- 0:00Speaker 1: It's head across and catch up with with Trent. Do
- 0:03Speaker 1: with in Catherine. Good morning, Trent.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Okay, long time.
- 0:08Speaker 1: How are you good mate? How are you good?
- 0:11Speaker 2: Thanks? Trucking a long trucking a lot down here.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Oh wonderful. Now I understand you're doing something. Well, it
- 0:17Speaker 1: sounds slightly crazy. You're swimming sixteen kilometers. When are you
- 0:22Speaker 1: doing this?
- 0:24Speaker 2: So it's a it's a stage thing. So I'm doing
- 0:26Speaker 2: especially a kilometer a day for sixteen days for Starlight
- 0:31Speaker 2: Children's Foundation, for a worthy cause.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Now this is wonderful. So sixteen so a kilometer a day.
- 0:38Speaker 1: That is much more attainable. Trent. I was thinking, you're
- 0:41Speaker 1: going to swim sixteen k's in one go and I thought,
- 0:44Speaker 1: goodness me, mate, that's going to.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Be a slot.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Rather be in a boach than swimming that far. Trent,
- 0:54Speaker 1: tell me why you've decided to do this.
- 0:58Speaker 2: So it's a super swim thing organized by the Starlight
- 1:02Speaker 2: Children's Foundation. And that's for me. That's a cause that's
- 1:05Speaker 2: pretty close to my heart because I have seen what
- 1:07Speaker 2: they do personally with my little girl and stuff in
- 1:10Speaker 2: the hospital. You know, they bring so much joy to
- 1:13Speaker 2: kids who are struggling and hospitals are a scary place,
- 1:17Speaker 2: and they just make it a lot more easy for
- 1:20Speaker 2: the kids to relate to people and things like that,
- 1:22Speaker 2: and a few toys and that. So yeah, it's a
- 1:23Speaker 2: great cause and I'm trying to raise five thousand bucks
- 1:26Speaker 2: for it. I think I'm up to about two and
- 1:28Speaker 2: a half grand, so I've got a little bit more
- 1:30Speaker 2: to go. But it is only day two. I knocked
- 1:32Speaker 2: out a cana half this morning, so we're getting there slowly.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Good on you, mate, That is awesome. Now talk me through, like,
- 1:41Speaker 1: how are you going? How long has it been since
- 1:44Speaker 1: you got in the water and swim a kilometer? I
- 1:46Speaker 1: know you've done one now in the last day, but
- 1:50Speaker 1: how long had it been?
- 1:52Speaker 2: So the last time I did it was the Catherine
- 1:55Speaker 2: Ultra Challenge. I got roped into swimming. It was three
- 1:58Speaker 2: point two kilometers back when it used to be a
- 1:59Speaker 2: little bit longer. I got roped into doing that probably
- 2:03Speaker 2: six years ago now, and now Katie, I'm a one
- 2:06Speaker 2: hundred and ten kilos. I'm a front roller. When I
- 2:09Speaker 2: was playing footage, so I think I don't swim, so
- 2:13Speaker 2: back then I had to sort of trade myself to swim,
- 2:16Speaker 2: and so that was the last time I did it, Yeah,
- 2:18Speaker 2: about six years ago. And I pulled my goggles out
- 2:20Speaker 2: the other day and the bloody strap snapped on the things.
- 2:23Speaker 2: It's been that long. It's a bit of a tough battle.
- 2:27Speaker 2: That's why I thought it was a worthy cause because
- 2:29Speaker 2: I'm swimming. You know, if you're not a swimmer, it's
- 2:31Speaker 2: a hard thing to do. So sixteen k is going
- 2:33Speaker 2: to knock me up, So it is.
- 2:36Speaker 1: It is very hard. Very important question though, Trent. You're
- 2:39Speaker 1: doing it without flippers?
- 2:41Speaker 2: I hope absolutely, no flippers, no boy, and see none
- 2:45Speaker 2: of that. I've got plenty of flubber to keep me
- 2:46Speaker 2: soloat it's more than propelling going forward that I struggle with.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Oh, good on you mate. Now tell me a little
- 2:54Speaker 1: bit about your little girl.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Yeah, So when she was about I think she was
- 3:01Speaker 2: eight or nine months old, we just noticed when she
- 3:04Speaker 2: was crawling that she was favoring one hand and it
- 3:07Speaker 2: wouldn't she wouldn't put any weight on it. When we
- 3:09Speaker 2: put her in the car seat, she was crying and
- 3:11Speaker 2: wincing a bit, and we went up to the hospital
- 3:13Speaker 2: and sort of, you know, the guys at the hospital
- 3:16Speaker 2: up here are so good within I don't know. It
- 3:18Speaker 2: was about forty five minutes to an hour. There's a
- 3:20Speaker 2: care flight on the way, and she's on her way
- 3:22Speaker 2: to darl And. Then there's some I can't pronounce what
- 3:24Speaker 2: it is, but there's something in the an infection that
- 3:27Speaker 2: gets into their bones, and so she had to be
- 3:30Speaker 2: flowing to darl And and she spent sort of three weeks
- 3:32Speaker 2: up there in the hospital on antibiotics and all that
- 3:35Speaker 2: sort of stuff, and my wife spent most of the
- 3:38Speaker 2: time up there with her. But the Starlight Children's Foundation
- 3:41Speaker 2: would come and see her almost daily and give her
- 3:44Speaker 2: little toys and just entertain her, and she absolutely loved them.
- 3:48Speaker 2: And the other thing on that as well. It's been
- 3:51Speaker 2: a personal thing with the little girl, but also Chris
- 3:55Speaker 2: Willow Wilson, he was always pestering me all the time
- 3:58Speaker 2: for donations for children's foundations for the auction ball. Yeah,
- 4:02Speaker 2: so it's always been something that I've been involved in. So, yeah,
- 4:06Speaker 2: it's a really good cause and something that I've seen
- 4:09Speaker 2: firsthand what they actually do.
- 4:11Speaker 1: What a beautiful thing to do. What's your little girl's name,
- 4:15Speaker 1: ayala Ayla? I bet she is just gorgeous And you
- 4:21Speaker 1: know that first hand. Experience of you know, what you've
- 4:24Speaker 1: gone through and what your family's gone through, and knowing
- 4:28Speaker 1: what a phenomenal job they do, I think is you know,
- 4:32Speaker 1: it's a real example of why that money does need
- 4:35Speaker 1: to be raised. But then you know, as you've touched
- 4:39Speaker 1: on there, you mate Willow and the work that he
- 4:42Speaker 1: used to do, and you know, supporting the Starlight Foundation,
- 4:46Speaker 1: I think that they're both such beautiful reasons for you
- 4:49Speaker 1: to do this.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, we've got to carry on the mantle for
- 4:53Speaker 2: the big follow And actually I slipped up the door
- 4:55Speaker 2: and you said, actually I had to do my first
- 4:56Speaker 2: swim at Pratt Pool yesterday because it was the first
- 4:59Speaker 2: of the month. So I was in Dar and I
- 5:01Speaker 2: actually did my first one up there. But as I
- 5:02Speaker 2: was driving into Dar and a Tiger Brennan, I looked
- 5:05Speaker 2: over on the right there and here's that massive grader
- 5:08Speaker 2: all done up in the Starlight Children's Foundation from Willows
- 5:12Speaker 2: that he's painted in the whole Starlight Children's Foundation. So
- 5:15Speaker 2: if you're cruising along and you see that over there,
- 5:17Speaker 2: it's a pretty cool thing.
- 5:19Speaker 1: That's beautiful, mate, that's a really what a nice thing
- 5:22Speaker 1: to do, and what a nice thing to say now
- 5:26Speaker 1: tell me if there is anybody listening this morning who
- 5:30Speaker 1: wants to donate to your very worthy cause and very
- 5:34Speaker 1: worthy fundraising efforts, where can they go?
- 5:38Speaker 2: So the easiest thing will probably be to jump on
- 5:40Speaker 2: the Roden Rifle Facebook page and you'll see my ugly mug.
- 5:45Speaker 2: They're doing a video on me on the actual swim
- 5:48Speaker 2: and there's a link underneath that which will take you
- 5:50Speaker 2: directly to my page where you'll be able to donate there.
- 5:53Speaker 2: And the choice is less. You can donate a dollar
- 5:56Speaker 2: if you want, It doesn't matter. Absolutely anything will help.
- 6:00Speaker 2: A lot of people sort of won't realize. You know,
- 6:01Speaker 2: the Starlight Foundation and what it does, but you won't
- 6:04Speaker 2: realize it until you need it, until you use it,
- 6:06Speaker 2: and then you'll go, jeez, that's a really worthy thing.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Because the hospital is a scary place for a kid,
- 6:11Speaker 2: but they just make it that little bit easier.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Yeah, you spot on trend to. I sometimes jump into
- 6:17Speaker 1: the barrapool and swimm kilometer as well, generally while my
- 6:19Speaker 1: children are doing laps in the squad. If I see
- 6:22Speaker 1: you there, well I won't put my flippers on next
- 6:25Speaker 1: to you because I feel embarrassed while you're swimming without
- 6:28Speaker 1: yours on.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Well, you'll know it's me, Katie, because I'm pretty sure
- 6:32Speaker 2: I go like a hurricane down there, splashing and all
- 6:34Speaker 2: sorts of things. Most people think I'm drowning half the time.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I reckon, So do not resuscitate you, do not try
- 6:40Speaker 1: to pull you out.
- 6:42Speaker 2: I'm not drowning. Don't train me the life ring. I think.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Your aleegend vay. Good on you. I think it's fantastic
- 6:51Speaker 1: what you're doing. And as you've seen, people can jump
- 6:53Speaker 1: on the Roden Rifle Facebook page and find out a
- 6:56Speaker 1: little bit more if they want to make a donation.
- 6:58Speaker 1: It is such a worthy cause. Good on your Trent.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Thanks Katie, cheers for the thanks.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Mate. Good to talk to you.
