- 0:00Speaker 1: This is football.
- 0:01Speaker 2: That's board.
- 0:02Speaker 3: We go back to last week and I realized that
- 0:04Speaker 3: people probably think that that the competition wasn't as good
- 0:07Speaker 3: when they played the Commanders, but they ran a lot
- 0:09Speaker 3: of their basic stuff. Their O line was blowing people
- 0:12Speaker 3: off the ball, and their run game looked really good.
- 0:15Speaker 3: In this game, they ran a lot of their basic
- 0:17Speaker 3: stuff and the on line was getting beat and missing blocks.
- 0:20Speaker 3: For me, that's a hard thing, you know, I know
- 0:22Speaker 3: the way fans think, Oh, you know, and you know too,
- 0:24Speaker 3: you get it. I don't know what people wanted them
- 0:27Speaker 3: to be doing. You know, did they want them to just,
- 0:30Speaker 3: you know, start doing flea flickers and gimmick plays? You know,
- 0:33Speaker 3: that's that's not who they are and that's not how
- 0:35Speaker 3: they're gonna win.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Oh the legend. Greg Cosell Inside the Birds Podcast. It's

- 0:57Speaker 1: filling in for Mike Gill and it is time for
- 1:00Speaker 1: all for Adam Kaplan joins us there and kind of
- 1:03Speaker 1: going off of what Greg Cosell said on Your Guys Show, Adam,
- 1:10Speaker 1: looking at last week's win over the Bills, I mean,
- 1:13Speaker 1: they didn't really do too many things differently than what
- 1:16Speaker 1: they did in the Commander's game as well as the
- 1:20Speaker 1: Raiders game.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Yeah, and Nick, I would say that, you know, the
- 1:25Speaker 2: first half though, the offense save the two plays that
- 1:29Speaker 2: started with Jeff and I talked about this after on
- 1:32Speaker 2: our pregame or postgame show. Rather you know the two
- 1:36Speaker 2: Jeff called him give up plays. I just called him
- 1:38Speaker 2: place where what are you doing? I mean, you can
- 1:40Speaker 2: call them give up plays, but it was just not
- 1:43Speaker 2: being aggressive. Because other than that, they were very aggressive
- 1:47Speaker 2: with twenty pass a Teff for hurts in the first half,
- 1:49Speaker 2: which is surprising being that was raining, but there was
- 1:52Speaker 2: really not any win to speak up talking to people
- 1:54Speaker 2: that were there, and second after the win picked up.
- 1:56Speaker 2: But I know what Greg's saying, because, yes, Nick, they
- 2:02Speaker 2: run a lot of basic concepts, but I know what
- 2:04Speaker 2: the fans want. The fans want more than hit routes.
- 2:07Speaker 2: They want more than the basic stuff. But you could
- 2:11Speaker 2: scream and yell all you want and get mad at Greg.
- 2:13Speaker 2: I you know, people get mad at us today. We're
- 2:16Speaker 2: not grading their scheme, folks. That's not what we're doing now.
- 2:19Speaker 2: In the off season, we're going to We're gonna And
- 2:22Speaker 2: by the way, Greg has every once in a while,
- 2:26Speaker 2: if you listen every week, and I know a lot of
- 2:28Speaker 2: people watch inside of Tepele listen, they know sometimes and
- 2:31Speaker 2: Greg just says, you know what, I gotta go a
- 2:33Speaker 2: little stronger on this. But you can't change your scheme
- 2:38Speaker 2: in season, Nick, just to finish this off. It's not
- 2:41Speaker 2: gonna happen. You can't do it. Nope, it's never been done.
- 2:44Speaker 2: You change it in the off season, and it's got
- 2:45Speaker 2: to be changed. I talked about this like six weeks
- 2:48Speaker 2: and six weeks ago on every show. Anyone who asking
- 2:51Speaker 2: about the Eagles proms and offense, the bad scheme. Everybody
- 2:55Speaker 2: I've talked to has told me this, And yet this
- 2:59Speaker 2: is what they're running, guys, this is it. But yet
- 3:02Speaker 2: Kurtz has actually played a lot better than people think lately.
- 3:05Speaker 4: So Adam in the Buffalo game, specifically in the second half,
- 3:09Speaker 4: was that them just kind of being content with going
- 3:12Speaker 4: three and out and giving the ball back to Buffalo
- 3:15Speaker 4: playing field position in the rain, protecting their lead. Or
- 3:19Speaker 4: was it them kind of reverting back to their old
- 3:21Speaker 4: ways of what we saw in the Denver game, the
- 3:23Speaker 4: Dallas game and the second half of those those games
- 3:27Speaker 4: with the three and outs and that sort of stuff.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Just so you know, no coach, ever, unless they want
- 3:32Speaker 2: it gets fired, would ever be content with going free
- 3:34Speaker 2: and out. They never talked like that, just so you know.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Well, I guess, I guess going back to their philosophy
- 3:39Speaker 4: of being risk averse, playing smart, costly turnovers, et cetera.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Yes, even worse, way more conservative. I I mean, if
- 3:47Speaker 2: you watch our post game show, that's what I talked about.
- 3:49Speaker 2: It's almost like a prevent offense. I think that's where
- 3:52Speaker 2: you're going. And I would agree with you that it
- 3:54Speaker 2: was just not the right way to play. I don't
- 3:57Speaker 2: And here now, I brought this up and said, they
- 4:00Speaker 2: like my comment on YouTube. I actually I was looking
- 4:03Speaker 2: over the comments today. They're they're they're pretty pretty strong today.
- 4:06Speaker 2: It was kind of funny people are pistol on the offense.
- 4:09Speaker 2: But it was the offensive show. Our defense shows tomorrow
- 4:11Speaker 2: with Greg. But guys, what you should understand is when
- 4:15Speaker 2: Nick was asked, this is actually a really interesting discussion,
- 4:18Speaker 2: and I really hope the UH tomorrow when they get Siriana,
- 4:22Speaker 2: they follow up because Nick was asked about the second
- 4:24Speaker 2: half and he said he had a help Patula, He's
- 4:26Speaker 2: got to do a better job of helping them. But
- 4:28Speaker 2: then he said a minute later, oh, well, you know,
- 4:30Speaker 2: I got to coach. The team's kind of tough. Well, no,
- 4:33Speaker 2: that's your job as a non play calling head coach.
- 4:35Speaker 2: You're CEO head coach. You got to be able to
- 4:38Speaker 2: help your offensive coordinator. It's your scheme. That's a bad excuse. Okay,
- 4:42Speaker 2: you're being honest about it, but what are you doing here?
- 4:45Speaker 2: And I also suggested that nixtion of high or senior
- 4:48Speaker 2: offensive assistant. That was a that was a mistake. I
- 4:51Speaker 2: actually Jeff and I talked, It's funny how things happen.
- 4:54Speaker 2: We talked about this in twenty twenty one. We were
- 4:57Speaker 2: told it was not going to happen though we suggested it.
- 5:00Speaker 2: We're told by a team source, no, he's not doing it.
- 5:03Speaker 2: That was a mistake, And now you're really seeing it
- 5:05Speaker 2: because he's got a rookie offensive coordinator that is struggling. Yes,
- 5:10Speaker 2: it's been better since the bye week. But this was
- 5:13Speaker 2: an abomination in the second half. But we got to
- 5:15Speaker 2: call it like it is. It was bad. You could
- 5:18Speaker 2: talk about being risk averse, but this was this was
- 5:20Speaker 2: way worse. All you had to do is what But
- 5:23Speaker 2: why couldn't they spread the field and still go five
- 5:25Speaker 2: eligible they do? You know what they're they're a success
- 5:29Speaker 2: rate when they go spread empty is ridiculous. You can
- 5:32Speaker 2: do that, There's nothing wrong with that.
- 5:36Speaker 1: We're talking with Adam Kaplan football at four and yeah,
- 5:39Speaker 1: I mean I saw the postgame show. You you criticized
- 5:42Speaker 1: Nick Sirianni to say the least Adam, but you know,
- 5:46Speaker 1: coming off of that second half, the way they struggled,
- 5:49Speaker 1: how should the Eagles approach this week's game against the Commanders? Uh,
- 5:53Speaker 1: what do you make of the whole health versus home
- 5:57Speaker 1: field kind of discussion?
- 5:59Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the look. That's that that'll be settled today internally,
- 6:03Speaker 2: and then they have to present it to the coaches,
- 6:05Speaker 2: who sues me to the players tomorrow when they come
- 6:06Speaker 2: back in for their walkthrough. So I'd be very surprised
- 6:11Speaker 2: if the starters play. I know that, I know, I
- 6:13Speaker 2: know some fans want to eat starters to start, and
- 6:16Speaker 2: but even if they do, I I would be stunned
- 6:19Speaker 2: if it's for very long. The way that a lot
- 6:22Speaker 2: of teams do it is now, I haven't looked into
- 6:25Speaker 2: this yet. I'll probably look into it later this week.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Some teams, because players have intentos, they'll play the starters
- 6:32Speaker 2: for a quarter and then get them out. So if
- 6:35Speaker 2: some of the egal starters on both sides of the
- 6:37Speaker 2: football have some incentives, they may allow them to play.
- 6:40Speaker 2: But there's a slippery slope. Just so you know, it's
- 6:44Speaker 2: extremely rare that you would sit your offensive lineman and
- 6:48Speaker 2: let your your starting quarterback play. It's I think it's
- 6:50Speaker 2: happened twice in my career. I can check it into
- 6:53Speaker 2: the stuff. It just doesn't happen really. So if if
- 6:58Speaker 2: they're gonna sit Jordan Mylotta, you can almost bet that
- 7:02Speaker 2: Perts one play number one, number two. Yes, they can
- 7:06Speaker 2: get the second seed. And it's not as complicated as
- 7:08Speaker 2: we thought two weeks ago. The scenarios are very simple.
- 7:12Speaker 2: They win Chicago Lows as they get it now. I
- 7:16Speaker 2: do believe this very strongly. I know Dang Campbell the
- 7:20Speaker 2: way he thinks talking to people, work with him. Him
- 7:22Speaker 2: and Ben Johnson had a very interesting relationship. I expect
- 7:26Speaker 2: the Lions, I know they're beat up on defense, to
- 7:29Speaker 2: come out and play hard. And they did this to
- 7:31Speaker 2: the Packers four years ago when they knocked them out
- 7:33Speaker 2: of the playoffs, when they're when the lines were out
- 7:35Speaker 2: of the playoffs, So I expect them to play hard now.
- 7:40Speaker 2: The question now will be how they view the risk
- 7:45Speaker 2: versus the reward. That it's very simple now. The other
- 7:48Speaker 2: thing is because the games are going on at the
- 7:50Speaker 2: same time, and I've seen this happen before, their quality
- 7:55Speaker 2: control people will watch the scoreboard and that if Eagles
- 7:58Speaker 2: surprise me and keep the starters in until they see
- 8:02Speaker 2: what's going on the other game, you can do that.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Some teams do that. So to answer your question, there
- 8:06Speaker 2: are a lot of scenarios on how to handle this.
- 8:10Speaker 2: I personally talking to coaches over the years, they generally
- 8:14Speaker 2: look at health first rather than seating, except when there's
- 8:18Speaker 2: a number one seed available to get a buy. There
- 8:21Speaker 2: is no second by remember since since they changed it
- 8:25Speaker 2: five years ago, So again they're gonna look at health.
- 8:29Speaker 2: That's the big discussion. We know Jurgens is not himself.
- 8:32Speaker 2: He is not having a good year to spit out
- 8:34Speaker 2: in a pro bowler. We know they atlanted Dickerson's not
- 8:39Speaker 2: having the cut except a year. We know why coming
- 8:41Speaker 2: back from multiple procedures during mailattas not have the great year.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Guys Lane Johnson with a lift front spraying guy. Yeah,
- 8:49Speaker 2: and this is one of the reasons why I'd be
- 8:51Speaker 2: surprised if they start everybody.
- 8:52Speaker 4: And isn't this just how Sirianni likes to operate Adam
- 8:55Speaker 4: in that they don't play their guys in the preseason.
- 8:58Speaker 4: It doesn't seem to affect them in the in the
- 9:00Speaker 4: season opener, they win every time with Sirianni. And do
- 9:04Speaker 4: you think Nick learned his lesson two years ago in
- 9:07Speaker 4: where aj played in Week eighteen?
- 9:10Speaker 2: Oh yeah, he.
- 9:11Speaker 4: Got hurt and then he was out for Tampa. Did
- 9:14Speaker 4: Sirihanna kind of learn his lesson that way?
- 9:16Speaker 2: Well, I got another one for you. I don't know
- 9:18Speaker 2: if you remember this. And this this really bothered me.
- 9:20Speaker 2: I crushed the Ford on our show. So I was
- 9:24Speaker 2: at that night practice at the Link in August and
- 9:27Speaker 2: he for some dumbery well I know why I did.
- 9:29Speaker 2: It was really dumb. He didn't like the way that
- 9:32Speaker 2: the offense was going late in the practice at the link,
- 9:36Speaker 2: so he put their starting offensive line in. That's when
- 9:38Speaker 2: Dickerson stuffed the meniscus injury. Thankfully he could he had
- 9:42Speaker 2: the trim and obviously if he had the the the repair,
- 9:45Speaker 2: he'd be out for several months. That was a dumb mistake.
- 9:48Speaker 2: You can't do that. You don't jeopardize when you don't
- 9:52Speaker 2: need to. And this is going to be a healthy
- 9:54Speaker 2: discussion with Jeffrey Lourie. I'm sure he'll be involved, Sirianni,
- 9:58Speaker 2: Howie Rosemond obviously, and the coordinators and the medical staff.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Two guys we need to mention that that they're they're
- 10:04Speaker 2: involved in this. They have to be involved in this.
- 10:06Speaker 2: So it's it's a really interesting discussion, uh what they're
- 10:10Speaker 2: gonna have here and they and with no buy next week,
- 10:14Speaker 2: you gotta go unhealthy and we know how beat up
- 10:17Speaker 2: this team is. Let's be honest about it.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Adam, I want to ask you about some of the
- 10:22Speaker 1: players that may have incentives to play in this final
- 10:25Speaker 1: week as well. How much of a factor is that
- 10:27Speaker 1: going to be in who they choose to sit and
- 10:30Speaker 1: who they choose not to sit heading into this game
- 10:32Speaker 1: against the Commanders, And how do teams typically approach that.
- 10:36Speaker 2: All right, so very only in my career. This is
- 10:38Speaker 2: when teams I'm not gonna I'm not gonna includ Jeffy
- 10:40Speaker 2: Lorin he's not cheap. But some owners, let's say a
- 10:44Speaker 2: guy was forty yards away from earning five hundred grand,
- 10:47Speaker 2: they'd make the player play and they would risk injury
- 10:51Speaker 2: because they were not gonna give them the five hundred grand.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Huh so, But the Eagles are typically not like that.
- 10:56Speaker 2: From in recent years, I'm told they've taken players when
- 11:01Speaker 2: it was pretty close. They just decided to get you
- 11:03Speaker 2: know what, why are we going to risk this, Let's
- 11:06Speaker 2: just take care of the player. What makes Jeffrey Lorie
- 11:09Speaker 2: arguably the NFL's best owner because he treats the players
- 11:12Speaker 2: great and treats the employees really well. So I would
- 11:17Speaker 2: expect them, if it's reasonable, to pay the players with
- 11:22Speaker 2: normal incentives. I just it's not the way. The Eagles
- 11:26Speaker 2: are generally very good talking agents over the years about it,
- 11:29Speaker 2: specifically Howie and obviously Jeffrey's got okay. They're generally very
- 11:35Speaker 2: good about it. So unless they're changing their mind, I'd
- 11:39Speaker 2: be surprised if they didn't take care of it now.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Most teams, by the way, are way better about this
- 11:44Speaker 2: than they were. Like I remember several agents getting very
- 11:48Speaker 2: upset at clubs when they wouldn't take care of their players.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Why are you making my guy playing with the game
- 11:53Speaker 2: doesn't mean anything? Now, Look, if it's five million bucks
- 11:56Speaker 2: three million dollars, that's a different story. But less than
- 11:59Speaker 2: a million, I mean, these owners can afford it.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Adam real quick. If the playoffs started today, Philly would
- 12:05Speaker 4: be hosting LA. Does it concern you at all that
- 12:08Speaker 4: McVeigh said last night that he plans to play his
- 12:11Speaker 4: guys in week eighteen and the Eagles would give their
- 12:14Speaker 4: guys a week off. I mean, and number two, do
- 12:16Speaker 4: you even buy that from McVeigh?
- 12:18Speaker 2: Well, all right, so McVeigh is the only coach that
- 12:21Speaker 2: I know of it doesn't play his starters in the preseason.
- 12:24Speaker 2: He never has, and he rests typically for when they
- 12:28Speaker 2: have when they're able to for playoff purposes. Now, he
- 12:31Speaker 2: didn't say that they're going to play the entire game though,
- 12:33Speaker 2: you know and say that, And that's why I coach
- 12:36Speaker 2: on him very close to He didn't a guy that
- 12:42Speaker 2: it's a playoff team that is not getting a buye
- 12:44Speaker 2: He said the discussion was going to be today and
- 12:48Speaker 2: his vote, if he had one, would be for the
- 12:49Speaker 2: rest that the players to rest. Now, this team, I
- 12:53Speaker 2: have not looked at whether they it even matters to them,
- 12:58Speaker 2: like see, this is the hard thing.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Guys.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Yes, they Eagles could get a second home game. But man,
- 13:06Speaker 2: you just said it perfectly. AJ Brown. You saw what
- 13:09Speaker 2: it looks like without AJ Brown, really bad. They can't
- 13:13Speaker 2: he look sminny is sminny and Goddard said eleven touchdowns,
- 13:17Speaker 2: but they're not winning without AJ Brown. I'm sorry, that's
- 13:20Speaker 2: not gonna happen.
- 13:22Speaker 1: We're talking with Adam Kaplan Football for powered by the
- 13:25Speaker 1: Inside the Birds Podcast. Adam, we just want to wish
- 13:28Speaker 1: you a happy new year. Thank you for all the
- 13:30Speaker 1: insight you give us here on the Sports Bash. You'll
- 13:33Speaker 1: be talking to Mike Gill in twenty twenty six again
- 13:36Speaker 1: instead of me, but we very much appreciate you jumping
- 13:40Speaker 1: on and uh talking some birds with us and providing
- 13:42Speaker 1: great insight and hope you have a great new year.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Same to you, guys. Dried This is a good segment
- 13:47Speaker 2: today and yeah, people drive safely for the new year.
- 13:52Speaker 2: You'll get there, see you, guys.
