Brunswick County’s in crisis mode as it hits Stage Three water shortage — mandatory restrictions now in place due to severe drought. Nearly a third of the county is in exceptional drought, the worst level. No automated outdoor watering, no filling pools or hot tubs, no washing vehicles — even fire hydrants are off-limits. Fines start at $100 for first offense, jump to $400 for a second, and $600 for a third — with penalties up to $5,000 and possible water shutoffs after that.
