- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Welcome to the ned Palty.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Hi, this is Nick and Astasu, story editor on Star Wars,
- 0:10Speaker 1: The Clone Wars and Star Wars bad Batch, and you
- 0:14Speaker 1: are listening to Aggressive Negotiations.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Here.
- 0:32Speaker 4: We are finally, ladies and gentlemen, here on Aggressive Negotiations
- 0:37Speaker 4: in our second season rewatch and analysis of the Mandalorian.
- 0:41Speaker 4: As we count down to the Mandalorian and Grogu coming
- 0:47Speaker 4: into theaters, we are at the episode of episodes that
- 0:50Speaker 4: we were all waiting for, Chapter thirteen, The Jedi Ahsoka
- 0:55Speaker 4: Tano graduates from animation to live action. I am one
- 1:00Speaker 4: of your hosts, Jedi Master John Mills, and joining me
- 1:03Speaker 4: for this very important episode that expands the universe in
- 1:08Speaker 4: so many ways and winds up setting up something else.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Jedi Master Matthew Rushing. Matt, are you ready to buckle
- 1:16Speaker 4: down and go to a dreary planet and examine the
- 1:22Speaker 4: episode the Jedi?
- 1:24Speaker 2: Well, John, I'm just so excited to be here for
- 1:27Speaker 2: this very special episode, and you know, I hope all
- 1:30Speaker 2: the kids are watching because we have a very important
- 1:33Speaker 2: mess for message for you. Don't do drugs, drugs or
- 1:39Speaker 2: bad just say no. And uh yeah, I mean you
- 1:44Speaker 2: know when when Jesse Spano took those speed pills and
- 1:49Speaker 2: just you know, just was so scared.
- 1:51Speaker 4: It left a.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Mark on me with that very special episode.
- 1:54Speaker 4: And so anyway, well, I definitely, I definitely think that
- 2:00Speaker 4: I'm grateful that the Mandalorio has never had an episode
- 2:03Speaker 4: like that one. And there are certain very special episodes
- 2:08Speaker 4: that I remember from shows I watched as a kid
- 2:10Speaker 4: that can't even be aired now because though their heart
- 2:13Speaker 4: was in the right place in retrospect, everybody went wasn't
- 2:16Speaker 4: necessarily the best way to convey that message. But here
- 2:20Speaker 4: we are with the Jedi. Everybody knows where they can
- 2:23Speaker 4: find us. Okay, go out on the socials, at the
- 2:25Speaker 4: Jedi Masters on x at Joint Nerd Party. You can
- 2:29Speaker 4: find the Nerd Party on Facebook and Instagram. We're all
- 2:31Speaker 4: over the place. We're on Spotify, We're on YouTube, We're
- 2:34Speaker 4: on whatever network it is.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Except TikTok.
- 2:36Speaker 4: For some reason, we are just afraid of TikTok, and
- 2:39Speaker 4: I think it's because we have not yet invented the
- 2:42Speaker 4: Jedi dance. But we'll keep working on that behind the scenes.
- 2:45Speaker 4: So here we are with Chapter thirteen the Jedi, the
- 2:49Speaker 4: episode that the minute we heard in the eras Ahsoka
- 2:55Speaker 4: Tano's name mentioned, we were like, when are they going
- 2:58Speaker 4: to get to the cracker factory? And this episode kicks
- 3:01Speaker 4: off and we've got doings happening, and we've got light
- 3:07Speaker 4: white lightsabers showing, and we've got a new actress playing
- 3:11Speaker 4: Ahsoka Matt How ready were you for this episode and
- 3:16Speaker 4: how excited were you when that opening happened? Like take
- 3:21Speaker 4: us back to the first time you saw it, and
- 3:23Speaker 4: then here on the rewatch does that opening stilllicit the
- 3:27Speaker 4: same emotions out of you?
- 3:30Speaker 3: I mean, I think yes.
- 3:32Speaker 2: And the reason for that is is that immediately this
- 3:37Speaker 2: episode actually sets itself apart from all of the other
- 3:42Speaker 2: episodes that we've had in the Mandalorian by being so
- 3:48Speaker 2: stylistically done, Like there is a clear style that is
- 3:54Speaker 2: happening in this episode that didn't happen in any of
- 3:56Speaker 2: the other episodes. Right there, it is evoking all of
- 4:01Speaker 2: the things to which Lucas and Filoni kind of looked
- 4:07Speaker 2: to for inspiration. Specifically Lucas with all of the inspiration
- 4:13Speaker 2: that you would have gotten from something like The Hidden
- 4:15Speaker 2: Fortress or yo Jimbo or any of those other Kirosawa
- 4:19Speaker 2: films that Lucas was so fond of, and this episode
- 4:25Speaker 2: in many ways too, with its muted color palette and
- 4:28Speaker 2: all that kind of stuff, actually plays along the idea
- 4:30Speaker 2: of like almost kind of the more black and white
- 4:33Speaker 2: look too that you know, it's everything about this episode
- 4:38Speaker 2: is setting itself apart in that way to introduce us
- 4:43Speaker 2: back to this character that so many people either had
- 4:47Speaker 2: grown up with by this point, or like you and
- 4:50Speaker 2: I had just kind of fallen in love with with
- 4:52Speaker 2: the Clone Wars. And yet I, you know, I just
- 4:58Speaker 2: remember like watching Rebbels and jumping up and down when
- 5:01Speaker 2: Ahsoka Tano came down the ladder right, just being so
- 5:06Speaker 2: excited that she was alive. And then just the same thing,
- 5:10Speaker 2: you know, when she showed up later on, and then
- 5:14Speaker 2: the fact that to know that we were going to
- 5:16Speaker 2: get get her here was so incredibly exciting for me. Uh.
- 5:21Speaker 2: And it it's such an interesting episode opening to just
- 5:29Speaker 2: to be able to see one Jedi at work in
- 5:36Speaker 2: a situation like this and you know, the lightsabers coming on,
- 5:41Speaker 2: taking somebody out and everything goes dark again, you know,
- 5:45Speaker 2: and then taking somebody out and everything goes dark again,
- 5:48Speaker 2: and she disappears in the mist and It's just there's
- 5:51Speaker 2: something so evocative about everything that's kind of happening to
- 5:55Speaker 2: this and then her having this confrontation, you know, with
- 5:59Speaker 2: this magistrate and telling her she's got one day to
- 6:04Speaker 2: basically figure her stuff out or she's coming for her,
- 6:07Speaker 2: and it's like that is an opening.
- 6:12Speaker 3: It's an incredible opening.
- 6:13Speaker 4: And I love the fact that it immediately brings the
- 6:17Speaker 4: idea of the Jedi that we learned to love in
- 6:24Speaker 4: the prequel era coming back, that this is not Luke
- 6:31Speaker 4: who has just come into his Jedi rank, if you will.
- 6:35Speaker 4: This is somebody who is old guard, somebody who's used
- 6:39Speaker 4: to taking on huge tasks by herself, just using her
- 6:44Speaker 4: wits and her abilities.
- 6:46Speaker 3: And you know, I love what.
- 6:48Speaker 4: You're saying with the sabers and the disappearing into the shadows,
- 6:52Speaker 4: because this is a very very vibe piece, and it
- 6:58Speaker 4: does successfully of vote that feeling of the old movies
- 7:06Speaker 4: that really did inform so much of the visual language
- 7:10Speaker 4: of Star Wars. But additionally, I think that this is
- 7:14Speaker 4: one of those ones where the volume works extremely well
- 7:19Speaker 4: because there is not a tremendous amount of clarity needed
- 7:22Speaker 4: in the backgrounds, so a little fuzziness, a little fogginess
- 7:28Speaker 4: completely works to its advantage and actually makes the set
- 7:31Speaker 4: feel larger because my eye accept certain things more willingly
- 7:38Speaker 4: than other stuff, and so sad extensions and stuff like
- 7:42Speaker 4: that work a bit better this way. And I think
- 7:44Speaker 4: there's a real lesson there for it about how you know,
- 7:48Speaker 4: where the volume is most successful. But where I absolutely
- 7:53Speaker 4: love this show is how much it remains dedicated to you,
- 8:00Speaker 4: using gen x icons in supporting roles. Carl Weathers is
- 8:05Speaker 4: Grief Cargo, and then you, I mean honestly having you know,
- 8:12Speaker 4: John Carlo Esposito having Werner Herzog and then in this
- 8:17Speaker 4: episode Michael Bean showing up yep, and it's like, oh yeah,
- 8:21Speaker 4: I mean, at a minimum, everybody's like Johnny Ringo, but
- 8:25Speaker 4: everybody else is like Kyle Reese.
- 8:27Speaker 3: You know.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Also in The Abyss arguably still James Cameron's greatest film,
- 8:31Speaker 4: but whatever, that's just me so I and you know,
- 8:34Speaker 4: I'm right, stop making that face.
- 8:35Speaker 3: You can't see the face he's making.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Anyway, right because that movie's terrible.
- 8:39Speaker 4: But anyway, oh geez, just got on, you know what
- 8:43Speaker 4: it's not anyway. What I find very interesting about this
- 8:47Speaker 4: is this is the episode where we find out Grogu's name. Yes, yes,
- 8:52Speaker 4: so take me there, like, Yeah, what was your reaction
- 8:58Speaker 4: when you heard Grogu for the first time?
- 9:00Speaker 3: I remember my reaction. What was your reaction?
- 9:03Speaker 2: You know, I didn't really know what to expect for
- 9:07Speaker 2: the name, right, I mean, the we've known Yaddle and Yoda,
- 9:12Speaker 2: and but to expect that, you know, every species like
- 9:21Speaker 2: this is is you know, every every person of the
- 9:23Speaker 2: species is going to be a y name is silly
- 9:27Speaker 2: and so.
- 9:30Speaker 3: And I mean, I.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Think it was just one of the most interesting things
- 9:34Speaker 2: since that reveal that you know, the child was of
- 9:38Speaker 2: Yoda's species in the first place, that we were going
- 9:41Speaker 2: to actually play with this thing that we've never played
- 9:44Speaker 2: with before and possibly get to learn more about the
- 9:48Speaker 2: you know, the most elusive species in Star Wars, the
- 9:52Speaker 2: one we know the least amount about. Yeah, I mean,
- 9:58Speaker 2: to get the name, I I mean I didn't have
- 10:01Speaker 2: a problem with it. I think you know that they
- 10:04Speaker 2: had run into that. We all just called him baby
- 10:08Speaker 2: Yoda for so long.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Uh.
- 10:10Speaker 2: And but I think Grogu works, and I think what
- 10:16Speaker 2: actually makes it work was this is I was watching
- 10:19Speaker 2: this episode again and my wife was watching with me,
- 10:23Speaker 2: and that first moment where Ahsoka tells him Grogu's name,
- 10:29Speaker 2: and he says Grogu and g just goes huh and
- 10:34Speaker 2: it makes the little sound, you know, and Lea looks over,
- 10:37Speaker 2: you know, to Daddy because he's got his name said
- 10:40Speaker 2: for the first time by the guy he considers his dad,
- 10:43Speaker 2: and it's it's so adorable. Uh and and it and
- 10:48Speaker 2: it's so real too, you know, because like, uh, one
- 10:54Speaker 2: of one of my coworkers at the church, Uh, they
- 10:57Speaker 2: have a young son who is almost one, and so
- 11:03Speaker 2: he like he's walking and he's really starting to talk
- 11:06Speaker 2: a little bit now and everything. And so you say
- 11:08Speaker 2: his name and he looks over at you with his
- 11:11Speaker 2: big eyes, you know. And that's exactly what they pulled
- 11:15Speaker 2: off with Grogu as a character here. And I think
- 11:20Speaker 2: that's what helps you buy the name, regardless of what
- 11:23Speaker 2: it is. What did How are you feeling when they
- 11:27Speaker 2: dropped it And is it something that's like, yeah, you
- 11:30Speaker 2: just accept it now or do you still feel like,
- 11:32Speaker 2: I don't know, does that work?
- 11:34Speaker 4: No? See, I had a similar sort of thing where
- 11:37Speaker 4: I was like Grogu and it's like my reaction was basically,
- 11:42Speaker 4: what did I expect it to be?
- 11:44Speaker 1: You know?
- 11:44Speaker 4: Like what expectation did I even feel going into that.
- 11:49Speaker 4: I was like it was more of a oh okay,
- 11:52Speaker 4: like because there wasn't like a thing where it's like
- 11:56Speaker 4: Yoda Junior. Like, it wasn't a name like that, so
- 11:59Speaker 4: it's like, oh right, yeah, okay, that's his name. I
- 12:01Speaker 4: agree with you. The way they play it help sell
- 12:04Speaker 4: it very much, And I try to keep my brain
- 12:07Speaker 4: away from the fact that no matter how much we've
- 12:10Speaker 4: learned about Grogu, since I want to know who picked
- 12:14Speaker 4: his name because a name implies parentage and that usually
- 12:23Speaker 4: parents picked names, or was he left on the doorstep,
- 12:27Speaker 4: like because there's still, like you said, you know, he's
- 12:29Speaker 4: part of a species that in Star Wars they've purposely
- 12:32Speaker 4: left elusive. There's so much about Yoda that we love
- 12:39Speaker 4: and we don't know. Yeah, and I think that's great,
- 12:43Speaker 4: but like it's I think, if anything, it leaves even
- 12:48Speaker 4: more playful mystery about it, because I don't think we'll
- 12:53Speaker 4: ever know who named Grogu.
- 12:55Speaker 3: Why would we.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Well, and I think that there's something incredibly interesting about
- 13:01Speaker 2: that process as well with this episode, because we are
- 13:06Speaker 2: learning a lot about Grogu's pass in this episode. You
- 13:10Speaker 2: know the fact that he was at the temple, that
- 13:13Speaker 2: he had been trained by many masters in the sense,
- 13:15Speaker 2: and we get that sense right when we see the
- 13:19Speaker 2: younglings at the temple and they're being trained by the
- 13:22Speaker 2: different masters. You know, Yoda might be doing this class,
- 13:26Speaker 2: and somebody else might be doing this class, you know,
- 13:28Speaker 2: and Alo Secure is doing this class, and you know,
- 13:31Speaker 2: so uh he had apparently too, been there for a while.
- 13:35Speaker 2: And getting this sense of the way in which this
- 13:40Speaker 2: species lifespan works, you know that the process of training
- 13:47Speaker 2: and all of these things is going to take a
- 13:52Speaker 2: long time, but it also gives us this opportunity to
- 13:56Speaker 2: understand about this character that he is repressed most of
- 14:00Speaker 2: what he had learned at the temple because of the
- 14:04Speaker 2: trauma that he experienced during the Clone Wars and during
- 14:10Speaker 2: his his you know, being saved from the Jedi Temple
- 14:14Speaker 2: and then the subsequent basically bouncing around all over the
- 14:18Speaker 2: place until somehow, you know, he ends up in the
- 14:23Speaker 2: hands of the client. And so, I what's great about
- 14:30Speaker 2: the episode is how much it gives us. But every
- 14:33Speaker 2: single piece of information they give you through Ahsoka about
- 14:37Speaker 2: Grogu just raises like ten more questions. And I think
- 14:42Speaker 2: that's the beauty of the way that this is written,
- 14:45Speaker 2: because it gives you enough, but then it continues to
- 14:48Speaker 2: build on that mystery to where it's like, Wow, I
- 14:51Speaker 2: can't wait to you know the next time we find
- 14:54Speaker 2: out more about this character's backstory.
- 14:59Speaker 4: Well, I'm yes, and I think that there's additionally a
- 15:03Speaker 4: tremendous thing because we know that the Jedi the big
- 15:07Speaker 4: thing is about giving up attachment, and we know in
- 15:11Speaker 4: this episode visits very strongly the fact that Grogu is
- 15:16Speaker 4: having attachment issues. This is like you said, daddy says
- 15:21Speaker 4: my name. He sees himself as the Mandalorian's son. So
- 15:26Speaker 4: do we get this big thing again where it's like, oh,
- 15:28Speaker 4: I'm supposed to take him to the Jedi to be trained.
- 15:32Speaker 4: And there's a very interesting parental thing there where it's
- 15:35Speaker 4: like there is obviously this isn't a one to one
- 15:40Speaker 4: sort of thing, but there's always a societal sort of thing.
- 15:42Speaker 4: You see a lot of parents struggle with it. I'm
- 15:45Speaker 4: doing this because my kid is supposed to do this.
- 15:47Speaker 4: My kid is supposed to play sports, my kid is
- 15:49Speaker 4: supposed to study this, my kid is supposed to do
- 15:51Speaker 4: those things. And I think that there's a really beautiful
- 15:55Speaker 4: meditation here on the fact that it's about you're there
- 16:01Speaker 4: to help the kid figure out what they want to do.
- 16:04Speaker 3: You're not there to tell them what to do. And
- 16:08Speaker 3: you know, so there's.
- 16:09Speaker 4: That struggle, that tension that immediately really comes into focus
- 16:13Speaker 4: because once Grogu has a name, there's an implied agency
- 16:17Speaker 4: to him, and so that's going to be a difficult thing,
- 16:21Speaker 4: and I think that that is a really beautiful thing.
- 16:25Speaker 4: I think additionally, when we get to the assault on
- 16:31Speaker 4: Evil City let's just call it Evil City, at the
- 16:35Speaker 4: end of it really interesting fight. I love the droids
- 16:40Speaker 4: that they use in the fight. I love the fact
- 16:42Speaker 4: that it's the frightened townspeople. I love even and it's
- 16:46Speaker 4: inevitable because it's Dave Filoni thing that there's a very
- 16:51Speaker 4: implied fangorn forest or thank sort of vibe to what's
- 16:55Speaker 4: going on where the forest around has been laid waste
- 16:58Speaker 4: for industry. But we get to this beautiful fight, and
- 17:03Speaker 4: I mean I got to say, uh, you know what,
- 17:06Speaker 4: Judge me if you will, but a bit of a
- 17:08Speaker 4: crush on Diana Lee Inosanto at the end of this episode,
- 17:13Speaker 4: because I you know, I guess I have a liking
- 17:17Speaker 4: toward the evil ladies and especially ones that can fight,
- 17:22Speaker 4: and so seeing that fight between her and Rosario Dawson,
- 17:25Speaker 4: I thought was great. But we're talking about mystery. We're
- 17:28Speaker 4: talking about answering a mystery with Grogu, and we're i'll
- 17:31Speaker 4: talking about setting up other mysteries about Grogu. But then
- 17:34Speaker 4: during that fight at the end is the line that
- 17:39Speaker 4: shook me to my core where Ahsoka asks, and you
- 17:42Speaker 4: know what I'm about to say, what was your reaction
- 17:45Speaker 4: as soon as you heard Ahsoka mentioned that name Thrawn
- 17:49Speaker 4: at the end of this episode.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it was one of the most exciting
- 17:56Speaker 2: things that had happened in the Mandalorian up at this point.
- 18:00Speaker 2: And you know, I think we talked about last episode
- 18:05Speaker 2: that one of the things that was happening in that
- 18:08Speaker 2: episode is that you played with the larger hole of
- 18:12Speaker 2: the series, right, and the big questions and story points
- 18:16Speaker 2: that come from the Mandalorian itself an instance of the
- 18:21Speaker 2: show that we've created in the stories that we're telling here,
- 18:24Speaker 2: and this was the biggest example of the Mandalorian series
- 18:33Speaker 2: saying there's larger stories at play with characters that you know,
- 18:42Speaker 2: and we're giving you a taste as to what those are,
- 18:45Speaker 2: and they have to do with storylines that if you've
- 18:49Speaker 2: been watching Star Wars for a while, especially the animated series,
- 18:56Speaker 2: this is going to make a lot of sense to
- 18:58Speaker 2: you as why Ahsoka would be looking for Thron, because
- 19:02Speaker 2: the last time we saw Thron he had disappeared with Ezra.
- 19:08Speaker 2: And so it just opens up all of these wonderful
- 19:13Speaker 2: you know, uh can of worms that you just can't
- 19:18Speaker 2: wait to get more of. And so and also, I mean, look,
- 19:25Speaker 2: I again, having just re read the original Throng trilogy
- 19:31Speaker 2: and that series still holding up and still being good
- 19:35Speaker 2: and and and in many ways kind of being everything
- 19:39Speaker 2: that we wanted the original follow up to the original
- 19:45Speaker 2: trilogy to be. This also says, hey, well, we're in
- 19:53Speaker 2: that time period and we just mentioned that name that
- 19:57Speaker 2: you loved from those books. Yes, and that means and
- 20:02Speaker 2: in some ways there's a promise being made to the
- 20:05Speaker 2: fans here saying yeah, we're gonna do something with that,
- 20:09Speaker 2: so enjoy it. And it's just such a wonderful tease
- 20:13Speaker 2: and promise. But at the same time, and I gotta
- 20:17Speaker 2: say this before I ask you you know what you
- 20:20Speaker 2: thought of it? I think what it does best is
- 20:23Speaker 2: that it doesn't overshadow the story that we're telling for
- 20:26Speaker 2: the Mandalorian because Ahsoka won't train Grogu, but she has
- 20:36Speaker 2: an idea of a way to possibly find somebody who
- 20:39Speaker 2: might for them and then sends them on her way.
- 20:42Speaker 2: And so we do two important things. We set up
- 20:46Speaker 2: a big storyline outside maybe of the show The Mandalorian,
- 20:51Speaker 2: but the same time, we continue that storyline going. And
- 20:56Speaker 2: that's greatness. That's what you want, that's what you need
- 20:59Speaker 2: from these type shows.
- 21:00Speaker 3: And so, yeah, what did you think?
- 21:03Speaker 2: You know when we said Fraun, I.
- 21:07Speaker 4: Was practically like I had the same sort of reaction
- 21:11Speaker 4: I had when Maul showed up at the end of Solo,
- 21:13Speaker 4: a Star Wars story that my family famously made fun
- 21:16Speaker 4: of me for. Were like, my hands shot to the
- 21:18Speaker 4: side of my moe.
- 21:19Speaker 3: What what?
- 21:20Speaker 1: What?
- 21:21Speaker 3: Ye like? Did I hear that?
- 21:22Speaker 4: Right? Like? I was so excited about it because thra
- 21:25Speaker 4: On is you know, you you mentioned on the last episode,
- 21:29Speaker 4: you know, the Air of the Empire trilogy. Thra On
- 21:31Speaker 4: has been a part of my life in one expression
- 21:34Speaker 4: or another.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Since nineteen ninety one. Okay, that's a long time. Has
- 21:39Speaker 3: always been.
- 21:40Speaker 4: One of my favorite characters. That Star Wars ever created.
- 21:44Speaker 4: So to hear him mentioned in a live action show
- 21:48Speaker 4: as a tease for where Ahsoka's going next, I was like, like,
- 21:53Speaker 4: I you know it was.
- 21:56Speaker 3: It was.
- 21:58Speaker 4: Paralyzing how much I loved that moment and still do.
- 22:05Speaker 4: I still like, I look forward to it. I'll just
- 22:06Speaker 4: waiting for him say it, say it, say it thrown.
- 22:09Speaker 3: Yeah, there it is. Yeah. So yeah, absolutely love it.
- 22:13Speaker 4: Agree with everything you're saying, like it expands things out,
- 22:16Speaker 4: but it expands things out in a smart way. My
- 22:19Speaker 4: question for you is, we're we're starting to wind down. Honestly,
- 22:23Speaker 4: my question for you is when she said I know
- 22:26Speaker 4: of a Jedi, right, like, what was your excite? Like
- 22:31Speaker 4: what where? Where was your head going? Where were you know,
- 22:35Speaker 4: how excited were you getting at that point? Like what
- 22:38Speaker 4: was your speculative brain starting to do at that point? Yeah?
- 22:44Speaker 2: I think I think that the beauty of her saying
- 22:47Speaker 2: you know that. Then again, there are not many Jedi left,
- 22:51Speaker 2: and I think you know, obviously the Jedi that that
- 22:56Speaker 2: we know of that is left is none other than
- 23:03Speaker 2: than than Luke Skywalker, right that that would be the
- 23:06Speaker 2: other Jedi that comes to our mind. We're like, oh,
- 23:09Speaker 2: oh my gosh, are we are we going to go there?
- 23:13Speaker 2: And I think I think that's kind of the beauty
- 23:18Speaker 2: of the show, right in the sense of, Okay, we've
- 23:23Speaker 2: already we've already gone to a sosca, which you know,
- 23:28Speaker 2: didn't you thought we were going to do that? You know,
- 23:31Speaker 2: like anybody think we were going to kind of go
- 23:33Speaker 2: there with this show? And now it's like, oh, well,
- 23:38Speaker 2: you thought Ahsoka was great. What if we give you
- 23:41Speaker 2: the hint of like it could be Luke Skywalker And
- 23:46Speaker 2: you're like, what you know? I mean, so I think
- 23:50Speaker 2: that there's something that they're that they're doing in in
- 23:53Speaker 2: the in the series here that that's great in that sense,
- 23:56Speaker 2: and it's it's really exciting then as a fan where
- 23:59Speaker 2: you're like, oh my gosh, we we could be doing
- 24:03Speaker 2: the thing that I've kind of always wanted to see.
- 24:07Speaker 2: And I think, you know, not this this isn't just
- 24:11Speaker 2: a slam on you know, the sequel trilogy in general,
- 24:15Speaker 2: but you know, for those who had grown up right
- 24:22Speaker 2: with the EU and getting the opportunity to experience Luke
- 24:27Speaker 2: Skywalker as this wonderful hero where we where we really
- 24:32Speaker 2: got to dive into his stories, uh and and see
- 24:36Speaker 2: him become the man that you know, we we all
- 24:42Speaker 2: wanted him to be and see him get to be
- 24:46Speaker 2: a you know, a Jedi, right. I think that's the
- 24:51Speaker 2: kind of the beautiful part of that idea of like,
- 24:56Speaker 2: oh my gosh, we we really might we might be
- 24:59Speaker 2: going there, And that to me was just incredibly exciting.
- 25:03Speaker 2: And you know, again, there was a huge promise there
- 25:06Speaker 2: that they were making that I hoped that they would
- 25:10Speaker 2: fulfill because I did want to see that. So I
- 25:13Speaker 2: don't know what about you, John, how did you feel
- 25:16Speaker 2: at that moment. Did you feel the same way or
- 25:19Speaker 2: was there any trepidation for you?
- 25:22Speaker 4: No.
- 25:23Speaker 3: I I think.
- 25:25Speaker 4: That I thought to myself, in all honesty, there's no
- 25:31Speaker 4: way they're going to do Luke, Like because immediately I'm like,
- 25:34Speaker 4: it's you know, my first thought is like she's got
- 25:37Speaker 4: to be talking about Luke. But then another part of
- 25:40Speaker 4: me is like, there's no way they're going to do Luke.
- 25:42Speaker 4: And I think it's it's just sort of like a
- 25:44Speaker 4: reflex that I have sometimes where I'm like, I'm so
- 25:49Speaker 4: used to movies not giving me what I want. Yeah,
- 25:53Speaker 4: and you want ye, No, that's not what you want.
- 25:58Speaker 4: That Like I sort of have trained myself to keep
- 26:00Speaker 4: my expectations off.
- 26:02Speaker 3: I don't I don't want.
- 26:03Speaker 4: To go in and be like, oh, they're gonna bring
- 26:05Speaker 4: Luke back and then be sorely disappointed when I get
- 26:08Speaker 4: to that episode and be like, oh, I mean, yeah,
- 26:12Speaker 4: you know, sa c Tin's cool and everything, but like
- 26:14Speaker 4: I thought he was dead.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Right.
- 26:18Speaker 4: Notice I didn't say Plokuon because I would have thought
- 26:20Speaker 4: Plocuon would have been cool too, and with winning Ahsoka tie,
- 26:23Speaker 4: but like we all know, plocon died too, so you
- 26:25Speaker 4: know we saw that one happen. Well, we saw the
- 26:29Speaker 4: ship explode.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what Dave said, and we don't laughing at him,
- 26:34Speaker 2: so you know, yeah.
- 26:36Speaker 4: Well it also reminds me of a joke headline from
- 26:40Speaker 4: The Onion that way back in my first blogging days
- 26:42Speaker 4: over on the Star Wars dot Com blogging part of
- 26:45Speaker 4: the site, I borrowed the headline from The Onion in
- 26:50Speaker 4: all that you know that they made up for you know,
- 26:53Speaker 4: the back date had made up Elvis dead dot dot
- 26:56Speaker 4: dot is Elvis alive. And I said that about the
- 26:59Speaker 4: fact that to this day, I've got people saying, well,
- 27:01Speaker 4: Mace Windu could come back.
- 27:02Speaker 3: And I'm like, no, he can't know, but it's.
- 27:07Speaker 4: Like one of those things where people have just like
- 27:09Speaker 4: gone into that sort of that sort of thing.
- 27:11Speaker 3: If Plo Kun or Sacey Tin came back and be like, ah.
- 27:14Speaker 4: Was kind of stretching it, guys, I don't know, but yeah,
- 27:18Speaker 4: you know, I was just sort of like reflexively conditioning
- 27:21Speaker 4: myself to be like, don't don't don't even entertain it,
- 27:25Speaker 4: like just just be open to it. Just don't try
- 27:27Speaker 4: to hope for anything sort of stuff, because yeah, same
- 27:31Speaker 4: same thing you were saying, wanting to see the Luke
- 27:34Speaker 4: that I knew he should have been after a return
- 27:37Speaker 4: of the Jedi seemed a bit too much to hope for.
- 27:41Speaker 3: But well, and you know, he you know.
- 27:43Speaker 4: I look.
- 27:44Speaker 2: The other thing about this episode two that it does
- 27:47Speaker 2: is that it gives us a piece of information about
- 27:52Speaker 2: the time during the Empire, you know, Morgan Elsbeth and
- 27:55Speaker 2: her work here on helping supply what the Empire needs
- 28:00Speaker 2: to keep it Starfleet going. Fascinating stuff there that builds
- 28:05Speaker 2: that part of the world in just one line. I mean,
- 28:09Speaker 2: you've got little things in here like the HK eighty
- 28:12Speaker 2: seven droids from the Knights, the Old Republic game, you know,
- 28:17Speaker 2: the assassination and droids that's in there. I mean, there's
- 28:22Speaker 2: just all of these moments where and then the idea
- 28:30Speaker 2: of Tython right this planet at the end that we're
- 28:33Speaker 2: going to send them to, and you know, that's something
- 28:36Speaker 2: also that was in Legends with the Dawn of the
- 28:41Speaker 2: Jedi series, and so all of this together, I think
- 28:48Speaker 2: this is one of those places where we talked about
- 28:52Speaker 2: last week where you're just kind of opening the toy box.
- 28:56Speaker 2: But what I love here.
- 28:58Speaker 3: Is that.
- 29:02Speaker 2: The sequel trilogy was afraid to touch anything it felt
- 29:06Speaker 2: like Legends wise, and this is like, no, if it
- 29:12Speaker 2: was interesting or good or whatever, well it's already there.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Let's use that and utilize it for our purposes and
- 29:18Speaker 2: our story. And so all of those things that we
- 29:21Speaker 2: get here in this episode that reference things from Legends,
- 29:28Speaker 2: but they're utilizing for their purposes, it's like, that's fantastic.
- 29:33Speaker 3: I love it.
- 29:35Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah. But this episode, of course resolves Mandalorian still
- 29:44Speaker 4: hasn't completed his mission to reunite Groku with quote unquote
- 29:50Speaker 4: his kind, the Jedi, the magic Wizards that the Mandalorians
- 29:56Speaker 4: aren't huge fans of, and we're setting up another episode.
- 30:04Speaker 4: But let's not tip it off too much. Let's save
- 30:07Speaker 4: it for next week. So, Master Rushing, where else can
- 30:11Speaker 4: people find you out there in the wilds of the Internet.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Well, of course you could find me all over social
- 30:18Speaker 2: media under the name Matt Rushings there two. I am
- 30:21Speaker 2: here on the network with a completed show called owl Posts,
- 30:24Speaker 2: talking about every single chapter the Harry Potter series, one
- 30:27Speaker 2: chapter time, and then over on the TFM network doing
- 30:30Speaker 2: a bunch of shows talking Star Trek stuff with Chris Jones.
- 30:34Speaker 2: So I hope everybody will enjoy those and check those out.
- 30:37Speaker 2: And then you can also find you on the six
- 30:38Speaker 2: so two Club as we talk about all the franchises
- 30:41Speaker 2: that we love outside of Star Trek. John mill is
- 30:44Speaker 2: a frequent guest over there, and plenty of great episodes
- 30:47Speaker 2: for people to be able to listen to.
- 30:49Speaker 3: So yeah, do that.
- 30:50Speaker 2: But John, and you're not trying to figure out, you
- 30:53Speaker 2: know again, where you're you know, you may have had
- 30:58Speaker 2: a evacuation of those wonderful macaroons in while we were flying,
- 31:08Speaker 2: and now you need more. Where can we find you?
- 31:11Speaker 4: Well, you can find me co hosting a show called
- 31:13Speaker 4: house Lights here on the network with Tristan Ddell and
- 31:17Speaker 4: Darren Moser.
- 31:18Speaker 3: We have a time. It's a lot of fun.
- 31:19Speaker 4: Go on over and give it a listen, and you
- 31:22Speaker 4: can find me out on the wilds of the Internet
- 31:23Speaker 4: as Kessel Junkie, preferably on Letterbox Day Network that I
- 31:27Speaker 4: love to spend my time on.
- 31:29Speaker 3: So with all of that.
- 31:30Speaker 4: Master rushing, we're barreling toward chapter fourteen. This season is
- 31:36Speaker 4: almost winding down already what is happening, But you know,
- 31:42Speaker 4: I got to prep myself emotionally for what's about to happen, because, Man,
- 31:46Speaker 4: something happens in the next episode that really is a tragedy.
- 31:51Speaker 4: There are two tragedies, and we'll decide next week which
- 31:54Speaker 4: one is more tragic. And so I think it's time
- 31:57Speaker 4: to close these negotiations.
- 31:59Speaker 2: John, negotiations are closed. Join the Revolution, Join the Nerd Party.
