Transcript
- 0:18So, you know what, Jennifer, I'm really excited because here it is the middle of November almost, and there's no snow.
- 0:26Not yet.
- 0:26No, it's kind of nice out actually today.
- 0:28Well, it's supposed to stay nice, and you know what, if there's no snow until Christmas, I would be perfectly fine with that.
- 0:34Yeah, me too.
- 0:35And so, hey everybody, I know we talk a lot about that for those of you that live elsewhere, but you know, it's a big deal for us, no snow, because the rest of the year is snow.
- 0:45So, but I want to welcome you to another edition of Coffee In The Park with Jennifer and Cam, and we are coming to you live from The Wall Coffee Roasters in the heart of beautiful downtown Acheson.
- 0:59That's right.
- 1:00So if you hear some noises in the background, coffee machines whirring, people talking, all that kind of stuff, it's because we're in a live coffee shop.
- 1:06Wait, Cam, have they unveiled the holiday drinks yet?
- 1:08I don't think they have yet.
- 1:09Okay, when is that happening?
- 1:10I don't know, but you know, there's another major coffee chain that's doing a two-tiered unveiling.
- 1:16Did you know that?
- 1:19We shouldn't mention their name, two tiered? Starbucks, but they've released a couple of already holiday drinks.
- 1:24Well, I know I had, I'll be honest, I had the peppermint mocha from Starbucks.
- 1:28And?
- 1:29Well, it was good, but...
- 1:31Well, and so I was informed yesterday, actually by my daughter, who's a Starbucks aficionado because she used to work there, that December 2nd, they're releasing two more holiday drinks, it's just smart marketing, which one of them will be the eggnog latte.
- 1:45Well, they're bringing it back.
- 1:46They're bringing it back.
- 1:47But we're not doing this from a Starbucks.
- 1:50We're doing it from The Wall Coffee Roasters.
- 1:52So I don't know when, but as soon as they release here at The Wall, it'll be breaking news Cam.
- 1:57Well, yeah, we'll we'll make sure everybody knows what it is, because, yeah, it's Christmas and everybody's doing their thing.
- 2:03And so, yeah, so that's where we're coming from live today.

- 5:02Well, today, Jennifer is a different kind of show.
- 5:08Yes.
- 5:10So the guest today is Cam and...
- 5:13Is us.
- 5:14Is, yeah, you and I.
- 5:15Yeah.
- 5:17Because we got such great feedback.
- 5:21Yes.
- 5:21If you recall, now this was a while ago.
- 5:23Yes.
- 5:23We did a Pet Peeves show.
- 5:24That's right.
- 5:25That people keep saying to us, when is part 2 coming out?
- 5:29That's right.
- 5:29Because we have a lot of Pet Peeves.
- 5:31We do.
- 5:31And people thought, as they listened to Pet Peeve 1, those are all...
- 5:37I agree.
- 5:39That's my Pet Peeve too.
- 5:40Yes.
- 5:40And so today, we want to have Pet Peeves 2.
- 5:46We didn't start the show like we normally should.
- 5:48We should, hi, I'm Jennifer.
- 5:51You're supposed to say, no, hi, I'm Cam.
- 5:54Are you being me and I'm being you?
- 5:57Let's not confuse people.
- 5:59I don't even know why I said that.
- 6:02Hi, I'm Cam.
- 6:02And I'm Jennifer.
- 6:03And this is Coffee In The Park with Jennifer and Cam.
- 6:06There, we made it official.
- 6:08Because we always have our guests start the show.
- 6:10So yeah, so today we're going to do Pet Peeves.
- 6:13And some of them are Christmas related already.
- 6:16Well, you know what?
- 6:17It is that time of the year.
- 6:19It is.
- 6:20It is.
- 6:21Yeah, it is.
- 6:22But we won't spend all day telling you our pet peeves.
- 6:25Okay, so you go first.
- 6:29So just in case folks are wondering how we come up with these, it's mostly when Jennifer and I are either going to a meeting or sitting around and planning something.
- 6:38And all of a sudden we just start talking about things that really bug us.
- 6:42Right.
- 6:42Yeah.
- 6:43Right.
- 6:43It's organic.
- 6:44Everybody has a pet peeve.
- 6:46Everybody.
- 6:46Everybody.
- 6:47You can't tell me you don't have a pet peeve in life.
- 6:48I agree.
- 6:49If you're listening to us today, no, I don't have any.
- 6:52I would challenge that.
- 6:53Everybody has a pet peeve.
- 6:55And you know what, Cam?
- 6:56In fact, we want people, our listeners, to send us what their pet peeve is.
- 7:02Actually, I think that is a brilliant idea, Jennifer.
- 7:04I'm going to go one step farther on you.
- 7:06If you send us your pet peeve out of all the pet peeves you receive, we're going to pick one and we'll send the winner a $25 coffee.
- 7:16Where are we?
- 7:17Wall Coffee Roasters gift card.
- 7:19It's a rough day today.
- 7:20A Wall Coffee Roasters.
- 7:22We'll pick one and we'll send you a $25.
- 7:25There's a couple of ways you can do it.
- 7:27You can either on our Instagram page, you can send us a DM.
- 7:32Yeah.
- 7:33Or we'll tell you the email address you can send it to after.
- 7:37Right.
- 7:39So just send us your pet peeve.
- 7:41We'll pick one and you could use it yourself.
- 7:44Or you could give it away as a Christmas gift.
- 7:45And then we get to know what your pet peeves are too.
- 7:48That's right.
- 7:49So yeah.
- 7:49But keep it, you know.
- 7:51Yes.
- 7:52Yeah.
- 7:52You know what I mean.
- 7:53We don't need to go into that.
- 7:54No, we don't need to go into that.
- 7:56Anyway, okay.
- 7:56So pet peeves, you get to start.
- 8:01You know, this was a pet peeve of mine the other night.
- 8:05This is a live pet peeve.
- 8:07This is a live pet peeve, a true pet peeve So after work, I stopped at the grocery store.
- 8:12Right.
- 8:12Because I had to pick up a few things.
- 8:13Sure, yeah.
- 8:14Right?
- 8:14Yeah.
- 8:15People that do not put their shopping carts away.
- 8:18Yes.
- 8:19I agree.
- 8:20The parking lot was littered with shopping carts.
- 8:23Yes.
- 8:24They leave it either in the middle of the parking stall or on the edge that is impeding the parking stall.
- 8:32And why?
- 8:33I know you go to drive in, you wheel your car around, you have to hit the brakes because otherwise, you're going to take out a shopping cart.
- 8:40And you don't want to park in some of those spots because what if the cart rolls and hits your car?
- 8:44That's right, and scratches your car.
- 8:45And then insurance doesn't, they won't cover that.
- 8:49I agree.
- 8:50People, put your carts away.
- 8:52Is it just not common courtesy?
- 8:53I don't understand.
- 8:54Is it laziness?
- 8:55What is it?
- 8:55I don't know.
- 8:56You unload the cart, you get your kid in the car seat, whatever you got to do.
- 9:00Just, it takes what?
- 9:01Like 30 seconds to put the cart away.
- 9:03You know what?
- 9:03It's healthy for you.
- 9:04Get your steps in.
- 9:05Get your fitbit and get your steps in to return the cart.
- 9:08Be a good cart returning citizen, is what I say.
- 9:11Yes.
- 9:12Because somebody needs to park in that spot.
- 9:14I will admit, in my younger years, in my younger years, true confessions coming out.
- 9:20In my younger years, I might not have been the best person.
- 9:23I might have been a guilty party.
- 9:25But now that I'm older and wiser, I put my cart away every time.
- 9:33No, I agree, but when we were younger, we didn't know better.
- 9:37No.
- 9:38I don't think.
- 9:39And I'm going with that excuse.
- 9:42But you're right, we're older, we're wiser.
- 9:44And it gets worse, as Cam talked about, snow in Alberta in winter.
- 9:49It gets worse because people get stuck in the snow, and then they just...
- 9:54I know, it's a little bit of effort.
- 9:56The trouble is, though, it could be a great parking spot.
- 10:00And you know how that is.
- 10:01When the mall is busy, or the shopping center is busy, or the store is busy, if you score that great parking spot, and there's a cart there, now you have to get out of your car, your vehicle, and move that cart so you can park there.
- 10:15Oh, it becomes like a cart graveyard.
- 10:18No, it's a hassle.
- 10:20Okay, this is gonna turn into another Pet Peeve.
- 10:22This is like feeding off another one.
- 10:24You just talked about the mall.
- 10:27Yeah.
- 10:28Now, holiday season is coming.
- 10:30Oh, you're telling me.
- 10:31I was there.
- 10:33You'd think Christmas was tomorrow already.
- 10:35I know.
- 10:36What's the deal?
- 10:36I don't know.
- 10:37Like millions of people at literally millions.
- 10:40I'm not prone to exaggeration.
- 10:42Well, that's not true, but like literally millions of people at the mall already.
- 10:47It's a little ridiculous, but we talk about parking.
- 10:51Yeah.
- 10:52People get just right wound up around the holiday season in parking lots.
- 10:58I bet you there are more fights in shopping mall parking lots at Christmas time than in bars on a Saturday night.
- 11:05I'm not even kidding.
- 11:06No, I know.
- 11:09Let's talk about our younger days.
- 11:10I admit there I had a few skirmishes, but I was right.
- 11:17And they were wrong.
- 11:20Isn't that how it always works?
- 11:22Now, as you would say, now that I'm older and wiser, but you're right.
- 11:26People just like it's just get fired up.
- 11:28It's a hill to die on for some people.
- 11:30I know.
- 11:30You know what?
- 11:31I refuse from this point on to go near a mall on a weekend.
- 11:36I hear you.
- 11:36But even weekdays, like even at it unbeliveable, like do people not have anything better to do.
- 11:42I guess they could say that about me.
- 11:44I'm there.
- 11:45I always have purpose.
- 11:46I'm not there to just browse.
- 11:48No, I don't browse.
- 11:49But this goes back to the parking situation.
- 11:51Because, yes, you might find that prime parking spot.
- 11:55So my son and I get into this all the time.
- 11:59Because I tend to park further away and walk.
- 12:01And he's like, mom, there's a parking spot up there.
- 12:04That's right.
- 12:04But do you know why I park further away?
- 12:07Because sometimes when you get that prime parking spot, your doors get dinged.
- 12:10This is because everybody parks so close at Christmas.
- 12:14Which is the other thing.
- 12:15It's parking, crowding, hoarding.
- 12:18You got to respect.
- 12:20You got to respect space.
- 12:21Sometimes you can't even get your door open.
- 12:22I hear you.
- 12:23You got to have...
- 12:24And people, you got to...
- 12:26Okay, can I just say this?
- 12:28And we talk about Costco as one of our pet peeves sometimes.
- 12:31They have wide spots.
- 12:33They do.
- 12:33But somebody told me they're narrowing their spots.
- 12:36Did you hear that?
- 12:36Yeah, I heard that.
- 12:37Is that true?
- 12:38If I can say right now if that's true, that'll be a pet peeve.
- 12:40Can a Costco employee confirm that?
- 12:42We'll keep you anonymous.
- 12:45Let's go undercover to a Costco and just casually say, are you making your spots narrow?
- 12:51Anyways, I agree with you.
- 12:53I don't want my doors ding.
- 12:54So yeah, you park a little further away.
- 12:57And but then, you know, again, here in Alberta, that means it could be minus 30.
- 13:01And you got to walk a long way to the mall.
- 13:03And you know, you don't want to wear your hot winter jacket walking around the mall.
- 13:07This is so true.
- 13:07It's a problem.
- 13:09It's minus 30 out.
- 13:10So you're wearing your parka, your mitts, your whole bit.
- 13:13You get inside the mall.
- 13:14They turn the temperature up to like 1000 degrees.
- 13:18Again, no exaggeration.
- 13:19With a million people, again, no exaggeration.
- 13:22Now, it's 2000 degrees.
- 13:25And then you're carrying your bulky coat and you're wearing your winter boots.
- 13:28With your bags and running into people.
- 13:31And I know I said this in our last Pet Peeves, Pet Peeves 1, but it's still a pet peeve.
- 13:35People, when you're walking in the flow at the mall, the flow, there's a flow.
- 13:39Well, there should be a flow.
- 13:40There's a flow.
- 13:41And all of a sudden, your family of 12 decides to stop in the middle of the flow to have a conversation about where the nearest Dairy Queen is.
- 13:50This really bothers me.
- 13:52It causes bottleneck.
- 13:53You know, I think that the malls, although this is another Pet Peeve.
- 13:58Oh boy, there's a lot today.
- 14:01The mall should be like the right lane and the left lane of the highway and traffic.
- 14:05I totally agree with this.
- 14:06Don't you think?
- 14:07I always kind of thought there was.
- 14:09But not anymore.
- 14:11That's out the window.
- 14:13If you're slower and you want to shop and browse and talk, go to the right. Why can't they put arrows?
- 14:19Maybe for some people that'd be like COVID.
- 14:21Remember during COVID, in the malls, we had arrows.
- 14:24But I agree with you.
- 14:25Can they not put signs or lanes or, you know, and you know how in my car anyway, if I cross the yellow line, it vibrates or beeps.
- 14:35We can have things where we beep if we cross the line.
- 14:38We could.
- 14:39And there'll be no more bottlenecks.
- 14:41I guess.
- 14:42And the other thing is, is when you're coming out of a store, look both ways.
- 14:46Do not just bolt.
- 14:48It's like, is that how you drive?
- 14:50You just bolt into traffic from a side street?
- 14:54When you're coming out of the store?
- 14:56I know.
- 14:57You know what I'm saying?
- 14:57Do you know the other pet peeve of the mall?
- 14:59Boy, the poor mall is really getting it today.
- 15:02I love the mall.
- 15:02I'm not saying which mall.
- 15:04I'm just saying the mall.
- 15:05The mall.
- 15:06But hey, you and I had a meeting not long ago at the mall.
- 15:09Yes.
- 15:09Early, remember?
- 15:10We had to go to that meeting.
- 15:11Remember, there was nobody in the parking lot.
- 15:13I've decided this Christmas, if I have to go shopping, Christmas shopping at the mall, I'm going to go like at 7 in the morning, park my car, bring a pillow, and sleep till 9.
- 15:24Well, the fascinating thing was all the seniors doing the mall walking.
- 15:28Exactly.
- 15:28That's not a pet peeve, by the way.
- 15:29No, that was a good thing.
- 15:31And then they all stop off at A&W for breakfast.
- 15:35I think there's a special.
- 15:36I think there's a special, a senior's special.
- 15:38Anyway, I'm just saying, go early, like at 7, sleep for another couple of hours in the car, and you got the best parking spot in the house.
- 15:45Yeah, I know.
- 15:47Okay, well, there, we've covered the mall, we've covered parking.
- 15:51Okay, here's, I'm going to, this is one of my pet peeves that has arisen in the last little while.
- 15:58Again, for those who are watching baseball or are baseball fans, the Toronto Blue Jays were in the World Series.
- 16:03What a series it was.
- 16:04It was, we almost won that.
- 16:06I know, it was so exciting.
- 16:07Wouldn't that have been something?
- 16:10Anyway, okay, I was just getting over that, I shouldn't have brought it up, but can I just say I watched every game, I watched all seven games of the World Series.
- 16:20Can I just say, and I don't know about other countries or how they do it, I watched the Canadian Channel because it was the Blue Jays.
- 16:27The same commercials run about 10,000 times.
- 16:33I can now quote every commercial.
- 16:38I'll sing the jingle to one of you.
- 16:40Raise a little hell, raise a little hell.
- 16:43If you were listening in Canada, you know exactly.
- 16:45You know the business we're talking about.
- 16:47Homehard-, we're not going to mention.
- 16:49Did I just say the name?
- 16:52First of all, it just didn't fit to me the genre of that particular store.
- 16:57But every break in the game, raise a little hell, raise a little hell.
- 17:03I'm like, come on.
- 17:04While it might be a Pet Peeves, talk about effective marketing because you're talking about it and you're singing it.
- 17:09I disagree because I determined after about the 5,000th time, I'm never going to that store.
- 17:15I'm done with that store.
- 17:16I'm never...
- 17:17But can they not get enough commercials that there's variety?
- 17:21There's no variety.
- 17:22It's the same ad.
- 17:23It's the same with the Christmas ads.
- 17:25We're talking about it.
- 17:26And you and I, we don't watch a lot of mainstream TV.
- 17:29We watch like, you know...
- 17:30Streaming, yeah.
- 17:32But when you do, like seriously, people, it's the same ads.
- 17:36Over and over.
- 17:37Like, and I guess you're right.
- 17:39I guess they think if we see it enough, we'll go there.
- 17:42Maybe.
- 17:43Not me, man.
- 17:43I'm boycotting.
- 17:44I'm going to make a boycott list and I'm going to post it.
- 17:47And I'm going to, don't go to these stores because their ads are like everywhere all the time.
- 17:51Speaking of, I'm going back to traffic.
- 17:53Okay, let's go back to traffic.
- 17:55Yeah, well, traffic, we could go.
- 17:57That could be a whole show in itself.
- 17:59Well, but lately, what's really irking me about traffic, Cam, have you tried to merge onto a highway lately and the person in front of you merging on a highway that is 110 kilometers an hour is going 60?
- 18:14Yes.
- 18:15I can't take it.
- 18:15Right.
- 18:16And I don't know if it's because they're scared or they're confused or they're not sure of the merging process or how to do it.
- 18:22You don't merge at 60.
- 18:23No.
- 18:24And it causes accidents.
- 18:25I know.
- 18:26Or near-death experiences.
- 18:28100%.
- 18:28Because then people behind get mad and they zip out.
- 18:31Yeah.
- 18:32I agree.
- 18:33It's people you got to learn to drive in, like got to know.
- 18:37They used to call it the flow of traffic.
- 18:39The flow of traffic. There's no flow of traffic anymore There's no flow.
- 18:42No flow.
- 18:43And part of that, if I could just add to this driving highway, Pet Peeve, is people, it says right in the manual, I checked it.
- 18:51I went to the manual and I looked and it says, slower traffic, keep right.
- 18:55There's signs.
- 18:56There's signs.
- 18:57Yeah.
- 18:58There's signs.
- 18:58I know.
- 18:59People.
- 19:00When you're oblivious driving in the left lane and you're going slower than the right lane, that's a problem.
- 19:05I don't care if you're thinking about dinner tonight or thinking about next, what you're going to wear tomorrow or whatever.
- 19:12Move over.
- 19:13Just move.
- 19:14Be courteous.
- 19:15Be courteous.
- 19:16This is the word courteous.
- 19:17You know what?
- 19:18I think this all stems around our pet peeve.
- 19:20The lack of courtesy.
- 19:21Right.
- 19:22There's no courtesy on the highway, on the roads anymore.
- 19:26We don't let people in.
- 19:27Now, I admit, I at times, I don't, I admit, I admit, but I'm getting better because, well, I have people encouraging me to get better who drive with me, but I'm not going to mention any names.
- 19:40It's family.
- 19:41But I'm just saying, we have to be courteous.
- 19:44We do.
- 19:45Because you know, the worst, the worst road, and I don't care.
- 19:49Yeah.
- 19:49I just don't care at this point.
- 19:51In Alberta, where?
- 19:52The QE2.
- 19:52The QE2.
- 19:53I agree.
- 19:54The QE2.
- 19:55Now, for those that don't know Alberta, the QE2 is the highway between Edmonton and Calgary.
- 20:01The two major cities in Alberta, yes, Edmonton and Calgary, they were about what?
- 20:05Three hours apart.
- 20:06About that, yeah.
- 20:06Three hours.
- 20:07It used to be two and a half hours apart, but now, okay, when I was young, the QE2, there was like nine cars on the QE2.
- 20:16Now, there's nine million cars.
- 20:18It's too much.
- 20:20Can, Premier, you know I like you.
- 20:23Can we widen this highway?
- 20:25Can we get a few more lanes going?
- 20:27Because it's crazy.
- 20:28It's crazy.
- 20:29I drove it on Friday night.
- 20:31It didn't help that part of it was a snowstorm.
- 20:33I know.
- 20:34But nonetheless.
- 20:34I feel like you take your life into your own hands every time you drive that highway.
- 20:37It was unbelievable.
- 20:38It's very stressful.
- 20:39And then, again, people, when you're on a major highway like that, the speed limit is 110 kilometers.
- 20:45It's 110.
- 20:46So at least go that.
- 20:47Yeah.
- 20:47I'm not advocating anything, but it's 110.
- 20:51If you're not doing 110, move over.
- 20:56Right lane.
- 20:56Yes.
- 20:57Let cars pass.
- 20:58Yes.
- 20:59Because it's crazy.
- 21:00I know.
- 21:00It's just nuts.
- 21:01No.
- 21:02And it's going to cause major accidents.
- 21:03And the other thing, and Cam, I say this because we are in downtown Acheson.
- 21:08Yes, we are.
- 21:09And it is very industrial here.
- 21:12So there's a lot of transportation companies here with very big semis and trucks and loads.
- 21:16Big trucks.
- 21:17Big semis.
- 21:18There's nothing worse than when somebody is in the other lane in that semi's blind spot.
- 21:24Yes.
- 21:25That's right.
- 21:26Right?
- 21:26Yeah.
- 21:28You got to understand these things.
- 21:29You got to understand it.
- 21:31Okay.
- 21:32A little bit of education here, folks.
- 21:34Like, if you are tailgating a semi, he can't see you.
- 21:38Right.
- 21:38Yeah.
- 21:38Because you probably never thought of that.
- 21:40Oh, I just looked in his mirrors.
- 21:41He can't see you.
- 21:43No.
- 21:43He doesn't know where you are.
- 21:45It's a hazard.
- 21:45It's very dangerous.
- 21:46It's very dangerous.
- 21:47And we've seen accidents here.
- 21:49Yes, we have.
- 21:49And even on the highway, when you're on the QE2, you can't tailgate the semi.
- 21:53No.
- 21:54He can't see you.
- 21:55He doesn't know you're there.
- 21:56That's right.
- 21:56It's very dangerous.
- 21:58Plus, it's dangerous for the other cars around you.
- 22:00Yes.
- 22:00It's a good point.
- 22:01It is.
- 22:02It's a very good point.
- 22:02Sorry.
- 22:03That's not a pet peeve.
- 22:04It's an educational fact.
- 22:06I agree.
- 22:06But it is a bit of a pet peeve because you think people would know better.
- 22:09And I don't know what it is, but urban traffic is getting...
- 22:14It's the worst.
- 22:14It's just getting out of control.
- 22:16Okay.
- 22:16So another pet peeve.
- 22:18Okay.
- 22:19Pet peeve.
- 22:19Here we go.
- 22:20There's a lot of driving pet peeves today.
- 22:21Yeah, there is.
- 22:22Yeah.
- 22:22And I am going to make this statement, and it might be controversial, and that's okay.
- 22:26It's okay.
- 22:26It's all right.
- 22:27You can email us and let us know.
- 22:29I think that if you are going to get your driver's license, that you need to take the test in the winter.
- 22:38Oh, I agree.
- 22:40No, you can't take your test in the summer.
- 22:42I agree.
- 22:43Take it in July, piece of cake.
- 22:45A major snowfall in February.
- 22:46Take it in February when there's three feet of snow.
- 22:49And ice on the road and everything else.
- 22:50If you can drive in winter and pass your driver's test, that's right.
- 22:54You're good.
- 22:54I agree 100%.
- 22:56I agree, I agree, I agree.
- 22:57Because most people, and I'm not, there's just people, whether they're 16 year olds getting their license, or whoever new to Canada, whatever.
- 23:05You've never experienced driving in those conditions. In the winter.
- 23:08Ice?
- 23:09Snow?
- 23:09So yeah, you should have to, maybe you could go in the summer and get a provisional four month license and then re-test in February.
- 23:17I really think so.
- 23:17I know that's not, I know, right?
- 23:19I can hear it right now.
- 23:20You know what, that would mean millions of people.
- 23:21But I'm telling you, you gotta, they don't know how to drive in the winter.
- 23:25They don't know.
- 23:25No.
- 23:26And by the way, you have to get snow tires.
- 23:29You really do.
- 23:29I'm just saying.
- 23:30I know.
- 23:30Slicks don't work.
- 23:31No.
- 23:32And then we're pushing you out of the ditch and you're sliding all over the place and it's causing traffic backups.
- 23:37There's nothing worse than on a February night at 5 o'clock, minus 30, you're getting home and the roads are a mess.
- 23:44And that happens quite frequently.
- 23:46It does.
- 23:47It does.
- 23:48And makes me want to move.
- 23:49But what can you do?
- 23:52You live here.
- 23:53You got to do it.
- 23:53All right.
- 23:54Any other pet peeve?
- 23:55Any other non-road pet peeves?
- 23:57Oh, yes, I do have some non-road pet peeves.
- 24:00Again, as we go into the holiday season, a lot of people like to bake.
- 24:05Baking.
- 24:06I love baking.
- 24:07However, have you seen the price of some of these baking items?
- 24:13The price of groceries, period.
- 24:17It's ridiculous.
- 24:18To buy a nice steak, you have to take out a mortgage.
- 24:23It's unbelievable.
- 24:23To buy a bag of chocolate chips when you used to bake, a bag of chocolate chips used to cost like three bucks.
- 24:31Do you know what a bag of chocolate chips costs now in the grocery store? $47.50?
- 24:34Pretty much. Pretty close.
- 24:35$7.99 for chocolate chips.
- 24:37And that's the no-name brand.
- 24:40See, I agree.
- 24:43Why?
- 24:43Well, why is right?
- 24:45The cow is the cow.
- 24:47Like, okay, and I get it.
- 24:49The grain goes up or whatever.
- 24:50I heard there was a cocoa shortage, but still.
- 24:53But there's still enough chocolate.
- 24:54Have you gone anywhere where you haven't seen chocolate?
- 24:56No.
- 24:57There's chocolate.
- 24:57And you get half the amount in the bag, but I'm paying more.
- 25:02Okay, I would like, this is one of my Pet Peeves, is I remember, so for example, when I was a kid and bought Oreos, I love Oreos.
- 25:10Oreos was a big cookie.
- 25:12And they weren't a bad price.
- 25:13I guess relevant to whatever.
- 25:15They weren't, have you noticed the price goes up, but the size of the product goes down?
- 25:20How does that work?
- 25:22Isn't price go up more of a product?
- 25:25Price goes up.
- 25:26Now those Oreos, and no offense to Mr.
- 25:29Christy, if you're the one who makes them, you need a magnifying glass to see the Oreo.
- 25:33Yeah, and I feel there's fewer in a package.
- 25:35And you dunk it in the milk, and it goes nowhere.
- 25:39There's no soaking, no absorbing of the milk into the Oreo, because it's too small.
- 25:45But that's like with everything now.
- 25:47Everything, everything.
- 25:48You go through the grocery store, that box of cereal used to be gigantic.
- 25:53Now you're lucky if you get two bowls.
- 25:55Cereal is ridiculous! I know.
- 25:57You have...
- 25:58I was talk...
- 25:59Well, actually, I won't say who.
- 26:00I was talking to somebody just the other day, who owns a fast food restaurant.
- 26:08And they were talking about how even people with limited incomes no longer eat fast food, they can't afford it.
- 26:15Fast food has gotten ridiculous.
- 26:18Exactly.
- 26:20The Big Mac...
- 26:21We really shouldn't, but some of the burgers have gotten smaller, but you pay more.
- 26:26You pay more.
- 26:27The fry portions are smaller, but you pay more.
- 26:30Nothing is cheap anymore.
- 26:31I don't...
- 26:32It's...
- 26:33I...
- 26:33It's just...
- 26:34It's...
- 26:35And every elected...
- 26:37God bless the elected officials, where they're going to bring prices down.
- 26:41Good luck.
- 26:42Good luck.
- 26:43Good luck.
- 26:44How often did we hear that?
- 26:45Exactly.
- 26:46They've only gone up.
- 26:47I know.
- 26:48Beef, you can't...
- 26:49Again, you got to...
- 26:50You got to take out a loan.
- 26:51Yeah, it's ridiculous.
- 26:53Chicken, I don't...
- 26:54Listen, I don't know much about chicken.
- 26:57We're raising a few chicken.
- 26:58I don't know much about them.
- 26:59Eggs have gone up?
- 27:00Eggs have gone up.
- 27:01It's the same chicken laying the egg.
- 27:03I don't know.
- 27:04Like, there's nothing...
- 27:04It's not like...
- 27:06I don't know.
- 27:06Do you know the only thing that's gone down and it is affordable right now?
- 27:09What's that?
- 27:10Gas, Cam Gas.
- 27:11I know.
- 27:12But that fluctuates.
- 27:13It does, but it's been...
- 27:14It has gone down.
- 27:15Compared to what we used to pay.
- 27:16No, you're right.
- 27:17You're right.
- 27:17So that's not a pet peeve.
- 27:19So I guess you could equal it out and say, I pay less for gas and more for food.
- 27:23But you know what?
- 27:24I don't know.
- 27:24Why can't it all just come down?
- 27:26I don't understand.
- 27:27It's frustrating going...
- 27:28I really do feel for people on low incomes, limited incomes, because nowadays, you can't just can't afford it.
- 27:35You can't.
- 27:36No.
- 27:36I don't know about you.
- 27:39When I was in college, I was lucky.
- 27:40I lived at home, so my mom cooked, but I had friends who lived on their own and they were eating like Kraft Dinner and Ramen. Oh that was me, ramen noodles.
- 27:46Was that you?
- 27:47Yeah.
- 27:47Ramen noodles.
- 27:48Well, now, when ramen noodles used to be 10 packs for a buck.
- 27:51Not anymore.
- 27:52Now they're like 10 bucks for a pack.
- 27:54I know.
- 27:55It's unbelievable.
- 27:55I know.
- 27:59Sometimes I think you and I should be voted in as people who...
- 28:05Is there nobody?
- 28:06Is there not like a group or something that can control all this?
- 28:09Apparently not.
- 28:11Because it's a pet peeve.
- 28:12No.
- 28:12It's really driving me crazy.
- 28:14It's a monopoly.
- 28:15It's a monopoly.
- 28:16It's just nuts.
- 28:18So, wow.
- 28:19It's been 30 minutes.
- 28:21We've covered a lot of pet peeves.
- 28:24That's just a few.
- 28:25I guarantee you that's just a few.
- 28:28We could probably go on.
- 28:29We could.
- 28:30So thanks for listening to our pet peeves.
- 28:33And if you have a pet peeve, share it with us.
- 28:36Share it with us.
- 28:37www.coffeeinthepark.com.
- 28:40That's right.
- 28:40Or our Instagram.

- 28:44A DM.
- 28:45And like I say, we'll pick the best one.
- 28:46We'll send you a $25 Wall Coffee gift card.
- 28:50Yes.
- 28:50But just tell us your pet peeve.
- 28:52Tell us your pet peeve.
- 28:53And we're serious about that.
- 28:54And maybe on Pet Peeve Part 3, we might do a- We'll share some of those.
- 28:58Anonymous.
- 28:59No, no.
- 28:59Yeah.
- 28:59We won't use your name.
- 29:00We won't.
- 29:01It won't be, I was gonna say a name, but I'm not gonna say a name.
- 29:05It won't be, it'll just be, you know, anonymous from wherever sent in their pet peeve.
- 29:11That's right.
- 29:11And we can read that.
- 29:12Yes.
- 29:12And needless to say, all our pet peeves about the mall and the shopping things and the parking lots and all those kinds of things, still love Christmas.
- 29:22Yeah.
- 29:22Christmas is awesome.
- 29:23And we still have to go out and- Still have to go out, gotta shop.
- 29:26Gotta drive.
- 29:27Gotta buy stuff.
- 29:28Gotta drive.
- 29:31It's, we haven't even talked about insurance, but anyway, that's a whole other thing.
- 29:34But anyways, yeah, it's coming up.
- 29:36And we're, are we doing a Christmas show this year?
- 29:38I think we are.
- 29:39We're doing a Christmas show.
- 29:40That'll be coming up pretty soon.
- 29:42So thank you everybody for listening.
- 29:45Again, tell your friends, tell your neighbors, tell your enemies.
- 29:49If you don't have a friend, make one, so you can tell them about Coffee In The Park.
- 29:53Hey, again, we want to thank Wing Snob.
- 29:56Yes, and Mprint.
- 29:58And Mprint.
- 29:59And if you ever need to have something printed and you need to eat while you're waiting, go to Wing Snob and have, then you can print and do Wing Snob.
- 30:10Yeah, and they deliver Wing Snob and takeout, and Mprint.
- 30:15They deliver too.
- 30:16They do.
- 30:17They've delivered to me.
- 30:18That's right.
- 30:18My stuff and they're awesome.
- 30:20So yeah, tell everybody.
- 30:22If you don't have a friend, make one just so you can tell them about the podcast.
- 30:26Yes, and subscribe.
- 30:28Subscribe, subscribe, subscribe.
- 30:30Can't, say that.
- 30:30I can't say that.
- 30:32Ten times.
- 30:32Thanks for listening, everybody.
- 30:34We hope you have a great day.
- 30:35I hope you had a little bit of a laugh today, a little bit of a chuckle.
- 30:37You were probably nodding going, Yep, that's it.
- 30:40And again, we can't wait to hear your pet peeves.
- 30:42Send us your pet peeves.
- 30:43Thanks, everybody.
- 30:44We'll see you next time.
