- 0:00Hello, I went back to grab what I left in a bush
- 0:03But stuff still happened. So what's up? Hi, it's
- 0:09good to be back. How's it going? I disappeared
- 0:11for a while real quick Just summary of what happened
- 0:14my face gave up on me. It got cancer. I had to
- 0:17get rid of that I had there was a cancer on my
- 0:19face. It's gone now There's a scar you want to
- 0:22see it if you're watching not listening There
- 0:25it is for those who are just listening imagine
- 0:28if you will Not a big scar It went well. It was
- 0:32fine. And now I'm past it I also fucked up my
- 0:35ankle really really bad and couldn't stand for
- 0:37a while and also was dealing with some brain
- 0:40stuff You know how it goes, but we're back. We're
- 0:42doing okay What's going on that made Africa bigger?
- 0:47I mean, that's fine. I was just not expecting
- 0:49it Maps. They help us find things. And sometimes
- 0:52the thing that we're looking for is Africa. And
- 0:55unfortunately, the current map that we use, the
- 0:57Mercator Projection, it sucks a lot. And it's
- 1:00bad. And I can't find Africa because of it. I
- 1:03sailed right past it. That's not true for a lot
- 1:05of reasons. Let me back up. The Mercator Projection.
- 1:09It is essentially the standard map projection
- 1:11that we use to display the world on a 2D plane.
- 1:15A map. The world is spherical, and a map is usually
- 1:20Not spherical, it's a map. And so it's pretty
- 1:23hard to take planet Earth and unfold it into
- 1:27two dimensions from three. Think of your shadow,
- 1:30and how at the end of the day, when the sun is
- 1:32low, it casts real far. It's kind of like that,
- 1:36because you're three dimensions and the shadow
- 1:37is two dimensions. Maps! So the Mercator projection,
- 1:41it was made by a dude named Gerardis Mercator
- 1:44back in like the 1500s. He was like, I wanna
- 1:46make a big map, and I wanted to have everything
- 1:48on it. But specifically, I want all the edges
- 1:51of the map to latitudinally and longitudinally
- 1:54line up with each other. Set another way, if
- 1:57you kind of like go off the edge of one side
- 1:59of the map, you come back on the exact same spot
- 2:01on the other side of the map, like a Pac -Man
- 2:03game. But for Earth, this works for a lot of
- 2:06cases, and it makes sense why we got here, but
- 2:10it skews landmasses like crazy. The closer you
- 2:13get to the poles, the worse the map is at actually
- 2:16representing what the world looks like. enter
- 2:18the Equal Earth Projection, which tries to fix
- 2:21that. It takes what we are generally used to
- 2:23looking at and tries to rework it a bit so that
- 2:26all the land masses are sized properly relative
- 2:29to each other, and positioned properly next to
- 2:31each other. And what this essentially does is
- 2:33make Africa bigger, because Africa is way smaller
- 2:37than it should be on the current Mercator Projection.
- 2:39Similar to how, like, Greenland is gargantuan,
- 2:41Africa is much smaller than it actually is. So
- 2:44on the Equal Earth Projection, Africa big. Not
- 2:48small Africa big Africa big shit I'm gonna be
- 2:52saying that constantly and so Africa big and
- 2:55the UN was like Africa big let's change the map
- 2:57from Mercator to equal earth all in favor say
- 3:00aye 164 countries said aye six countries abstained
- 3:04and wouldn't you know it there was one day from
- 3:07free country USA Now to be clear, this was not
- 3:10a binding resolution. This was basically the
- 3:12UN getting together and saying, hey, it would
- 3:14be pretty chill if people thought about using
- 3:16this other map going forward for, like, educational
- 3:19material and stuff. So the US delegation cried,
- 3:22saying that the map change, quote, cannot be
- 3:25separated from the much larger and more radical
- 3:28ideological project it belongs to. Because we
- 3:32have to be against everything now. Never mind
- 3:34that NASA Goddard decided to adopt this map back
- 3:37in 2018. It's ideological, guys. What I have
- 3:42to assume they're trying to get at is that they
- 3:43don't like that this map makes Africa where black
- 3:46people come from bigger while making the US where
- 3:50white people come. Wait. No, no, that's wrong.
- 3:52Slightly smaller. Anyway, it's maps. Ideological.
- 3:57Let's move on. I have an ideology. That ideology
- 4:00is that private corporations shouldn't have their
- 4:03tendrils across international governance and
- 4:06policy. McKinsey. They are a consulting agency
- 4:09that operates in a lot of places across the world.
- 4:12Dozens of governments, many companies, lots of
- 4:14rich boys. They describe themselves as people
- 4:17and AI powering growth. And recently, the Belgian
- 4:21government seized about 65 million euros from
- 4:24them. McKinsey has their fingers in basically
- 4:27every pie they can possibly get them in. That's
- 4:29their play. It's basically just be omnipresent
- 4:32in policy crafting. Because, like, you know,
- 4:36you hear the Heritage Foundation, it's not dissimilar.
- 4:39So why do they have those funds seized? Well,
- 4:41it turns out French authorities believe that
- 4:43McKinsey may have done some tax fraud. Maybe.
- 4:47Years back, the French government was like, yo,
- 4:49um, hey, there's a lot of private companies that
- 4:51are just involved in policymaking. We should
- 4:53look into that a bit. And they looked into that
- 4:55a bit and they found that McKinsey seemingly
- 4:58hadn't paid basically any income tax for a decade.
- 5:02Seemingly. Presumably. They think. Cover in my
- 5:07ass. Yeet. Anyway, that 65 million euro number,
- 5:10that's about 96 % of the amount of potentially
- 5:14missed taxes from McKinsey. So that's been seized.
- 5:16McKinsey says they didn't do anything wrong,
- 5:19and that they love tax adherence, and that they
- 5:21didn't do anything wrong. Now, maybe McKinsey
- 5:23didn't do anything wrong. We'll just take him
- 5:25at their word. That's fine. Moving on, let's
- 5:27talk about some of the other things McKinsey's
- 5:29done in the past that they definitely did do.
- 5:31Back in 2021, McKinsey settled a massive lawsuit
- 5:35against them as part of the lawsuits against
- 5:37Purdue and all the OxyContin stuff, you know,
- 5:39the opioid epidemic in the US. Yeah, they had
- 5:42a big role in that. Facing criminal charges for
- 5:45their role in poisoning our people, they settled
- 5:49the lawsuit to avoid that, allegedly. Presumptively.
- 5:54McKinsey has also been working with ICE since
- 5:56the Obama era and continuing on under Trump,
- 5:59helping them to save money with their concentration
- 6:01camps, which ICE insists are detention centers.
- 6:05McKinsey and ICE had some duets with such hits
- 6:07as, reduce the food budget and reduce the medication
- 6:10budget. Um, hey, maybe we don't do this anymore.
- 6:17Like, have private companies who are just in
- 6:20charge of policy making. What if, like, representatives
- 6:23represented the people they represent? Grand
- 6:27Theft Auto, GTA 6. It's been a meme for so long,
- 6:30it has reached unbelievable hype levels. Fans
- 6:34have been measuring the oxygen levels outside
- 6:37of Rockstar's headquarters to try to predict
- 6:40when a trailer was going to come out. That's
- 6:42not a joke. That happened. There were actually
- 6:44people who were like, we're going to try to measure
- 6:46oxygen levels. And if they drop, that means there's
- 6:48more employees on site and therefore some things
- 6:50may be happening. They also tried to measure
- 6:52acoustic noise in like meeting rooms from far
- 6:55away. Wild! Recently, publisher Take Two and
- 6:58developer Rockstar had a big first look at GTA
- 7:016. They released it on Netflix. It was a big
- 7:03in -depth dive into the game as a big preview.
- 7:07They did this seemingly in response to a giant
- 7:10leak of GTA 6. After years of Rockstar being
- 7:13very, very quiet about GTA 6, an account named
- 7:16CyberLeak started to post footage of the game,
- 7:19saying that they got a copy of the game's files
- 7:21and would start releasing footage until Rockstar
- 7:23met their demands. I will say, the demands were...
- 7:27very gamer. And, like, I don't necessarily disagree
- 7:30with them. But it's wild in 2026 with everything
- 7:35that's going on that this is a list of demand
- 7:37that includes things like No more digital pre
- 7:40-orders. I feel like there's better demands like
- 7:43just ask them to donate a bunch of money to a
- 7:45good cause or something I don't know so I regret
- 7:48to inform you that this leaker on Twitter posting
- 7:52GTA clips may have compromised your discord account
- 7:55and we'll get to that but first we're gonna talk
- 7:57about how this leaker also pulled a crypto rug
- 8:00pull because of course they did If you're not
- 8:01familiar with crypto, congratulations. If you're
- 8:04not familiar with rug pulls, also congratulations.
- 8:06Super quick rundown. A rug pull is one of many
- 8:09ways that people use cryptocurrencies to scam
- 8:11other people. And it's basically saying, hey,
- 8:13everyone, I've got this new cryptocurrency. It's
- 8:15going to be real and big and good. Buy into it.
- 8:19A bunch of people buy into it. The value of the
- 8:20coin goes up. The person who made it has a giant
- 8:23stockpile, sells all of that, plummeting the
- 8:26value of the coin, taking the money and running.
- 8:28It's what happened with the Hoctua coin, if you
- 8:31recall that. It also happens to do like most
- 8:33coins. So during all of this GTA leaking stuff,
- 8:37Cyberleak was like, hey guys, I have a cryptocurrency.
- 8:40I'm super altruistic. If you buy into this cryptocurrency,
- 8:43I'm going to do something that's good. Lighten
- 8:48the details, but doesn't really matter. Cyberleak
- 8:50sold everything they had for about $250 ,000
- 8:53and disappeared. Given the anonymity, Take Two,
- 8:56the publisher of GTA, is now working with the
- 8:58courts to subpoena Discord and Microsoft and
- 9:01Twitter and YouTube and who knows who else in
- 9:04the future, asking for a shitload of user data.
- 9:07In the case of Discord, we at least know that
- 9:09it's, hey, we want a bunch of data associated
- 9:12with any account that interacted with this list
- 9:14of servers. And we don't know what that list
- 9:16of servers is. A judge looked at this and was
- 9:19like, yeah, this is fine. This is cool and good.
- 9:21Hey, tech companies. to try and track down someone
- 9:25who did some IP fraud, we're gonna hand over
- 9:28a bunch of people's information. Just in case.
- 9:31Now, look. Intellectual property, it's important.
- 9:35Like, it's important to be able to protect art.
- 9:37Maybe we don't do this? Maybe, maybe... Scammer
- 9:43leaking stuff on Twitter does not result in the
- 9:46mass obtainment of people's data. Maybe. Anyway,
- 9:50yeah, car game, vroom pew. And now, it's time
- 9:53to talk about the anniversary of some divine
- 9:56judgment. In Constantinople, 1509. On this day
- 10:00in 1509, a giant 7 .2 magnitude earthquake rocked
- 10:05the Sea of Memara. The earthquake absolutely
- 10:07rocked Constantinople, and there was 28 days
- 10:11of aftershocks and a tsunami that eclipsed the
- 10:13city's walls. 28 days of just like... That's
- 10:20me, um... Being in an earthquake Now I say judgment
- 10:25because this event is referred to as minor judgment
- 10:28day It refers to an interpretation of a part
- 10:31of the Quran that talks about the last judgment
- 10:33being a big earthquake So this is little earthquake
- 10:37unlike Africa big earthquake smaller judgment
- 10:42minor. I'm losing it. I'm losing it We're going
- 10:46to bring it back, though, because I do want to
- 10:48share with you some artwork that came out of
- 10:51this event. Now, I want to be clear. This is
- 10:53a tragedy, but we have some art that depicts
- 10:55the scene. If you want to see for yourself, here
- 10:57it is. I'll describe it for those who are listening.
- 11:01Imagine, if you will, it's real distressful stuff.
- 11:06A bunch of people covered in houses and horses
- 11:10sticking out from houses and people just kind
- 11:13of like... waving their arms around. It's hilarious.
- 11:16It's a very funny image. Like, I know it's depicting
- 11:19tragedy, I know. But like the guy in the middle
- 11:22who's just like, guess I'll die. Honestly, I
- 11:26think I just relayed a bit too much. Lightning
- 11:28round! A Tesla in full self -driving mode hit
- 11:31another car, killing the other driver, and Tesla
- 11:34failed to report it despite a law requiring them
- 11:36to report when crashes involved full self -driving
- 11:39mode. Workers at Wikimedia, the company behind
- 11:41Wikipedia and other Wiki -like things, they unionized.
- 11:45They overwhelmingly voted to unionize. A cargo
- 11:48plane for Amazon crashed with at least five people
- 11:50dead after it overran a runway on landing in
- 11:53Miami. We got a big old trailer for the remake
- 11:56of Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time for the Switch
- 11:582, and it hilariously looks like all of those,
- 12:01like, what if Ocarina of Time was made in, like,
- 12:03Unreal Engine videos. It does look pretty good,
- 12:06though. A little cartoony, a little strange in
- 12:08some places. I think it looks good, though. As
- 12:10of time of recording, we still don't really know
- 12:12if Mitch McConnell is alive or not. I do have
- 12:15it on good authority that Lindsey Graham is still
- 12:16dead, though. Seemingly due to a sundowning president
- 12:19at one point just randomly deciding that he wanted
- 12:22to take over Canada, we now find ourselves in
- 12:24an escalating trade war with Canada. Seems US
- 12:27negotiators went in and they were like, hey,
- 12:28we basically want to make you a vassal state.
- 12:31And Canada was like, no? And so the US was like,
- 12:34well, nothing we can do. And finally for today,
- 12:37a member of the National Guard, who is still
- 12:39for some reason deployed to Washington DC, costing
- 12:42us money every single day, pulled a gun on another
- 12:45member of the National Guard after they were
- 12:47arguing about hairstyles. I don't know, man.
- 12:51I just... I just read the news. Thank you so
- 12:54much for listening to today's episode of Stuff
- 12:55Keeps Happening. Head to SKH .News for sources,
- 12:59bonus content, and... sources? My name is Endeavorance.
- 13:05We'll talk again soon. Take care and be well.
