- 0:01Speaker 1: On KFM Mornings. Good morning and hello, welcome to Monday.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Good morning everybody. Hello, rise and shine.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, 12 October, those roads are packed out there, eh?
- 0:12Speaker 2: And the N1 is open for business.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Mmm.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Sure, dramatic scenes over the weekend.
- 0:18Speaker 1: What happened there, a truck hit a bridge or something?
- 0:20Speaker 2: A pedestrian bridge, yes. Yes, that's exactly what happened. But
- 0:24Speaker 2: well done to the city. I know.
- 0:26Speaker 3: I mean, I felt like it was fear mongering from yesterday.
- 0:30Speaker 3: You know, I didn't sleep not knowing I was going
- 0:32Speaker 3: to come into town. And it looks as if absolutely
- 0:36Speaker 3: nothing took place.
- 0:36Speaker 2: What a quick response.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Right?
- 0:38Speaker 4: Because everyone went to bed thinking, oh, I've got a
- 0:40Speaker 4: dream up alternative room.
- 0:42Speaker 2: It's going to take longer to get to wherever I'm going.
- 0:45Speaker 4: But it seems as though now everything is back on track.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Well done, team.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Well done. Incredible. I thought, you know what, the city
- 0:54Speaker 1: is very safe and, you know, it might take a
- 0:57Speaker 1: couple days for everybody to inspect that bridge. Because, you know,
- 1:01Speaker 1: in Joburg, the bridge is falling down already. So it
- 1:04Speaker 1: doesn't matter, you know, just drive, take a chance. No.
- 1:07Speaker 1: You know? So fantastic stuff, really. Thank you.
- 1:11Speaker 3: No, the city's MAKO member, Rob Quintus, this morning had
- 1:16Speaker 3: already said that The bridges, the bridge, it's a pedestrian bridge,
- 1:21Speaker 3: so there's no cars going over it. But it is
- 1:24Speaker 3: completely safe. They've done what they needed to do. And
- 1:27Speaker 3: in the coming days, they will obviously fix it up
- 1:31Speaker 3: in such a way that it aesthetically, it looks, you know, the.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Way it should. But it is safe.
- 1:37Speaker 3: People work, engineers and whatever, overnight and tip top.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I mean, a round of applause.
- 1:43Speaker 5: It really seems like we've got the best of the
- 1:45Speaker 5: best on the job.
- 1:46Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Right. It's like, but you see, the old bridges, they
- 1:50Speaker 1: were built much better.
- 1:53Speaker 5: Are we the uncles and the aunties who say now,
- 1:57Speaker 5: they don't make things the way.
- 1:58Speaker 2: They used to?
- 1:59Speaker 1: Exactly right. It's fact.
- 2:02Speaker 2: No, it is true.
- 2:03Speaker 4: I was at the vinyl fair at the watershed, at
- 2:06Speaker 4: the waterfront over the weekend. with fellow music lovers and
- 2:10Speaker 4: that was the sentiment going through old records how music
- 2:15Speaker 4: used to be made oh they don't make them like
- 2:18Speaker 4: they used to the quality it's just not the same
- 2:22Speaker 4: you go thrifting you touch that shirt they just don't
- 2:26Speaker 4: make them this way.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Anymore anything that was made back in the day compared
- 2:30Speaker 1: to now there's a significant weight difference.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Yes The weight test, eh? Yeah, exactly right.
- 2:36Speaker 5: But not just the weight test, the amount of time
- 2:38Speaker 5: it took to create the garment.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Now everything is fast.
- 2:43Speaker 5: And the quality isn't always, you know, make sure.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 2:49Speaker 1: This is before China made everything.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I know. Not too much on China because they also
- 2:53Speaker 2: make very good things as well.
- 2:57Speaker 1: China make best, highest quality stuff. They do, absolutely. Absolutely.
- 3:01Speaker 1: But they also make the lowest quality stuff too. Okay,
- 3:07Speaker 1: so let's start the show.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Good morning. Good morning.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Sexy back here on KFM Mornings. Quarter after six. Okay,
- 3:16Speaker 1: so let's get your clue on for the 20K Pop
- 3:19Speaker 1: Quiz brought to you by Suzuki.
- 3:22Speaker 5: Would you like sport or desserts this morning?
- 3:25Speaker 7: Oh, trifle.
- 3:28Speaker 1: It can't be trifle again, the answer.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Not yet. It's not that time yet, Darren.
- 3:32Speaker 1: I know this time of year. Okay, let's go dessert.
- 3:37Speaker 1: I'm interested, yeah.
- 3:39Speaker 5: Okay, question number four this morning. Name the dessert made
- 3:44Speaker 5: with meringue and topped with fruit.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Is this a pavlova?
- 3:49Speaker 2: You would be correct. Now, why is the pavlova in
- 3:52Speaker 2: the pop quiz specifically? It just popped up. Okay. It
- 3:54Speaker 2: just popped up. I was like, maybe you had a
- 3:56Speaker 2: really good pavlova over the weekend, Shirley. I have been
- 3:59Speaker 2: craving it, though.
- 4:01Speaker 1: No, you know what's probably happened?
- 4:02Speaker 2: But who makes a good pavlova?
- 4:04Speaker 1: You know what's probably happened? She's gone and Googled now,
- 4:08Speaker 1: because it's Christmas, truffle recipe. And then Google said, Are
- 4:13Speaker 1: you sure? May I suggest a pavlova?
- 4:15Speaker 4: It's too early for trifle slander, Darren. At least wait
- 4:18Speaker 4: until the beginning of December.
- 4:20Speaker 5: Or just stop and put some respect on the trifle.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Because us trifle lovers are looking forward to the season.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Okay.
- 4:28Speaker 8: Apologies.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Apologies, as you were. Okay, so pavlova is your answer.
- 4:37Speaker 1: You are lucky that there's not going to be a
- 4:40Speaker 1: Monday Maths today. Mm-hmm.
- 4:43Speaker 2: We would have been ready for you, though. You know.
- 4:46Speaker 1: We've got finals exams for Monday Math starting soon.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Why would you do that? That's terrible. So we have
- 4:54Speaker 2: a study break.
- 4:55Speaker 1: You've got one week revision study. And then we're going
- 4:59Speaker 1: to do the exams for the year.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Because I know the real Matric finals start tomorrow.
- 5:04Speaker 1: That's right, yeah.
- 5:05Speaker 4: So we stand in solidarity with our fellow learners, students
- 5:11Speaker 4: in Matric.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Good luck, Matrics. It's not an easy time, but it's
- 5:16Speaker 2: an important time.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, sure. I keep remembering when I was about
- 5:21Speaker 1: to write finals.
- 5:22Speaker 9: Mm-hmm.
- 5:22Speaker 10: Mm-hmm.
- 5:24Speaker 4: And it felt like your whole life rested on these exams.
- 5:28Speaker 4: And obviously now in retrospect, so much happens afterwards. But
- 5:31Speaker 4: it's just a culmination of 12 years of work, I guess.
- 5:35Speaker 5: I remember how stressed out I felt and how adult
- 5:39Speaker 5: I was. I felt like I needed to feel. And
- 5:42Speaker 5: like you said, in retrospect, yes, it's such an important time.
- 5:46Speaker 5: But there are still so many exciting chapters ahead of you.
- 5:51Speaker 2: We were in.
- 5:52Speaker 5: Wellington this weekend and a matriculant was studying. Shame and
- 5:57Speaker 5: my boys were playing there on the drum sets.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Oh, to be free and to be little.
- 6:01Speaker 5: Yeah, but apologies to Bronwyn there in grade 12 and
- 6:06Speaker 5: good luck to all of the matriculants.
- 6:09Speaker 2: You've got this, man. For sure.
- 6:11Speaker 1: So where were they studying?
- 6:15Speaker 2: So we were visiting my cousin.
- 6:18Speaker 5: In Wellington and there's a grade 12 in the house.
- 6:22Speaker 2: People, Bronwyn and Shame. She was They're.
- 6:25Speaker 5: Preparing for Kat. So luckily it was her on the laptop.
- 6:27Speaker 5: But still, when the babies are making noise or... Yeah.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Good luck.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Good luck. You've got this.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Yeah. Do we know what they start with tomorrow?
- 6:40Speaker 5: I know that Kat is one of the subjects that's.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Coming up first. Computer... What is it called?
- 6:47Speaker 1: Oh, like a.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Okay.
- 6:49Speaker 2: What does Kat stand for?
- 6:51Speaker 1: Computer... I don't know. Computer and.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Computer applications technology.
- 6:59Speaker 5: Computer applications technology. So I'm not sure if that's the
- 7:03Speaker 5: very first subject, but I know that's one of the
- 7:07Speaker 5: first subjects.
- 7:08Speaker 2: We learn something new every day.
- 7:10Speaker 4: So it's CAT tomorrow and then I think the mainstream
- 7:15Speaker 4: subjects start on Wednesday.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Yeah. Tomorrow it's all... There's so many subjects that we write.
- 7:21Speaker 1: I mean, there's Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Hebrew, German.
- 7:29Speaker 5: But how incredible that these are the options that the
- 7:32Speaker 5: children have.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:35Speaker 1: So, we had three in Durban. It was English, Afrikaans
- 7:40Speaker 1: and Zulu.
- 7:40Speaker 4: Obviously, it happened over a shorter time, but now they've got,
- 7:44Speaker 4: I think, a month and a half.
- 7:46Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 7:47Speaker 1: And our computer studies... Our computer studies, there was one
- 7:52Speaker 1: computer in a classroom.
- 7:55Speaker 2: What a time.
- 7:56Speaker 8: You had to.
- 7:57Speaker 1: And again, the computer could do nothing. Like literally couldn't
- 8:01Speaker 1: do anything.
- 8:02Speaker 2: How big was it?
- 8:04Speaker 1: No, well, the hard drive was massive. Like a hard
- 8:07Speaker 1: drive that you see today now, that was one gig.
- 8:13Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 8:14Speaker 1: One gig. That was a one gig hard drive. If
- 8:17Speaker 1: you came home... With a 2 gig hard drive. You
- 8:20Speaker 1: were balling. It was like.
- 8:23Speaker 2: It takes forever to do anything.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Yeah. You've got now.
- 8:28Speaker 8: What?
- 8:28Speaker 1: 250 gigs just in your phone. In your watch probably. Yes.
- 8:33Speaker 2: In your pocket. Okay.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Well, let's leave you to enter now on 0829450940. As
- 8:40Speaker 1: always brought to you by Suzuki. Come take a chance.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Win a prize, we'll have exquisite weather forecasts for the
- 8:48Speaker 1: week coming up next.
- 8:50Speaker 12: Let's go!
- 8:52Speaker 2: KFM Mornings with Darren, Sherlyn, Sibs and you.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Like a Mills and Boone novel, I'm told. I never
- 8:59Speaker 1: knew about Mills and Boone. You wouldn't know about that,
- 9:01Speaker 1: of course. I think you've told me about Mills and Boone.
- 9:04Speaker 4: No, readers are leaders, Darren. Readers are achievers, yes. We
- 9:08Speaker 4: do not judge as long as we open a book.
- 9:11Speaker 1: You see, I'll wait for the movie or perhaps the song.
- 9:15Speaker 5: I couldn't enjoy that song this morning, Darren, unfortunately, because
- 9:19Speaker 5: it reminded me that I'm fighting you later today.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Yes, man. That was my final classic pick on Friday. Okay. So, look,
- 9:30Speaker 1: let's just get the news and sports on and then
- 9:32Speaker 1: we'll have a squiz at the weather. It is 6.30
- 9:36Speaker 1: here on KFM Mornings. Let's have a look at your
- 9:38Speaker 1: weather forecast for this week. It is quite misty out
- 9:41Speaker 1: there this morning. Today it's not going to get above
- 9:44Speaker 1: 19 degrees. We're expecting a bit of light rain later
- 9:47Speaker 1: on today, perhaps. That'll continue right through to tomorrow morning
- 9:53Speaker 1: where we will still have some light rain. The rest
- 9:56Speaker 1: of the week should be all clear leading up to Thursday.
- 9:59Speaker 1: but temperatures are still going to stay sub 20. We're
- 10:03Speaker 1: not going to get above 18, 19 degrees the whole week, right? Um,
- 10:09Speaker 1: where else? Stellenbosch today, you got 20 degrees cloudy. Your
- 10:13Speaker 1: light rain also arrives later today. Paul, same conditions. And Worcester,
- 10:19Speaker 1: 27 degrees. That's almost the warmest. Beaufort West today is
- 10:26Speaker 1: going up to 35 degrees. Sure.
- 10:27Speaker 2: It's a weird one.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Today, hey? Yeah, it's all over the place. And then
- 10:32Speaker 1: they've got thunderstorms coming to you in Beaufort West later
- 10:38Speaker 1: this evening. Otsuun, you also got 33 degrees and thunderstorms
- 10:44Speaker 1: later on today. Garden Route George Nisner Plate 20 is
- 10:49Speaker 1: your high for the next three days. You got rain showers.
- 10:56Speaker 1: So we got light rain happening here in and around
- 11:01Speaker 1: Cape Town. Thunderstorms in the interior and the Garden Route
- 11:06Speaker 1: has just a bit of heavy rain. That's how your
- 11:10Speaker 1: weather forecast looks for this week. It is 20 minutes
- 11:13Speaker 1: to 7 o'clock.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Rise and shine.
- 11:15Speaker 12: Rise and shine. 60 seconds. 10 questions. And up to
- 11:21Speaker 12: 20,000 rand cash. It's time for the 20,000 rand pop
- 11:27Speaker 12: quiz with Suzuki. On KFM Mornings with Darren, Sherlyn and Sibs.
- 11:33Speaker 12: Suzuki turns everything into a fun adventure.
- 11:38Speaker 1: So every day the National Sea Rescue Institute works to
- 11:41Speaker 1: prevent drownings and save lives through rescue operations, lifeguarding, water
- 11:46Speaker 1: safety education, survival, swimming lessons and pink rescue boys. Now
- 11:51Speaker 1: through the NSRI's Cars for Good contest in partnership with
- 11:54Speaker 1: Suzuki Auto South Africa, you can help fund this vital
- 11:58Speaker 1: work and stand a chance to win one of two
- 12:00Speaker 1: remaining Suzuki Jimny five-door GLXs. The next draw takes place
- 12:05Speaker 1: after entries close on the 15th of December. So get
- 12:07Speaker 1: your ticket today at nsri.org.za. Ashad, good morning.
- 12:13Speaker 6: Hi, morning, Darren.
- 12:15Speaker 12: How are you?
- 12:15Speaker 1: How are you, brother? Good, and you, man?
- 12:18Speaker 2: I'm fine, thank you.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Good. So your job, your daily is in IT marketing.
- 12:25Speaker 1: That's correct, yeah. For a big bank, I'm told.
- 12:28Speaker 13: Yeah, one of the fastest great banks.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Okay. There used to be four that you would know,
- 12:35Speaker 1: but now there's five in that equation. That's correct. And
- 12:38Speaker 1: let me guess, you're in five when you say fastest growing?
- 12:41Speaker 2: That's correct, yes.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Yes, okay.
- 12:44Speaker 13: You guys are so advertised to them.
- 12:46Speaker 1: We had a little contest with them last week, right?
- 12:49Speaker 2: Not so little, actually. I don't know why you guys
- 12:51Speaker 2: are doing like a 30 seconds thing. I don't know.
- 12:54Speaker 2: And not mentioning the big C.
- 12:55Speaker 1: No, no, because it's all part of the clues here.
- 12:58Speaker 1: The Rubik's Cube, you can work this out. Okay. Is
- 13:02Speaker 1: there a blue and red in the logo?
- 13:05Speaker 10: That's correct.
- 13:06Speaker 1: With a white background.
- 13:08Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Does it start with a C and end with a C?
- 13:12Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Cappy tag, of course. I was there on Friday. Oh,
- 13:17Speaker 1: did you enjoy the show on Friday? Were you there?
- 13:19Speaker 6: Awesome.
- 13:20Speaker 13: Loved it.
- 13:21Speaker 9: Loved it.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Awesome. Thank you, man. Thank you. We had an absolute
- 13:25Speaker 1: blast at Wacky's All-Star Comedy Jam, Friday and Saturday. It
- 13:29Speaker 1: was great. You see, Ashad is locked into old school
- 13:34Speaker 1: rules of radio. where you don't mention your company. You know,
- 13:39Speaker 1: you're not allowed to mention anything.
- 13:41Speaker 2: They must pay for that, and they did.
- 13:43Speaker 1: And, Ashad, I don't know if you know anything about
- 13:47Speaker 1: me yet. I don't obey any rules.
- 13:50Speaker 14: No.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:52Speaker 1: We are rule-free here, brother. Okay.
- 13:55Speaker 15: And, Darren, on Friday, when the show started later, I
- 13:58Speaker 15: was saying it's all like you.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Yeah, but, hey, listen, that wasn't my fault. That wasn't
- 14:04Speaker 1: my fault because... Because at 8 o'clock in the arena...
- 14:08Speaker 1: So there's actually... I have an app that they give
- 14:13Speaker 1: me to tell me how many people are in the arena.
- 14:16Speaker 9: Sure.
- 14:17Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Great tech. And now remember, there's 5,500 people that are there.
- 14:22Speaker 1: And at 8 o'clock, there was only 1,900 people in
- 14:27Speaker 1: the arena.
- 14:27Speaker 2: That have gone through the doors.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Yes.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Scanned through the doors.
- 14:31Speaker 1: That have scanned, yes.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Okay.
- 14:32Speaker 1: So that's why we waited... To get everybody in Because
- 14:37Speaker 1: it's Friday You know So there's There's You're dealing with
- 14:41Speaker 1: Peak hour traffic People that aren't Coming to the show
- 14:44Speaker 1: And then you're still Trying to get in So.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Yeah Yeah So it wasn't you Darren.
- 14:49Speaker 1: No No no no I wanted everybody in Seated and
- 14:52Speaker 1: ready And then we had When we started We had
- 14:55Speaker 1: about 5,200 people.
- 14:57Speaker 5: In Okay Yeah And clearly it was Worth the wait
- 15:00Speaker 5: The show looked Incredible online.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Yeah It was wild It was amazing Okay. So, Arshad,
- 15:08Speaker 1: now we focus our attention on you, right? Qualifying question.
- 15:14Speaker 1: True or false, the NSRI works to prevent drownings and
- 15:18Speaker 1: is dedicated to saving lives. Yes, sir.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Arshad! Good start. Okay, my man.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Give it your best. And we will see where this goes.
- 15:32Speaker 1: All right.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Your time.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Your time, my man. Starts now.
- 15:37Speaker 5: Party rock anthem and Sexy and I Know It are
- 15:40Speaker 5: songs by? True or false, the Stormers beat the Sharks
- 15:45Speaker 5: on Saturday?
- 15:46Speaker 16: True.
- 15:48Speaker 5: Which Kardashian plays divorce attorney Allura Grant in All's Fair?
- 15:55Speaker 5: Name the dessert made with meringue and topped with fruit.
- 15:58Speaker 5: What's the capital of the Netherlands? Which famous Jessica will
- 16:05Speaker 5: play Hugh Hefner's wife in Playmates? Who won the 2026
- 16:12Speaker 5: Singapore GP? Nicola Peltz is married to which Beckham?
- 16:23Speaker 1: What's 5 plus 102?
- 16:25Speaker 6: Spell available.
- 16:32Speaker 2: A-V-A-I-L-A-B-L-E.
- 16:35Speaker 5: Party rock anthem and sexy and I know it are
- 16:37Speaker 5: songs by?
- 16:40Speaker 1: The Netherlands is the one answer.
- 16:42Speaker 8: Nah, Ashad.
- 16:43Speaker 1: We didn't even get there.
- 16:47Speaker 2: You couldn't even get that right. Guys, it's a lot
- 16:51Speaker 2: of pressure.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Well, look. Look, it's five out of ten.
- 16:55Speaker 4: Thank goodness you got those last two because it was
- 16:58Speaker 4: looking very shaky, Ashad.
- 17:00Speaker 1: A shot it's five out of ten which is a
- 17:02Speaker 1: thousand rand however we give a minimum full tank of
- 17:06Speaker 1: petrol which as far as i know it's still a
- 17:08Speaker 1: thousand four hundred rand if you diesel maybe something else
- 17:14Speaker 1: maybe a bit more okay so and let me guess
- 17:18Speaker 1: you drive diesel hey one of the vehicles one of
- 17:25Speaker 1: I'm not filling your fleet here alright your aunt's car
- 17:30Speaker 1: your uncle's car mom's grand mother-in-law okay it's a thousand
- 17:36Speaker 1: four hundred bucks I shot LMFAO is party rock anthem
- 17:41Speaker 1: you're right it's Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands.
- 17:46Speaker 4: Are they making a playboy movie.
- 17:49Speaker 5: Yes I didn't know that Yes, and then the people
- 17:53Speaker 5: are divided. Hugh Hefner obviously has dated numerous women in
- 17:56Speaker 5: the past. His ex-wife is actually pleading with Jessica Biel saying,
- 18:01Speaker 5: please don't take this role.
- 18:02Speaker 2: He was a horrible husband.
- 18:04Speaker 5: And then one of the other bunnies are saying, oh,
- 18:06Speaker 5: I'm so excited to watch this.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Oh, goodness me.
- 18:10Speaker 8: Clash of the bunnies.
- 18:13Speaker 1: So Jessica Biel is the answer.
- 18:15Speaker 16: Yes.
- 18:17Speaker 1: And Max Verstappen won the Singapore GP. And it's Brooklyn Beckham,
- 18:22Speaker 1: who is.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Nicola Peltz.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Nicola Peltz. He's the one that's now considered estranged from
- 18:28Speaker 1: the family. Okay. Thanks, Ashad.
- 18:33Speaker 12: No problem.
- 18:33Speaker 1: I had the kids here, Darren, and I usually answer
- 18:35Speaker 1: all the questions correct, but today.
- 18:38Speaker 13: Not.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Today, hey?
- 18:39Speaker 1: Not today, not today.
- 18:42Speaker 8: Okay.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Blame it on the babies.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Well, you know what... You see, you've got to wait
- 18:49Speaker 1: three months now. That's the one rule that we do
- 18:52Speaker 1: have to enforce here.
- 18:53Speaker 7: All right.
- 18:54Speaker 1: We're going to have another go.
- 18:55Speaker 11: All right.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Good luck, man. Okay. Cheers, brother.
- 18:59Speaker 9: Bye-bye.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Okay.
- 19:02Speaker 2: That's all she wrote.
- 19:03Speaker 1: That's correct. I love this. It's nine to five. Monday,
- 19:07Speaker 1: back to the grind, back to the routine. This is
- 19:11Speaker 1: Yoga with a Dolly remix. Here's your Monday motivation. And
- 19:16Speaker 1: it's coming via an extremely accomplished sportsman.
- 19:22Speaker 8: Local?
- 19:23Speaker 6: No.
- 19:24Speaker 2: We wish.
- 19:26Speaker 1: We wish we could say Mo Salah plays for Bafana Bafana.
- 19:30Speaker 1: He's now obviously the Liverpool legend. He's now playing in Turkey.
- 19:35Speaker 1: And he's just blitzing the goals. And they're saying, no, no,
- 19:37Speaker 1: the Turkey league is too easy for this guy.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Take him back to the Premier League.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Yeah, he's just running riot like a goal fest. So
- 19:47Speaker 1: he's one of the greatest that's ever played, Mo Salah.
- 19:49Speaker 1: the Egyptian. And the premise here is the mental work
- 19:56Speaker 1: is the hardest part. Before you cross that line, what
- 20:01Speaker 1: state of mind are you in, right? He says he
- 20:04Speaker 1: visualizes 15 minutes every day and he actually sees the goals.
- 20:10Speaker 1: before they happen.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Oh, that's powerful.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Yeah. This piece has been quoted by, was quoted by
- 20:19Speaker 1: Kobe Bryant. And many, many, many other sports stars take
- 20:24Speaker 1: inspiration from this very thing that Mo Salah said. I
- 20:28Speaker 1: hope you get some inspiration from it too.
- 20:31Speaker 11: What is the one piece of advice you wish someone
- 20:33Speaker 11: had told you when you were 18 that you've now learned, mate?
- 20:37Speaker 2: I work mentally.
- 20:39Speaker 11: The work mentally is much more difficult than you work physically.
- 20:43Speaker 11: I work in the gym almost every day, one and
- 20:45Speaker 11: a half hours. Sometimes I go home, most of the
- 20:48Speaker 11: time I go home, I work again. But it's so
- 20:50Speaker 11: hard to keep working in your mental thing 15 minutes
- 20:54Speaker 11: every day.
- 20:55Speaker 2: It's so hard. It's tricky. It's really tricky. Trust me.
- 20:59Speaker 11: I've been doing it for a few years and I'm
- 21:00Speaker 11: telling you, just you sit with yourself alone for 15
- 21:04Speaker 11: minutes before you sleep or when you wake up, it's
- 21:06Speaker 11: much more harder than you do the gym every day
- 21:08Speaker 11: for one and a half hour.
- 21:10Speaker 1: What do you think about in that time when you're
- 21:12Speaker 1: doing the mental work?
- 21:13Speaker 11: Well, it's a lot of things to think about. It's
- 21:16Speaker 11: a lot of things you want to achieve and a
- 21:18Speaker 11: lot of things you... A lot of situations you want
- 21:21Speaker 11: to experience before it even happens. So when it happens,
- 21:25Speaker 11: you're not surprised. You had that experience before.
- 21:28Speaker 8: Escape can Salah.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Oh, it's brilliant from Mo Salah.
- 21:31Speaker 1: And still Salah.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Oh, sensational. Absolutely sensational.
- 21:41Speaker 9: Salah.
- 21:41Speaker 1: A goal to dream of.
- 21:44Speaker 11: Sometimes you need to trick your brain to just lie
- 21:47Speaker 11: to yourself. And your brain wouldn't make a difference between
- 21:49Speaker 11: the real thing or the fake thing. So it's like
- 21:52Speaker 11: you keep going into the process that you keep lying
- 21:54Speaker 11: to yourself until you believe the idea that you want
- 21:56Speaker 11: to put it in your brain.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Mo Salah rises to the moment again. Once more, he
- 22:03Speaker 2: is the man.
- 22:04Speaker 1: So you visualize goals before they happen. You've already told
- 22:07Speaker 1: yourself you will score.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Yeah, 90% of my goals was like this or even more.
- 22:26Speaker 2: That's incredible.
- 22:27Speaker 11: Now you just visualize what you want to happen and
- 22:30Speaker 11: you keep repeat it and repeat it and repeat it.
- 22:33Speaker 11: Sometimes not working, sometimes just work. So it's work mentally.
- 22:41Speaker 16: Wow!
- 22:43Speaker 12: Oh!
- 22:44Speaker 2: That is beyond special.
- 22:47Speaker 5: Brilliant.
- 22:47Speaker 2: A worldie and a half from Mohamed Salah. Never mind
- 22:53Speaker 2: from the top drawer. That is a goal from paradise.
- 23:00Speaker 1: That's it right there.
- 23:01Speaker 4: Football superstar Mo Salah talks about the power of visualization.
- 23:06Speaker 1: It's all in the mind.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Now, that's powerful, hey? Mo Salah said, let's manifest.
- 23:10Speaker 4: Let's manifest. And we've spoken about this for years. Darren,
- 23:14Speaker 4: I don't know if you were late on boarder of this, but.
- 23:17Speaker 2: It's so true.
- 23:19Speaker 4: Being able to see something happening and then it happening
- 23:22Speaker 4: down the line.
- 23:23Speaker 2: And it's not such a shock to the system. You're like,
- 23:25Speaker 2: I've been here before in my mind. Because I designed it.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Yes.
- 23:29Speaker 2: And when you realize you're the creator... That's powerful. Very
- 23:33Speaker 2: much so. Of your life.
- 23:34Speaker 11: Correct.
- 23:35Speaker 1: It's all in the mind. It's all in the mind. But,
- 23:38Speaker 1: I mean, you know, there's so many sports stars that
- 23:42Speaker 1: you think they're just athletes. But they're mine. Lots of
- 23:50Speaker 1: sage things they say. I mean, they've been there. They've
- 23:52Speaker 1: lived it. Have you heard the piece with Zlatan? That
- 23:57Speaker 1: wild man. He's crazy.
- 24:01Speaker 2: I love him. Was he the one who did the...
- 24:05Speaker 2: Not that. You're not talking about Haaland. I don't know.
- 24:09Speaker 1: What is a diff?
- 24:11Speaker 5: I'm talking about who was the guy who made headlines
- 24:15Speaker 5: because he headed another player.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Oh, that was years ago. Yes, yes, yes. Completely different
- 24:22Speaker 2: soccer player.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Different era even. Yeah.
- 24:27Speaker 3: I must have shushed when you talked sport.
- 24:29Speaker 1: I think that was on, uh, that went viral on MySpace. Um,
- 24:35Speaker 1: so Zlatan is a Swedish guy, but he's, he's so sharp. And, uh,
- 24:43Speaker 1: he does this bit about, I'm actually going to play
- 24:45Speaker 1: it for you. Please pull it up.
- 24:47Speaker 2: We're going to get double whammy.
- 24:48Speaker 14: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:49Speaker 1: But, but, but let me set this up because he
- 24:52Speaker 1: talks about this piece. Brad, you know which piece I'm
- 24:54Speaker 1: talking about.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Um, Brad just gave a thumbs up. The way you
- 25:01Speaker 2: two read each other's minds, it's insane.
- 25:04Speaker 1: I almost witnessed a manslaughter backstage at Wackett's All-Star Comedy Jam.
- 25:10Speaker 1: What happened? I'll tell you in a minute. Hold on.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Let's just stay on track here for now.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Oh, you can't do that. I can't with you.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Okay, Zlatan. So Zlatan was being trained. was moved to Barcelona.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Pep Guardiola was there before he went to Man City.
- 25:32Speaker 1: And Pep Guardiola is a very tactical manager. You play
- 25:37Speaker 1: in his system. You don't step out of it. These
- 25:40Speaker 1: are my rules. You play how I say. Zlatan's one
- 25:43Speaker 1: of those players that wants to play free. Don't give
- 25:46Speaker 1: me instructions. Let me be brilliant. And I do it
- 25:50Speaker 1: my own way. I run wherever I want. So they
- 25:52Speaker 1: had massive clashes like this. The other rule that Guardiola
- 25:55Speaker 1: had was, he said, no sports cars in the Barcelona complex.
- 26:00Speaker 1: You don't come with your fancy sports cars. We are footballers.
- 26:05Speaker 1: So they were at loggerheads about the style of play
- 26:09Speaker 1: because Pep would say, play this way, Zlatan would go
- 26:12Speaker 1: out and he'd play his own way. They would clash
- 26:14Speaker 1: and eventually Zlatan didn't listen. So Guardiola benches him. Says, okay,
- 26:19Speaker 1: that's it, you're benched. So then the next day at training,
- 26:23Speaker 1: Zlatan arrives in his Ferrari and he parks right outside
- 26:27Speaker 1: Guardiola's office at Barcelona. And that was pretty much the
- 26:32Speaker 1: beginning of the end. And then it was over and
- 26:34Speaker 1: then he moved.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Intense.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Okay, so this is Zlatan and his words of advice.
- 26:40Speaker 14: Money creates problems, even in families. Money brings stress. The
- 26:44Speaker 14: more you have, the more stress. And where is the stop?
- 26:46Speaker 14: You could live a good life with normal money. But
- 26:49Speaker 14: what is normal money now? I've been on both sides.
- 26:51Speaker 14: I've been without money, grew up with a family where
- 26:54Speaker 14: my father made and we have to share it. But
- 26:56Speaker 14: I had a good life. I had it good at
- 26:58Speaker 14: that moment. So where is the stop? But what is happiness?
- 27:02Speaker 2: Well, you tell me.
- 27:02Speaker 1: It's moments.
- 27:03Speaker 8: I'm happy now.
- 27:04Speaker 14: In 10 minutes, I could be unhappy.
- 27:06Speaker 2: So it's moments.
- 27:07Speaker 14: Money makes it easier, makes your life easier. But I
- 27:09Speaker 14: don't think it gives you happiness. Because for me, happiness
- 27:12Speaker 14: is moments. My dream was come to Barcelona. After one
- 27:15Speaker 14: year was my nightmare.
- 27:16Speaker 2: It's moments.
- 27:17Speaker 14: But I agree with you. I think when it comes
- 27:19Speaker 14: to having a lot of money, it's an ego thing
- 27:21Speaker 14: because your life will not change. Let's say the Saudi
- 27:24Speaker 14: situation now. A player that made a lot of money
- 27:27Speaker 14: goes there to make even crazy more money. Does it
- 27:29Speaker 14: change your life? Because I will tell you, you will
- 27:31Speaker 14: die before you waste your money you already earned than
- 27:34Speaker 14: the money you get in Saudi.
- 27:36Speaker 8: So it will not make a difference.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Perspective, eh?
- 27:40Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 27:41Speaker 4: I want to say I get what he's saying, but
- 27:42Speaker 4: I wish someone would give me money so that I
- 27:44Speaker 4: can walk this path.
- 27:45Speaker 2: But I completely understand.
- 27:47Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Where's your happiness actually coming from? What's the source of it?
- 27:51Speaker 1: But happiness is moments.
- 27:53Speaker 13: It's moments.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Happiness can be fleeting.
- 27:55Speaker 4: Because you could earn bags and bags of money in Saudi,
- 27:57Speaker 4: but are you happy in how you're making it? Because
- 28:01Speaker 4: you could be wanting to play in another league, in
- 28:04Speaker 4: another country, in another place.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Exactly right, yeah.
- 28:07Speaker 5: But what a beautiful way to just look at happiness, eh?
- 28:09Speaker 5: It takes off the pressure as well. You don't have
- 28:12Speaker 5: to be happy all the time.
- 28:13Speaker 2: It's moments.
- 28:15Speaker 1: It's moments. Exactly right. That is your Monday motivation.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Motivations? Yes. Thank you.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes. KFM Mornings. Do this here on KFM Mornings. Okay,
- 28:29Speaker 1: we've got quite a few messages here for the Monday
- 28:32Speaker 1: motivation this morning. I see AB De Villiers just staying
- 28:36Speaker 1: on the theme of sports stars went and had a knock.
- 28:39Speaker 1: What game was that? It's like a … Legends cricket match.
- 28:43Speaker 16: Yes.
- 28:43Speaker 1: And he scored a hundred and what? Like he'd never retired.
- 28:46Speaker 14: Eleven.
- 28:47Speaker 1: Do you know why AB.
- 28:48Speaker 4: Rolls back the years, a 37-ball century.
- 28:52Speaker 1: 37-ball century, AB de Villiers. Do you know why he
- 28:55Speaker 1: jumped back to play that game? Do you know why
- 28:57Speaker 1: he played that game?
- 28:58Speaker 9: I don't.
- 28:59Speaker 2: I would assume it never leaves you.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Yes, that too. So AB's got young kids now. And
- 29:09Speaker 1: they're all playing cricket. And these kids were... His kids
- 29:16Speaker 1: never saw Amy play cricket. They weren't old enough to
- 29:19Speaker 1: see Dad play cricket.
- 29:23Speaker 2: So Daddy just had to show them.
- 29:25Speaker 1: And Daddy wanted them to see him playing on the
- 29:28Speaker 1: big stage.
- 29:28Speaker 2: That's the same reason Serena Williams gave.
- 29:31Speaker 9: Was it?
- 29:31Speaker 4: Where she said, yes, her kids hear stories about her playing,
- 29:35Speaker 4: but they never got to watch her play.
- 29:37Speaker 2: So she's playing doubles and... other tournaments. But I guess
- 29:42Speaker 2: it's never the same, right? But still, it's so special.
- 29:45Speaker 2: And it speaks to how much you care as a parent.
- 29:49Speaker 2: You want your kids to think you're cool. Like, Mama's
- 29:52Speaker 2: still got it. Daddy's going to put on those pants.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Did you see Daddy bat? Exactly.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Okay, so here are some of your comments here. This
- 30:05Speaker 1: is Rudy from Kill River.
- 30:07Speaker 6: And I stopped my daughter from getting out of the
- 30:10Speaker 6: car to listen to the Monday Motivation. She's a gymnast,
- 30:14Speaker 6: doing really well. But still, she's young. She's 13 years
- 30:18Speaker 6: old and she has her doubts about herself. But I
- 30:21Speaker 6: told her, listen to this and think about what he's saying.
- 30:26Speaker 6: Because even Goku visualizes the fight before he does it.
- 30:33Speaker 6: Even Goku practices mental training.
- 30:36Speaker 15: I love both motivations, morning theme, but I love the
- 30:39Speaker 15: second one because some of the most miserable people I
- 30:43Speaker 15: know are the ones that have nothing to complain about. Yet, yeah.
- 30:50Speaker 15: I mean, some of the happiest people I know are
- 30:52Speaker 15: people that are just getting by, they're doing what they
- 30:55Speaker 15: need to do, but they're living in that moment.
- 30:58Speaker 1: They're enjoying those small moments. They are Just savoring the moments.
- 31:04Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 31:05Speaker 2: That's beautiful.
- 31:06Speaker 1: What that first dad was saying, you know, there's another
- 31:11Speaker 1: piece that you need to hear about this sports psychologist
- 31:17Speaker 1: who said there's no such thing as a 13-year-old elite athlete.
- 31:23Speaker 1: No such thing. Kids sports has become an industry on
- 31:30Speaker 1: its own. Of world tours, elite training programs. Everything has... Semi-professional.
- 31:39Speaker 2: Leagues of sorts.
- 31:40Speaker 5: Everything so serious as opposed to just being fun.
- 31:44Speaker 1: I used to play for Pinetown Football Club. Now you
- 31:48Speaker 1: don't play for a football club that ends in FC.
- 31:52Speaker 1: It must end in academy. It must end in elite training.
- 31:57Speaker 1: It must end in all these things. Where you're going...
- 32:02Speaker 1: If you're not going overseas, you're not in the right place.
- 32:07Speaker 1: And the bubble is going to burst. The bubble is
- 32:11Speaker 1: going to burst.
- 32:13Speaker 4: So it's nice then when superstars who did go all
- 32:16Speaker 4: the way are very honest about what happens when you
- 32:20Speaker 4: achieve the dream, right?
- 32:22Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 32:23Speaker 2: That it's not all sunshine and roses.
- 32:24Speaker 9: No.
- 32:25Speaker 4: You still have to care about community. You still have
- 32:27Speaker 4: to care about people. And connection and moments and memories.
- 32:32Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 32:33Speaker 1: You know, I've seen like the pressure on kids in
- 32:39Speaker 1: youth sports. It's madness.
- 32:43Speaker 2: And I'm sure very isolating and very lonely.
- 32:46Speaker 1: They're not professionals at 13. They really aren't. Let them
- 32:49Speaker 1: be kids and let them play.
- 32:51Speaker 2: Let them play with their friends and enjoy. Have fun, man,
- 32:55Speaker 2: being a child. Yeah.
- 32:58Speaker 1: And when you look at, like, I mean, everybody thinks
- 33:02Speaker 1: their kid is a superstar at nine, you know.
- 33:05Speaker 4: You've got the next Tiger Woods there.
- 33:08Speaker 1: You've got the next Roger Federer. There's a long, long,
- 33:11Speaker 1: long road. And the thing is what I see is
- 33:14Speaker 1: that when we get involved as parents and start telling
- 33:17Speaker 1: them how good they are, you can be pro at
- 33:19Speaker 1: that age, it sucks the enjoyment, boom, out of the game.
- 33:24Speaker 1: And invariably... They quit before 15. And that's it.
- 33:30Speaker 5: So is there a way for fun and excellence to coexist?
- 33:34Speaker 2: Or is it that we now need to choose one?
- 33:37Speaker 1: I believe at 13, it's too early to tell whether
- 33:40Speaker 1: your kid is excellent or not.
- 33:43Speaker 2: So you're saying have fun?
- 33:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:45Speaker 7: Play.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Your thing is your body is not fully developed yet.
- 33:49Speaker 2: Your mind's also not fully developed. So you're so sensitive, actually.
- 33:54Speaker 1: And the big thing in.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Youth sports, when you're playing under 13, under 14, under 15,
- 34:03Speaker 1: where in the year were you born? If you're playing
- 34:07Speaker 1: under 13 and you were born January, February, March, you've
- 34:12Speaker 1: got a physical advantage over somebody who was born November,
- 34:16Speaker 1: December at the end of the year. You know that
- 34:18Speaker 1: these academies in the UK, football academies, they don't pick
- 34:23Speaker 1: kids that are born after April.
- 34:26Speaker 2: Like it's that serious?
- 34:27Speaker 1: For that age group. That's right. Because especially when you're
- 34:31Speaker 1: looking at that 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 age.
- 34:35Speaker 2: But it's like that in academics also.
- 34:38Speaker 3: So that's a six-month difference.
- 34:40Speaker 1: It's huge.
- 34:41Speaker 4: Huge.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Huge, huge, huge, huge.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Yeah. That elite athlete, Brad is, you know what, I'm
- 34:48Speaker 1: going to tell you about the manslaughter that nearly happened backstage.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Was it back comedian on comedian?
- 34:54Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 34:54Speaker 1: No, no, no, no. This was... I was ready to
- 34:58Speaker 1: call the police.
- 34:59Speaker 8: Oh, my goodness.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Oh, oh! This is this bit that the sports psychologist
- 35:03Speaker 1: talks about elite youth sports.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks.
- 35:13Speaker 16: It's another good question on talent. So the question is
- 35:18Speaker 16: around kids and talent.
- 35:20Speaker 2: First of all, sad to say... For those of you.
- 35:24Speaker 16: That have got a really precocious talent, if you've got
- 35:26Speaker 16: a superstar eight or nine-year-old, there is no such thing
- 35:30Speaker 16: as an elite eight-year-old, a high-performance 10-year-old or a professional 11-year-old.
- 35:37Speaker 16: It doesn't happen. It just doesn't. It's not in my vocabulary.
- 35:42Speaker 16: Please get it out of yours. My job from 1992
- 35:47Speaker 16: to the 2000 Olympics was to go around Australia and
- 35:50Speaker 16: try and find and pull them into a high-performance program
- 35:57Speaker 16: and help to get the best out of them for
- 35:59Speaker 16: the 2000 Olympics. And in spite of that, and trained
- 36:02Speaker 16: as a physiologist, I can't tell you what your eight-year-old's
- 36:04Speaker 16: going to do.
- 36:05Speaker 2: I have no idea.
- 36:06Speaker 16: I can't even tell you what sport they're going to
- 36:08Speaker 16: end up in. This year's basketball player, his next year's footballer,
- 36:12Speaker 16: his next year's butterfly swimmer.
- 36:13Speaker 2: His next year's... We don't know.
- 36:15Speaker 16: We don't know. But I promise you, specialising them too
- 36:19Speaker 16: early is a road to doom. It's a road to doom,
- 36:26Speaker 16: particularly with young kids. Not only that, don't worship physical talent.
- 36:31Speaker 16: Physical talent is a poor indicator of long-term success. Don't
- 36:37Speaker 16: be overwhelmed by the 11-year-old that's up against your 11-year-old.
- 36:41Speaker 2: Don't be overwhelmed by that.
- 36:43Speaker 16: And not only that, if that's your 11-year-old, don't get
- 36:46Speaker 16: too excited about it.
- 36:47Speaker 8: Take time to build character.
- 36:49Speaker 16: And values and virtues and and integrity, and respect, and discipline,
- 36:55Speaker 16: and all the things as a human being that we
- 36:57Speaker 16: know will underpin their success in the long term. I'm
- 37:02Speaker 16: going to tell you something again that might unsettle some
- 37:04Speaker 16: of you. But if you come up to me and say, Wayne,
- 37:06Speaker 16: you don't understand, my child is 10, and they are
- 37:09Speaker 16: without doubt the best rugby player this country has ever
- 37:11Speaker 16: seen at 10, I'll feel sorry for your child.
- 37:15Speaker 2: I really will.
- 37:16Speaker 8: Because to me, I'd almost.
- 37:18Speaker 16: Bet my own life that that child will never play
- 37:21Speaker 16: rugby for this country. That's how strongly I feel about
- 37:24Speaker 16: early talent that's not tempered by the right environment and.
- 37:30Speaker 8: Built to last the time. The model that I use, parents,
- 37:34Speaker 8: is this one.
- 37:35Speaker 16: Imagine that talent and one other important factor to me
- 37:40Speaker 16: will determine long-term success and the capacity of your child
- 37:45Speaker 16: to realise the potential.
- 37:47Speaker 2: It's this word.
- 37:49Speaker 5: Commitment.
- 37:50Speaker 16: Commitment to me is the defining quality in anyone striving
- 37:55Speaker 16: to be the best.
- 37:57Speaker 8: The super talent, the.
- 37:58Speaker 16: Big, strong, powerful, agile, good decision maker, great problem solver,
- 38:03Speaker 16: the really brilliant, physically gifted athlete who has outstanding, uncompromising
- 38:09Speaker 16: commitment to do whatever it takes to be successful. I've
- 38:12Speaker 16: seen four or five in 25 years.
- 38:15Speaker 9: Four or five.
- 38:16Speaker 16: If you think they're sitting at your breakfast table, You
- 38:19Speaker 16: just love them a lot.
- 38:22Speaker 6: Yeah. Sure.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Truth bombs there, hey?
- 38:24Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:25Speaker 2: Such a good piece. And a reality check.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:29Speaker 4: Because a lot of these youngsters who are quote unquote
- 38:32Speaker 4: prodigious talents end up resenting these sports down the line
- 38:37Speaker 4: as they get older.
- 38:38Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 38:39Speaker 2: Because of what it robbed them of in their childhood.
- 38:42Speaker 16: Right.
- 38:43Speaker 5: And also as parents, we must be honest with ourselves.
- 38:46Speaker 5: Am I doing this for myself or for the kids?
- 38:49Speaker 5: You know, sometimes there are parents who want to live
- 38:53Speaker 5: vicariously through their children.
- 38:55Speaker 1: Do you know....
- 38:58Speaker 5: And it's so sad to see because you also see
- 39:01Speaker 5: these little babies who just want to make their mommy
- 39:03Speaker 5: and daddy happy.
- 39:05Speaker 2: But at what cost?
- 39:06Speaker 1: I've got this... I got sent this message a couple
- 39:09Speaker 1: weeks ago, you know, for group therapy. You've got a problem,
- 39:12Speaker 1: we discuss it and we'll try and solve it. And
- 39:17Speaker 1: I was going to maybe... Do it sometime down the line.
- 39:19Speaker 1: But basically this dad says, what do I do here?
- 39:25Speaker 1: I've got a daughter that goes to singing lessons. It's
- 39:30Speaker 1: 3,000 Rand a month. After eight months, my daughter can't sing.
- 39:37Speaker 1: She's never going to sing. She's never going to be
- 39:39Speaker 1: more than a first round on an idols contest. And
- 39:43Speaker 1: that is it. What do I do?
- 39:46Speaker 2: She enjoys it.
- 39:47Speaker 5: But isn't that sometimes the most loving thing to say?
- 39:52Speaker 13: No, I'm being.
- 39:53Speaker 2: Tough love sometimes to be like my baby.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Because the daughter thinks she's going to be Taylor Swift.
- 40:00Speaker 1: I love the dream. And you know what I say?
- 40:01Speaker 1: You know what I say? This is what I always
- 40:03Speaker 1: tell to my boys. It's not up to you to
- 40:07Speaker 1: banish their dream. Let them dream at this age and
- 40:11Speaker 1: let them dream big. There will come a time in
- 40:14Speaker 1: their life when they will get to that reality themselves.
- 40:18Speaker 1: It's not up to us to kill their dreams. What
- 40:21Speaker 1: do you want to be? You want to be a princess.
- 40:25Speaker 1: You want to be a mechanic, a lawyer, a sports star.
- 40:29Speaker 5: But Uncle Darren, in this economy, if now the classes
- 40:32Speaker 5: are 3K a month.
- 40:34Speaker 3: No, but if you can afford it, like you can sing, man.
- 40:36Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? If mommy and daddy can't now,
- 40:40Speaker 2: you know? Then, I mean, the reality is different.
- 40:43Speaker 1: There's a different discussion altogether. And that is why maybe
- 40:47Speaker 1: it needs to be discussed.
- 40:48Speaker 2: And that's what I'm saying because that's where many people
- 40:50Speaker 2: are at, you know? It's tough.
- 40:51Speaker 1: Okay.
- 40:56Speaker 16: Okay.
- 40:57Speaker 1: We've got to get to news, and I've still got
- 40:59Speaker 1: to get to the manslaughter story.
- 41:01Speaker 4: All right.
- 41:01Speaker 1: So we inadvertently stumbled on quite a hot topic. There's some–
- 41:09Speaker 1: I was saying about the group therapy that we were
- 41:11Speaker 1: going to– that I got a message. Somebody didn't know
- 41:13Speaker 1: how to deal with the situation, and it was– we
- 41:16Speaker 1: were going to discuss it, but now we're here. So–
- 41:23Speaker 1: This parent said, listen, what do I do here? What's
- 41:26Speaker 1: the experience? Singing lessons for my daughter cost 3,000 Rand
- 41:31Speaker 1: a month. And now my daughter, I can see my
- 41:36Speaker 1: daughter is not going to be a singer.
- 41:40Speaker 2: This is a hobby.
- 41:41Speaker 1: Yes, yes. And it's sucking all our money out of
- 41:46Speaker 1: the family. What do I do? And it's a difficult one.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Remind me again, how old is the daughter? Does he say?
- 41:53Speaker 1: I don't want to say because I don't want the
- 41:58Speaker 1: kid to work out. Well, this could be me.
- 42:00Speaker 2: But primary school or high school?
- 42:03Speaker 1: I'm not going to know.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Okay.
- 42:05Speaker 4: Okay.
- 42:06Speaker 2: No, that's okay. All right. And we're not saying the.
- 42:09Speaker 4: Baby can't sing and enjoy singing.
- 42:14Speaker 2: Hobbies are important too. They feed the soul and the spirit. Absolutely.
- 42:19Speaker 1: You know what the thing is? This is the difficult one.
- 42:22Speaker 1: I love seeing kids dream. I love seeing them dream
- 42:26Speaker 1: and want to be this and want to be that
- 42:28Speaker 1: and they're inspired by everything they see and they want
- 42:30Speaker 1: to be big and great. Down the line, that might
- 42:37Speaker 1: change as they grow up. Look, I'll tell you now,
- 42:41Speaker 1: no 10-year-old kid has ever woken up wanting to be
- 42:48Speaker 1: an accountant.
- 42:51Speaker 5: Maybe there's a 10-year-old out there.
- 42:54Speaker 1: But by 17, that kid might want to be whatever
- 42:58Speaker 1: sport they play and they want to be a pro,
- 43:00Speaker 1: want to be a professional cricketer. Later on, they realize
- 43:04Speaker 1: for themselves, well, you know what, maybe I actually want
- 43:06Speaker 1: to be a accountant. That's my dream.
- 43:07Speaker 2: But also, not.
- 43:08Speaker 4: Everything in life is about just living for a career,
- 43:12Speaker 4: for a job, for work. There are so many parts
- 43:15Speaker 4: of what make us human. So many interesting things about
- 43:18Speaker 4: ourselves that are outside of what we do professionally. So
- 43:21Speaker 4: you can still dream of a life that also includes
- 43:25Speaker 4: other bits.
- 43:26Speaker 2: That's not just... what am I going to be when
- 43:30Speaker 2: I grow up? Or am I good at doing this thing?
- 43:32Speaker 5: Some things can just be for enjoyment and doesn't have
- 43:36Speaker 5: to come with a 3,000 rand price tag.
- 43:39Speaker 2: That's just this auntie's opinion. Let's put the YouTube on
- 43:43Speaker 2: and learn stuff from YouTube. Let's sing karaoke. It's free.
- 43:50Speaker 1: Susie, you are singing away our sourdough money.
- 43:55Speaker 9: Do you know that?
- 43:57Speaker 1: Here's what you had to say.
- 43:58Speaker 13: Yeah, they didn't allow them to dream and dream big.
- 44:02Speaker 13: And then your child ends up on idols because mommy
- 44:05Speaker 13: and daddy allowed him to dream and never told him
- 44:08Speaker 13: he actually can't sing. And then your child becomes the
- 44:12Speaker 13: butt of the joke for the whole country to see.
- 44:14Speaker 13: Wouldn't it have been worth your while to tell him, listen, maybe,
- 44:17Speaker 13: you know, shift into something else? Or are you going
- 44:20Speaker 13: to allow them to pursue this.
- 44:22Speaker 17: False dream up until they get embarrassed? Isn't it your
- 44:26Speaker 17: job as a parent to prevent that from happening by
- 44:30Speaker 17: showing them that out there in this world, all dreams
- 44:33Speaker 17: do not come true, unfortunately?
- 44:35Speaker 9: Darren, when my son was in grade two or three,
- 44:39Speaker 9: he joined the choir. And bless his little soul, that
- 44:43Speaker 9: boy could not sing.
- 44:44Speaker 2: They actually asked.
- 44:46Speaker 9: Him to leave. And he wasn't too heartbroken about it.
- 44:50Speaker 9: I just reminded him that he would find other talents.
- 44:54Speaker 9: And we moved on with our lives. And I'm so
- 44:56Speaker 9: grateful for that teacher that didn't allow him to come
- 45:00Speaker 9: back to choir practice because he can't sing now and
- 45:04Speaker 9: he's 16.
- 45:06Speaker 2: He still can't sing. Yeah, I too was asked to
- 45:10Speaker 2: leave the choir. And thank you to that teacher because
- 45:14Speaker 2: then I knew singing wasn't my thing. But it's fine.
- 45:18Speaker 2: There's hockey. There's other things to do.
- 45:20Speaker 1: I too was a first-round contestant on idols. On Idles 1.
- 45:26Speaker 1: I've told you the story. But you went there, jokingly.
- 45:29Speaker 1: I went there as a joke. I went there to
- 45:32Speaker 1: have a laugh.
- 45:33Speaker 4: How funny would it have been if you actually could
- 45:35Speaker 4: hold a note and they were like, we didn't know.
- 45:38Speaker 2: There was a hidden talent here.
- 45:39Speaker 1: But you know what, Sibs? When I stepped up on
- 45:41Speaker 1: that Idles logo, I thought, what if this joke falls
- 45:45Speaker 1: flat and they say you threw to the next round?
- 45:49Speaker 1: I actually believed that.
- 45:50Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 45:54Speaker 1: It's like when I jumped in the swimming pool and
- 45:56Speaker 1: I raced Rake Nietling in a school swimming pool.
- 46:00Speaker 2: Like I could actually do this.
- 46:01Speaker 1: And I thought, what if I embarrass this guy? Because
- 46:07Speaker 1: I had flippers on. And I thought, what if I win?
- 46:11Speaker 1: That's not going to look good. Maybe I'm going to
- 46:13Speaker 1: have to fake a loss here. And then I dived in.
- 46:17Speaker 1: And I was swimming and I was hitting it. I
- 46:20Speaker 1: was slapping that water, you know, like a real amateur.
- 46:22Speaker 1: And you're like torpedoing through this water. It looked like
- 46:25Speaker 1: a jacuzzi, you know. And my lane was a jacuzzi.
- 46:29Speaker 1: And I looked, he was in, I was lane five,
- 46:31Speaker 1: he was lane six. And I looked in front of me.
- 46:34Speaker 1: There was no rake. And I was like, I'm actually
- 46:38Speaker 1: beating this guy. I've got a chance. Little did I know,
- 46:41Speaker 1: he swam the whole lap underwater. He was already finished.
- 46:43Speaker 1: He was on the other side.
- 46:45Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 46:46Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 46:46Speaker 1: And then I thought, okay.
- 46:48Speaker 5: Okay.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Settle down. Settle down, little guy. Settle down.
- 46:52Speaker 8: Okay.
- 46:53Speaker 1: The one thing that I'll tell you just on the
- 46:55Speaker 1: back of the sports thing, one thing that Gordon Iggerson
- 46:57Speaker 1: told me, Bafana, Bafana coach, and he's won four PSL
- 47:07Speaker 1: titles with four different teams. He said to me, the
- 47:10Speaker 1: best footballers that he sees come through are not footballers.
- 47:17Speaker 1: that at the age of 10 focused just on football
- 47:21Speaker 1: and cut out all other sports he said the best
- 47:24Speaker 1: footballers that he's ever seen were multi-disciplined they did running
- 47:28Speaker 1: at school they played tennis at school they did a
- 47:31Speaker 1: bit of cricket they did a whole bunch of things
- 47:34Speaker 1: it all develops different different aspects so if you just
- 47:38Speaker 1: focus on one too early said it's um Not going
- 47:42Speaker 1: to probably work out for you. But anyways, let me
- 47:44Speaker 1: tell you about the almost manslaughter that happened backstage at
- 47:49Speaker 1: Wacken's All-Star Comedy Jam on Saturday night, right? And I
- 47:52Speaker 1: was actually quite panicked. I was ready to call the
- 47:55Speaker 1: police because this happened backstage. So I've got producer Jeanne there.
- 48:01Speaker 1: She's my backstage manager.
- 48:03Speaker 2: Was she head of security?
- 48:04Speaker 1: Head of security, backstage manager. I've got producer Brad. who's
- 48:09Speaker 1: the hype DJ at the start of the show.
- 48:11Speaker 8: Head of entertainment.
- 48:12Speaker 1: Well done, producer Brad.
- 48:13Speaker 2: Music looked great.
- 48:15Speaker 1: Firstly, it was two great nights. Thank you very much
- 48:18Speaker 1: for all who came. It was really incredible. And so
- 48:24Speaker 1: then it's about six o'clock, right? We're all feeling a
- 48:28Speaker 1: little bit hungry. So I was like, okay, Jean, can
- 48:33Speaker 1: you go to like Burger King? Get us some burgers
- 48:37Speaker 1: and stuff. Coke, chips and stuff. So she comes back.
- 48:42Speaker 1: And then, now Brad's obviously diabetic, right?
- 48:46Speaker 8: Oh, no.
- 48:48Speaker 1: She gives Brad the non-diet Coke. She gives Brad full
- 48:53Speaker 1: sugar Coke. Okay. And now Brad is sucking this thing
- 48:57Speaker 1: back and he's thirsty.
- 48:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 48:59Speaker 1: And it's a big one, right? It's like the biggest
- 49:03Speaker 1: one you can have. Brad's going, you know, and Brad
- 49:06Speaker 1: is like, he's like, you know, the kid that isn't
- 49:08Speaker 1: allowed sweets at their house and they go to a
- 49:10Speaker 1: children's party and the kid claps all the sweets there.
- 49:14Speaker 1: It goes home, bounces off the walls. So Brad's clapping
- 49:18Speaker 1: this thing. He's like left the burger. and the chips
- 49:20Speaker 1: he doesn't know this burger king coke is the burger
- 49:24Speaker 1: king diet coke is the best in the world you
- 49:27Speaker 1: know they're gone gone gone next thing i'm tasting mine
- 49:32Speaker 1: and i'll go now i'll go you know full sugar
- 49:35Speaker 1: full I'm like, this doesn't taste nice. This is not
- 49:39Speaker 1: my taste. Then I'm like, wait a minute. This is
- 49:43Speaker 1: the diet. And then, oh, sorry, I gave you guys
- 49:48Speaker 1: the wrong one. I switched them. And I'm like, oh,
- 49:52Speaker 1: Brad's finished. He's got this inbuilt diabetic alarm. And this
- 49:57Speaker 1: thing starts going, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep,
- 50:00Speaker 1: like a truck reversing. I thought they were bringing the
- 50:02Speaker 1: stage in. And then I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa. Brad,
- 50:06Speaker 1: so now he checks his machine. His sugar should be
- 50:10Speaker 1: at five. Yeah. Should be at five, right?
- 50:12Speaker 2: That's stable?
- 50:14Speaker 1: That's fine. Okay.
- 50:15Speaker 2: Where was it?
- 50:19Speaker 1: It was at 30 plus. The machine doesn't go higher
- 50:24Speaker 1: than 30. It, it, like... I don't think it's ever
- 50:27Speaker 1: expected anybody to be 30 plus, his sugar.
- 50:31Speaker 4: Doesn't expect someone to suck down the sugary Burger King drink.
- 50:35Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Now I'm thinking, I'm going to have to
- 50:38Speaker 1: take him to the hospital. Firstly, I'm going to find
- 50:39Speaker 1: the police because there's an attempted... Jean needs to be held. Yes,
- 50:44Speaker 1: totally accountable. There's a manslaughter charge here. Whether it was
- 50:47Speaker 1: intentional or not, maybe it's murder one. I don't know.
- 50:50Speaker 1: We'll let the cops work that out. But now this guy,
- 50:53Speaker 1: so now he pulls out his EpiPen and he's, CCs
- 50:56Speaker 1: to the max.
- 50:58Speaker 4: Is everyone calm at this point, Derek?
- 51:02Speaker 2: Is Brad calm? Are you calm?
- 51:03Speaker 1: No, no, Brad's almost in a coma.
- 51:05Speaker 17: Okay.
- 51:05Speaker 1: He's almost in a sugar coma.
- 51:08Speaker 5: But now he's also his own hero trying to save
- 51:10Speaker 5: his own life.
- 51:11Speaker 3: He's still focused enough, compass mentors to, you know, inject himself.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Because I always said to Brad, because he's been down
- 51:19Speaker 1: this road a few times before with me, and I said,
- 51:21Speaker 1: stop it mouth to mouth.
- 51:23Speaker 2: Why are you always at the scene, Darren?
- 51:26Speaker 3: Mouth to mouth, there has no place in diabetes.
- 51:29Speaker 5: Also, when it comes to saving my life, there better
- 51:31Speaker 5: be no limits.
- 51:32Speaker 1: You know what? If Brad got into a diabetic coma,
- 51:35Speaker 1: I honestly wouldn't know what to do. Like, I don't know.
- 51:37Speaker 1: Do I shove white bread to soak up the sugar?
- 51:40Speaker 1: Do I shove that charcoal?
- 51:42Speaker 2: White bread, that's more sugar.
- 51:43Speaker 1: I wouldn't know what to do. I'm not trained. The
- 51:45Speaker 1: first thing I'd do is mouth to mouth and hit
- 51:47Speaker 1: his chest.
- 51:47Speaker 2: Oh, my word.
- 51:48Speaker 1: But anyways... That's what happened. And then the whole time
- 51:53Speaker 1: he was hitting this insulin.
- 51:55Speaker 2: He was.
- 51:56Speaker 1: And then he was borrowing a friend of mine's GLP-1s
- 52:00Speaker 1: because he ran out and then he's hitting this thing.
- 52:03Speaker 1: And then... What in the Bear Grylls?
- 52:08Speaker 3: I wish Brad was telling us his version.
- 52:14Speaker 1: He was on a different plane at that point, yeah.
- 52:16Speaker 3: I saw him jawing on the internet.
- 52:18Speaker 2: I mean, maybe it was this before or after.
- 52:20Speaker 6: No, no, no.
- 52:21Speaker 1: We got him right.
- 52:21Speaker 2: We got him right.
- 52:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 52:24Speaker 2: In conclusion.
- 52:25Speaker 16: Be careful.
- 52:26Speaker 2: You stay away from Brad. Anytime you are around, these
- 52:31Speaker 2: things happen. And don't put Jean in control, clearly, of
- 52:36Speaker 2: the takeaways.
- 52:37Speaker 1: No, no, no. When they clip that little, push that
- 52:40Speaker 1: button on the top of the plastic cup, be sure.
- 52:44Speaker 2: Be very sure.
- 52:45Speaker 1: Be sure which one means diet and which one means
- 52:48Speaker 1: full sugar.
- 52:49Speaker 7: Wow.
- 52:50Speaker 2: Hectic. Next time, Brad must just get a sparkling water.
- 52:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:54Speaker 4: Hey, don't deprive the man of his Diet Coke. That
- 52:58Speaker 4: Diet Coke can save your life.
- 53:00Speaker 1: But I promise you, I've never checked an oak enjoy
- 53:02Speaker 1: a drink like this before.
- 53:03Speaker 2: I feel like he knew, man, Darren. He knew. He
- 53:06Speaker 2: knew it was bad stuff. No caution to the wind.
- 53:08Speaker 2: He was like, I'm here now.
- 53:10Speaker 1: This was like, oh, this was the greatest thing ever.
- 53:15Speaker 2: KFM Mornings with Darren, Sherlyn, Sibs and you.
- 53:19Speaker 9: Uh-oh.
- 53:20Speaker 2: Here we go. Here we go.
- 53:22Speaker 13: Here is another senseless survey from Darren Wackhead Simpson on
- 53:27Speaker 13: KFM Mornings.
- 53:28Speaker 2: KFM Mornings.
- 53:31Speaker 1: Okay. Here we go. Senseless survey time as we always
- 53:35Speaker 1: do on a Monday. Glad to see you here, Producer Brad.
- 53:40Speaker 16: Yay!
- 53:41Speaker 1: What is your sugar level on now?
- 53:43Speaker 8: It's on seven. Glad to be here after the attempted murder.
- 53:46Speaker 1: Sure.
- 53:48Speaker 2: Good to have you.
- 53:49Speaker 4: And please tell me, Brad, what is it like having
- 53:51Speaker 4: friends like Jean and Darren around when you have a
- 53:55Speaker 4: medical emergency?
- 53:57Speaker 8: I know Jean would help.
- 54:02Speaker 7: But Darren as he said there's no mouth to mouth
- 54:05Speaker 7: so there's a level he will go to before he
- 54:08Speaker 7: just goes sorry brother yeah because once we're there.
- 54:13Speaker 1: There's no turning back.
- 54:16Speaker 2: Oh, you're scared you won't stop yourself? What? You're Darren.
- 54:22Speaker 1: If those eyes are open, Brad. If his eyes are open.
- 54:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, those are very blue, hey?
- 54:29Speaker 1: You get lost in those eyes, you know what I mean?
- 54:31Speaker 7: But you learn new stuff all the time because I've
- 54:33Speaker 7: been diabetic for a long time now and I didn't
- 54:36Speaker 7: know mouth-to-mouth was an option to save someone.
- 54:39Speaker 2: So thanks, Darren.
- 54:40Speaker 1: For me, any medical emergency, that's the first thing I
- 54:43Speaker 1: think you have to do. But this is the scary thing, though.
- 54:48Speaker 1: This is very scary. I wouldn't know what to do.
- 54:52Speaker 1: I might hurt you more. Maybe that's the wrong thing.
- 54:54Speaker 4: There are some people who have offered up their services
- 54:56Speaker 4: saying they're willing to train you so that you can
- 54:59Speaker 4: actually be of use when something like this happens again.
- 55:03Speaker 2: Clearly, the Pinetown first aid course of 1993... No.
- 55:07Speaker 1: You just died. In Pinetown, you died.
- 55:10Speaker 2: Is needing a refresh.
- 55:12Speaker 1: And then we had the funeral and then we moved on.
- 55:15Speaker 1: Moved on.
- 55:16Speaker 8: Now, the diabetics know how to look after themselves. So you...
- 55:20Speaker 8: There's nothing you will have to do.
- 55:22Speaker 2: That you don't know.
- 55:22Speaker 7: There's actually not a lot of education on it, but
- 55:26Speaker 7: you figure it out as you go.
- 55:27Speaker 5: You need to know how to save yourself.
- 55:31Speaker 7: Yeah, otherwise you end up in ICU a couple of
- 55:33Speaker 7: times like I did.
- 55:35Speaker 8: It's just like educating yourself.
- 55:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I've had those calls. Brad's in hospital.
- 55:42Speaker 7: When I was younger, it happened a lot because they
- 55:44Speaker 7: just go, sorry to interrupt you for a second, but
- 55:47Speaker 7: they're like, okay, you type 1 diabetic, here's your insulin.
- 55:51Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 55:51Speaker 8: And it's like, avoid carbs. And that was like my education.
- 55:54Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 55:55Speaker 1: It's changed a lot since then.
- 55:57Speaker 4: Yeah, 100%.
- 55:57Speaker 7: Yeah, so I had to like figure it out.
- 55:59Speaker 2: Learn it.
- 56:00Speaker 1: Brad and I won the golf course one day.
- 56:01Speaker 12: Oh.
- 56:02Speaker 1: And it was hot, hot. And we were hitting the
- 56:06Speaker 1: whole day.
- 56:06Speaker 8: We were hitting inner jades.
- 56:07Speaker 1: Oh, guys. We were clapping those inner jades. Pa, pa, pa, pa.
- 56:12Speaker 1: We finished golf. Yeah, this guy goes, oh, no, I'm
- 56:15Speaker 1: not feeling so well. So then, He gets up to
- 56:19Speaker 1: walk to the toilet. I think he's maybe nauseous or something.
- 56:23Speaker 1: He gets up and, boom, flutters across three tables. Bam!
- 56:28Speaker 1: Chaos past that.
- 56:29Speaker 8: Darren, that was sunstruck.
- 56:32Speaker 1: That's what he says.
- 56:33Speaker 2: That's what he says.
- 56:34Speaker 1: And then I just... I phoned somebody and said, come
- 56:41Speaker 1: and get him.
- 56:41Speaker 7: And then he got the CCTV footage to laugh about
- 56:45Speaker 7: it on Monday.
- 56:47Speaker 2: As true friends do. Of course. Only the best. Only
- 56:50Speaker 2: the real ones.
- 56:54Speaker 1: Okay. So it's a good thing for the future, I think.
- 56:59Speaker 17: Okay.
- 57:02Speaker 1: First date, everybody should know. But anyways, senseless survey for now.
- 57:12Speaker 1: Give me a guess here, Sherlyn, how many questions?
- 57:14Speaker 2: Twelve.
- 57:15Speaker 1: Twelve. Sibs?
- 57:17Speaker 2: Eight questions.
- 57:18Speaker 6: Eight.
- 57:18Speaker 1: Okay.
- 57:19Speaker 2: Ramiz? Eleven questions. Eleven.
- 57:21Speaker 1: And Producer Brad?
- 57:22Speaker 8: Fifteen.
- 57:23Speaker 1: Fifteen. All right. Okay. I must warn you, I had
- 57:28Speaker 1: a wiggly microphone connection here. A loose wire in my microphone.
- 57:34Speaker 2: Don't give us excuses here. We want high quality stuff.
- 57:37Speaker 1: No, you'll hear the microphone goes in and out and
- 57:40Speaker 1: it phases a bit. It's sorted, but not at this time.
- 57:43Speaker 1: All right, here.
- 57:45Speaker 4: We go.
- 57:46Speaker 1: Good morning, sir. I'm calling you from the Senseless Bureau.
- 57:50Speaker 1: There were a few questions that you forgot to answer
- 57:53Speaker 1: on your census form. I'd see to go through them
- 57:55Speaker 1: right now with you quickly, okay?
- 57:57Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 57:59Speaker 1: When you think of your grandma, what does she smell like?
- 58:04Speaker 1: My grandma.
- 58:05Speaker 8: Food.
- 58:07Speaker 1: Is your personality a mix between a five-year-old who can't
- 58:10Speaker 1: control emotions, a teenager who makes poor life decisions, and
- 58:14Speaker 1: an 80-year-old who is tired and always needs a nap?
- 58:17Speaker 7: No.
- 58:22Speaker 1: How helpful was your GPS in finding yourself?
- 58:28Speaker 2: Very bad.
- 58:29Speaker 1: How can anybody trust a glue that does not stick
- 58:32Speaker 1: to the inside of its own bottle?
- 58:39Speaker 2: Okay, that's a good one.
- 58:43Speaker 6: I have no idea.
- 58:45Speaker 1: When you're trying to find out who views your Facebook
- 58:48Speaker 1: profile the most, do you know that to find the answer,
- 58:52Speaker 1: you just need to look in the mirror? No, I
- 58:57Speaker 1: didn't know that one. What is your favorite word to
- 59:00Speaker 1: say in slow motion? Uh, Thank you.
- 59:05Speaker 5: F you.
- 59:07Speaker 1: Can you pick your nose with your thumb?
- 59:11Speaker 6: No.
- 59:13Speaker 1: Have you ever been so bored that you purposely unblocked
- 59:16Speaker 1: an ex just to start an argument?
- 59:21Speaker 9: No.
- 59:22Speaker 1: Sir, is most of being an adult whispering this while
- 59:27Speaker 1: doing it anyways?
- 59:31Speaker 6: No.
- 59:32Speaker 1: How many sisters have you got?
- 59:33Speaker 9: Three.
- 59:36Speaker 1: And which one of your sisters is the best kisser?
- 59:38Speaker 2: No.
- 59:41Speaker 1: Samantha?
- 59:42Speaker 13: What?
- 59:44Speaker 1: Okay, normally people don't answer that question.
- 59:46Speaker 10: Anyway.
- 59:48Speaker 9: Samantha?
- 59:53Speaker 2: What?
- 59:54Speaker 8: What is going on there?
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: I was expecting him to put the phone down on
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: that question.
- 1:00:05Speaker 8: He did eventually.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: Eventually.
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: So he's the problem, not the person who brought the
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: question to the table in the first place.
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: Is Samantha okay?
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: All right, that's your Senseless Survey. We've got some awesome
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: prizes on the Wheel of Joy. Who's going to win them?
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: What are you going to get? Morning, Nicky in Somerset West.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: Good morning, team.
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: How are you all going?
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: We are good, thanks, Nicky Nacks. Do people call you
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: Nicky Nacks? No.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: Nicky Nicks?
- 1:00:47Speaker 17: Nicky Nicks, yes, maybe.
- 1:00:48Speaker 9: Maybe.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: She's like, I've heard it once.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: Because I know a lot of Nickys.
- 1:00:55Speaker 13: Yeah, there is a lot of Nickies and a lot
- 1:00:58Speaker 13: of ways to spell.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: It as well. It was a real sort of, when
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: I was growing up, everybody was in love with a Nicky.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: They were just Nickies all around.
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: But Nicky is the nickname or Nicky is the full name?
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: No, it's short for Nicola, it must be.
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: Full name.
- 1:01:18Speaker 8: Is Nicky the full name?
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: That's unusual.
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: Yes. So your ID says Nicky. My ID says Nikki, yes. Okay,
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: plot twist.
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: And is that spelled N-I-C-K-Y?
- 1:01:31Speaker 9: No, N-I-C-K-I.
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: Because there's also N-I-K-K-I. So many ways to go.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: A lot of ways to spell my name. Because your
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: Nikki would kind of take on the Russian spellings.
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: Oh, we're going into linguistics now, Darren.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: Like Nikolai. Nikolai.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: So you're not Nicole. You're not Nikola. You are just Nikki.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: I'm just Nikki.
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: How fun. Just Nikki.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: Well, welcome, Nikki. We're going to spin the Wheel of Joy.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: Thank you. How many questions did I ask this morning?
- 1:02:03Speaker 8: Ten.
- 1:02:04Speaker 5: Ten.
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: That's the correct answer. Well done.
- 1:02:06Speaker 17: All right.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: Let's see what we can get for you on the
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: Wheel of Joy. So many great prizes. As always, there's
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: a great dinner voucher experience. There's a scholarship as well.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: How would you like to become a plumber in your
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: life now, Nikki?
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: Learn a trade.
- 1:02:23Speaker 17: It's valuable.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: I've got an 80,000 rand scholarship to new gen trade schools.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: You can go and become a plumber.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: Or electrician. No, thank you. Okay.
- 1:02:35Speaker 13: No, thank you.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: Okay, we've got 100 litres of diesel. Maybe a full
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: set of lash extensions and brow laminations.
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: Tickets for shows.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: What is brow lamination? Is that when you've got two
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: eyebrows and they put the bit in the middle for
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: a unibrow?
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: I hope not.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: Is that not what it is? No. What is it, Vanes?
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: Let me use the word stenciling then. It's not the
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: full one where they tattoo on the eyebrows.
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: It's lighter and it fades away, so you're going to
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: have to do it more regularly. But they're going to
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: bump up your eyebrows.
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: You're going to fill it in and it's, yeah.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: Well, that's one of the procedures that they do. Otherwise,
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: you can never see it. Look, there's lots. We've got
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: ice cream. We've got tickets to stuff. We've got it all.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: But we're going to spin the wheel and whatever it
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: lands on, that's what you get. All right, Nikki Nix?
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: I'm going to do the same thing.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: Okay, how do you want us to spin the wheel,
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: fast or slow, left or right?
- 1:03:41Speaker 5: Fast and left.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: Fast and left, okay. Anti-clockwise and give it a massive,
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: there we go. You have, hold on, it's coming to
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: me now, the prize. It's coming to me, you have won,
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: can you believe it, Nicky Nick's. This might sound contrived.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: It's absolutely not. This is what it legit landed on,
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: a full set of lash extensions, brow lamination if you wish, whatever.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: There's a whole bunch of treatments. You can go and
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: pick what you want to the value of 2,000 rand. Wonderful.
- 1:04:23Speaker 6: In Stelly's?
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: Yes, in Stellenbosch. Enjoy.
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: Oh, okay. It's just around the corner.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: Yeah, so Somerset, how long is the hop from Somerset
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: West to Stelly's?
- 1:04:35Speaker 14: Depending on traffic, 20, 30 minutes.
- 1:04:38Speaker 8: Okay.
- 1:04:38Speaker 17: All right.
- 1:04:39Speaker 8: Okay.
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: Well, that's where you're going, Nikki. Wonderful.
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: Ciao, ciao.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: Thanks for listening.
- 1:04:45Speaker 13: Bye-bye. Cheers.
- 1:04:47Speaker 6: Bye-bye, guys.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: Bye-bye.

- 1:06:51Speaker 1: Don't let it stress your heart too much, Shirlen.
- 1:06:55Speaker 5: Sure, it's been a while since I've won the week.
- 1:06:58Speaker 5: I'm not stressed out, but we're serious.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: That heart of yours has got to work for at
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: least another 45 years. Don't put unnecessary strain on it.
- 1:07:07Speaker 9: Only 45?
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: How old are you now? How old are you now?
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: No, I still want to see my great-great-grandchildren, God willing, Darren.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: But you what, 38?
- 1:07:15Speaker 9: 36.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: 36.
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: See, in that age where you don't know. Can you
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: see how quickly time goes?
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: You just guess.
- 1:07:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: You just guess.
- 1:07:24Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: How much time left for you, Dan? Thank you, Sibs.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: I've got 22 more summers.
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 1:07:34Speaker 8: What?
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: No, man.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: Give yourself more than just that. 22 Christmases.
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: No, no, no. Average dude is 72.
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: And also, you go by your family and genetics, you know. Generally,
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: when does everybody go?
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: 80s yeah yeah but you know those goalposts are moving rapidly.
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: With a changing society and world.
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: We live a lot longer yeah medicines and lifestyles and
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: everything those goalposts not our grandparents goalposts anymore okay so
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: so i got another 50 years yeah all right.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: Um oh it's me okay He's going to be winning
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: Vinyl Classic for the next 50 years.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: Can you imagine? You're going to have to get another
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: trophy because it doesn't fit my name on there.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: He's manifesting.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: Like what Mo Salah said in the Monday Motivation. Visualize it. So, yeah,
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: I think in 50 years' time, this will probably, it
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: will have been, there will be people living there on
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: the moon. I think that's what this movie was about.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: I remember the song. I forget the movie.
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: When you stay winning, the story doesn't matter. The song
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: doesn't matter. People just vote for you.
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: The thing is, I know the scene. I can see
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: the scene. I think they were trying to go live
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: on the moon, but it's Aerosmith, the song. So somebody
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: sent me the plot. It's Armageddon, and an asteroid was
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: coming to kill everybody on Earth. Thank you very much
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: for that. I don't know if you see what I fall.
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: I drift in and out of consciousness during movies. I'll
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: see a bit at the beginning, and then I'll wake up.
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: Somewhere towards the end. So, yeah, I've missed some great movies.
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: But that's my song, Aerosmith. I don't want to miss
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: a thing. That's definitely your winner this morning. Thanks very much.
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: You can vote right now. Sherlyn, what have you got?
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: Why did Ramiz shake your hand just now, Darren?
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: He said thanks for the tickets for the comedy show
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: on the weekend. I said, it's a pleasure. Could have
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: saved this for after nine, but yeah.
- 1:09:43Speaker 5: Anyway, don't hate the player, hate the game. When someone
- 1:09:47Speaker 5: comes with a winning song, what are you going to do?
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: Sometimes you just got to let it be.
- 1:09:55Speaker 5: I know there's someone in traffic who has to sing
- 1:09:58Speaker 5: this this morning. Let it be The Beatles, your vinyl
- 1:10:03Speaker 5: classic this morning.
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: Come on, let it be. Let it out and let
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: it be with the Beatles.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: Sherlin for the win. Let's go, Cape Town.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: You don't even believe in yourself there, I could tell.
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: No, really.
- 1:10:21Speaker 5: You brought a winning song. I don't think there could
- 1:10:23Speaker 5: have been a more perfect song. Sometimes you just got.
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: To let it be. Let it be. What will be
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: will be. Let it be.
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: It sounds like that speech... What is that lady saying?
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: Let them. Let them.
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: Oh, Mel Robbins.
- 1:10:39Speaker 12: Yes.
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: Sherlyn Barnes. Let it be.
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: No, let it be. Protect your peace.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: You know, when somebody hates you, let it be.
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: Let it be, babes.
- 1:10:47Speaker 11: Let it be.
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: Somebody cuts you off in traffic.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: Let it be.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: Let it be.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: Let it be. You just want to sing along before
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: 9 o'clock in traffic. The Beatles, let it be.
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: Western Cape, what do you want? You want Beatles or
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: you want Mark Aerosmith? Vote now.
- 1:11:03Speaker 9: 082-945-0940.
- 1:11:04Speaker 17: KFM Mornings with Darren, Sherlyn, Sibs and you.
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: The final classic.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: On KFM Mornings.
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: I know it.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: Could go any way. I know it.
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: I know it. I know it.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: Why do I feel like Sherlyn's going to win?
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: Darren, do you know?
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: Shut up. I honestly do feel like you're going to.
- 1:11:22Speaker 9: Shut up.
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: It's the Beatles, Sherilyn. It's the Beatles. But let's see
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: what you voted for.
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: Sherilyn for the win. Sherilyn for the win.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: Sorry, Darren.
- 1:11:31Speaker 17: Sherilyn.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: Darren for the win, please. Sherilyn for today.
- 1:11:35Speaker 11: Sherilyn.
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: It must be. Let it be. Let it be.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: My vote goes for Darren.
- 1:11:40Speaker 5: See?
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: This win is for all of us.
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: I am.
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: Do you know when you are so scarred? and you
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: haven't won in so long. You're preaching to the choir.
- 1:11:49Speaker 5: You almost don't know what this feels like anymore.
- 1:11:51Speaker 12: Hallelujah!
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: Thank you, Western Cape. Thank you, Cape Town.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: I had a gut feeling.
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: Let it be. You shush, let's play the song. Oh,
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: felt nice to say that.
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: Well, that was actually lovely.
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: That was healing.
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: That was. Well done, Sherlyn Barnes. You're on the board.
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: We do it again tomorrow.
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: Absolutely. Thank you for listening. Have yourself a great Monday. Remember,
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: two things today. We've got rain in the mother city
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: later on. And the pollen bomb has arrived. Allergy sufferers,
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: it's going to be a tough week for you. Get
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: yourself some Texa allergy.
- 1:12:39Speaker 12: All right.
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: Other than that, thank you for listening and we will
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: see you tomorrow at 6 o'clock.
