- 0:09Speaker 1: What's up, everybody?
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome back to another episode of Buco Territory here presented
- 0:14Speaker 2: by the Foul Territory Network.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I'm your host, Noahiles, and joining.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Me as always are Jay Hay aka Josh Harrison and
- 0:22Speaker 2: Mark aka Platinum Key Fellas. Some big news to talk about,
- 0:28Speaker 2: or maybe big news about potential big news. A lot
- 0:33Speaker 2: to get into on this show, and it all pertains
- 0:36Speaker 2: to a off season preview written by none other than
- 0:40Speaker 2: Jeff Passen of ESPN. I think everyone is aware. Everyone
- 0:45Speaker 2: is familiar with Passon's game. When he writes something, it
- 0:49Speaker 2: is it is relevant. You know, there was a lot
- 0:52Speaker 2: that was reported in that story where if it was
- 0:54Speaker 2: reported by someone else, I would be like, okay, you know,
- 0:58Speaker 2: we'll see the fact that it had Jeff Passon's name
- 1:01Speaker 2: on it, a guy who has been admittedly critical of
- 1:05Speaker 2: the Pirates organization. For him to report these things at
- 1:10Speaker 2: the very least, it makes me raise my eyebrows in
- 1:14Speaker 2: an interest. So we're going to get into it now.
- 1:17Speaker 2: The big takeaway from this Passing story is that the
- 1:22Speaker 2: Pirates are looking to spend money big spenders. They say, Josh,
- 1:27Speaker 2: you haven't had you haven't heard this one before?
- 1:29Speaker 3: Right, not not in association with the Pittsburgh Pirates, right.
- 1:35Speaker 3: But you know, things can be subject to change. So
- 1:38Speaker 3: who knows, maybe that big spenders with the question mark
- 1:40Speaker 3: may change to an exclamation point.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I mean, we'll certainly see. There's a lot to get
- 1:48Speaker 1: into here.
- 1:49Speaker 2: The big example that was listed in the story was
- 1:52Speaker 2: they offered Naylor double the largest contract that they've signed
- 1:57Speaker 2: in free agency, which is Francisco Leary.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I know you remember him dropping Three years, thirty nine
- 2:04Speaker 1: million was their deal for Larry Ao. Apparently they offered
- 2:08Speaker 1: Naylor about eighty million, which still wasn't enough. He signed
- 2:12Speaker 1: for five years ninety two and a half million. I'm
- 2:15Speaker 1: curious to see how many years they offered Naylor because
- 2:18Speaker 1: if they offered him four for eighty, it's a.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Higher annual value. He just signed for more years. But Mark,
- 2:26Speaker 2: I want to ask you what is being a big like?
- 2:30Speaker 2: What is spending more? When they say they want to
- 2:33Speaker 2: spend more, what does that actually mean? Because like you,
- 2:37Speaker 2: if I tell you, hey, I'm gonna eat healthier than
- 2:42Speaker 2: I did last week, that's.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Not saying much.
- 2:45Speaker 2: So what exactly does what exactly what you hear they're
- 2:51Speaker 2: looking to spend more?
- 2:52Speaker 1: What are you hoping that means, and what do you
- 2:55Speaker 1: honestly think that means?
- 2:56Speaker 4: Yeah, so obviously spending more is well, it can only
- 3:00Speaker 4: go up. Really, that's doing the bare minimum is spending more.
- 3:05Speaker 4: So yeah, it's not surprising that that's the plan, and
- 3:09Speaker 4: I think that's going to look like probably what's being
- 3:11Speaker 4: reported is spending maybe like thirty to forty million in
- 3:15Speaker 4: free agency, which not necessarily a lot, but at the
- 3:19Speaker 4: same time, that's a lot more than we had been spending.
- 3:22Speaker 4: So it is encouraging. It raises eyebrows, especially the source.
- 3:28Speaker 4: But also I think a lot of Pirates fans are
- 3:31Speaker 4: just jaded at this point and we'll believe it once
- 3:33Speaker 4: they see it and don't want to get their hopes up.
- 3:35Speaker 4: So I think that's where I fall into, is the
- 3:38Speaker 4: camp of this is nice to hear these things and
- 3:41Speaker 4: have my eyebrows raised, but really do something to shock
- 3:44Speaker 4: me that actually is concrete.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Here are two reasons I'm skeptical, well three, I mean
- 3:51Speaker 2: the first one is obvious, like it's the Pirates, right.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Number two is the word one.
- 3:59Speaker 2: In high school, Well, I wanted to go to prom
- 4:02Speaker 2: with Alex Morgan, the star player on the US women's
- 4:05Speaker 2: soccer team.
- 4:06Speaker 1: I shot her on Instagram DM.
- 4:09Speaker 2: I ended up going with Lizzie Strain instead shout out
- 4:12Speaker 2: Lizzie Stricken.
- 4:13Speaker 1: He married.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Yeah, Lizzie Resnick is her name now she has a kid,
- 4:17Speaker 2: beautiful family. But anyway, you know, you can want to
- 4:22Speaker 2: do things. But another way to have worded this, if
- 4:28Speaker 2: you were serious in my opinion, was we will be
- 4:31Speaker 2: spending more money m hm. And that brings up the
- 4:35Speaker 2: other point of contention for me is a little more
- 4:41Speaker 2: than a month ago or no, it would be two
- 4:43Speaker 2: months ago.
- 4:44Speaker 5: Now.
- 4:46Speaker 2: I interviewed the team president and I was part of
- 4:50Speaker 2: a group that interviewed the team president, and we asked
- 4:52Speaker 2: him point blank, will payroll be going up? And he
- 4:56Speaker 2: would not commit to saying yes. And we asked him,
- 5:00Speaker 2: will there be more resources allocated towards this team in
- 5:03Speaker 2: twenty twenty six? And his response was they had enough resources,
- 5:09Speaker 2: that they had the resources they had were sufficient to winning.
- 5:12Speaker 1: And then how did he end it?
- 5:13Speaker 4: Mark, I can't recall it, but it was oh, stop period, yeah,
- 5:18Speaker 4: full stop period, yep.
- 5:20Speaker 2: He said that about thirty times. That was his rehearse line.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I think he like looked in the mirror before, like
- 5:25Speaker 2: the press, we're going to drop this.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Bar on him.
- 5:29Speaker 2: But in all seriousness, it's like you could say, you're
- 5:33Speaker 2: going to do a lot of things right. And granted
- 5:36Speaker 2: we're recording this on November nineteenth, in the evening, it's
- 5:39Speaker 2: going to run on November twentieth. No one has really
- 5:41Speaker 2: spent any significant money and free agency yet. I mean,
- 5:45Speaker 2: you could say the Mariners have because they did they
- 5:47Speaker 2: signed a guy to a five year deal. Other teams
- 5:50Speaker 2: have made some qualifying offers, but the Pirates really haven't
- 5:53Speaker 2: had a huge opportunity to do anything yet because no
- 5:57Speaker 2: one else has. But this, to me should be met
- 6:02Speaker 2: with skepticism. And I'm not doubting the reporting of Jeff Passing.
- 6:06Speaker 2: I think everything that he was told was accurate. But
- 6:10Speaker 2: it's just, you know, you don't get brownie points for
- 6:14Speaker 2: trying in baseball, Josh.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I'm sure you tried hard every bad of your career.
- 6:21Speaker 2: My game, yes, but you only got to hit in
- 6:24Speaker 2: like thirty percent of them, right, So.
- 6:27Speaker 6: I wanted to hit in every game.
- 6:29Speaker 2: I want exactly you wanted to. So let's let's talk
- 6:33Speaker 2: about this. Do you think that this is something that
- 6:36Speaker 2: Pirate fans should be excited about? Josh, or do you
- 6:39Speaker 2: think this is just lip service right.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Now, I'm gonna say a little bit of lip service
- 6:45Speaker 3: just given the history of where we are with the
- 6:48Speaker 3: organization and what's going on. But to backtrack basically, what
- 6:53Speaker 3: you spoke on a month or two when you spoke
- 6:57Speaker 3: to the president, maybe it's a flu situation where he's
- 7:01Speaker 3: had a conversation or Bob has had some conversation with
- 7:03Speaker 3: some people that have made his comments from a month
- 7:06Speaker 3: or two ago be kind of eyewash. But at the
- 7:08Speaker 3: same time, you're never gonna you never will tell somebody
- 7:13Speaker 3: what you're gonna do exactly. So I think the way
- 7:16Speaker 3: that their wording get with oh we want to is,
- 7:20Speaker 3: you know, take it for what it's worth. People that
- 7:23Speaker 3: are really all into it, Oh you're going to spend
- 7:25Speaker 3: where you got other people that are gonna be skeptic
- 7:27Speaker 3: because they're because they're like, I mean, you can say
- 7:30Speaker 3: you want to do something, but until you really do it,
- 7:32Speaker 3: I'm not gonna believe it. So for me, I'm I'm
- 7:36Speaker 3: still big into the you gotta show me, you know,
- 7:39Speaker 3: and and I get it still early in the off season,
- 7:42Speaker 3: as you said, nobody's really been big spenders so far
- 7:44Speaker 3: have been some qualifying offers. I know Rule five you
- 7:48Speaker 3: know protection is coming up for guys. If it hasn't
- 7:50Speaker 3: already passed, I think it might have. And okay, so
- 7:53Speaker 3: as I know, teams are shortened through that, But realistically,
- 7:57Speaker 3: a forty mans spot isn't anything when you're dealing with
- 8:00Speaker 3: somebody that is going to make an impact on the team,
- 8:02Speaker 3: So you're going to make a spot for that. So
- 8:05Speaker 3: but but also think, you know, giving a Pirate situation,
- 8:08Speaker 3: I don't think a lot of free agents are going
- 8:10Speaker 3: to have them at the top of their list.
- 8:11Speaker 6: So in those in those you know moments.
- 8:17Speaker 3: They're they're probably going to weigh their options because you know,
- 8:19Speaker 3: given Pirate's history, they're like, maybe I can go somewhere
- 8:22Speaker 3: else and you know, you know, have a chance to
- 8:24Speaker 3: you know, make more money or possibly play for a
- 8:26Speaker 3: team that looks like they're trying to win. And until
- 8:29Speaker 3: the Pirates address some of those things that we've always
- 8:31Speaker 3: talked about, you.
- 8:33Speaker 6: Know, I'm still gonna leave that question mark. They're not
- 8:35Speaker 6: an exclamation.
- 8:37Speaker 2: I'm glad you brought that up, Josh, and I think
- 8:39Speaker 2: that's a great way to transition into our next topic.
- 8:42Speaker 1: But before we transition.
- 8:44Speaker 2: We need to take a brief pause to hear from
- 8:47Speaker 2: today's sponsor.
- 8:50Speaker 5: Holiday shopping season is here and we have you covered
- 8:55Speaker 5: from head to toe.
- 8:57Speaker 7: Let's take to talk about an area that's not quite
- 9:00Speaker 7: close to the toes. Let's get crazy with this holiday season. Yeah,
- 9:04Speaker 7: that's me Undies. I'm spinning around, but the holiday season.
- 9:07Speaker 7: Now you can get me undies with some holiday prints
- 9:09Speaker 7: on them.
- 9:10Speaker 5: That's right, ridiculously soft fabric holiday prints, matching holiday prints
- 9:14Speaker 5: with your special person. Or you can coordinate pjs for
- 9:18Speaker 5: the family photo. And right now you can get up
- 9:20Speaker 5: to fifty percent off with the code foul. We rock
- 9:23Speaker 5: me Undies. You should too. We're talking over thirty million
- 9:26Speaker 5: pairs sold. Knock out all your holiday gifting needs today
- 9:30Speaker 5: with me Undies. To get exclusive holiday deals up to
- 9:34Speaker 5: yep I said a fifty percent off, go to meundies
- 9:37Speaker 5: dot com slash foul and enter promo code foul. That's
- 9:41Speaker 5: m e U N d I e s dot com
- 9:44Speaker 5: slash f o U L promo code foul for up
- 9:47Speaker 5: to fifty percent off.
- 9:50Speaker 1: So guys, real quick, Noah transitioning over.
- 9:53Speaker 4: Let me just jump in really quick because I just
- 9:56Speaker 4: want to talk make one comparison about what the pirates
- 9:58Speaker 4: did here the way I gee it is. It's not
- 10:02Speaker 4: something they get be encouraged or be excited about, but
- 10:05Speaker 4: be encouraged about. Like I feel like it's like you're
- 10:08Speaker 4: like shy friend who never talks to girls finally walked
- 10:12Speaker 4: up to a girl at the bar and had a conversation.
- 10:14Speaker 4: He didn't get her number, he didn't walk away with
- 10:16Speaker 4: a girlfriend, but he did the prerequisit it to actually
- 10:19Speaker 4: finally get there and that that's encouraging. It's a step
- 10:22Speaker 4: in the right direction. But again, nothing's really set in stone.
- 10:27Speaker 4: So I'm encouraged, but not optimistic quite yet.
- 10:31Speaker 6: So all right, let's get that shot friend back out there.
- 10:34Speaker 4: Yeah, keep going down, keep going on.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Of shy friends going up and talking to girls.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Passing also reported that the Pirates went up and talked
- 10:43Speaker 2: to one of the hottest girls in the bar. As
- 10:46Speaker 2: far as free agents are concerned, I mean, Kyle Schwarver
- 10:49Speaker 2: seems like a nice guy. I don't know if he
- 10:51Speaker 2: piques my interest in that realm, but a baseball play
- 10:54Speaker 2: he certainly does. The Pirates are reportedly in on Kyle
- 10:59Speaker 2: swarp is what Passion said. I'm gonna go out and say,
- 11:06Speaker 2: I don't see that one happening. Schwarber is going to
- 11:10Speaker 2: command a deal that has an aav of thirty million
- 11:14Speaker 2: dollars a year, if not more. The Pirates again in
- 11:20Speaker 2: like another note on they want to spend more. This
- 11:24Speaker 2: is a team that, after it trades Mitch Keller away,
- 11:26Speaker 2: will have less than forty million dollars a committed payroll.
- 11:29Speaker 2: So in order to just get back to the mark
- 11:32Speaker 2: where it was on opening day last year, you're gonna
- 11:35Speaker 2: have to spend forty to fifty million dollars.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Now, granted, Kyle.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Schwarber fits in that, but would they Guys, let's just
- 11:44Speaker 2: say they do, go and get them right, they sign
- 11:47Speaker 2: them for four years, one hundred and twenty million. Is
- 11:53Speaker 2: that the best use of those resources? Are they just
- 11:55Speaker 2: a Kyle Schwarber away? I mean, I think that that
- 11:59Speaker 2: would help their pe are. Certainly, it would give a
- 12:01Speaker 2: huge morale boost and it would make the team better.
- 12:05Speaker 2: But would they be better off spending let's say they're
- 12:08Speaker 2: going to spend fifty to sixty million this offseason, would
- 12:11Speaker 2: they be better off spending that on three bats or
- 12:17Speaker 2: go all in on the best bat available? Sorry, Josh
- 12:24Speaker 2: or Mark Markhead.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Yeah, good, all right, all right, all right, all right, Well,
- 12:27Speaker 4: I think the previous strategy for the Pirates has been
- 12:30Speaker 4: obviously not that big of a chunk of change to spend.
- 12:33Speaker 4: But Ben's strategy has been to try and use the
- 12:36Speaker 4: budget that he has to acquire multiple pieces. So going
- 12:39Speaker 4: out and inquiring one big splash piece like a Kyle
- 12:43Speaker 4: Schwarber would be something new, and frankly, going out and
- 12:47Speaker 4: trying to spend spread all the money around cover a
- 12:51Speaker 4: lot of holes just hasn't resulted in much of a
- 12:54Speaker 4: change much success. You look at signing like Andrew Heeney,
- 12:58Speaker 4: Tommy fam ikf. If you take all those contracts and
- 13:03Speaker 4: put them into one guy, I think there's a chance
- 13:06Speaker 4: that the Pirates are better next year. You can only
- 13:09Speaker 4: start nine position players, right, so it the more aggregation
- 13:15Speaker 4: into talent into those nine slots, the better.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Counterpoint you do have to have nine players.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Yeah, So like that is like I don't know who's
- 13:27Speaker 2: playing d H right now, I don't know who's playing
- 13:30Speaker 2: in left field right now, I don't know who's at
- 13:31Speaker 2: third base.
- 13:33Speaker 1: So I mean that's that's kind of the question.
- 13:36Speaker 2: But I mean, Josh, I'll ask you from a player perspective,
- 13:38Speaker 2: would you rather, because I guess the answer would be
- 13:42Speaker 2: if they were to spend it all on like a Schwarber,
- 13:45Speaker 2: then you just find pre arb guys. Right, you would
- 13:47Speaker 2: do the Keller trade that we talked about in the
- 13:49Speaker 2: last episode, where you'd go get some young guys from
- 13:51Speaker 2: the Orioles, try to find two position players that way,
- 13:54Speaker 2: then you get Schwarber.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Those are your three bats. Josh, what.
- 14:00Speaker 2: I feel like when you played for the Pirates, you
- 14:02Speaker 2: guys were long waiting for that big move when you
- 14:05Speaker 2: guys got to it. I mean the big moves came
- 14:08Speaker 2: early with Burnett and Martin, but year after year, when
- 14:13Speaker 2: you guys started winning, you were waiting for that Schwerber
- 14:17Speaker 2: type of free agent signing to take you over the top,
- 14:20Speaker 2: and it obviously never arrived. They tried to do it
- 14:23Speaker 2: via trade with the Archer trade in eighteen, and we
- 14:25Speaker 2: know how that went.
- 14:26Speaker 1: But what does that do for a clubhouse?
- 14:30Speaker 2: When a team steps out of their comfort zone and
- 14:33Speaker 2: brings in an absolute dog in the offseason.
- 14:38Speaker 3: One that energizes the clubhouse. Not only that, I think
- 14:41Speaker 3: it energizes the fan base. And just the last episode
- 14:46Speaker 3: we talked about winning baseball players, and I said, the
- 14:48Speaker 3: winning baseball player doesn't have to hit thirty home runs.
- 14:50Speaker 3: But in this case, winning baseball player probably hits fifty.
- 14:55Speaker 3: But it's more than just the hitting of the home runs.
- 14:57Speaker 3: When you look at the Pittsburgh Pirates, what is their
- 15:00Speaker 3: identity as an offense? What is their identity as a team.
- 15:05Speaker 3: So you get my point exactly, it's hard to answer.
- 15:08Speaker 3: You bring a guy in with the likes of Schwarber
- 15:11Speaker 3: who can come in and have an identity to help
- 15:13Speaker 3: these guys that are on the verge of you know,
- 15:15Speaker 3: wanting to make an impact. Hey, you want to make
- 15:18Speaker 3: an impact, We've got to have an identity. It's a
- 15:20Speaker 3: guy that's been around, that understands the game, that understands
- 15:22Speaker 3: what it means to show up every day. But has
- 15:25Speaker 3: also played in Philly, has played in Chicago, has played
- 15:28Speaker 3: in these places where he's won, has also dealt with
- 15:31Speaker 3: you know, media, dealt with fans. But every clubhouse he's
- 15:34Speaker 3: been to, he's kind of been whether it was a
- 15:37Speaker 3: vocal leader or a silent leader, somebody that can, you know,
- 15:40Speaker 3: change the atmosphere of that clubhouse. And when you got
- 15:42Speaker 3: a young team that are missing a few pieces of
- 15:45Speaker 3: here are those three to four pieces that you allocated
- 15:48Speaker 3: his one salary? Are they going to make up for
- 15:50Speaker 3: what he really brings or what somebody to his statue
- 15:53Speaker 3: would bring. And sometimes that one player can't be quantified
- 15:56Speaker 3: over three or four players because the three or four
- 15:58Speaker 3: is still trying to make their right.
- 16:02Speaker 2: I will say this every time I go to a
- 16:04Speaker 2: Winter meetings or an All Star game or some national
- 16:07Speaker 2: event where all the writers are together, all the agents
- 16:10Speaker 2: are there, front office personnel, we all talk about, you know,
- 16:14Speaker 2: what are these guys like, what's this guy like, what's
- 16:17Speaker 2: this guy like to deal with?
- 16:18Speaker 1: How is he like?
- 16:18Speaker 2: And I don't know if I've heard better reviews about
- 16:22Speaker 2: a player than Kyle Schwibery. I mean, it is unanimous
- 16:27Speaker 2: that he is viewed to be one of the best
- 16:29Speaker 2: clubhouse guys in baseball. And Josh, like you pointed out,
- 16:33Speaker 2: everywhere this guy has played, they have won, from Chicago
- 16:38Speaker 2: to Boston to DC to Philly. I mean, look at
- 16:43Speaker 2: what that Philly team. Look at what that Philly lineup
- 16:45Speaker 2: turned into. The moment he arrived. He took them to
- 16:49Speaker 2: the next level and they've been the beast of the
- 16:53Speaker 2: East while he was there.
- 16:55Speaker 1: He's an incredible talent.
- 16:57Speaker 2: I mean, I think he lengthens a lineup because you
- 17:00Speaker 2: can bat him so many different places.
- 17:02Speaker 1: He was one of the best leadoff hitters in baseball.
- 17:05Speaker 6: This is yeah, oh no, he's gonna play. That's the
- 17:10Speaker 6: other thing. You got somebody like that.
- 17:12Speaker 3: You want somebody that wants to be in the lineup
- 17:14Speaker 3: every day, no matter who on the mountain right he left.
- 17:16Speaker 3: He this is a guy that that that right there
- 17:20Speaker 3: breeds confidence. But that also is for other guys that's
- 17:23Speaker 3: oh okay, yep. You know, people fit feet off of that,
- 17:26Speaker 3: especially for some people that don't necessarily have it, you know.
- 17:29Speaker 2: And right so, like you need him to bat lead off,
- 17:33Speaker 2: he could start off a game one nothing with one swing.
- 17:36Speaker 2: If you've got Connor Griffin coming up and you want
- 17:38Speaker 2: him to be a leadoff hitter, guess what Shortbert can
- 17:41Speaker 2: hit third, He can hit fourth.
- 17:43Speaker 1: He can do whatever you need him to do.
- 17:44Speaker 2: He's one of those guys where he is talented enough
- 17:47Speaker 2: where you can disrupt his.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Routine and he will figure it out.
- 17:51Speaker 2: And for those reasons, I just don't see the Pirates
- 17:56Speaker 2: being able to outspend someone that isn't a example of
- 18:01Speaker 2: there are only a couple of teams that can realistically
- 18:04Speaker 2: acquire a player like Kyle Schwarber, And in order to
- 18:07Speaker 2: get Kyle Schwarb to Pittsburgh, the Pirates are going to
- 18:10Speaker 2: have to dramatically outbid the likes of the Phillies, the
- 18:15Speaker 2: Blue Jays, maybe the Mets, who knows.
- 18:18Speaker 1: And I don't see that all of those teams, I
- 18:22Speaker 1: just I don't see.
- 18:25Speaker 2: I don't see that happening to a point where they
- 18:27Speaker 2: might be willing to offer him market value. But in
- 18:30Speaker 2: order to convince Schwarber to come play in Pittsburgh as
- 18:34Speaker 2: opposed to returning to Philly right where things have gone
- 18:38Speaker 2: really well for him for all intentsive purposes, or to
- 18:42Speaker 2: go to another contender, you've got to offer something different.
- 18:45Speaker 2: And Josh, you said it earlier in the show. Guys
- 18:48Speaker 2: want to go play places for two reasons. Either they're
- 18:51Speaker 2: going to get a better chance at winning a championship,
- 18:54Speaker 2: or they're going to get the biggest payday. And this
- 18:56Speaker 2: place doesn't really offer either of those things right now.
- 18:59Speaker 2: But I will say I think they can do that
- 19:03Speaker 2: as far as the overpay thing for other guys on
- 19:07Speaker 2: the market. Another part of the pass and report that
- 19:10Speaker 2: was really interesting to me is that the Pirates are
- 19:12Speaker 2: interested in the top two Japanese guys coming over this year.
- 19:19Speaker 4: I don't Kami, yes, I will try it.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Do you have the other one, Mark?
- 19:27Speaker 2: I don't, But Okamoto is his last name, and I
- 19:34Speaker 2: know one of these two, I forget what's yeah, I
- 19:37Speaker 2: believe it.
- 19:40Speaker 4: Yeah, Mirakami is the power. He's twenty five years old.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Yeah, And I believe he signed to the same agency
- 19:47Speaker 2: as Connor Griffin Way, so there is a connection there.
- 19:52Speaker 1: And if it's not him, it's the other way.
- 19:54Speaker 2: I know one of these two guys can Excel player,
- 19:57Speaker 2: which isn't anything. I mean, Excel is relations the Pirates
- 20:02Speaker 2: agency in the baseball community. But the fact that they
- 20:06Speaker 2: have a relationship, there are a lot of Excel athletes
- 20:08Speaker 2: in the Pirates organization, Kyle Nicholas, I mean, they have
- 20:12Speaker 2: tons of other ones. So the fact that they have
- 20:16Speaker 2: that connection is intriguing. And those are the guys where
- 20:20Speaker 2: if you are going to spend out of your comfort zone,
- 20:24Speaker 2: I think those are the types.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Of players where it makes sense.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Let let I mean, let the big dogs fight over
- 20:31Speaker 2: the big dogs that are established here, because you're not
- 20:33Speaker 2: a big dog. But if you want to try to
- 20:37Speaker 2: be different this offseason, I think spending more in the
- 20:41Speaker 2: international market, where candidly they have not been good enough.
- 20:45Speaker 2: They have not had a lot of hits in international
- 20:48Speaker 2: signings and international development.
- 20:51Speaker 1: I'm excited.
- 20:51Speaker 2: This is number year, number two for Max Kwan as
- 20:54Speaker 2: their head of international scout scouting, and everyone I talked
- 20:57Speaker 2: to in the Pirates front office says they are good
- 21:00Speaker 2: things about Max Kwan.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I'm still waiting to see why they say these good things.
- 21:04Speaker 2: But if they can lan one of these two guys,
- 21:08Speaker 2: that is a statement signing because you've seen how these
- 21:12Speaker 2: Japanese players have impacted the right and it's not just
- 21:16Speaker 2: in Los Angeles.
- 21:17Speaker 1: I mean you see it in Chicago, you see it
- 21:19Speaker 1: in San Francisco.
- 21:20Speaker 2: These guys are coming over here and they are plug
- 21:22Speaker 2: and play, ready to go difference makers that you've bat
- 21:25Speaker 2: in the middle third of the.
- 21:26Speaker 4: Lineup and just touching base on Burakami real quick. The
- 21:31Speaker 4: comparison a lot of people are making is Kyle Schwarber
- 21:34Speaker 4: a player that he could develop into and you're getting
- 21:38Speaker 4: him at twenty five instead of thirty two. It'll probably
- 21:41Speaker 4: still take a nine figure deal to get him signed,
- 21:45Speaker 4: but you have that the youth to really carry you on.
- 21:50Speaker 4: Murkami's intriguing. He Uh, the swing and miss is a big,
- 21:54Speaker 4: the big concern, especially on high velocity pitching. I think
- 21:59Speaker 4: he's like one and it's like over sixty percent on
- 22:02Speaker 4: any pitch over ninety two miles per hour or something
- 22:04Speaker 4: with the stat I heard. So the transition for him
- 22:07Speaker 4: to the majors could be a little concerning if you're
- 22:10Speaker 4: swinging and missing that much at high heat, because right
- 22:14Speaker 4: there is your your scouting profile just throwing fastballs. He
- 22:16Speaker 4: can't hit it, but he could also develop and you
- 22:21Speaker 4: don't necessarily see a guy with like seventy eighty great
- 22:24Speaker 4: power become available at twenty five all the time. So
- 22:28Speaker 4: it's an intriguing option. It I would be a little
- 22:34Speaker 4: apprehensive if that's where a lot of the Pirates' budget's going,
- 22:38Speaker 4: just because what if it doesn't pan out like they
- 22:42Speaker 4: would hope. Uh, then at least, I mean at least
- 22:45Speaker 4: they tried and guess what they're still on there. Yeah, yeah, exactly,
- 22:48Speaker 4: we're right back where we do something.
- 22:49Speaker 3: We're doing something different, but you're in the same place,
- 22:52Speaker 3: and Sanity is doing the same thing over a different result,
- 22:56Speaker 3: and to go off.
- 22:57Speaker 6: Of I don't even want to butcher his name.
- 22:59Speaker 4: You might saying for me Mark, Yeah, Munataki and Marikami.
- 23:03Speaker 6: Munataki, Marikami was that right? Okay? So you were talking
- 23:07Speaker 6: about the adjustment.
- 23:09Speaker 3: A lot of those guys that come from over there,
- 23:12Speaker 3: I'll be honest, struggle with velocity from the very beginning.
- 23:15Speaker 3: I think show Hay struggle. When he first came over,
- 23:17Speaker 3: he had a bigger leg kick. Now you see him
- 23:19Speaker 3: to tap. I played with Jung Ho Gong when he
- 23:22Speaker 3: came over from South Korea, and in spring training we
- 23:26Speaker 3: saw during batan practice, like, man, this dude has pop.
- 23:29Speaker 3: He is smashed and stuff. Spring training started, he might
- 23:34Speaker 3: have hit one hundred. You know, he's seeing ninety six
- 23:37Speaker 3: with cutters. He's seeing ninety eight minnar sinkers where he
- 23:41Speaker 3: never saw anything over ninety two. He took away his
- 23:44Speaker 3: leg kick and figured out, you know, putting his foot down,
- 23:48Speaker 3: and once he made the adjustment, there were some balls
- 23:53Speaker 3: that we saw him hit that were like you you've
- 23:57Speaker 3: never faced Trevor Rosenthal before he comes in, throws your
- 24:00Speaker 3: first pitch slider and you hit a three run home
- 24:01Speaker 3: Like we remember his first time against Trevor rosen Thal, Like, Bro,
- 24:05Speaker 3: he throws a hundred and you've never seen the.
- 24:07Speaker 6: Pitch you swung.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Got a first pitch slider, smoked it to the left
- 24:10Speaker 3: center and was like, okay, he's adjusted to you know,
- 24:12Speaker 3: taking his leg kickout because you know, they have a
- 24:15Speaker 3: difference in how they load, so that's gonna be a
- 24:17Speaker 3: little different. So when you start talking velocity, a lot
- 24:21Speaker 3: of them haven't seen it, but I have seen my
- 24:23Speaker 3: fair share of them, you know, guys that come from.
- 24:25Speaker 6: Japan, Korea, you know, overseas.
- 24:28Speaker 3: Once they make that adjustment, it's been pretty uh, I
- 24:31Speaker 3: don't want to say spot on, but that you know,
- 24:33Speaker 3: some of them have not had an issue. But spring
- 24:35Speaker 3: training is gonna be the big tail for them because
- 24:37Speaker 3: I would expect some struggle for anyone to come over,
- 24:40Speaker 3: you know, just from the beginning, but once they make
- 24:43Speaker 3: that adjustment, go ahead.
- 24:45Speaker 6: No, I was done.
- 24:46Speaker 2: I'm so glad you pointed that out because that is
- 24:49Speaker 2: like I mean, I don't need to tell you that's
- 24:51Speaker 2: spot on because you know more about baseball than I do,
- 24:53Speaker 2: but like that is like in Japan, it's like pretty
- 24:57Speaker 2: well known that they teach hitting a little differently than
- 25:00Speaker 2: do here, where the focus more here is getting more
- 25:05Speaker 2: power from your lower half. Right. It's like, while they're
- 25:09Speaker 2: more precision, they teach more contact and their back to
- 25:13Speaker 2: ball skills have just the way they play the game.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Especially over there, Bunting is such a more prevalent part
- 25:19Speaker 2: of their game, and just back to ball is the priority.
- 25:22Speaker 2: And that's where the leg kick comes into play because
- 25:25Speaker 2: it just gives them more time to get their hands shifted.
- 25:28Speaker 2: And like you mentioned with Otani, they teach them the
- 25:31Speaker 2: toe tap and all these other guys. I would much
- 25:34Speaker 2: rather teach a guy timing than I would back to
- 25:37Speaker 2: ball skills.
- 25:38Speaker 1: I think if I.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Had to pick one out of a hitter and say, hey,
- 25:42Speaker 2: this guy has one of these things down but can't
- 25:45Speaker 2: get the other, I would take teaching someone timing one
- 25:49Speaker 2: hundred times out of one hundred, because you could teach
- 25:51Speaker 2: anyone how to how to time something.
- 25:54Speaker 1: It's just rhythm. It's just teaching someone to be on
- 25:56Speaker 1: beat and just know.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Because if you could play base, if you can hit
- 25:59Speaker 2: a ninety mile prower fastball, if you work hard enough,
- 26:02Speaker 2: you can hit a ninety five mile power fastball. And
- 26:04Speaker 2: if you work, you know it's just it's just timing
- 26:06Speaker 2: and getting that right. Where if your mechanics are crap,
- 26:09Speaker 2: then good luck, you're in trouble.
- 26:12Speaker 1: So because you guys are potentially yeah.
- 26:16Speaker 2: I think there is there's a bowload of potential here
- 26:18Speaker 2: and we're we're just seeing. I mean, the floodgates are
- 26:21Speaker 2: haven't even opened yet, and I just think these are opportunities.
- 26:25Speaker 2: And one other quick opportunity I think where on the
- 26:28Speaker 2: note of spending big for the pirate standards and if
- 26:31Speaker 2: you want to be different and maybe outspend teams in
- 26:34Speaker 2: other areas. And this probably won't be a popular take
- 26:38Speaker 2: in my opinion, but this is again from the passing story.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Heam also mentioned that they might be willing to spend
- 26:44Speaker 2: big in the bullpen, and I actually love that because
- 26:47Speaker 2: rather that like you have so.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Many young arms now where.
- 26:53Speaker 2: You're going to cover a lot of innings naturally, like
- 26:56Speaker 2: they have at least eight or nine starters on this team,
- 26:59Speaker 2: and one or two will probably get hurt, one or
- 27:02Speaker 2: two will probably get traded, but that's.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Still it gets you. That's five.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Then you're good, and you have other guys who can
- 27:09Speaker 2: stretch out a guy like Majinski. You can cover multiple innings,
- 27:13Speaker 2: and Nicholas has been able to cover a couple of
- 27:15Speaker 2: innings here and there, and there are other guys they're
- 27:19Speaker 2: still missing that high leverage difference maker. Uh, like the
- 27:26Speaker 2: I wouldn't be mad if they did an errol Is
- 27:29Speaker 2: Chapman two point zero signing. It's not gonna be Chapman obviously,
- 27:31Speaker 2: because he got extended by Boston at the end of
- 27:33Speaker 2: this past season, but if.
- 27:35Speaker 1: You bring in and I don't.
- 27:37Speaker 2: I haven't really even looked at the reliever market candidly
- 27:40Speaker 2: because it's not been my biggest concern for this team.
- 27:43Speaker 2: But reading that article, I thought that is that is
- 27:47Speaker 2: something that will make a lot of sense because if
- 27:50Speaker 2: you can really just shure up the back end of
- 27:53Speaker 2: a game, even with Santana and Mattson, who were both
- 27:57Speaker 2: really good last year, you get a pre lefty to
- 28:00Speaker 2: pair with them, and you're really cooking with gas.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Stop.
- 28:04Speaker 4: Yeah, the Braves just signed Rice el Iglesias sixteen million
- 28:08Speaker 4: dollars deal tonight, so hm expensive for the back end closers,
- 28:14Speaker 4: but I mean they prove they're worth.
- 28:20Speaker 6: Inflation.
- 28:20Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, price going up, milk goes up.
- 28:28Speaker 6: But that might not be bad though either.
- 28:30Speaker 3: As you say mentioned and you know, plethorough starting pitchers,
- 28:33Speaker 3: as you say, somebody might get traded, somebody might be
- 28:35Speaker 3: pushed to the pen to be that you know, multi
- 28:37Speaker 3: ending game, you know, multi ending use. You know the
- 28:40Speaker 3: bridge that gap, and you know you're only as good
- 28:43Speaker 3: as you know the depth that you have, and you
- 28:46Speaker 3: know you see it all the time in the playoffs.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Once it gets to about the fifth sixth Inny. You know, starters,
- 28:52Speaker 3: if it's not that third time, unless it's somebody really cruising,
- 28:55Speaker 3: they're they're digging into the bullpen, they're playing matchups.
- 28:57Speaker 6: They you know, and the more options that you have,
- 29:00Speaker 6: you know, I.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Feel like a lot of managers like to be able
- 29:02Speaker 3: to do that, especially with you know, once the rules
- 29:05Speaker 3: get changed, you have to pitch the three batters.
- 29:07Speaker 6: You know that that changed a lot.
- 29:09Speaker 3: So you know, mentioning suing up that back end of
- 29:12Speaker 3: the bullpen, I'll be honest those yet and I don't
- 29:15Speaker 3: want to compare to the years that we had because
- 29:17Speaker 3: every year is different, but bullpen pitching. Granted, offense was good,
- 29:22Speaker 3: but pitching was one of our strong points. We got
- 29:24Speaker 3: to the back end of the bullpen. Tony Watson, Jason
- 29:28Speaker 3: Gridley Mark mall didn't matter, you know what I mean.
- 29:30Speaker 3: It's like, oh, we got to the seventh inning, good
- 29:32Speaker 3: luck to y'all.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Yeah it was.
- 29:34Speaker 2: It was a five inning game for you. If you
- 29:36Speaker 2: got to the sixth, that was it was pretty much over.
- 29:39Speaker 2: And and and I think they're they're they're not far
- 29:41Speaker 2: away from that now. Like, but I think, like, you
- 29:45Speaker 2: get that one, Yeah, that one dude who has really
- 29:49Speaker 2: been there, that's gonna make everything better. Final topic of today, Uh,
- 29:55Speaker 2: that was covered in Passing's report.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Uh.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Connor Griffin, big guy if you or a big deal
- 30:03Speaker 2: if you haven't heard of him, top prospect in baseball,
- 30:06Speaker 2: said the Pirates are strongly considering giving him an opportunity
- 30:12Speaker 2: to win the shortstop job out of camp. I want
- 30:15Speaker 2: to start here by saying I would hope they're considering it.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Like if it's like a non thought that the number
- 30:24Speaker 2: one prospect in baseball doesn't have a chance to break
- 30:27Speaker 2: camp with the team, I would say that's a problem. However,
- 30:32Speaker 2: is this the best idea? Josh, you know how hard
- 30:34Speaker 2: it is to play at this level. This guy has
- 30:36Speaker 2: played like six weeks in double as He's going to
- 30:41Speaker 2: be nineteen years old. At the start of the Major
- 30:44Speaker 2: League Baseball season next year. Even if he hits four
- 30:48Speaker 2: hundred in spring training, isn't their value in maybe just
- 30:52Speaker 2: letting him play a little bit in Triple A, just
- 30:55Speaker 2: to check that box and make sure, because this isn't
- 30:58Speaker 2: something that you can bank on to save twenty twenty six.
- 31:03Speaker 1: This guy is a lot more important than just one season. Right.
- 31:06Speaker 3: No, for sure, that's a slippery slope because, as you said,
- 31:10Speaker 3: he's only gonna be nineteen. So with that being said,
- 31:14Speaker 3: you don't want to put too much pressure on somebody, especially,
- 31:17Speaker 3: you know, feeling like he's got to come up and
- 31:19Speaker 3: be the biggest, big difference maker to you know, turn
- 31:22Speaker 3: Pittsburgh around from the past couple of years. But I'm
- 31:25Speaker 3: also a firm believer that if somebody is ready, they're ready.
- 31:29Speaker 3: But you know, spring training, as you say, it doesn't
- 31:32Speaker 3: really give too much of a tail. Granted, I've seen
- 31:36Speaker 3: dudes hit six hundred spring training come season starts, you know,
- 31:40Speaker 3: can't even hit their weight. And it's not to be funny,
- 31:42Speaker 3: it's just the nature of the sport. It's a tough game.
- 31:45Speaker 3: You can't get a real read off of spring training.
- 31:47Speaker 3: You can see glimpses of what potential can be. But
- 31:51Speaker 3: you know, for the most part, spring training is just
- 31:53Speaker 3: what it is, is getting ready for the season. And
- 31:55Speaker 3: I wouldn't put too much value in it. But given
- 31:58Speaker 3: what he's done for the past year throughout the minor leagues,
- 32:01Speaker 3: I don't think it's anything that you can't you know,
- 32:04Speaker 3: as you said, not entertained. You would hope that they're
- 32:07Speaker 3: giving him an opportunity to number one prospect in baseball,
- 32:10Speaker 3: given the season that he had this past year. See
- 32:13Speaker 3: what he's looking like in spring training, you know, get
- 32:15Speaker 3: him around the guys, see how he handles that. But
- 32:19Speaker 3: you know, I think if he does tear it up
- 32:21Speaker 3: in spring, why not give him a chance, especially if
- 32:24Speaker 3: they don't bring anybody in, because what's the point of
- 32:26Speaker 3: bringing somebody in if they're not gonna play. But it's
- 32:30Speaker 3: a slippery slope. But triple A would be a nice
- 32:33Speaker 3: little step in stone for him. But at the same time,
- 32:36Speaker 3: you know, guys used to make the jump from doubles
- 32:39Speaker 3: to the big leagues. You know, double edge to the
- 32:41Speaker 3: big leagues all the time. You know, sometimes you know,
- 32:44Speaker 3: the real difference isn't necessarily the ability to play, is
- 32:47Speaker 3: just the consistency, and if he's consistent at every level,
- 32:50Speaker 3: hey have at it. If if he seems mature enough,
- 32:53Speaker 3: I'm not opposed. I'm a big believer in you seeing
- 32:57Speaker 3: other guys coming up at a young age and being
- 32:59Speaker 3: able to make an impact. If he's that type of player,
- 33:02Speaker 3: if it's not too much pressure on him, give him
- 33:04Speaker 3: a shot.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Mark, what kind of juice would this give the fan base?
- 33:08Speaker 4: Oh, if Bob or sorry I almost say if Bobby
- 33:12Speaker 4: Wood Junior a little Freudian slip. Sorry, if Connor Griffin
- 33:15Speaker 4: aka Bobby Wood Junior two point zero, If he's on
- 33:18Speaker 4: the opening day roster, I this fan base has to
- 33:21Speaker 4: be going crazy because you get to go not only
- 33:25Speaker 4: to opening day it's not in Pittsburgh, but you get
- 33:28Speaker 4: to go the home opener and see the future face
- 33:31Speaker 4: of the franchise debut at PNC Park. It gives me
- 33:35Speaker 4: goosebumps thinking about it like this gets special. Obviously, you
- 33:39Speaker 4: don't want to rush and prohibit his development, you know,
- 33:42Speaker 4: overwhelm him, you know, make sure he's prepared for this.
- 33:46Speaker 4: But there's the Pirates have so many incentives, literal prospect
- 33:50Speaker 4: promotion incentives to call him up and have him beyond
- 33:55Speaker 4: this opening day roster, it would just it would be
- 33:59Speaker 4: a lightning and regardless of how free agency goes, but
- 34:04Speaker 4: even if if you have Connor Griffin and a big,
- 34:08Speaker 4: big name free agent both on this opening day roster,
- 34:12Speaker 4: you gotta be optimistic and excited because it would be
- 34:15Speaker 4: something completely different than what we've seen in the past
- 34:17Speaker 4: few years.
- 34:20Speaker 2: There have been three teenagers to debut as a shortstop
- 34:26Speaker 2: since nineteen ninety four. Their names are Alex Rodriguez, Edgar
- 34:31Speaker 2: Renteria and Jose Reyes. That's pretty special company.
- 34:36Speaker 6: That is.
- 34:41Speaker 1: My stance has long been could he do it?
- 34:47Speaker 6: Yes?
- 34:47Speaker 1: Like Connor Griffin.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Is going to be the best shortstop in their organization
- 34:54Speaker 2: when they report to spring. I still view Connor Griffin
- 34:58Speaker 2: as something where you don't rush his progression just to
- 35:04Speaker 2: save your twenty twenty sixth season. He's gonna be here
- 35:07Speaker 2: in twenty twenty six And if Paul Skiings, if they
- 35:12Speaker 2: could wait, you know, a month for Paul Skiings to
- 35:15Speaker 2: get here, what do you did abut on May tenth,
- 35:17Speaker 2: yep of twenty twenty four, you can do the same
- 35:20Speaker 2: for Connor because Paul made that team better, and yeah,
- 35:24Speaker 2: he probably could have made the team out of camp,
- 35:26Speaker 2: but you progressed him appropriately. And Connor's situation is different.
- 35:31Speaker 2: He's played a full year of minor league baseball. He's
- 35:34Speaker 2: still not old enough to drink a beer, so like,
- 35:39Speaker 2: and he won't be for a while, so like.
- 35:41Speaker 4: Get his exit on his hand, and you only play yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 35:45Speaker 4: he only played twenty one games in Double A two,
- 35:47Speaker 4: I mean, granted.
- 35:50Speaker 6: Very small sample size.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Sure my thought would be and I would probably sit
- 35:57Speaker 2: him down and tell him this, you know, I'd say,
- 35:59Speaker 2: if you want to be our opening day shortstop in
- 36:02Speaker 2: the major leagues, you need to make it abundantly clear
- 36:06Speaker 2: that you are the best player on this team in
- 36:08Speaker 2: spring training. That is a loft or that is a
- 36:12Speaker 2: high bar to set. I'm not convinced that he can't
- 36:16Speaker 2: do it, though, Like he is that good and if
- 36:19Speaker 2: he does it, then you have to reward him. But
- 36:23Speaker 2: if he doesn't, it's okay. It's okay because I think
- 36:28Speaker 2: they have enough placeholders between Nick and Zalez and Jared
- 36:33Speaker 2: Triolo and whoever else that you can get one month
- 36:37Speaker 2: of replacement level shortstop before you bring him in.
- 36:41Speaker 3: So well, the thing I wanted to go off on
- 36:43Speaker 3: that not to cut you off. Sorry about that, Noah,
- 36:46Speaker 3: you're good. Was the biggest thing for me. Wouldn't even
- 36:50Speaker 3: be offense. When you get to the big leagues. He's
- 36:52Speaker 3: playing shortstop. That's the middle of the diamond. How many
- 36:54Speaker 3: shortstops do they make a big deal about, Oh, this
- 36:57Speaker 3: is a rookie guy or young guy and they're talking
- 36:59Speaker 3: about him offensively, but they're like, oh, he leads the
- 37:01Speaker 3: leaguing errors or he does like me, defensive side of
- 37:05Speaker 3: the ball is the biggest thing. So my thing to
- 37:07Speaker 3: him is, we know what you can do offensively. Offense
- 37:09Speaker 3: is always going to do this one thing that you
- 37:12Speaker 3: cannot have do that is defense, especially a shortstop, that
- 37:15Speaker 3: is one of the most positioned, most important positions because
- 37:19Speaker 3: you're right in the middle. You got to catch, you
- 37:20Speaker 3: got shortstop, second base, center field, some of the most
- 37:23Speaker 3: important positions. And if he's going to be a nineteen
- 37:25Speaker 3: year old manning shortstop, I'm not worried about you hitting
- 37:29Speaker 3: three hundred with fifteen by all means, that's good. But
- 37:33Speaker 3: are you making the routine plays? Are you not giving
- 37:35Speaker 3: away any extra outs? That is the maturity that you
- 37:38Speaker 3: don't You don't want to rush because you know some
- 37:42Speaker 3: people make an error and it's the end of the world,
- 37:44Speaker 3: and it's like, how do you recover? Like, have you
- 37:46Speaker 3: seen have you seen you know him go through any adversity.
- 37:50Speaker 3: He's nineteen, he's young. This game will eat you alive.
- 37:53Speaker 3: Not wishing that on anybody, but you want to see
- 37:55Speaker 3: how he responds to oh, man, he made an air.
- 37:58Speaker 3: Oh but did he make the air because he wasn't
- 38:00Speaker 3: focused or was he rushing? Like the speed of the
- 38:02Speaker 3: game is faster, So these would be things that I
- 38:04Speaker 3: would be more concerned about. Offensively, I'm not really worried about.
- 38:08Speaker 3: It's the defensive side of the ball. That's That was
- 38:10Speaker 3: just my little note I wanted to add.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Oh, no, Josh, I will say if that's if that's
- 38:14Speaker 2: how the Pirates are thinking, then Connor Griffin is.
- 38:16Speaker 4: Going to be the open yeah for the shortstop.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Yeah, the defense is there, and I get that playing
- 38:23Speaker 2: playing in front of five thousand fans is a lot
- 38:25Speaker 2: different than playing in the major leagues, and the ball
- 38:28Speaker 2: is hit harder and the run the players run fast
- 38:31Speaker 2: like they're they're That is all valid, but yeah, I
- 38:34Speaker 2: think the gloves ready. It's just making sure that bat.
- 38:37Speaker 2: They want a guy who they would to call him
- 38:39Speaker 2: up and bat him lead off her second for the
- 38:40Speaker 2: entire season, and they just got.
- 38:42Speaker 1: To make it's exciting to think about. I mean this,
- 38:45Speaker 1: this show, if.
- 38:46Speaker 2: It goes the right way, I mean, man, you get Markmi,
- 38:51Speaker 2: Schwarber and Griffin in that lineup, and I think is
- 38:55Speaker 2: going to be I think going to go up to
- 38:58Speaker 2: the roof.
- 38:59Speaker 6: So yeah, we might back to oct.
