- 0:00Speaker 1: With Stu Gotts and Hawkman.
- 0:02Speaker 2: I got a direct message Stu Gotts. And there's always requests,
- 0:09Speaker 2: you know, a million requests for different show bits and
- 0:12Speaker 2: show memories. But this one, Stu Gotts is in Evanston
- 0:15Speaker 2: right now. One of his daughters goes to Northwestern. She's
- 0:18Speaker 2: a lacrosse player.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Yes, she plays lacrosse for Northwestern, which when she started
- 0:24Speaker 3: here it was the Alabama of women's lacrosse and now
- 0:27Speaker 3: just three or four years later, it's the Indiana of
- 0:30Speaker 3: women's lacrosse.
- 0:31Speaker 1: How about that?
- 0:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I would imagine Northwestern's got a good lacrosse program.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Huh.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Yes, dominant lacrosse program, perhaps the greatest, not perhaps the
- 0:40Speaker 3: greatest women's lacrosse program of all time.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Wow wow. And Evanston Northwestern.
- 0:45Speaker 2: I mean I would have gone to Northwestern probably if
- 0:48Speaker 2: I could have gotten in. That was the top communications school.
- 0:51Speaker 2: But I mean I couldn't even I wasn't even allowed
- 0:54Speaker 2: to look at the campus when I would drive by.
- 0:58Speaker 1: It's a beautiful, campustful city. You are not alone. There's
- 1:02Speaker 1: no way I'm getting into that school.
- 1:04Speaker 3: There's no way Rachel gets into that school without without lacrosse.
- 1:08Speaker 3: And so yeah, she was she was deciding between Syracuse
- 1:11Speaker 3: and Northwestern, and I'm like, great, really I was.
- 1:15Speaker 2: I also when I was I was going into broadcasting.
- 1:17Speaker 2: But I grew up in the North Shore, right near Evanston.
- 1:19Speaker 2: I was in Highland Park, and I was deciding between
- 1:23Speaker 2: Northwestern Syracuse, and I ended up at University of Miami
- 1:29Speaker 2: because Northwestern and Syracuse wanted nothing to.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Do with me.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Syracuse really, they have very good broadcast schools. I could
- 1:41Speaker 2: have gone to Syracuse, but not New House.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Oh.
- 1:43Speaker 2: The only reason I wanted to go to Syracuse was
- 1:45Speaker 2: for the new House Communications school.
- 1:48Speaker 1: And I didn't get in.
- 1:50Speaker 3: YEP, and Northwestern for Medill and you couldn't get into that.
- 1:52Speaker 3: And so you have my talents to South Beach, plopped
- 1:58Speaker 3: out at Pearson Hall, ordered some de pizza.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Had a velvet cream donut or two. Fast forward. However,
- 2:08Speaker 1: many years you're still here.
- 2:13Speaker 3: A couple of shifts at the local cut at the
- 2:15Speaker 3: college radio station.
- 2:16Speaker 2: You're not kidding, man, Thursday nights one am to four am.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Oh wow, that was my shift. Do you have tapes
- 2:22Speaker 1: of that? Oh? I do? Can we play one one day? Yeah?
- 2:25Speaker 2: If you can get together five hundred thousand dollars from listeners.
- 2:31Speaker 2: I will play for you not only my WVUM air checks.
- 2:35Speaker 2: I will play for you my first professional job in
- 2:39Speaker 2: Belglade WBGF, and I will play for you my stint
- 2:45Speaker 2: as a top forty DJ at Star ninety five point
- 2:47Speaker 2: five and all Hit ninety five point five WOVV. I mean,
- 2:52Speaker 2: but at that's a half million dollar price tag on
- 2:56Speaker 2: that crap.
- 2:57Speaker 3: So you're saying, if we could somehow raise from the audience,
- 3:00Speaker 3: me and the audience a half million dollars, we will
- 3:04Speaker 3: have access and your permission to play all three of
- 3:06Speaker 3: those with you here, right.
- 3:07Speaker 2: I think those are embarrassing, no doubt. The most embarrassing
- 3:13Speaker 2: tape I own videotape is this God Forsake. And I
- 3:19Speaker 2: have a friend of mine who's going through this right
- 3:21Speaker 2: now because he's get married. I got married nineteen ninety seven,
- 3:24Speaker 2: and you know, you'd hire a photographer a videographer back
- 3:27Speaker 2: then it was very different, you know, because they were
- 3:30Speaker 2: using tape and whatever. And he's like, oh, this is
- 3:33Speaker 2: gonna be before the wedding video. I bet you've done
- 3:36Speaker 2: this before the wedding video. This is just going to
- 3:39Speaker 2: be shots of you and Lori, my wife, walking on
- 3:43Speaker 2: the beach and swinging on a swing set like.
- 3:46Speaker 1: A back natural.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Yeah, And I'm in a fucking pair of slacks and
- 3:51Speaker 2: a button down shirt walking down the beach.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Who fuck wears that on a beach?
- 3:56Speaker 2: And I'm like, and now when I look back on it,
- 3:58Speaker 2: I'm like, who talked.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Me into this? This? This is like like, like, what
- 4:03Speaker 1: am I doing?
- 4:04Speaker 2: I'm on a tire swing in slacks and a button
- 4:09Speaker 2: down shirt like lovingly pushing Lorim like, oh hey, uh,
- 4:15Speaker 2: I know we're all we're I know we're dressed for temple.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Why don't we hit the park real quick? I'll push
- 4:21Speaker 2: you a couple times on the on the on the
- 4:23Speaker 2: wheel swing, the tire swing. I literally like, I get
- 4:28Speaker 2: the shivers if that videotape comes on one hundred thousand
- 4:36Speaker 2: dollars and I will I will watch that tape like
- 4:39Speaker 2: a rewatchable.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I will watch that with everyone.
- 4:42Speaker 2: We can go over frame by frame what's going through
- 4:45Speaker 2: my fucking heads as I because I literally am questioning
- 4:50Speaker 2: everything about my life because I'm I've got sand in
- 4:54Speaker 2: my pants.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I'm supposed to look happy.
- 4:59Speaker 3: That's so great, right, And they're telling you to act natural,
- 5:02Speaker 3: and yet that's the most unnatural thing.
- 5:04Speaker 1: The two of you will ever, you'll never do that right.
- 5:06Speaker 2: And then it's like, you know, they put this music
- 5:09Speaker 2: behind it and you're watching it, and so they're making
- 5:11Speaker 2: it look like it was natural.
- 5:13Speaker 1: But who am I fooling?
- 5:15Speaker 2: The only people watching it is me and Laurie, Like,
- 5:19Speaker 2: oh yeah, because now we've been married almost thirty years, Like,
- 5:23Speaker 2: oh yeah, I remember when we were single and we
- 5:26Speaker 2: used to do that.
- 5:26Speaker 1: We would get all dressed up and take a walk
- 5:29Speaker 1: to the park so I could push you on a swing.
- 5:32Speaker 1: What fire fuck? What was I talking about?
- 5:40Speaker 3: But the guy shooting it was just laughing all the
- 5:44Speaker 3: way to the banking.
- 5:45Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, there's probably like it's an extra thousand
- 5:48Speaker 2: dollars for a beach and tire push walk.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Oh okay, sign me up, shrink for the bitch entire
- 6:02Speaker 1: swing shots.
- 6:05Speaker 2: The fucking worst I think I have it. I'm one
- 6:10Speaker 2: hundred grand. The reason I think about that is because
- 6:14Speaker 2: I used to listen to Howard Stern and Gary Delabate.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Baba Booie had a video tape of him trying to
- 6:22Speaker 2: talk his old girlfriend back into dating him. I don't
- 6:25Speaker 2: know if you've if you're a big Stern fan, but
- 6:27Speaker 2: it was like, you know, right now, my personal life
- 6:30Speaker 2: is at like a non my professional life is at
- 6:32Speaker 2: like a nine.
- 6:33Speaker 1: He says, nine, very rare.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Yes, my professional life's at like a nine, but my
- 6:37Speaker 2: personal life's at like a two. And it's like it's
- 6:39Speaker 2: because you know, your personal life is at like a nine,
- 6:43Speaker 2: but your professional and it's just like it's like it
- 6:45Speaker 2: makes him cringe. And so Stern got a bunch of
- 6:48Speaker 2: listeners together to pay Baba Booie like one hundred thousand
- 6:52Speaker 2: dollars for a screening of the of the tape.
- 6:57Speaker 1: We do.
- 6:58Speaker 3: This'll go fund me because I want I want to
- 7:00Speaker 3: try to do this.
- 7:01Speaker 1: I think people pay to hear your radio shows and
- 7:03Speaker 1: watch that video.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll give you. I'll give you all my air
- 7:06Speaker 2: checks and the video. So what if they don't reach
- 7:09Speaker 2: one hundred grand?
- 7:10Speaker 1: What do you do?
- 7:10Speaker 3: Do you have to send it back? We just keep
- 7:12Speaker 3: it and we don't show them anything what happens there.
- 7:14Speaker 2: No, it's gonna be in a it's got to be
- 7:15Speaker 2: in a public situation. They're gonna and no cameras, no,
- 7:18Speaker 2: no cameras or phones are allowed. You get to you
- 7:21Speaker 2: get to join us somewhere and we all watch it together.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Why are you making it like a Derek Cheeter party
- 7:30Speaker 1: because no one's allowed to have any recollection.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Of it after you leave. You're not allowed to then
- 7:36Speaker 2: all of a sudden share the tape with the world.
- 7:38Speaker 1: You're one of the view that gets to see it.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Yeah, what were you talking about? So I get this
- 7:44Speaker 2: direct message on Instagram? You can DM anything you want
- 7:48Speaker 2: on this podcast with Stu gottson Hawkman to my Instagram.
- 7:52Speaker 2: It's radio Mark. Hawkman says, there was an episode where
- 7:55Speaker 2: you guys did a deep dive into ste Gott's lacrosse records.
- 7:58Speaker 2: He's bmos see claims big man on campus, and you
- 8:04Speaker 2: found out his teams were terrible yep.
- 8:07Speaker 1: And then you had a great.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Analogy about being the best English speaking broadcaster in your college.
- 8:12Speaker 2: And then we find out you went to school in
- 8:14Speaker 2: Guatemala or something.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I would love for you to relive this on the pod.
- 8:20Speaker 2: And I figured since Stugats was in Evanston today at
- 8:24Speaker 2: Northwestern and there for lacrosse reasons, we could we could
- 8:31Speaker 2: revisit this just for fun. So here's a clip from
- 8:35Speaker 2: the show. The jump off point for this. You remember
- 8:39Speaker 2: Matt Barkley was going to stay in college an extra year.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, I do remember.
- 8:43Speaker 2: So Dan brings that up and is curious, like, how
- 8:47Speaker 2: you pursue a conversation about Matt Barkley staying in college
- 8:52Speaker 2: or someone coming out of college. And here's where the
- 8:54Speaker 2: conversation goes.
- 8:56Speaker 4: Is it better to be this year Matt Park Ryan Mallett,
- 9:02Speaker 4: this year.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Matt Barkley, But eventually it will probably be better to
- 9:06Speaker 3: be Ryan Mallet at some point.
- 9:08Speaker 1: But no, I'm with you, it's better to be there.
- 9:10Speaker 4: I'm talking Matt Barkley wants to sign up for another
- 9:12Speaker 4: year being Matt Barkley instead of another year being of
- 9:14Speaker 4: being a Ryan Mallett.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Dan listen coming from someone who was the BMOC big
- 9:19Speaker 3: man on campus, and I was, that's a douche BMOC.
- 9:23Speaker 1: I mean I was.
- 9:24Speaker 3: I was big time at my university. Across was the
- 9:26Speaker 3: only physical sport we had. I was an All American BMOC.
- 9:30Speaker 5: Listen.
- 9:30Speaker 1: I'd pay a lot of money to have it back.
- 9:32Speaker 1: That acronym, I don't know.
- 9:34Speaker 5: How about how about the story?
- 9:36Speaker 1: Good about the acronym?
- 9:38Speaker 5: How about the story?
- 9:39Speaker 6: I mean, I just blew past that.
- 9:40Speaker 5: That's just unbelievable.
- 9:43Speaker 4: I mean Stecott says, uncommon delusion.
- 9:47Speaker 5: That's unbelievable. What college did you go to again?
- 9:50Speaker 1: Clark University?
- 9:51Speaker 7: If I called their athletic department right now and said,
- 9:54Speaker 7: can you tell us how to contact one of your
- 9:56Speaker 7: more successful graduates John Wiener, Yeah he would, they would have, Oh, yes, well,
- 10:02Speaker 7: well you.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Mean the guy's jersey, the up the mock.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Just refer to me as bem on that one.
- 10:10Speaker 5: Unbelievable.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Now you can hear I love that segment because you
- 10:15Speaker 2: can hear I mean Dan and I. Dan As talks about,
- 10:18Speaker 2: you know, buzzards starting to circle. Oh, we are buzzards
- 10:22Speaker 2: starting to circle right there because we're we're seeing something
- 10:26Speaker 2: is here and how is it going to play out?
- 10:30Speaker 2: And you can hear Mike, Ryan and Roy cracking up
- 10:32Speaker 2: in the background there. I just I like the dynamic
- 10:34Speaker 2: of that audio.
- 10:36Speaker 3: It's uh, it's funny because before you started working on
- 10:39Speaker 3: the show, I can get him past Dan, the commination
- 10:43Speaker 3: of you and Dan, it was impossible could get any
- 10:47Speaker 3: of this ship through.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Man. You guys were always ready to pounce, you know.
- 10:50Speaker 1: So now.
- 10:54Speaker 2: I think you're trying to get away from this a
- 10:56Speaker 2: little bit because you realize this is not going to
- 10:58Speaker 2: go well. But now I'm star and to do a
- 11:00Speaker 2: little research into your claims.
- 11:03Speaker 7: Yes, I went to the Clark University website and Stu
- 11:07Speaker 7: Gotts does indeed hold a couple.
- 11:10Speaker 5: Of lacrosse records.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Yes, so I was making this up.
- 11:12Speaker 5: Is that's the way he is on the web now.
- 11:14Speaker 3: The only reason I don't know all the records then,
- 11:16Speaker 3: is my senior year team player here, I'm a team player. Okay,
- 11:21Speaker 3: senior year, our goalie went down with an injury. I
- 11:24Speaker 3: had never played goalie before in my life.
- 11:28Speaker 1: I played goalie my senior year.
- 11:31Speaker 5: You are Magic Johnson filling in for Kareem.
- 11:34Speaker 3: For an entire year. Magic did it for a game.
- 11:36Speaker 3: I did it for an entire season. Okay, So had
- 11:39Speaker 3: I played my normal position, which was attacked that season,
- 11:42Speaker 3: I would have shattered every record and I would still
- 11:44Speaker 3: hold him to this day as it is. As Hawk
- 11:46Speaker 3: has pointed out and seen now with his own eyes,
- 11:48Speaker 3: I'm pretty high.
- 11:49Speaker 1: I'm pretty I'm pretty.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Close to being right at the top of all the list,
- 11:52Speaker 3: all the major categories, points, assists, goals, that just goals.
- 11:55Speaker 7: That was the only one I saw that's points to
- 11:58Speaker 7: You went to Kellogg where is that.
- 12:00Speaker 3: No, Honestly, I don't know Mark Clark University, Westers.
- 12:05Speaker 1: You see, why do we make that mistake? Clark Kellogg?
- 12:07Speaker 3: Of course, of course, of course BMOC at Clark University.
- 12:11Speaker 3: And then of course you know my graduate school at
- 12:13Speaker 3: CSP is also the BMOC.
- 12:14Speaker 4: There can I have a get school of broadcasting?
- 12:17Speaker 2: Yeah, Clark Kellogg, Now here's that. I wasn't even fucking
- 12:23Speaker 2: around there. I really thought you went to kelog.
- 12:28Speaker 1: See what's happening here is Stu Gott's is starting to
- 12:31Speaker 1: think that it's going his way.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Yeah, because I've been able to maintain that he was
- 12:37Speaker 2: not lying about a couple of the records.
- 12:39Speaker 1: So Stuc Gott starts to double down a little bit.
- 12:42Speaker 1: There you see, you see, you see. But now we
- 12:45Speaker 1: start to uncover a little bit more.
- 12:48Speaker 4: There's a texture keeps sending here because I just asked
- 12:51Speaker 4: you off air how good was the team? And you
- 12:53Speaker 4: said pretty good? Yes, there's a text here who keeps sending.
- 12:58Speaker 1: What the records were of.
- 13:00Speaker 4: Those teams that you were allegedly on? Yeah, go ahead,
- 13:04Speaker 4: were you Ozero and eleven when you were the keeper
- 13:07Speaker 4: for your lacrosse team that.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Was my senior year?
- 13:09Speaker 3: Yes, now understand I may the ultimate team sacrifice there.
- 13:13Speaker 3: I had never played goalie before in my life, and
- 13:16Speaker 3: I want to play goalie because our goalie got injured
- 13:18Speaker 3: and we went out on eleven. Yeah, I think it
- 13:20Speaker 3: was one in ten. Actually, I think we beat Bryant College.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Your name hanging for the Raptors that we're do.
- 13:28Speaker 4: So wait a minute, that makes me believe that the
- 13:30Speaker 4: other record he sent for your lacrosse team, and I
- 13:33Speaker 4: gotta find this here because it's buried here. But were
- 13:36Speaker 4: you sub five hundred is a team your entire career?
- 13:39Speaker 4: Big man on campus?
- 13:40Speaker 3: Well, I was the BMOC but my freshman year, I
- 13:43Speaker 3: think we were six and five.
- 13:45Speaker 1: I think we were six.
- 13:46Speaker 3: But I think the record that I got for you,
- 13:48Speaker 3: did you guys? I think it was like eight and
- 13:50Speaker 3: thirty four. No, we won more than eight games. I
- 13:52Speaker 3: hope we won more than eight games. I think we
- 13:54Speaker 3: won more in a We gotta look this up. You
- 13:57Speaker 3: gotta sprinkle the O and eleven in there. It doesn't help, No,
- 13:59Speaker 3: it doesn't an't health the man. But understand, I made
- 14:01Speaker 3: the ultimate sacrifice. There was Magic Johnson playing center in
- 14:05Speaker 3: the NBA Finals.
- 14:06Speaker 6: He did it for a game.
- 14:06Speaker 5: I did it for seasons the sacrifice. You were the
- 14:09Speaker 5: historically bad team.
- 14:11Speaker 3: You know what, let's do this after the show. Let's
- 14:12Speaker 3: put you in gold, okay, and let.
- 14:14Speaker 4: Me take one hundred mile per hour shots. I knew
- 14:17Speaker 4: what is God of defensiveness?
- 14:20Speaker 5: Even if you did that in a college game.
- 14:23Speaker 7: Yeah, my record at goalkeeper couldn't end up being worse
- 14:26Speaker 7: than yours.
- 14:28Speaker 3: All American, though honorable match All American as a sophomore.
- 14:30Speaker 1: I mean, let's let's go.
- 14:32Speaker 4: Look, Hawk didn't come out here start the show with.
- 14:34Speaker 4: I was the big man on campus.
- 14:37Speaker 6: I was huge.
- 14:38Speaker 1: I was great at lacrosse.
- 14:39Speaker 4: And when we were talking about your records, you you
- 14:41Speaker 4: really enjoyed talking about your records. But all of a sudden,
- 14:44Speaker 4: you don't want to talk about.
- 14:45Speaker 1: The team record. Ultimate team guy didn't mention that he.
- 14:48Speaker 3: Was all and eleven left that part out.
- 14:51Speaker 4: I don't you think that's a pretty important detail.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Now it's all a world win. At this point, my
- 15:02Speaker 1: hand in spinning. He's like, he's like, do I acquiesce?
- 15:07Speaker 1: Do I keep forging ahead?
- 15:09Speaker 2: You're in a no man's land here because we still
- 15:12Speaker 2: don't have any kind of Now, I'll give you a
- 15:15Speaker 2: little spoiler alert. We do beat him down here, like
- 15:17Speaker 2: we we get to the reality of it.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Spoiler alert. He wasn't six and five.
- 15:23Speaker 2: He never had a winning record in his collegiate my
- 15:26Speaker 2: freshman year.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Still I still maintained that I did. I mean a
- 15:32Speaker 1: great team. It was me and Mike Maltese, Pete Sutzman.
- 15:35Speaker 1: I mean a fantastic team. Here's here's here's another clip.
- 15:39Speaker 1: As things start to fall apart for you, this.
- 15:42Speaker 4: Guy's writing in that you were eight and thirty four
- 15:45Speaker 4: as a lacrosse player, that you were all in eleven,
- 15:47Speaker 4: you're last year and one in ten.
- 15:49Speaker 3: The year before your last year, Da Marino never won
- 15:51Speaker 3: it all Still great, God were you in there? Were
- 15:56Speaker 3: you indeed eight and thirty four? I don't know the records.
- 16:00Speaker 3: I only know I don't know the team records. I
- 16:02Speaker 3: know the individual records, and I hold.
- 16:03Speaker 1: All of them.
- 16:04Speaker 3: As you've seen on the Clark University website.
- 16:06Speaker 1: We have validated it.
- 16:07Speaker 3: At least give you that, yes, yeah, I played goalie year.
- 16:11Speaker 1: I will give you that.
- 16:12Speaker 4: You've been bragging about that for close to a decade.
- 16:16Speaker 1: What you've left out.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Is that your team, someone had to get the numbers,
- 16:22Speaker 3: was apparently filled with disabled people.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it was.
- 16:28Speaker 5: I have to see it.
- 16:30Speaker 7: I have to see a team picture because I have
- 16:32Speaker 7: a feeling it's.
- 16:33Speaker 5: Gonna look like a telethon.
- 16:34Speaker 4: I mean it will, it will. You're right, you're gonna
- 16:36Speaker 4: be missing. You're gonna look like that or a reunion
- 16:39Speaker 4: of mind sweeper twenty five honks.
- 16:43Speaker 5: I mean, come on, it's a good team.
- 16:47Speaker 1: It's a good team.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Well, no, it couldn't have been a good freshman year.
- 16:50Speaker 3: The year we had Mike Maltese, Kyle Turner, all these
- 16:53Speaker 3: guys in the top five and career scoring.
- 16:54Speaker 1: That was our back. It wasn't a good team.
- 16:57Speaker 4: You can't say a team that was a career record.
- 16:59Speaker 1: The senior your team wasn't very much.
- 17:01Speaker 7: Well, it sounds like junior and senior year your combined
- 17:03Speaker 7: record was like one in twenty one.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Something like that.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I was a luter in a riot.
- 17:12Speaker 2: It's fallowing, Amart, it's falling apart. Here your daughters about
- 17:18Speaker 2: your lacrosse career.
- 17:19Speaker 3: Listen, most people in life, you just tell them a
- 17:22Speaker 3: thing about lacrosse.
- 17:23Speaker 1: They believe it. They move on with their days. But
- 17:26Speaker 1: in our lives, lives, that doesn't fucking fly. Okay, if
- 17:31Speaker 1: I just walked out and I met you at Starbucks
- 17:34Speaker 1: for an espresso and a couple of cameos. I was like, hey, Huck,
- 17:38Speaker 1: I was a great lacrosse player. You wouldn't think twice
- 17:41Speaker 1: of it.
- 17:41Speaker 3: But in that environment, everything is looked up and everything
- 17:44Speaker 3: is challenged in hindsight.
- 17:46Speaker 6: Your senior year, do you wish you just kind of
- 17:48Speaker 6: stayed out of tack?
- 17:49Speaker 3: Yes? Yes, yeah, I mean, but I had to make
- 17:52Speaker 3: the ultimate sacrifice, because that's what a team player does.
- 17:55Speaker 1: You know.
- 17:55Speaker 2: I love that he's got it in stock lines, ready
- 17:57Speaker 2: to go, He's ready for a third, for thirty at
- 18:00Speaker 2: any moment. He's got his I mean, Marino never won
- 18:04Speaker 2: a Super Bowl. He was the ultimate team player guy.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Perhaps it was.
- 18:12Speaker 3: A terrible strategy to have your best offensive player be
- 18:15Speaker 3: the backup goalie.
- 18:16Speaker 2: I mean, I believe this next clip is where it
- 18:19Speaker 2: just officially becomes classified as a lie.
- 18:24Speaker 4: I'm not kidding you, Hawk when I say to you
- 18:26Speaker 4: that before this Texter unearthed.
- 18:30Speaker 1: This library of lie.
- 18:35Speaker 3: WOA.
- 18:35Speaker 4: Let me finish what I was saying off air. I
- 18:38Speaker 4: asked you, just flippingly, just making conversation, how was the
- 18:43Speaker 4: team pretty good?
- 18:45Speaker 1: And you said pretty might God that is what he said. Here,
- 18:49Speaker 1: I said pretty good, live is pretty good.
- 18:52Speaker 4: That's what he said. But why are you only remembering
- 18:56Speaker 4: the one winning season allegedly because I don't have any
- 18:58Speaker 4: proof that it was a winning season freshman year six
- 19:00Speaker 4: and five maybe five five because compared to own eleven
- 19:04Speaker 4: to an eight field like.
- 19:07Speaker 7: Some fore fits for teams that just didn't have enough flair.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Just putting the other three years out of my mind,
- 19:13Speaker 3: that text with Hawk and that texters and holiday gifts,
- 19:16Speaker 3: because he poured through the Clark record to reveal basically
- 19:21Speaker 3: who is he.
- 19:21Speaker 4: He's some up sports great liars georgia' leary with the
- 19:25Speaker 4: lie on.
- 19:25Speaker 1: The resume at Notre Dame. I never lied about that.
- 19:28Speaker 1: He's the same guy who's so.
- 19:30Speaker 4: Nick Saban, Nick Saban, he killed you did well.
- 19:34Speaker 1: You know what?
- 19:35Speaker 7: In all honesty he other than him saying flippantly that
- 19:38Speaker 7: they were pretty good, which.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Was off air.
- 19:40Speaker 5: He didn't lie, but he never has painted.
- 19:42Speaker 7: Apparently the complete fixture.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Will validate my individual complies. Yeah, but if you have
- 19:47Speaker 1: me a colleenss fan for years.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Okay, but the validator right, like we finally have some
- 19:52Speaker 3: validation on it.
- 19:53Speaker 8: Right, Oh, because that would be like me saying, by
- 19:55Speaker 8: the way, in ninety six to ninety eight, I was
- 19:58Speaker 8: the single greatest Englishish language broadcaster in the history of
- 20:02Speaker 8: my school. And then you find out that I went
- 20:04Speaker 8: to school in Guadalajara and that was the only guy
- 20:07Speaker 8: that spoke English.
- 20:10Speaker 3: We were four, We were four and six, that freshman,
- 20:14Speaker 3: that glorious freshman year.
- 20:16Speaker 4: Four and which which which in hindsight you remember six
- 20:20Speaker 4: and five?
- 20:20Speaker 1: Some of that? Now, now here's where I'm gonna go do.
- 20:23Speaker 1: So your big season was for the Ringing Tribute. If
- 20:26Speaker 1: we were doing Into.
- 20:27Speaker 4: The Fire for the students lacrosse career, the season we'd
- 20:31Speaker 4: be doing the documentary on is the four and sixth year,
- 20:34Speaker 4: four and six year.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Now we were four and six freshman year under head
- 20:37Speaker 3: coach John Stevens, who who I think I know until
- 20:40Speaker 3: this day he's coaching at BAPSID.
- 20:41Speaker 4: So I don't believe anything coming out of her sad details.
- 20:45Speaker 1: You lobb at me. The next three years combined, we
- 20:48Speaker 1: had four wins, didn't then?
- 20:53Speaker 3: Well for you, No, that had to be an inside
- 20:56Speaker 3: job the Texter, right, I mean it was someone as
- 20:59Speaker 3: someone who played with me.
- 21:00Speaker 1: It was Tom Hicks, Alan Good.
- 21:03Speaker 3: It had you know Brad Perry, and I mean it
- 21:06Speaker 3: had to be one of those who.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Was jealous of your skills.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Here's the final clip, as we put an end to
- 21:15Speaker 2: Stu Gotts's claims of being big man on campus and
- 21:18Speaker 2: lacrosse star at Clark Kellogg.
- 21:21Speaker 1: This is where it all just unravels.
- 21:25Speaker 7: Do you want to redefine your your lacrosse career at all?
- 21:28Speaker 1: No?
- 21:28Speaker 4: No, No, text was Hight he was eight and thirty four.
- 21:32Speaker 3: No, not at all, Hawk, because I was top ten
- 21:34Speaker 3: in the country and scoring.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Born six three and seven. I was an.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Honorable mention All American my sophomore year when I was
- 21:39Speaker 3: a team player, and eleven that year and on top ten.
- 21:43Speaker 3: As you've seen now Hawk, I have top ten in
- 21:45Speaker 3: the school. It's scoring points and goals. I'm pretty proud
- 21:49Speaker 3: of that.
- 21:50Speaker 8: It probably sounds like you like it literally sounds like
- 21:53Speaker 8: you were the only abled body person.
- 21:55Speaker 4: In eleptil I do, I really do picture a guy
- 21:58Speaker 4: with leprosy on the team.
- 22:00Speaker 1: A handful of little people.
- 22:02Speaker 2: You can't play this weekend his arm fellow.
- 22:04Speaker 1: The school is locurdon blue, like the team ed.
- 22:08Speaker 4: Do you realize how great a team victured it is?
- 22:10Speaker 4: It's two Gods as the monster athlete in five nine.
- 22:15Speaker 1: There's definitely a guy in a wheelchair. You know, there's
- 22:17Speaker 1: a guy with a peg leg.
- 22:19Speaker 7: There's people staring every which way, but at the camera.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I've been exposed.
- 22:27Speaker 4: He told someone like the team is riddled with learning disability.
- 22:32Speaker 1: That's not by the way, God. Also the scholar on
- 22:39Speaker 1: that team.
- 22:42Speaker 6: This is the same university that.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Gave him an English degree. A communication.
- 22:46Speaker 5: Anybody that needed a device you would.
- 22:48Speaker 6: Go to Steer.
- 22:55Speaker 4: To value everything that's ever happened at Lark University.
- 23:01Speaker 1: I can't believe the piece of investigative work done, h man.
- 23:06Speaker 4: You know in that team picture, there's a guy with
- 23:08Speaker 4: a full body cast.
- 23:15Speaker 1: One of the guys has his arm and his glinten.
- 23:18Speaker 1: It's all the way.
- 23:19Speaker 9: To his right totally sorry, ham and blend his body
- 23:25Speaker 9: and this is totally parallel to the ground in perpendicular
- 23:27Speaker 9: to his body.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Perhaps I loved.
- 23:33Speaker 5: Some I picture one of the guys wearing one of
- 23:40Speaker 5: those one of those head things that.
- 23:42Speaker 7: Dog wears to prevent from biting himself.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Everyone on the team is going to neck breaks anyway.
- 23:56Speaker 2: That was the That was the request from one of
- 23:59Speaker 2: the listeners to this podcast. You knew at the beginning
- 24:03Speaker 2: of it it was going to end with you yelling
- 24:06Speaker 2: out I've been exposed.
- 24:10Speaker 3: I mean, eventually you just gotta came in and laugh
- 24:15Speaker 3: at yourself and have fun because the beatdown is just
- 24:18Speaker 3: too much to take. I mean, but listen, hawk I
- 24:20Speaker 3: was the first guy off the bus. I was the
- 24:22Speaker 3: last guy to leave. I was a team player. I mean,
- 24:25Speaker 3: those are the things I did for Clark University. I'm
- 24:28Speaker 3: certain if you go there right now to the Clark
- 24:29Speaker 3: University website, I still hold many of the records.
- 24:33Speaker 2: I do he is doubling down in the year two
- 24:36Speaker 2: thy and twenty six, he is doubling down. I do
- 24:41Speaker 2: like that your biggest accolade now continues to be I
- 24:45Speaker 2: was at the ultimate team player first off the bus.
- 24:48Speaker 1: I mean, oh my god.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Anyway, if you want to hear something on the podcast radio,
- 24:56Speaker 2: mark Hawkman on Instagram and we will we'll get to it.
- 25:00Speaker 1: If you want a.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Cameo from me and Stu Gotts, we were at Meisner
- 25:03Speaker 2: Park this week recording cameo this week.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Last week I thought.
- 25:08Speaker 3: We had an emergency cameo. Tod do you were on
- 25:11Speaker 3: the road somewhere did I had to.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Reach out to the guy because I was in Tampa
- 25:15Speaker 2: and you were out of town and we weren't gonna
- 25:16Speaker 2: be able to get together. So I had to reach
- 25:18Speaker 2: out to him and tell him to rebook it because
- 25:20Speaker 2: he had done a twenty four hour cameo and I
- 25:23Speaker 2: was stuck on an Amtrak train. I don't even want
- 25:25Speaker 2: to get into the story, but I was stuck on
- 25:27Speaker 2: an Amtrak train in the middle of nowhere, no power
- 25:30Speaker 2: on the train, and just sat there baking in.
- 25:33Speaker 1: The sun for four hours.
- 25:35Speaker 2: What But that's a story for another time. Okay, if
- 25:38Speaker 2: you'd like a cameo, go to Cameo look for Mark
- 25:41Speaker 2: Hauckman and Stu Gotts and I we'll do one for you.
- 25:45Speaker 2: I did get a text during our recording here from
- 25:50Speaker 2: Buddha at dec. Eighty four and Burt Max's yeah, said
- 25:54Speaker 2: did you like Do you like the Hurricanes today agency tournament?
- 25:59Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 25:59Speaker 2: Because I don't have to work, said, I don't know
- 26:06Speaker 2: if you want to take gambling advice from me. I
- 26:08Speaker 2: was all over Myron Gardner the night Bam scored eighty three.
- 26:21Speaker 1: I wanted it to end right there, but I know
- 26:22Speaker 1: I have to do three nicknames. You got to do
- 26:24Speaker 1: three nicknames.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Burton max Is, by the way, is a fantastic restaurant
- 26:29Speaker 2: in West.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Delray Beach and Buddha runs the place.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Deck eighty four is a fantastic restaurant on Atlantic Avenue
- 26:37Speaker 2: in Delray Beach, right by the intra Coastal. If you're
- 26:40Speaker 2: looking good.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Fish dip, there's a fantastic yeah uh hawk. Just quickly
- 26:44Speaker 1: on the lacrosse stuff.
- 26:45Speaker 3: The point I was making about John Stevens and him
- 26:47Speaker 3: leaving after my freshman year.
- 26:49Speaker 1: We had four wins that year.
- 26:50Speaker 3: He was a good coach and they recruited me and
- 26:52Speaker 3: I was one of the top recruits in the country,
- 26:55Speaker 3: and we were headed in the right direction. And then
- 26:57Speaker 3: this guy Stevens who recruits me to Clark Universe City,
- 27:00Speaker 3: he leaves and goes to babs It and the guy
- 27:03Speaker 3: that replaced him, Jim Cantrill, was a complete Zett.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Four and twenty eight, four and twenty eight career record.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Stevens was eight and eleven and we lost him. He
- 27:14Speaker 3: was like the Jimmy Johnson of Clark University men's lacrosse.
- 27:17Speaker 6: I mean, would have been different in today's college sports.
- 27:20Speaker 6: You could have went to Babson with him in the portal.
- 27:22Speaker 1: I know, true.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Yeah, we were at a little too a little too
- 27:27Speaker 2: far away from that.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Yeah, but Bapson was a little too good. I liked
- 27:30Speaker 1: it at Clark where I was the BMOC.
- 27:32Speaker 2: You know you still believe in twenty twenty six that
- 27:36Speaker 2: your name is in some of the Clark record books
- 27:40Speaker 2: for lacrosse.
- 27:40Speaker 1: I did, I did somewhere there. But I gotta tell
- 27:43Speaker 1: you this, John Toto had a career. I mean.
- 27:49Speaker 2: He never end the with Stu Gotson Hawkman podcast until
- 27:54Speaker 2: the big Man on Campus can name three athlete nicknames? Yeah,
- 28:00Speaker 2: Reggie Jackson, mister October very good, Kenny Stabler the Snake.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Do I go really difficult here? Or do I punctuate
- 28:15Speaker 2: what has been a fun episode?
- 28:18Speaker 1: Oh good? How about you really digging deep here? Huh?
- 28:26Speaker 2: Because I don't know if I want to continue? And
- 28:29Speaker 2: uh oh? How about uh? Adam Jones Adam Jones, Adam Jones.
- 28:41Speaker 2: You probably never have heard him as Adam Jones before.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Like there's an Aaron Jones.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Who is Adam Jones the baseball player, no football player,
- 28:51Speaker 3: Adam Jones.
- 28:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna say jonesy.
- 28:56Speaker 6: You know him by you know him by his nicknames?
- 28:58Speaker 1: You only know him by his name name.
- 29:00Speaker 3: So this is the rare one where if he gave
- 29:01Speaker 3: me the nickname, I would then get his real name.
- 29:04Speaker 1: I don't think you would.
- 29:05Speaker 6: Think legal troubles, think video games.
- 29:11Speaker 2: Yeah, pac Man Jones can't. Oh my god, I have
- 29:14Speaker 2: to start over. I'm gonna have to start over.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Oh my what he's on the show all the time,
- 29:20Speaker 1: pac Man Jones, you never knew was Adam Jones.
- 29:23Speaker 2: But if you hear just the name Adam Jones, no
- 29:25Speaker 2: one would make that correlation.
- 29:26Speaker 1: No one, right.
- 29:27Speaker 6: I thought you meant the Oriole too.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:30Speaker 10: Yeah, Tim Duncan, big fundamental, very good, Bryant Reeves, big country,
- 29:39Speaker 10: Darryl Johnston.
- 29:42Speaker 1: Most We'll see you on the next episode with Stu
- 29:47Speaker 1: Gotts and Hawkman
