, I guess maybe
- 2:12Speaker 6: we're starting later. Maybe that that plays into it. I'm
- 2:14Speaker 6: not I don't know scheduling stuff.
- 2:16Speaker 4: So, Doc, you got a new staff coming in, And
- 2:18Speaker 4: I'm always curious, like the common pieces that stay with
- 2:22Speaker 4: the program during a coaches app while so much change
- 2:25Speaker 4: is happen, and so you see it all the time
- 2:26Speaker 4: with equipment managers, trainers, doctors, like video crew, Like there's
- 2:30Speaker 4: there's pieces that stay that stay for a long time
- 2:33Speaker 4: multiple coaches aff I'm always curious to see, like how
- 2:38Speaker 4: different it is with the new coaching staff and how
- 2:41Speaker 4: they you know, mingle and connect and there's a there's
- 2:44Speaker 4: a specific relationship that has to have between the head
- 2:47Speaker 4: coach and the doctors because the doctors don't usually deliver
- 2:50Speaker 4: the best of news to a coach. They're saying, hey,
- 2:52Speaker 4: your best player can't play. When a new coach comes in,
- 2:56Speaker 4: like lane kif it, like, is there a meeting where
- 2:59Speaker 4: the expectation of the relationship is kind of set and
- 3:03Speaker 4: like do you have to kind of deal with different
- 3:05Speaker 4: personalities a different way? Like how does he want news delivered?
- 3:08Speaker 4: Like what's that expectation between that doctor coach relationship?
- 3:11Speaker 5: It is different, you know, every coach is different. And
- 3:14Speaker 5: usually we do have a meeting.
- 3:15Speaker 6: And then we had one, you know a little bit
- 3:16Speaker 6: after after Coach Kiven got there. We you know, we
- 3:19Speaker 6: let them kind of get acclimated and you know, we
- 3:21Speaker 6: sit down, have a talk and and kind of like
- 3:23Speaker 6: we were just in a moment ago. Then once once
- 3:24Speaker 6: the stuff hits the fan, some of those things are
- 3:26Speaker 6: going to change. You know, the reality you kind of
- 3:28Speaker 6: figure out, you know, kind of baptism by fire whatever,
- 3:31Speaker 6: you know, metaphors we want to use here, but the
- 3:32Speaker 6: reality of it, you know, yeah, it is different.
- 3:35Speaker 5: We we tried our best to have.
- 3:37Speaker 6: A plan and and then the plan adjust at when
- 3:40Speaker 6: things happen.
- 3:41Speaker 5: And but but I will say, you know, it's it's
- 3:43Speaker 5: it's been fun. Uh. This staff has really embraced it.
- 3:46Speaker 6: I've been really happy with what I've seen out of
- 3:48Speaker 6: them because it's a different mentality. The last group that
- 3:51Speaker 6: came in came in with the hey we're your savior.
- 3:54Speaker 6: Are so lucky to have us, you know, And it
- 3:56Speaker 6: was it was it was that feeling it all, Yeah,
- 3:59Speaker 6: it was it was.
- 4:00Speaker 5: It was uncomfortable.
- 4:01Speaker 6: It wasn't a lot of fun to be honest with, right,
- 4:04Speaker 6: uh in the beginning. And then this new staff comes
- 4:07Speaker 6: in and almost to a t all of them are like, Hey,
- 4:09Speaker 6: we're so excited to be a part of LSU. We're
- 4:11Speaker 6: excited to be here. They're embracing the culture way more.
- 4:14Speaker 6: And I think that's kind of showing thus far just
- 4:16Speaker 6: in the interactions we're seeing, and for us, it makes
- 4:18Speaker 6: it a lot easier. You known't I don't feel like
- 4:19Speaker 6: the outsider, which was kind of interesting because I at
- 4:22Speaker 6: this point been.
- 4:22Speaker 5: Here as long as very very few people in the building.
- 4:26Speaker 6: This mean transitions other than the medical like you said,
- 4:28Speaker 6: and uh it it made me feel like an outsider
- 4:31Speaker 6: last time, whereas now I'm like, hey, this is this
- 4:33Speaker 6: is kind of fun.
- 4:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm assuming that news is hard to break. The
- 4:37Speaker 4: coaches sometimes, and you see, you know, I think we
- 4:39Speaker 4: saw it with the Giants last year with Dayball and
- 4:41Speaker 4: their coach like yelling at the doctor about the concussion
- 4:44Speaker 4: stuff and going into the tent and things like that.
- 4:47Speaker 4: You ever had a situation where you got to tell
- 4:49Speaker 4: it coach and bad news and he didn't necessarily want
- 4:51Speaker 4: to hear it.
- 4:52Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, it happens.
- 4:53Speaker 6: You know, we had a we had an athlete this
- 4:54Speaker 6: past season who got a concussion in warm ups. I
- 4:57Speaker 6: don't want to be too specific, so I don't remember
- 4:59Speaker 6: how much you did, but but we had one and
- 5:02Speaker 6: it was a starter. And and I remember coach comes
- 5:04Speaker 6: in and look, I don't I don't get mad at coaching.
- 5:06Speaker 6: Here he's angry because he's like, how did this happen?
- 5:09Speaker 6: And I'm wondering the same thing, like guys were in
- 5:10Speaker 6: warm ups? How did this happen? So so, and he's
- 5:13Speaker 6: he's upset about it, and he basically asking who who
- 5:16Speaker 6: was at the saidiatic concussion. You know, I had to
- 5:17Speaker 6: kind of raise the hand right over here, coach, you know,
- 5:19Speaker 6: And and it's.
- 5:21Speaker 2: It's I need a second opinion.
- 5:22Speaker 6: Yeah, it's yeah, it's they want them sometimes they're not
- 5:25Speaker 6: gonna get him on the sideline typically, you know, it's
- 5:27Speaker 6: it's tough, and and I am the opinion.
- 5:29Speaker 5: It's well, it's funny.
- 5:30Speaker 4: I am science, you know, I I've.
- 5:35Speaker 5: Tried right right, Apparently that works.
- 5:38Speaker 4: I didn't know I to do that.
- 5:41Speaker 6: It's an option that gummy. I miss missed my chance there.
- 5:44Speaker 6: But uh, what's funny. I saw the other day in
- 5:46Speaker 6: the facility and just up there and seeing Coacho up there,
- 5:48Speaker 6: and I told him the story about and the Festa
- 5:50Speaker 6: Bowl when Burrow.
- 5:51Speaker 5: Took, you know, the vicious kame he took.
- 5:53Speaker 6: I am mentally preparing myself the whole walk out there,
- 5:57Speaker 6: the whole walk back, I'm intentionally slow walking it back,
- 5:59Speaker 6: like I gotta hell, Coach, he's gonna be out.
- 6:01Speaker 5: And then we get him on the sideline.
- 6:02Speaker 6: You are you vound clear as a bell, and I'm like,
- 6:04Speaker 6: I'm looking for a reason to put him out cause
- 6:05Speaker 6: I'm like, I know he's out.
- 6:06Speaker 5: I saw the hit. There's no way clear and go
- 6:09Speaker 5: back in.
- 6:09Speaker 6: I'm like, this is my you know, backside on the line,
- 6:11Speaker 6: and every test he passed, he's clear as it. And
- 6:13Speaker 6: finally I go to coach and like he's good. But
- 6:15Speaker 6: I had to in my head, I'm like, oh gosh,
- 6:17Speaker 6: like you you had yeah, yeah, I'm already sure that
- 6:20Speaker 6: you're evaluation right, I'm getting ready, and I'm like I'm
- 6:23Speaker 6: like seriously, the way out and way back.
- 6:24Speaker 5: I'm like, my god, tell coach, I gotta, I gotta
- 6:26Speaker 5: give him that bad news.
- 6:27Speaker 2: You know, because you saw every the same thing everybody
- 6:29Speaker 2: else saw.
- 6:29Speaker 5: You're like, there's no way this guy cannot be Okay, Yeah.
- 6:33Speaker 4: We've got this other kid got a concussion during warm ups.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Definitely got it.
- 6:37Speaker 6: He's definitely got one right, and it was so so
- 6:39Speaker 6: so sometimes it's it's doesn't doesn't go the way you're thinking. Fortunately,
- 6:42Speaker 6: but but yeah, you never want to tell the coach
- 6:44Speaker 6: bad news. That's that's one of the harder parts. The
- 6:45Speaker 6: only thing is hard is topally telling the kids and
- 6:47Speaker 6: especially really bad news. But on the sideline outside of
- 6:49Speaker 6: catastrophic stuff, yeah, having to break that news.
- 6:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:52Speaker 4: Is there anything in the concussion test? And I'm sure
- 6:55Speaker 4: a lot of it, there's nothing like one. Is there
- 6:57Speaker 4: anything objective that you're looking for? Is it all opinion
- 7:00Speaker 4: based on experience and just doing it hundreds and hundreds
- 7:04Speaker 4: of times.
- 7:05Speaker 5: It's it's more the latter.
- 7:06Speaker 6: It's it's you know, you could argue there are some
- 7:08Speaker 6: objective tests, but there is nothing right now that we
- 7:11Speaker 6: have Availa. There's a lot of stuff we're developing there's
- 7:13Speaker 6: there's potentially a saliva test. In fact, Lshu's involved in
- 7:15Speaker 6: research for a saliva test that you can theoretically get
- 7:19Speaker 6: results back.
- 7:19Speaker 5: Maybe we'll see. But yeah, it's.
- 7:22Speaker 6: Mostly you've had to you have to kind of look
- 7:23Speaker 6: at the individual gouy do your exam. Some of them
- 7:25Speaker 6: are super obvious, but those ones that you know, it's
- 7:28Speaker 6: kind of subtle, those can be tough. And and and look,
- 7:30Speaker 6: I don't ever want to put an athlete out there
- 7:32Speaker 6: that's injured. I don't ever want somebody to go out
- 7:33Speaker 6: there the concussion. But on the other hand, you don't
- 7:35Speaker 6: want to hold a guy back. I mean, it's for
- 7:37Speaker 6: people who say it's it's it's not a big deal,
- 7:39Speaker 6: it is that this is a huge deal, like.
- 7:41Speaker 5: How much money's involved. These are these guys' careers, this
- 7:43Speaker 5: is their future.
- 7:44Speaker 6: So if I hold a guy back, if I'd held
- 7:46Speaker 6: Burrow out of that that Fiesta Bowl.
- 7:47Speaker 5: Game, just well, he did take a bad hit. I'm
- 7:49Speaker 5: not sure he can go back in, you know.
- 7:52Speaker 6: So so if I'd done that, you know, the trajectory
- 7:54Speaker 6: of that team might have changed, and his trajectory might
- 7:56Speaker 6: have changed, and so many things could have happened.
- 7:58Speaker 5: From that one decision that would have been the wrong decision.
- 8:00Speaker 7: That the car crazy thing to think because that that,
- 8:03Speaker 7: I mean, it's joked around a lot on social media.
- 8:05Speaker 7: That felt like a turning point for everything. Like he
- 8:07Speaker 7: got up and then they put up like twenty something
- 8:09Speaker 7: points in a row. That is really good.
- 8:11Speaker 6: I feel like the legend of Joe Burrow started that much. Yeah,
- 8:13Speaker 6: you know that's didn't start nineteen and not the beginning
- 8:15Speaker 6: of eighteen. It started, in my opinion, and again, we
- 8:18Speaker 6: it wouldn't have been if.
- 8:20Speaker 5: If I had held him. Nobody said it was crazy.
- 8:21Speaker 6: We all saw the hit and it was you know,
- 8:24Speaker 6: you have to make the right call and sometimes it's
- 8:26Speaker 6: it's not easy.
- 8:27Speaker 7: I don't want to give you too much credit because
- 8:28Speaker 7: I think personally it was when he got pants to
- 8:31Speaker 7: Mississippi State and the world got to see Joe Burrow's backside.
- 8:35Speaker 7: I think that's when.
- 8:35Speaker 6: Everyone that was a good moment as well. Yeah that was,
- 8:38Speaker 6: but for some people that was when it probably started.
- 8:39Speaker 4: I will say, and you it's a it's a fair
- 8:45Speaker 4: point because like the whole concussion diagnosis is, you know,
- 8:48Speaker 4: it's it's experience, it's seeing the indicators, it's not like
- 8:52Speaker 4: a specific objective thing that it's like, it's not like
- 8:55Speaker 4: taking a a.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Strap strap throat test where it's like, yeah, have you
- 8:58Speaker 2: got it. We're not.
- 8:59Speaker 4: It's it's you're looking at it and you've got to
- 9:01Speaker 4: make a decision. And like you said, like some of
- 9:03Speaker 4: these bits, like it's Joe Burrow, like you diagnose some
- 9:06Speaker 4: of the concussion that it doesn't get that that goes
- 9:09Speaker 4: on the carfax, Like when people try to buy him later,
- 9:11Speaker 4: they're gonna look back and be like, Okay, that year
- 9:14Speaker 4: on that like he got a concussion. So I can't
- 9:15Speaker 4: over that goes into the evaluating process of the athlete.
- 9:19Speaker 5: It does.
- 9:19Speaker 6: It does, And that's why I tell a lot of
- 9:21Speaker 6: our we have a you know, a sports mess and fellowship.
- 9:23Speaker 6: We train a lot of people, and one of the
- 9:25Speaker 6: things I always tell them is like, if you're not sure,
- 9:27Speaker 6: you can still hold them out, but don't say it's concussion.
- 9:30Speaker 6: So I always tell my guys like, look, let's call
- 9:32Speaker 6: it a headache. Let's do our ev ow and then
- 9:34Speaker 6: if we know it's concussion, we can always say then
- 9:35Speaker 6: because once you have it on there, you can't really
- 9:37Speaker 6: go back to the medical right and erase that that's
- 9:38Speaker 6: gonna look really really skeedul, that even looks worse. So
- 9:41Speaker 6: so yeah, I tell people, look, let's let's do our
- 9:43Speaker 6: evaw if you're at all worried, we hold them out,
- 9:45Speaker 6: let's continue the evaluation process, because yeah, once it's there,
- 9:48Speaker 6: it's there, and it's in the record, and so so again,
- 9:51Speaker 6: we aren't gonna lie about it. If you have a concussion,
- 9:53Speaker 6: they have a conussion, we're gonna treat it as such.
- 9:55Speaker 6: But let's make sure. And then sometimes it's not immediately evident.
- 9:59Speaker 4: How are power pitch counts decided in training camp and
- 10:02Speaker 4: throughout the year too, whether it's a soft tissue injury,
- 10:04Speaker 4: whether it's a guy that may be coming off an
- 10:06Speaker 4: injury from last year. You know, you take like and
- 10:09Speaker 4: you don't don't get specifical, like I'll say, like, what
- 10:12Speaker 4: weeks he has the injuries? He has told us on
- 10:14Speaker 4: the show that he's entering camp for the first time
- 10:15Speaker 4: ever fully healthy. But so there's probably pitch counts put
- 10:20Speaker 4: on players. Who comes up with that number? Is that
- 10:22Speaker 4: a I'm assuming it's some sort of conversation between everybody
- 10:26Speaker 4: between you, the doctors, the training staff, and the coaches,
- 10:29Speaker 4: or is there sometimes where it's like a hard line
- 10:31Speaker 4: where like no coach he like he can't do more
- 10:34Speaker 4: than this, this and.
- 10:35Speaker 5: That, but both are true.
- 10:36Speaker 6: You know, we use the term a lot share decision
- 10:38Speaker 6: making in sports medicine because a lot of times it
- 10:41Speaker 6: is a discussion. You know, we'll the team docs, with
- 10:43Speaker 6: the athletic trainers, with the coach, with the player, depending
- 10:45Speaker 6: on the circumstance. And I don't I don't know that
- 10:48Speaker 6: there's an exact science, because there really, you know, there
- 10:50Speaker 6: really isn't. You know, you have to look at each individual,
- 10:52Speaker 6: use your best judgment, use your experience, sometimes understanding the
- 10:55Speaker 6: coaching staff. So we've had a coaching staff that are
- 10:57Speaker 6: way more receptive toward the ideas than others.
- 10:59Speaker 5: So sometimes you got to.
- 11:00Speaker 6: Be a little bit more aggressive with your stance as
- 11:03Speaker 6: a medical staff, and other times you can kind of,
- 11:05Speaker 6: you know, have a good conversation, say, look, coach this guy,
- 11:07Speaker 6: I really think we need to kind of watch this injury.
- 11:10Speaker 6: It's something where if you had to go, we could
- 11:12Speaker 6: or and you just kind of figure all that out.
- 11:13Speaker 6: And so it's it's it's there's not really an easy.
- 11:17Speaker 5: Way to do it.
- 11:17Speaker 6: I think it takes a lot of experience, and you know,
- 11:19Speaker 6: we're fortunate to have a lot of good people around
- 11:21Speaker 6: the team. Our training staff there, the Outhreic trainers are awesome.
- 11:24Speaker 6: I've been very lucky since I've been here. We've had
- 11:25Speaker 6: a really good staff, even when we've had some changes.
- 11:28Speaker 6: So that helps because they understand the coaches, they understand
- 11:30Speaker 6: the culture more than I do. So then you know,
- 11:33Speaker 6: as a doc, we'll sit down with them this is
- 11:35Speaker 6: this is the best plan.
- 11:36Speaker 5: Uh. But but it's it's it's not exact.
- 11:38Speaker 4: That's refer Have you ever had a kid you're evaluating
- 11:41Speaker 4: or talking to, maybe it's before practice, maybe it's after
- 11:44Speaker 4: a practice or before a game or something. He's telling
- 11:46Speaker 4: you as symptoms and he's telling you what's going on,
- 11:49Speaker 4: and you've evaluated him and you've looked at him, and
- 11:51Speaker 4: have you ever just said like, hey, stop being up,
- 11:53Speaker 4: you know what, and and you're not hurt, get back
- 11:56Speaker 4: out there.
- 11:57Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 11:58Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, well, you know, obviously we are trying
- 12:02Speaker 6: to try to be polite with it, you know, but
- 12:03Speaker 6: now sometimes the trainers that's that's in there's different lines.
- 12:06Speaker 6: The trainers are oftentimes a little more blunt with the guys,
- 12:08Speaker 6: right because they have that relationship.
- 12:09Speaker 5: They're there every day and they're like, Louke Man, you know,
- 12:11Speaker 5: we know.
- 12:12Speaker 2: You, we got it.
- 12:13Speaker 5: Suck it up. But yeah, sometimes I have to say
- 12:15Speaker 5: Luke Man that you know this, there's nothing wrong with you. You're good.
- 12:17Speaker 6: Get out there and and and I think sometimes the guys,
- 12:21Speaker 6: you know, they look, I've been there, We've been tired.
- 12:23Speaker 6: You just feel like you need a day off. You're
- 12:24Speaker 6: not feeling your best, and sometimes that you just need
- 12:26Speaker 6: a little kicking the keystra y.
- 12:28Speaker 4: Yeah, you gotta get the doctor.
- 12:30Speaker 2: The movie The.
- 12:30Speaker 7: Miracle, what is it, It's like someone was like leg
- 12:34Speaker 7: being hurt, like I mean different being hurt or injured.
- 12:37Speaker 5: Yeah, so that's that's a big thing. I'm sure it is.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Let's switch the focus a little bit too towards the
- 12:43Speaker 4: NFL right now, and let's talk about some some x
- 12:45Speaker 4: L s U players jayde and Daniels going into his
- 12:49Speaker 4: third season, historic rookie season the last year, suffered through
- 12:53Speaker 4: a couple of different injuries. He had a little bit
- 12:56Speaker 4: of he had a niece brain a week two or
- 12:57Speaker 4: a hamstring issue, but the main injury that kept him
- 13:00Speaker 4: out was a hyper extension, kind of a gross one
- 13:02Speaker 4: hyper extension on the left elbow. Talk about recovery from that.
- 13:07Speaker 4: Obviously much better that's on his left arm than his
- 13:11Speaker 4: right arm, but talk about that that kind of recovery.
- 13:13Speaker 4: Is there any Yeah, I'm assuming this is probably he
- 13:17Speaker 4: he heard it, then he reheard it later in the season,
- 13:19Speaker 4: so it's probably seven six, seven, eight months something like
- 13:22Speaker 4: that since he last heard it. Any anything for any
- 13:25Speaker 4: LSU fans or Commander fans will be worried about, you.
- 13:27Speaker 6: Know, I don't think so, especially now he's had the
- 13:29Speaker 6: time and to your point, it's the left side, so
- 13:31Speaker 6: right side. I'd be a lot more concerned with this
- 13:33Speaker 6: injury because if you dislocate a joint, complete dislocation of
- 13:36Speaker 6: a joint, which he had, you tear something's it's not
- 13:39Speaker 6: it's not a maybe, it's you did you know?
- 13:41Speaker 2: And tendons. I know there's a big nerve in there.
- 13:43Speaker 6: So at the very least, yet you have a bunch
- 13:45Speaker 6: of ligaments around there. You do have the older nerve
- 13:46Speaker 6: that runs right behind the elbow, and you can have
- 13:49Speaker 6: damage the owner RB.
- 13:50Speaker 5: Now that would be a little more concerning.
- 13:51Speaker 6: Because you know, taking a snap, doing all those things,
- 13:53Speaker 6: if you had some nerve damage and you had some
- 13:55Speaker 6: some residual numbness, weakness in the hand. Doesn't seem like
- 13:57Speaker 6: he had any of that, so you know, that would
- 13:59Speaker 6: have been pretty obvious early on. But the reality of it, Yeah,
- 14:03Speaker 6: I'm sure he tore some ligaments, at the very least
- 14:04Speaker 6: around the elbow. Now, some of those will scaring, and
- 14:07Speaker 6: heel wellis you don't always need surgery. If it was
- 14:09Speaker 6: a throwing arm, it probably would have been a surgical thing.
- 14:11Speaker 6: And then you're you're really worried about how, you know,
- 14:14Speaker 6: his mechanics and everything's going to be coming forward, so
- 14:16Speaker 6: so dodge the bullet with that. At least it was
- 14:19Speaker 6: the left side, And you know, I don't think I'd
- 14:21Speaker 6: be that worried about it. If anything, you know, the
- 14:23Speaker 6: things I worry more about in a guy like him,
- 14:25Speaker 6: you know, is going to be the hamstrings and the knee.
- 14:26Speaker 6: And again those weren't serious injuries, but he relies a
- 14:29Speaker 6: lot in his legs. You know, he's a talented passer
- 14:31Speaker 6: as well. But but you know, a huge part of
- 14:33Speaker 6: his game is his athletic ability and and and you know,
- 14:36Speaker 6: I'm assuming he's done a lot of rehab on that,
- 14:38Speaker 6: so I'm not really overly worried there either.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Can you can?
- 14:40Speaker 4: You like, you have tendons and ligaments that obviously gave out,
- 14:44Speaker 4: like you said, to stretched out like and you hear
- 14:46Speaker 4: it with the Achilles stuff. You hear people talking about
- 14:48Speaker 4: the rubber band, like the rubber band, and sometimes it's
- 14:51Speaker 4: just an old rubber band and sometimes but rubber bands,
- 14:54Speaker 4: once they get stretched, they're not as tight as they
- 14:56Speaker 4: used to be as well. So like in the elbow,
- 14:58Speaker 4: something happens like that, is it can you strengthen that
- 15:01Speaker 4: back up to a point to a point that it's
- 15:04Speaker 4: like as stable as it was.
- 15:05Speaker 5: You can? You can, or at least very close. You know.
- 15:07Speaker 6: Sometimes we'll look at a joint that had a previous injury,
- 15:10Speaker 6: like his elbow potentially, or you know, somebody had an
- 15:12Speaker 6: old MCL sprain or something like that, and they're gonna
- 15:15Speaker 6: have a little more laxity than what is quote normal.
- 15:17Speaker 6: But if you really do a good job strengthen up
- 15:19Speaker 6: everything around it, most of the times people do just fine.
- 15:21Speaker 5: There's a lot of guys.
- 15:22Speaker 6: Playing at every sport, in every league, at every level
- 15:25Speaker 6: that have had, you know, an old MCL injury that
- 15:28Speaker 6: maybe still a little loose, but doesn't bother them at
- 15:30Speaker 6: all or once in a blue moon. Now it can
- 15:32Speaker 6: be a problem too if it's super loose and super relax, so.
- 15:35Speaker 5: There probably is some evidence of it.
- 15:37Speaker 6: But yes, if you heal well, if you do some
- 15:40Speaker 6: good mustard strengthening and rehab, you can do a lot
- 15:42Speaker 6: to compensate for that.
- 15:44Speaker 7: So outside of obviously season ending, career ending like anything
- 15:49Speaker 7: like super bad like that, What's what's like the one
- 15:52Speaker 7: industry or injury you don't want to see? Like I remember,
- 15:56Speaker 7: like there was like one year I pulled something like
- 15:58Speaker 7: the back of my knee, like like the like the
- 16:00Speaker 7: lower part of my hamstrings, something like that, and it
- 16:02Speaker 7: just nagged the entire year. What's like the one thing
- 16:06Speaker 7: you don't want to see this early on.
- 16:07Speaker 6: In camp, Well, we're gonna see softissue injuries, hamstrings something
- 16:10Speaker 6: that I hate seeing them. But just because you know,
- 16:12Speaker 6: once you have it, especially in some of these speed
- 16:14Speaker 6: you know powerful guys, you know, once it's there, they
- 16:17Speaker 6: are bear. We've got a lot of things we're able
- 16:19Speaker 6: to do to help them out, but just just you
- 16:21Speaker 6: do worry about those, uh. And I think we talked
- 16:23Speaker 6: about some of it, and this is one that's just
- 16:24Speaker 6: in general medicine. I hate seeing in any of our
- 16:26Speaker 6: guys if they have any kind of cartilage damage, anything
- 16:28Speaker 6: inside the joint just doesn't heal as well. So probably
- 16:31Speaker 6: a little bit of both that we're talking about from
- 16:33Speaker 6: a long term standpoint, Probably the cartilage if we're talking
- 16:35Speaker 6: about just something in camp, even though I know we're
- 16:37Speaker 6: gonna see him. I hate seeing the hamstrings in the
- 16:39Speaker 6: quads and the soft issue just because those keep poking
- 16:42Speaker 6: their heads back up.
- 16:43Speaker 4: I gotta say, I don't want to see any more
- 16:45Speaker 4: oblique injuries. It's fair, yeah, yeah, and the soft tissue
- 16:51Speaker 4: like hamstring for whatever reason, Like it's just hard to rehab.
- 16:54Speaker 6: It right, and how to get back to normal like
- 16:57Speaker 6: in the season. Yeah, that's not just rest. Yeah, goes
- 17:00Speaker 6: down to that pitch count. Now how much is too much?
- 17:01Speaker 6: And at some point you gotta tested out whatever it is.
- 17:04Speaker 6: That's what I tell you, guys.
- 17:05Speaker 5: Look at you.
- 17:05Speaker 6: You're never gonna be perfect. We're gonna have to get
- 17:07Speaker 6: you out there. You're gonna feel it a little bit.
- 17:09Speaker 6: And then the problem is when does it go from
- 17:10Speaker 6: feeling it to re injuring and reaggravating it, and then
- 17:13Speaker 6: it's a it's a fine line.
- 17:15Speaker 4: Well, thank goodness, we don't have any electric magnetic fields
- 17:18Speaker 4: next to our died.
- 17:21Speaker 2: I mean, they keep trying to deny it, Doc, can
- 17:23Speaker 2: you believe it?
- 17:26Speaker 5: So many it's you know, it's obviously the costs. I
- 17:30Speaker 5: think this is there. There's something there said something.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Uh, well, Doc, we we thank you so much for
- 17:39Speaker 4: your time each and every week. And I know your
- 17:42Speaker 4: life's about to get busier, but in a good way,
- 17:44Speaker 4: a couple of different ways. Got football starting, You've got family, man,
- 17:50Speaker 4: it's going to be a good.
- 17:51Speaker 5: Call for you. It's gonna be a good fall. I'm excited.
- 17:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm excited. So that's hopefully that l s U
- 17:55Speaker 4: stays healthy. And but we know that it is a
- 17:57Speaker 4: collision sport and you are going to at least be busy,

- 21:01Speaker 4: we got still talking season. I know training camp is
- 21:03Speaker 4: upon us. I know we're getting the practice field today
- 21:05Speaker 4: all around the country, LSU Tigers, I know the Saints
- 21:08Speaker 4: have been probably for about a week now, but it's
- 21:11Speaker 4: you know, it's still talking season. There's only so much
- 21:13Speaker 4: we can see, only so much we can gather. We
- 21:16Speaker 4: love seeing players on the practice field playing tackle football.
- 21:20Speaker 4: But it's also top twenty five season Coaches pole comes
- 21:24Speaker 4: out yesterday.
- 21:25Speaker 5: It drops first one they dropped it.
- 21:27Speaker 4: And a lot to discuss from that, A lot of
- 21:30Speaker 4: talk about and like I'm not a guy I can't like, lie,
- 21:33Speaker 4: I can't say that I am really interested in just
- 21:37Speaker 4: like looking at the top twenty five schedules, like especially
- 21:40Speaker 4: the preseason one. But it is a good insight and
- 21:43Speaker 4: a good look into the opinions that people have across
- 21:47Speaker 4: the country and specifically about your roster.
- 21:51Speaker 7: The SEC bias, SEC.
- 21:53Speaker 4: Bias, that's right, and it is predictable that kind of
- 21:57Speaker 4: the narrative is the Big Ten. Of course they've won
- 21:59Speaker 4: three national championships in a row and everybody is viewing
- 22:04Speaker 4: them as top heavy and the SEC being a little
- 22:07Speaker 4: bit more more depth. And of course that SEC with
- 22:10Speaker 4: nine teams total in the top twenty five, Big Ten,
- 22:15Speaker 4: number one and number two Ohio State number one, organ
- 22:18Speaker 4: number two, and then so they have three teams in
- 22:21Speaker 4: the top thirteen and SEC has seventeens in the top thirteen.
- 22:26Speaker 4: So that does kind of go to shay E and
- 22:28Speaker 4: does complete that narrative of the top heavy viewpoint across
- 22:31Speaker 4: the country of the Big Ten and more depth with
- 22:33Speaker 4: the SEC.
- 22:34Speaker 7: It's also it also proves the point that the ESPN
- 22:39Speaker 7: literally held a gun to the heavy coaches and you
- 22:41Speaker 7: better put the SEC in here.
- 22:45Speaker 5: Loaded.
- 22:46Speaker 7: I mean, who knows your rusty knife. So Mason jar okay.
- 22:53Speaker 4: All right, number one Ohio State, number two. Oregan Georgia
- 22:57Speaker 4: comes in at number three. A little bit of surprise
- 22:59Speaker 4: that they're to Texas, I think, I mean just because
- 23:02Speaker 4: of what I heard at SEC media, boy was going
- 23:04Speaker 4: to put Texas at number one in the country. Yeah,
- 23:07Speaker 4: I mean they've beat them three times last year. I
- 23:09Speaker 4: got it, Like I get it. I'm I'm I'm with
- 23:11Speaker 4: you on that. Just from the what I have heard
- 23:13Speaker 4: and hearing people talk is they think Texas is going
- 23:15Speaker 4: to be number one. Texas at number four, Notre Dame,
- 23:18Speaker 4: the cowards themselves.
- 23:19Speaker 8: What the hell?
- 23:20Speaker 2: What is that?
- 23:21Speaker 5: What?
- 23:22Speaker 7: Like?
- 23:22Speaker 8: Why at five.
- 23:25Speaker 9: Day? Because I don't think their rosters that good at all.
- 23:28Speaker 9: Everybody's like CJ. Carr was great last year. Here's okod,
- 23:30Speaker 9: here's good. They have Jordan Faison back at receiver. Outside
- 23:35Speaker 9: of that, you're not going to be able to name
- 23:37Speaker 9: me a guy that they got and lost Price and
- 23:39Speaker 9: Jeremiah Love. It's their schedule. They have an easy schedule.
- 23:42Speaker 9: That's play any one. So what they're trying to do
- 23:46Speaker 9: is be right at the end of the year, be like, hey,
- 23:47Speaker 9: look their name, they're in the top seven we have
- 23:49Speaker 9: preseason number five. Can't really complain, but roster to roster, No,
- 23:53Speaker 9: I don't think they should be that high.
- 23:54Speaker 7: I did get the car fifth in the country last
- 23:55Speaker 7: year QB rating, But I do think you make a
- 23:58Speaker 7: good point. I don't know any of the receiver. I
- 24:00Speaker 7: don't like I know Leonard.
- 24:01Speaker 9: Jordan last year I think had six hundred yards of
- 24:04Speaker 9: four touchdown so good year. But outside of that nothing,
- 24:07Speaker 9: and then they were lied on that running game a lot. Yeah,
- 24:09Speaker 9: those are two first round picks they lost in the backfield.
- 24:12Speaker 9: He's got to carry a lot.
- 24:13Speaker 7: That's schedules.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Yeah, joke. The schedule is easy, is what does Notre
- 24:16Speaker 2: Dame is a joke. They are a joke. They're cowards.
- 24:20Speaker 8: Dare stop putting them top five again.
- 24:24Speaker 7: We joked about this yesterday. We don't have to bring
- 24:26Speaker 7: up the graphic. But I made a joke top twenty
- 24:29Speaker 7: five in January and it's almost the exact same. Yeah,
- 24:34Speaker 7: and it's like pretty serious. They're always going to be
- 24:37Speaker 7: tough five or top eight right like there they're no.
- 24:39Speaker 8: I get it.
- 24:39Speaker 10: I'm not like I get I get I get it.
- 24:43Speaker 10: I don't want them there though, I don't need that
- 24:46Speaker 10: explained to me, I.
- 24:46Speaker 7: Don't improve anything, yeah until win, Like we just want
- 24:50Speaker 7: we get it.
- 24:50Speaker 2: We just want to hate on them.
- 24:51Speaker 9: That's because they because again talent wise, I don't I
- 24:54Speaker 9: don't think it's there, but like you know, easy schedule,
- 24:57Speaker 9: and then I mean, what do we talk about all
- 24:59Speaker 9: off season now it's oh, well, if we're in the
- 25:00Speaker 9: top twelve at the end of the rankings, like we
- 25:02Speaker 9: have to be in the college Football Playoff and their schedule,
- 25:05Speaker 9: like you kind of gott to have assume they're going
- 25:06Speaker 9: to be there unless something drastic happen.
- 25:08Speaker 2: So it is frustrating.
- 25:10Speaker 4: It seems like such common sense to hate them and
- 25:14Speaker 4: to think that they're cowards, And it is shocking to
- 25:16Speaker 4: me how few people actually say it and are out there,
- 25:22Speaker 4: Like so many people hate LSU right for because they're
- 25:27Speaker 4: the coaching change of the timing and the calendar year
- 25:29Speaker 4: for college football and college athletics.
- 25:31Speaker 2: But like, at least we play.
- 25:33Speaker 4: People hate Notre Dame because they are making a mockery
- 25:37Speaker 4: of the system.
- 25:38Speaker 8: They're not even in a conference.
- 25:39Speaker 4: They talked for one week last year. They talked about
- 25:42Speaker 4: this under the table handshake agreement they made to the
- 25:44Speaker 4: playoff convey that said that they are automatically in.
- 25:48Speaker 8: Fact, join a conference.
- 25:51Speaker 7: There's no program in there's no there's no team in
- 25:55Speaker 7: sports that is more catered to throughout history than Notre Dame.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Well, I mean.
- 26:02Speaker 7: The Motark Bowl.
- 26:06Speaker 4: Where the bothers me is the former players and people
- 26:08Speaker 4: that coach there, and they're like you for all those.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Of y'all saying join a conference, y'all just don't understand that.
- 26:15Speaker 4: Nobody understands the history of of Notre Dame and all
- 26:19Speaker 4: this stuff. And I'm like, your players are getting paid
- 26:21Speaker 4: millions of dollars history history, it's not nineteen seventies.
- 26:25Speaker 2: You're not winning national titles.
- 26:28Speaker 7: Stage. They also had, they had they're the only team
- 26:32Speaker 7: that had a built in clause with like college football, like, hey,
- 26:35Speaker 7: if you go ten wins in the BCS area, yeah
- 26:39Speaker 7: that keep in mind they went to eight dating back
- 26:41Speaker 7: to ninety five or something like that in BCS Bowls
- 26:44Speaker 7: and New Year's Six Bowls until recently. But now, I mean, like, listen,
- 26:48Speaker 7: you played a crap schedule and you played there are
- 26:51Speaker 7: two good teams that were on the schedule. You lost
- 26:53Speaker 7: to both of them. Do I think they're one of
- 26:54Speaker 7: the twelve best teams. Sure the resume has account for
- 26:57Speaker 7: something we learned that year before in the SEC. I
- 26:59Speaker 7: don't this idea whatever. There's so many talking points on
- 27:03Speaker 7: this that pissed me off. And you're one thousand percent right,
- 27:05Speaker 7: you're a thousand percent right, You're a thousand percent right
- 27:07Speaker 7: about Notre Dame slander. It is absurd.
- 27:10Speaker 4: It's why does why does national media? Why does college
- 27:16Speaker 4: football pander to them? Why do they? Yeah, I got it,
- 27:21Speaker 4: and then it's a great history, and I think it's
- 27:23Speaker 4: it would be would be It would absolutely be awesome
- 27:26Speaker 4: for Notre Dame if they were in the Big Ten
- 27:28Speaker 4: or they wherever they go.
- 27:31Speaker 7: The A the acc out of all of those, which
- 27:34Speaker 7: is like historically.
- 27:36Speaker 9: The weakest confidence of the other one too.
- 27:38Speaker 7: I mean, it's crazy.
- 27:41Speaker 2: I just don't.
- 27:42Speaker 4: I was always taught as a player at every single level,
- 27:45Speaker 4: even the NFL. Even if you are Tom Brady, football
- 27:49Speaker 4: owes you nothing football continues after you. After you retire,
- 27:53Speaker 4: there will be football played, So you are nobody is
- 27:56Speaker 4: above it. We constantly keep telling Notre Dame that they
- 27:59Speaker 4: are of college football always because there's an exception to
- 28:03Speaker 4: the rule.
- 28:04Speaker 7: I don't see him get boat raced by somebody good.
- 28:07Speaker 4: Yeah, And does that mean they're a bad football team. No, No,
- 28:10Speaker 4: I think Mark Sreeam is a great coach.
- 28:12Speaker 2: I did. I think.
- 28:13Speaker 4: I think there's a lot to like about their team,
- 28:15Speaker 4: their coaches, certainly. Now, their decision that Marcus led him
- 28:19Speaker 4: make last year in the bowl games was awful. It
- 28:21Speaker 4: was a terrible look for Marcus and I didn't expect
- 28:23Speaker 4: that from him.
- 28:24Speaker 7: And think about the narratives that we have, like we
- 28:28Speaker 7: brought up of Texas, like it's ridiculous they'd be the
- 28:30Speaker 7: number one team in the preseason when they didn't win
- 28:32Speaker 7: the Nationals the year before, or you know, being over
- 28:35Speaker 7: Georgia and all that kind of stuff, or like A
- 28:37Speaker 7: and M. Think about like the narrative around A and M,
- 28:39Speaker 7: how they're always ranked too high and they always fall apart.
- 28:42Speaker 7: Another name gotten away with murder for like years, I mean,
- 28:45Speaker 7: like it's it's in. They haven't won a national title.
- 28:49Speaker 7: I'll tell you what I said. That's a Notre dame
- 28:51Speaker 7: for the other day. They have the same amount of
- 28:53Speaker 7: national titles since nineteen eighty nine as Mississippi State, Vanderbilt,
- 28:58Speaker 7: South Carolina. Now it's ridiculous. Got a six No.
- 29:05Speaker 9: I mean, I just think there's a lot of people
- 29:08Speaker 9: that are living in the past. Like Matt talks about
- 29:09Speaker 9: their history, That's what it is. It's history. Like I
- 29:13Speaker 9: put Notre Dame in the same territories Penn State because
- 29:15Speaker 9: they've won pretty much the same recency. I mean, look
- 29:17Speaker 9: where they're at.
- 29:18Speaker 7: Which is another team in the top twenty five that
- 29:21Speaker 7: is going to be ranked higher at the end of
- 29:23Speaker 7: the year because they play a joke of a schedule.
- 29:25Speaker 9: So I'm glad you I'm glad you brought that up
- 29:27Speaker 9: when you were talking about, you know, teams that are
- 29:29Speaker 9: going to be maybe ranked higher. Yeah, Penn State this
- 29:32Speaker 9: year does not play Ohio State, they do not play Indiana,
- 29:35Speaker 9: they do not play Oregon. Their toughest road game is
- 29:38Speaker 9: at Washington and then they play USC at home and Michigan.
- 29:42Speaker 9: Three ranked teams, No High State, no Oregon, uh, no Indiana.
- 29:47Speaker 7: It's the easiest powerful schedule in the country.
- 29:49Speaker 2: I mean, how did you their roster decimated? Well, I
- 29:55Speaker 2: think Matt Campbell's a good coach.
- 29:56Speaker 9: I always like that, but.
- 29:58Speaker 4: But yeah, when that can't you can't win the Kentucky
- 30:01Speaker 4: Derby with the jackass, I don't know what you do,
- 30:05Speaker 4: I wouldn't call you jackass.
- 30:07Speaker 7: I know I'm saying.
- 30:07Speaker 2: I'm saying, like me to donkeys. Well they don't race
- 30:11Speaker 2: in the Kentucky Derby, is all I'm saying.
- 30:12Speaker 4: All right, Number six, Indiana, you're reigning national champions Way
- 30:15Speaker 4: too low, way too low.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Wait when you say load, you mean they're over ranked or.
- 30:21Speaker 5: Really made them.
- 30:24Speaker 9: They lost Fernando, they lost think about all their offensive
- 30:27Speaker 9: weapons outside of outside of Charlie Becker. You lost Omar Cooper,
- 30:30Speaker 9: you lost the Loijas, Surratt lost both started running back.
- 30:32Speaker 9: You lost for Nanda Mendoza.
- 30:34Speaker 7: They are off.
- 30:35Speaker 9: I think is great, and I think they're going to
- 30:38Speaker 9: be ranked higher. But these polls are based on on paper.
- 30:41Speaker 7: You want if you want a national championship, and you
- 30:43Speaker 7: went sixteen and oh the year before, you return your
- 30:45Speaker 7: head coach, every single one of the coaching coaches on staff,
- 30:47Speaker 7: unlike Oregon who lost both their coordinators.
- 30:49Speaker 2: You turn everyone. I think Organ's too hot.
- 30:51Speaker 7: You return everyone to defensive line. You get seven Stefan
- 30:54Speaker 7: right or Ridley or whatever. Riley back this this week.
- 30:56Speaker 7: The kid with the NFL, I mean they are that's
- 31:00Speaker 7: I just think that you didn't lose enough on staff
- 31:04Speaker 7: and your roster to.
- 31:05Speaker 9: Be like, you know what, Like they state in Oregon,
- 31:09Speaker 9: Signetti is the ultimate like Trump card in that because
- 31:12Speaker 9: he did it with a lot less talent. But I'm
- 31:14Speaker 9: just saying, like on paper, if you're like, oh, who
- 31:16Speaker 9: lost a lot they did? Now, I think Josh Hoover
- 31:18Speaker 9: is actually pretty good. I think it was probably a
- 31:20Speaker 9: little bit better at TCU than most people gave Hi
- 31:22Speaker 9: credit for what he's gonna be good at Indiana. But
- 31:24Speaker 9: I mean, I guess I could see both sides of it.
- 31:26Speaker 7: I six teams.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Really two.
- 31:33Speaker 4: When s when you look at rankings and you look
- 31:35Speaker 4: at lists and you said they're way too low, does
- 31:38Speaker 4: that mean they're not they're underrated or overrated?
- 31:41Speaker 2: I think the low is a lower number, the lower
- 31:43Speaker 2: on the list.
- 31:45Speaker 8: Yeah, I think they're let's get to ten and then
- 31:47Speaker 8: let's take a break.
- 31:47Speaker 5: And come back.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Yeah I was.
- 31:48Speaker 4: I was actually just alright, seven Miami A and m
- 31:54Speaker 4: at eight way too high, which is wait, you know,
- 31:56Speaker 4: nine Oklahoma and ten Ole miss and uh before we
- 32:00Speaker 4: get a break, un and tell you about a friend
- 32:01Speaker 4: at Rouse's Ralse's dot com Ralse's Market, the local grocery
- 32:05Speaker 4: store started by local company right here, and I was
- 32:09Speaker 4: down there at their headquarters just a couple of months ago,
- 32:12Speaker 4: and man, they are impressive people. They care about their job,
- 32:15Speaker 4: they care about their community, and they care about providing
- 32:18Speaker 4: Louisiana and all of their stores with the best service,
- 32:21Speaker 4: the best products, and the best experience when you go
- 32:23Speaker 4: grocery shopping. And also you can go to Ralses dot
- 32:26Speaker 4: com and type in your zip code and check out
- 32:28Speaker 4: all the local deals, all the local specials running at
- 32:31Speaker 4: the at the Rous's markets nearest your house. So and
- 32:35Speaker 4: check it every single week too, because it's always changing.
- 32:37Speaker 4: You're gonna give little five percent off there, ten, fifteen,
- 32:40Speaker 4: twenty percent off on different products, and it changes weekly.
- 32:43Speaker 4: So make sure you're checking out Rals's dot com and
- 32:45Speaker 4: when you do your grocery shopping, whether you're stocking up
- 32:47Speaker 4: for the weekend. We're almost getting ready to tailgate as well.
- 32:49Speaker 4: It's almost tail getting seas and so make sure you're
- 32:51Speaker 4: doing it with the local company that is doing great
- 32:53Speaker 4: things in the community and providing that the best grocery.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Store experience right over there atrouss Rouses dot com.
- 32:58Speaker 4: Right we're going to go to break and we are
- 33:00Speaker 4: going to give a little context to the end of
- 33:03Speaker 4: that top ten, and also see where LSU is ranked
- 33:06Speaker 4: on the Coach's Top twenty five pole.
- 33:08Speaker 2: To stick with us right here and off the bench,
- 33:10Speaker 2: Off the.
- 33:11Speaker 3: Bench, locked in on LSU football twenty four to seven.
- 33:17Speaker 3: You're listening to off the bench.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Hi, welcome back here, off the bench.
- 33:42Speaker 4: Wednesday morning, training camp day UNSSU starts practice. They might
- 33:46Speaker 4: even be on the field right now, maybe doing some
- 33:48Speaker 4: walk news. If they're not, they're at least getting that
- 33:51Speaker 4: ankle taped. They're getting ready, getting stretched. Should have taped
- 33:55Speaker 4: the nerves, the butterflies, we should have.
- 33:57Speaker 8: Yeah, just in solidarity.
- 33:59Speaker 4: Yeah, you did just that. Yet you're having a good
- 34:01Speaker 4: ankle day, having a great ankle day. I love those days.
- 34:05Speaker 7: You don't have a lot of them, don't have a lot.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Gotta celebrate them when it happens.
- 34:09Speaker 7: You got to celebrate the winds.
- 34:10Speaker 2: Celebrate the winds.
- 34:12Speaker 10: I think it was like most kinkly Matt than me.
- 34:16Speaker 10: It was Matt, then me, then Jake, then Taylor.
- 34:22Speaker 7: Yeah, and the ankle bone is defined, thank you. Nothing
- 34:26Speaker 7: worse than not an ankle you look down just he
- 34:28Speaker 7: straight lined.
- 34:31Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 34:33Speaker 10: I felt real bad about myself because I think my
- 34:35Speaker 10: ankles were bigger than Tailor's.
- 34:37Speaker 8: My ankles are my cats.
- 34:38Speaker 5: I don't know which one it was.
- 34:43Speaker 4: Got ut.
- 34:48Speaker 9: They called him a sprinter legs, roll, long and skinny.
- 34:53Speaker 7: I would have thought, no, this is not a negative thing,
- 34:56Speaker 7: and just knowing he's gonna hear it and then he'd
- 34:59Speaker 7: be the most I would have thought that.
- 35:01Speaker 8: I mean, yeah, the thought process makes sense. Yeah, you
- 35:04Speaker 8: know what I mean.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Boat legging.
- 35:06Speaker 7: I don't know if he's bow lugging.
- 35:07Speaker 8: Oh yeah, he's bow legged for sure.
- 35:09Speaker 7: I think the fatter.
- 35:10Speaker 2: I get how he kept his knees off the ground
- 35:12Speaker 2: against Florida, the.
- 35:14Speaker 7: Leg saying you, I thought he.
- 35:17Speaker 5: Was down, brother, dude.
- 35:22Speaker 2: It can be it can be bad.
- 35:23Speaker 7: I will say this. I mean, Jake, you were down.
- 35:26Speaker 2: You didn't get it, you man.
- 35:28Speaker 7: I remember doing a show with him and Connor on
- 35:30Speaker 7: st S and he was talking about the last one
- 35:32Speaker 7: where he got in the end zone and they had
- 35:34Speaker 7: the camera right above him and he was just like
- 35:38Speaker 7: what he had taken some hits that game.
- 35:39Speaker 5: Yeah, but even taking hits, what are you taking?
- 35:46Speaker 8: Were you taking it like you're gonna swagway segwayeg?
- 35:51Speaker 7: I was finish off time hit on the top twenty five.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Okay, let's say let's get there, Let's let's finish this.
- 35:56Speaker 2: Let's finish this top ten. We'll at least get to
- 35:58Speaker 2: l s U.
- 35:59Speaker 4: We close out with the top ten, Bama at eleven,
- 36:02Speaker 4: Texas take at twelve, LSU all right, LSU fight, and
- 36:05Speaker 4: Tigers sit at thirteen. Of course, in the state of Louisiana. Here,
- 36:11Speaker 4: our listeners are probably gonna be like, are you kidding me?
- 36:13Speaker 2: That is underrated. Now there's the playoffs, just matt playoffs, well,
- 36:17Speaker 2: you know.
- 36:17Speaker 4: You know, Notre Dames in So I I'm looking at
- 36:22Speaker 4: this and if I had to, if I had to
- 36:24Speaker 4: go do this over, I'm gonna switch them in Bama
- 36:27Speaker 4: right now. Obama shouldn't be at a least way too high,
- 36:32Speaker 4: So I'm at least switching them. Am I putting them
- 36:33Speaker 4: top ten?
- 36:34Speaker 7: In my heart?
- 36:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm putting them at one.
- 36:36Speaker 4: Uh But I understand as far as voter and creating
- 36:40Speaker 4: this top ten list, and there's multiple there's there's two
- 36:42Speaker 4: different ways to do the top twenty five a preseason list.
- 36:46Speaker 4: You can either do it by how you think they
- 36:48Speaker 4: look on paper or what you think it's gonna finish.
- 36:51Speaker 2: At the end of the suit.
- 36:52Speaker 4: And I think most of these lists are a combination
- 36:55Speaker 4: of both of those. You can look at the Notre
- 36:58Speaker 4: Dame pick and be like, well, that's but based on
- 37:00Speaker 4: our schedule, that's where I think they're going to finish.
- 37:02Speaker 4: But then you can look at a Ohio state and
- 37:04Speaker 4: be like, that's number one, but I still think George
- 37:08Speaker 4: is gonna win the national championship or whatever.
- 37:09Speaker 7: Like.
- 37:10Speaker 2: But on paper, you're looking at what they're returning, who
- 37:13Speaker 2: they brought in all the same thing. That that's how
- 37:16Speaker 2: I go. You just take it how you.
- 37:18Speaker 7: Single group of sixteen in the top twenty five, we
- 37:22Speaker 7: know that's not going to play out that way for sure.
- 37:24Speaker 7: I mean again, I'm not trying to be like toot
- 37:27Speaker 7: my own horn here, but like the combination of SMU, Iowa, Houston,
- 37:34Speaker 7: MISSOO being in that like eighteen to twenty five range
- 37:38Speaker 7: just tail as old as time every year. I remember
- 37:41Speaker 7: when I made that that graphic, I was like, TC
- 37:43Speaker 7: or SMEU will be right here and I can't explain it,
- 37:45Speaker 7: but it's exactly right.
- 37:46Speaker 9: No, they'll they'll pick a they'll pick a team. They're like,
- 37:48Speaker 9: they're normally pretty good.
- 37:50Speaker 7: That's that's exactly what seventeen or eighteen, that's that's prime
- 37:53Speaker 7: for a team that's like you taught twenty one beautiful
- 37:56Speaker 7: rights always Yeah, missoo at twenty two to twenty five,
- 38:00Speaker 7: one thousand, so for what reason? We don't know? I
- 38:02Speaker 7: mean Clemson twenty three was I was shocked they were
- 38:04Speaker 7: top twenty five.
- 38:06Speaker 8: Yeah, I am too.
- 38:07Speaker 9: We talked about it the other day, Like they got Willhell,
- 38:09Speaker 9: who's a really good defensive end. They got Sammy Brown
- 38:12Speaker 9: at linebacker, but their offense, there's a lot of new
- 38:15Speaker 9: out there.
- 38:15Speaker 7: They got.
- 38:19Speaker 2: To that point.
- 38:19Speaker 4: There's three teams in the top twenty five that went
- 38:21Speaker 4: seven and six last year. It's Clemson, Penn State, and LSU.
- 38:24Speaker 4: Now we understand why LSU would be high there, right,
- 38:26Speaker 4: because it's a complete wholesale change.
- 38:28Speaker 2: Clemson is not, right, I said, And to.
- 38:31Speaker 9: Your point, how are you more of a wholesale change
- 38:33Speaker 9: than Clemson?
- 38:34Speaker 2: To exactly?
- 38:34Speaker 4: So three, seven and six, and I get it. They're
- 38:37Speaker 4: not being talked about a lot, so they're always last
- 38:39Speaker 4: year a team, a team or man.
- 38:41Speaker 2: With nothing to lose. It's very dangerous.
- 38:42Speaker 5: I got it.
- 38:43Speaker 4: But like seven and six last year and you didn't
- 38:47Speaker 4: make changange. You didn't change anything, So that to me
- 38:50Speaker 4: is a shot.
- 38:51Speaker 7: Seven and six. And you got a quarterback named Christopher.
- 38:57Speaker 9: Or Tate spelled T I T.
- 39:00Speaker 5: Don't love that.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Hey, it's one.
- 39:01Speaker 9: It's one letter away, Bud, it's T A I T.
- 39:04Speaker 7: Wow.
- 39:05Speaker 4: Not great look part in the middle. Mm hmm okay,
- 39:08Speaker 4: right where the body connects.
- 39:11Speaker 7: Mason jar.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Uh Texas A and m at eight.
- 39:19Speaker 9: Way too low. Four starters on the offensive line gone
- 39:22Speaker 9: replace both your coordinators also promoted from within if I'm
- 39:25Speaker 9: not mistaken as as your oc like, that's that's a
- 39:29Speaker 9: tough look. And like Marcel reid l.
- 39:31Speaker 2: S U killer.
- 39:33Speaker 5: Best player ever.
- 39:35Speaker 9: Go look at the ranked teams he played. Outside of that,
- 39:37Speaker 9: he's been good. He hasn't been at that level there.
- 39:39Speaker 9: There's been a little bit of inconsistency there. You lose
- 39:42Speaker 9: Casey conception, first round receiver, Mario Craver's back.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Come on, sure, guys, Uh.
- 39:49Speaker 9: Okay, Conceptsio to sound it out. Mario Craver back. Though
- 39:54Speaker 9: he's a good receiver. But I just they lost that.
- 39:57Speaker 9: I mean, four starters on your offensive lines off with
- 39:59Speaker 9: the coordinator.
- 40:00Speaker 4: Change uhlandre Swick Texas Tech at number twelve, Yeah, your
- 40:06Speaker 4: feelings on that, because you were big on Texas Tech.
- 40:08Speaker 8: Last Tech they got sores feed.
- 40:12Speaker 10: Their backup quarterback last season, who I assume is going
- 40:15Speaker 10: to be the quarterback now was actually pretty good Hammond. Yeah.
- 40:18Speaker 7: No, Will Hammond their backup last year?
- 40:21Speaker 10: He transferred out Hammond, he was heard so they had
- 40:24Speaker 10: to bring up yes because it was Baron Morton.
- 40:28Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 40:28Speaker 10: And then Morton went down and then Hammond went down,
- 40:31Speaker 10: so they had like the.
- 40:32Speaker 5: Third string guy transferred. Yeah.
- 40:35Speaker 8: I think twelve is a little crazy, considering.
- 40:38Speaker 9: Like it's a little too hot.
- 40:40Speaker 10: I haven't looked at their schedule yet, so I'm unsure
- 40:43Speaker 10: like if it's easy or hard or whatever. But given
- 40:46Speaker 10: all the drama that they've had this off season, losing
- 40:50Speaker 10: who they thought was going to be their starting quarterback,
- 40:52Speaker 10: I think is a little it feels a little.
- 40:54Speaker 7: Yes, they don't have a single team in the top
- 40:56Speaker 7: twenty five on their.
- 40:57Speaker 11: On their well they might actually think about how good
- 41:02Speaker 11: are they here go It feels like maybe I would
- 41:06Speaker 11: put them like not at twelve.
- 41:08Speaker 8: I think I'd have them in the top twenty five,
- 41:10Speaker 8: but not at twelve.
- 41:11Speaker 7: Like three linebackers that are like ring to the top
- 41:13Speaker 7: ten and pff on.
- 41:15Speaker 9: I mean that's fine, but dude, they're there, they're front
- 41:18Speaker 9: seven on defense. Was their strength leave honor, David Bailey,
- 41:21Speaker 9: Romelo height, Jacob Rodriguez all gone from that defense. I
- 41:25Speaker 9: understand those guys might be highly rated. That's a lot
- 41:27Speaker 9: of production the strength of your team. Gonna give them
- 41:29Speaker 9: a little respect to because of what they did do.
- 41:32Speaker 9: But that's can't be what the overall decision. That's on
- 41:34Speaker 9: the high side of the window. I would have set
- 41:36Speaker 9: a window between like twelve and eighteen would have been
- 41:38Speaker 9: fair on the high side of it. But yeah, we'll
- 41:40Speaker 9: see how they But begin big twelve kind of week. Yeah,
- 41:45Speaker 9: all right, we're gonna go break.
- 41:45Speaker 4: We're gonna finish out this this hour here on off
- 41:48Speaker 4: the bench, to stick with us, right here, off the.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Pitch, off the bench.
- 41:52Speaker 2: All right.
- 41:53Speaker 4: Have you been putting off updating that old bathtub or
- 41:56Speaker 4: shower because you think it's going to take weeks, maybe
- 41:58Speaker 4: it's gonna tear your house up, or maybe it's cost
- 42:01Speaker 4: a fortune.
- 42:02Speaker 2: I've got great news for you.
- 42:03Speaker 4: Louisiana Bathfitter is changing the way Louisiana remodels bathrooms. Bathfitter
- 42:08Speaker 4: creates custom made tubs, showers, and wall systems that are
- 42:11Speaker 4: built to fit your existing space with no major demolition.
