- 0:33Did you realise I did not know this, That today is the
- 0:36International Day of Biological Diversity?
- 0:39Did I get that right? Yes, biological diversity.
- 0:44Today is a day that people all around the world would be
- 0:46thinking, how can me and my life actually make a difference in
- 0:50preserving the incredible world that we live in, with all the
- 0:54different aspects of the biological makeup, which all hum
- 0:58and sing together in the most wonderful way and like magic,
- 1:02sustain each other in balance. And if you want to learn more,
- 1:06just do a little Internet search for the International Day of
- 1:09Biological Diversity and all these clever practical bits of
- 1:13advice come up if you're interested.
- 1:14Things like eat food that's grown locally, Learn more about
- 1:19the chemicals that we use in our daily life to know what they do
- 1:23to the world around us. Plan your next holiday to be a
- 1:26green holiday without a massive carbon footprint.
- 1:29Lots of things to consider as we work out how we can be good
- 1:33citizens of the world, how we can care for this incredible
- 1:36creation. Thank God has invited us to
- 1:39continue the ongoing work of creation and care.
- 1:44But all of that aside, today we will continue lessons for daily
- 1:49life. This next section is called.
- 1:51We will continue to sit down by this Father's side, by this
- 1:54teacher side, as he will share with us these little Nuggets of
- 1:59wisdom, the wisdom of Solomon kept for all of these millennia
- 2:05so that you and I can benefit from them.
- 2:08Let us read them together in Proverbs Chapter 6.
- 2:21My child, if you have put up security for a friend's debt or
- 2:26agreed to guarantee the debt of a stranger, if you have trapped
- 2:30yourself by your agreement and are caught by what you said,
- 2:33follow my advice and save yourself, for you have placed
- 2:37yourself at your friend's mercy. Now swallow your pride.
- 2:42Go and beg to have your name erased.
- 2:45Don't put it off. Do it now.
- 2:47Don't rest until you do. Save yourself like a gazelle
- 2:51escaping from a hunter, like a bird fleeing from a nest.
- 2:56Take a lesson from the ants, you lazy bones.
- 2:59Learn from their ways and become wise, though they have no Prince
- 3:03or governor or ruler to make them work a labour hard all
- 3:08summer, gathering food for the winter.
- 3:11But you lazy bones, how long will you sleep?
- 3:14When will you wake up a little extra sleep, a little more
- 3:18slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest?
- 3:22Then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit.
- 3:26Scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.
- 3:30What are worthless and wicked people like?
- 3:33They are constant liars, signalling their deceit with a
- 3:37wink of the eye, a nudge of the fortore, the wiggle of fingers.
- 3:42Their perverted hearts plot evil, and they constantly stir
- 3:46up trouble. But they will be destroyed,
- 3:49suddenly, broken in an instant beyond all hope of healing.
- 3:55There are six things the Lord hates, no, seven things he
- 3:58detests. Haughty eyes, a lying tongue.
- 4:03Hands that kill the innocent, A heart that plots evil, feet that
- 4:08race to do wrong. A false witness who pours out
- 4:11lies. A person who sows discord in a
- 4:14family. My son, obey your father's
- 4:18commands and don't neglect your mother's instruction.
- 4:22Keep their words always in your heart.
- 4:25Tie them around your neck when you walk there.
- 4:29Council will lead you when you sleep.
- 4:32They will protect you when you wake up.
- 4:34They will advise you for their command is a lamp and their
- 4:39instruction a light. Their corrective discipline is
- 4:43the way to life. It will keep you from the
- 4:47immoral woman, from the smooth tongue of a promiscuous woman.
- 4:51Don't last for her beauty. Don't let her coy glances seduce
- 4:56you, for a prostitute will bring you to poverty, but sleeping
- 5:01with another man's wife will cost you your life.
- 5:04Can a man scoop a flame into his lap and not have his clothes
- 5:08catch on fire? Can he walk on hot coals and not
- 5:12blister his feet? So it is with a man who sleeps
- 5:15with another man's wife. He who embraces her will not go
- 5:19unpunished. Excuses might be found for a
- 5:23thief who steals because he is starving, but if he is caught,
- 5:28he must pay back seven times what he stole, even if he has to
- 5:33sell everything in his house. But the man who commits adultery
- 5:37is an utter fool, for he destroys himself.
- 5:41He will be wounded and disgraced.
- 5:44His shame will never be erased, for the woman's jealous husband
- 5:48will be furious, and he will show no mercy when he takes
- 5:52revenge. He will accept no compensation,
- 5:55nor be satisfied with the payoff of any size.
- 6:10Lord, you are a forgiving God, and you meet us in our place of
- 6:15brokenness, where we struggle, struggle to live in the way that
- 6:21you have called us to live. But Lord, that does not mean
- 6:25that you want us just to follow our whims and then come to you
- 6:29for forgiveness. But you call us to a higher way.
- 6:34You call us to the way of fidelity to you, to your
- 6:39Kingdom. That doesn't put us in our
- 6:43desires, our urges and our needs at the apex of that pyramid of
- 6:48importance. But it puts your needs.
- 6:53In fact, it puts the needs of others.
- 6:55It puts the needs of the vulnerable, puts the needs of
- 6:58the hurting, the needs of the downtrodden above ours.
- 7:03Our Lord Jesus, soften our hearts.
- 7:06Holy Spirit, change us from the inside so that our hearts would
- 7:13desire to live lives of service and peace and discipline, to
- 7:21live lives In Sync with your Kingdom, because you always are
- 7:26best and your wisdom is worth pursuing.
- 7:30So we lay everything that we would otherwise hold dear.
- 7:34We lay it down at the foot of the cross, and we just thank you
- 7:39Jesus, for saving us from this way.
- 7:43We love you. We worship you alone, and we
- 7:46pray all of this in your holy name.
- 7:49Ah man.
