- 0:17SPEAKER_01: It's about the moments that shift everything.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: The seasons you didn't see coming.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: And how we keep showing up anyway.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: And if something here resonates with you, follow our show.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: Share it with someone who might need it.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Or send us a message.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: Because the truth is, we didn't plan for this.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: But we're here.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: Hi, this is Adrian.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: Welcome to another episode of We Didn't Plan for This, a special series from how yoga changed my life.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Today's guest is Amber, a professional stylist who thought she was walking into another normal workday.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: Instead, she discovered that one of the salon owners had emptied the business accounts and disappeared, leaving employees without answers or pay and wondering what came next.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: In an industry where your clients are your livelihood, but your workplace can disappear overnight.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: And we're so glad that she's here to share her story with us.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much for coming.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: I just got like full body chills just talking about your introduction and kind of that that uh moment of what the fuck.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: Like literally much what the fuck.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: Like what the fuck happened.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Let's give us a look about you.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: I know you because I've known you most of my life.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: But the rest of the listeners don't know who you are.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Can you tell everybody kind of you know where you came from?
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: A little bit about you.
- 1:47SPEAKER_03: So I'm originally from San Antonio.
- 1:49SPEAKER_03: I live out in Bandera now.
- 1:51SPEAKER_03: I have uh two boys who are now adults, and I've been doing hair for about 25 years.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Amazing.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: How old are your boys?
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: 19 and 21.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: Are they still in San Antonio?
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: Um, one of them is in San Antonio.
- 2:04SPEAKER_03: He lives with his father, and the other one's about to go off to the Air Force.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: Are you nervous?
- 2:10SPEAKER_03: Yes, because he chose uh special warfare.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: So it yeah what does that mean?
- 2:17SPEAKER_03: Um dangerous situations that you have to pull people out and rescue.
- 2:22SPEAKER_03: He wants to do pararescue.
- 2:24SPEAKER_03: So he's gonna be Denny but jumping out of planes.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: Holy shit.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: That's amazing.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: What a big, I mean, that takes a lot of a lot of like strength, not just physically, obviously, but like emotionally and mentally to be able to put himself in those kind of situations.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Well, way to go, mom.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: It's impressive.
- 2:44SPEAKER_03: I'm so unsure about how impressed I am about that.
- 2:48SPEAKER_03: I guess we'll see how it's going, right?
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: No, I think it's fantastic.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: So you've been doing hair for about 25 years in San Antonio.
- 2:56SPEAKER_03: Well, I was originally in Stone Oak.
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: That's where I lived.
- 3:02SPEAKER_03: Um it one day it just got bought out by Supercuts.
- 3:05SPEAKER_03: So we said they said you can come in and get paid Supercut pay or you're fired.
- 3:11SPEAKER_03: So I went to another salon in Stone Oak and they didn't pay us either.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: They kept the money and I didn't know it, but I sponsored his mother's funeral.
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: Wait, what?
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 3:24SPEAKER_03: How is this legal?
- 3:25SPEAKER_03: It's not.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: So basically, when you're a stylist, um, you get cashed out daily with your credit card thing.
- 3:33SPEAKER_03: So they're spending the money in the account because they think it's there to spend, and that's not what it is.
- 3:40SPEAKER_03: It's called really bad business practice.
- 3:42SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 3:42SPEAKER_03: It's like spending that hundred dollars four different ways.
- 3:45SPEAKER_03: Correct.
- 3:46SPEAKER_03: And then by the time it's time for payday, there's no money left.
- 3:48SPEAKER_03: So they're waiting for the weekend funds to come in.
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: So I left them, and when I applied for this job, I let them know why I was leaving and that I'm not putting up with that shit.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: And I hoped that this was a better environment, and that's what they promised me.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: So take us to that day.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: How long were you there?
- 4:09SPEAKER_03: I worked there for about five years.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: Um you were there for a while?
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: Did you was there a high turnover rate?
- 4:15SPEAKER_03: There was an extremely high turnover rate, and um, the husband was always really weird.
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: I'm very good judge of character.
- 4:23SPEAKER_03: So it was a husband and a wife that owned the place?
- 4:24SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 4:25SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 4:25SPEAKER_03: And he always gave me like the creeps, like something was always just not right.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: Like, give me an example.
- 4:32SPEAKER_03: Um, like he had an office a couple doors down, and he would just sit in there with the door locked all the time.
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: And I really thought he was, you know, busting out his banana.
- 4:44SPEAKER_03: I don't know what he was doing, but that was the feeling that I was getting.
- 4:48SPEAKER_03: Because you would knock on the door and that would be like the creepy.
- 4:50SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, you know.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, so he'd have like that anxious.
- 4:54SPEAKER_03: It was just creepy.
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:55SPEAKER_03: So I wouldn't let any of the girls go over there by themselves.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: I would have just thought he was sleeping.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: That's how that's how nice.
- 5:01SPEAKER_03: No, if you met him as you know if you are Adrian.
- 5:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, love you.
- 5:04SPEAKER_03: If you met him, you would know something ain't right.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: Oh God.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: So intuitively.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: So he was there.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: Was he there more than the wife or vice versa?
- 5:12SPEAKER_03: So she was always in the salon and he was always two doors down in his business, which was a photography business, which also got scammed and ended up on the news.
- 5:22SPEAKER_03: But we'll get there in a little bit.
- 5:24SPEAKER_03: We'll get there.
- 5:24SPEAKER_03: But no, um, the spouse is uh also a stylist.
- 5:27SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 5:28SPEAKER_03: Okay, yes, okay.
- 5:29SPEAKER_03: So it wasn't like worked with us every day.
- 5:31SPEAKER_03: She was there present.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: And was this the first business that they've opened together?
- 5:34SPEAKER_03: Do you know of?
- 5:35SPEAKER_03: No, he had been owning businesses and changing LLCs.
- 5:42SPEAKER_03: Later on, I found out the whole time.
- 5:44SPEAKER_03: I I'm telling you, when I did a deep dive, Nancy Drew ain't got nothing on.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: I'm telling you.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: Hey, can I ask how old you are?
- 5:52SPEAKER_03: I am gonna be 44.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: Okay, so she's in our generation.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: I'm 51, Nora's about to be 47.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: So we grew up in a time where it was like, I don't know, we didn't have the internet.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: We had to figure out who is going behind her back and talking shit at school.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: Or where did she get that?
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: Or what happened with that dude?
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: Or did they really hook up?
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Like we had to be super slew.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: So I think we really did.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: And I think now that the internet's here, I'm I'm like, bring it, bring it, let me find it.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: So you did a deep dive and found out a lot more than you intended to do.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 6:25SPEAKER_03: And what happened probably six months before that happened was is we moved buildings and they told us it was because there was a mold infestation and we had to get out.
- 6:35SPEAKER_03: So we moved, we redid a whole other salon.
- 6:38SPEAKER_03: I'm talking like painting, moving all of our equipment and everything.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: And you had to do that.
- 6:43SPEAKER_03: All the employees did it because it was like overnight, but we didn't really think anything of it.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: We just thought Did you get paid for it?
- 6:50SPEAKER_03: I mean, mold is a plausible excuse.
- 6:52SPEAKER_03: Correct.
- 6:53SPEAKER_03: Yes, very good.
- 6:53SPEAKER_03: And I did see the mold because I am like, I'm gonna fuck around and find out kind of girl.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: So either let me see it or one of one of the worst germophobes I've ever known in my life.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: I'm a germaphobe and she her shit is clean.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: So I heard mold.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: Clean unclean or clean.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 7:09SPEAKER_03: So uh uh I got a pry bar from my toolbox the next day.
- 7:14SPEAKER_03: I came in and I pried up underneath the sink, and there was mold all underneath the sink.
- 7:19SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 7:20SPEAKER_03: So I'm a story story, right?
- 7:22SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: All right, girls, let's rally the troops.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: But rally the troops, did they pay you for the move?
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: Did they pay you to help them move?
- 7:31SPEAKER_03: Like if you're No, it was kind of like thieves in the night, but at the moment we didn't think right of it like that.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: You thought mold, we're moving.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we've got clients and we need to hustle.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: Correct, because I don't get paid.
- 7:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:44SPEAKER_03: So um, you know, yes, my kids are adults.
- 7:48SPEAKER_03: Yes, I still help support some of the things that they do, but I also have my own house, my own vehicles, my own property.
- 7:55SPEAKER_03: You have your life.
- 7:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: It's your life, and you have a career and I have nobody else to call.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: I feel you.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: I feel you.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: Uh that your industry is very similar to ours, you know, in that um if you don't, if you don't see clients, you don't get paid.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: Correct.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: It's completely 100% commission.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: So yeah, they had they had to do what they had to do to be able to open the shop back up.
- 8:18SPEAKER_03: And I'm been doing it so long, like I've been booked out.
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: So um I already had my people the next day.
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: So I was like, well, how long is it gonna take?
- 8:25SPEAKER_03: Where can I fit them in?
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: I mean, it was already like, oh shit.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: What the fuck am I gonna do tomorrow?
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: So so we worked that week all the way till Saturday at five, closed the shop, went to the other shop, had all the movers come and started work there Monday morning.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 8:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 8:47SPEAKER_03: And going after night, painting, and everything for that whole week or two.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: So I know from my stylist that, well, I don't know about her, but I know through style hairstylists or any kind of like spa salon, do you rent your chair or do you work?
- 9:03SPEAKER_03: This one's completely a hundred percent commission and they have levels and you get a higher percentage, your chart your prices go up higher the higher you go.
- 9:12SPEAKER_03: Exactly like us.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: Okay, it's exactly the way we get it.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: So they get a percentage of whatever you charge your clients.
- 9:18SPEAKER_03: And um, you know, when I stepped back and looked at it, I was not sure why they were having money problems when I alone was enough to cover all the bills.
- 9:34SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 9:35SPEAKER_03: So when we moved, I thought we were moving for a bigger space, which it was.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:40SPEAKER_03: So I thought it was for the growth of us because I was so busy, I had an assistant.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: I mean Yeah, that's great.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: That's great.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: So then you move in, you start work on Monday, taking clients you're working at night trying to paint and make it flashy and pretty.
- 9:55SPEAKER_03: And also I'm planning a huge grand opening because they'd been in that location 10 years and I wanted the clients to know where we moved.
- 10:01SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 10:02SPEAKER_03: Because how else are they gonna know?
- 10:04SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 10:04SPEAKER_03: So I was planning a huge grand opening in the middle of all of this, and it turns out we only stayed there six months till the ball really dropped.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: Did they help you with the grand opening party?
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: Um, so I had gotten a lot of people to donate gifts.
- 10:21SPEAKER_03: That's awesome.
- 10:22SPEAKER_03: I had um the husband had like a DJ set, so we just kind of ran that.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: Um, we were giving out free raffles all day long.
- 10:32SPEAKER_03: So a lot of it was donated.
- 10:33SPEAKER_03: It was just my time to organize that many vendors.
- 10:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 10:36SPEAKER_03: And actually on top of working full time and taking care of my house.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and your kids and everything.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:40SPEAKER_03: I mean, and a whole ass life.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: I think that that's one thing that people don't understand is that when you are 100% commission, every hour that you're not working, you're not getting paid.
- 10:52SPEAKER_03: Correct.
- 10:53SPEAKER_03: Correct.
- 10:54SPEAKER_03: So I really built my life up because when I first started with them, I had also just got the bomb dropped on me that my husband was leaving.
- 11:01SPEAKER_03: So I was really trying to hustle with them because wait, when was this before the move?
- 11:07SPEAKER_03: Yes, when I very first started with them.
- 11:09SPEAKER_03: My husband.
- 11:10SPEAKER_03: Five years before.
- 11:10SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 11:11SPEAKER_03: So it was like I was having to rebuild everything.
- 11:14SPEAKER_03: I was working multiple jobs.
- 11:16SPEAKER_03: So I was kind of naive, I think, too.
- 11:18SPEAKER_03: A lot of red flags that I should have.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: Well, you were dealing with your own shit.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: So you probably had a little bit of blinders on to here's this couple that owns a business that's been in business for five years, like trusting me to come in.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: And, you know, yeah, that vulnerability and that, you know, trust of people that will help you when we need it, you know, but then to get fucked over five years later.
- 11:41SPEAKER_03: I know, and it was insane.
- 11:42SPEAKER_03: It was bad.
- 11:43SPEAKER_03: Um, so when we moved into the new building, the something was just off with the wife.
- 11:50SPEAKER_03: Like we always worked together, but we were never friends.
- 11:54SPEAKER_03: And then it kind of started taking a turn where we were friends.
- 11:59SPEAKER_03: And so she would disclose things to me, and I would be like, That's not right.
- 12:03SPEAKER_03: That's not right.
- 12:04SPEAKER_03: That doesn't make sense.
- 12:06SPEAKER_03: So I asked her for a copy of um wait, go back and give me examples of what she was kind of saying.
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: So just just in general, like she didn't receive any money.
- 12:19SPEAKER_03: She, her husband gives her an allowance for groceries, like like that she like that they were broke.
- 12:24SPEAKER_03: So she was making it seem like we were broke, but I knew what I was bringing in.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: So there's no way you should have been.
- 12:31SPEAKER_03: And actually, that year prior, I don't know if we should talk about numbers.
- 12:35SPEAKER_03: Should I talk about my sales numbers?
- 12:36SPEAKER_03: Or I think it's great.
- 12:38SPEAKER_03: Okay, absolutely.
- 12:39SPEAKER_03: That year prior to the case.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: You're like, no, what a hustling badass you are.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: Because not every listen, I know a lot of people in the in your industry as well as mine.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: They are not as successful like you are.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: Well, I only work three days a week, too.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: So that's what I'm saying.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: But now, girl, well, even then, I did.
- 12:55SPEAKER_00: It was she was working three days a week.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: I was working four.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: We were coasting this the whole time, right?
- 13:01SPEAKER_03: And then and then I got my um income tax and for that year, and I was at 140.
- 13:08SPEAKER_03: So I knew I was carrying the business.
- 13:12SPEAKER_03: Hustle.
- 13:13SPEAKER_03: Hustle.
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: So if you were bringing in 140 for them, and then how many other stylists were there?
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: Um, the wife was there and she was pretty busy.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: Um, I would say she was probably 70% booked.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but even if like, so say, even if you say there's five other people there and they were maybe doing 50, right?
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: So 50k and you're at 140, and you have four other five other people there doing that, you should have plenty of fucking money to save the business.
- 13:39SPEAKER_03: And when she saw that, we were getting um where we couldn't order color.
- 13:43SPEAKER_03: We weren't allowed to order color, we weren't allowed to order stuff that like we needed to get on with the day.
- 13:49SPEAKER_03: And I am very blunt.
- 13:53SPEAKER_03: So I would tell the husband, because he controlled everything.
- 13:56SPEAKER_03: I would tell the wife and she would say, Call him.
- 13:59SPEAKER_03: So um I would say, Well, then you can call and cancel my all my weekend appointments.
- 14:04SPEAKER_03: I'll just hang out at the pool.
- 14:06SPEAKER_03: And um, when you have color, you let me know.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 14:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 14:10SPEAKER_03: That not can come in too.
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: And then all of a sudden the color would come in.
- 14:13SPEAKER_03: So I knew there was more money.
- 14:20SPEAKER_03: I don't rent a chair, so I don't purchase any of my own things.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: Is that what that means?
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: Like when you rent a chair, that means you bring all your own shit.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: You just bring all your own shit.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: You pay for all your own shit.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: You're your own boss.
- 14:27SPEAKER_03: You're your own salon in a salon.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: Okay, gotcha, gotcha.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: That's what I was trying to understand.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: Because it's like, yeah, no, they're I'm telling you, their setup is like cut and paste to the way we're we do business.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: So it's like where we are right now, like that kind of structure.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: It's all I mean, it's like pretty identical.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: Like you're like you have this many years and you have this much education, this is your charge rate.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: And you take home this percentage because your revenue is this much per month.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: Right, right, right, right.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: Pretty much the same.
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm like.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: I feel like it's the exact same.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: Well, and what's interesting too is yours is very much more immediate.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: So it's like, I know I'm getting these 15 people coming in this day or this week, or I don't know.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: How many clients could you see in a week?
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: Or with your three-day schedule, really.
- 15:14SPEAKER_03: It depends, like a booked day hustler.
- 15:17SPEAKER_03: I do three to four at a time.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: I was guessing she's doing three people at a time, girl.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: She's like rolling me out.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: I see I'm there for maybe a couple hours.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: Sometimes I get to stay for a longer time.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: I see she she does like three other people's hair while she's doing my color.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: That's awesome.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: Like she's yeah, you're efficient.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: That's yeah.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: And the other girls, that's the same thing.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: Like she's taught them to be like she is, so they're turning and burning too.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: It's that's awesome.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: Fantastic to watch.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: Um, not like other places we know that are very close to us.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: So what about so what about next?
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: So you said the wife was like, we don't have any money, then the husband's being weird, the color wasn't available.
- 15:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I can't, I can only put$25 in gas in a suburban, which is like a drop in a pail of water.
- 15:56SPEAKER_03: Like exactly.
- 15:58SPEAKER_03: You're gonna get down, yeah, you're gonna get down the street and putt-putt.
- 16:01SPEAKER_03: Like exactly.
- 16:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no.
- 16:03SPEAKER_03: So little things like that was kind of triggering me.
- 16:05SPEAKER_03: And because even though, you know, my ex-husband wasn't the best, I still bought what I wanted to buy when I wanted to buy it, how I wanted to buy it.
- 16:12SPEAKER_03: So I didn't understand what she was telling me.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: We don't understand that kind of life because we don't know.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, she could have been in a situation where he was abusive and she was afraid, or she could have been in on the whole thing, you know?
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: It's like that's the hardest part, is we we don't know.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Well, maybe we do later.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: We might know.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: We might know.
- 16:30SPEAKER_03: I would say the last like two months I was there, they went ahead and said the wife was like, no, Amber's gonna be manager too, and we're gonna figure out where the problems are.
- 16:41SPEAKER_03: And he was very reluctant to hand over that kind of um freedom to me.
- 16:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:47SPEAKER_03: But also, I'm a Matilda.
- 16:49SPEAKER_03: I will math the math out of everything.
- 16:51SPEAKER_03: We're commissioned, so instantly I know what my I'm taking home when I look at you.
- 16:55SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 16:55SPEAKER_03: Like I need to pay my bills.
- 16:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 16:57SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 16:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:58SPEAKER_03: So um I did that, um, like I said, for the last two months, and um, I just asked so many questions that the uh wife's eyes were in shock and disbelief.
- 17:11SPEAKER_03: She didn't understand.
- 17:12SPEAKER_03: So my first question was is can I get a month of bank statements?
- 17:17SPEAKER_03: And I went through and I calculated it in probably 45 minutes that there was over$100,000 missing.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: What?
- 17:26SPEAKER_03: Dun dun dun.
- 17:29SPEAKER_03: And she said it could be an accident.
- 17:31SPEAKER_03: You know, we helped.
- 17:32SPEAKER_03: Wait, I'm sorry.
- 17:35SPEAKER_03: But they had another business.
- 17:36SPEAKER_03: So she's like, maybe we were supporting the other business and blah, blah, blah.
- 17:40SPEAKER_03: Okay, well, as being a business owner now, you can't do that.
- 17:43SPEAKER_03: Well, you can't do that.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: That's illegal.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say, I don't think you can do that.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: That's a hundred percent illegal, correct?
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: Unless it's doing laundering money, right?
- 17:52SPEAKER_03: Like if you're doing it under the same LLC or the same DBA, it was these were totally different.
- 17:57SPEAKER_03: It's fraud.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: Yes, absolutely.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: Because like I have an LLC and then I have doing business correct underneath saying that's legal.
- 18:04SPEAKER_03: That is legal because it's your LLC, it's the one, and that's exactly if your LLC or your DBA ties into the same things.
- 18:11SPEAKER_03: Like if I had two different salons and under two different names, then if they tie in together somehow, you could do that.
- 18:18SPEAKER_03: Or if I had a brilliant gems hair one and a brilliant gems hair two, I can do that as well.
- 18:24SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 18:24SPEAKER_03: But he had a photography business, a wedding photography business.
- 18:27SPEAKER_03: And so she was saying that maybe they were slow, and then that's where the money went.
- 18:31SPEAKER_03: And I said, fine.
- 18:33SPEAKER_03: What do you need to run a photography business?
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: As much as I mean editors, that's all you really have to do, and pay somebody for a location.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, to pay rent.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so you pay your rent, but you're not buying supplies.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: No, you already had all of it, you already have all the equipment, you're just waiting for people to take pictures of them, and then you have to hire the editors to do it or be the editor to do it.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: So, really, the overhead is not uh it's a big investment to begin with.
- 18:57SPEAKER_03: But it wasn't the overhead that we were having each month, right?
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 19:01SPEAKER_03: So um we actually didn't have clients that morning, and I said, let's go to the bank and get six months more.
- 19:07SPEAKER_03: Let's see what happened.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: And and so she was on the account.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: So he did he know?
- 19:10SPEAKER_03: He didn't know we were doing this.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: No, I love this.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: She'd never questioned any of it.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: They were married 13 years and she completely trusted she was in the dark, she completely trusted her husband.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:22SPEAKER_03: So we went and got the next six months and we calculated even more.
- 19:27SPEAKER_03: And I'm talking hundreds and hundreds.
- 19:30SPEAKER_03: And going to places we didn't even know, we had to Google, like um very questionable things.
- 19:42SPEAKER_03: Um and then when we showed that to him, he automatically decided he wanted a divorce.
- 19:51SPEAKER_03: So he pretty much served her with divorce papers.
- 19:55SPEAKER_03: Did they have kids?
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: They have three kids.
- 19:57SPEAKER_03: He cleared out the account, and that's when we found out we couldn't there was no money to be paid.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: So he cleaned out all the accounts and left his family and the businesses.
- 20:09SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 20:11SPEAKER_03: Because they were on to him.
- 20:12SPEAKER_03: Because because I discovered what was going on, and honestly, um, it was a sex thing.
- 20:18SPEAKER_03: He was paying other women to live a life of luxury, pretty much.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: Plus him and his employees.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: Wait, were they here in town or were they just like online like sex workers?
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: Here in town.
- 20:34SPEAKER_03: In town or in San Antonio.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: So in town, he has other women that he is paying to live a luxury life.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: Like their rent.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: I mean, he did.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: He did their rent.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: He doesn't have his cash cow now, so I don't know who's probably getting him money now, but what the fuck?
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: The wife and those kids.
- 20:56SPEAKER_03: I that's what I told the wife.
- 20:58SPEAKER_03: I'm like, what are you gonna do?
- 20:59SPEAKER_03: And she's like, I can't believe he's gonna leave me.
- 21:01SPEAKER_03: And I I they he called me over there.
- 21:05SPEAKER_03: That this is how weird and manipulating he is.
- 21:08SPEAKER_03: He called me over there.
- 21:10SPEAKER_03: Okay, wait, let's let's take a step back.
- 21:12SPEAKER_03: Okay, the night before he told her he was gonna get divorced.
- 21:15SPEAKER_03: He called me and told me that she was mentally unstable and that she needed to be committed.
- 21:21SPEAKER_03: Um, he was in fear for the children.
- 21:24SPEAKER_03: And I said, That doesn't sound like who I worked with today.
- 21:27SPEAKER_03: That doesn't sound like my friend.
- 21:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:30SPEAKER_03: So I called her and I said, Do not do anything that he says.
- 21:37SPEAKER_03: He's trying to prove you're an unfit mother.
- 21:39SPEAKER_03: Do not do anything.
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: And then the next one.
- 21:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: She got it.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: She had been crying for a week.
- 21:45SPEAKER_03: She wasn't at work.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: Oh my God.
- 21:47SPEAKER_03: So he called me and he said, Can you come over so that we can figure out our living arrangements?
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: I just want a neutral party.
- 21:54SPEAKER_03: See, he was trying to manipulate me too.
- 21:57SPEAKER_03: But I don't think he realized.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: Who I am because I'm not easily manipulated.
- 22:04SPEAKER_03: The one time I wasn't paid, I made his fat ass get up and walk to the bank and get me cash.
- 22:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:09SPEAKER_03: And then after that, he had to deposit every payday in my account, which means he had to physically go up there and deposit it in my bank because I didn't, I wouldn't bank with them.
- 22:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:20SPEAKER_03: So I play zero games.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: Well, because you've been doing this now for years on your own and with two boys and being a single mom, like you have no choice.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: You have to protect yourself and you have to protect your family.
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: And it goes to show that, first of all, if there's a high turner turnover rate at the salon and you're there for five years, the wife starts to trust you.
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: You start to trust the wife.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: The wife is being basically financially uh manipulated and abused in ways.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: And then he turns around and tries to get you to make her look crazy.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: What a sick motherfucker.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:02SPEAKER_03: So what next?
- 23:04SPEAKER_03: So he called me to the house to um figure out the business.
- 23:10SPEAKER_03: So um before I got there, I told her to just basically um record everything she could and try not to talk on the phone, just do everything through text.
- 23:20SPEAKER_03: We just wanted proof of everything.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: So then, so you go over?
- 23:25SPEAKER_03: So I go over to the house and were you chitting kittens?
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: I mean, what were you doing?
- 23:29SPEAKER_03: I was fucking pissed.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: I know, that's what I'm saying.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: Like, I wanted to know I'm not shit like that.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: No, she was looking for which which weapon she needed to buy.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: So seriously, like, okay, we live in Texas.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: Like, would you have brought a weapon?
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: Did you bring a weapon?
- 23:44SPEAKER_03: I go.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: Okay, good.
- 23:45SPEAKER_03: My daddy made range of very fine.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: That's what I want to hear.
- 23:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: That's what her daddy's shooting range is a place that I honed skills for years before I left for the military.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: Okay, you're gonna have to teach me because I have a gun and I don't know how to use it.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: She shuts her eyes when she pulls the trigger.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: No.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: I don't think I do that.
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: We did in the last video you said.
- 24:05SPEAKER_00: I did.
- 24:05SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah, I think I did.
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: It's okay.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: We need to go.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: We need to have a go.
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we need to go have we need to go have church.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: That's having church.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: And I want to get my daughters to learn how to shoot too, because I want them to feel comfortable.
- 24:16SPEAKER_01: Because I feel like if it it's at least it's an important skill to have 100% just in case of an emergency.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: As a woman.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: Hold your back.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: Be protected.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: Take care of yourself.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: Don't be stupid.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: And don't put yourself with it.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 24:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I've carried for many years.
- 24:32SPEAKER_03: I've never had to pull it out or I feel better knowing I do.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: Well, and you and you're knowledgeable about it, which I think is the key.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: That's why I I keep mine away locked.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: Anyway so you go over what happens.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: And I'm dying.
- 24:49SPEAKER_03: Um basically was like, um, for twenty thousand dollars, you can buy half of uh 49% of my share.
- 25:01SPEAKER_03: And I was like, no, I'm not buying myself.
- 25:04SPEAKER_03: I'm the cash cow.
- 25:06SPEAKER_03: I'm the profit.
- 25:07SPEAKER_03: I don't want to sell a car.
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: But you know, you've been sitting there watching the turnover, watching the other stylists not be successful, you know, just in the industry, right?
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: Because we've been here around for a while and you've seen, you know, the books.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: You've already figured him out.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: I said no.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: And this the fact that the wife shared the bank account statements with you is fucking amazing.
- 25:27SPEAKER_03: Well, that's why we're now on the terms of she's my riot or die, because it really is.
- 25:33SPEAKER_03: It's trauma bonded.
- 25:34SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 25:34SPEAKER_03: A hundred percent.
- 25:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 25:36SPEAKER_03: I mean, I was out with a multi-highlighter highlighting what is this, who did that go to, where is this coming from, how much money went out each month.
- 25:44SPEAKER_03: And it was weird because each bank statement ended either negative or one cent every single month.
- 25:52unknown: Wow.
- 25:53SPEAKER_03: All that money gone.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: Oh my God.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: Okay, so he's saying you buy for$20,000, you can buy 49% of my business.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: And you were like, Go fuck yourself.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: And then what?
- 26:08SPEAKER_03: And uh I said, it's gotta be way lower, or I'm not even interested.
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: And he said, I'll draw something up.
- 26:14SPEAKER_03: And I said, Okay.
- 26:16SPEAKER_03: And then he drew something up then.
- 26:18SPEAKER_03: Um, based on profit margin of the next 10 years, he thinks that I should now pay him an even more ridiculous amount because over this amount of time he's losing this much in profit.
- 26:30SPEAKER_03: Well, once again, I'm not Jesus, but I'm the prophet.
- 26:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 26:34SPEAKER_00: Like, again, I know where the money's coming from.
- 26:37SPEAKER_00: I'm the one bringing it to you.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, why am I gonna pay for the money that I'm bringing you?
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: Right, that makes no sense.
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: Double paying for my money.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: That's like me going to my work looking like, okay, I'm gonna buy this.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:49SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna buy my own service by my own trading session.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: Like, what?
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: Correct.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: It's so simple.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: Buy my own session, and then I'm gonna go lay on the reformer and do my own thing for an hour.
- 26:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, just take a nap.
- 27:01SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna buy my own exactly, exactly.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: Crazy ass.
- 27:05SPEAKER_03: So um, no.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: Where was where was the wife during this conversation?
- 27:10SPEAKER_03: She was there recording, but just very much broken.
- 27:13SPEAKER_03: I mean, she was just devastated, she didn't understand.
- 27:17SPEAKER_03: And I'm just like, you know, and then at this this time he was like, Um, we'll redo the shed in the back, and whoever's weak it is with the boys, one will stay in the shed, and then the other one will stay inside.
- 27:28SPEAKER_03: It was just so weird.
- 27:30SPEAKER_03: Live in the shed?
- 27:31SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: Like to redo it in the shed, like a house, but it wouldn't have a bathroom.
- 27:36SPEAKER_03: It's just so weird, y'all.
- 27:37SPEAKER_03: I'm not even playing.
- 27:38SPEAKER_03: This whole situation is twilight.
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, fuck it.
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: That wife.
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 27:43SPEAKER_03: So I told her, no, he needs to get the fuck out.
- 27:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely not, girlfriend.
- 27:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no.
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: Like for your sanity and your children's, he needs to get the fuck out.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: And your safety.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: At this point, you don't even know if you know, all of these other red flags and all these other signs, like you don't know, you don't know what you don't know until you know what you didn't know.
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: And every day her eyes open a little more.
- 28:05SPEAKER_00: Right, exactly.
- 28:05SPEAKER_03: So you don't like to see anymore.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: What's next?
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:09SPEAKER_03: So then so he said, forget it, then we're just gonna be equal partners.
- 28:14SPEAKER_03: Um, we're still 50-50, everything will continue as normal.
- 28:18SPEAKER_03: I won't touch the account.
- 28:20SPEAKER_03: So me and the wife were while they were figuring everything out, we were like, okay.
- 28:26SPEAKER_03: Um, and then that's when we don't even normally work Mondays.
- 28:30SPEAKER_03: I would do the education for the salon.
- 28:32SPEAKER_03: So all the girls were there for a class, and then I had a few appointments at the end of the day just because if I'm there, I'm gonna make money.
- 28:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 28:38SPEAKER_03: So if you're driving in, you better pay for guests.
- 28:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:41SPEAKER_03: So um basically, right at the beginning of the class, I get the phone call that there's no money.
- 28:47SPEAKER_03: He took everything.
- 28:48SPEAKER_03: There's no money, nobody's getting paid for the last check and this check.
- 28:52SPEAKER_03: So now I'm out seven G's and I'm pissed.
- 28:56SPEAKER_03: So wait, who gave you the call?
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: How did you find out?
- 28:59SPEAKER_00: The wife.
- 28:59SPEAKER_00: The wife told me.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: She called me, yes.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 29:02SPEAKER_03: She called me and um she was upset.
- 29:04SPEAKER_03: Of course.
- 29:05SPEAKER_03: She said she was able to pull some of it because every day I told you is a draw.
- 29:09SPEAKER_03: So she was able to pull one day draw, but he was able to pull the Friday Saturday draw, which was a double draw.
- 29:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:16SPEAKER_03: So um she had enough to pay either me or everybody else.
- 29:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:23SPEAKER_03: And I said, if you pay everybody else, let's walk across the street to the bank and notarize that you're gifting me everything right now.
- 29:33SPEAKER_03: So she gifted me in lieu of pay everything that we could take that day.
- 29:40SPEAKER_03: And I opened a um storage unit and we moved shit until midnight, one in the morning in the pouring rain.
- 29:49SPEAKER_03: Um Damn, I want a friend like Amber.
- 29:53SPEAKER_03: Absolutely, girl.
- 29:54SPEAKER_03: And I told them they all started crying.
- 29:56SPEAKER_03: I said, get it out.
- 29:57SPEAKER_03: Um, if you want to stay with me, um I'm doing my own thing.
- 30:02SPEAKER_03: So I had an LLC that day.
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: I had already looked at a building.
- 30:06SPEAKER_03: I volunteer at the retirement home, and one of my ladies owned the building I'm in now.
- 30:10SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 30:11SPEAKER_03: And so I called the daughter and she said, Yep, what do you what time can you see it?
- 30:14SPEAKER_03: I said, today.
- 30:15SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 30:16SPEAKER_03: So we went and looked at it like eight o'clock at night in the middle of the rain and moving.
- 30:20SPEAKER_03: I pretty much signed the lease, already had my LLC.
- 30:23SPEAKER_03: My one of my clients owns a build business, and she came in and helped me do my LLC right then and there while packing.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 30:32SPEAKER_03: And within it was less than two weeks.
- 30:36SPEAKER_03: I would say nine days or something.
- 30:39SPEAKER_03: We opened the doors of the new place and it was bare.
- 30:43SPEAKER_03: It was it was very bare.
- 30:45SPEAKER_03: I did everything myself.
- 30:46SPEAKER_03: I mean, the girls helped me paint.
- 30:48SPEAKER_03: So um yeah, I mean, it it was a crash course in adulting, that's for sure.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean and so where was he after so he didn't know that you were clearing out everything?
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: So Tuesday he called good.
- 31:02SPEAKER_03: Tuesday he called me and um he tried to tell me to do something.
- 31:07SPEAKER_03: I said, I don't work for you anymore.
- 31:10SPEAKER_03: And he said, You need to know your place.
- 31:13SPEAKER_03: And I said, I know my place.
- 31:15SPEAKER_03: Your wife fired us all yesterday, advised by the police officer that we filed a report on.
- 31:21SPEAKER_03: Good for you so that we could get um unemployment if we needed to.
- 31:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: So how did that work out with the police?
- 31:29SPEAKER_03: So the police came and pretty much we did a report that day, and he said, I'm not gonna tell y'all what to do, but I wouldn't work for free.
- 31:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:37SPEAKER_03: And that's all I needed to hear.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: Like in my mind, I told the wife, like, you need to fire us in case we need to get unemployment.
- 31:43SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 31:43SPEAKER_03: That's the only way we're gonna get it.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: Correct.
- 31:45SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 31:45SPEAKER_03: Um, so she terminated all of us right then and there.
- 31:50SPEAKER_03: And I mean, I'm talking about a whole salon of stuff.
- 31:54SPEAKER_03: Like, yeah, can you list some of the equipment so people understand what shampoo bowls?
- 32:01SPEAKER_03: Um, and they're very heavy and have to be disconnected.
- 32:05SPEAKER_03: Um all the color, all the product, whatever was there.
- 32:09SPEAKER_03: I mean, there wasn't a lot of things.
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: All the equipment, all the computers, all the software.
- 32:12SPEAKER_03: Well, no, because he has trackers on all that stuff and still had access to all that.
- 32:18SPEAKER_03: So we left all of that.
- 32:19SPEAKER_03: We printed, I printed all of our clients' information old school on a printer in the back so that we can text everybody.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:28SPEAKER_03: One by one.
- 32:29SPEAKER_03: That's what we did.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: Now, did everybody that worked there go with you?
- 32:33SPEAKER_03: Um, for the most part, yes.
- 32:35SPEAKER_03: Um, one of them did not, one of them only stayed a month.
- 32:39SPEAKER_03: It was just too much negativity.
- 32:40SPEAKER_03: Um we were already all feeling very overwhelmed.
- 32:45SPEAKER_03: We did not need that negativity, so I just had to let her go.
- 32:48SPEAKER_01: It's hard that way.
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: It's so it's really hard.
- 32:50SPEAKER_01: Some people just have a really hard time festering through it.
- 32:54SPEAKER_03: And it's like I just prayed.
- 32:57SPEAKER_03: I just kept praying.
- 32:58SPEAKER_03: Like there was nothing else I can do.
- 32:59SPEAKER_03: That's all that I was allowed to do.
- 33:01SPEAKER_03: And you know, small blessings happen.
- 33:04SPEAKER_03: I think it's because I'm a good person and I like to give back to certain things.
- 33:08SPEAKER_03: I volunteer a lot at the retirement home.
- 33:10SPEAKER_01: I know you were saying you said that earlier.
- 33:12SPEAKER_01: I was gonna ask you about that.
- 33:12SPEAKER_01: So, what do you do?
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: Do you go in and cut hair?
- 33:14SPEAKER_03: So if they're on hospice, I'll go in and do whatever they want, their nails, their feet, their hair.
- 33:20SPEAKER_03: Um, if they need a ride to the beauty shop, I'll pick them up and I'll take them.
- 33:25SPEAKER_03: Um, one lady for a while was taking her to get her hair done and then grocery shopping.
- 33:29SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 33:30SPEAKER_03: Um, I just I just connect with them really well.
- 33:34SPEAKER_03: So that's funny.
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: You've permmed more hair.
- 33:37SPEAKER_03: I have.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: I swear.
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: And it's just, yeah.
- 33:41SPEAKER_00: That it's it's a it's a crazy situation, especially with that demographic and the perming.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: I know my my like my grandmother had her hair done every week.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: Every week.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, every week.
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: But how do how do you maintain that?
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: Because I don't understand.
- 33:55SPEAKER_01: Like my grandmother's gonna get permed every week.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: That's what I know, but then but she always looks really good.
- 34:01SPEAKER_03: They wrap it a certain way.
- 34:03SPEAKER_03: One of them told me she uses eight, not seven, and not nine, but eight squares of toilet paper, and she pins them around it.
- 34:10SPEAKER_03: That's so damn cute.
- 34:12SPEAKER_00: Oh, god, that is adorable.
- 34:13SPEAKER_00: That's so damn cute.
- 34:13SPEAKER_03: Several of them sleep on their stomach or in their recliner.
- 34:18SPEAKER_03: The back of the hair.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: I told one of my clients the other day, I was like, the back of my hair is none of my business.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't care what it looks like back.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: Because I've been getting up and down off the reformer and the tower.
- 34:29SPEAKER_01: I always feel like I'm like, you know, there's something about Mary got the thing with my hair sticking up in the back.
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: So I mean, the fact is that what the job that you do is a job of serving other people.
- 34:41SPEAKER_01: You are making somebody else what was that?
- 34:47SPEAKER_03: A child in need.
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: Did you hear that?
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: That was so weird.
- 34:53SPEAKER_00: Super weird.
- 34:53SPEAKER_00: What is that?
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: It sounded like a it sounded like an alarm almost.
- 34:58SPEAKER_00: Or something in the podcaster.
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: That was weird.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: That was really weird.
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: Anyway, being in service of other people.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: And I have this conversation with my girl that does my lashes and the girl that does my hair, Jen and Sarah.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: And I love them to death.
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: And I've been, I'm very loyal.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: I've been going to them since I moved here six and a half years ago.
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: Um, and so with both of them, we have a conversation a lot about how clients can really uh bring in a lot of energy into your chair, right?
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: Or into your salon.
- 35:29SPEAKER_01: And the same thing happens.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: They bring it onto their yoga mat or onto the reformer or onto the treadmill, you know?
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: And so when we're in those kind of situations, we have to be very open, non-judgmental, you know.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: You have to be able to take care of someone because now your phys their physical beauty is something that they're entrusting to you.
- 35:49SPEAKER_01: And your job is to make them feel better than when they came in.
- 35:53SPEAKER_01: Just like our job is that, but more in a different way, right?
- 35:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you guys are more inward, and outward.
- 36:01SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: So, like having having the ability to be in a place where you are not feeling comfortable with the owner if you're feeling uneasy in the building, like things like that, like that impacts everybody in that space, right?
- 36:18SPEAKER_03: And so, like So I just really didn't deal with him.
- 36:20SPEAKER_03: That was the thing.
- 36:21SPEAKER_03: Like, I in all that time I only dealt with him if something was wrong, like with my pay.
- 36:26SPEAKER_03: And like I said, it was only one or two times.
- 36:30SPEAKER_03: And I thought, well, it could just be a fluke.
- 36:32SPEAKER_03: But then I started noticing that we couldn't get product, we couldn't get this, we couldn't get that.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: And when the wife started talking to you too, yeah, and opening up to you, she knew you were a safe place.
- 36:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, then you were getting more information too, getting the behind the scenes of like, yeah, wait a minute, what?
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you're on a fucking allowance as a grown-ass woman?
- 36:51SPEAKER_00: That's not okay.
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: No, no, yeah.
- 36:53SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't have to do that.
- 36:53SPEAKER_00: Especially with the three kids, what you know what I'm saying?
- 36:56SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 36:57SPEAKER_00: Um, no, no, no, no, yeah.
- 37:00SPEAKER_00: What do you think?
- 37:01SPEAKER_00: Um what was the hardest part about the rebuild?
- 37:07SPEAKER_03: Like having to just that it was I mean, I knew you were in the corner and then.
- 37:11SPEAKER_03: I had a community around me, which I was surprised at how many people reached out and helped.
- 37:15SPEAKER_03: Like I was blessed.
- 37:17SPEAKER_03: One of my clients um gave me a check for$5,000.
- 37:21SPEAKER_03: Another client gave me a$2,000 check.
- 37:23SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'm gonna cry.
- 37:24SPEAKER_03: Um, just people just showed up out of nowhere to help me move.
- 37:28SPEAKER_03: My cousin, my uncle, who's 70, like they were helping me connect plumbing, and I mean, just everybody showed up.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: Everybody, see how important that is, and that's kind of what like what I went through with my husband.
- 37:40SPEAKER_03: Because you need that, like you don't realize you need it until you need it.
- 37:43SPEAKER_03: And then it's shocking at how many people are like really in your corner.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: And how many people will back you up because of the fact that you you were there for them, you know.
- 37:53SPEAKER_03: And that was just really the beginning because once we got settled, I got pissed.
- 37:58SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 37:59SPEAKER_03: So then I did I called the F.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: Well, because you're at first you're I was gonna say, at first you're in shock, right?
- 38:03SPEAKER_00: Complete methods.
- 38:04SPEAKER_00: And you're in survival shock and survival, exactly.
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: You're in survival mode.
- 38:07SPEAKER_00: And you're trying to pay bills, and I now I have to build a business in order to see my clients so that I can take money and get and pay my bills.
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: And the responsibility now of like, oh, I have a I have a business, I have another coworker, I have other coworkers.
- 38:22SPEAKER_01: I now have a rent.
- 38:24SPEAKER_01: Like that must have been shocking and terrifying too.
- 38:28SPEAKER_03: Well, and it was so the thing was at the other salon, the stations were so big and heavy, they were over 500 pounds, so we couldn't move them.
- 38:37SPEAKER_03: So I had to build stations, like I had to buy huge ass pieces of wood and cut them, stain them.
- 38:48SPEAKER_03: I don't know what I was doing.
- 38:49SPEAKER_03: You figured that's for that though.
- 38:51SPEAKER_03: I had no idea what I was doing.
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: Okay, look, this bitch once plugged a hole in her roof in winter in Chicago, I think.
- 38:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we had to tap shit.
- 39:01SPEAKER_00: I literally spent six hours on my back in the side of the roof in between.
- 39:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, to crawl space to patch the shit because it was middle of winter and nobody would come and do it.
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: And her husband was traveling at the time, so she's there with the babies.
- 39:14SPEAKER_00: You got to do what you gotta do.
- 39:15SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 39:16SPEAKER_01: So I literally I met a woman like three or four months beforehand that I clicked with instantly, and her kids were around my daughter's ages.
- 39:23SPEAKER_01: So I was like, Hey, can you watch my kids for me?
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: Because I have a roof leak that's coming all the way down into my first floor.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: I'm like, and I need to climb up into the crawl space or the attic space.
- 39:33SPEAKER_01: And I had to get tar and this mesh wiring and fix the flat.
- 39:37SPEAKER_01: And that bitch did not leak until that fucking roof was replaced in May when we could get it replaced because it finally thawed enough.
- 39:46SPEAKER_01: It was that polar vortex winter.
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: But anyway, I feel you.
- 39:50SPEAKER_01: I think being crafty and being like scrappy and being able to do these things is a fucking huge win because you can you can support yourself, right?
- 40:00SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 40:01SPEAKER_03: I don't even know what it would cost if I would have had somebody come in and do that.
- 40:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I didn't.
- 40:05SPEAKER_01: No.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: No.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: I mean, the the answer is like you said, you didn't have it.
- 40:09SPEAKER_00: No, like it was more than whatever it was, as cheap as you could have found it all was more than what you could have because you couldn't have it.
- 40:16SPEAKER_00: It didn't matter.
- 40:17SPEAKER_03: So all I could promise the girls was if you come with me, you will get paid.
- 40:21SPEAKER_03: Like I had no idea what else to tell them.
- 40:23SPEAKER_00: Okay, that's a pretty good promise, though.
- 40:24SPEAKER_00: That is a good promise.
- 40:25SPEAKER_00: From understanding how many, how often this is normal procedure in this industry, you know?
- 40:32SPEAKER_03: And the most fucked up beyond fucked up thing is is once I got pissed and started calling everybody, when I called the IRS, I realized that he was pulling my taxes from my check and keeping them, not giving them to the IRS.
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: So now that was another hurdle that I had to deal with.
- 40:53SPEAKER_03: He didn't pay taxes on her.
- 40:54SPEAKER_03: He kept my taxes for himself.
- 40:57SPEAKER_01: So then that means you owe the IRS or he owes it?
- 41:00SPEAKER_03: He owes it, but the IRS knows they don't care.
- 41:03SPEAKER_03: They want somebody to pay it.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: So now you have to pay it.
- 41:06SPEAKER_03: So I have to pay it, and if they catch him or whatever, then I I don't know.
- 41:13SPEAKER_03: I don't even know to this day.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: The same well, my husband died, and we owed like a ridiculous amount of money in taxes.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: Like one year it was like$25,000.
- 41:22SPEAKER_01: And so we've been on a payment plan because we didn't take out the right amount of money from what he was borrowing against from our our um, what is it called?
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: 401k savings.
- 41:32SPEAKER_01: So the next year he told me, Don't worry, I have it taken care of.
- 41:36SPEAKER_01: We've got the right amount being pulled out.
- 41:37SPEAKER_01: I said, Yep, I fixed mine on my end too.
- 41:39SPEAKER_01: I think we're good to go.
- 41:41SPEAKER_01: He didn't fix it.
- 41:43SPEAKER_01: And now I owe double that plus the 25.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: So it's like 60 some thousand dollars.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: I owe the IRS because he's dead.
- 41:55SPEAKER_01: And now it's my bill.
- 41:56SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, and then the IRS fucks me even more because I get to be a widow married jointly, my married filing jointly for like one year or two years or something, and then I have to be single.
- 42:09SPEAKER_01: And I want to fucking throw punch somebody about that.
- 42:13SPEAKER_01: Because to me, that's not my choice.
- 42:15SPEAKER_01: I didn't want to be single.
- 42:17SPEAKER_01: I don't want to be, I don't want to be single.
- 42:19SPEAKER_01: I want to be married.
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: And I didn't pick this.
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: I miss him so fucking much.
- 42:24SPEAKER_01: It's so awful.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: Um so when you called the FBI, what did they say?
- 42:31SPEAKER_01: So I just how do you do that too?
- 42:33SPEAKER_01: Like, so I didn't know.
- 42:35SPEAKER_03: I don't know, but they have an office in San Antonio.
- 42:37SPEAKER_03: So I called them.
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:38SPEAKER_03: Um, I called the IRS, I called the mayor of Bernie, I sent emails to everybody to not to let him open another LLC because we didn't even get into the fact that he was doing the same thing to his employees at the other place.
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: At this at the photography place.
- 42:55SPEAKER_03: He was filming the weddings, taking the money, and not giving the brides any of their photographs.
- 43:03SPEAKER_03: What?
- 43:04SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: I can't I can't even imagine bride zealous.
- 43:08SPEAKER_00: No, that's what I was just saying.
- 43:09SPEAKER_00: How is he still alive?
- 43:10SPEAKER_00: You would think that brides would have tracked his ass down.
- 43:12SPEAKER_03: I mean, if you Google his name, like you will just see he's all over.
- 43:18SPEAKER_03: Do not do business with him and wait.
- 43:20SPEAKER_01: So, okay, how long ago was this?
- 43:23SPEAKER_03: Um, it was in November of 24.
- 43:25SPEAKER_01: That was like two and a half years ago.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah and a half ago, year and a half ago.
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: Okay, I can't do math.
- 43:32SPEAKER_01: So where uh when he left his wife and kids, did they did she talk to him, see him again?
- 43:43SPEAKER_03: It's been a very bumpy roller coaster with a lot of back and forth court dates, and it's just been really a shit show.
- 43:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: How is she surviving?
- 43:53SPEAKER_03: Um, she's one of my employees.
- 43:55SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 43:56SPEAKER_03: And um we're just doing it.
- 43:58SPEAKER_03: Can you ride or die?
- 43:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: We're just doing it.
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: Is she is she in a better financial situation?
- 44:04SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: Thank God.
- 44:05SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 44:06SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, I never thought I would be a business owner, but I am very much into numbers and all of that.
- 44:15SPEAKER_03: So it's worked out and benefited all of us.
- 44:18SPEAKER_03: That's fantastic.
- 44:19SPEAKER_01: I mean, especially like a salon or a fitness center, a boutique gym, a Pilates studio, a yoga studio, even a restaurant.
- 44:29SPEAKER_01: Small businesses they have a really hard time at lasting because it's a lot of people with big dreams, with a little bit of money and a lot of big dreams, and not a lot of passion or not a lot of energy to put into it.
- 44:42SPEAKER_01: So the fact that you were thrown into the situation and now have a thriving business because of it, that's insanely amazing for you.
- 44:51SPEAKER_03: Well, I literally gave it everything.
- 44:52SPEAKER_03: That's that's what it was.
- 44:54SPEAKER_03: I mean the amount of work, advertising, promoting, free things I did, giveaways, drawings, you know, all of that is why.
- 45:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for sure.
- 45:08SPEAKER_00: Um, how do you think it's changed how who you decide to do business with?
- 45:17SPEAKER_00: And now you're in a different chair because now you're business owner, so now you have to do business with people in a different way.
- 45:24SPEAKER_00: I do, I do.
- 45:25SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna give you a chance.
- 45:26SPEAKER_03: And on top of that, I'm like they were gonna interview I think it was Thursday, maybe it was Friday.
- 45:33SPEAKER_03: They were gonna come in for an interview.
- 45:34SPEAKER_03: Their interview was at 10.
- 45:36SPEAKER_03: At 10 15, she texts me she's late, and I that she's gonna be late.
- 45:40SPEAKER_03: And I said, I'm good, thank you.
- 45:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 45:42SPEAKER_03: So that's how it's changed me.
- 45:43SPEAKER_03: I just don't take shit from nobody.
- 45:45SPEAKER_03: She said, Please, I said, No, I'm good, thank you.
- 45:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no.
- 45:48SPEAKER_00: I if you yeah, you didn't call me and say, Oh my god, my fucking downstairs flooded.
- 45:53SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna be late, you know, an hour before.
- 45:55SPEAKER_00: Even then, you you know, yeah, no.
- 45:57SPEAKER_00: Wait, what?
- 45:58SPEAKER_00: Like if you you you don't call somebody or text somebody 15 minutes past the appointment time to say I'm gonna be late.
- 46:04SPEAKER_00: Or on time on the appointment time.
- 46:06SPEAKER_00: No, yeah, like that.
- 46:08SPEAKER_03: Or even five or ten minutes before.
- 46:09SPEAKER_03: Like get your shit together.
- 46:11SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 46:11SPEAKER_03: If your shit's not together, then how do I expect you to handle my shit?
- 46:14SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 46:15SPEAKER_00: No, exactly.
- 46:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's a good point for sure.
- 46:18SPEAKER_03: So it has changed me.
- 46:19SPEAKER_03: I have been take no shit anyways, but I've just been way more stern about it.
- 46:23SPEAKER_00: Like my boundaries are that is absolutely a pillar of your personal brand, though, I have to say, being someone that I've known since we were teenagers.
- 46:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, literally.
- 46:33SPEAKER_03: I don't, I don't, yeah, you don't fucking I always tell my dad I'm the best son he has, and you know, yeah, I'm the only girl.
- 46:41SPEAKER_00: You're not wrong though.
- 46:43SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 46:44SPEAKER_00: That's exactly what advice do you have for somebody else who finds themselves in our sort of industry or your industry, and you suddenly find yourself unemployed in that type of way?
- 46:57SPEAKER_00: Like what advice do you have for people?
- 47:00SPEAKER_03: I mean, I just stood strong and I just go with my gut on everything.
- 47:05SPEAKER_03: And that's I believed that if I went to another shop, because at first I was looking for a place to house all five of us, you know.
- 47:12SPEAKER_03: But at the end of the day, how do I know that they wouldn't screw us if we're going in as a cash cow?
- 47:19SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's literally happened to me twice in a row.
- 47:21SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 47:22SPEAKER_03: I just know.
- 47:23SPEAKER_01: But is that saying fool me once, shame on me?
- 47:26SPEAKER_01: Fool me twice.
- 47:27SPEAKER_01: You're a dumbass.
- 47:28SPEAKER_00: Fool me once, shame on you.
- 47:30SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 47:30SPEAKER_00: Fool me twice, shame on me.
- 47:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:33SPEAKER_00: Because I allowed you to fool me again.
- 47:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:35SPEAKER_00: That's yeah.
- 47:36SPEAKER_03: So and it just made me so mad because they knew where I was coming from and what I wouldn't accept.
- 47:40SPEAKER_03: And they did the damn same thing to me.
- 47:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 47:43SPEAKER_03: Well, he clearly did not think, first of all, he had no idea who he was best.
- 47:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he had no idea who he was fucking around with.
- 47:49SPEAKER_03: Well, apparently he didn't even want to hire me.
- 47:52SPEAKER_03: The wife was like, Why wouldn't you hire her?
- 47:54SPEAKER_03: She has her own clients.
- 47:55SPEAKER_03: And he was like, No, we're we don't need to hire.
- 47:58SPEAKER_03: And she just told me she was very adamant.
- 48:02SPEAKER_03: And she even told me, she said, the first day I met you, I knew you were gonna serve a purpose in my life, and I didn't know what.
- 48:08SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 48:09SPEAKER_00: Oh, me too.
- 48:11SPEAKER_02: Stop!
- 48:12SPEAKER_00: I just have fun.
- 48:13SPEAKER_00: And I know who she's talking about.
- 48:14SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, Oh, I see that.
- 48:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for sure.
- 48:17SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 48:18SPEAKER_00: It was you were definitely meant, I think honestly, you were there for her.
- 48:21SPEAKER_00: So I mean, you were there for you, but you were damn sure there for her.
- 48:24SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 48:24SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, for sure.
- 48:26SPEAKER_01: What about your what about now?
- 48:28SPEAKER_01: Like, what's the status with him?
- 48:31SPEAKER_03: So everybody's still looking for him.
- 48:35SPEAKER_03: He's been uh subpoenaed to multiple court cases and has never shown up.
- 48:40SPEAKER_03: Um how is this possible?
- 48:42SPEAKER_01: I don't understand.
- 48:43SPEAKER_01: Like that makes no sense to me.
- 48:45SPEAKER_01: I don't understand this guy off.
- 48:47SPEAKER_01: He obviously is doing something, but he's got he's got online accounts, he's got a bank account.
- 48:53SPEAKER_01: Like, can't they find it?
- 48:54SPEAKER_03: But I don't think he's doing anything anymore.
- 48:56SPEAKER_03: Like everything's gone belly up.
- 48:59SPEAKER_03: He's hiding.
- 49:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:01SPEAKER_03: He never answers the door when the police come.
- 49:03SPEAKER_01: Oh, so he's he's in a home.
- 49:04SPEAKER_01: Like they they know where he lives.
- 49:07SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 49:08SPEAKER_01: But they still can't get him.
- 49:10SPEAKER_01: That's so messed up.
- 49:11SPEAKER_00: That's so messed up.
- 49:13SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah.
- 49:15SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's like grade A.
- 49:17SPEAKER_00: What the fuck?
- 49:18SPEAKER_00: I mean, I mean, I mean, I'm I'm probably not allowed to say this, but like people.
- 49:22SPEAKER_03: He is the biggest piece of shit cocksucker motherfucker I've ever met in my life.
- 49:26SPEAKER_03: And I hope I never see him.
- 49:28SPEAKER_03: I really do.
- 49:28SPEAKER_03: Why do you feel like you can't say that?
- 49:30SPEAKER_03: Because like I try to be a good person.
- 49:32SPEAKER_03: I've tried, I've done it.
- 49:34SPEAKER_03: I thought it was like legally.
- 49:35SPEAKER_00: Oh, Jesus, be listening, dude.
- 49:37SPEAKER_00: I try to be a good person.
- 49:38SPEAKER_00: I'm like, Lord, don't judge me, but fuck, but absolutely not.
- 49:42SPEAKER_01: But that's the hard thing, too.
- 49:44SPEAKER_01: It's like, how do you then, when something like this happens and Nora's dealt with it because of cancer?
- 49:48SPEAKER_01: You know, it's like, I didn't fucking ask for cancer.
- 49:50SPEAKER_01: I didn't fucking ask for a dead husband.
- 49:52SPEAKER_01: You didn't fucking ask to be screwed over by your boss and have to start a new business.
- 49:55SPEAKER_01: Like, how do you then take that anger or that frustration and channel it?
- 50:01SPEAKER_03: So usually I go to church and then I go to the shooting range.
- 50:05SPEAKER_03: That's pretty much where I channel.
- 50:08SPEAKER_01: And we're in Texas people.
- 50:09SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 50:09SPEAKER_01: Just so you know, that is the way we do things down here.
- 50:12SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 50:13SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 50:14SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 50:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I know we've got a couple more questions that Nora's got for you.
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: We want you got rapid fire.
- 50:19SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, I was gonna ask though, first.
- 50:21SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 50:22SPEAKER_00: Um if you could say anything to the amber that existed before the ball dropped and all of this happened.
- 50:32SPEAKER_00: What would it be?
- 50:33SPEAKER_00: If you could tell yourself something that you know now that you didn't know then.
- 50:41SPEAKER_03: I guess I would just say to be more alert and be more, but I think I already was.
- 50:48SPEAKER_03: I think I was just so overwhelmed with life.
- 50:50SPEAKER_03: There's not really much that would have changed because I'm a person that acts on instinct and I never go back on it.
- 50:55SPEAKER_03: Like if I say something, it is what it is.
- 50:58SPEAKER_03: I don't change, I don't veer, I don't do any of that.
- 51:01SPEAKER_03: So I don't think I would really change my job.
- 51:04SPEAKER_03: You were already trusting your intuition that I was proud of myself for damn sure.
- 51:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, for sure.
- 51:08SPEAKER_03: But no, I went the second that happened, I was like, fuck me, fuck him.
- 51:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
- 51:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 51:16SPEAKER_00: And uh yeah.
- 51:17SPEAKER_00: Then I would just say, like, is there anything about this entire situation?
- 51:21SPEAKER_00: I have a couple of questions that we're gonna finish with.
- 51:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, but like, is there anything about the this whole scenario that you want to say that you want listeners to know that we didn't ask you about?
- 51:32SPEAKER_03: I just think women should be and feel stronger than they are.
- 51:37SPEAKER_03: I think that we don't think we're as strong as we are until something happens.
- 51:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're right.
- 51:42SPEAKER_01: A hundred percent.
- 51:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I agree on that.
- 51:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:45SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, even look at the wife.
- 51:47SPEAKER_01: The wife.
- 51:47SPEAKER_01: Oh, she's a bad bitch now.
- 51:49SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 51:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, girls.
- 51:51SPEAKER_01: She's a bad bitch now.
- 51:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like I know her.
- 51:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's so important.
- 51:58SPEAKER_00: Absolutely, absolutely, in a fantastic way.
- 52:02SPEAKER_00: Like the woman that she was probably supposed to be is the one that we know now.
- 52:07SPEAKER_03: So that's probably why we weren't friends because we had nothing in common.
- 52:10SPEAKER_01: She was being controlled, she was being controlled a hundred percent, and then to get out of that controlled situation and being able to kind of just like, okay, I'm out of this fucking cocoon now.
- 52:21SPEAKER_01: Bitch, I'm flying.
- 52:22SPEAKER_03: And so now anything that she's asked about him, she's like, not my circus.
- 52:27SPEAKER_03: Like, nah.
- 52:28SPEAKER_03: Okay, that's our saying.
- 52:30SPEAKER_01: What about his kids?
- 52:31SPEAKER_01: How are how are their kids doing?
- 52:33SPEAKER_03: Um, they're good.
- 52:34SPEAKER_03: Um, she's supposed to do one week on, one week off with them, and she's had them all summer.
- 52:40SPEAKER_03: So I you can probably edit this if you don't like this, but I'm gonna say that.
- 52:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, say it anyway.
- 52:45SPEAKER_03: But I pray and pray and pray and pray for justice because I felt like nothing was happening.
- 52:51SPEAKER_03: And it turns out I guess the Lord has its own justice because he has diabetes and he's had several co uh toes cut off.
- 52:59SPEAKER_03: Um, he's had he has ulcers that aren't healing, and it sounds like hell to me.
- 53:05SPEAKER_01: But if he's going to the doctor, why can't they get him at the doctor?
- 53:09SPEAKER_01: Couldn't the doctor like make an appointment for him to come in or hey, when's your next appointment?
- 53:13SPEAKER_01: Let's sit outside.
- 53:14SPEAKER_03: So shitty is that it like has to be like a what do you call it when so many people want to sue someone?
- 53:20SPEAKER_03: Like a counter suit, like a civil suit.
- 53:22SPEAKER_03: Civil suit.
- 53:22SPEAKER_03: It has to be like that because there's so many small tickets.
- 53:26SPEAKER_03: Like each wedding's 3,000, let's say, or five.
- 53:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 53:29SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 53:29SPEAKER_03: But there's 50 or 100 of them that he owes.
- 53:32SPEAKER_03: If everybody were to get together, he'd be fucked.
- 53:34SPEAKER_03: So how do you do that?
- 53:35SPEAKER_03: I have no idea.
- 53:36SPEAKER_00: A civil, a civil, an attorney.
- 53:39SPEAKER_03: It's the same thing with us.
- 53:40SPEAKER_03: Could you start a Facebook page?
- 53:42SPEAKER_03: That he wasn't paying taxes for anybody.
- 53:45SPEAKER_01: Oh, I mean, that's a big deal because it's a huge deal.
- 53:48SPEAKER_03: So I didn't even know the IRS had this thing called a whistleblower.
- 53:51SPEAKER_03: So I signed up to be a whistleblower.
- 53:52SPEAKER_03: I'm like, what does that mean?
- 53:54SPEAKER_03: She said, Let me blow that whistle.
- 53:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 53:56SPEAKER_03: You tattle on somebody pretty much.
- 53:58SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 53:59SPEAKER_03: So then give them any information you can.
- 54:01SPEAKER_03: So I gave them all the information of all the employees that I had.
- 54:03SPEAKER_03: That's amazing.
- 54:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:04SPEAKER_03: But I proved that.
- 54:06SPEAKER_03: Knowing that he was not paying the taxes on their payroll.
- 54:09SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 54:10SPEAKER_00: Like literally not paying payroll tax.
- 54:12SPEAKER_03: That's some but deducting it.
- 54:14SPEAKER_03: We all thought, we all filed with the W-2 thinking that it was paid.
- 54:19SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 54:19SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 54:20SPEAKER_01: That's nuts.
- 54:23SPEAKER_01: So what's even crazier is like, how is she so she didn't have any money basically?
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: She only had that one day and she had to pay everybody else.
- 54:31SPEAKER_01: How did she survive?
- 54:33SPEAKER_01: Like, what happened to the house?
- 54:34SPEAKER_01: Like all the time.
- 54:35SPEAKER_03: Basically, financial abuse is a form of abuse.
- 54:38SPEAKER_03: So she went to the women's abuse shelter here in Bernie, which they should deserve a huge shout out because they helped her own.
- 54:44SPEAKER_01: Send us the link so we can link it in the show notes.
- 54:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:46SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 54:47SPEAKER_03: Um, so she didn't even know that was a form of abuse.
- 54:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it is.
- 54:51SPEAKER_03: Financial abuse is.
- 54:52SPEAKER_03: We were like, Yes, girl.
- 54:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 54:54SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 54:54SPEAKER_03: So they helped her um with everything.
- 54:58SPEAKER_03: I mean, they helped with food, helped her get signed on for food stamps.
- 55:01SPEAKER_03: They helped the kids get on medical.
- 55:03SPEAKER_03: They helped, I mean, they just stepped in and helped until she could get her feet under her.
- 55:07SPEAKER_01: That's amazing.
- 55:08SPEAKER_01: That's amazing.
- 55:09SPEAKER_01: I'll tell you, you fuck with a woman with and other women around them.
- 55:14SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 55:14SPEAKER_01: And strong women.
- 55:16SPEAKER_03: So they asked her how she did it, and she just said, My tr my tribe.
- 55:19SPEAKER_03: Like that's that's pretty much it.
- 55:22SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 55:23SPEAKER_00: Which is why I know you were there for that reason.
- 55:26SPEAKER_00: If if anything else, like you were there for that reason for sure.
- 55:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 55:30SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 55:31SPEAKER_00: What do you think this experience taught you about yourself that you never would have learned without this experience?
- 55:39SPEAKER_03: Well, I already knew I was a bad bitch.
- 55:42SPEAKER_03: But like I would cry at home and then I would just go to work and just do it.
- 55:46SPEAKER_03: Like, even though it was kind of keeping me down, there was nobody that was gonna stop me.
- 55:51SPEAKER_03: Um, I learned that I'm very much more capable than I thought about doing man shit.
- 55:56SPEAKER_03: Like the joke in the salon is I'm everybody's best dad because the girls don't have a dad and they're like, You're the best dad in the world, you know.
- 56:04SPEAKER_03: So they even text me on Father's Day.
- 56:06SPEAKER_03: So um I love that so much.
- 56:09SPEAKER_00: You're over there screwing the lights in, like taking a sweet and address on a ladder.
- 56:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's me.
- 56:17SPEAKER_03: That's me.
- 56:18SPEAKER_03: In a skirt.
- 56:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 56:19SPEAKER_03: I even cut a tree down on the property the other day, and um, I was wearing a skirt and I had my little protective glasses on.
- 56:26SPEAKER_03: And um one of the residents that lives behind said, What are you doing?
- 56:30SPEAKER_03: I said, Well, I asked them to cut this tree down because there's a spider infestation, so I'm just gonna do it myself.
- 56:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and he's like, In a skirt?
- 56:37SPEAKER_03: I say, Yes, sir.
- 56:39SPEAKER_01: Yep, I'm doing it.
- 56:40SPEAKER_01: See, you're like me.
- 56:41SPEAKER_01: It we don't fuck around.
- 56:42SPEAKER_01: It's not gonna find a way to do it.
- 56:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 56:44SPEAKER_03: I don't want to ask for help and be disappointed.
- 56:46SPEAKER_01: No, I don't know.
- 56:47SPEAKER_01: I'm just not gonna do that.
- 56:48SPEAKER_01: But you did take a lot of help, right?
- 56:50SPEAKER_01: Like I did.
- 56:51SPEAKER_01: You had to.
- 56:52SPEAKER_01: And how does it feel?
- 56:54SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, you said that.
- 56:54SPEAKER_01: Like you were surprised, but it's like, but you invested in good people.
- 56:58SPEAKER_01: You invested your energy in good people.
- 57:00SPEAKER_03: It's true.
- 57:00SPEAKER_03: I mean, I was very blessed.
- 57:02SPEAKER_03: I still think I'm very blessed.
- 57:03SPEAKER_03: Like, if I didn't know the lady from the retirement, if I didn't take care of her mom on hospice, like how would I know that all those people would affect my life?
- 57:11SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 57:11SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: Those connections.
- 57:13SPEAKER_00: That is one special part of the kind of work that we all are in, is that you have your these, you have our network people for sure.
- 57:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they love you.
- 57:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, literally, they show up.
- 57:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 57:25SPEAKER_00: I had so many, uh yeah.
- 57:27SPEAKER_00: Well, and if you think about gifts showing up at the door, cards from people who had their entire church write notes to me.
- 57:35SPEAKER_00: Like in recovery.
- 57:36SPEAKER_00: I'll be like, what the hell is this?
- 57:38SPEAKER_00: Who is that?
- 57:38SPEAKER_00: Where am I getting this from?
- 57:39SPEAKER_00: You really don't.
- 57:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and when it comes, I mean, the same thing with me.
- 57:42SPEAKER_01: Like somebody started me, the my uh friends at work started me of GoFundMe.
- 57:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, and I was able to give Campbell money so that she could go and start her life with that's her oldest daughter.
- 57:54SPEAKER_00: Okay, she's it's it was her time to go to school when everything happened.
- 57:58SPEAKER_00: And then yeah.
- 58:00SPEAKER_01: So, I mean, so then it's like that helped me out a lot.
- 58:02SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm still up Shits Creek with that paddle, but I'm I'm just trying to not worry about it.
- 58:09SPEAKER_03: That's kind of where I am.
- 58:10SPEAKER_03: Like it's just have faith that it's gonna work itself out.
- 58:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's all you can do, right?
- 58:14SPEAKER_01: And it just it drives me crazy when I do see people that worry about little things in life that are like, oh, I'm so stupid.
- 58:20SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 58:21SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, oh, I'm so nervous.
- 58:22SPEAKER_01: Like, what if, what if like I I get to the place that I want to go to and I can't get a good parking spot and I have to park far away?
- 58:28SPEAKER_01: Or like, what if the doctor's note that they sent me in the mail is you know, different than the note that they sent me in a text, and you know, it's like and I'm like, can I pay my mortgage?
- 58:38SPEAKER_01: Exactly, exactly.
- 58:40SPEAKER_01: Um, can I can I get food for my kids?
- 58:42SPEAKER_01: Can I pay for my car?
- 58:44SPEAKER_01: You know, I mean, and then it's just like it's just a lot.
- 58:47SPEAKER_01: But I think one thing that my my loss taught me was that the people that you invest in are gonna invest in you if you match the energy that you want in life, right?
- 59:02SPEAKER_01: Or you give the energy that you want back.
- 59:04SPEAKER_01: And that's just like when you first walked in here, I was like, ooh, yay, you know, this is gonna be fun.
- 59:09SPEAKER_01: This is gonna be fun.
- 59:10SPEAKER_01: It is, and it's good because you know, people like you out there were were there, you know, but it's it's hard to find them sometimes.
- 59:19SPEAKER_03: It is because there's so many people that are so negative and ugly.
- 59:22SPEAKER_03: That's why I'm like when they apply for my salon.
- 59:25SPEAKER_03: I say, if you haven't watched, you know, um God, I just threw a blank up with Dolly Parton.
- 59:34SPEAKER_03: God, that's a long time.
- 59:35SPEAKER_03: Nine to five.
- 59:36SPEAKER_03: No.
- 59:36SPEAKER_03: Oh, um I'm like, which one?
- 59:40SPEAKER_03: What are we talking about?
- 59:41SPEAKER_03: Uh the salon when she was a hairdresser.
- 59:44SPEAKER_03: Y'all didn't watch that one?
- 59:46SPEAKER_01: Yes, I did, but I can't remember.
- 59:49SPEAKER_03: Hold on.
- 59:49SPEAKER_03: But I even have it in my handbook because I'm like, if you haven't watched that, then you need to watch it because that's the atmosphere I want.
- 59:54SPEAKER_03: I want us all to laugh, joke, have a good time.
- 59:58SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 59:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, wait, hold on one second.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_01: Let me I'm gonna look it up.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_01: Steel magnolias.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_01: I will end all that shit out of the way.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_01: Steel magnolias.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_03: So that's basically the atmosphere we have at the salon.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_03: Okay, so if you haven't seen Steel Magnolia, give us it, give us some you need to do that.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_03: So they all just sit around and literally talk shit and laugh and giggle all damn day long about nonsense.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_03: We have emotional, like important conversations, but we try to make people feel good and laugh.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_03: And every time they leave, they're like, I haven't been to a salon like this in years, because they used to be like that.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_03: Now everybody's place like just little rooms or they rent a chair and then they leave.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_00: I don't know anybody.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_00: There's not like a community feeling to it.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_00: And your salon absolutely has that.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_00: 100%.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, if you think about the history of like salons in general, you know, it's like that's where you went to hang out with your friends to get your hair done, you know, at the same time because you're gonna hang out longer and not mad that you're waiting an hour extra because you're getting all the tea.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_01: You're sitting back in the empty chair, you're talking to your friends, you're getting all the gossip.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_03: So we have two stories, and it's like nobody ever wants to be upstairs.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_03: And when even when the clients are up there, they're like, no, we want to be downstairs.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_03: And we're like, there's nothing.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_03: I've never even been upstairs.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_03: So I only work downstairs.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_00: That's probably why everybody wants to downstairs.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_00: That party's down.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_00: Can you tell the audience?
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_00: All of them, not just one, but all of the characters you were for Halloween last year.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_03: So every Friday in October, we dress up.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, I love it.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_03: And uh my favorite was Sally Jesse Raphael, and I hate anybody who doesn't even know her.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_01: I love her with the red glasses.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_03: We need to put the millennial in the story.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_00: Write it down, write it in your notes.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_03: I have a picture of me and the wife, and she was a Judge Judy.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_03: And oh my god.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_03: She looks so good.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_03: Great.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_03: So we were doing like um TV, TV people that day.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_03: And then um, God, I don't even remember what was this year.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_03: We're already starting our list for next year.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_03: We want to do Duck Dynasty for one of those.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, that'd be a good one.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_00: So the salon, the energy, and just the place that she's created is wholeheartedly that style and um a safe environment where you can come in and you can tell your friend that you have cancer and like it's not the end of the world and everybody kind of knows, but and you don't feel you don't feel isolated and you also don't understand under a microscope.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_01: Well, and I think that's the difference between like gossip and tea.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_01: And like how you discuss people's personal lives, you know, and how you do it in a way that is respectful, but still like, oh, ooh, tell me about that.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_00: Ooh, that sounds a little juicy.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_00: We're like, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_00: You just sped over that bump.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_00: No minimum.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_00: Tell me all of it.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_00: I want to know everything.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_00: So you were Sally Jesse.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_00: And um And you're not, you haven't said my favorite one yet.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_00: Who was your favorite one?
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, it's Freddy.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_00: And she was a fantastic Fred.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_01: Was it like an ascot or was it a tie?
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_03: But it had like a little red tie.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_03: Um, like a little uh kind of like a mandate.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_03: I have a kind of like a bolo type.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like kind of like a bolo of something almost.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_03: But I mean, I was thinking about it.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_00: She was she was bottom.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_00: All right, you need to send me pictures.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_00: I need to see that.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we'll have to ask that.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_00: Um, okay, guys.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_00: Well, we like to end these interviews with a section we call rapid fire.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_00: Um, we don't have any other name for it yet.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we're gonna we're gonna come up with something better.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_00: But for now, we're gonna.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_00: Are you finished?
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was my second.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_00: Like, wow, she's throwing shit on the floor.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_00: I am um, Amber, finish the sentence.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_00: One word my friends would use to describe me is funny.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_00: 100%.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_00: This bitch is hilarious.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_03: I just come, I crack myself up all the time.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_03: I'll be at home laughing by my damn arm.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_00: Okay, I'm still learning how to adult?
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_00: That doesn't sound like you're feeling all of us.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, for real.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_01: I think we're all struggling to adult for sure.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes, it's a little hard out here on the streets, you know?
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_00: It is that yeah, absolutely.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_00: And yeah, every day, just a little harder in a weird way.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_00: I know, exactly.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_00: No, I know it.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_00: Uh, if you could thank one person today, it would be who?
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_03: I would thank Miss Alice.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_03: She's my senior at the retirement home that helped with the building and just a nice, kind soul.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_00: My superpower is.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_03: I don't take no shit.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_03: Nobody has can't I even for my friends, like, oh, I'm up to bat for anybody.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_03: I mean, I have a summer baby this summer, and she's teen.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_00: Adopted a whole ass teenager for the summer.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_03: They told her at work, this is her first job, and somebody, an adult man, told her to shut the fuck up.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_03: So I said, Okay.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_03: So she said, Why are we leaving so early the next day?
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_03: And I said, Because I'm gonna go in and see if he's gonna tell me to shut the fuck up.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_03: So I went in and talked to the general supervisor, the manager, everybody.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_03: Um, we ain't playing that game.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_03: No, yeah, no, that's no.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_00: I want Amber in my corner for sure.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I'm so glad she has you to just be the mother bear right now, because yeah, that's really hard.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_00: Okay, if someone is going through something unexpected, you want them to know what just have faith that it's gonna work itself out.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_03: And if you're a good person, it comes back to you.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_03: If you're a shitty person, you're not gonna have any fruits of that labor.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, watch the fucking get what you deserve.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_03: I agree.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_00: I agree, I agree, I agree.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, good.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much.
