Latest / Jags A.M. / Ep. 85: Predictions for Friday Night Preseason Finale
Transcript
- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome into jag Zam. It's Thursday, August twenty second. We're
- 0:17Speaker 1: getting ready for the third and final preseason game of
- 0:21Speaker 1: the year. Welcome to jag Zam. This morning. Brian Texton
- 0:24Speaker 1: and John Osier are with me as we're getting ready
- 0:26Speaker 1: to get ready for that final game. Big thing number
- 0:29Speaker 1: one is the final tune up. We mentioned that the
- 0:31Speaker 1: starters are expected to go about a half in this game,
- 0:33Speaker 1: but Atlanta not playing any starters. So, Brian, what are
- 0:36Speaker 1: you gonna be focused on out there? Because they're not
- 0:38Speaker 1: going up against the first ring Atlanta team, But what
- 0:40Speaker 1: are you gonna focus about for our team?
- 0:42Speaker 2: Well, my expectations and I'm sure they're the same for
- 0:44Speaker 2: Doug and his coaching staff, or that we play well
- 0:46Speaker 2: so to speak.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Right, the offensive line has a degree of cohesion.
- 0:50Speaker 2: It's the first time we'll see all five of them
- 0:52Speaker 2: out there throughout camp. I want to see the defense
- 0:55Speaker 2: play fast like they have. I want to see my
- 0:58Speaker 2: special teams perform at a regular season level, even though
- 1:03Speaker 2: I'm only playing against twos and threes if that, because
- 1:07Speaker 2: last week in Baltimore, the Falcons sat a lot more
- 1:09Speaker 2: than just their starters. I want to make sure that
- 1:12Speaker 2: we're out there doing what we do.
- 1:14Speaker 4: If I'm Doug Peterson, yeah, I think the big storyline,
- 1:18Speaker 4: I don't know if we'll be able to judge it
- 1:20Speaker 4: that well, but is in fact that the five stars
- 1:23Speaker 4: in the offensive line are all playing together for the
- 1:24Speaker 4: first time. So I think they'll probably get a little
- 1:29Speaker 4: more of an extended run than they might normally because
- 1:32Speaker 4: it's the first time these guys have all played together.
- 1:35Speaker 4: I would expect because it's the first time, there to
- 1:38Speaker 4: be some hiccups. You'd like those guys to be coming
- 1:41Speaker 4: out of this game saying, Okay, we got all that aside.
- 1:45Speaker 3: We're ready for the regular season as close as you
- 1:46Speaker 3: can be.
- 1:47Speaker 4: And I do sort of wonder if maybe you get
- 1:50Speaker 4: Mac Jones a series or two with those guys after
- 1:56Speaker 4: Trevor's had a chance at him. I don't know that,
- 1:59Speaker 4: but it wouldn't supprize you if they sort of took
- 2:01Speaker 4: that tack.
- 2:01Speaker 2: You know, if I go back to last year's third
- 2:03Speaker 2: preseason game, John, they did pull Trevor in the second quarter.
- 2:06Speaker 3: He didn't go into the third, which.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Is, you know, kind of how you like to do
- 2:09Speaker 2: that last tune up before guys sit for a couple
- 2:12Speaker 2: of weeks. I wouldn't be surprised at all. In fact,
- 2:14Speaker 2: I think I would do it because he showed you
- 2:16Speaker 2: last week when he started what he's capable of. You
- 2:18Speaker 2: might as well get him some reps because if things
- 2:20Speaker 2: go right, he gets no reps with the ones the
- 2:22Speaker 2: rest of the way.
- 2:24Speaker 1: With the end of the preseason coming up, that means
- 2:25Speaker 1: we're gonna be looking at final roster cuts. So our
- 2:28Speaker 1: second big thing today is gonna be the fifty three.
- 2:30Speaker 1: That fifty three man roster cut down is on Tuesday
- 2:32Speaker 1: at four pm, John, I think most of it's probably
- 2:36Speaker 1: sat in stone at this point. But which group, if any,
- 2:38Speaker 1: do you think will be the hardest decisions to make.
- 2:40Speaker 4: On his It's it's tough because I think there's a
- 2:44Speaker 4: decision he made maybe six wide receiver deep.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Into the offensive and defensive lines.
- 2:51Speaker 4: But the reality also these days is once you get
- 2:54Speaker 4: to that spot, then there's a high percentage chance that
- 2:57Speaker 4: these guys you are gonna be on the practice squad
- 3:00Speaker 4: and coming in and off the roster.
- 3:02Speaker 3: So I'm not trying to avoid the question.
- 3:04Speaker 4: I just don't think as much about that hard fifty
- 3:06Speaker 4: three as maybe I did in nineteen ninety nine, when
- 3:09Speaker 4: when you shook these guys' hands, you were saying goodbye
- 3:12Speaker 4: to him. Now you're saying, hey, we'll see you next week.
- 3:15Speaker 4: And you know you're not making as much money as
- 3:16Speaker 4: you were, but you're so doing okay.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Yes, So.
- 3:21Speaker 4: I do think Brian, that the offensive line has some
- 3:24Speaker 4: interesting decisions on who they keep, who they try to develop,
- 3:28Speaker 4: who they have to protect.
- 3:29Speaker 3: I think those are the decisions.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Who are you going to let go and can we
- 3:33Speaker 4: get these guys back.
- 3:34Speaker 2: I'll give you two names that I think will be difficult.
- 3:38Speaker 2: One is Juvon Foster, the fourth round pick from Massou,
- 3:41Speaker 2: who has looked good on the training camp field and
- 3:43Speaker 2: has played well at times, but probably not ready to
- 3:46Speaker 2: help you. However, if you try to move him off
- 3:48Speaker 2: the roster and get him to the practice squad, you
- 3:51Speaker 2: risk losing him and big guys with potential, and I
- 3:53Speaker 2: think I've mentioned my conversation with Tony Biselli about him
- 3:56Speaker 2: three or four times, where BISSELLI was really impressed with
- 3:58Speaker 2: his feet, and that says something. Big guys with potential,
- 4:01Speaker 2: especially on the offensive line, they're hard to get to
- 4:04Speaker 2: the practice squad and they're hard to keep on the
- 4:06Speaker 2: practice squad. The other is Jordan Jefferson. We didn't see
- 4:09Speaker 2: enough from the young defensive tackle from LSU over the
- 4:12Speaker 2: course of camp because he wasn't healthy. But last week
- 4:15Speaker 2: in the game against the Buccaneers, he flashed. He made
- 4:17Speaker 2: a couple of plays. Again, big guys with potential don't
- 4:20Speaker 2: last on the practice squad. Well, that means maybe you're
- 4:23Speaker 2: trying to keep nine defensive linemen and ten offensive linemen.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Those two guys right there, at least to my way
- 4:28Speaker 2: of thinking, could complicate the conversations when they get into
- 4:32Speaker 2: those meetings early next week.
- 4:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I'd be surprised, kay, if those two aren't on
- 4:35Speaker 4: the team. I've heard that, but I'd be surprised for
- 4:39Speaker 4: the very reasons Brian said. If you exposed von Foster
- 4:42Speaker 4: fourth round pick, with that kind of size and ability,
- 4:45Speaker 4: he'll be gone in five minutes.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Let me complicate things a little further with our final
- 4:49Speaker 1: big thing, which is additions. Now, Brian, you talked a
- 4:52Speaker 1: little bit about what they're going to do with the
- 4:53Speaker 1: young guys, but also when other teams are cutting down
- 4:56Speaker 1: their fifty three, that means other people are going to
- 4:58Speaker 1: be available. Do you think there's a position group of
- 5:00Speaker 1: need that maybe the Jaguars are gonna be looking at
- 5:02Speaker 1: to try to grab somebody off the wave of wire,
- 5:04Speaker 1: you know it.
- 5:04Speaker 2: To be honest with you, I don't. I think the
- 5:08Speaker 2: obvious would be, well, you always want more pass rush.
- 5:10Speaker 3: But let's be honest.
- 5:11Speaker 2: When they cut players, they're not cutting players who rush
- 5:14Speaker 2: the passer really well. They're not letting those guys go.
- 5:17Speaker 2: And you signed a guy Trevis Gibson, who had been
- 5:21Speaker 2: with Bill Shoeley in the past, to be your third
- 5:24Speaker 2: pass rusher. You're not gonna go gamble on somebody that
- 5:27Speaker 2: the Seahawks or Cardinals or Patriots let go just because
- 5:30Speaker 2: you didn't quite see enough and you think maybe this
- 5:32Speaker 2: guy might be an upgrade. Those guys aren't sitting out there.
- 5:35Speaker 2: So I'll be honest with you, I think this roster
- 5:37Speaker 2: is in really good shape. You'd like these young guys
- 5:40Speaker 2: to develop, and I don't think i'd go bring anybody
- 5:42Speaker 2: in unless unless it was just absolutely a shocking name.
- 5:47Speaker 4: Yeah, you might see it at one spot. I can't
- 5:50Speaker 4: even tell you what spot it would be because I
- 5:52Speaker 4: feel like what Trevor said yesterday.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Is the deepest team.
- 5:55Speaker 4: This group mean, Trent Doug Trevor, that bunch has had here,
- 6:00Speaker 4: so no position stands out as hey, they need to
- 6:03Speaker 4: go get this. And there's a reality these days. I
- 6:06Speaker 4: think we talked about in the show that teams are
- 6:10Speaker 4: developing their guys, and they spend so much time during
- 6:13Speaker 4: the off season developing their guys that they get them
- 6:16Speaker 4: in their system. I don't think you'll see the Jaguars
- 6:19Speaker 4: go after guys on other teams if they're even close
- 6:23Speaker 4: to the guys they've already developed, because they know these
- 6:25Speaker 4: guys here, So I don't expect too much movement on
- 6:27Speaker 4: that front on Tuesday into Wednesday next week.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Stay with us here on JAGSA. I'm coming up after
- 6:33Speaker 1: the break. We'll hear but from QB one as we
- 6:35Speaker 1: get ready to take on the Falcons. Jag Zam brought
- 6:43Speaker 1: to you by Field's Auto, Jacksonville's premier luxury auto group.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Go to Fieldsauto dot com. Welcome back in with us.
- 6:52Speaker 1: We're getting ready for the final preseason game of the year.
- 6:54Speaker 1: It's gonna be in Atlanta. We head out today a
- 6:56Speaker 1: little over twenty four hours until kickoff. And you heard
- 7:00Speaker 1: from QB one yesterday Trevor kind of discussing I know
- 7:02Speaker 1: you guys alluded to this already, but he said this
- 7:04Speaker 1: is one of the most talented rosters that he's played with.
- 7:08Speaker 5: This is the most talented team for sure since since
- 7:11Speaker 5: I've been here, that we've had, and I think you
- 7:13Speaker 5: guys that watch it every day could probably say that
- 7:15Speaker 5: as well. So I feel really good. Obviously, that doesn't
- 7:19Speaker 5: win you the games, though. You got to go out
- 7:20Speaker 5: and play well and execute and put your best foot
- 7:23Speaker 5: forward every Sunday and keep your and stay focused on
- 7:27Speaker 5: the main goal is to go out there every series,
- 7:29Speaker 5: every play and go earn it. But as far as
- 7:31Speaker 5: a talent depth standpoint, I think this is the best
- 7:34Speaker 5: team we've had, definitely since I've been here.
- 7:37Speaker 1: John a lot of talent on the team, but doesn't
- 7:38Speaker 1: mean anything if they don't go out and win. So
- 7:40Speaker 1: how much pressure does this put on the situation? Obviously
- 7:43Speaker 1: it's his fourth year here and kind of progressing every year,
- 7:46Speaker 1: but now it's kind of expected with expectation.
- 7:48Speaker 4: I think there was gonna be pressure anyway with from
- 7:51Speaker 4: outside with the contract, with the fourth year thing that
- 7:55Speaker 4: I think I'm assuming his thought is, well, it's gonna
- 7:58Speaker 4: be pressure. I may as well have of you know,
- 8:01Speaker 4: the guys to go do it with that I trust
- 8:04Speaker 4: and believe in. And I get the feeling. And I
- 8:06Speaker 4: haven't had a chance to talk to him about this,
- 8:07Speaker 4: but I'm not even sure he would be honest, because
- 8:10Speaker 4: you don't insult the past stuff. But I think he
- 8:14Speaker 4: looks around and sees Gabe Davis, Brian Thomas Junior coming on,
- 8:18Speaker 4: Christian Parker Washington, Evan Ingram, Tank Bigsby, Travis Etn. This
- 8:26Speaker 4: feels like a group the twenty two team was really
- 8:30Speaker 4: going at the end, and that receiver group meshed and
- 8:33Speaker 4: you feel like they had something. But I think he
- 8:35Speaker 4: looks around and says, this is the best bunch of
- 8:37Speaker 4: skill guys, and not to leave the offensive line out
- 8:40Speaker 4: of just saying that bunch. I get the feeling the
- 8:43Speaker 4: receivers are gonna mesh, and I think they're excited about
- 8:47Speaker 4: what that might be in three or four weeks.
- 8:49Speaker 2: You know, just to go a little deeper on that.
- 8:51Speaker 2: There are also some guys like Deandis Johnson who has
- 8:54Speaker 2: a role, you know, who at times has been impactful.
- 8:57Speaker 2: And I keep hearing that at some point when Kilan
- 8:59Speaker 2: Robinson gets on and he's been struggling with the toe injury.
- 9:02Speaker 3: He's the same thing.
- 9:03Speaker 2: And then Brenton Strangers had a pretty good camp and
- 9:05Speaker 2: he's a guy there are just those were guys that
- 9:10Speaker 2: were always, you know, key backups like number two's and
- 9:13Speaker 2: now you're looking down and going well number three sor
- 9:15Speaker 2: if the guy's injured, they've got real depth here. But
- 9:18Speaker 2: it does all come back to him. As I look
- 9:19Speaker 2: at the roster, I think it's really good. I think
- 9:21Speaker 2: they've done a nice job putting the pieces together. And
- 9:23Speaker 2: it's on the quarterback.
- 9:25Speaker 1: It is, and it's also going to be on the
- 9:27Speaker 1: excuse me, offensive line. Because we've talked about them a bunch.
- 9:29Speaker 1: This is the first time we'll see all five of
- 9:31Speaker 1: them together. Trevor talked about that.
- 9:35Speaker 5: Definitely, just everybody, I mean, especially the guys up front
- 9:38Speaker 5: and feel in the pocket and get that's you know,
- 9:40Speaker 5: because I don't get hit out here and there it's
- 9:42Speaker 5: in the game. It's a different sense of urgency as
- 9:45Speaker 5: far as my time clock getting the ball out and
- 9:47Speaker 5: also just seeing different pressures and stuff, because there's sometimes
- 9:49Speaker 5: in practice you'll get you you'll get beat on a
- 9:53Speaker 5: pressure like I don't see it, and they bring they
- 9:55Speaker 5: make us hot, and in practice it's like I'm hot
- 9:58Speaker 5: in the game. It's like I gotta get out. I'm
- 9:59Speaker 5: gonna get smoked if I don't get out of here.
- 10:01Speaker 5: So all those different things, it just feels different. So
- 10:03Speaker 5: I think it's good to have your starting line and
- 10:05Speaker 5: to feel the pocket and to move around and kind
- 10:08Speaker 5: of test some of your protections as well, Like you
- 10:10Speaker 5: do some new stuff and you want to see how
- 10:12Speaker 5: it holds up against the live Look.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Right, this first time we're going to see that starting
- 10:16Speaker 1: offensive five together playing with each other. Trevor got banged
- 10:20Speaker 1: up at the end of last year. Some of that's
- 10:21Speaker 1: his own fault for running around.
- 10:22Speaker 2: But I'm focused on left tackle. I'm focused on a
- 10:25Speaker 2: left tackle because Walker Little last year gave up the
- 10:30Speaker 2: pressure in the Cincinnati game on which he hurt his ankle,
- 10:35Speaker 2: and at the season finale, Cam Robinson, just be honest,
- 10:40Speaker 2: was horrible against arden Key. He just had a terrible day.
- 10:44Speaker 2: These are guys who are highly paid, who are great
- 10:48Speaker 2: athletes and capable of playing at a very high level.
- 10:52Speaker 2: If Trevor is going to be able to stand in
- 10:54Speaker 2: the pocket this year, that left tackle is going to
- 10:56Speaker 2: have to stand up. And both of these are guys
- 10:58Speaker 2: who are in important years for them right because it's
- 11:01Speaker 2: the last year of each of their contracts.
- 11:03Speaker 3: So left tackle.
- 11:04Speaker 2: I know everyone's focused on center and left, right guard
- 11:06Speaker 2: or even left guard, but left tackle, to me is
- 11:08Speaker 2: where I'm going to focus my attention tomorrow night and
- 11:11Speaker 2: then early in the season because they have two very
- 11:13Speaker 2: good left tackles who at times did not play very
- 11:16Speaker 2: good last year and they need them to.
- 11:18Speaker 3: There's a lot to choose from.
- 11:19Speaker 4: I mean, a part of me thinks, you know, we've
- 11:21Speaker 4: talked about the offensive line so much for a year
- 11:23Speaker 4: that I just kind of want to shut up and
- 11:25Speaker 4: watch them on Friday. But you know, I think it's
- 11:29Speaker 4: fair to watch the interior. They signed Mitch Morse, but
- 11:33Speaker 4: Brandon Sheriff has been hurt most of the time he's
- 11:36Speaker 4: been here. Ezra Cleveland's new, and the interior is at
- 11:39Speaker 4: the topic last year. I have faith that I have
- 11:43Speaker 4: seen these two right and left tackles play at a
- 11:46Speaker 4: high enough level.
- 11:47Speaker 3: They know that I know they can do it.
- 11:49Speaker 4: I haven't seen this interior bunch play together and do
- 11:53Speaker 4: what they need to do, So that's.
- 11:54Speaker 3: What I'll be watching.
- 11:55Speaker 1: How long does it take to get that down? I mean,
- 11:56Speaker 1: they talk about it being so important and we haven't
- 11:59Speaker 1: seen them all together. So is one game gonna do it?
- 12:01Speaker 1: Or is it gonna be in the season. They're figuring
- 12:02Speaker 1: it out.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Probably degrees. I mean I I I I I.
- 12:06Speaker 4: Even Mitch Morris, when he spoke to the media a
- 12:07Speaker 4: couple of weeks back, talked about how difficult it is
- 12:11Speaker 4: for an offensive line and the way you prepare it
- 12:13Speaker 4: in the NFL these days because you don't have a
- 12:16Speaker 4: lot of contact situations, and he even Press Taylor's talked
- 12:20Speaker 4: about it on the podium a couple of times.
- 12:21Speaker 3: You just can't judge what they do until.
- 12:24Speaker 4: You see them going live, full contact, and that's where
- 12:27Speaker 4: you get chemistry. So you hope they're okay to start
- 12:30Speaker 4: and then a lot better at the end.
- 12:33Speaker 2: If they all play close to their potential, it'd be
- 12:36Speaker 2: a really good offensive line, but we won't know that.
- 12:40Speaker 2: And then you've got Mitch Morse in the middle of it,
- 12:42Speaker 2: who's was brought in to be a leader as well
- 12:45Speaker 2: as you know, a road grader upfront, and he's got
- 12:47Speaker 2: to figure out and he has to be in the
- 12:49Speaker 2: live bullets to figure that out.
- 12:51Speaker 1: We're gonna see it all in action on Friday night
- 12:54Speaker 1: against Atlanta. Say with us here on Jagsam, we get
- 12:56Speaker 1: ready to tell you who we're looking at as key
- 12:58Speaker 1: players in that game on Friday. Said at this Floria's
- 13:06Speaker 1: Trusted and Reliable Moving company said it is proud to
- 13:09Speaker 1: be the official moving company of the Jacksonville Jaguars. To
- 13:11Speaker 1: get a guaranteed quote, visit suttith dot com slash Jacks.
- 13:17Speaker 1: All right, guys, and finally have reached the end of
- 13:19Speaker 1: the preseason almost we have our final game on Friday
- 13:22Speaker 1: in Atlanta against the Falcons. We're gonna travel today, so
- 13:25Speaker 1: we're looking ahead. Who are some names we know the
- 13:28Speaker 1: starters will be in at least the first quarter, hopefully
- 13:30Speaker 1: the whole first half. Who's somebody you're looking at in
- 13:32Speaker 1: this game?
- 13:32Speaker 2: Brand look at a chat Muma because the move to
- 13:35Speaker 2: the strong side backer. He was an inside backer in
- 13:39Speaker 2: the three to four scheme and in Ryan Nielsen's new scheme,
- 13:42Speaker 2: he's a four to three and Pier is well suited
- 13:44Speaker 2: for the guy who plays up on the line of scrimmage.
- 13:46Speaker 2: And I think he will continue to make his case
- 13:49Speaker 2: for it in his third season. It won't be a
- 13:52Speaker 2: given though, because your sir of Doulah is also making
- 13:55Speaker 2: a transition right. He was more of an edge rusher
- 13:57Speaker 2: outside linebacker in the job Allen Mold last year as
- 14:01Speaker 2: a rookie, because that's what he did at Louisville. But
- 14:05Speaker 2: he was on the line of scrimmage last week, made
- 14:07Speaker 2: a nice job to shed the tackle and duck in
- 14:10Speaker 2: underneath and make the play on the running back at
- 14:12Speaker 2: the line of scrimmage. And he's a guy who's really
- 14:14Speaker 2: starting to grasp what they want him to do on
- 14:16Speaker 2: the strong side. But I think Chad Mumma might be
- 14:21Speaker 2: in a position to really have an impactful year. He
- 14:24Speaker 2: is a sure tackler as you just saw right there,
- 14:27Speaker 2: and is a guy who has a lot of I
- 14:31Speaker 2: say this to people, go I can't make a comparison,
- 14:33Speaker 2: but he has a lot of the puzz lesniy traits
- 14:35Speaker 2: in terms of his the way that he studies the game,
- 14:38Speaker 2: the way that he understands where to be. He gets
- 14:41Speaker 2: the most out of his ability because of his work
- 14:45Speaker 2: ethic and Paul pus Leslie did that so masterfully, always
- 14:48Speaker 2: put himself in a position to make a play. And
- 14:50Speaker 2: I see a lot of those traits again, traits not
- 14:53Speaker 2: saying he's Gulfos Lesnie. It's not a comparison, it's just
- 14:57Speaker 2: looking and being able to see a.
- 14:58Speaker 4: Couple of traits, thank you, compared to pause.
- 15:01Speaker 2: But I think he would not be listening to me though.
- 15:03Speaker 4: He mom is interesting because when you watched him in college,
- 15:09Speaker 4: and you can't compare his level in college that he
- 15:11Speaker 4: played against the NFL.
- 15:13Speaker 3: But there were traits.
- 15:14Speaker 4: As Brian said, this guy ran, he hit, He made
- 15:18Speaker 4: big time speed athletic plays that hasn't really shown up
- 15:22Speaker 4: in the NFL. And I guess he's playing against faster competition.
- 15:25Speaker 4: But I expected more flash the first two years. We've
- 15:28Speaker 4: seen that a little more now. So you get the
- 15:31Speaker 4: idea that you know, some guys when they come into
- 15:33Speaker 4: the league, he say, well, scheme fit, and that's not
- 15:35Speaker 4: really what it is. They just can't play with him.
- 15:37Speaker 4: You think, well, maybe he fits this scheme. And I'm
- 15:40Speaker 4: with Brian. I think he could be an interesting guy
- 15:42Speaker 4: this season.
- 15:42Speaker 3: He told me on on What Is Today?
- 15:44Speaker 2: He told me on Tuesday that he really thinks that
- 15:47Speaker 2: that sam linebacker spot, that strong side outside linebacker spot
- 15:51Speaker 2: is what fits him best.
- 15:53Speaker 4: I went with Gabe Davis and he will on Friday,
- 16:00Speaker 4: I think he'll make a play every time there's been
- 16:02Speaker 4: a big moment situation in the preseason. Between preseason games
- 16:08Speaker 4: and a couple of practices, it seems like Trevor gets
- 16:11Speaker 4: him the ball in situations and he makes a play.
- 16:14Speaker 3: He had a couple of.
- 16:15Speaker 4: The nicest gain translatable receptions in practice during training camp
- 16:24Speaker 4: that I remember, So I think he, you know, he
- 16:27Speaker 4: won't get to show everything that he can do. Trevor
- 16:30Speaker 4: talked about this week that Trevor thinks he has a
- 16:33Speaker 4: lot more in him than he showed in Buffalo, a
- 16:37Speaker 4: lot more versatility, and so I don't think he'll get
- 16:40Speaker 4: a chance to show all that. But I was thinking
- 16:42Speaker 4: about that this week with Gabe, that he might be
- 16:45Speaker 4: the most important piece of this offense in the sense
- 16:49Speaker 4: that you sort of know what you think Brian Thomas
- 16:52Speaker 4: is gonna give you, you know what Christian Kirschman give you.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Evan Ingram Travis ETN.
- 16:58Speaker 4: I think people don't quite know to expect from Gay
- 17:00Speaker 4: to think he's a deep ball guy because he had
- 17:02Speaker 4: the big yards per reception in Buffalo.
- 17:05Speaker 3: They seem to think that he can be.
- 17:07Speaker 4: A lot more versatile and a lot more involved in
- 17:10Speaker 4: all of it. So he's very interesting to me as
- 17:14Speaker 4: the season starts, how he's gonna look and how he's
- 17:18Speaker 4: gonna matter to this offense.
- 17:19Speaker 2: He is as fearless a guy in the middle of
- 17:21Speaker 2: the field as I have seen around here in a
- 17:24Speaker 2: long time. He reminds me in that respect to make
- 17:26Speaker 2: a comparison to Keenan McCardell.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Who pausing. Keenan, yeah, all coming back here, who never never.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Shied away from the middle of the field. And I
- 17:35Speaker 2: watched him a couple of routes this week go right
- 17:37Speaker 2: through the middle. I mean right where guys get el
- 17:40Speaker 2: caboond and not down and made great catches and run
- 17:44Speaker 2: after the catch. So he's not just looking to get
- 17:46Speaker 2: the ball and get down, He's looking to get up
- 17:48Speaker 2: the field. He's a complete receiver.
- 17:50Speaker 4: Well, first, nobody wants to get all Cabald and second,
- 17:53Speaker 4: as you know, Brian, the keen of comparison is interesting
- 17:56Speaker 4: because when Keenan came in, he had a little bit
- 18:00Speaker 4: of a name, and he had been good in Cleveland
- 18:03Speaker 4: but hadn't reached great. So Gabe Davis might be the
- 18:08Speaker 4: same kind of opportunity where you find your fit at
- 18:10Speaker 4: your next franchise.
- 18:11Speaker 3: Very exciting.
- 18:12Speaker 1: I'm gonna go to the defensive side of the ball
- 18:13Speaker 1: for me, I'm gonna do Darnell Savage, he will play
- 18:16Speaker 1: in this game. We haven't seen him in action yet
- 18:18Speaker 1: because he's been wearing that red non contact jersey, but
- 18:20Speaker 1: he got that off this week and so he won't
- 18:22Speaker 1: look lost out there because he has been practicing with
- 18:24Speaker 1: the team all through training camp, just wasn't tackling people
- 18:27Speaker 1: to the ground. He very well might be one of
- 18:29Speaker 1: those players that has an eye for the ball. Obviously
- 18:32Speaker 1: he saw Darius Williams with a lot of interceptions last year.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Darnell Savage kind of along those lines in the sense
- 18:38Speaker 1: that he was talking earlier this week calling it a
- 18:40Speaker 1: dynamic defense. He feels like there's a lot of playmakers
- 18:42Speaker 1: on the defensive side of the ball, and the way
- 18:44Speaker 1: that Ryan Nielsen is scheming things up, it allows each
- 18:47Speaker 1: player to kind of play played a role in the defense,
- 18:50Speaker 1: but also have a little bit of autonomy as well,
- 18:52Speaker 1: so leaving the way for something like that to come about.
- 18:55Speaker 1: And I'm excited to see this full defense in action,
- 18:57Speaker 1: whether it ends up being in this preseason game or
- 18:59Speaker 1: Week one, I'm just excited to see exactly how everything
- 19:01Speaker 1: pans out.
- 19:01Speaker 2: I think they're excited to see Savage too, because they
- 19:03Speaker 2: signed him. He has the ability. It was described to
- 19:06Speaker 2: me by Dave Campbell, the former Dallas Cowboys head coach
- 19:09Speaker 2: who now works in the media locally, that there aren't
- 19:12Speaker 2: a lot of guys who can play the nickel man
- 19:15Speaker 2: or zone. That it's just not as easy. One guy
- 19:17Speaker 2: can do one thing well, another guy can do the
- 19:19Speaker 2: other thing well. But the word on Savage is zone
- 19:22Speaker 2: or man in the middle. He is comfortable and confident,
- 19:25Speaker 2: and if that's the case, they have a really interesting
- 19:27Speaker 2: chess piece to move around the board.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Yeah. I couldn't agree more.
- 19:29Speaker 4: He's sort of the guy much like Gabe Davis, who
- 19:32Speaker 4: I talked about a second ago. Savage during training camp
- 19:37Speaker 4: has and even in the off season a little bit
- 19:39Speaker 4: sort of the overlooked edition. Feels like people talk about Tyson,
- 19:43Speaker 4: talk about Garon Jones, they talk about Ronald Darby and
- 19:48Speaker 4: not really factoring in that they believe that they brought
- 19:51Speaker 4: in a piece and Savage who makes them a much
- 19:54Speaker 4: better secondary than they were. I've kind of been guilty
- 19:57Speaker 4: of overlooking it because he's been in the Red Jersey,
- 19:59Speaker 4: so you don't talk about him. But if if he's
- 20:02Speaker 4: what they think, they have a lot of conference in Derby,
- 20:04Speaker 4: Daryon Jones, Tyson. They think they're really good in a
- 20:06Speaker 4: lot of spots Sisca. If he's what they think, then
- 20:09Speaker 4: there's a lot of high end guys back there.
- 20:11Speaker 1: They're exciting. Alright, stay with us. We're gonna preview what's
- 20:13Speaker 1: going on the rest of the weekend, what's coming out

- 20:38Speaker 6: Now I'm aunt him or now I'm back. They could

- 21:15Speaker 1: I don't know if we have a set date yet,
- 21:17Speaker 1: but it'll be out before the season opener against Miami.
- 21:20Speaker 3: You just follow up on Savage.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Really nice part about Savage is they don't have to
- 21:23Speaker 2: rush Joey and Jones in the right talented guy. They
- 21:26Speaker 2: can bring him along that can find a role for
- 21:28Speaker 2: him and he'll learn a lot playing with a guy
- 21:30Speaker 2: like Savage.
- 21:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm excited about this rookie class. And I usually
- 21:34Speaker 4: don't say that, but when you take Brian Thomas Junior,
- 21:37Speaker 4: Mason Smith, Jaran Jones, Mason Smith, Cam Little, it's uh
- 21:43Speaker 4: has a chance to make a really impact.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Mason Smith and Cam Little the odd couple there, but
- 21:46Speaker 1: their best bads.
- 21:47Speaker 3: I love it. That's really Is that true? Yeah? I
- 21:50Speaker 3: didn't know that. Oh yeah, it's very good.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Check out miked up and you'll see it.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Mason Smith is so big and Cam Little is just
- 21:57Speaker 2: the most so small.
- 21:58Speaker 3: Well, I just want to say, he.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Looks like a normal human being, right, Sure, he looks
- 22:01Speaker 2: like a guy that you're gonna see on a college campus.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Absolutely well. We love a dynamic too, so check that out.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Check out the final preseason game on Friday. We'll have
