- 0:00Speaker 1: As we got to the Ramos Law hotline car accident.
- 0:02Speaker 1: You need Ramos Law medical doctor and attorney ramas Law
- 0:04Speaker 1: dot com. Do we have Leggy with us?
- 0:06Speaker 2: Hello Jeff, Good morning, fellows, good more.
- 0:10Speaker 3: I would imagine Jeff, that the inside of that new
- 0:12Speaker 3: Broncos facility closely resembles the inside of your own house.
- 0:17Speaker 4: In my house, well, a wing of my house perhaps.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Yes, you know, yes, that's correct, Well, just one wing
- 0:25Speaker 3: of the household.
- 0:27Speaker 4: Vic would appreciate this. It's probably the same size as
- 0:30Speaker 4: the Mike Shanahan foyer back in the day.
- 0:35Speaker 2: When is the new facility officially open? I'm gonna be
- 0:38Speaker 2: out there today.
- 0:38Speaker 4: They are moving in everything like they're sending the entire
- 0:45Speaker 4: staff of the football team away after mini camp.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Huh.
- 0:49Speaker 4: And basically no one's allowed to be around while they
- 0:53Speaker 4: move everything out of their current building into the new one.
- 0:58Speaker 4: And that that will happen and in late June it's.
- 1:01Speaker 2: A mandated vacation.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Mandated well, it's only like a couple of days. It's
- 1:06Speaker 4: like stay out of here, so the movers can get
- 1:08Speaker 4: all the stuff from one place to the other. But
- 1:11Speaker 4: they you know, everybody is their entire staff, well, the
- 1:16Speaker 4: staff that works at that part. You know in that
- 1:22Speaker 4: building are packing up now, you know, to have stuff ready,
- 1:26Speaker 4: but it's going to be open for training camp for
- 1:28Speaker 4: the team and when they come back in July, it'll
- 1:32Speaker 4: be in the in the new building. So this is
- 1:35Speaker 4: it for like the locker room and all the other
- 1:38Speaker 4: stuff they do and their current digs.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Well, Jeff, you've been in this game for a long time,
- 1:45Speaker 1: and roster retention for a good football team is always
- 1:49Speaker 1: a great thing. But it's more than I think I've
- 1:53Speaker 1: ever seen to where you know, you're heading into this
- 1:56Speaker 1: offseason stuff and everybody's looking for offseason headlines.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Well what is it? What's the headline for you?
- 2:02Speaker 4: Well, I still think it's waddle and bon Nix's ankle.
- 2:05Speaker 4: Those are your two top stories if you're rank in
- 2:09Speaker 4: the evening news as it were. But yeah, this is
- 2:14Speaker 4: it's kind of funny. I'm old enough to have covered
- 2:17Speaker 4: the league before free agency and this is kind of
- 2:19Speaker 4: how it looked back then. I think this is like
- 2:22Speaker 4: a throwback roster build here. You know, I think it's
- 2:29Speaker 4: important to just in journalistically to say they've had roster attention.
- 2:36Speaker 4: They have not been cheap doing it. They have spent
- 2:39Speaker 4: top dollar. They have spent top dollar. They have spent
- 2:44Speaker 4: as much as anybody in the league. They just have
- 2:47Speaker 4: chosen to have spended on their own guy. I mean,
- 2:50Speaker 4: look what they did with Certain. There aren't a lot
- 2:53Speaker 4: of teams with the kind of resources and the willingness
- 3:00Speaker 4: to use those resources to keep their best guys happy
- 3:05Speaker 4: and moving forward. And it's a good plan as long
- 3:07Speaker 4: as you keep winning. I mean, there's they're betting basically
- 3:12Speaker 4: everything on the guys they have. And Jalen Waddell, so answer.
- 3:16Speaker 1: This one for me, Jeff. On the subject of Certain
- 3:19Speaker 1: getting the raise, I think it's a great look for
- 3:22Speaker 1: ownership to go out and be like, hey, I'm going
- 3:24Speaker 1: to take care of my guys, and that's that's great
- 3:26Speaker 1: for it reflecting from the locker room to.
- 3:29Speaker 2: The top brass.
- 3:31Speaker 1: But Certain is the best corner in the league who's
- 3:35Speaker 1: making seven million dollars less than the top paid corner
- 3:38Speaker 1: right now.
- 3:39Speaker 2: If Nick Benito has.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Another you know, fifteen to sixteen SAX season, he's making
- 3:44Speaker 1: twenty three and a half per year less than Will Anderson,
- 3:48Speaker 1: does he get one of these things too?
- 3:50Speaker 4: Well? You know, they understand when you do this, there
- 3:55Speaker 4: is precedence involved. Now every agent of every player on
- 4:00Speaker 4: your team can say, hey, what about me h, But
- 4:07Speaker 4: what you do when you're the team is who they
- 4:11Speaker 4: picked to be the first guy they did this with.
- 4:13Speaker 4: They picked Pats or Tenah been to the Pro Bowl
- 4:16Speaker 4: four times in five seasons, He's been the league's Defensive
- 4:21Speaker 4: Player of the Year. So if you're the team and
- 4:25Speaker 4: you you basically start a precedent with this, you can say, well,
- 4:30Speaker 4: when you reach Pats level, you know, come talk to us,
- 4:35Speaker 4: you know about about this. But they they know what
- 4:38Speaker 4: they were doing, they know how it will be taken,
- 4:41Speaker 4: you know, in the future. And I think honestly this
- 4:45Speaker 4: is them saying this is that they knew they were
- 4:49Speaker 4: gonna have to do something like this. When Certain agreed
- 4:51Speaker 4: to sign a true extension, you know, he didn't say,
- 4:56Speaker 4: rip up the last couple of years of my deal,
- 5:00Speaker 4: let's start the new clock right now. I mean, that
- 5:03Speaker 4: would have been more difficult cap wise for the Broncos
- 5:06Speaker 4: to do. He did a true extension. Nick Bonito did
- 5:10Speaker 4: a true extension. Zach Allen did a true extension. They
- 5:15Speaker 4: they've done that for the team, and I think the
- 5:18Speaker 4: team has made it clear because of that they'll be
- 5:21Speaker 4: ready to do these things because it doesn't take long
- 5:25Speaker 4: for the the contracts at the top tier, you know,
- 5:29Speaker 4: to move back in line. As as other guys signed.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Do they have money to work with in case they
- 5:35Speaker 2: wanted to sign somebody.
- 5:36Speaker 4: This they do, They do, They've got some Their draft
- 5:42Speaker 4: pool is very small, you know, it won't take much
- 5:45Speaker 4: of their salary cap. You know, when you don't have
- 5:47Speaker 4: a number one and your two or a two, your
- 5:52Speaker 4: draft pool is going to be very small against the cap.
- 5:55Speaker 4: You know. Their issue is they do have a lot
- 5:58Speaker 4: of high end contract on the roster and guys on
- 6:03Speaker 4: ir count against the cap. So that's always the big
- 6:07Speaker 4: buffer teams want to have when they head into the
- 6:10Speaker 4: in the training camp is to be able to take
- 6:14Speaker 4: those on without having to make too many roster moves
- 6:17Speaker 4: to to make that count. And right now only the
- 6:20Speaker 4: top fifty one count, you know, fifty three do count
- 6:24Speaker 4: until the final cutdown, so they're in good shape. They've
- 6:28Speaker 4: got room. They could sign. They could do a JK.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Dobbins signing like they did last year in June. You know,
- 6:34Speaker 4: if they want it.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Let me get in the mind of Jeff Legwell here,
- 6:38Speaker 2: which is not easy.
- 6:39Speaker 4: Let me start.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Let me start with my perimeter first, and then I'll
- 6:42Speaker 3: work my way from there.
- 6:43Speaker 4: Yeah, there's a lot of room to work in there.
- 6:45Speaker 4: This yeh, a lot happening.
- 6:47Speaker 3: You said, you said, the two big stories are waddle
- 6:49Speaker 3: and Bonick's ankle. Now, as a journalist and a guy
- 6:53Speaker 3: who does a really good job at what you do.
- 6:56Speaker 3: If I'm in the Broncos and I'm like, here comes
- 6:58Speaker 3: leg Wald and all these knuckleheads again, they're.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Gonna ask me about the ankle. I get sick of
- 7:03Speaker 2: it quickly.
- 7:04Speaker 3: But you have to ask, and you have to pursue
- 7:07Speaker 3: that storyline because it's really really big, and part of
- 7:10Speaker 3: me is Mo's I'm scared of this ankle now, Jeff,
- 7:15Speaker 3: I'm nervous about it because it's been months and months
- 7:17Speaker 3: and months. So how do you walk that line as
- 7:19Speaker 3: we proceed forward here starting with mini camp.
- 7:23Speaker 4: Yeah, there's only no line of walk mode. They know
- 7:25Speaker 4: it's coming. He won't be happy about it. Didn't like
- 7:28Speaker 4: talking about injuries, and you know, June, you know it
- 7:32Speaker 4: didn't like talking about injuries in February. It didn't like
- 7:35Speaker 4: talking about injuries in October. So it's this isn't you
- 7:38Speaker 4: know it won't be a surprise. You know, sometimes Sean
- 7:44Speaker 4: likes to take the preemptive approach, which you know, just basically, Hey,
- 7:47Speaker 4: I know you guys are gonna ask, here's the update,
- 7:52Speaker 4: you know, and I've said this to the team. You know.
- 7:55Speaker 4: The reason people have to ask now is because they
- 7:57Speaker 4: didn't exactly give the update. Uh, you know during the draft,
- 8:03Speaker 4: you know about the second procedure and all those things,
- 8:06Speaker 4: and uh, you know, I just think it's you know,
- 8:09Speaker 4: look at any time, it's the quarterback and you're an
- 8:12Speaker 4: NFL team and he's your starter. Yeah, you're you're gonna
- 8:16Speaker 4: be answering questions about your quarterback. And I don't I
- 8:19Speaker 4: don't care who it is. I mean, it's but I
- 8:22Speaker 4: look at how the Packers, you know, essentially handled questions
- 8:26Speaker 4: about Micah Parsons, and you know, not every team is
- 8:30Speaker 4: treats those things the same, and and the Broncos don't
- 8:35Speaker 4: like talking about injuries, so they try not to.
- 8:38Speaker 2: But will he be on premises today, Jeff, you'll be
- 8:41Speaker 2: at the Yeah, I.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Don't know if we'll see him, you know what, I'm
- 8:45Speaker 4: headed that way as soon as we're done, basically, but
- 8:49Speaker 4: you know, I don't know if we'll see him. But
- 8:51Speaker 4: he's been out there every day, like you know, a
- 8:54Speaker 4: lot of the players have been there every day. You know.
- 8:56Speaker 4: He's when you're on a rehab schedule, you don't get
- 8:59Speaker 4: to go far. His summer is not going to be fun,
- 9:03Speaker 4: you know. It's basically when everyone else leaves for that month,
- 9:09Speaker 4: bo Nicks gets the hanger and anyone else rehabbing will
- 9:13Speaker 4: get to stay around Denver and we'll be there every day.
- 9:17Speaker 4: So he's been rehabbing. All the reports I get are
- 9:20Speaker 4: you know, everything's okay, But I'm not sure they'll give
- 9:25Speaker 4: us a look at him. You know, whatever he's doing,
- 9:28Speaker 4: they do it early, like all the rehabbing players, and
- 9:32Speaker 4: you know, they may just keep him in the building
- 9:34Speaker 4: and he watches practice from upstairs, you know, in one
- 9:38Speaker 4: of the offices.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Jeff Leakewold All conversations with the leg You're brought to
- 9:42Speaker 1: you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers IBW Local
- 9:46Speaker 1: sixty eight. Start with the job and with a career.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Russell Wilson has made the transition from player to now
- 9:53Speaker 1: CBS Sports analyst. You are a Hall of Fame voter.
- 9:57Speaker 1: If Russell Wilson's career ended in twenty twenty one as
- 10:01Speaker 1: opposed to twenty twenty five.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Would the case be easier.
- 10:04Speaker 4: Probably would be. But you know that's always that's always
- 10:08Speaker 4: the case, even for coaches. You know, coaches who don't
- 10:12Speaker 4: have that great finishing kick can have that too. You know.
- 10:18Speaker 4: I tend to believe, as I've gone through this over
- 10:22Speaker 4: the years, that sort of once you've crossed that Hall
- 10:26Speaker 4: of Fame line, you don't really regress. I mean I don't.
- 10:31Speaker 4: I don't think there's a penalty box. You know, you
- 10:34Speaker 4: did achieve those things in your career to whatever point
- 10:39Speaker 4: it was, and whatever happens after that point, you know,
- 10:42Speaker 4: I don't think then. I think he's got one of
- 10:47Speaker 4: those right on the edge cases. You know, it's it's
- 10:52Speaker 4: quarterbacks now. I We'll say quarterbacks who've played on Super
- 10:56Speaker 4: Bowl winners have an easier time than any other position
- 11:01Speaker 4: you're voting about, or even even coaches. So he does
- 11:06Speaker 4: have that. He's got double digit Pro bowls. I mean,
- 11:09Speaker 4: the arguments would be, uh, you know, he's got he's
- 11:14Speaker 4: got good enough arguments to be in the room for sure.
- 11:17Speaker 4: Will he get the votes, It's it's hard to say
- 11:20Speaker 4: now in the current climate it's harder than ever to
- 11:24Speaker 4: get into the Hall of Fame, and I think players
- 11:27Speaker 4: like Wilson will have the toughest time because I mean,
- 11:31Speaker 4: look at this year's class. You know, we're looking at
- 11:34Speaker 4: classes of four four guys maybe moving forward, and that's
- 11:39Speaker 4: going to make it tough on everybody.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Let's come to you.
- 11:44Speaker 4: You know, I was trying to think about that. Uh,
- 11:47Speaker 4: you know, the numbers are are really good. And you know, again,
- 11:52Speaker 4: he's got the Super Bowl win, he's got multiple appearances,
- 11:55Speaker 4: he's got double digit Pro Bowls. You know, it's it's uh,
- 12:01Speaker 4: I'm not sure. You know, I think he's you know,
- 12:03Speaker 4: his his winning is much better than Eli's. His tds,
- 12:08Speaker 4: the interceptions better than Eli's. So but Eli's got the
- 12:15Speaker 4: two wins over two of the best teams of the
- 12:17Speaker 4: modern era, so in the Super Bowl. So you know,
- 12:21Speaker 4: everybody's got a little something in their favor. I think
- 12:26Speaker 4: his body of work, regular season, postseason, you know, Wilson's
- 12:32Speaker 4: body of work would probably be better. Uh in a
- 12:35Speaker 4: in a Hall of Fame voting setting, I.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Go by my groin field Wow, Okay, and my groin
- 12:42Speaker 3: says he's he's not a Hall of Famer that's what
- 12:45Speaker 3: I just I just go by my initial gut reaction.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Jeffen he didn't feel like one to me, and that's
- 12:52Speaker 3: no offense because it's hard to win a damn Super Bowl.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Is they take everybody to the Pro Bowls. The guys
- 13:00Speaker 2: is Elion Hall of Famer.
- 13:01Speaker 3: I don't feel like I mean, he's a two time
- 13:03Speaker 3: Super Bowl champion, but I don't feel like his career
- 13:05Speaker 3: was great. I think he was a great I don't
- 13:07Speaker 3: think he was a great quarterback. I'm sorry, I don't
- 13:09Speaker 3: think he was a great quarterback.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Eli does a something though, that i'd rather have over
- 13:13Speaker 2: Hall of Fame.
- 13:14Speaker 3: It's got two Super Bowl rings, No, but membership at Augusta.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Oh that too.
- 13:20Speaker 3: You know what, I probably would go with Eli. I
- 13:23Speaker 3: would because he's so important. He was important at the game.
- 13:26Speaker 2: I mean, it goes beyond justin Russell Wilson's out of portrait.
- 13:29Speaker 2: It goes beyond.
- 13:33Speaker 3: It goes down just just your your row in any
- 13:36Speaker 3: given season and finding seven records.
- 13:39Speaker 2: It goes beyond that. It's impact on the game. Leg
- 13:42Speaker 2: This is why I shut up. Yeah, I'm just gonna
- 13:44Speaker 2: shut up. This is why Moser can't be in the room.
- 13:46Speaker 1: He just said literally ninety seconds ago, Eli's not a
- 13:49Speaker 1: Hall of Famer, and then he goes, you know what,
- 13:50Speaker 1: never mind, I think he is.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he is. I think I think he is.
- 13:55Speaker 2: I think he is.
- 13:55Speaker 4: That type of stuff does happen in the room.
- 13:58Speaker 2: The room.
- 14:06Speaker 4: When when you're arguing quarterbacks, Uh, all Pro is a
- 14:12Speaker 4: is a heavy, heavy part when you start trying to
- 14:15Speaker 4: break ties. And that's where the people who've you know,
- 14:21Speaker 4: swung away at Eli. That's where he gets dinged a lot.
- 14:26Speaker 4: Is because at no point in his career, you know,
- 14:31Speaker 4: was he sort of the All Pro guy for multiple years?
- 14:36Speaker 4: And you know that's three quarterbacks are on the All
- 14:39Speaker 4: Pro team. Uh So if you're not among the top
- 14:44Speaker 4: three quarterbacks for multiple years during your career, that's a
- 14:50Speaker 4: tough argument for for the Hall of Fame sometimes, and
- 14:53Speaker 4: I think that's why you're seeing what you're seeing with him.
- 14:56Speaker 4: And again, I can't emphasize to people enough since the
- 15:00Speaker 4: changes in the voting, it is more difficult now to
- 15:05Speaker 4: get into the Hall of Fame than it's ever been
- 15:07Speaker 4: in my almost thirty years on the committee.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Okay, just thirty seconds. Is Stafford a for sure guy?
- 15:14Speaker 4: I think he will have a much easier argument in
- 15:17Speaker 4: the room. If I'm still in the room and it
- 15:19Speaker 4: comes up, I could see him having a much easier
- 15:23Speaker 4: argument because the body of work. Sure, and you know,
- 15:29Speaker 4: I will say often the physical element comes into Hall
- 15:33Speaker 4: of Fame arguments because everything comes into Hall of fame.
- 15:37Speaker 4: And of all the people I've seen throwing a football
- 15:40Speaker 4: in my life, he's in the top tier of pure throwers.
- 15:45Speaker 4: If that matters at all to people, and it does
- 15:49Speaker 4: matter to some.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Jeff Leaglam ESPN dot Commy you're the best, lady. Thank you.
- 15:53Speaker 4: Jeff Ellis thick there
