Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Vincon Mecavini are UK europe correspondent with uscent this inquiry
- 0:04Speaker 1: into the death of Dawn sturges. This is the Novachok
- 0:07Speaker 1: incident in Salisbury. Will we hear a result?
- 0:11Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right. You might remember back in twenty eighteen
- 0:14Speaker 2: the Scripples a father and daughter. He was a Russian
- 0:17Speaker 2: dissident living here in the UK. They were poisoned, but
- 0:20Speaker 2: they survived. Then a few weeks later, Dawn Sturgis was
- 0:24Speaker 2: the recipient of a perfume bottle and it was actually
- 0:28Speaker 2: the Novechok spray used by the Russians. She used it
- 0:31Speaker 2: on herself and tragically died from that chemical. Well, there
- 0:35Speaker 2: has now been a lengthy investigation into exactly what happened,
- 0:38Speaker 2: and the British now believe that Vladimir Putin himself was
- 0:42Speaker 2: morally responsible for the death, that the order to kill
- 0:46Speaker 2: the tritus killed the Scripples came from the very top
- 0:49Speaker 2: of the Russian state, and that there was sadly nothing
- 0:52Speaker 2: that could have been done given the high dosage that
- 0:54Speaker 2: she took to survive what happened. So her family have
- 0:59Speaker 2: long campaigned for full answers on this and this is
- 1:01Speaker 2: a pretty detailed report very much pointing the finger at
- 1:04Speaker 2: the highest levels of the Russian government for this death.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Are they, because I knowe they say that he's potent
- 1:09Speaker 1: as morally responsible. Are they saying that he gave the order?
- 1:13Speaker 1: Is it go that far?
- 1:15Speaker 2: Well, essentially he seems to have given the order to
- 1:17Speaker 2: take out the scripples here in the UK. The scripples,
- 1:21Speaker 2: of course survives. We know they're living somewhere quietly in
- 1:25Speaker 2: under new identities now somewhere else in the world. But
- 1:29Speaker 2: the knock on effect of that was that he allowed
- 1:32Speaker 2: a chemical which his two agents, these two gru agents,
- 1:35Speaker 2: simply disposed of in the city. They didn't get rid
- 1:37Speaker 2: of it themselves, and it had enough of the poison
- 1:40Speaker 2: inside it to kill as many as potentially a thousand people.
- 1:44Speaker 2: And so it was their negligence whilst carrying out his
- 1:47Speaker 2: orders that meant that Dawnstair just died. So that is
- 1:49Speaker 2: why it's come in as being saying he is morally
- 1:51Speaker 2: responsible for this.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Thanks for the uplate, Vincent appreciated. Vincent Mecavini are UK
- 1:55Speaker 1: europe correspondent.
