- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: It's a special day for us here, It's Almost Famous podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Ashley is flying all around the world right now because
- 0:13Speaker 2: she was out in Los Angeles doing an event, and
- 0:16Speaker 2: so I have two very special guests with me today
- 0:18Speaker 2: who are going to help me break down the Golden Bachelor,
- 0:20Speaker 2: My wife Jessica and the grandma Nana.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Hello everybody, She's not a grandma, she's a nana.
- 0:29Speaker 2: She's a Nana. Hello, Nana.
- 0:32Speaker 4: Hi.
- 0:34Speaker 2: As we've done every week here, it's been really fun.
- 0:37Speaker 2: As we've watched the Golden Bachelor. We've had people come
- 0:40Speaker 2: on special guests that are within the age range of
- 0:43Speaker 2: the people on the show, giving us their opinion on
- 0:45Speaker 2: what they're watching, how they're feeling, how they're enjoying the
- 0:48Speaker 2: Golden Bachelor. And then obviously we've got Jessica here who
- 0:52Speaker 2: likes to jump in now and again a few times.
- 0:54Speaker 2: And you know, Han, I was telling everybody that you
- 0:59Speaker 2: really have no watched a full season of The Bachelor, right.
- 1:05Speaker 3: No, I've never watched the full original Bachelor. This is
- 1:09Speaker 3: my first go round the Golden.
- 1:11Speaker 2: One, and you're loving it. You're loving it. We're watching it,
- 1:14Speaker 2: you're crying, you're feeling all the feels like you're into it.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Yes, I just I really love Gary. I think he's
- 1:22Speaker 3: such a sweet man. I hope that he's being protected
- 1:26Speaker 3: and cared for. I've really been loving watching his journey.
- 1:33Speaker 2: And then, Nana, you've seen every episode of The Golden
- 1:35Speaker 2: Bachelor as well? Right, yes, I have. And just so
- 1:40Speaker 2: everybody has an idea here as they're about to listen
- 1:43Speaker 2: to us break down this episode. Okay, what is your
- 1:46Speaker 2: general thoughts on The Golden Bachelor so far?
- 1:51Speaker 5: My general thoughts is that I love it. It's it's real.
- 1:58Speaker 5: It feels a lot more real to me. Yeah, and
- 2:04Speaker 5: I like that, And I think I think they're more real.
- 2:09Speaker 5: Their emotions come out there and it feels genuine. And
- 2:15Speaker 5: I didn't always feel that way about The Bachelor.
- 2:20Speaker 2: I would agree, and I think that's a general consensus.
- 2:22Speaker 2: I think that's why eleven million people are viewing this show.
- 2:26Speaker 2: You know, I've been able to be around some people
- 2:29Speaker 2: who are viewing the show and there's an emotion. In fact, Nan,
- 2:33Speaker 2: I want to tell you this story. A few weeks ago,
- 2:36Speaker 2: I was able to be a part of a watch
- 2:37Speaker 2: party for the show, and I had a lady come
- 2:39Speaker 2: up to me and she was in tears and she said,
- 2:43Speaker 2: you know, I lost my husband a few years ago
- 2:45Speaker 2: and this is just get helping me like relate with that,
- 2:48Speaker 2: like second chance of love or wanting companionship, or putting
- 2:51Speaker 2: yourself out there or taking these risks. And I was like,
- 2:56Speaker 2: that's what this show used to be. Maybe when The
- 2:58Speaker 2: Bachelor was really good back in the day, that was
- 3:00Speaker 2: authentic and there's a genuineness, and now I think The
- 3:03Speaker 2: Golden Bachelor's kind of bringing that back, that vibe of
- 3:07Speaker 2: people being real, trying something new, attempting to find love,
- 3:11Speaker 2: but if anything else, they're having a good time doing it.
- 3:14Speaker 2: And so I agree with you. I think this show
- 3:17Speaker 2: is great. Well, we're going to dive into this episode.
- 3:21Speaker 2: It kicks offwards. We're what four four episodes in The
- 3:26Speaker 2: Golden Bachelor. Gary has kind of started off this episode.
- 3:31Speaker 2: We're going to see more emotion out of Gary as
- 3:34Speaker 2: the episodes progress. In this episode the sneak peek, he
- 3:40Speaker 2: we see Gary saying he hasn't felt this way since
- 3:43Speaker 2: meeting his wife forty years ago, and so Gary's getting
- 3:46Speaker 2: in it. He's feeling the feels he's connecting with multiple women.
- 3:51Speaker 2: And then the first scene of the episode is where
- 3:53Speaker 2: we get a sneak peak at one of our favorite
- 3:56Speaker 2: Bachelor Nation alum Bachelor at number one, Tristas Sutter is
- 4:01Speaker 2: on the show, which I think is personally very cool
- 4:04Speaker 2: because I know a lot of people in that room
- 4:07Speaker 2: probably watched Trista during her journey to find love on
- 4:11Speaker 2: the Bachelorette. So, Nana, did you watch episode or a
- 4:15Speaker 2: season one of The Bachelorette? Do you remember Trista?
- 4:19Speaker 5: No? Absolutely, I don't.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Okay, well that's fine, I do. I never watched her season. However,
- 4:26Speaker 2: she does live out here in Colorado as well. She
- 4:30Speaker 2: is an incredible human. I was happy to see her
- 4:32Speaker 2: on the show. And they're getting ready to play pickleball,
- 4:34Speaker 2: so it's a group date here. Pickleball is the sport
- 4:38Speaker 2: of choice. Gary's a big pickleball player back home. He
- 4:41Speaker 2: prefers pickleball over every other hobby he has. Some of
- 4:46Speaker 2: these women look like they've played pickleball once or twice.
- 4:48Speaker 2: We actually have somebody that instructs pickleball. This group date
- 4:53Speaker 2: is set up where they're competing against each other to
- 4:56Speaker 2: see who the pickleball champion may be now fun date.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Not a lot goes on here. We don't even see
- 5:04Speaker 2: a ton really other than them hitting the ball back
- 5:06Speaker 2: and forth. But there is something I wanted to bring
- 5:09Speaker 2: up to the two of you. One of our favorites
- 5:12Speaker 2: here the Almost Famous podcast, Sondra. Sondra at this pickleball
- 5:17Speaker 2: date admits to Gary that she is here on the
- 5:22Speaker 2: Golden Bachelor and as a result, she's missing her daughter's wedding.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Love to hear your guys' reaction to that. What did
- 5:28Speaker 2: you think? It made me squirm a little bit. To
- 5:32Speaker 2: be honest, it felt very awkward to me. But it
- 5:35Speaker 2: might not feel awkward everybody, So I'd love to hear
- 5:37Speaker 2: your thoughts. Jess. Let's start with you.
- 5:41Speaker 4: Personally.
- 5:42Speaker 3: I think that if my mom said that she was
- 5:46Speaker 3: going on The Bachelor and it would interfere with my wedding,
- 5:49Speaker 3: I would really sit down and talk with her about it.
- 5:53Speaker 3: I'm sure that Sandra Sandra did with her daughter as well.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Just I bet that they had a lot of conversations
- 5:59Speaker 3: and they got on the same page. I know I
- 6:02Speaker 3: had a friend who went pretty far in the Bachelor
- 6:05Speaker 3: process and she decided not to go through with it
- 6:07Speaker 3: because she had a lot of friends.
- 6:08Speaker 4: Weddings that year.
- 6:09Speaker 3: So I think that it just kind of depends on
- 6:11Speaker 3: the conversations that you have with people. I would have
- 6:15Speaker 3: a hard time with it, but I just have to
- 6:20Speaker 3: assume that they had a lot of really, really good
- 6:22Speaker 3: conversations beforehand. I don't know that it made me scrim too,
- 6:27Speaker 3: just a little.
- 6:28Speaker 4: What do you think, Nana, Well, I think initially I
- 6:32Speaker 4: felt like, you know what you said, Jessica, that oh,
- 6:36Speaker 4: that's a little strange having had daughters that have gotten married.
- 6:41Speaker 5: But when you get into the cat, I mean, it's
- 6:45Speaker 5: it's her life, and obviously she's got a wonderful relationship
- 6:52Speaker 5: as far as I'm concerned with her daughter to be
- 6:55Speaker 5: able to do that, so I it was great, and
- 7:03Speaker 5: I admire her.
- 7:04Speaker 3: For she admire Sandra or her daughter more.
- 7:08Speaker 5: I admire Sandra for being able to say to her daughter,
- 7:13Speaker 5: this is really what I want to do. And I
- 7:16Speaker 5: admire her daughter if it's saying, mom, if that's what
- 7:20Speaker 5: you want. God knows her mother is old enough to
- 7:23Speaker 5: know what she wants at this point in her life.
- 7:27Speaker 5: So I think for me it was fine.
- 7:30Speaker 2: You know, I think there is the element there too,
- 7:32Speaker 2: where a lot of the Like a general theme throughout
- 7:35Speaker 2: the Golden Bachelor has been that not only Gary, but
- 7:38Speaker 2: the women that came on The Golden Bachelor are making
- 7:42Speaker 2: this decision to do something for themselves, Like they're taking
- 7:45Speaker 2: that step out there to do something new, exciting, to
- 7:48Speaker 2: shake life up a bit. And I'm I admire that
- 7:52Speaker 2: because I don't think probably a lot of these these
- 7:54Speaker 2: women especially have made that decision many times here in
- 7:58Speaker 2: the past where they've said, you know what, I want
- 8:00Speaker 2: to do this. I'm going to do this. I know
- 8:02Speaker 2: that things might get pushed aside, and I know some
- 8:05Speaker 2: of my responsibilities and obligations in life might have to
- 8:09Speaker 2: take a back seat, but I want to give this
- 8:12Speaker 2: a shot because I think it's worth it, and I
- 8:14Speaker 2: do think that's something admirable and I think it's healthy
- 8:19Speaker 2: in a lot of ways, because I'm hoping every single
- 8:21Speaker 2: woman who comes on this show leaves going I'm glad
- 8:24Speaker 2: I did it, Like if anything, I'd ended up with Gary,
- 8:26Speaker 2: but I'm just glad I did it because it made
- 8:28Speaker 2: me feel something new again. You know, we kind of
- 8:35Speaker 2: flash through then this group dating the cocktail party. We
- 8:39Speaker 2: see a really great moment with Ellen, and Ellen kind
- 8:43Speaker 2: of has a high or at least a very noticeable
- 8:46Speaker 2: role in this episode. Ellen starts telling Gary obviously later
- 8:50Speaker 2: on in the episode, that she is starting to fall
- 8:52Speaker 2: in love with him. She kind of has that twinkle
- 8:54Speaker 2: in her eye. I believe it when she says it.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Sometimes on this show, when you watch maybe the Bachelor
- 8:59Speaker 2: at a Bachelor, somebody says this and you're like, I
- 9:01Speaker 2: don't know if you really mean that. I think when
- 9:04Speaker 2: these women say it, I think they mean it because
- 9:06Speaker 2: they know what that feels like. Uh, it's a it's
- 9:10Speaker 2: a beautiful moment between the two of them. But this
- 9:12Speaker 2: is where I want to pause for all of us
- 9:14Speaker 2: here and talk about Gary for a second. I'd love
- 9:17Speaker 2: to get you know, Jess had already mentioned that she
- 9:19Speaker 2: loves Gary. She really thinks he's a good dude. She's
- 9:22Speaker 2: hoping somebody's protecting him and looking out for him on
- 9:24Speaker 2: this show. Nana, what is your thoughts about Gary? You know,
- 9:30Speaker 2: as you watch The Golden Bachelor.
- 9:32Speaker 5: Well, initially, what the first episode, I was kind of
- 9:38Speaker 5: turned off because I didn't like the whole emotional start
- 9:45Speaker 5: with crying, and you know, I felt like that you
- 9:49Speaker 5: know that that was kind of you know, that made
- 9:53Speaker 5: women feel sorry.
- 9:54Speaker 2: For him interesting.
- 9:56Speaker 5: And that's really not I would rather have seen something like,
- 10:01Speaker 5: you know, I had a wonderful marriage. I love my
- 10:05Speaker 5: wife and that's why I'm here. But that's me personally.
- 10:09Speaker 5: That was the first episode after that, and as I
- 10:13Speaker 5: as I got to try and understand him a little
- 10:16Speaker 5: bit more, he can't comes across as much more genuine,
- 10:22Speaker 5: and he has life experiences in back of him which
- 10:27Speaker 5: make all the difference in the world as far as
- 10:29Speaker 5: I'm concerned. So at this point I like him and
- 10:34Speaker 5: I think I think he's genuine. I felt really moved
- 10:39Speaker 5: by that episode last night with Ellen. I thought that
- 10:44Speaker 5: was beautiful. I thought that they were both very sincere.
- 10:50Speaker 2: I do think you're you're hitting on something there, Nana.
- 10:53Speaker 2: That's interesting because I have felt and maybe I've never
- 10:57Speaker 2: even thought about it until you just said it. You know,
- 11:00Speaker 2: we did start out with a lot of emotion, and
- 11:03Speaker 2: every time Gary talked about his late wife, there were
- 11:06Speaker 2: tears and he couldn't get the words out and he
- 11:10Speaker 2: couldn't talk about it with any of the women. And
- 11:12Speaker 2: we did see a lot of emotion initially from him.
- 11:14Speaker 2: But I do feel like there was a pivot at
- 11:16Speaker 2: some point during these last four episodes where he's able
- 11:20Speaker 2: to speak about his late wife with love and respect
- 11:23Speaker 2: and admiration, but speak about it now with the confidence
- 11:27Speaker 2: of what could be in the future as well. And
- 11:30Speaker 2: so at some point I do think there was a
- 11:33Speaker 2: turning point for him that maybe we don't even know
- 11:35Speaker 2: when it happened. I would like to kind of point
- 11:38Speaker 2: back maybe to when he first kind of started talking
- 11:41Speaker 2: to Teresa and the diner and she shared her story
- 11:44Speaker 2: as well, that something happened inside of him that made
- 11:48Speaker 2: him feel like I can now continue on still be emotional,
- 11:54Speaker 2: but not be unable to speak about this in a
- 11:58Speaker 2: way that's positive and uplifting. And so we've seen that
- 12:02Speaker 2: more recently. We haven't seen the tears from Gary outside
- 12:05Speaker 2: of when he has to say goodbye to somebody. We
- 12:07Speaker 2: haven't necessarily seen the tears when Gary shares his story.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I think that's really great is when you get to
- 12:12Speaker 2: a place of share that you can share your story
- 12:15Speaker 2: with confidence, and I think we're seeing that at a
- 12:17Speaker 2: Gary now.
- 12:19Speaker 5: It feels a lot more genuine when he's saying goodbye
- 12:22Speaker 5: to somebody to show the tears, I think that's great.
- 12:27Speaker 5: You know, it means he's made an attachment and he
- 12:30Speaker 5: feels the loss, So that's fine. I think it's more appropriate.
- 12:46Speaker 2: So you're saying, as the seasons progressed, you have become
- 12:51Speaker 2: more of a fan of Gary, and that you are,
- 12:55Speaker 2: and would you say, you're in a place whereas you
- 12:58Speaker 2: watch this show, you are hoping that he finds what
- 13:02Speaker 2: he's looking for in the end, that they're rooting for Gary.
- 13:06Speaker 5: Yes, and I think he will know when he finds it. Yeah,
- 13:12Speaker 5: I am.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I think he'll know too. There's a
- 13:17Speaker 2: depth in, like you said, the life experience that does
- 13:20Speaker 2: make me feel like Gary will know when he finds
- 13:23Speaker 2: his one. Well, we really can't break down The Golden
- 13:29Speaker 2: Bachelor at its current state without talking about the little drama.
- 13:34Speaker 2: I'm gonna call it little because it is very minor
- 13:36Speaker 2: compared to what we usually see when we watch The
- 13:38Speaker 2: Bachelor Bachelorette. The little drama that's happening between Kathy and Teresa.
- 13:45Speaker 2: You know, Jess and I watched the episode last night.
- 13:48Speaker 2: We kind of spoke about where this was possibly coming from. Nana.
- 13:54Speaker 2: You know, as we mentioned, you have friends in this
- 13:58Speaker 2: age group. You understand this age group. So as you
- 14:02Speaker 2: watch this argument being played out where Kathy's upset that
- 14:07Speaker 2: Teresa continues to speak about her connection with Gary, and
- 14:11Speaker 2: Teresa's now confused that Kathy's upset because Teresa felt like
- 14:14Speaker 2: all of them were doing it. Is this common in
- 14:18Speaker 2: this age group? Are you watching this feeling like this is? Uh,
- 14:21Speaker 2: this is odd to you kind of how do you
- 14:24Speaker 2: feel about this whole whole situation?
- 14:28Speaker 5: Don't? I don't think it's common. I think the the
- 14:33Speaker 5: older you get, the more you realize what's really important.
- 14:39Speaker 5: And I don't you know, she obviously did not feel
- 14:47Speaker 5: comfortable with herself. See that's how you know I would
- 14:51Speaker 5: interpret it. She's just not comfortable with herself, so she
- 14:56Speaker 5: she takes it out on somebody else.
- 14:58Speaker 2: But you're saying, Kathy, I think Kathy's not comfortab Okay, yeah, okay.
- 15:04Speaker 5: But I think that Teresa was very genuine. I think,
- 15:09Speaker 5: you know, she really didn't mean it viciously, you know,
- 15:13Speaker 5: I think she she acted the way the way any
- 15:18Speaker 5: of us would leaf. So I you know, it's too bad.
- 15:22Speaker 5: It's too bad that Kathy didn't feel more comfortable with
- 15:26Speaker 5: herself to be able to deal with whatever was going on,
- 15:29Speaker 5: but she didn't. So I don't think it's common.
- 15:33Speaker 2: I don't think it's common. This isn't like this, This behavior,
- 15:37Speaker 2: I guess, is not something that when you're around your friends, this,
- 15:42Speaker 2: this kind of i'll call it, like cattiness. This, this
- 15:44Speaker 2: kind of being jealous and upset, you don't feel like
- 15:46Speaker 2: that happens as much. And as you said, as you
- 15:49Speaker 2: get older, you begin to know what's important more right,
- 15:53Speaker 2: and maybe with a little confidence, she wouldn't have reacted
- 15:56Speaker 2: the way she did. And that's what Jessica and I
- 15:58Speaker 2: talked about last night, was you know, Teresa ibviously has
- 16:00Speaker 2: this great connection with Gary. Their relationship is going in
- 16:04Speaker 2: a terrific direction. It feels like there's a lot of
- 16:08Speaker 2: potential for the two of them together, and Kathy maybe
- 16:11Speaker 2: doesn't feel that, and so as a result, she's lashing out,
- 16:14Speaker 2: trying to come out with excuses. It's interesting, jess I
- 16:18Speaker 2: want to hear your opinion on this. In a lot
- 16:21Speaker 2: of ways, when we watch The Bachelor, the same stuff happens,
- 16:25Speaker 2: and yes, maybe it's a little more overblown, and yes
- 16:28Speaker 2: there's maybe it's a little harshery at times. There's maybe
- 16:30Speaker 2: some screaming and yelling like that kind of stuff can
- 16:32Speaker 2: go on, but at the foundation of it, it's the
- 16:35Speaker 2: same thing. Right, somebody's feeling a lack of confidence, they're
- 16:39Speaker 2: feeling maybe like they might be going home. They kind
- 16:42Speaker 2: of put a target on the back of the person
- 16:44Speaker 2: that is obviously has a connection with the lead, and
- 16:48Speaker 2: it just never ends well either way. Where do you
- 16:51Speaker 2: think this come from? Comes from? As we kind of
- 16:53Speaker 2: now talk about like your friend group or people that
- 16:56Speaker 2: you know that have these same kind of conversations. Why
- 16:58Speaker 2: do you think this exists?
- 17:00Speaker 3: Yes, I think I mean Nana's spot on, I think
- 17:04Speaker 3: it just comes from a little bit of insecurity. Like
- 17:07Speaker 3: I even last night when we were watching Kathy kept
- 17:09Speaker 3: saying that a lot of other women had stronger connections
- 17:12Speaker 3: than she did, So she's recognizing that and she's probably
- 17:16Speaker 3: feeling super insecure. And when I feel like when guys
- 17:20Speaker 3: feel insecure, a lot of times they do, like I mean,
- 17:23Speaker 3: it's stereotypical, but they'll do something physical to like prove
- 17:27Speaker 3: that they are better than whomever. They'll like ask to
- 17:30Speaker 3: compete in something they know they'll win in. And for women,
- 17:33Speaker 3: we kind of tear down more with words where we're like, well,
- 17:37Speaker 3: you should just zip it, which, honestly, the fact that
- 17:40Speaker 3: that got such like a pistol reaction from Gary when
- 17:44Speaker 3: Teresa said that she told her to zip it, Like, oh,
- 17:47Speaker 3: I mean, my heart sore because zip it is like
- 17:51Speaker 3: the kindest way to tell someone to be quiet and Gary,
- 17:56Speaker 3: but Gary got so upset by it, and I'm like, wow,
- 17:59Speaker 3: I feel like watching these people that have more life
- 18:02Speaker 3: experience go through and go through something like this, we
- 18:06Speaker 3: realize that as you get older, you are recognizing that
- 18:10Speaker 3: treating everyone with the utmost respect is one of the
- 18:13Speaker 3: most important things in life. And I think that that's
- 18:17Speaker 3: why this, like, as you said, like this little piece
- 18:19Speaker 3: of drama exploded, because we're seeing these people not respect
- 18:23Speaker 3: others and that's a really really big deal to this
- 18:27Speaker 3: specific group. And I think that's really cool to see,
- 18:31Speaker 3: especially as someone who's younger and who hears a lot
- 18:34Speaker 3: of drama that's very insignificant but gets a stronger reaction.
- 18:40Speaker 5: Yeah. I just I feel like I'm learning a.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Lot watching these people go through a very strange experience
- 18:47Speaker 3: and the way that they're dealing with other people, Like
- 18:50Speaker 3: the women in this house seem to really love each
- 18:52Speaker 3: other and don't want they want what's best.
- 18:55Speaker 4: For one another.
- 18:56Speaker 3: And I know Nana and I have talked a lot
- 18:58Speaker 3: about this, or we've talked about it before, where Nana said,
- 19:01Speaker 3: these women know what they want, and so this competition
- 19:05Speaker 3: thing with.
- 19:05Speaker 4: One another, I feel that we're not seeing as much.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Explain that a little further. What do you mean by
- 19:11Speaker 2: that they know what they want and so we don't
- 19:13Speaker 2: see the competition.
- 19:16Speaker 5: Nana is the one that brought it up.
- 19:17Speaker 3: So, Nana, when you say that these women know what
- 19:21Speaker 3: they want, is that just because they loved before. A
- 19:25Speaker 3: lot of them have had spouses, and so do you
- 19:29Speaker 3: think that they're not as competitive with one another.
- 19:33Speaker 5: I think that a big part of it is because
- 19:36Speaker 5: they have loved before, they have experienced all kinds of emotions,
- 19:42Speaker 5: and each one they're own, separate, different So yeah, I
- 19:48Speaker 5: think that they could be very affectionate towards Jerry and
- 19:53Speaker 5: think that he's a great friend and all. But they
- 19:57Speaker 5: know in their heart whether or not this is this
- 20:01Speaker 5: is the one. I don't think, you know. I think
- 20:05Speaker 5: that they just know and so it doesn't bother them
- 20:10Speaker 5: as much. They're happy for the other people because in
- 20:14Speaker 5: their heart they may be this may not be so
- 20:20Speaker 5: you know, I think they take care of one another,
- 20:23Speaker 5: and I think that's what happens as you get older.
- 20:26Speaker 2: And I think we kind of see that, Nana. It's
- 20:29Speaker 2: interesting and the parallels here, we see that saying that
- 20:33Speaker 2: what you're talking about when they sit down during Leslie's date,
- 20:37Speaker 2: which we'll get into, but the other women at the
- 20:39Speaker 2: house are playing never Have It Ever, which is is
- 20:42Speaker 2: usually a very fun game. But if I ever played that,
- 20:45Speaker 2: I would have never agreed to play that when I
- 20:47Speaker 2: was on the show. And the reason is is because
- 20:49Speaker 2: you couldn't be honest because there'd be a ton of judgment.
- 20:52Speaker 2: So say I was the one that was sitting there
- 20:54Speaker 2: and it's like, have you ever kissed somebody else's husband
- 20:58Speaker 2: or whatever that question was. That feel was like, WHOA,
- 21:01Speaker 2: that's obviously a big story, something that's like fairly very controversial,
- 21:06Speaker 2: probably not a good season of your life. But she
- 21:08Speaker 2: was honest, she said she had okay. And if we
- 21:10Speaker 2: were doing this on the Bachelor Bachelorette, you would have
- 21:14Speaker 2: seen interviews with all these women being like I don't
- 21:17Speaker 2: like that woman, like she's a terrible human, she's this
- 21:20Speaker 2: and this and this, and it would have been a
- 21:21Speaker 2: lot of judgment and a lot of criticism, but in
- 21:24Speaker 2: this situation, there was a lack of judgment. There was
- 21:28Speaker 2: almost a laughter at like, hey, we've all had some life,
- 21:31Speaker 2: Like we've all done things we're not proud of. Like
- 21:33Speaker 2: I can't judge you for your mistakes because I don't
- 21:36Speaker 2: want you judging me for mine. And I do think
- 21:39Speaker 2: we almost see like a support during that game for
- 21:43Speaker 2: each other, because in my mind when they started playing
- 21:45Speaker 2: Never Haveever, I was like, this is gonna end terribly,
- 21:49Speaker 2: Like somebody is gonna get really mad, somebody's gonna get
- 21:51Speaker 2: really upset, somebody's gonna feel really a lot of shame
- 21:54Speaker 2: and guilt from this game. But they didn't. It ended
- 21:57Speaker 2: fairly well. Other than Sander having a bad stomachache because
- 21:59Speaker 2: she some ice cream.
- 22:02Speaker 5: I thought that was a great part of the show. Yeah,
- 22:06Speaker 5: just to stay the honesty.
- 22:09Speaker 2: And it was fun. It's fun, and it was yeah,
- 22:13Speaker 2: it's you know, it's it's humanizing. You know. I think
- 22:16Speaker 2: oftentimes the younger generation looks at the people who are
- 22:19Speaker 2: older than them h and they don't think though, you know,
- 22:22Speaker 2: the older generation has dealt with the same kind of
- 22:25Speaker 2: stuff that we're dealing with today. And I think those
- 22:28Speaker 2: moments humanize the older generation for all of us to
- 22:32Speaker 2: watch and be like, you know what, they were young
- 22:35Speaker 2: ones too. They made stupid decisions ones too. They're human,
- 22:39Speaker 2: they're not perfect, and I do think that's a really
- 22:41Speaker 2: cool part about watching this experience. Well, we got to
- 22:45Speaker 2: jump into Leslie's date. Leslie has the one on one
- 22:47Speaker 2: this week. Leslie's wearing the short shorts and she's pulling
- 22:51Speaker 2: them off. Jess and I talked about last night. Jess
- 22:53Speaker 2: says she's got great legs, so hey, good for her.
- 22:57Speaker 2: She should be wearing what she's wearing. They go on
- 22:59Speaker 2: on on a ATV ride through the Los Angeles desert.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Looks like a ton of fun, looks like a great experience.
- 23:08Speaker 2: They're not really. They can't really talk to each other,
- 23:10Speaker 2: so they're just cruising around for a bit. But you know,
- 23:14Speaker 2: Leslie has been a big character on this show since
- 23:17Speaker 2: the beginning. She introduced herself as the sexy dancer. We
- 23:22Speaker 2: saw her dance moves during the talent show. I think
- 23:25Speaker 2: Gary is very interested in Leslie. But I would love
- 23:29Speaker 2: to also hear your thoughts on Leslie after this date
- 23:33Speaker 2: and kind of leading up to this date, what are
- 23:34Speaker 2: your thoughts on Leslie and kind of where does she
- 23:36Speaker 2: sit maybe for you in terms of her connection with Gary.
- 23:40Speaker 2: So Nana will start with you this time.
- 23:43Speaker 5: I really like Leslie and I like her willingness to
- 23:52Speaker 5: be who she really is. She liked writing the ATV,
- 23:57Speaker 5: She had her shorts on, she danced, she she she
- 24:03Speaker 5: gave herself permission to be herself. So I liked her,
- 24:08Speaker 5: and I and and I think he liked her too,
- 24:13Speaker 5: because yeah, she she was herself. She was genuine.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Nana, do you think.
- 24:20Speaker 3: That for Gary Leslie is more of like a physical
- 24:24Speaker 3: attraction or do you think that they can connect emotionally?
- 24:31Speaker 5: I think that if any of this is gonna work,
- 24:35Speaker 5: it's going to be connecting emotionally. So you know, if
- 24:41Speaker 5: there's a chance, I think they can.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 24:46Speaker 5: Would you ever get on an ATV?
- 24:48Speaker 4: Nanna?
- 24:51Speaker 6: No, I may have, you know, at some point, but not.
- 25:02Speaker 5: I mean, I give her credit.
- 25:04Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm the guy it is.
- 25:11Speaker 2: It is impressive to me. We've talked about it every
- 25:16Speaker 2: week so far. But you know, most people on the
- 25:20Speaker 2: show right now are in their late sixties, early seventies.
- 25:23Speaker 2: It's kind of the age range that we have. It's
- 25:25Speaker 2: impressive the amount of physical activity and also energy that
- 25:30Speaker 2: everybody has to be up early in the morning, going
- 25:32Speaker 2: to bed very late at night, and also throughout the
- 25:35Speaker 2: whole day doing an activity of some kind, socializing maybe
- 25:38Speaker 2: with their friends. Like it feels like it would be
- 25:41Speaker 2: exhausting for me now, and I can't imagine now, you know,
- 25:47Speaker 2: forty years from this day having that energy to keep
- 25:51Speaker 2: going every day on and on. I'm impressed. So, Nana,
- 25:55Speaker 2: are you impressed with the physical uh aptitude that everybody
- 26:02Speaker 2: on the show seems to have.
- 26:05Speaker 5: Uh? Yeah, well, you know what, I see that in
- 26:10Speaker 5: my in my life every day. You know, the people
- 26:14Speaker 5: that I hang with, if you will, that's how they are.
- 26:19Speaker 5: They're physical, they're active, they're you know, uh, that's the
- 26:25Speaker 5: way they live. So and I and I admire that.
- 26:30Speaker 5: So I think these women are great and and and
- 26:33Speaker 5: you know, by doing this, I think it gives them,
- 26:38Speaker 5: It gives them permission to be to let themselves out.
- 26:43Speaker 5: I think that that really gives them permission. And and
- 26:48Speaker 5: when you start letting yourself out, who knows what can happen.
- 26:53Speaker 2: So to dig into that a little bit, I'm curious.
- 26:57Speaker 2: So do you feel like, uh, because I think that's
- 27:00Speaker 2: such a beautiful thing, is to give yourself permission to
- 27:02Speaker 2: let yourselves out to live a little so in your seventies,
- 27:08Speaker 2: do you think men and women, maybe, if you know,
- 27:13Speaker 2: take this show out of consideration, do you think they
- 27:16Speaker 2: feel a pressure to not just let themselves free at times?
- 27:20Speaker 2: Do you think they have some restrictions maybe in their
- 27:23Speaker 2: everyday life that forces them to not just be able
- 27:26Speaker 2: to let loose and have fun like they're able to
- 27:28Speaker 2: on this show.
- 27:30Speaker 5: Yes, I think they do. And I guess I can
- 27:34Speaker 5: honestly say that I probably know some women who, you know,
- 27:38Speaker 5: just don't have the ability to be who they really
- 27:41Speaker 5: are for a lot of reasons.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a beautiful part of the show. Then, I
- 27:47Speaker 2: mean that's a kind of a sad part of this
- 27:49Speaker 2: show that we're able to witness a bunch of people
- 27:53Speaker 2: having a lot of fun and being free during this
- 27:57Speaker 2: whole experience, maybe for the first time in a while. Well,
- 28:00Speaker 2: I can't imagine what that feels like.
- 28:03Speaker 5: I think it's great, it's great you're giving them permission.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Well, no, and I think you're right, and I think
- 28:13Speaker 2: we see it, and I think we're seeing it with Leslie,
- 28:16Speaker 2: you know, Leslie had mentioned to Gary that she'd been
- 28:18Speaker 2: single for twenty two years. I do think there is
- 28:22Speaker 2: something to this relationship. I don't know the depth that
- 28:25Speaker 2: it will go, but I do think there is a
- 28:26Speaker 2: connection there, and I do think Gary is very attracted
- 28:29Speaker 2: to her. But I also think there it feels like
- 28:33Speaker 2: for whatever season of life Gary is going to be
- 28:35Speaker 2: entering into, he is looking for somebody who can have
- 28:39Speaker 2: fun with him, who can joke with him, who he's
- 28:41Speaker 2: attracted to, and in so far, Leslie matches all of those.
- 28:46Speaker 2: I still feel like, even after this date, personally, it
- 28:52Speaker 2: didn't have the depth that we've seen on other one
- 28:55Speaker 2: on one dates that he's had this season. I don't
- 28:58Speaker 2: think I can leave it being like they're Their depth
- 29:00Speaker 2: that they got to so easily feels like one that
- 29:05Speaker 2: could propel them into a future together. But I still
- 29:07Speaker 2: think there's something there. Do you guys agree?
- 29:11Speaker 5: I don't. Yeah.
- 29:12Speaker 3: I think the one thing that's always been confusing me
- 29:15Speaker 3: about the show is the amount of time you get
- 29:17Speaker 3: with the person. I know that I've talked to you
- 29:20Speaker 3: a lot about that too, Ben, So I feel like
- 29:22Speaker 3: a lot of it, Like I feel like it you
- 29:25Speaker 3: just have to have more time to make those deep connections.
- 29:28Speaker 3: So it's Leslie's there longer than they They definitely could. Also,
- 29:34Speaker 3: I'm at work. I have a client here. I just
- 29:37Speaker 3: wanted to get you guys going, But Nana and Ben,
- 29:40Speaker 3: I know that you guys are going to have a
- 29:42Speaker 3: great rest of your conversation. I just have to sign off. Okay, guys, bye,
- 29:49Speaker 3: love y'all.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Well, Nana, we do have a few people who are
- 30:05Speaker 2: on the injured Reserve. Coming into the end of the
- 30:08Speaker 2: episode the cocktail party, Nancy has a bum leg. She
- 30:12Speaker 2: got a stress fracture playing pickleball. We didn't see it.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Maybe I missed it, but like it kind of came
- 30:18Speaker 2: out of nowhere for me, and then Nancy's going to
- 30:21Speaker 2: go home because of it. That's too bad, but I'm
- 30:24Speaker 2: not shocked. I don't know if Nancy wanted to be
- 30:28Speaker 2: there necessarily much longer. It felt like she was kind
- 30:31Speaker 2: of like having fun and into the experience, But it
- 30:33Speaker 2: never felt like Nancy really like dove into a connection
- 30:38Speaker 2: with Gary.
- 30:39Speaker 5: Well she said, I mean, she's what she said is
- 30:42Speaker 5: that she doesn't feel like he's She's part of the
- 30:47Speaker 5: people he's interested in. You know, I didn't get the
- 30:51Speaker 5: impression she was going home because of her leg I
- 30:53Speaker 5: got the impression that she just didn't feel comfortable there,
- 30:58Speaker 5: she didn't feel humped well with the whole situation, and
- 31:02Speaker 5: she didn't feel that she really that he really made
- 31:06Speaker 5: a connection with her. And he agreed.
- 31:09Speaker 2: H Yeah, he did agree. I think I think she
- 31:12Speaker 2: was probably going home that evening. And so, you know,
- 31:15Speaker 2: from my experience in the show, it's always nice to
- 31:17Speaker 2: have when somebody doesn't feel it, it's nice to have
- 31:20Speaker 2: that kind of closing conversation because if not, you're just
- 31:23Speaker 2: kind of not giving them a rose, and they're going home,
- 31:25Speaker 2: they're getting a car in their car run. So it
- 31:27Speaker 2: is nice to kind of have that closure of hey,
- 31:29Speaker 2: this is great, I think you're great, but we're not
- 31:32Speaker 2: clicking like we know we should be, and I'm just
- 31:35Speaker 2: gonna go home. Uh And and so I'm not surprised
- 31:38Speaker 2: by Nancy's departure. In fact, I do think it made
- 31:41Speaker 2: a little easier on Gary at the end of the evening,
- 31:44Speaker 2: so that he didn't have to let go of three women.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Instead he only had to do two. At the rose ceremony,
- 31:50Speaker 2: Sander sick. Yeah, as she mentioned kind of in uh
- 31:53Speaker 2: in just just as she ate the ice cream, she said, Hey,
- 31:58Speaker 2: I shouldn't have this ice cream because I'm not going
- 32:00Speaker 2: to feel good. And sure enough we see her laying
- 32:04Speaker 2: in bed, just kind of sulking in her you know,
- 32:08Speaker 2: lactose intolerant miseries, which is never fun for anybody and
- 32:12Speaker 2: probably not something you want to have as you're also
- 32:15Speaker 2: trying to date on a national television shows. You know. Well,
- 32:20Speaker 2: the rose ceremony, the cocktail party kind of continues. The
- 32:23Speaker 2: only part about the cocktail party that I really believe
- 32:27Speaker 2: is worth speaking of is the conversation with Ellen. We
- 32:30Speaker 2: talked about Ellen earlier on. She was very open about
- 32:33Speaker 2: her feelings. I believe them. I can see in her
- 32:35Speaker 2: eyes there is a sparkle, there is an excitement. And
- 32:39Speaker 2: she kind of continues that conversation that she had earlier
- 32:42Speaker 2: with Gary into then this evening. And Gary responds with
- 32:47Speaker 2: pretty much telling her without telling her, hey, I'm feeling
- 32:51Speaker 2: the same way you are. And he makes this comment, Nana.
- 32:54Speaker 2: He says he thought the world ended when he lost
- 32:59Speaker 2: his late wife Tony, but he has that feeling again.
- 33:03Speaker 2: It's the It's what we got in the sneak peek
- 33:06Speaker 2: at the beginning. As you see this scene, it's really
- 33:10Speaker 2: the first time that we've seen this type of depth
- 33:15Speaker 2: and emotion. And I guess just somebody you know explaining
- 33:20Speaker 2: how much they're feeling for each other on this show
- 33:22Speaker 2: so far, how does it make you feel?
- 33:25Speaker 5: I felt great. I felt like it was so sincere
- 33:32Speaker 5: and so genuine and I could see where it could
- 33:37Speaker 5: just bring up all those feelings. I thought it was beautiful.
- 33:42Speaker 5: I thought it was beautiful. I really did. I felt
- 33:46Speaker 5: again like he was they're really into each other.
- 33:51Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. In fact, I got a lot of texts
- 33:53Speaker 2: last night from people who are watching the episode, and
- 33:57Speaker 2: I think this, this moment is a moment that so
- 34:01Speaker 2: many viewers have been waiting for where they feel like, hey,
- 34:05Speaker 2: this could work. This is really good because I think
- 34:08Speaker 2: viewers have been convinced since early on in this season
- 34:12Speaker 2: that there's an there's a genuineness, that there is a
- 34:16Speaker 2: desire to find somebody. But also, as you were, you know, explaining,
- 34:20Speaker 2: there's also viewers are enjoying seeing people kind of thrive
- 34:24Speaker 2: in this environment and seeing how people in their sixties
- 34:27Speaker 2: and seventies get along when they live inside of a mansion.
- 34:30Speaker 2: But I think most a lot of viewers will waiting
- 34:32Speaker 2: for this kind of breakpoint where now we're seeing, you know,
- 34:36Speaker 2: real feelings start to get said. I will say this
- 34:42Speaker 2: with a caveat though, Nana. I think opening up this
- 34:45Speaker 2: door for Gary as he starts to feel these things
- 34:49Speaker 2: and starts to express these things, is only going to
- 34:52Speaker 2: make this experience a lot harder for him. I don't
- 34:55Speaker 2: think he's ready personally for the amount of feelings and
- 34:58Speaker 2: emotions he about to get as the season continues.
- 35:04Speaker 5: And that maybe that's important. Is he ready? I mean,
- 35:08Speaker 5: and I don't know. It hasn't been that long, right
- 35:10Speaker 5: as I remember that he lost.
- 35:12Speaker 2: His wife, I think it's seven years, So it's seven years,
- 35:18Speaker 2: but I think that's seven years of pretty much not dating,
- 35:21Speaker 2: and so you know, that's it's seven years of not
- 35:24Speaker 2: having these feelings, and now he might be feeling as
- 35:27Speaker 2: we see on most seasons, he might have these same
- 35:29Speaker 2: feelings for multiple people, and he's gonna end up having
- 35:32Speaker 2: to say goodbye to people that he deeply cares about.
- 35:35Speaker 2: That and he's not used to feeling this way. It's
- 35:39Speaker 2: been forty seven years, you know, since he met his wife,
- 35:43Speaker 2: and so forty seven years of not kind of having
- 35:46Speaker 2: these these love feelings and uh, and I think it's
- 35:49Speaker 2: gonna make it really hard on him as we continue on.
- 35:53Speaker 5: I think that's a great point. I didn't I didn't
- 35:55Speaker 5: think of it that way, but yeah, you know, how
- 36:00Speaker 5: do you how do you interpret everything that's going on
- 36:04Speaker 5: inside of you? Is this really what I feel? Or
- 36:07Speaker 5: is it do I miss my wife? Or you know?
- 36:11Speaker 5: I think I agree with you, Ben. I think it's
- 36:13Speaker 5: going to be hotter and harder.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Yeah, which as a viewer I'm excited for. But if
- 36:21Speaker 2: I'm Gary, uh, and I'm thinking about Gary, I'm sad
- 36:24Speaker 2: for because I think it's going to be a really
- 36:26Speaker 2: hard road to the happiness that he's hoping for at
- 36:28Speaker 2: the end, and we hope that he finds that happiness.
- 36:30Speaker 2: As a viewer, I am. I am excited to see
- 36:36Speaker 2: what emotions and what feelings come out now from this
- 36:41Speaker 2: point forward, because I think they're going to be very
- 36:43Speaker 2: real for everybody, and I think they're going to be
- 36:46Speaker 2: very believable for us as an audience, and and I
- 36:49Speaker 2: think we're going to be kind of on the edge
- 36:50Speaker 2: of our seat wondering how in the world is he
- 36:52Speaker 2: going to say goodbye to one of these people because
- 36:55Speaker 2: I know he cares about so them all so much.
- 36:59Speaker 5: Yes, and it's a it's a real growth process for him.
- 37:03Speaker 5: It's a real moving forward time for him. And it's
- 37:07Speaker 5: going to be painful, you know, the things he has
- 37:11Speaker 5: to let go of and hang on to. So I
- 37:15Speaker 5: think it will be difficult, But I think it's good.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's healthy, right, you would say it's healthy, very healthy.
- 37:21Speaker 5: It's helping him to get some closure in his life
- 37:25Speaker 5: and to resolve some of the grief and getting permission.
- 37:33Speaker 5: I think that's the biggest thing. He's got. Permission to
- 37:36Speaker 5: move forward.
- 37:38Speaker 2: That's beautiful. Yeah, permission to move forward. We're going to
- 37:41Speaker 2: see it with their own eyes as we continue to
- 37:43Speaker 2: watch this season. But as this episode ended, Ellen, Faith, Susan,
- 37:47Speaker 2: and Teresa are left, along with Sandra and Leslie who
- 37:51Speaker 2: got the roses during the episode. Kathy and April are
- 37:54Speaker 2: going home. I'm not shocked or surprised, Nana. Were you
- 37:58Speaker 2: shocked or surprised by the two eliminations of.
- 38:00Speaker 5: Week No, No, it's it's kind of the way I
- 38:05Speaker 5: figured it would go.
- 38:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so.
- 38:09Speaker 5: I think I was happy about Sandra. Yeah, I think
- 38:12Speaker 5: she's a real genuine person you know, and I think
- 38:16Speaker 5: he sees her as that, as a real genuine person,
- 38:19Speaker 5: not necessarily somebody's going to fall in love with, but
- 38:23Speaker 5: just a real genuine person.
- 38:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to see more from her, Like I
- 38:29Speaker 2: think you're right, Like she comes off very genuine, Jess,
- 38:32Speaker 2: and I love watching her on television. I think she
- 38:34Speaker 2: has this calm demeanor about her, and she's she's very
- 38:38Speaker 2: you know, a very prevalent person on the show. But
- 38:41Speaker 2: we haven't gotten enough. I want to know a little more.
- 38:46Speaker 2: I want to see the two of them together now.
- 38:49Speaker 5: I mean he used the word empathy when he talked
- 38:52Speaker 5: about her, Yeah, and you could see that she's a
- 38:55Speaker 5: very empathetic person.
- 38:58Speaker 2: You know, I am a little know and you brought
- 39:00Speaker 2: up a good point about her. I think when he
- 39:03Speaker 2: gave her the rose, you know, he mentioned that she
- 39:06Speaker 2: gave a big sacrifice to stay and be on that show.
- 39:10Speaker 2: I would have, you know. I think that's great and
- 39:13Speaker 2: I think he really means that. But yet we haven't
- 39:16Speaker 2: necessarily seen him say and I just want her around
- 39:19Speaker 2: because I just I can't get enough of her, you know,
- 39:22Speaker 2: like I just need her around. Like I think he
- 39:23Speaker 2: gave her the rose because he's like, you're awesome, I'm
- 39:27Speaker 2: into it, but you also give up a big sacrifice.
- 39:30Speaker 2: So in a sense, I kind of feel like I
- 39:31Speaker 2: want to give you this gift for doing this, But
- 39:34Speaker 2: it wasn't necessarily saying I want to give you this
- 39:36Speaker 2: rose because I just can't think of you not being
- 39:38Speaker 2: here any longer.
- 39:40Speaker 7: Yes, I know, yeah, I mean he's getting attached to people, yeah,
- 39:46Speaker 7: at different levels than falling in love with them.
- 39:50Speaker 5: I think he's getting attached to people emotionally at this point,
- 39:57Speaker 5: not that it's necessarily he's in love with them, and
- 40:03Speaker 5: maybe he's working towards that, but he's emotionally attached to
- 40:08Speaker 5: the women and he really likes them all.
- 40:12Speaker 2: As we mentioned, that's not going to get any easier.
- 40:14Speaker 2: Every week that goes by. His emotions are going to
- 40:17Speaker 2: continue to heighten, his connections are going to continue to grow,
- 40:20Speaker 2: and the women's connections are going to continue. Oh yeah,
- 40:24Speaker 2: it's going to be a very interesting dynamic as this
- 40:26Speaker 2: season continues. Well. In the sneak peaks, we see what
- 40:29Speaker 2: we've been seeing from multiple weeks. Gary is having a
- 40:32Speaker 2: very difficult time processing a lot of these feelings, but
- 40:35Speaker 2: we also see a lot of good connections in him
- 40:37Speaker 2: being very happy and so we don't get a lot
- 40:40Speaker 2: from the sneak peaks, but we will be tuning in
