- 0:07Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:09Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised.
- 0:14Speaker 2: The worlds of vegetal podcasts welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. I
- 0:25Speaker 2: expect them, like Evan said, to be overly aggressive. What
- 0:29Speaker 2: the hell prime time it's all about me? Let's go defensively.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Do we need to worry about pressure? Yeah, please stop
- 0:39Speaker 2: Paul shows from grinding my gears suggesting to you. My
- 0:43Speaker 2: advice is don't worry about it. Just don't worry about it.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Don't let them bother you.
- 0:48Speaker 3: No, I don't know a lot of people my age
- 0:50Speaker 3: better anyway.
- 0:52Speaker 2: I could say something, but I don't want to insult
- 0:54Speaker 2: a generation.
- 0:55Speaker 4: It's okay, this is one that I'm leading into, So,
- 0:58Speaker 4: I mean, it might not be Jamis, but that feels
- 1:00Speaker 4: like Chane is the style to you. We won't play,
- 1:02Speaker 4: but I always just enjoy his pre postgame. My favorite
- 1:05Speaker 4: one is, like I pray to God that I can
- 1:07Speaker 4: stop throwing big six.
- 1:09Speaker 2: You read stable coaching for his job or is it
- 1:11Speaker 2: pretty much all already? That's right? What am I talking about?
- 1:15Speaker 5: He's done?
- 1:16Speaker 2: Evan was kind of just lurking. People weren't going up
- 1:19Speaker 2: and shaking his hand for Brabel mentioning him by name.
- 1:28Speaker 2: This is the real.
- 1:32Speaker 6: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website for
- 1:36Speaker 6: deals by a Toyota dot com.
- 1:40Speaker 2: All right, welcome the Patriot's Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here
- 1:45Speaker 2: at Jill's Stadium, and uh, it's kind of a weird
- 1:48Speaker 2: Wednesday for our show because we're not turning the page.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Oh no, nothing to turn the page too, except the
- 1:54Speaker 2: bye week, which very welcome. Here in the building. Players
- 1:58Speaker 2: are already gone. Right. It's like NASCAR just coming out
- 2:01Speaker 2: of the parking. Couldn't get out of here quick enough.
- 2:04Speaker 2: And I don't blame them, but we've got a lot
- 2:07Speaker 2: to talk about. Do a little bit of an announcement today,
- 2:11Speaker 2: A couple announcements? Yeah, So, who wants to be the
- 2:14Speaker 2: bearer of good news to start it off?
- 2:17Speaker 3: This is your job.
- 2:18Speaker 2: I'll give you that.
- 2:20Speaker 4: Well, I will start with the first news of the day,
- 2:23Speaker 4: which was that Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft are finalists
- 2:26Speaker 4: in their respective category.
- 2:28Speaker 2: So what does that Pro Football Hall of Fame?
- 2:29Speaker 4: So I think there were six coaches and they were
- 2:32Speaker 4: narrowed down now to one, which is Bill Belichick, and
- 2:35Speaker 4: then there are a handful of owners or contributors as well.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Robert Craft was nearrow down to that one. So they
- 2:41Speaker 4: will enter the point with the modern era players as
- 2:45Speaker 4: well as there will be the alumni, the older guys.
- 2:49Speaker 4: Three seniors who were also announced, unfortunately not Stanley Morgan.
- 2:54Speaker 2: So I don't know.
- 2:54Speaker 4: This process seems to get more complicated every year to me.
- 2:57Speaker 4: But they are the finalists in their category, so Bill
- 2:59Speaker 4: Belichick is the.
- 3:01Speaker 2: But just because of the finalists in their category doesn't
- 3:04Speaker 2: mean they're.
- 3:04Speaker 4: In, doesn't right, I don't know the exact number off
- 3:06Speaker 4: the top of my head.
- 3:07Speaker 5: And three, it could be up to three out of
- 3:10Speaker 5: what out of those five? Yeah, there's three.
- 3:14Speaker 3: So it's Belichick, mister Kraft, Ken Anderson, Roger Craig and
- 3:19Speaker 3: Elsie Greenwood are the five.
- 3:22Speaker 2: The three seniors, one coach and one contract.
- 3:25Speaker 3: And up to three. But now you don't that's the maximum.
- 3:28Speaker 3: You don't need to put anybody in.
- 3:30Speaker 5: And they'll be in a group with the twenty six
- 3:32Speaker 5: I believe, yes, finalists, and.
- 3:34Speaker 2: They have to get in order to get in, you
- 3:37Speaker 2: need eighty percent of the vote. Yes, and whose vote
- 3:40Speaker 2: are we talking?
- 3:40Speaker 7: Now?
- 3:40Speaker 3: We're talking about the body at large. I believe.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Oh really, so the same people who are voting on.
- 3:46Speaker 3: I believe the other people are because these committees are
- 3:50Speaker 3: the separate committees are the ones that are putting in
- 3:53Speaker 3: I see, you know, for to nominate Bill Belichick and
- 3:56Speaker 3: Robert the.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Bill Pollians of the World and the Vic Carucis the
- 4:00Speaker 2: World and the South Platonios. They're voting on this group
- 4:03Speaker 2: as well as the current players, or I should say that.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Peter King and okay, Peter what there's what their cigars.
- 4:11Speaker 2: And Dutch it and writer and we will know the
- 4:13Speaker 2: results when.
- 4:15Speaker 4: I don't think we'll know it's till like Super Bowl, Yeah,
- 4:17Speaker 4: NFL honors, Okay, yeah, okay, So it's all clear to
- 4:21Speaker 4: the news, right, Evan's excited about It's Greenwood and Pittsburgh Steeler.
- 4:26Speaker 5: Right, there'll be there anyway when we find out.
- 4:30Speaker 3: I love inducing Man's plains to me the Hall of
- 4:33Speaker 3: Fame process. So that was great.
- 4:34Speaker 4: I didn't Man splain anything I asked him to explain it.
- 4:38Speaker 3: I know, it's just great.
- 4:42Speaker 5: I'm sincere.
- 4:43Speaker 3: I really enjoyed that.
- 4:45Speaker 5: No.
- 4:45Speaker 4: I just pointed out that another Pittsburgh Steeler, which Evan is.
- 4:47Speaker 3: I don't want to talk about it.
- 4:49Speaker 5: I miss what's going to happen. The ten Patriots that
- 4:53Speaker 5: are then they're still letting sere gonna let the Steeler in,
- 4:57Speaker 5: but they're not going to let any of the Patriots.
- 4:58Speaker 3: And that's exactly what's and a half and I know it.
- 5:00Speaker 4: And there you go, and oh God, and the last
- 5:03Speaker 4: news of the day, which I could let Evan do
- 5:04Speaker 4: if you want, but Drake, Drake may may officially your
- 5:08Speaker 4: AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
- 5:11Speaker 2: First time in his this last time in his career.
- 5:14Speaker 7: Here.
- 5:14Speaker 1: You know, it's crazy.
- 5:15Speaker 4: I had to go back, you know, the last time
- 5:16Speaker 4: a Patriot won this award, you know, all the way
- 5:19Speaker 4: that to twenty seventeen. Tom Brady wont it three times
- 5:22Speaker 4: and Gronk won it once and otherwise there's been no
- 5:24Speaker 4: offensive Patriots to win it him. Maybe not all that surprising,
- 5:26Speaker 4: but I would have thought maybe eighteen nineteen Brady got
- 5:28Speaker 4: something in there, but no, he didn't.
- 5:31Speaker 2: So congratulations Drake. I mean, Drake had a good game
- 5:34Speaker 2: to eighty two or something like that to touchdown.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Yeah, it's interesting. I can see where the furrow brow
- 5:40Speaker 1: You're like, But what kind of is it like for him?
- 5:42Speaker 2: It's been an average games.
- 5:44Speaker 5: I thought that was one of his better games.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Yeah, well he played with one of his best games,
- 5:47Speaker 3: But I thought that they were with Fred. I think
- 5:49Speaker 3: that like there wasn't.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Like a statistically oh my god, this was the game.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Like it's kind of like you've been doing this kid,
- 5:55Speaker 4: Now you.
- 5:55Speaker 5: Get statistically that's about I mean to eighty it was
- 5:58Speaker 5: like five yards off his career high ten yards office.
- 6:01Speaker 2: I think. But usually when you think of offensive player
- 6:06Speaker 2: of the week, you think of running back with two
- 6:08Speaker 2: hundred yards or quarterback with three fifty.
- 6:11Speaker 5: I'm sorry, I thought you meant in relation to May.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Oh no, no, no, no, no.
- 6:16Speaker 5: Two touchdowns.
- 6:17Speaker 3: I even got in relations to May like I think
- 6:20Speaker 3: I think that, like he didn't win it against Buffalo
- 6:22Speaker 3: when they beat.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Buffalo, But who was the up against that week?
- 6:26Speaker 3: I don't know how you could play they.
- 6:28Speaker 5: I was trying to get to, Yeah, he played great
- 6:30Speaker 5: game against Buffalo too.
- 6:32Speaker 2: The point I was trying to get to is it
- 6:34Speaker 2: probably wasn't a huge offensive.
- 6:36Speaker 5: Week downplaying Drake May awards.
- 6:40Speaker 4: I hear what he's saying, though, I was a little
- 6:42Speaker 4: surprised to like, no, it's just good, it's deserved. But
- 6:44Speaker 4: it wasn't like, you know, if he had three twenty
- 6:46Speaker 4: four touchdowns there, you know, it's a good look, respectable.
- 6:50Speaker 4: And I think the thing about Drake may too is
- 6:52Speaker 4: that this is like his consistent performance. It's not literally
- 6:55Speaker 4: wavering from this. He's kind of you know, two fifty
- 6:57Speaker 4: plus a couple of touchdowns and you know the note
- 7:00Speaker 4: turnovers was big too.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Yeah, so I think he's third in passing yards per game,
- 7:05Speaker 3: but he still doesn't have a three hundred yard game, right,
- 7:08Speaker 3: which tells you that every single week he's just at
- 7:11Speaker 3: like two eighty. Yeah, every week, And I give it.
- 7:13Speaker 3: You know, they did a little bit in this game,
- 7:15Speaker 3: like that last drive in the fourth quarter, they were
- 7:17Speaker 3: throwing down near the goal line. I think we talked
- 7:19Speaker 3: about it during the game. But he's very ethical, like
- 7:23Speaker 3: he doesn't go out there in stat pad a whole lot.
- 7:26Speaker 3: So you know, some of these fourth quarters, like they could,
- 7:29Speaker 3: let you know, he could go and rack up eighty
- 7:31Speaker 3: yards on a touchdown, drive up three scores in the
- 7:34Speaker 3: fourth quarter, and they don't really do that.
- 7:36Speaker 5: Do you agree with that? I think they've been in
- 7:38Speaker 5: i mean, not in control, but they've had the lead
- 7:41Speaker 5: in virtually every one of these games, and that's going
- 7:43Speaker 5: to lead to lower totals at the end.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Yeah, you take your foot off.
- 7:48Speaker 5: That's what kind of stood out to me in this
- 7:49Speaker 5: game because I agree with Evan. I think in general,
- 7:52Speaker 5: they've been very smart about the way that they've handled
- 7:55Speaker 5: the end of the game. And Mike Rabel has mentioned
- 7:58Speaker 5: many times after these games, it's always good to end
- 8:01Speaker 5: in victory formation with the ball in your hand, with
- 8:03Speaker 5: the ball and yeah, that's that's the.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Phrase big on the five minute offense, the.
- 8:07Speaker 5: Ball in your hands. Yeah. Yeah. You know. Bill used
- 8:09Speaker 5: to have those little quirks too, where people would call
- 8:11Speaker 5: it the red zone. He always called it the red area.
- 8:14Speaker 5: You know, everybody calls it the full minute offense. Verb
- 8:16Speaker 5: calls the five minute offense.
- 8:18Speaker 4: It's like these little we call it the green zone,
- 8:20Speaker 4: which it means go as coaches they do that too.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, So that's the news and it's all good.
- 8:28Speaker 1: It is good.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Drake is also leading in Pro Bowl voting, so he's
- 8:32Speaker 4: you know, Drake's having a moment.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Well deserved. It's uh.
- 8:35Speaker 4: I continue now just not getting right back into the
- 8:38Speaker 4: grind of another game this weekend and doing everything that
- 8:40Speaker 4: we have to do to get ready for that.
- 8:41Speaker 2: I hope I hope May doesn't go to the Pro Bowl. No, No,
- 8:45Speaker 2: he went last year, you know, because I hope we're
- 8:47Speaker 2: in the super Bowl.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Well, do you hope that he doesn't win MVP, because
- 8:53Speaker 3: the winner of MVP never wins the super Bowl.
- 8:56Speaker 5: But that's broken my homes did it?
- 8:59Speaker 2: So?
- 8:59Speaker 3: Oh right?
- 9:00Speaker 5: That didn't go It did go back a long way
- 9:02Speaker 5: in the last Yeah, But I want him to win
- 9:06Speaker 5: the m v P.
- 9:07Speaker 3: I do me too.
- 9:07Speaker 2: I don't care, I really don't.
- 9:09Speaker 3: I'm very adults.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I want to win the super Bowl, win the m
- 9:14Speaker 2: v P.
- 9:15Speaker 3: I'm losing sleepover.
- 9:16Speaker 2: This is so insane.
- 9:17Speaker 4: I literally was shook after that Raiders game in Week one,
- 9:20Speaker 4: and now we're talking about Drake Bay like leading the
- 9:23Speaker 4: league and probo voting and being and did have.
- 9:24Speaker 5: To have a pep talk with Mike and.
- 9:27Speaker 4: Ring your hand if you were shook after the after
- 9:28Speaker 4: the after week one, and you know, I mean it
- 9:31Speaker 4: was like, in.
- 9:32Speaker 5: My position, behind ahead, we have we have hands in
- 9:35Speaker 5: the air behind the glass.
- 9:37Speaker 2: In my position, I have to plan ahead. And it's
- 9:39Speaker 2: not unrealistic to think on the week of Super Bowl
- 9:44Speaker 2: we might have to cover Yes, Coach of the Year, yes,
- 9:48Speaker 2: m v P, Assistant Coach of the Year, come back players,
- 9:51Speaker 2: and several people in the Pro Bowl, and Evan probably
- 9:54Speaker 2: will be at the Shrine Bowls.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Come Back Player of the Year Stefan Diggs, yeah, I
- 9:58Speaker 3: think that will be not nominated. That's also an award
- 10:02Speaker 3: NFL honors obviously. The Hall of Fame announcement is that.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Nice, yep.
- 10:08Speaker 3: So when you've unpacked this, it could be all those
- 10:11Speaker 3: awards that you just named and the Super Bowl mister Craft,
- 10:14Speaker 3: Bill Belichick, Adam Vini, Terry Rodney Harrison, and potentially the
- 10:19Speaker 3: Patriots might be there in the Super Bowl in Santa
- 10:23Speaker 3: Clara as well. I mean we're talking. I love it
- 10:28Speaker 3: for you and for us though.
- 10:29Speaker 5: That's gonna awards again, that's so m v P. Yes,
- 10:36Speaker 5: Coach of the Year, Assistant Coach of the Year, Comeback
- 10:38Speaker 5: Player of the Year absolutely in play.
- 10:40Speaker 2: What else nic people in the Pro Bowl?
- 10:43Speaker 3: That's it. Yeah, that's it. I mean I don't know
- 10:45Speaker 3: if like Drake would be nominated for Offensive Player of
- 10:48Speaker 3: the Year and m v P, but it usually that
- 10:51Speaker 3: doesn't go to the same person, you know. I think
- 10:54Speaker 3: like Jonathan Taylor might or Pooka might win Player of
- 10:58Speaker 3: the Year and the MVP will go to the quarterback.
- 11:00Speaker 3: But it is, you know a little bit of a
- 11:04Speaker 3: sneaky down here to the you know player of the
- 11:07Speaker 3: Week thing. Sneaky that like last year Josh Allen and
- 11:11Speaker 3: Lamar Jackson had like fifty total touchdowns and they were
- 11:15Speaker 3: the nominees for MVP. You know, this isn't Stafford and
- 11:19Speaker 3: Drake aren't quite having those types of seasons. But it's
- 11:24Speaker 3: maybe that's just maybe the league is down. I don't know,
- 11:26Speaker 3: maybe even like.
- 11:27Speaker 4: Looking back through the AFC Offensive Players a Week answer,
- 11:31Speaker 4: it's like Josh Allen, Lamar, like those guys have cleaned
- 11:34Speaker 4: up that award since like twenty twenty. It's like two
- 11:36Speaker 4: three of them every single year.
- 11:38Speaker 5: Yea.
- 11:39Speaker 4: So it's it's it's just a sign of him, you know,
- 11:42Speaker 4: continuing to earn that recognition that he definitely deserves.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Right now, all right, anything else we need to get
- 11:48Speaker 2: on the table. I have a question for everybody.
- 11:52Speaker 5: Oh oh, I like when you bring a show prep
- 11:54Speaker 5: oh questions to the table.
- 11:55Speaker 2: I have the question, but I don't have the answer.
- 11:57Speaker 2: So that's why I answer.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Yeah, that's why we're here.
- 12:00Speaker 5: It a little less, but that's okay.
- 12:01Speaker 2: No, I just want to know, like, what are you
- 12:03Speaker 2: most interested this weekend when when it comes to the games.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Oh maybe maybe we should pull up the schedule.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I would say, as you guys are looking at
- 12:13Speaker 4: the continuing to see how good he plays.
- 12:16Speaker 5: I'm watching Denver because of the number one is not
- 12:20Speaker 5: because I'm terrified.
- 12:21Speaker 3: So scared that altitude is horrible.
- 12:23Speaker 5: Sorry, okay, just for anybody wandering out there, you know,
- 12:29Speaker 5: all four members of this show are very happily married.
- 12:34Speaker 2: So I haven't lived in a basement since college.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Didn't grow up and hang them.
- 12:40Speaker 5: I haven't lived in a basement, very happily married for
- 12:43Speaker 5: a long time now.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Even kids don't do the math.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm interested in Denver, but I think the games
- 12:50Speaker 2: of formality because they think they're going to kill the Raid.
- 12:54Speaker 5: Well, Joe Burrow at Buffalo, that's the game, just to me,
- 12:58Speaker 5: just you know, like playing a little Devil's Advocate. They
- 13:01Speaker 5: did beat the Raiders ten to seven.
- 13:03Speaker 2: I know it was.
- 13:05Speaker 5: It was a Thursday night game, which I think always
- 13:07Speaker 5: as a mitigating factor, but they did only win that
- 13:10Speaker 5: game tend to.
- 13:11Speaker 3: And their offense was they kind of had bo Nixon.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Hell in that game he had they had like ten
- 13:16Speaker 3: first downs offense defense, but very hard, right, like like
- 13:22Speaker 3: shutting down, you know, in order.
- 13:25Speaker 2: To follow the rules. I do understand that too far,
- 13:28Speaker 2: I do, you know, in order to follow the rules,
- 13:30Speaker 2: I do understand that the Raiders had to make all
- 13:32Speaker 2: the tickets available just to Broncos fans for this game.
- 13:35Speaker 2: I'll make it as much a home game for the
- 13:37Speaker 2: Broncos as possible. Yeah, it's unbelievable, really, yeah, yeah.
- 13:45Speaker 1: It feels like on the road.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Yeah, really trying to you know, challenge them maybe a
- 13:49Speaker 4: little bit for I don't know what.
- 13:51Speaker 5: I'll be interested in that game for the number one
- 13:53Speaker 5: seed obviously.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Bill's Bengals.
- 13:55Speaker 5: Bill's Bengals is a is a game because I think
- 13:58Speaker 5: there's a chance that Cincinnati gets it going like they
- 14:01Speaker 5: did around this time last year, and it's probably too little,
- 14:03Speaker 5: too late for them. But if they do and then
- 14:06Speaker 5: they beat Buffalo, you know, it's it's over. I mean,
- 14:10Speaker 5: the division's over. I mean not officially, but yeah, I
- 14:13Speaker 5: know practically, well.
- 14:14Speaker 3: I mean it's if they had Patriots beat the Bills
- 14:16Speaker 3: and anyway.
- 14:17Speaker 2: It's over.
- 14:18Speaker 3: If the Patriots win the game, if the Bills lose
- 14:21Speaker 3: to the Bengals, like they have to start thinking about
- 14:24Speaker 3: the playoffs, let alone winning the division. So you know
- 14:28Speaker 3: that that's definitely in play. You know, the AFC is
- 14:31Speaker 3: not exactly top heavy this year, but there's a lot
- 14:33Speaker 3: of teams that are like scrunched up in that like
- 14:36Speaker 3: five to ten range right now, that are all like,
- 14:40Speaker 3: you know, eight and four, seven and five, you know,
- 14:42Speaker 3: right in that range. But Bills Bengals for obvious reasons,
- 14:45Speaker 3: like obviously the Patriots are going to play the Bills
- 14:47Speaker 3: the next week and all that. But also I really
- 14:51Speaker 3: think the Bengals have a puncher's chance in that game.
- 14:53Speaker 3: You know, their defense is starting to play a lot better.
- 14:55Speaker 3: Burrows back. If the team that played the Ravens on
- 14:59Speaker 3: Thanksgiving plays Bills on Sunday, I think they might win.
- 15:02Speaker 5: Is very limited offensively right now with all the guys
- 15:05Speaker 5: that they're missing. I don't know who's coming back. Maybe
- 15:07Speaker 5: Kincaid and Dawkins and Brown, all these guys.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Like Dawkes will probably be back because he's just a
- 15:12Speaker 3: concussion protocol, but I don't know about uh Brown because
- 15:16Speaker 3: that that injury looked bad.
- 15:17Speaker 5: I mean the first third down of the game against
- 15:20Speaker 5: Pittsburgh for Buffalo, Josh Allen's with the ball of Brandon Cooks,
- 15:24Speaker 5: who's been on the team for twenty minutes. Yeah, like
- 15:26Speaker 5: they're in a they're not Evan's right, they're not guaranteed
- 15:30Speaker 5: to make the playoffs.
- 15:31Speaker 4: There's a bit of them, man, that is I mean,
- 15:32Speaker 4: it's such it's you get on one thing. Sometimes it
- 15:35Speaker 4: feel like it because you put the cart before the
- 15:37Speaker 4: horse and you say, oh, they can't throw the ball
- 15:38Speaker 4: down the field, but like they really can't throw the
- 15:40Speaker 4: ball down the field, like they just think everything is underneath,
- 15:42Speaker 4: and you can tell that it's just different. They're struggling
- 15:45Speaker 4: and that when they signed Cooks that was like that
- 15:47Speaker 4: makes total sense.
- 15:48Speaker 8: That's it.
- 15:48Speaker 5: I mean it's it's a good signing, but it just
- 15:51Speaker 5: speaks to how desperate.
- 15:52Speaker 3: This and gave Davis too, just got Davis before.
- 15:56Speaker 5: He's also getting targeted, yeah, you know, reasonably frequently.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean outside of Shakir, they they just don't
- 16:02Speaker 3: really have anything consistent. And I think that like you
- 16:05Speaker 3: see the difference between a team like the Patriots that's
- 16:07Speaker 3: been building since training camp and how they have the
- 16:10Speaker 3: same core group of guys with around Drake since training
- 16:13Speaker 3: camp and how advanced they can get from a passing
- 16:16Speaker 3: game perspective. And then you watch Buffalo and it's like
- 16:18Speaker 3: the same five plays because they only they Brandon Cooks
- 16:22Speaker 3: only knows five plays. So, like, you know, it's not
- 16:25Speaker 3: like any knock on their talent necessarily, it's just like
- 16:28Speaker 3: they literally haven't had enough time on task to build
- 16:31Speaker 3: an offense.
- 16:31Speaker 5: Like, I wouldn't dismiss their chances. You know, with all
- 16:35Speaker 5: that said and their inability to throw the ball downfield
- 16:38Speaker 5: and I think it was the lowest you know, average
- 16:40Speaker 5: depth of target of his career. From that game, they
- 16:44Speaker 5: still blew out a team at home.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Yeah, they blew.
- 16:46Speaker 5: Out Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh that game wasn't competitive. So even
- 16:51Speaker 5: with all of that going wrong, they still found a
- 16:54Speaker 5: way to win a game that they had to win.
- 16:56Speaker 5: So I wouldn't dismiss their chances.
- 16:58Speaker 2: The other game I'll be interested is at one o'clock
- 17:01Speaker 2: Indian Jackson.
- 17:02Speaker 4: I was just gonna say that one Fred, Yeah, I mean,
- 17:04Speaker 4: is Indy bounced back?
- 17:05Speaker 2: Where are they right now?
- 17:05Speaker 4: You've got a Jacksonville team that's been up and down,
- 17:08Speaker 4: but surgeon.
- 17:08Speaker 1: A little bit.
- 17:09Speaker 4: And I mean they have a real chance to get
- 17:11Speaker 4: back on top of that.
- 17:12Speaker 5: I've seen Jacksonville a little bit and I can't think.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Of a team can't put my finger on that team.
- 17:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean maybe Mike's Carolina Panthers, But I can't
- 17:20Speaker 5: think of a team that looks better and worse at
- 17:23Speaker 5: different times. They've taken Maybe Carolina.
- 17:26Speaker 3: They've taken the game kind of out at Trevor Lawrence's hands.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Like they're run first offense.
- 17:30Speaker 9: Now.
- 17:30Speaker 3: Absolutely, their run game is good.
- 17:32Speaker 5: And there are times that Lawrence just like gets in
- 17:34Speaker 5: a groove and it's like that's the number one and
- 17:36Speaker 5: then you watch them and he's like wildly inaccurate and
- 17:40Speaker 5: Liam Cohen yelling at him on the sideline and.
- 17:42Speaker 3: It's a bizarre It's it's a bizarre team. And like
- 17:45Speaker 3: Brian Thomas has kind of had a down year, Travis
- 17:48Speaker 3: Hunters hurt, so they're not even like getting the production
- 17:51Speaker 3: out of those guys that you were expecting. And they're
- 17:53Speaker 3: eight and four.
- 17:54Speaker 5: You know who's been big for him is the acquisition
- 17:56Speaker 5: of Jacobe Myers. Yeah, he's played well for him and
- 17:58Speaker 5: the kid Parker Washington.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Mister Myers, how you doing? He doesn't listen.
- 18:04Speaker 5: Probably doesn't.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Well, if we played the Jaguars in the playoffs, yeah, yeah,
- 18:08Speaker 3: he'll be back, even Texans at Chiefs.
- 18:10Speaker 2: The eight twenty games some night, I mean that's a
- 18:12Speaker 2: defense against and the Thursday night games Agown to Detroit Dallas.
- 18:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I just those schedules. I know, I don't want
- 18:20Speaker 5: to go down that rabbit hole that.
- 18:21Speaker 2: We did yesterday.
- 18:22Speaker 5: But Detroit Thursday night against Dallas, like it's amazing.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Yeah, but I guess you'd rather do that, you know,
- 18:33Speaker 2: than that.
- 18:34Speaker 3: A few years ago, like towards the end of Thursday Thursday. Yeah,
- 18:38Speaker 3: I think three in a row, three prime time games
- 18:41Speaker 3: in a row, and it was like one of them
- 18:43Speaker 3: was like Thursday Thursday. Yeah.
- 18:45Speaker 2: So so some good games, some real stinkers, you know,
- 18:49Speaker 2: Tennessee Cleveland. I don't think I'll be tuning into that one.
- 18:51Speaker 1: No, you know, Watson window open.
- 18:56Speaker 5: I forgot, that's miles out at watch game right there
- 19:01Speaker 5: on game. That's what I'm saying. Cam Woard leads the
- 19:05Speaker 5: league in getting sacked. There you go, sacks taken.
- 19:07Speaker 3: I think he only needs like three.
- 19:09Speaker 4: Right, what is the record, like twenty twenty three something
- 19:13Speaker 4: like that.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Yeah, it's something like that. Yeah, all right, we can
- 19:18Speaker 2: look so just you know, i'd ask what people are
- 19:21Speaker 2: going to be paying attention to this weekend.
- 19:24Speaker 5: And you saying all those games that we mentioned.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm looking for out of the ordinary.
- 19:29Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a decent, decent slate.
- 19:31Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a good slights much better than last week
- 19:33Speaker 4: twenty two and a half, straight hand and watt TJT.
- 19:36Speaker 2: So I knew the players I was watching last weekend,
- 19:39Speaker 2: and we kind of redid our Infinity lineup and kind
- 19:42Speaker 2: of carved out some stuff that we didn't want and
- 19:47Speaker 2: we didn't know it. But doing that, we didn't get
- 19:49Speaker 2: the We got an NFL network, but we didn't get
- 19:51Speaker 2: the NFL Round Zone anymore. But from what I understand,
- 19:54Speaker 2: it's now littered with ads.
- 19:56Speaker 5: Yeah, just screen exaggeration, is okay, I saw that same
- 20:03Speaker 5: thing that you saw today. They do periodically pop up,
- 20:06Speaker 5: but you don't ever lose.
- 20:07Speaker 2: The Oh okay, it's just the commercial mind that you
- 20:13Speaker 2: barely don't mind that.
- 20:14Speaker 5: Yeah, and I agree with Mike at this point, you've
- 20:17Speaker 5: seen it enough that doesn't you don't really even notice it.
- 20:20Speaker 4: There are dead points in red zone for everybody. You know,
- 20:22Speaker 4: there are points where like we got to just go
- 20:24Speaker 4: right now to the.
- 20:26Speaker 5: Less time for Scott Hansen to be misidentifying people in situations.
- 20:29Speaker 3: This last Sunday, like the one pm window was not
- 20:33Speaker 3: great anyway, and so they you could tell that they
- 20:36Speaker 3: just loaded up all the ads in the one pm
- 20:38Speaker 3: windows so that once they got to the better games
- 20:40Speaker 3: at four they could have didn't have to throw to
- 20:43Speaker 3: the comer. It's not that bad.
- 20:44Speaker 2: It's the way you read it. It was like they
- 20:46Speaker 2: were going away.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Yeah, people are outraged about it, and that's one I
- 20:49Speaker 4: don't really get out.
- 20:50Speaker 5: I am not necessarily saying it's not going to be
- 20:53Speaker 5: an issue down the road like when ESPN fully you know,
- 20:58Speaker 5: takes it over. And I do want to if they'll
- 21:01Speaker 5: make any changes.
- 21:02Speaker 4: Yeah, you know that commercial two box and keep the
- 21:06Speaker 4: keep the stream up of.
- 21:07Speaker 5: Red Zone annoying, but you can live with it. Yeah,
- 21:10Speaker 5: it's no more annoying than when they do that regularly.
- 21:13Speaker 5: You know, they go to the squad box.
- 21:16Speaker 4: You know what I was thinking watching Red Zone this
- 21:17Speaker 4: week was like Scott Hansen on a long time without talking,
- 21:19Speaker 4: and I was like, I wonder if he's like on
- 21:20Speaker 4: a bathroom break, like what is you know, sometimes the guys,
- 21:23Speaker 4: I gotta I just I gotta go, like you have
- 21:25Speaker 4: to run off the stage.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Really, he might have one of those things.
- 21:29Speaker 5: Hour starts.
- 21:31Speaker 3: I think I worked with him at NFL Network and
- 21:34Speaker 3: might worked like.
- 21:35Speaker 2: His piss boy.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Yes, I mean like I'm not going, I'm not gonna lie. Yeah,
- 21:43Speaker 3: like you know, rich Eyes and waters and stuff like that.
- 21:47Speaker 3: You know, but it was I did like two or
- 21:51Speaker 3: three Red Zone Sundays. He doesn't move. No, he doesn't move.
- 21:54Speaker 3: There's a bathroom behind him, behind the wall.
- 21:56Speaker 5: It's a lot like Paul on Red Stones.
- 21:58Speaker 3: I don't move either, bike he I mean maybe maybe
- 22:02Speaker 3: once maybe, but yeah, he does the same thing. He
- 22:06Speaker 3: comes in on the mornings, he eats breakfast, and he
- 22:09Speaker 3: has his binder, research binder, so he.
- 22:12Speaker 5: Does he does research and still makes all those mistakes.
- 22:18Speaker 5: I'm sure.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I'm he's fine. I think he does a good shit.
- 22:24Speaker 5: Say this all the time. It's absolutely a me issue,
- 22:27Speaker 5: just and it's I think you're just jealous you want
- 22:29Speaker 5: to do that. It's the thing that Mike always says,
- 22:32Speaker 5: like he Mike just has this look that he looks
- 22:34Speaker 5: at me and just shakes his head as if to say,
- 22:37Speaker 5: how on earth do you know that, and I it's
- 22:41Speaker 5: a me thing. It's just there, random things that are
- 22:44Speaker 5: Like when a guy's makes a play and it's a
- 22:46Speaker 5: number for a team, I almost almost immediately know who
- 22:50Speaker 5: it is, and he almost never seems to know who
- 22:52Speaker 5: it is. He just misidentifies the guy so much.
- 22:56Speaker 4: Well, you spoiled it now for me when I watch it,
- 22:58Speaker 4: because every mistake is.
- 23:00Speaker 5: Again, come on, he's one of the one.
- 23:03Speaker 2: If you're a fantasy player, that man has been all
- 23:05Speaker 2: I care about his seeing the highlight.
- 23:06Speaker 5: It's also the excitement of the mundane, you know, the
- 23:12Speaker 5: over the top enthusiasm for like a third and six completion.
- 23:15Speaker 3: Very upset by.
- 23:16Speaker 2: This, God forbid.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Out of all the people that I worked, he was
- 23:22Speaker 3: one of the best. He's at the top of the list. No,
- 23:25Speaker 3: it's better than Colleen.
- 23:27Speaker 5: This is not about personal Like I've never met Scott.
- 23:30Speaker 5: I know I have, and I like which that's all.
- 23:35Speaker 5: So your other guy that used to get waterspo.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Oh, yeah yeah, waters coffees.
- 23:42Speaker 5: Pens.
- 23:42Speaker 3: Pens was always big, like you always had in my pockets.
- 23:46Speaker 3: I would just have like ten pens because these guys,
- 23:48Speaker 3: you know, they they'd never have a pen, so they're
- 23:50Speaker 3: like you have a you have a pen like, Yeah,
- 23:53Speaker 3: seventeen of them.
- 23:55Speaker 2: I've done that.
- 23:56Speaker 3: Just it was the best awesome two years.
- 23:58Speaker 2: All right. We had a lot of emails coming in. Wow,
- 24:01Speaker 2: it's really it's it's crazy. I love this show and
- 24:04Speaker 2: I love our listeners. They were always ready to engage
- 24:10Speaker 2: good stuff.
- 24:11Speaker 5: Thanks for keeping us at the top of those rankings.
- 24:13Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you.
- 24:14Speaker 4: Yeah, right, appreciate all the with the Spotify's that would
- 24:18Speaker 4: This is where.
- 24:18Speaker 5: I needed you and Evan to sort of fill in
- 24:21Speaker 5: the gaps. You know me, I just know randomness. I
- 24:24Speaker 5: don't know the specifics you got.
- 24:25Speaker 4: You got a couple of tweets at you of people
- 24:27Speaker 4: sharing their top listened episodes.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Yes, Todd and Rochester, says Fred. I'm surprised you've not
- 24:32Speaker 2: mentioned the timing of the Patriots by coming at a
- 24:36Speaker 2: Monday night game, meaning players are finishing the game at
- 24:38Speaker 2: midnight instead of say Sunday evening for a one pm game,
- 24:41Speaker 2: one less day almost two before playing Buffalo next. I
- 24:45Speaker 2: say this with your Patriots versus everybody talk and the
- 24:48Speaker 2: NFL hates the Patriots had on I listen to snarky
- 24:52Speaker 2: Paul's response.
- 24:53Speaker 10: No, I don't know them yea, other than the Giants
- 24:56Speaker 10: had the Giants. Yeah, this is they hate the Giants too,
- 25:02Speaker 10: So there it is.
- 25:03Speaker 5: It's a little snark.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Okay, that's right.
- 25:07Speaker 9: Oh.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Spotify just released their yearly wrap up today. Yeah, we
- 25:10Speaker 2: get those this time of year. They just wanted to
- 25:13Speaker 2: share the time I've spent with the crew. I've never emailed,
- 25:16Speaker 2: nor have I called, but I love the new crew nonetheless.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Thank you for carrying the fan base through the Mac
- 25:22Speaker 2: Jones era and being the highlight of my Tuesdays through Thursdays.
- 25:26Speaker 2: So this is Patrick and he spent ten four hundred
- 25:31Speaker 2: and fifty seven minutes on Spotify listening to our podcast.
- 25:35Speaker 2: I'm sorry, top three percent fan. So I've gotten a
- 25:39Speaker 2: lot of those and I appreciate next year. I guess
- 25:43Speaker 2: if you listen to Spotify, you get an email at
- 25:45Speaker 2: the end of the year about how many minutes you've spent.
- 25:47Speaker 3: How many over ten thousand minutes you're an expert on this, Yes, yes,
- 25:52Speaker 3: thank you, that's ten thousand.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Doing the math, so it's uh one hundred.
- 26:02Speaker 1: I started to do it and then I was like, wait,
- 26:05Speaker 1: what minutes.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Three d and sixty minutes a week time?
- 26:10Speaker 5: Hey, francessa let's go one two all right anyway, free.
- 26:16Speaker 2: So good stuff. Always always like to get those emails
- 26:20Speaker 2: from people. Eight five to five past five hundred is
- 26:23Speaker 2: the hotline. Let's go to Dan, who's at exit one
- 26:26Speaker 2: forty five off the Garden State Parkway. What's up Dan?
- 26:33Speaker 11: Thanks Red, this is kind of a Wednesday before the
- 26:36Speaker 11: buy topic. I'll let our his thoughts to well deserve
- 26:40Speaker 11: bouquets around this scene in this season, I've listed you
- 26:43Speaker 11: so great job with episode one on the eighty five teams.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Thank you enjoyed it.
- 26:48Speaker 11: Looking forward to.
- 26:49Speaker 4: Episode two Monday, coming Monday.
- 26:53Speaker 12: Okay, great.
- 26:53Speaker 11: I know you couldn't go into with any death, but
- 26:56Speaker 11: you didn't touch on it. And I've done some research
- 26:59Speaker 11: into you know, football, both football especially never took off
- 27:03Speaker 11: at Boston before the Patriots and the reason those three
- 27:07Speaker 11: NFL teams and there was actually a couple of AFL
- 27:10Speaker 11: teams too mixed in there. The reason they didn't stick.
- 27:13Speaker 11: And even then after the Patriots came and it took
- 27:17Speaker 11: a little while, even after they moved to Foxborough's shadow
- 27:24Speaker 11: of the Bruins and the Sock, there was really kind
- 27:26Speaker 11: of a saturation point we reached here with kind of
- 27:30Speaker 11: damp in the markets for both football even you know,
- 27:34Speaker 11: even pro basketball didn't take root in Boston really until
- 27:37Speaker 11: you couldn't ignore the Celtics anymore. And of course if
- 27:40Speaker 11: you like both football, you always had the Giants. But
- 27:43Speaker 11: even beyond that, going back to the thirties, you had
- 27:46Speaker 11: good football being played here on Saturday, usually one school,
- 27:50Speaker 11: whether it was b C. Harbord, Northeastern, even Paul and
- 27:54Speaker 11: my Terriers ranked sometimes. Yeah. Well, and there are other
- 28:01Speaker 11: factors like this thing the Globe had for pro football
- 28:04Speaker 11: in the thirties and forties. But I think it's between
- 28:09Speaker 11: the Red Sox, the Bruins and Eastern college football. There
- 28:11Speaker 11: just wasn't much need for a pro football team here
- 28:14Speaker 11: until you got to the late fifties, when you know,
- 28:17Speaker 11: the NFL really took off. Anyway, That's that's how I.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Had Thank you very much, all right, thanks Dan. I'm
- 28:22Speaker 2: not sure the point of that, but no, I mean,
- 28:26Speaker 2: you look at places like Cleveland, all right, they love
- 28:28Speaker 2: their Browns, the Browns they used to be good before
- 28:32Speaker 2: the NFL. But the reason why those fans are so
- 28:37Speaker 2: hard it's a tradition that your father brought you into
- 28:41Speaker 2: and Boston never really had that tradition except for the
- 28:44Speaker 2: Red Sox, you know, and that's you know, the Patriots
- 28:50Speaker 2: weren't even on every Sunday because they were blacked out,
- 28:53Speaker 2: and so everybody watched Giants game and everybody became Giants fans.
- 28:56Speaker 2: You didn't have those traditions in other sports like you
- 29:00Speaker 2: do in Ohio in Texas. But once they started getting good,
- 29:07Speaker 2: like in the seventies, they built hockey rinks because of
- 29:09Speaker 2: Bobby Orr and the Bruins, yep. And then Bird came
- 29:12Speaker 2: around in the eighties. And now things have changed because
- 29:17Speaker 2: we've had a history of some good, good teams. But
- 29:21Speaker 2: back then, like like he's right, there was really no
- 29:24Speaker 2: need for a pro sports interest because there wasn't a
- 29:26Speaker 2: tradition like your dad wasn't watching, so you didn't watch.
- 29:29Speaker 3: Well, it's really the Celtics that what was your guy
- 29:32Speaker 3: Bob Cooseys them drafting Bob Coozy and him being a
- 29:35Speaker 3: Holy Cross guy and you know, being a local kid
- 29:38Speaker 3: like him, and Bill Sharmon like basically put the Celtics
- 29:41Speaker 3: on the map, and then they got Bill Russell and
- 29:43Speaker 3: then it really took off in the sixties. But it
- 29:46Speaker 3: was really the fact that Kozi was a local kid
- 29:49Speaker 3: and went to holy Cross and holy Cross is a
- 29:51Speaker 3: wagon back then in basketball. And then you know, he
- 29:54Speaker 3: went to the Celtics and and that was kind of
- 29:56Speaker 3: what started the Celtics history. I've watched like way too
- 30:00Speaker 3: many Celtics documents.
- 30:02Speaker 5: But yeah, that's right.
- 30:04Speaker 3: That was pretty much what the Celtics would happen. And
- 30:05Speaker 3: then obviously Bill Russell comes and they turned into the
- 30:08Speaker 3: best team of the sixties.
- 30:09Speaker 4: And yeah, it's interesting because that's what happened with the
- 30:12Speaker 4: Patriots and Brady like, even though they had some success
- 30:14Speaker 4: the Patriots seventy six, seventy eight, eighty five, it was
- 30:19Speaker 4: isolated and it wasn't a star superstar players. I mean,
- 30:22Speaker 4: they had some superstars, but you know, like you said,
- 30:24Speaker 4: you're pointing out the players like Bobby Yore and Koozi
- 30:27Speaker 4: and Russell, and it seems like you really need those
- 30:30Speaker 4: superstar players and some sustained success to really get the
- 30:35Speaker 4: Claws in fans.
- 30:36Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 30:36Speaker 2: And I think the other problem with the Patriots was,
- 30:39Speaker 2: like you said, sustained, but the ownership was always never
- 30:42Speaker 2: solid and people really didn't like, am I really going
- 30:46Speaker 2: to get behind this team? Yeah? And then when Robert
- 30:49Speaker 2: when they brought in parcels in ninety three that really helped,
- 30:52Speaker 2: and then Kraft bought it local guy, so people are like, Okay,
- 30:55Speaker 2: I'll buy those season tickets. They're not going anywhere, let's
- 30:59Speaker 2: support them now, and you know the rest is history.
- 31:02Speaker 4: As they said, I mean, Robert gets so much mileage
- 31:04Speaker 4: out of being a former season ticket holder, Like just that,
- 31:07Speaker 4: I think, just make connect with the real fans, and
- 31:10Speaker 4: especially like you said, I was like the crappy fan
- 31:13Speaker 4: experience that everybody had in the eighties, I think was
- 31:16Speaker 4: for me like, well, this guy knows what it's like
- 31:18Speaker 4: to sit on those ice coool bleachers and you know
- 31:21Speaker 4: all that, and he has the fans in mind when
- 31:24Speaker 4: he's starting to build the team, so he's it's been
- 31:27Speaker 4: such a key part of his ownership.
- 31:29Speaker 2: I feel like yep. Steve writes in Hey Fred, not
- 31:34Speaker 2: difficult to notice that you read emails from the same
- 31:36Speaker 2: people all the time. Sick of listening to the same
- 31:40Speaker 2: moron's opinions. Mix it up a little. I don't have
- 31:43Speaker 2: the memory Paul does or the talent you induce do,
- 31:46Speaker 2: but trust me, I could give you all a run
- 31:49Speaker 2: for your money talking sports. Here's an idea one hour
- 31:53Speaker 2: a week. You should have a guest fan appear on
- 31:55Speaker 2: the show, battling Paul for a Patriot's trivia show. Alex
- 31:58Speaker 2: could host lots of fun Steve in the North Country.
- 32:03Speaker 2: I try it, no, I honestly, I try to mix
- 32:06Speaker 2: it up. But if the email's not good, I'm not
- 32:08Speaker 2: going to read it, just because it's somebody I haven't
- 32:10Speaker 2: read an email from.
- 32:12Speaker 13: You know.
- 32:12Speaker 2: So there's certain people I guess that seem to know
- 32:17Speaker 2: what to write that gets my interest. I also like
- 32:19Speaker 2: during the show, if we're having a conversation, I try
- 32:21Speaker 2: to scan if someone's emailing in about what we're talking about.
- 32:25Speaker 2: I try to get that in there. But yeah, I
- 32:28Speaker 2: try to get new people in. But write something good
- 32:30Speaker 2: and I'll read it with good grammar.
- 32:32Speaker 3: It's really hard.
- 32:33Speaker 5: It's really hard to do it.
- 32:35Speaker 3: It's really hard to host the show and mondumails emails
- 32:38Speaker 3: at the same time.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Well, if it's just two of us, I couldn't do it.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Be really hard.
- 32:43Speaker 5: But I can.
- 32:44Speaker 2: While you guys are talking, I can be scanned.
- 32:46Speaker 5: That's what I always tease you. When we're talking about
- 32:48Speaker 5: something and they just say, whatever it is that we
- 32:51Speaker 5: just talked about, and I make fun of you. But
- 32:53Speaker 5: I know why you didn't hear it. It's because you're
- 32:55Speaker 5: reading four or five emails trying to figure out what's
- 32:57Speaker 5: relevant to our conversation, right, I think not an easy
- 32:59Speaker 5: thing to let me.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Think we've all done both these roles.
- 33:01Speaker 4: But it's like, it's so different than to just sit
- 33:03Speaker 4: here and be like, yeah, see us up, Fred, what
- 33:04Speaker 4: do you got?
- 33:05Speaker 1: You know, rather than like, all right, I gotta get
- 33:07Speaker 1: the phones.
- 33:07Speaker 4: I gotta make sure there's no Dalai and then all
- 33:08Speaker 4: of a sudden there's dead air and.
- 33:09Speaker 5: You're like, it's it's not as fun.
- 33:12Speaker 2: So Steve, it's not. I'm not trying to favor anyone,
- 33:15Speaker 2: just so you know. It's just it's just the way
- 33:17Speaker 2: it is. Herms in DC, what's up?
- 33:19Speaker 11: Herm Hey, what's going on?
- 33:22Speaker 13: Gentlemen?
- 33:23Speaker 2: How you doing all right? Hearm?
- 33:27Speaker 13: So two quick questions.
- 33:29Speaker 14: But before I asked my questions, I did want to
- 33:33Speaker 14: give you guys some props, right, because I think nowadays
- 33:36Speaker 14: with sports content is people just.
- 33:40Speaker 11: They make it obvious, right and just chase it clicks
- 33:42Speaker 11: and just.
- 33:43Speaker 13: Saying outrageous stuff.
- 33:44Speaker 3: I never do that.
- 33:46Speaker 14: Please, please do not change the tecreator show just stated
- 33:50Speaker 14: where you are, and just keep them what you're doing.
- 33:55Speaker 14: The first question is, and I Apolgast talk about it
- 33:58Speaker 14: in a show, but why is it that Robert Kraft
- 34:05Speaker 14: is now getting I guess close to being more into
- 34:09Speaker 14: the Hall of Fame? I mean he had what tension,
- 34:11Speaker 14: bold appearances.
- 34:11Speaker 13: It wasn't say.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Well, he's come close before.
- 34:18Speaker 14: Okay, I guess that's moves to me done.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Yeah, No, he's come close before. They just keep changing
- 34:22Speaker 2: the criteria and how they're doing it. And for a
- 34:25Speaker 2: while he had no chance because they mixed in coaches
- 34:28Speaker 2: would seem you know, so it was all mixed up.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Now they've separated again, so now he's got a you know,
- 34:33Speaker 2: a chance to get in again. But I agree herm
- 34:36Speaker 2: when you look at the other owners that have gone in,
- 34:39Speaker 2: he should have been long before this, Pat Bowling, I mean,
- 34:43Speaker 2: come on, yeah, it's it is And I don't know,
- 34:47Speaker 2: but hopefully he gets in this time.
- 34:51Speaker 14: Second quick question, and obviously I don't want to keep
- 34:54Speaker 14: bragging on Tom Kurrm, but if you got to help
- 34:57Speaker 14: me understand why he would have traded down from picking
- 35:04Speaker 14: Drake freaking May intellect.
- 35:08Speaker 2: J J.
- 35:09Speaker 14: McCarthy, Minnesota, Yeahcary nine and that goes back to my
- 35:14Speaker 14: point I made earlier right chasing, just like clicks and
- 35:19Speaker 14: takes right. That's one of the reasons why I got a.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Chance to amend that.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Well, I would just say, and I didn't agree with
- 35:28Speaker 3: him at the time. I don't agree with him now,
- 35:30Speaker 3: but the logic behind it totally sounds there. It was
- 35:34Speaker 3: an argument that we were having at a time like
- 35:36Speaker 3: the Patriots had a ton of holes on their roster.
- 35:39Speaker 3: They needed a lot of different things. So if you
- 35:42Speaker 3: could have added like two first round picks and the
- 35:45Speaker 3: eighth overall pick and then just drafted JJ McCarthy or
- 35:48Speaker 3: Pennix or something like that and get the capital on
- 35:52Speaker 3: top of it, I wouldn't have done it, But I
- 35:55Speaker 3: it wasn't totally would.
- 35:57Speaker 5: Have done it because I didn't really like JJ McCarthy
- 35:59Speaker 5: right exactly. But if JJ McCarthy was what he was
- 36:02Speaker 5: supposed to be, like kind of like a Tom Brady
- 36:05Speaker 5: NFL ready guy who played for Harbaugh in Michigan and
- 36:09Speaker 5: it has a pro background, you know, then it's an argument.
- 36:13Speaker 5: It's a discussion. I liked Drake May from the start,
- 36:16Speaker 5: so I could be like Evan and and Mike and
- 36:19Speaker 5: we could the three of us could go around and
- 36:22Speaker 5: you didn't like we could wait, Yeah, we could wait
- 36:23Speaker 5: about Drake and everybody's face and safe.
- 36:26Speaker 2: We were right, you were right.
- 36:27Speaker 5: No, that's not right.
- 36:28Speaker 2: At the time, I can understand the argument. Absolutely, he's
- 36:31Speaker 2: still saying that he would have done that. No, okay,
- 36:34Speaker 2: that's all I care about. No, No, and I mean it's.
- 36:36Speaker 3: And it's worth saying. At the beginning of the season,
- 36:38Speaker 3: he did say he would take JJ.
- 36:40Speaker 15: After the Raiders game, After the after the first game,
- 36:43Speaker 15: when McCarthy was terrible the whole night and then had
- 36:46Speaker 15: a great fourth quarter, everybody started saying, well, this is
- 36:49Speaker 15: the kind of stuff that McCarthy showed, and blah blah
- 36:51Speaker 15: blah blah blah.
- 36:52Speaker 5: And no, obviously he hasn't done that since, and he's
- 36:54Speaker 5: been hurt. His availabilities is in question. I just I
- 36:59Speaker 5: think too often we look at these now. Is Drake
- 37:02Speaker 5: made the MVP candidate, How could anybody have thought about
- 37:06Speaker 5: trading down from him? I think it was a rational
- 37:10Speaker 5: option at that time. At the time, the guy who's
- 37:13Speaker 5: never played a snap, I didn't I didn't want to
- 37:15Speaker 5: trade down. Evan didn't want to trade down. Mike didn't
- 37:18Speaker 5: want to trade down. We all liked Drake Man.
- 37:20Speaker 3: And most importantly neither de Delliot Wolf and Right And
- 37:25Speaker 3: for all the things that went wrong in the twenty
- 37:27Speaker 3: twenty four season, I don't think he ever wavered from
- 37:30Speaker 3: from sticking and picking Drake May.
- 37:32Speaker 5: And I think that it's easy to sit there and say,
- 37:34Speaker 5: and my boys do it all the time, like we
- 37:36Speaker 5: all was an easy call. He was that they you know,
- 37:38Speaker 5: the third quarterback on the board was available at number three,
- 37:41Speaker 5: you take them. And I would agree with the identify
- 37:44Speaker 5: the identification of May, I would agree with that was
- 37:47Speaker 5: kind of easy and fell in his lap. The question
- 37:49Speaker 5: would have been if May had gone in the top two,
- 37:52Speaker 5: would he have taken one of the other two or not? Right,
- 37:56Speaker 5: But there is definitely a question that Evan just mapped out,
- 38:00Speaker 5: are you better off taking uh, you know, multiple draft
- 38:04Speaker 5: picks and taking one of the other quarterbacks? You know,
- 38:08Speaker 5: what would the Patriots record be if it was if
- 38:10Speaker 5: it was bow knicks?
- 38:12Speaker 13: Oh?
- 38:12Speaker 5: And no, I think I think you can make an
- 38:17Speaker 5: argument that you you would have won you know, seven
- 38:20Speaker 5: or eight games with bow Knicks. I mean the rosters
- 38:23Speaker 5: not well. All apologies to our Denver listeners. Denver has
- 38:28Speaker 5: also one of the easiest schedules in football, which is
- 38:31Speaker 5: the point I was trying to make yesterday. There's a
- 38:34Speaker 5: reason that those teams win so many games. When you
- 38:37Speaker 5: play against a lot of middling teams to bad teams,
- 38:40Speaker 5: you're gonna win more often than not if you play
- 38:43Speaker 5: with good coaching and uh, you know, you find a
- 38:46Speaker 5: way to take advantage of bad football.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I mean wrong opinions.
- 38:52Speaker 4: Now that there were guys like Orlofsky who weren't as
- 38:55Speaker 4: high on May and thought he was going to need
- 38:57Speaker 4: time to develop. And if he really was a guy
- 38:58Speaker 4: that was going to need two years to develop, and
- 39:01Speaker 4: I'm hearing that, then I'm seriously considering.
- 39:03Speaker 5: And Tom Current in particular, again not to you know,
- 39:06Speaker 5: like HERM said, not to make this a Tom Current
- 39:08Speaker 5: bashing session, because I think Tom does a really good job.
- 39:11Speaker 5: Plus I'm a little afraid of him, and I don't
- 39:12Speaker 5: want the head buddy. But with Tom, like he was
- 39:18Speaker 5: a big advocate of they're not ready to take a quarterback.
- 39:22Speaker 5: The roster's not ready, not talented enough around him to
- 39:24Speaker 5: take a quarterback, which I don't another argument that friend,
- 39:28Speaker 5: and I think all of us were against, but there's
- 39:33Speaker 5: logic to that argument. It doesn't mean just because we
- 39:35Speaker 5: don't agree with it doesn't make it wrong. It's a
- 39:37Speaker 5: different way of looking at it. I feel like the
- 39:40Speaker 5: quarterback is the hardest thing to get, it's wrong, and
- 39:42Speaker 5: when you have an opportunity to get it like you
- 39:45Speaker 5: did in that class, I think passing up one of
- 39:48Speaker 5: those six guys, to me, would have been reckless. To
- 39:53Speaker 5: draft Marvin Harrison junr, which a lot of people wanted
- 39:56Speaker 5: to do. You know, Joe Alt another one tremendous player,
- 40:00Speaker 5: Joe Walt, Yeah, right, you know a lot of people
- 40:04Speaker 5: wanted a lot of people do the draft before the
- 40:06Speaker 5: quarterback right where you drafted, draft the players, then get
- 40:09Speaker 5: the quarterback later.
- 40:10Speaker 3: Right, draft Joe Wall, draft this guy, and then in
- 40:12Speaker 3: twenty twenty five, draft the quarterback.
- 40:14Speaker 5: And I think there's a lot of examples of teams
- 40:16Speaker 5: that have tried to do it that way that are
- 40:17Speaker 5: still looking for the quarterback.
- 40:18Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'm not saying this to like Victory Lap,
- 40:20Speaker 3: but I think that the it was very clear to
- 40:23Speaker 3: a lot of people that that quarterback class was really,
- 40:27Speaker 3: really good, and you don't get that every year where
- 40:31Speaker 3: there's three legitimate Like I think that Drake May, Jayden Daniels,
- 40:35Speaker 3: and Caleb would have gone number one overall if they
- 40:37Speaker 3: were in separate drafts, right, Like, if they each were
- 40:40Speaker 3: in three separate drafts, they're probably all three of them
- 40:43Speaker 3: were number one overall pick caliber prospects. And we see that,
- 40:48Speaker 3: you know, last year, I didn't. It wasn't really a
- 40:51Speaker 3: you know, cam Ward goes one overall, but cam Moore
- 40:53Speaker 3: would have been the fourth rated quarterback out of those
- 40:55Speaker 3: three guys. So when you had that opportunity, you just
- 40:58Speaker 3: you had to take it. And I think that was
- 41:01Speaker 3: really the consensus that in the end. But that's why
- 41:04Speaker 3: I want him to win MVP so bad guys much
- 41:06Speaker 3: as I want him to win a Super Bowl too.
- 41:08Speaker 3: Like when you when you evaluate the player, you know
- 41:11Speaker 3: he's good. There wasn't a it wasn't one hundred percent
- 41:15Speaker 3: for everybody that not everybody thought that he was good,
- 41:18Speaker 3: and then he goes and wins an MVP in his
- 41:19Speaker 3: second season, Like that's.
- 41:21Speaker 2: Yeah, all the tools.
- 41:23Speaker 4: I mean, he had all the tools, you know, and
- 41:24Speaker 4: there were some inconsistencies in his game, and I just
- 41:26Speaker 4: think he deserves so much credit for cleaning that stuff
- 41:29Speaker 4: up and you know, not having those game changing turnovers
- 41:31Speaker 4: that the brain farts, and again going back to the
- 41:33Speaker 4: beginning of the season and was like is he progressing?
- 41:36Speaker 4: But then all of a sudden after that loss to
- 41:38Speaker 4: to you know, the week three.
- 41:40Speaker 3: Even fixing the sacks, Like even though the sack.
- 41:44Speaker 5: Rate is going down, it's definitely gone down.
- 41:46Speaker 3: So like now, like first it was turnovers, he has
- 41:48Speaker 3: the Pittsburgh game, gets that out of his system. Then
- 41:51Speaker 3: we make a big deal for a couple of weeks
- 41:53Speaker 3: about how many sacks he's taking, and now all of
- 41:55Speaker 3: a sudden it's been like one or two the last
- 41:57Speaker 3: like two or.
- 41:57Speaker 2: Three Rember, they keeping the eyes downfield game. Yeah.
- 42:01Speaker 4: Well, I mean early in the season too. I think
- 42:02Speaker 4: I remember watching J. T. O'Sullivan and just you know,
- 42:05Speaker 4: talking about his pocket awareness and movement, and I remember
- 42:08Speaker 4: in the early part of this season thinking, is he
- 42:11Speaker 4: can be able to get this right? You know, it's
- 42:13Speaker 4: it's not something that's easy. I just some part of
- 42:15Speaker 4: it feels innate to me. I think Brady was innate
- 42:17Speaker 4: on just knowing where one little step to the left.
- 42:20Speaker 4: And I'm sure we talked about it on the show,
- 42:22Speaker 4: but that to me it's just been remarkable, the stepping
- 42:25Speaker 4: up in the pocket, the little step to the left
- 42:26Speaker 4: and then still firing it, you know, and you still
- 42:28Speaker 4: see moments of little inconsistent but it's not game changing inconsistency.
- 42:32Speaker 4: It's like, oh he had a guy or you know,
- 42:34Speaker 4: if he just stopped, you know, but just so small.
- 42:36Speaker 1: It's it's it's hard to even pick.
- 42:38Speaker 2: The economy of his footwork compared to when he first started,
- 42:41Speaker 2: i mean, the number of steps he has to take
- 42:44Speaker 2: to get out of trouble and just make that move,
- 42:47Speaker 2: compared to last year, where you know.
- 42:49Speaker 4: Remember last year we talked about all the time his footwork.
- 42:51Speaker 4: That was like, i mean a weekly topic on the
- 42:53Speaker 4: Drake May footwork.
- 42:54Speaker 3: You know, just he would drift in the pressure a lot.
- 42:56Speaker 1: Yeah, even drifting the pressure that was the quote.
- 42:58Speaker 5: That was the Yeah.
- 43:00Speaker 3: Now he like he would hitch up into the pocket
- 43:02Speaker 3: too much, so he'd be hitchit chit chit right, is
- 43:05Speaker 3: somebody's lap right. And now he's just you know, really
- 43:09Speaker 3: good at staying back in the pocket. And when you
- 43:12Speaker 3: have that kind of arm talent, you don't need to
- 43:14Speaker 3: like get all the momentum moving forward. You can sit
- 43:17Speaker 3: back a little bit, and he's got that rip through
- 43:20Speaker 3: move now at the ball that is like kind of
- 43:22Speaker 3: become his sickness, skipping.
- 43:23Speaker 1: Ripe, skipping ripe.
- 43:25Speaker 5: I like that came up with that, right, and I
- 43:28Speaker 5: think it perfectly describes what he does.
- 43:30Speaker 13: He did it.
- 43:31Speaker 5: He did it in the Cincinnati game for Hunter Henry's stay.
- 43:34Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 43:35Speaker 5: One one quick thing, you know, talking about the footwork,
- 43:39Speaker 5: Go back and look at week one, his first touchdown
- 43:42Speaker 5: pass of the season to to Mario Douglas in the
- 43:46Speaker 5: end zone and watch his footwork on that play and
- 43:48Speaker 5: see how bad it is. Yeah, and then watch some
- 43:51Speaker 5: of the throws that he's made since. Like something changed,
- 43:56Speaker 5: he just got it.
- 43:59Speaker 2: Evan, will you down playing playing at Denver? How important
- 44:02Speaker 2: it is? I never do that. Oh now, Neil and
- 44:04Speaker 2: Utah thinks you were. Evan is underestimating the impact of
- 44:08Speaker 2: playing at altitude without proper acclimatization.
- 44:11Speaker 3: I think the Patriots should practice on the top of
- 44:13Speaker 3: Mount Washington.
- 44:14Speaker 2: Yeah, pretty cool, not high enough and the deafening crowd noise.
- 44:19Speaker 2: Alex tried to set him straight with the home slash
- 44:23Speaker 2: road splits, but sounds like Evan is not convinced. I'm
- 44:26Speaker 2: not talking about our history there. My first Denver nightmare
- 44:28Speaker 2: was eighty four to two per Flumbo. I'm just looking
- 44:31Speaker 2: at six fact loss. I'm just looking at facts along
- 44:35Speaker 2: with Seattle that is the loudest stadium in the league.
- 44:37Speaker 2: Measurable fact, no incorrect, just forcing fact, just forcing silent
- 44:43Speaker 2: counts is a victory for the Denver pass rush, and
- 44:45Speaker 2: they're almost guaranteed a couple of false starts each game.
- 44:48Speaker 2: And while I understand Evan's confidence and Vrabel to prepare
- 44:52Speaker 2: the team, Vrabel can't change the baron metric pressure. And
- 44:56Speaker 2: you can't acclimatize with an extra day at altitude. For
- 45:00Speaker 2: acclimatization takes weeks, not a day or two. Crowd noise
- 45:05Speaker 2: like crowd noise and altitude measurable advantages. Denver's talent doesn't
- 45:10Speaker 2: scare me, but that environment does.
- 45:12Speaker 3: Okay, So here here's here's a couple of things, and
- 45:14Speaker 3: I guess we're gonna do this, So we'll do it, okay.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Uh.
- 45:18Speaker 3: What I was trying to talk to Alex about, because
- 45:20Speaker 3: you know he he's with the emailer, and what I
- 45:23Speaker 3: was trying to tell Alex was like, maybe you guys
- 45:26Speaker 3: disagree like he did, is Denver's record at home really
- 45:32Speaker 3: good because Denver's had some really good runs as a team.
- 45:36Speaker 3: Or is it really good because they're they play at
- 45:38Speaker 3: five and eighty feet? Like were they hard to play
- 45:43Speaker 3: because John Elway was their quarterback and Peyton Manning was
- 45:46Speaker 3: their quarterback for a period of time?
- 45:49Speaker 5: Or were about or were they? And maybe Danny canell
- 45:53Speaker 5: is at your larger point because when you look at
- 45:57Speaker 5: like the Paige the home records in the NFL since
- 46:00Speaker 5: two thousand, the New England Patriots have the number one
- 46:03Speaker 5: record in the league since two thousand because Tom Brady
- 46:06Speaker 5: played here for twenty years.
- 46:08Speaker 3: I love ji Lett Stadium. Is it this great home
- 46:10Speaker 3: field advantage?
- 46:11Speaker 5: Not a tough place to play?
- 46:12Speaker 3: Right, It's just because the team was really good? And me,
- 46:16Speaker 3: I'm not saying that I necessarily like, I'm not trying
- 46:19Speaker 3: to say that it has zero impact. I'm just saying,
- 46:22Speaker 3: is this like it's a correlation versus causation thing, Like
- 46:27Speaker 3: is it hard to play in Denver because of the altitude?
- 46:30Speaker 3: Or is it hard to play in Denver because Denver's
- 46:33Speaker 3: had some good teams and a great quarterbacks.
- 46:35Speaker 5: I would agree with your Lodger point, And I think
- 46:39Speaker 5: Belichick used to spout that a lot, like, you know,
- 46:41Speaker 5: what makes them tough to play? There is and he
- 46:44Speaker 5: would rattle off the names at the time.
- 46:45Speaker 2: Whatever they were.
- 46:48Speaker 5: I would say that, would you admit that Denver is
- 46:52Speaker 5: a you know, maybe they're a good team right now?
- 46:54Speaker 5: Like I'm not calling them great, I'm just saying, you know,
- 46:57Speaker 5: they've won a lot of games, they're good. So I
- 47:00Speaker 5: do think that that environment and that oddity of their
- 47:04Speaker 5: altitude makes them a little better in that building.
- 47:07Speaker 2: It helps.
- 47:07Speaker 3: I would also it makes a good team, maybe very good.
- 47:10Speaker 3: The other thing that I would just say, like to me,
- 47:13Speaker 3: altitude is an element. Right, It's like coming here in
- 47:20Speaker 3: January and it's snowing Miami early in the season. It's
- 47:24Speaker 3: Miami early in the season, so to me, and this
- 47:28Speaker 3: happened for twenty years where a Chargers team would come
- 47:32Speaker 3: here and they'd freeze their butts off. What was is
- 47:36Speaker 3: they couldn't play in the col So if the Patriots
- 47:38Speaker 3: go to Denver and they lose and the excuse is
- 47:41Speaker 3: that they couldn't breathe because of the altitude, I'm going
- 47:44Speaker 3: to say that's an excuse. Oh yeah, I don't right
- 47:46Speaker 3: like that, that's not, but it's a reason.
- 47:48Speaker 2: But it is just a little thing in their favor.
- 47:50Speaker 2: I mean, like, sure, you know Miami wears white when
- 47:53Speaker 2: they play down there because of the sun.
- 47:55Speaker 5: Sam, is that what you do that?
- 47:57Speaker 2: Because okay, why not do it?
- 47:59Speaker 3: Exactly?
- 47:59Speaker 11: Why not?
- 47:59Speaker 3: But my point is that it's nothing more than just that. Yeah, right,
- 48:03Speaker 3: you know, it's Miami's heat in September, it's our winters.
- 48:07Speaker 3: It's Buffalo's wind in winter, right, like it's not.
- 48:10Speaker 5: It's an element. Winter has helped us win even in
- 48:13Speaker 5: the heart of like like the Brady dominance.
- 48:15Speaker 4: Putting, the putting the temperature up, you know, like that
- 48:19Speaker 4: stuff like ac game against Peyton Manning when he's you know,
- 48:24Speaker 4: in d coming here as a weather team was a factor.
- 48:26Speaker 3: It's a factor. I'm just saying that. I think that
- 48:29Speaker 3: the players in the and the the teams on the
- 48:31Speaker 3: field and who had who's better that day at football
- 48:35Speaker 3: is more of a factor than than mile hot.
- 48:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:40Speaker 3: The Patriots are.
- 48:40Speaker 4: Three and oh in Denver since the twenty fifteen AFC
- 48:43Speaker 4: Championship Game.
- 48:44Speaker 5: So okay, now they both started four and seven with
- 48:48Speaker 5: Brady and Belichick.
- 48:50Speaker 1: Yeah, well, without Brady they're one and one.
- 48:54Speaker 5: No, they're one and ow yeah, they'd they'd bed the
- 48:58Speaker 5: Chad Ryland field goal.
- 49:00Speaker 3: That everybody is still pissing. So that's the other element
- 49:04Speaker 3: to this that I'm not gonna lie to you like
- 49:05Speaker 3: I was at that game run when Bailey ZAPPI beat Denver.
- 49:10Speaker 3: Bailey Zappy can beat Denver in Denver, and he can
- 49:13Speaker 3: and he can survive the altitude, and.
- 49:15Speaker 5: I want to you that was a terrible Denver team
- 49:17Speaker 5: and a terrible Patriots totally right.
- 49:21Speaker 2: All right, we're gonna take a break. Lots of emails,

- 51:30Speaker 19: Christian, how good was it to start the way you
- 51:32Speaker 19: guys started? How much talk was that going into this
- 51:34Speaker 19: game about getting off to a fast star You just
- 51:38Speaker 19: certainly showed a lot of energy from the beginning of
- 51:40Speaker 19: the game.
- 51:41Speaker 4: Yeah, it was.
- 51:41Speaker 9: It was.
- 51:42Speaker 20: It was good to get out there and get a
- 51:43Speaker 20: get ahead of them quick and then be able to
- 51:46Speaker 20: play from from ahead. I mean that's always good. You know,
- 51:51Speaker 20: Shout out to the offense, Shout out to Marcus. You
- 51:54Speaker 20: know that that always sparks a lot of momentum. I
- 51:57Speaker 20: think each game he's he's returned to touchdown. That sparked,
- 52:00Speaker 20: you know, offense and defense. So that's that's a big
- 52:05Speaker 20: part of a weapon we have. So I mean, as
- 52:08Speaker 20: a defense is always either get the ball to Drake
- 52:10Speaker 20: or get the ball to to Marcus. So you know,
- 52:15Speaker 20: it was it was a good win, good good way
- 52:17Speaker 20: to come out fast. And finish the game.
- 52:22Speaker 21: Christian, how would you describe the impact that Marcus has
- 52:25Speaker 21: on the team. I mean we saw it out on
- 52:27Speaker 21: the field, but even going into the locker.
- 52:29Speaker 2: Room as well.
- 52:30Speaker 9: Yeah, for sure, he was voted captain for a reason.
- 52:34Speaker 9: He has a voice and he uses it.
- 52:37Speaker 20: You know, everybody, you know, we look to him, you know,
- 52:40Speaker 20: especially in the secondary, we're kind of all, you know,
- 52:42Speaker 20: we're real close in the secondary. So he plays a
- 52:46Speaker 20: big role. Being Nickel, He's got to travel around, he's
- 52:49Speaker 20: got to do a lot of things. A lot of
- 52:51Speaker 20: things are are you know, on your plate while you're
- 52:54Speaker 20: playing Nickels. So but I mean he handles it amazing.
- 52:57Speaker 20: And you know, being in the locker room, he's one
- 53:01Speaker 20: of the most energetic guys in there. At eight in
- 53:04Speaker 20: the morning, he's in there smiling, laughing, joking. Sometimes I
- 53:07Speaker 20: gotta tell him, all right, Mark, you got to calm
- 53:09Speaker 20: down a little bit. But no, he's he's amazing. So
- 53:13Speaker 20: it's awesome, you know, him being in the in the
- 53:16Speaker 20: back seven for sure, hand on the team.
- 53:19Speaker 22: Hey, Christian, you guys established a physical tone right from
- 53:23Speaker 22: the outset of the game, but there was a period
- 53:25Speaker 22: of time when emotions started to spill over a little bit,
- 53:29Speaker 22: some extra pushing and shoving. There was personal fall in
- 53:32Speaker 22: the giants still on the sideline. What was Mike Vrabel's
- 53:34Speaker 22: message to you guys in those moments tonight or the
- 53:41Speaker 22: or the message in general in terms of keeping your
- 53:45Speaker 22: composure as opposed to losing it?
- 53:48Speaker 9: Yeah, for sure. I mean it's football. Things like that
- 53:50Speaker 9: are going to happen.
- 53:52Speaker 20: You know, everybody on the field is super competitive at
- 53:54Speaker 20: what we do, and like I said, things like that
- 53:56Speaker 20: are going to happen.
- 53:57Speaker 9: And it's just you know, if if they get you,
- 54:00Speaker 9: you know, you feel like it's late.
- 54:03Speaker 20: Just you know, he always tells us, don't retaliate, then
- 54:06Speaker 20: just get them the next play, you know, take.
- 54:08Speaker 9: It out on them when you it's legal and you're
- 54:10Speaker 9: able to do it.
- 54:11Speaker 20: So I mean he's got they've got as well coached
- 54:15Speaker 20: too to play within the white and the whistles.
- 54:19Speaker 19: So yeah, Christian, Mike has been wanting his quarterbacks to
- 54:24Speaker 19: be careful going out, you know, along the sideline there
- 54:27Speaker 19: because you're in play. What did that hit from Christian
- 54:30Speaker 19: do for you guys as far as emotion goes to
- 54:32Speaker 19: get you guys?
- 54:33Speaker 20: Kind of going a little bit more Oh yeah, that
- 54:35Speaker 20: that sparks some energy, especially on their sideline. It was
- 54:39Speaker 20: it was a good hit, clean legal hit. So I mean,
- 54:43Speaker 20: you know, we just can never relax on the football field.
- 54:46Speaker 20: So but Ellis was able to you know, go over
- 54:48Speaker 20: there and make a play and you know, they retaliated
- 54:52Speaker 20: and it helped us even more so spark momentum. And
- 54:57Speaker 20: it's always fun, you know, being on defense that that
- 55:00Speaker 20: you know, you got linebackers that are going to go
- 55:01Speaker 20: up and hit like that.
- 55:06Speaker 21: Just after what you went through the last two seasons
- 55:08Speaker 21: wins and losses wise, how what is this experience like
- 55:13Speaker 21: and and why like why is it happening from your
- 55:16Speaker 21: view that the team has happened so much success.
- 55:19Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean I think a lot of it goes
- 55:21Speaker 9: to just this. This team is so close.
- 55:26Speaker 20: I mean I've spoke about it from the time Phrase
- 55:30Speaker 20: came in and sat us down in here and told
- 55:33Speaker 20: us he's going to build a you know, we're gonna
- 55:35Speaker 20: build a connection. We're gonna build connections and you know,
- 55:37Speaker 20: get close as a team. You know, we we got
- 55:41Speaker 20: real close. And I mean it's just able to help
- 55:43Speaker 20: us out on Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays whenever it is and
- 55:48Speaker 20: our identity just being out there, go play physical and
- 55:53Speaker 20: just as a team, go out there have fun.
- 55:55Speaker 9: I mean, at the end of the day, you know,
- 55:56Speaker 9: we get to.
- 55:57Speaker 20: Play a kids game for for work, so just you know,
- 56:01Speaker 20: going out there with that joy. You know, he always
- 56:02Speaker 20: preaches go play with that joy and that that you know,
- 56:07Speaker 20: that fun you had as a little kid. So it's
- 56:10Speaker 20: been amazing, but you know, we gotta keep going.
- 56:13Speaker 9: Appreciate you.
- 56:22Speaker 3: And now great moments in.
- 56:27Speaker 2: History.
- 56:27Speaker 5: I'd rather be Damien Harris than Jake Bailey.
- 56:30Speaker 2: Damien Harris are barely dressed for games.
- 56:33Speaker 5: I'd rather be Haave. He's a player, he's a football player,
- 56:36Speaker 5: but he doesn't play. I don't care. I'm not a punter.
- 56:40Speaker 5: I'm not the you know, everybody a ring. But he
- 56:46Speaker 5: asked me which one i'd rather be. I would take
- 56:47Speaker 5: you one. If I had, you know, to choose between
- 56:50Speaker 5: what I'm doing now with you morons, I'd be the punter.
- 56:56Speaker 5: But if I choose between being a real player and
- 56:59Speaker 5: a specialist.
- 56:59Speaker 2: Plus being the running back for even just ten plays
- 57:02Speaker 2: hurts a lot more.
- 57:03Speaker 5: Oh yeah, what do you want?
- 57:07Speaker 2: What do you.
- 57:09Speaker 5: No sacrifice?
- 57:10Speaker 2: No pain?
- 57:11Speaker 5: Oh yeah, you're just playing.
- 57:12Speaker 2: All the sudden Son Paul's newt Rockney over here with
- 57:16Speaker 2: the sacrifice.
- 57:17Speaker 5: That's another great moment, all.
- 57:22Speaker 2: Right back here and Patriots Unfilterday five to five past
- 57:24Speaker 2: five hundred is the hotline podcast at Patriots dot com
- 57:28Speaker 2: is the email address. Speaking of emails, Ramon and Tampa says,
- 57:31Speaker 2: I've been wanting to say this a while, but it's
- 57:34Speaker 2: really hard to write emails. I've learned a lot and
- 57:36Speaker 2: improved my writing based on my own and other person's
- 57:39Speaker 2: email experience. I've seen emails fail because there wasn't a
- 57:43Speaker 2: clear subject without muddled interpretation. Then there is grammatical eras,
- 57:47Speaker 2: bad subjects, inappropriate lengths, plus many other factors. So thanks
- 57:51Speaker 2: for helping us improve our writing. For those that still
- 57:54Speaker 2: feel intimidated, just take the cruise chiding as positive coaching,
- 57:59Speaker 2: good friends, and I'm glad we could help.
- 58:01Speaker 4: I think like stops mid email with exasperation about I
- 58:06Speaker 4: don't know what he's saying punctuation please, Like, I'm trying
- 58:09Speaker 4: to reward you for emailing and then you know I
- 58:13Speaker 4: didn't have a chance to prove for it it ahead
- 58:15Speaker 4: of time and you screwed me. Well, that goes back
- 58:19Speaker 4: to the that goes back to the hosting thing when
- 58:21Speaker 4: you hit like a lull and you're like, oh crap,
- 58:23Speaker 4: and I'm just going to jump in on an email
- 58:24Speaker 4: and then you realize you're on like a total turn
- 58:26Speaker 4: of an email.
- 58:28Speaker 5: I can't believe that.
- 58:29Speaker 2: So help me out, help me help you. Dominic's in
- 58:33Speaker 2: New York on the hotline. What's up, Dominic? Dominic? Oh,
- 58:38Speaker 2: I know I'm holding on for a while, but you
- 58:40Speaker 2: know that's the way it is. You must persevere. Jason's
- 58:44Speaker 2: in Canada, what's up, Jason?
- 58:47Speaker 16: Hi, guys, thanks for taking my call. Sure, first time,
- 58:52Speaker 16: long time. I have a little pretend kind of question
- 58:57Speaker 16: for everyone except.
- 58:58Speaker 2: For having Could.
- 59:02Speaker 16: Michael want you, guys to pretend that you're the owner
- 59:06Speaker 16: of the Patriots and you're very hands off the team.
- 59:11Speaker 16: You're just the money. And Mike Frabele comes up to
- 59:14Speaker 16: you and says, I need thirty plus million dollars to
- 59:17Speaker 16: sign Christian Gunzalis. So you go back and watch the
- 59:22Speaker 16: film this year. What's your response there?
- 59:26Speaker 2: You go, I think I would do it.
- 59:27Speaker 3: Yeah, Well, why can't I answer because I'm caring that
- 59:32Speaker 3: you know too much?
- 59:33Speaker 16: Somehow he's managed to cover every receiver on every play.
- 59:38Speaker 13: All the time.
- 59:39Speaker 3: Oh okay, yeah, seemed like a shot. I didn't really
- 59:43Speaker 3: understand that, but okay, So.
- 59:44Speaker 2: Jason, is there a sort of reason why you're asking
- 59:47Speaker 2: because you thought that maybe we would say no, don't
- 59:50Speaker 2: do it, or do you not think you should do it?
- 59:54Speaker 16: Just watching more games this year, he doesn't strike me
- 59:58Speaker 16: as a top tier thirty million dollar corner. He's making
- 1:00:02Speaker 16: all the tackles, but he's also letting them catch every
- 1:00:05Speaker 16: pass first every pass.
- 1:00:08Speaker 13: Well, I think.
- 1:00:10Speaker 23: That's that's good this year.
- 1:00:12Speaker 16: I find that he has been in years prior.
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: I think you've been a little I think you're being
- 1:00:18Speaker 5: a little hard on Gonzales. And I would probably say
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: on this show, I'm probably the least enthusiastic when it
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: comes to Gonzales, and I would say he's a terrific player.
- 1:00:29Speaker 5: But to say that he gives up and catch every
- 1:00:32Speaker 5: time it just makes the tackle, I don't think that
- 1:00:34Speaker 5: that's accurate.
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: And then how many times the quarterbacks not throw his
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: way because he's gone.
- 1:00:38Speaker 5: I think he gets targeted really infrequently, and I have
- 1:00:41Speaker 5: to think that's at least part of what Fred's talking about.
- 1:00:44Speaker 5: So what if I told you that I told you
- 1:00:47Speaker 5: I'm not supposed to answer, but thirty what if I
- 1:00:49Speaker 5: told you that his completion rate into his coverage is
- 1:00:52Speaker 5: lower this year than it was last year. Yeah. I
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: don't think that they've thrown at him a tremendous amount
- 1:00:58Speaker 5: this year. Yeah, you know, just volume wise. I don't
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: see him around the ball a lot this year.
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: I do think that the system adjustment has been an adjustment,
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: and I would agree with Jason that they play a
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: lot more zone now than they have in the past.
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: And I don't know if he's a great.
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: Okay, okay, sung a play a little devil's advocate here?
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: Do you play somebody? Do you pay somebody over thirty
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: million dollars based on that?
- 1:01:29Speaker 5: Yeah? I would so. I think he's one of the
- 1:01:31Speaker 5: best corners in football.
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: I agree, and but I think that the tiny weeny
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: bit concern is if this is the system that they're
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: going to play, and you want zone corners that have
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: instincts in ballhawking ability, that tackle, well, like, it's just
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: not it's not exactly his style of play now.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: I do think he's at a tackling I think.
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: To its repertoire, he seems to be catching on to
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: Paul he's been really good tackling.
- 1:01:58Speaker 5: This one specific tackle that he he's excellent. Ad we
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: saw it Monday night when the guy catches the ball
- 1:02:03Speaker 5: and he's not and no one knows he's there and boom.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: I disagree.
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: Marcus Jones is a really good tackle, right, that's a
- 1:02:10Speaker 5: defensive back.
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: Can be true. Both can be true. They're both good tacklers.
- 1:02:13Speaker 5: I don't think that Gonzales is a really tackle. I
- 1:02:16Speaker 5: think he dives at ankles and uses and rolls his
- 1:02:19Speaker 5: shoulder over backwards.
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: I don't care how he does it.
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: He gets them down, not generally the guy for the
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: touchdown he was involved in that the other day.
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: I think that that's the question, is you know he's
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: an excellent player?
- 1:02:32Speaker 5: I agree?
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: Is he this style of corner that they truly in
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: their heart of hearts want And if he's not, are
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: you going to still pay that guy thirty million dollars
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: a year to be a little bit of a round
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: peg in a square hole.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: You can play zone and still have you can play
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: what they call man zone. You can have a guy
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: I like this, you know, taking taking on their best
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: receiver and still play zone.
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: So nowadays in the league, you don't see a whole
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: lot of spot drop zone because quarterbacks are there too good,
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: So you don't see a whole lot of just we're
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: taking an area, country, spot drop, whatever you want to
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: call it. Traditional zone coverage. Most coverages in zone now
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: has some sort of match principles because it's just these
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: offenses and these quarterbacks are just too sophisticated and they're
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: too good to just play traditional zone. So there is
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: that element like when you're on the outside, like it
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: might be Cover three and it might be zone, but
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: you're man to man on your guy, right. But I
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: think the difference with this defense is it's a lot
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: more a disguised zone, like they like to spin the
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: dial in zone coverage, mix up one high, two high looks,
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: things like that. And I could see between that and
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: the fact that I agree with Paul he's not the
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: most physical corner. That's the devil's advocate, you know. Argument.
- 1:03:55Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I would say, and if we can
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: go back to and I know you'll remember when Stefan
- 1:04:02Speaker 5: Gilmore first got here.
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: Yes, yep, I've talked about this a lot on cakeshwink.
- 1:04:06Speaker 5: Oh okay, yeah, so yeah, I don't I don't have
- 1:04:09Speaker 5: to repeat it, just I think they played a lot
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: of zones early on and he didn't look great, and
- 1:04:14Speaker 5: they sort of got back to I kind of in
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: the back of my mind think there's going to be
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: some changes defensively, you know, more consistently when these games
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: become more and more important as we get down the stretch.
- 1:04:25Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: So the Buffalo game in we five, I'm sorry. So
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: they played forty percent man against Buffalo in Week five,
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: and that was the first kind of like, Okay, what's
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: your playoff game plan? Like this is a big game.
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: It's Sunday night football against the division rival, Like what
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: are you going to do? And what they did was
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: they manned up right, they played man to man and
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: that Gonzales was back.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: And was that also to make sure they had the
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: run taken care of?
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: Maybe, but I think it was more that they knew
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: that Buffalo's receivers were limited and they thought they had
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: a clear advantage with their their corners are better than
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: Buffalo's receivers because it.
- 1:04:58Speaker 5: Can be a little counterintuitive to pay a lot of
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: man against Josh Allen. So they obviously felt coverage wise,
- 1:05:06Speaker 5: I agree with with Evan. I think they felt like
- 1:05:08Speaker 5: that was a big game and they used kind of
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: a different wrinkle.
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I enjoyed listening Evan talking because I think this
- 1:05:13Speaker 4: is a point, a debate point that's coming and I've
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: been wondering about it, and you know, I would also
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: clear it up for you now, not cleared up, but
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: there the tip of the is he the aggressive, you know,
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: like does his personality work against him?
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: And like I still err on the side of what
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Evan got.
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: The point I was going to make was when you
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: get to the like caller, wait until you get into
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: the good games and the teams that you need to
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: be able to man up. You're gonna want a guy
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: with elite athletic talent that can man up guys. But
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: I do think that this is like a debate that
- 1:05:44Speaker 4: we're going to talk about, are you going to fork
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: over a boatload if there are some things that you
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: don't love it?
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: And also are we seeing Gonzales said is one hundred
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: percent right now? Like is this hamstring kind of nagging him?
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: I mean I've seen no sign to say that is
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: the case. But I think everything evn't said with the
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: more zone, you know, the just the playing temperament, and
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: I do think he's improved his tackling, But at the
- 1:06:09Speaker 4: same time, I just don't think that.
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: I don't think that you don't sign a guy that
- 1:06:17Speaker 5: you think is one of the better players in his position. Yeah,
- 1:06:20Speaker 5: I just don't think that's good practice.
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: I also think that you land on an elite corner,
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: and you know, I would like to think that in
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: the off season and this season, I think it's obviously
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: gone way better than anybody could have expected. But this
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: is more about like setting the foundation of the program
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: and getting this thing up and running. I think that
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: they could probably be more man heavy and be better
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: in man coverage with Davis and Gonzo and Marcus Jones.
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: So I wonder if in the off season, you know,
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: does Zach Korr get in the lab with somebody that's
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: really a man background, and like, do they try to
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: find ways better ways to cover in man to man
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: Because I've had my gripes with the way that they've
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: done it, and so I wonder if maybe they you know,
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: get better at it, you know, in the off season
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: and they kind of I mean, it's schooled a little bit.
- 1:07:10Speaker 5: What are we talking about, like just you know, off
- 1:07:12Speaker 5: the top of our head, there's no research here. But
- 1:07:14Speaker 5: like you know, Ctan Stingly, you know, I don't know
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: if Sauce is still in that echelon. I think he's
- 1:07:21Speaker 5: kind of slipped, you know, recently. I don't know Terrell
- 1:07:26Speaker 5: in Atlanta, AJ Terrell J C. Horns pretty good in Carolina.
- 1:07:31Speaker 5: Like where else are we looking like for a guy
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: that that you think you feel better about that guy
- 1:07:38Speaker 5: than Gonzales.
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: I think you're the only two that have the case.
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: Are Stingly in certain is the best corner.
- 1:07:44Speaker 5: So I don't. I don't, and I'll never understand this.
- 1:07:47Speaker 5: For as long as I do this, I'll never understand
- 1:07:50Speaker 5: why fans ever look at it from a money perspective.
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: I understand obviously why teams do, but I never understand
- 1:08:00Speaker 5: why fans will look at it and say, I don't
- 1:08:02Speaker 5: want to pay that guy thirty million. Why you think
- 1:08:06Speaker 5: he's one of the best five players in the league
- 1:08:08Speaker 5: at his position? And I think five is conservative. As
- 1:08:10Speaker 5: Evan just said, He's goingly get two, right, So one
- 1:08:14Speaker 5: of the five best players in the position, you got
- 1:08:16Speaker 5: to pay him the going rate. That's the going rate. Now,
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: I can understand. I don't want to pay just to
- 1:08:23Speaker 5: throw a guy out there toua as a top ten
- 1:08:26Speaker 5: quarterback in the league, because I don't think he's a
- 1:08:28Speaker 5: top ten quarterback. You know, it's not about the money,
- 1:08:32Speaker 5: it's I don't think he's that good. I do think
- 1:08:34Speaker 5: Gonzalez is that good. I think he's one of the
- 1:08:37Speaker 5: best in the game at his spot. So I'm going
- 1:08:41Speaker 5: to pay for that. I want to pay for that.
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: Yeah, So I'd also highlight two thousand and eight to
- 1:08:46Speaker 4: midway through twenty twelve is a cautionary tale. When this
- 1:08:49Speaker 4: was the approach was, let's focus on the front seven.
- 1:08:52Speaker 4: We can just get guys like Tyrone Wheatley to play
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: zone corner.
- 1:08:55Speaker 5: And you know those I could player that hits at
- 1:08:58Speaker 5: corner right and you and will hire and so then
- 1:09:00Speaker 5: in what happens in twenty twelve, they say, hey, we
- 1:09:03Speaker 5: got to be able to manage Julian Edelmans go and
- 1:09:05Speaker 5: get a keep to leave, and then it's to leap leaves,
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: you go get revis. They went from Salem to t
- 1:09:10Speaker 5: Leab with a black hole of wasted possibilities at cornerback, yep,
- 1:09:15Speaker 5: because they didn't have anybody who could cover the bottomatic.
- 1:09:18Speaker 5: No matter how great Brady was at some point the
- 1:09:22Speaker 5: other team outscored them and they went home.
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: Yeah, that that's I mean, when you play the league quarterbacks,
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: you can't just sit in zone coverage there. And if
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: you try to play a league quarterbacks in disguise, like
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: they don't care about the disguises, the disguises isn't going
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: to throw off Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen in a
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: playoff game, It's not gonna matter. Yeah, So, like if
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: you're gonna you have to play man to man because
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: usually with man like it's more about can the receivers
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: get open at that point than it is about like
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: can the quarterback read it out and like find the
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: open guy. Yeah, So I mean that that's we'll see.
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: That wait on the playoffs.
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: Like it's it's a really good I mean, I'm glad, great, great,
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: great question, Jason.
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: This is something I've been thinking about.
- 1:09:59Speaker 4: But let's wait till after playoffs and see how they
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: use Gonzalez and what Gonzalez does in the playoffs, because.
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: I think that's where it might have a difference. You
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: see his true value.
- 1:10:08Speaker 5: And I would say to Jason, I'm not blind. I
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: think there's a chance that they don't resign them portrade them. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:10:17Speaker 5: I mean I think that. Yeah, like he doesn't get
- 1:10:19Speaker 5: the extension that he's going to be eligible for for
- 1:10:22Speaker 5: the first time, will be in this offseason, and I
- 1:10:26Speaker 5: wouldn't be and it is I think I'd be disappointed,
- 1:10:28Speaker 5: but I wouldn't be stunned by it.
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: It's just the fifth year option, year two they got
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: to decide on.
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: Ye.
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: Yeah, but it just it does seem like their defense
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: is built from the inside out. Like it feels like
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: they they like, what's more d line, you know, linebacker,
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: Like that's really where they want to build it in
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: the front.
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: What's more likely they pay him probably at that time
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: the most any corner makes in the NFL, or they
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: franchise him. Oh ah.
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: I mean it's interesting.
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: It's just how does this regime approach those kind of things,
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: you know. I Mean there's part of me they've been
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: very aggressive with, you know, trying to sign big name,
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: talented guys to big deals.
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: So I wouldn't be surprised if they did the connect cash.
- 1:11:10Speaker 5: Yeah, the extension would be the more likely thing they
- 1:11:12Speaker 5: ain't going to get to franchise because he'll if they
- 1:11:14Speaker 5: don't sign him for three years. Like he's out.
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: It's Michael Parsons.
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: Yeah, he's out.
- 1:11:20Speaker 5: He's not going to sit around for two full seasons
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: and then get franchised in the third season. He's not
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: going to do that quiet I mean he'll do it quietly, Yeah,
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: but he'll be bitching about it.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: But is there any I mean, this is a money question,
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: but is there consideration?
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: You got Drake coming up too, and he's probably gonna
- 1:11:35Speaker 4: be the highest paid quarterback in the league.
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: It's all part of it. But like I think he
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: can have both.
- 1:11:39Speaker 5: Yeah, thanks Fred, you know, see that's one thing that
- 1:11:43Speaker 5: we've come to I think he can have come to agree.
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: To wear that.
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: You can definitely have balls. But it is part of it.
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: As Felger says, give me a nap and I'll show
- 1:11:50Speaker 5: you how.
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: I mean, I'm talking about a sixty million dollars a
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: year quarterback.
- 1:11:55Speaker 5: Yeah, he's going to be he's going to be one
- 1:11:57Speaker 5: one of the Yeah, he's going to be one of
- 1:11:58Speaker 5: the highest paid quarterbacks. And Gonzale is gonna be one
- 1:12:01Speaker 5: of the highest paid cornerbacks. So that's why I will
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: not be stunned.
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: Who is amazing agent.
- 1:12:09Speaker 9: We know.
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: I do, but I do you know you're not telling no,
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: you can't think of it. Yeah, I can't think of
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: it because I can hear you know Lass down well,
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: you know when Tom bra stopped. Stop. We're not taking
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: that deal. U. Let's go back to the phones. Christians
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: in l A. What's up Christian?
- 1:12:32Speaker 12: Hey you guys happy Wednesday?
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: Wednesday?
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:12:37Speaker 5: Like everybody else?
- 1:12:41Speaker 12: No, not like I never like anybody else.
- 1:12:44Speaker 5: Drake A sorry Christian. That's my faulty.
- 1:12:48Speaker 12: I could be I got I got to two points,
- 1:12:51Speaker 12: and then I want to play a roundup group and
- 1:12:55Speaker 12: try to get.
- 1:12:56Speaker 5: Paul on three stumped the stumped the grump.
- 1:13:00Speaker 7: Hey, I'm in okay, So first first before stuffed the
- 1:13:03Speaker 7: grump to two points, I think we have to get
- 1:13:07Speaker 7: some sort of delated flowers to Gerard Mayo.
- 1:13:11Speaker 12: And and Milt Milton. What what was our Joe Milton
- 1:13:16Speaker 12: last year? I think if g Mayo does not decide
- 1:13:19Speaker 12: to go for the win and Joe Milton does not
- 1:13:22Speaker 12: decide to play his best game and and win, we
- 1:13:25Speaker 12: get the number one pick. And I just do not
- 1:13:27Speaker 12: think we would have picked Drake may at the number
- 1:13:30Speaker 12: one spot. Ruminate on that.
- 1:13:37Speaker 5: May did not get drafted in that draft. Will Campbell
- 1:13:39Speaker 5: did Will Campbell?
- 1:13:41Speaker 12: I'm sorry, I mean, if we get the number one pick.
- 1:13:43Speaker 13: I don't think we picked Will Campbell as the.
- 1:13:46Speaker 12: Number one pick, but I think we have a full
- 1:13:47Speaker 12: different sort of lineup on the team.
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: I don't think they would have picked number one overall.
- 1:13:52Speaker 5: I mean that that's possible.
- 1:13:54Speaker 13: You would have traded.
- 1:13:55Speaker 5: They might have and they might have been able to
- 1:13:57Speaker 5: trade down get more picks and gotten Will Campbell.
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: Yep and others.
- 1:14:02Speaker 5: That's what I'm saying, got more picks and Will Campbell
- 1:14:05Speaker 5: or like, I mean, you could have picked somebody else. Yeah,
- 1:14:08Speaker 5: maybe you got on Membu later on down the road.
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: And so what are we saying here?
- 1:14:14Speaker 12: So now, I just wanted to get the mails some
- 1:14:18Speaker 12: flowers for trying to win and not giving us that
- 1:14:21Speaker 12: number one pick. But Will Campbell, who knows that you
- 1:14:23Speaker 12: would have picked them?
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: Drum mail?
- 1:14:26Speaker 5: The number one pick would have been valuable. It's not
- 1:14:30Speaker 5: a good thing. It's not a good thing that they
- 1:14:31Speaker 5: didn't get the number one pick. Well, it never is,
- 1:14:35Speaker 5: all right, So we agree on that, all right, stump
- 1:14:38Speaker 5: the group. Sorry, but I'm sorry.
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: Saying Drake may the wrong draft.
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: People complain.
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: Christian remains one of those things that's inexplicable. How many
- 1:14:50Speaker 5: people you know, I'm not This is not picking up
- 1:14:52Speaker 5: Christian because he's one of a lot who have confused
- 1:14:56Speaker 5: those two years. I don't know how.
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: Because we blurred them all out.
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: Yeah, ms in North Carolina, Hey, Sammy.
- 1:15:05Speaker 13: Yesterday was a good stuff.
- 1:15:07Speaker 9: Edmond came in.
- 1:15:07Speaker 13: He made it a great show. He really got me
- 1:15:09Speaker 13: fired up.
- 1:15:11Speaker 5: Passion yesterday.
- 1:15:13Speaker 13: You know what I mean, don't We don't make the
- 1:15:14Speaker 13: schedule right now. I can tell you the fourteen games
- 1:15:17Speaker 13: we're going to play next year, and then the rest
- 1:15:20Speaker 13: of them fall in place. We earned this last place
- 1:15:22Speaker 13: schedule and we're kicking everybody's boat. Milton game away from
- 1:15:27Speaker 13: the noteboin n next year, we're playing the e f
- 1:15:32Speaker 13: C West in the NFC North. I can guarantee you
- 1:15:36Speaker 13: can go boot that. And then we played six games
- 1:15:38Speaker 13: in the AFC East. Obviously, like it's it's not our fault,
- 1:15:42Speaker 13: but the silver linings in it is. We didn't just
- 1:15:46Speaker 13: go blow everybody out. There was actually some games in there.
- 1:15:49Speaker 13: They got a little bat assisted. When we played the
- 1:15:51Speaker 13: big dogs, they showed up, they grabbed their balls and
- 1:15:54Speaker 13: they went home. You know what I mean. On the
- 1:15:57Speaker 13: road like, I mean, this team is for real. I
- 1:16:00Speaker 13: don't care what anybody say. Don't tell me that the
- 1:16:02Speaker 13: Giant said multiple double digit leads in the fourth quarter
- 1:16:05Speaker 13: and lost them and then say, oh, well it was
- 1:16:07Speaker 13: the Giant. I don't want to hear it. You told
- 1:16:09Speaker 13: me they had multiple double digit leads. You know what
- 1:16:11Speaker 13: I mean?
- 1:16:11Speaker 5: The Giants think I told you that before the game.
- 1:16:14Speaker 5: That's why I picked the Pages to win by two touchdowns.
- 1:16:18Speaker 13: Yeah, I did three tags. I'm just saying. Everybody was like,
- 1:16:21Speaker 13: you can't say one thing, and anybody lets the Giants.
- 1:16:24Speaker 13: I know it was the Giants, but we didn't we
- 1:16:25Speaker 13: didn't make the schedule and we were going into the
- 1:16:28Speaker 13: batle on a Monday night like that's the that's the
- 1:16:30Speaker 13: place to lay down. But now they grabbed their balls,
- 1:16:33Speaker 13: they knocked the end off their helmet and make them
- 1:16:35Speaker 13: the Food York Giants. And you know what I mean.
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: I know what you mean.
- 1:16:39Speaker 9: Sam.
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: I'm with you, Hey, and I just.
- 1:16:43Speaker 13: Watching the shows names with games. What if we call
- 1:16:46Speaker 13: them games incomplete?
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: Key?
- 1:16:50Speaker 13: I take it.
- 1:16:51Speaker 5: I hold on, Sam, No, I didn't hear the question
- 1:16:56Speaker 5: anding about the Chief. Great. I didn't get the Chief.
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: I was coughing, and I didn't hear the question. Joseph Pennsylvania, Hey, Joe.
- 1:17:07Speaker 12: Hey, guys, love the show.
- 1:17:10Speaker 23: My question is dis about the can't do that and
- 1:17:14Speaker 23: mental All Pro? Yeah, selections, and like Drake May that
- 1:17:17Speaker 23: we're talking about him m VP. He's number one in
- 1:17:20Speaker 23: Pro Bowl voting, but so is he almost like a
- 1:17:23Speaker 23: shoot in them for All Pro?
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: I would think, But I would think he's got a
- 1:17:27Speaker 5: really good shot for All Pro. But Stafford could get it.
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: That's an ap thing, right, like one I believe.
- 1:17:37Speaker 5: So I believe last year Lamar Jackson was the All
- 1:17:40Speaker 5: Pro in John And yeah, why can I not think
- 1:17:43Speaker 5: of Josh Allen MVP? Yeah, it is possible.
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: That was the first time in a while that they
- 1:17:48Speaker 3: haven't been in lockstep. Usually it's the same voters, so
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: it really doesn't make any sense.
- 1:17:53Speaker 5: It's almost like they wanted to get Josh Allen on
- 1:17:55Speaker 5: m v P and then they said, but really Jackson
- 1:17:58Speaker 5: had a Betty.
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: Yeah, Well, I like maybe in the spirit of what
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: an MVP is, you can make the argument.
- 1:18:06Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think it's that iological. I don't think
- 1:18:08Speaker 5: it's that illogical, but yes, I would if May wins
- 1:18:12Speaker 5: m VP. I would expect him to be the first
- 1:18:14Speaker 5: team All Pro, but.
- 1:18:15Speaker 3: At least be first or second team.
- 1:18:17Speaker 5: It's not a lock. Yeah, and to me, first team
- 1:18:19Speaker 5: is the only team.
- 1:18:20Speaker 23: But the other day I saw like with top ten
- 1:18:22Speaker 23: voting for cornerbacks for a f T wise it team,
- 1:18:26Speaker 23: Marcus Jones was the second a f T and Gonzalez
- 1:18:29Speaker 23: was number three. Do you think do you think Marcus
- 1:18:32Speaker 23: Jones is going to make it as a corner for AFT.
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: As a corner?
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: Yeah, so I was trying to I don't think the
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: Pro Bowl does is I AP might do slot corner,
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: so they might differentiate outside corners and slot corners because
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: I think they do the same with receivers too. Now
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: there's three receivers instead of two the receivers, so if
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: I'm right about that, then Marcus Jones says the FOT
- 1:19:00Speaker 3: corner specifically definitely has a case to be an All Pro.
- 1:19:04Speaker 5: Yeah goodner. Yeah, yeah, I mean I think he's an
- 1:19:07Speaker 5: All Pro punt returner. So just like do you make
- 1:19:09Speaker 5: can he make All Pro at jet.
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: Two spots on the same side of the ball, like
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: they put him as defensive end and that linebacker and
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: he makes the All Pro team in spots.
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: Yeah, you have to be pretty good to do that. Thanks.
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: Joe was like Khalil Mack and his Prime or something
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: like that.
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: Mike and Florida. He says, why fans worry about money?
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: You know, we say, well, what are you worried about it?
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: At your money? He says, And it's not because they
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: care about the money, but because they consider a big
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: expenditure on the wrong guy slash overall scheme versus other
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: guys out there that might be better for the team.
- 1:19:44Speaker 5: So so you don't want the player, right, Yeah, that's
- 1:19:48Speaker 5: not why. I that makes total sense to me. I
- 1:19:51Speaker 5: that email makes total sense to me. I think he
- 1:19:53Speaker 5: might not be a scheme fit or you know, that's
- 1:19:55Speaker 5: why we walk away from Kyle Duggar because we didn't
- 1:19:57Speaker 5: think he was necessarily the right fit the scheme.
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: I worry about money because I understand that everything has
- 1:20:04Speaker 3: a budget. Sure, so like if you're a given.
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: That means you can't get something else you have to
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: consider it.
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: I don't worry about the money for any other reason. Besides,
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: it's a business. And like you realize that someday you
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: wake up and realize, like this isn't a never ending
- 1:20:18Speaker 3: piggy bank here that just keeps going and going.
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: No, but that's like we're talking like the cash out
- 1:20:24Speaker 5: kind of thing. Yeah, in a particular time, like they
- 1:20:28Speaker 5: they put out a lot of cash this particular off
- 1:20:30Speaker 5: season they have they did. Yeah, you know, I know,
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: you know, the narrative is how cheap everybody is around here.
- 1:20:36Speaker 5: But they the Patriots spent a lot of cash this
- 1:20:38Speaker 5: off season on a lot of free agents. I don't
- 1:20:42Speaker 5: think it's probably likely that they do it again this
- 1:20:46Speaker 5: coming off season because of what Evan's talking about. Everybody
- 1:20:49Speaker 5: has budgets. Yeah, that's cash out. That is not like
- 1:20:53Speaker 5: it's not like, oh, we can't sign him to a
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: you know, a five year deal because our cap is
- 1:20:57Speaker 5: going to be in a bad situation. No, it's this
- 1:21:01Speaker 5: one particular year. It might stop you from getting three
- 1:21:04Speaker 5: other guys that you might have wanted to get because
- 1:21:07Speaker 5: I don't have the cash to lay out as signing
- 1:21:09Speaker 5: bonuses which are going to entice a free agent. That
- 1:21:12Speaker 5: is different.
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: Scares me.
- 1:21:14Speaker 4: Scares me because I think looking at the schedule next
- 1:21:16Speaker 4: year and how the team will be viewed by the
- 1:21:19Speaker 4: rest of the NFL, I think you need to take
- 1:21:21Speaker 4: a big step forward this offseason.
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: I think you cannot think, oh, we got from the
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: super Bowl.
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: Yeah, from the super Bowl.
- 1:21:28Speaker 4: It's like oh three where you went and got Corey
- 1:21:30Speaker 4: Dillon and I know, and maybe not a money, but
- 1:21:33Speaker 4: you continue to evolve and change the equation. Whereas if
- 1:21:37Speaker 4: I think, if this team tries to stay pat and
- 1:21:39Speaker 4: you know, and they have a lot of these guys
- 1:21:40Speaker 4: coming and they have holes, but you have to you
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: have to improve, I think in the spring with the
- 1:21:45Speaker 4: roster because teams are gonna be gunning for you next year.
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: The schedules tougher. You're gonna have to play betters.
- 1:21:51Speaker 5: Yeah, and I'm not suggesting they're not going to.
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: But you're right, you're right.
- 1:21:55Speaker 4: And I think that it puts some pressure on guys
- 1:21:58Speaker 4: like Ellio Wolf and Ryan Cowden into identify good players
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: like they did this year.
- 1:22:02Speaker 5: Weren't going to make Williams like twenty six million a
- 1:22:05Speaker 5: year like Milton Williams. Yeah, I'm not expecting that. Yeah,
- 1:22:09Speaker 5: I do what I mean, I'm not expecting they're going
- 1:22:11Speaker 5: to set the market out of that. He was the
- 1:22:12Speaker 5: highest paid defensive tackle in trade.
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: Agent.
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: I do wonder though, if it is like one splash like,
- 1:22:18Speaker 3: do they make that one trade or that's a J.
- 1:22:21Speaker 8: Brown?
- 1:22:21Speaker 3: Yeah, a J Brown, you know something like that.
- 1:22:24Speaker 5: I would not rule that out. Yeah, I would not
- 1:22:26Speaker 5: rule something like that.
- 1:22:27Speaker 3: It's funny you read my mind, Paul. If I had
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: to pay it, put a guess on who it would be,
- 1:22:31Speaker 3: it would be him.
- 1:22:32Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: I like the trade. I like the trade.
- 1:22:34Speaker 13: Thing.
- 1:22:35Speaker 5: I'm not saying I'm eliminating departability of them improving because
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: I think that they're I don't want to go down
- 1:22:41Speaker 5: this rabbit hole again, Okay, but I think Mike is
- 1:22:43Speaker 5: trying to say, and I'll say, get harder because because
- 1:22:46Speaker 5: you're nicer than me, I'll just say it. Okay. I
- 1:22:50Speaker 5: don't think that they look at this team as being
- 1:22:51Speaker 5: as talented as some of the other teams, and they
- 1:22:54Speaker 5: think if they just sit tight and stand pat that
- 1:22:58Speaker 5: won't be good enough next year when the the level
- 1:23:00Speaker 5: of competition increases, so they're going to need to get better. Yeah.
- 1:23:05Speaker 4: And then there's also think that they know that the
- 1:23:06Speaker 4: thing working in their favor is you have Drake may.
- 1:23:08Speaker 4: Now you have some reasons for people to want to
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: come here, so maybe that can help grease the wheels
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: a little bit.
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: But because they get better. They could have been thirteen
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: and oh this two, but.
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: Drake May and you know that's why like A. J.
- 1:23:21Speaker 5: Brown comes up right and they lost to the Raiders.
- 1:23:25Speaker 5: You don't think they could have been better than eleven
- 1:23:26Speaker 5: and two.
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: You can't win them all.
- 1:23:28Speaker 5: I understand seven, And I'm just saying they lost to
- 1:23:32Speaker 5: like one really bad team and one really mid team.
- 1:23:35Speaker 4: But I just I think I need to say it
- 1:23:37Speaker 4: right now. And this is somebody probably they could very
- 1:23:40Speaker 4: likely have a worse record next year, but be a.
- 1:23:42Speaker 5: Better team, no doubt. We say that all the time.
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: Yep. Zach and Sinsey wanted to highlight the fact that
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: with Gonzales playing, the team is not lost, not that
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: he gets all the credit because over all the defenses
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: performing well as a unit. Runde missus Milt. Looking at
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: the rest of the season, including playoffs, it seems that
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: Christian has a clear advantage on other teams wide receiver ones.
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: We could go on a stretch where the best wide
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: receiver we face is Courtland Sutton. What wide receiver matchup
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: scares you, guys? The inevitable Super Bowl matchup against the Rams.
- 1:24:17Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that's right though, I mean, but I just
- 1:24:21Speaker 4: think Gonzales generally is an awesome athlete. And whether you're
- 1:24:24Speaker 4: asking him to man up one of the best wide
- 1:24:26Speaker 4: receivers in the game or an average wide receiver, He's
- 1:24:29Speaker 4: going to do a pretty good job.
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: And you know, I got a lot of confidence.
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: I like, I don't worry about him. I worry about
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: how they use him, like I do. And I'm not
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: saying that in like, no, I guess every run of
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: the mill coordinator. But like he brings up Pooka in
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: the Rams in the super Bowl.
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: Like Devant Adams.
- 1:24:47Speaker 3: Sean McVay against Zach Korr in the Super Bowl is politely.
- 1:24:53Speaker 5: You know, he can't change to all his owness, So
- 1:24:55Speaker 5: so like you know, like what what he's really the
- 1:24:57Speaker 5: way you switch it up? What is it look like
- 1:25:00Speaker 5: if he goes up against Sean McVay, if he goes
- 1:25:04Speaker 5: up against Andy Reid, if he goes up against Ben Johnson.
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: You know, like.
- 1:25:11Speaker 5: The pregame might have Zach Korr going up to Sean mcface.
- 1:25:14Speaker 5: Where do you have guys in motion? Three tight ends? Awesome?
- 1:25:21Speaker 5: Those three tight end look.
- 1:25:24Speaker 3: Through the sea gas.
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: You should have had like Bill on the inside with
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: fit what you store for you tonight.
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: We changed our whole defense going into this game.
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: You have no idea. Joby writes in uh back to
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: the Denver Conversation. I moved from Boston to Boulder, Colorado
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: in the late nineties and stayed a few years before
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: departing to California. I was a bike racer, and when
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: I first got to Cali, I crushed other writers in
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: my category. I think the Bronco players may have an
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: aerobic advantage over sea level players that may come into
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: play at times. So we're saying that, like the Olympic
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: teams train there right, Like that's where the West Olympic
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: headquarters systems. Yeah, there's a reason why I will tell
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: you my story about going to Colorado and biking and no,
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: oh should I tell this biking? Why not?
- 1:26:14Speaker 7: No?
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: So back in the nineties, I was working on this
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: other project. We wanted to start this business for getting
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: all the national governing bodies of Olympic sports onto one
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: website so fans could go and blah blah. So myself
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: an Olympic silver medalist named Eric Flame. He was a
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: silver medalist in long and short form speed skating. Only
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: guy to ever do that. And this other guy, Rob Kramer,
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: who raced bikes. You know. So the three of us
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: went out. We met all day in Colorado Springs with
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: the different national governing bodies, and at the end of
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: the day, I said, you know, we had a good day.
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: Let's go rent some bikes and we'll go out, you know,
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: biking in these mouth boys. Boy, fifteen minutes in, I've
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: already gone over the hand handle bars. My my my
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: chest felt like it was going to come out of
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: my body. And I was just like you guys, just go.
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: I just couldn't do it. I couldn't breathe. That was
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: blood everywhere. Man, It was just like, go just go
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: flip the handlebars. Yeah right anything? No, No, I just
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: my face and my knuckles. What was the name of that,
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: Eric Flame?
- 1:27:22Speaker 5: No, but the company that is not the U cast
- 1:27:25Speaker 5: on US Teams, US teams.
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: People called the Musty, but it was called US Teams
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: and Brian Moore used to go US it was US Teams. Yeah,
- 1:27:36Speaker 2: so we were trying to do it was but the
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: burn is real and fact then this this is you know,
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: like thirty years ago. So it was I didn't I
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: wasn't like I am now. I was in decent shape,
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: and my lungs were burning burning.
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: What about the Olympic guys where they they were like,
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: you know, so I so.
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: I was just kind of like after they left, I
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: was just kind of pedaling along on the flat lands
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: and I see them up on the cliffs and they're
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: like jumping from one thing to it, like they're doing
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: all this stuff, no problem.
- 1:28:06Speaker 19: I don't know.
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: I walked around Denver and I felt I walked start out. Okay, yeah,
- 1:28:11Speaker 3: I walked around. I I literally remember walking around Denver
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: on Christmas Eve morning on the phone with Jess being like,
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: it's not that bad.
- 1:28:20Speaker 5: I don't know what everybody's talking the same thing that
- 1:28:23Speaker 5: she's talking about. The first time I was in Denver,
- 1:28:25Speaker 5: I walked. I was like, I'm so rated.
- 1:28:27Speaker 2: What are they?
- 1:28:28Speaker 5: I never I never even jogged, let alone run.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: It's making me think though, how high? But I was
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: joking Air Force Academy.
- 1:28:35Speaker 3: Is that in Colorado Springs?
- 1:28:36Speaker 5: Colorado Springs?
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: So is that also a mile high or is it not? Quite?
- 1:28:39Speaker 7: Like?
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: I don't know, Yeah, it's up there.
- 1:28:42Speaker 3: We're all so worried about this that I think we
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: should go early. Fred. I think the team should fly
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: out on on like Wednesday.
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: It takes more than that.
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: Oh god, we're never going to win in Denver.
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: Cursed wow, it's six thousand.
- 1:28:57Speaker 5: Oh my god, how do they.
- 1:28:59Speaker 3: Even breathe up there? It's unbelievable because his life pilots
- 1:29:02Speaker 3: well air Force like their football records.
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: Really closer to the sky is what the thinking is.
- 1:29:07Speaker 13: But I mean I.
- 1:29:11Speaker 4: Pregame skate and my feet hurt. I had to get
- 1:29:13Speaker 4: up there. But but we played two games then the
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: next day. In the day after that, I didn't really
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: notice any Oh yeah, I was an e leade athlete though,
- 1:29:19Speaker 4: of course, well especially.
- 1:29:22Speaker 5: My point manning p P too.
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: But Mason Lay wonder, I'm just wondering. You know, in
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: hockey you do shifts, so maybe because you do shifts,
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: you have that chance to recover where.
- 1:29:34Speaker 5: It's the key.
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: It's it's get that rotation.
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: You're out here, get this off.
- 1:29:41Speaker 5: I'm sorry, well too.
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: I watched nikolay Yok run down that floor in Denver,
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: all very fast, and he's very out of shape, and
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: he still manages to do it.
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: Basketball players are weird.
- 1:29:53Speaker 5: It doesn't even jump. Come on, he doesn't exert any He's.
- 1:29:57Speaker 3: The best player player of all the time.
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: All right, let's go back to the phone. We'll go
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: into Mark in Connecticut.
- 1:30:08Speaker 6: Hey, Mark, Hey everyone, happy bye week.
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: Yes Mark, oh HIV.
- 1:30:14Speaker 6: And I tried to catch you on the catch twenty two.
- 1:30:16Speaker 6: But everybody else can chime in on.
- 1:30:18Speaker 16: This as well.
- 1:30:20Speaker 6: You know, it would be awesome to have a number
- 1:30:22Speaker 6: one receiver, But do you think that it would mess
- 1:30:26Speaker 6: with the chemistry in the locker room, because right now
- 1:30:28Speaker 6: we have a really good abundance of a whole bunch
- 1:30:31Speaker 6: of twos and threes I call them for receivers, and
- 1:30:34Speaker 6: they met really well chemistry wise with Drake may do
- 1:30:37Speaker 6: you think by bringing in a pre Madonna that that
- 1:30:41Speaker 6: would mess with it?
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: I think if they did it this now, like in season,
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: like if they've done this at like the deadline, yeah,
- 1:30:47Speaker 3: then I think that would be different.
- 1:30:48Speaker 5: But mid season, not the off season.
- 1:30:51Speaker 4: I think you've established some culture now that if you
- 1:30:53Speaker 4: were to bring a guy in that you have the
- 1:30:55Speaker 4: foundation to support it well.
- 1:30:56Speaker 5: Plus just don't fall into the trap of what happened
- 1:30:59Speaker 5: this year or so that that will be the case
- 1:31:01Speaker 5: next year.
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what I mean.
- 1:31:04Speaker 5: Like, right now that room has been tremendous.
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: And Diggs came in with the reputation for that, and
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: it hasn't been that at all.
- 1:31:08Speaker 5: Winning well, it can, but it can lead to the
- 1:31:13Speaker 5: other way too, Like, yeah, no, I was I was
- 1:31:16Speaker 5: really important. They wouldn't have won without me. I need
- 1:31:20Speaker 5: more Like that happens. That's a natural athletic Uh, you
- 1:31:24Speaker 5: know phenomenon. It happens all the time. All these guys
- 1:31:27Speaker 5: that were subjugating their egos in their minds, like, well, yeah,
- 1:31:30Speaker 5: I did that last year, we had success doing it.
- 1:31:33Speaker 5: Now I want mine. So next year you might not
- 1:31:36Speaker 5: have this, You might not have the same things.
- 1:31:38Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:31:38Speaker 2: I appreciate, all right, something the balance, but.
- 1:31:41Speaker 5: Yeah, I would agree that if they had put someone,
- 1:31:44Speaker 5: if they could have gotten the aj Brown thing this year,
- 1:31:46Speaker 5: and I still would have done it. But if they
- 1:31:48Speaker 5: could have done that this year or the deadline, that
- 1:31:50Speaker 5: would have been part of the cons Like does this
- 1:31:53Speaker 5: disrupt everybody? You know, how is this how is this
- 1:31:57Speaker 5: perceived in you know, within that room, within the the office,
- 1:32:00Speaker 5: the locker room in general. You know, Diggs is the
- 1:32:05Speaker 5: undisputed leader of that group.
- 1:32:07Speaker 3: The leader of the team.
- 1:32:08Speaker 5: Does he does he get does he take any offense
- 1:32:10Speaker 5: to that? Like mid season? You know, we'll never know happened.
- 1:32:15Speaker 3: He might be like towards the bottom now at this
- 1:32:18Speaker 3: point of his career, I think Digs is number one
- 1:32:20Speaker 3: wide receiver.
- 1:32:21Speaker 5: I think he has been, and I would kind of
- 1:32:23Speaker 5: agree with Mark that. Like heading into the season, I
- 1:32:25Speaker 5: was like, no, he's the best they have, but he's
- 1:32:27Speaker 5: not really a number one. He's played well enough to
- 1:32:30Speaker 5: be a number one. Yeah, he just catches.
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: Everything like that, but at one point five, But is
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: he a weapon?
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: I think a third down he is.
- 1:32:41Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:32:41Speaker 5: I was gonna say when when Drake really needs it,
- 1:32:43Speaker 5: he's been a weapon.
- 1:32:44Speaker 2: I with that third and fourth downs a problem with
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: moving the sticks.
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: I'm just asking the question.
- 1:32:52Speaker 2: Sounds like you got a problem with it. Does it
- 1:32:56Speaker 2: sound like that, Sebasti. He's on exit one point fifty
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: three in New Jersey. Paulie yesterday, Sabby boy, you disagreed
- 1:33:07Speaker 2: with me that the team let the foot off the
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: gas in the second half. Maybe my writing skills need refinement.
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: But to be clear, I think this was the best
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: version of the team we've seen in all three phases,
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: but they didn't play at that level all game. I
- 1:33:20Speaker 2: don't think it was a conscious decision on the part
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: of the team, but it was a lack of execution.
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: I want to see them play like they did in
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: the first half the entire game. Now, do you still
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: disagree with me? I do.
- 1:33:31Speaker 5: I think they played an exceptionally good second half as
- 1:33:33Speaker 5: well as first half. Now, if you want to get
- 1:33:35Speaker 5: nitpicky execution wise, yeah, Borgalis misses a field goal like
- 1:33:39Speaker 5: that's poor execution. Like, So to your point, I guess
- 1:33:42Speaker 5: I agree with you. They didn't execute quite as well
- 1:33:45Speaker 5: in the second half. But I think that they did
- 1:33:47Speaker 5: everything that they wanted to do in the second half.
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: I think they accomplished their players and executed the Now
- 1:33:54Speaker 5: they were different plays. We weren't throwing bombs all over
- 1:33:57Speaker 5: the place in the second half because they didn't need to.
- 1:34:00Speaker 5: But I think that they executed and chewed I think
- 1:34:02Speaker 5: there was a possession in the fourth quarter that they
- 1:34:05Speaker 5: went like forty yards and chewed up like seven minutes
- 1:34:08Speaker 5: of clock, six and a half minutes like clock. That's
- 1:34:12Speaker 5: exactly what.
- 1:34:13Speaker 2: I want to do.
- 1:34:14Speaker 5: Like that to me is executing. I don't care if
- 1:34:16Speaker 5: I score, you know, thirty in the first half. I
- 1:34:19Speaker 5: don't need thirty in the second half.
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: Let's you know, read the room. Rabel could have said,
- 1:34:23Speaker 2: you know, we expended a lot of energy in that
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: first half, energy that you know, we probably had to
- 1:34:30Speaker 2: find somewhere because we're running out of gas here getting
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: into the buy. I'm I'm factoring that into how we
- 1:34:37Speaker 2: did the second half, and if I have the opportunity
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: like I did, like Paul said to kind of milk clock,
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: I'm gonna take it rather than ask these guys to be,
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: you know, all out like they were in the first half.
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: I think the one of the most like sneaky good
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: things about Mike Rabel is understanding like how to choke
- 1:34:54Speaker 3: out a team and like how to like truly end
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: the game, because I think what the emailer is saying,
- 1:35:00Speaker 3: I think a lot of teams fall into that trap
- 1:35:03Speaker 3: and they start throwing. They keep throwing like crazy, and
- 1:35:06Speaker 3: they keep going bombs away and it's either turnovers or
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: quick three and outs, and all of a sudden, you
- 1:35:13Speaker 3: got a game on your hands. Like it's just there's
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: been more blown leads this year than any other year
- 1:35:19Speaker 3: in like the last like decade.
- 1:35:21Speaker 5: So I'm just looking at the drive chart the second
- 1:35:23Speaker 5: half drives. They really had three drives in the second half.
- 1:35:26Speaker 5: They chewed up six thirty six, four oh eight and
- 1:35:29Speaker 5: five twenty seven. They had the ball for seventeen minutes
- 1:35:32Speaker 5: of the second half. That's dominance, like, they did exactly
- 1:35:36Speaker 5: what they wanted to do. They didn't need to score
- 1:35:38Speaker 5: thirty more points. They needed to run the clock out,
- 1:35:42Speaker 5: which is kind of why I was a little critical
- 1:35:45Speaker 5: of them throwing the ball at the very end, trying like,
- 1:35:48Speaker 5: in my view, trying to get another touchdown that didn't
- 1:35:51Speaker 5: need to be scored. I don't care that they only
- 1:35:54Speaker 5: scored whatever points in the second half. Through they scored
- 1:35:57Speaker 5: three points. I don't feel like they didn't need any points.
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: Now again from an exit, you know, strictly semantics. From
- 1:36:02Speaker 5: Sebastian's email, they didn't execute quite as well because they
- 1:36:06Speaker 5: missed the field goal and they didn't get a touchdown.
- 1:36:10Speaker 5: They got a penalty, then got a touchdown call back,
- 1:36:12Speaker 5: So that's not as good of executions in the first half.
- 1:36:15Speaker 5: But I think what they wanted to do. I don't
- 1:36:17Speaker 5: think they let their foot off the gas. I think
- 1:36:19Speaker 5: they wanted to choke him out and they did.
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: Sebastian also has a hot take, I don't want Campbell
- 1:36:24Speaker 2: to return after he's eligible to return. I would sit
- 1:36:27Speaker 2: him until the AFC Championship game to make sure it's
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: worth bringing him back and potentially making his injury regress
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: or make it worse. And yes, he can get worse
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: if his whole knee buckles on the field.
- 1:36:38Speaker 5: I want him to return when he's healthy enough to return.
- 1:36:40Speaker 5: I don't know that that's what can be saved, Chip,
- 1:36:44Speaker 5: I don't know that that's going to be this year.
- 1:36:46Speaker 2: Music doctors.
- 1:36:47Speaker 5: Yeah, if the doctor says he's he's healthy enough to play,
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: then I want him to play, even if that's the
- 1:36:51Speaker 5: Miami game, the meaningless Week eighteen game.
- 1:36:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it'd be good to get him if
- 1:36:55Speaker 3: he's healthy.
- 1:36:56Speaker 5: I don't think that he's going to be able to
- 1:36:57Speaker 5: play in that game, and I'm not sure he's going
- 1:36:59Speaker 5: to be able to play in the playoffs. But if
- 1:37:01Speaker 5: the doctors clear him, I want him playing, right, doesn't
- 1:37:04Speaker 5: everybody else?
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: Yeah? Absolutely.
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: I was just happy to see him in the locker
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: room yesterday that Mike Mike came in after.
- 1:37:11Speaker 5: The locker room. Have you seen him since?
- 1:37:15Speaker 3: Maybe Evans Damn.
- 1:37:18Speaker 5: I saw him on Friday when we all walked said,
- 1:37:20Speaker 5: but maybe it was in one of those other rooms
- 1:37:22Speaker 5: that we're not supposed to look into.
- 1:37:23Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, you're just walking through pipe and drape and
- 1:37:27Speaker 4: going in the back door.
- 1:37:27Speaker 2: I didn't walk through.
- 1:37:28Speaker 5: Pipe and drape, Mike. I stay on the other side.
- 1:37:32Speaker 3: I do want to remind myself every once in a
- 1:37:34Speaker 3: while that, like if we see them like on the
- 1:37:36Speaker 3: plane or like on the buses or whatever, that like.
- 1:37:39Speaker 5: Oh yeah I saw him.
- 1:37:42Speaker 3: Like people will ask me like, oh, is he a
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: cast or whatever, and I'm like, nope, I can't tell you.
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: Sign an NBA smart man.
- 1:37:50Speaker 5: I always had a rule smart and actually anything that
- 1:37:52Speaker 5: I saw, it was myself imposed with anything that I
- 1:37:55Speaker 5: saw strictly because I worked here. It was off right.
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: That's not a rule, that's a mandate that it's interesting.
- 1:38:04Speaker 2: It was mighty interesting email from Carol and Georgia. First
- 1:38:08Speaker 2: of all, she says, I use grammarly to write this
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: email same, so thank you.
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: It's not just the greatest he said.
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: According to the soccer teams in Brazil, that's very high altitude.
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: The best strategy is to arrive to play just before
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: the game. The body takes some hours to feel the altitude,
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: so you must use this interval to play. I don't
- 1:38:28Speaker 2: know what will happen after But the players in Brazil
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: are alive and fine. I don't know, so I have.
- 1:38:35Speaker 3: Heard that now you do have to be there the
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: day like it's an NFL rule that you have to
- 1:38:39Speaker 3: be there the day before, right, So there's nothing that
- 1:38:42Speaker 3: you can You can't fly in the day of the game.
- 1:38:46Speaker 3: Not that you would want to, but you can't. So yeah,
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: especially a.
- 1:38:50Speaker 5: Bad length of a trip. Yeah, we're got to save
- 1:38:54Speaker 5: this altitude talk like they're not playing Denver anytime soon. No,
- 1:38:59Speaker 5: I you know, I started, but I'm saying the whole like,
- 1:39:03Speaker 5: you know, how to deal with it. This is if
- 1:39:05Speaker 5: they're playing Denver in the playoffs. This is what the
- 1:39:07Speaker 5: whole week is going to be. But also to save
- 1:39:10Speaker 5: some of this good stuff.
- 1:39:11Speaker 3: I think the other thing too for me with this
- 1:39:12Speaker 3: is like it's gonna be the AFC Championship game, and
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: like at that point you're gonna have be It's gonna.
- 1:39:18Speaker 5: Be hard, you know, like it's not according to you yesterday.
- 1:39:22Speaker 3: You're gonna be playing a good team. It's gonna be
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: high stakes, it's gonna be hard. So like wherever you're
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: playing it, it's you're in the a FC championship game,
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: like that's where he lost all them weights. Yeah yeah,
- 1:39:35Speaker 3: really quick bone to pick with the referees, which I
- 1:39:37Speaker 3: know that, Like I don't know the email before this
- 1:39:42Speaker 3: made me think this.
- 1:39:43Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:39:43Speaker 5: They kept on calling penalties and assigning the penalty to
- 1:39:47Speaker 5: the wrong player. They did several times.
- 1:39:50Speaker 3: They did it.
- 1:39:50Speaker 5: I've never seen seventy almost like Scott Hansen was doing that.
- 1:39:54Speaker 3: I haven't seen anything like that before. So they called
- 1:39:57Speaker 3: a hold on Bradbury when the hold was actually on
- 1:39:59Speaker 3: bet Brown, and then they called the illegal motion that
- 1:40:03Speaker 3: wiped out was because they were talking about the Henry points.
- 1:40:05Speaker 3: They called it on seventy five.
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it was Ben Brown again, I know
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: it was.
- 1:40:11Speaker 3: It was Hunter Henry.
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: It was Hunter.
- 1:40:12Speaker 5: Yeah, he did.
- 1:40:14Speaker 3: Happened so fast Hunter Henry didn't come set before they
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: snapped the ball.
- 1:40:17Speaker 5: So the penalty of twenty twenty five, the penalty of
- 1:40:21Speaker 5: twenty four was the tackle being in the backfield that
- 1:40:24Speaker 5: got called like fifteen times a game. This is the
- 1:40:27Speaker 5: penalty this year. It drives me insane. I don't understand
- 1:40:30Speaker 5: why it's even illegal to go in motion and not
- 1:40:32Speaker 5: you know, recess stuff. Well, it depends on if it's
- 1:40:35Speaker 5: motion or a shift correct, because if your in motion,
- 1:40:38Speaker 5: if you're off the line of scrimmage in motion, you
- 1:40:40Speaker 5: can be in motion, but once you go to set
- 1:40:42Speaker 5: back onto the line of scrimmage, you have to come
- 1:40:44Speaker 5: to a full set. And I understand the whole two
- 1:40:46Speaker 5: guys in motion thing. I just like, that's not confusing anybody,
- 1:40:50Speaker 5: Like the whole Miami Dolphins thing isn't. That's not like,
- 1:40:54Speaker 5: oh he was he was moving, like, That's not what
- 1:40:57Speaker 5: the problem was. The problem was they were like lightning.
- 1:40:59Speaker 5: That was the hord thing about Miami when they were
- 1:41:01Speaker 5: rolling and when McDaniel first got there.
- 1:41:04Speaker 3: But it was on it was on the it was
- 1:41:06Speaker 3: it was called an illegal shift, yeah, and they assigned
- 1:41:10Speaker 3: it to like seventy five, And I was like that
- 1:41:13Speaker 3: player does not like what are we talking about? But
- 1:41:16Speaker 3: really small thing like that, that illegal motion penalty is
- 1:41:19Speaker 3: on Drake, like the it's on the quarterback, the tie
- 1:41:23Speaker 3: up the cadence with the with the shift and make
- 1:41:26Speaker 3: sure that hunter Henry does get set before they snapped
- 1:41:29Speaker 3: the ball. But I just you know, I know that
- 1:41:32Speaker 3: was up.
- 1:41:32Speaker 5: He also he also used an incorrect signal on a penalty.
- 1:41:35Speaker 5: I forget what it was.
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: It was brutal.
- 1:41:37Speaker 5: I think it was an illegal man downfield and he
- 1:41:40Speaker 5: did the wrong signal.
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: But I forget Amir has a good billboard of case
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: the Patriots whin the AFCI. Yeah, it's also it's just
- 1:41:50Speaker 2: say we'll take it from here. I like that.
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: That's good.
- 1:41:54Speaker 2: I like that. That's great good and mirror good.
- 1:41:56Speaker 3: We're gonna we're going to start a gofund me for this.
- 1:41:58Speaker 9: I know.
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: I remember some guy like trolling bill with billboards along
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: Route one.
- 1:42:04Speaker 4: One of the sports hub call her personality people, But
- 1:42:07Speaker 4: I why doesn't he call they better do that the
- 1:42:09Speaker 4: buffalo too.
- 1:42:10Speaker 3: If mister Kraft wants to fund it, he can be
- 1:42:12Speaker 3: like a silent like, we won't tell anybody the money
- 1:42:15Speaker 3: is from him. Well, I might have.
- 1:42:17Speaker 2: Done that a few times. Reno writes in I'm not
- 1:42:20Speaker 2: seeing this overly scary defense from the Broncos. Either they're
- 1:42:25Speaker 2: really good, but they're not unstoppable or shut down people
- 1:42:29Speaker 2: like people want to believe their offense is mid at best,
- 1:42:32Speaker 2: with wild inconsistencies because of Nicks. So yeah, I agree
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: with Evan. I'd be fine seeing them in the playoffs
- 1:42:39Speaker 2: home or away. Let's not forget we're undefeated in away
- 1:42:42Speaker 2: games at this moment. By the way, I love that
- 1:42:44Speaker 2: Evan has become a mixture of Eric in big Head.
- 1:42:48Speaker 2: He gets very palady like Eric and hot headed like
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: any Paul, please keep starting starting the arguments with everyone
- 1:42:55Speaker 2: and Fred, please continue to instigate ps not saying we
- 1:42:59Speaker 2: can't lose to the Broncos, just saying we can.
- 1:43:01Speaker 5: Win two and not scared to know why I win.
- 1:43:05Speaker 4: My only feeling on this is like I would just
- 1:43:06Speaker 4: kind of prefer not to play in Denver, but I
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: don't really care. And otherwise there's no teams that I
- 1:43:11Speaker 4: really don't think the Patriots have a chance against in
- 1:43:13Speaker 4: the AFC.
- 1:43:14Speaker 3: They don't even have the best defense in the conference.
- 1:43:19Speaker 2: Jeremiah is also with Evan. I'm with Evan. I'm so
- 1:43:23Speaker 2: tired of hearing everyone's nightmares about Denver. I don't think
- 1:43:26Speaker 2: our fan base just has to stare at the Broncos
- 1:43:30Speaker 2: logo and clinch their fists as they yell I'm not
- 1:43:32Speaker 2: afraid of you anymore. Home games in general have benefits,
- 1:43:36Speaker 2: especially Denver's, but I don't think that team is good
- 1:43:38Speaker 2: enough to have those factors sway the game. Yeah, I agree, I.
- 1:43:43Speaker 4: Mean you could say, I'd prefer not to play on
- 1:43:45Speaker 4: the road generally, you know what I mean, It's just
- 1:43:48Speaker 4: much rather be just make sure.
- 1:43:51Speaker 5: Too to have anything sweat like that they would benefit
- 1:43:54Speaker 5: from being at home? Sure, I don't, So why wouldn't
- 1:43:57Speaker 5: you think that, Denver?
- 1:43:57Speaker 3: Would I think to only rewigh the Patriots if it
- 1:44:00Speaker 3: from playing at home as if? Like but the question
- 1:44:02Speaker 3: they draw, like the Chargers or the Jaguars.
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: Teams or more importantly, our team's fan base is scared
- 1:44:09Speaker 2: of playing the Patriots in Jillette.
- 1:44:11Speaker 5: I don't think that anybody in the AFC should be
- 1:44:14Speaker 5: afraid of anybody. Yeah, I don't think any fan base
- 1:44:17Speaker 5: in the AFC should be afraid of playing anywhere against
- 1:44:19Speaker 5: anything established. It's a completely flat conference, that's all it
- 1:44:23Speaker 5: has been the whole year. No one's really been able to,
- 1:44:27Speaker 5: you know, dominate.
- 1:44:28Speaker 4: And a lot of the parts we're talking about are
- 1:44:30Speaker 4: unproven teams, Like if it was Tom Brady and that
- 1:44:32Speaker 4: old Patriots team, Like, yeah, I don't want to go
- 1:44:33Speaker 4: to Foxboro, But what do you know about Bonnicks in
- 1:44:35Speaker 4: the playoffs?
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: You know, what do you know about Tom Brady.
- 1:44:37Speaker 2: And in the playoffs?
- 1:44:39Speaker 5: But you know, they didn't really I mean, he threw
- 1:44:43Speaker 5: a bomb for a touchdown on the first drive, and
- 1:44:44Speaker 5: I think he did nothing the whole rest of the game.
- 1:44:46Speaker 3: I just am And this is not even a Denver thing,
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: It's just an overall thing. I just think that the
- 1:44:53Speaker 3: home field advantage thing is becoming really overrated across the NFL.
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: It just for the past like five to ten years,
- 1:45:01Speaker 3: there really is in the huge discrepancy home road splits
- 1:45:05Speaker 3: and things like that. I just think that it's become
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: a little bit overrated in terms of a talking point.
- 1:45:12Speaker 3: And I don't think anybody was necessarily worried about playing here.
- 1:45:17Speaker 3: I think they were worried about playing Tom Brady.
- 1:45:19Speaker 4: H So the elements, I mean, I would say the
- 1:45:22Speaker 4: elements like ideally Peyton Manning doesn't want to come here
- 1:45:24Speaker 4: when a snowstorm, I mean.
- 1:45:25Speaker 2: Ideally swirling winds.
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: Yeah no, no, But I mean I think everywhere there's something.
- 1:45:29Speaker 5: I think Mike is right. I think if you if
- 1:45:31Speaker 5: you were going to play Tom Brady, you want to
- 1:45:32Speaker 5: play him in like hot weather. You don't want to
- 1:45:36Speaker 5: play him in the snow. He never lost in those conditions,
- 1:45:39Speaker 5: Like that's that was part of it. Now, you don't
- 1:45:42Speaker 5: want to play Brady anywhere, because Brady's you know, we
- 1:45:45Speaker 5: used to joke about this. Brady's record indoors, Brady's record
- 1:45:48Speaker 5: out doors, Brady's record when it's under thirty degree, Brady dominated,
- 1:45:51Speaker 5: no matter what the conditions were.
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: Down by a touchdown going into the fourth quarter, dominates.
- 1:45:55Speaker 5: But I would rather play Brady if I'm an opponent
- 1:45:58Speaker 5: in conditions that I like. Yeah, I know Brady's going
- 1:46:02Speaker 5: to be great regardless of conditions, so if I can
- 1:46:04Speaker 5: match him, I need my conditions. Yeah, And that's why
- 1:46:07Speaker 5: I like playing in January here was that's you know,
- 1:46:10Speaker 5: for Peyton Manning, that's not not deal.
- 1:46:12Speaker 4: Like Evan's point of the Chargers or the Jaguars, you know,
- 1:46:14Speaker 4: having to come up here in January not ideal.
- 1:46:16Speaker 5: But but Baltimore they don't care because they like those
- 1:46:21Speaker 5: conditions Like.
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: A honey badger. They don't care. Zach from doesn't say
- 1:46:25Speaker 2: where Eric wouldn't like that has a little would you
- 1:46:28Speaker 2: rather think? Okay, would you rather option a Patriots win
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: their remaining four games with resounding wins over the Bills
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: and Ravens and get the number one overall seed after
- 1:46:38Speaker 2: first round bye. They lose to the Chiefs in the
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: divisional round Option B. Patriots go two and two in
- 1:46:45Speaker 2: their final four games, losing to the Bills and the Ravens.
- 1:46:48Speaker 2: They beat a middling team like the Jaguars in the
- 1:46:51Speaker 2: wild round card Wildcard round, then lose a game to
- 1:46:55Speaker 2: the Chiefs in the divisional round.
- 1:46:57Speaker 3: Win a playoff game, So I'll play game both ways.
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: You're winning the AFC East, which the.
- 1:47:02Speaker 5: Ways in the division around to Kansas City.
- 1:47:05Speaker 3: Yeah, so when one of them you have a playoff game,
- 1:47:08Speaker 3: win Drake may won a playoff game.
- 1:47:10Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, okay, yeah, all right, get the division. That's
- 1:47:13Speaker 4: my first goal. Get the division.
- 1:47:15Speaker 2: Like decision's over, you know, I know it's aficial till
- 1:47:18Speaker 2: it's over.
- 1:47:19Speaker 13: Right.
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: Also, the Patriots are back to their winning ways, and
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: I love to bring back the tradition of buying you
- 1:47:25Speaker 2: guys lunch. We as listeners can't forget tradition as it
- 1:47:29Speaker 2: hearkens back to the days when Zolac would stop by,
- 1:47:32Speaker 2: and even back to the original Patriots Cafe shows. Wow,
- 1:47:35Speaker 2: you remember those? What's that back in the day. I'll
- 1:47:38Speaker 2: shall tell you in a second. If the new studio
- 1:47:40Speaker 2: isn't conducive to eating food, I'm happy to buy lunch
- 1:47:42Speaker 2: on an off day.
- 1:47:43Speaker 9: No.
- 1:47:44Speaker 2: So back back in the day OG listening, when the
- 1:47:47Speaker 2: World Wide Web first started in the old Stadium, they
- 1:47:51Speaker 2: had the Club which doubled as where the Patriots ate
- 1:47:54Speaker 2: their lunch. So during lunch we'd set up and do
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: a live show with Don Lowry, who was Stacy James
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: before Stacy James actually he was his boss at the time,
- 1:48:04Speaker 2: and we would drag guys from lunch and interview them
- 1:48:07Speaker 2: during their life. That's great. Yeah, sandwiches, yep.
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: So he had relaxed over a meal, you know, hanging.
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: Would they be eating one there or he just grab
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: them like after they.
- 1:48:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, when they're done. It's a shame that we
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: don't have those tapes. Oh yeah, you know, I don't
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: know where they would be.
- 1:48:26Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:48:27Speaker 2: It's funny.
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: I just quick story.
- 1:48:30Speaker 4: Had the chance to interview Nancy Meyer for the eighty
- 1:48:33Speaker 4: five project and she had a funny story. She was
- 1:48:36Speaker 4: saying how different things were, you know, she said, players.
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: Back then they had other jobs.
- 1:48:41Speaker 4: Like the season went in, they would go to like
- 1:48:42Speaker 4: their other job, and then they work and then the
- 1:48:43Speaker 4: season they come back. But she said that you know,
- 1:48:47Speaker 4: they never got swagged they never had. She's like, if
- 1:48:49Speaker 4: players had like two T shirts that said Patriots on them,
- 1:48:52Speaker 4: they were doing well well here.
- 1:48:53Speaker 2: That was definitely the case.
- 1:48:54Speaker 5: I know that they didn't have to work second jobs.
- 1:48:57Speaker 2: No, no, I'm telling you, if a guy needed another jersey,
- 1:49:00Speaker 2: they'd have to buy it. I'm serious, really, I'm serious crazy.
- 1:49:03Speaker 4: But she said one of her best memories from that
- 1:49:05Speaker 4: eighty five season and then going to the Super Bowl
- 1:49:07Speaker 4: was that her and all the admin staff all got
- 1:49:10Speaker 4: outfitted and jumpsuits and sneakers from Rebok, which at the time,
- 1:49:14Speaker 4: my dad was working at Rebok, And she said, you
- 1:49:16Speaker 4: know what sparked my memory was like, there's that there's
- 1:49:18Speaker 4: a picture somewhere of all of us in our rebox stuff.
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: And I was so excited, And I've looked everywhere for
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: that picture and I don't know where it is.
- 1:49:25Speaker 4: So somewhere around here, there's got to be some kind
- 1:49:26Speaker 4: of archive with all this stuff. And yeah, I'm sure
- 1:49:28Speaker 4: a lot of people like to get their hands on.
- 1:49:31Speaker 2: So yeah, no it it used to be bad. And
- 1:49:33Speaker 2: they used to accuse the old equipment manager before Donnie Brocher,
- 1:49:39Speaker 2: this guy Longo of you know, having like an underground
- 1:49:45Speaker 2: economy where he would like, you know, sell extra guys,
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: keep the money and everything.
- 1:49:50Speaker 3: Stick would never Yeah.
- 1:49:52Speaker 4: Well now it's like he like, it's those new T
- 1:49:53Speaker 4: shirts and new sweatshirts and they're like randomly getting sweatshirts
- 1:49:57Speaker 4: and T shirts made with sayings on them, and you,
- 1:49:59Speaker 4: I mean, you can't escape.
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: I know elders in North Carolina on the hotline, what's
- 1:50:03Speaker 2: up eld.
- 1:50:06Speaker 5: Woa?
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: Whoa sut though?
- 1:50:10Speaker 2: That guy that just swerved into the guard rail here
- 1:50:13Speaker 2: you great?
- 1:50:14Speaker 9: No, I ain't nobody here.
- 1:50:16Speaker 11: Everyone out of your change, bro.
- 1:50:19Speaker 12: I'm wanting them one.
- 1:50:20Speaker 6: Like I said, it's the greatest one eleven Ford for
- 1:50:25Speaker 6: the s up there.
- 1:50:26Speaker 12: I don't want to play there.
- 1:50:28Speaker 7: But because but if you listen to David Andrews and
- 1:50:33Speaker 7: I think him in the whole Your.
- 1:50:35Speaker 12: Pet Chat My Dad podcast, Yeah, can you tell you
- 1:50:39Speaker 12: why and why he was sick for two weeks after
- 1:50:41Speaker 12: going up there, and it's it's that but fear.
- 1:50:44Speaker 3: Yeah, but that had nothing to do with it.
- 1:50:46Speaker 2: No, Andrews had a bug. Yeah, he was really set.
- 1:50:49Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, But I don't think it was altitude related.
- 1:50:54Speaker 3: Uh he said his attitude something telling you it's not
- 1:50:58Speaker 3: a factor I'm just telling you that it's not impossible.
- 1:51:01Speaker 2: I remember that we spent yeah, we spent a week
- 1:51:04Speaker 2: out there nineteen you know, yeah, this was we had
- 1:51:08Speaker 2: a weekend. Yeah, I'm sorry, No, we had a week
- 1:51:12Speaker 2: out then. I remember he got really sick. Yeah, couldn't
- 1:51:15Speaker 2: make the second leg of the game.
- 1:51:17Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:51:19Speaker 12: And there I love, I love. I don't want to
- 1:51:27Speaker 12: play that come down down.
- 1:51:29Speaker 2: I want to play him here and would I well
- 1:51:32Speaker 2: everybody would rather play him here, all right, thanks Aldred,
- 1:51:37Speaker 2: Yeah I did.
- 1:51:38Speaker 3: And I think it's Paul said, like, we'll get to
- 1:51:40Speaker 3: it when we get to it, which he's right. But
- 1:51:42Speaker 3: if you look at Denver's last four games of their schedule,
- 1:51:45Speaker 3: it's Packers, Chiefs, Chargers, Jaguars or their last four games,
- 1:51:50Speaker 3: like the way that they get the number one seed,
- 1:51:53Speaker 3: other than like they have the tie breakers over the Patriots.
- 1:51:56Speaker 3: So both teams went out and Denver is going to
- 1:51:57Speaker 3: be the number one seed. But I don't think Denver's
- 1:51:59Speaker 3: winning out.
- 1:52:00Speaker 5: So but winning out, But what if both teams go
- 1:52:02Speaker 5: too and two or in Denver's case three, It depends
- 1:52:06Speaker 5: on this breaker. Why I always say, like, don't just
- 1:52:10Speaker 5: blanket tie breaker? They have the tiebreaker, So I believe Now.
- 1:52:13Speaker 2: If it's AC, I believe it Chargers.
- 1:52:17Speaker 3: Well, I but I believe it would it would. It
- 1:52:19Speaker 3: wouldn't matter because as long as they beat the Raiders,
- 1:52:22Speaker 3: they'll have the common opponent tiebreaker. And then the Patriots
- 1:52:26Speaker 3: last four games are all against the a f C.
- 1:52:29Speaker 3: So if the Patriots not common that makes sense, but
- 1:52:32Speaker 3: they're all but it's conference records is more important.
- 1:52:35Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:52:36Speaker 3: So if they go like two and two and in
- 1:52:37Speaker 3: the last four games of the season, then Denver is
- 1:52:40Speaker 3: gonna it's gonna it's gonna be Denver with the tiebreakers.
- 1:52:44Speaker 5: So that's the So it's the would you say the Chargers, Chiefs,
- 1:52:48Speaker 5: the Chiefs, Jackson, Patriots didn't play any of those teams.
- 1:52:52Speaker 3: So it's about the a f C. It will be
- 1:52:54Speaker 3: about the conference record.
- 1:52:55Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, Mike's in New York. What's up, Mike, Mike, Mike,
- 1:53:01Speaker 2: Mike Wednesday, hump Day? Where are you? He's gone home?
- 1:53:07Speaker 2: All right, that's okay, Mike, get another chance.
- 1:53:11Speaker 5: I just do a lot of different topics today.
- 1:53:13Speaker 4: It is interesting, though, Kathy, like all the odds that
- 1:53:17Speaker 4: it really seems, based on what I've seen, it's Patriots
- 1:53:20Speaker 4: are Broncos.
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: That's the one seed, right, It's the Patriots.
- 1:53:23Speaker 5: Those are the biggest team I think that has a
- 1:53:26Speaker 5: minute chance, and I think it's less than five percent
- 1:53:28Speaker 5: is Buffalo because Buffalo could conceivably, you know, steal the
- 1:53:33Speaker 5: division and then you know, you get into all the
- 1:53:36Speaker 5: different stuff if that tough schedule that Evan talked about
- 1:53:39Speaker 5: with the Broncos comes into play.
- 1:53:40Speaker 3: But I think it's just yeah, yeah, the Patriots right
- 1:53:43Speaker 3: now are slave favorites to be the one seed in
- 1:53:46Speaker 3: most places. But it's because they're back end of their
- 1:53:48Speaker 3: schedules easier than Denvers. So not by much, honestly, because
- 1:53:53Speaker 3: you have Baltimore and Buffalo, but they have the Jets
- 1:53:56Speaker 3: and the Dolphins, and.
- 1:53:56Speaker 5: They have they're easier than the Chargers and the Jets.
- 1:53:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: Right, teams who are in playoffs still in the playoff mix.
- 1:54:02Speaker 2: Trying to make it do one more emails Travis and
- 1:54:05Speaker 2: West Virginia. We're talking about me reading emails, he says, uh,
- 1:54:09Speaker 2: And and you know, reading favorites. He says, nonsense, Fred,
- 1:54:13Speaker 2: My emails are always good, and you only read about
- 1:54:16Speaker 2: one out of every five I sent. Also, Kwannie doesn't
- 1:54:19Speaker 2: read emails either, The only difference is that she pretends
- 1:54:22Speaker 2: she didn't get any emails, while you pretend.
- 1:54:24Speaker 5: You got a lot.
- 1:54:26Speaker 2: It's not pretending we get a lot.
- 1:54:30Speaker 5: You can't really read them all.
- 1:54:31Speaker 2: All right, all right, there's a lot more emails. I'm
- 1:54:35Speaker 2: sorry I didn't get to all of them. But anyway,
- 1:54:36Speaker 2: we'll be back tomorrow, so you'll have another chance to
- 1:54:39Speaker 2: email or call in. The gang will be all here
- 1:54:42Speaker 2: because Evan won't have a locker room to go to.
- 1:54:44Speaker 2: Deuce won't have a locker room to go to. Live
- 1:54:47Speaker 2: picks from Evan, Live picks from Evan, Second time, any
- 1:54:52Speaker 2: four like any teaser.
- 1:54:57Speaker 13: I had?
- 1:54:58Speaker 5: I had a really good week with a spread. Okay,
- 1:55:01Speaker 5: that's kind of average otherwise.
- 1:55:03Speaker 2: Okay, all right, well we'll get to that tomorrow. Thanks
- 1:55:06Speaker 2: for watching today.
- 1:55:10Speaker 3: Hey this is Alex. Thanks for tuning into the show.
