- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, thanks for joining me for this episode of the Daily Rider Podcast.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: This is part of an overall series that we're doing on the writer's path: seven steps to building a writing business.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: So if you haven't caught the first probably eight or ten episodes in this series yet, I encourage you to go back and do that because this episode will make a lot more sense when you do.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: But if you're just not joining me on the podcast, if this is your very first episode or you haven't listened in a while, I think you're still going to get some value out of this.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Well, we have come to the final milestone in the writer's path, which is simply this.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: This is milestone number seven.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Practice key habits for wellness, productivity, and success.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Now, here's the honest truth.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Without key habits in your life, you will burn out or you will have some sort of a train wreck.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: I have seen it too many times in my life.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: I have, um obviously I'm not going to name any names, but over the last probably six or eight years, I have seen a number of writers and entrepreneurs that I personally know who've gotten very successful really fast, and they just crashed and burned in their personal lives.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Now, these are all good people, and my goodness, none of us are perfect, and none of us are immune to having train wrecks by any stretch of the imagination.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: But I've seen this many times over the last few years, people that I know and and care about and respect greatly.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Um, so it can happen to all of us if you don't have those key habits in your life.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Now, we all intuitively know that good habits are important.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Um, we're talking about habits related to our health, our sleep, our productivity, our mindset, our relationships, and so much more.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: But they're also really easy to ignore, aren't they?
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: In a way, this is similar to Stephen Cubby's seventh habit from the seven habits of highly effective people.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: And that habit is what he calls sharpening the saw.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: It is really tempting to cut and cut and cut and then never stop to actually sharpen the saw.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Whenever you try to cut down a tree without sharpening the blade, it's really, really hard because the blade is not able to do the work.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: It makes it so much easier when you have a sharp saw.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: And whenever you are practicing good habits in your life that make everything else much easier.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: And I think that's the big challenge of maintaining good life habits.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: It's easy just to cut and cut and cut without ever stopping to sharpen the saw.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Those habits are easy to ignore.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: It's easy to focus on creating and writing and building a business only to find yourself alienated from people that you love or in the hospital with a heart attack.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: So, whenever we talk about practicing key habits for wellness, productivity, and success, this is not really the seventh milestone in the sense that it's it's not really sequential related to the other ones.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: This is something you've got to have the whole time.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: This is really something that more surrounds the other elements, I suppose, in this writer's path, in this framework that we're talking about.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: These are just keys that need to be a part of your writing business in your life.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: I think good habits are a key part of life, no matter what stage of life you are in or what stage of building a business that you're in.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Well, here's today's question on a scale of one to 10, how would you rate yourself on having good habits?
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: And I want to encourage you to be honest with the score that you're giving yourself.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: All right, my friend, with that said, I'm gonna wrap up this episode and I will see you tomorrow.
