- 0:22Five minutes after the hour. It is the third and final hour of this
- 0:27radio program for today, The Morning Show with Preston Scott Show forty nine thirty
- 0:31nine. Over there is Grant, alongside is Jared and here we are in
- 0:38Studio one B with Charlie Strickland, he of the Talent Training Group and Talent
- 0:44out Doors. Hello, friend, how are you? I'm doing fantastic this
- 0:48morning. Feeling a little guilty about your carbon footprint? Are you been?
- 0:56I watched the video I was telling you on a break. I was watched
- 0:59the video this guy in the UK that was addressing the left and he was
- 1:04talking about you want to change this and change So I'm just gonna assume your
- 1:07position is correct and that we need to eliminate all CO two that the UK
- 1:11produces. But keep in mind we only produce one point zero three percent of
- 1:15all global emissions, so we're not going to have any effect on global emissions
- 1:19of CO two. Global warming is not going to have be impacted. But
- 1:23you don't care. You want us to do it anyway. You want us
- 1:26to destroy our wall life just based on blah blah blah. And you know
- 1:30so, I the way my brain works, I got I got to dickon
- 1:37and looking at what's going on and wonder if the trends globally. You know,
- 1:42of course, the latest information several years old now, but you know,
- 1:48China's producing a third, almost a third of all global emissions as CO
- 1:52two, and the United States is at fifteen percent. But we're the leading
- 1:56developed country on the planet. But China's catching up. Yep, he surpassing
- 2:01us. They're gonna do and they don't care. The guy running China,
- 2:05you know, and the guy made a really good point. I wish I
- 2:07had linked to the video. He made a really good point. As the
- 2:08leader of China, his family was destroyed by the very party he rules,
- 2:14and he's hanging on the power. And the only whether he hangs on the
- 2:16power is to to thumb his nose at the rest of the world do all
- 2:21the things that he's doing. He's doing exactly what he needs to do for
- 2:24China. You know, we hate him because he's destroying our way of life
- 2:29and the rest of the and putting their style it. But he's doing what
- 2:34China needs him to do. He's you know, just he's torturing people and
- 2:38doing terrible, terrible things by our standards, but by their standards, he's
- 2:43doing a great job and he's gonna stay right there. And you know,
- 2:46all we can do is label I see De Santa's got a big boost.
- 2:51The liberal media has now said that he's worse than Donald Trump. He's sinister,
- 2:55So maybe, oh, what's going wrong with the world? Everything is
- 3:02blowing up? I mean, how far Remember how long ago was it that
- 3:08toxic masculinity was the thing? But you don't hear it, right, They
- 3:17changed the word and I don't know what it is now, but it's whatever,
- 3:22it's it's it's anything that it was toxic masculinity. I remember getting fighting
- 3:27mad at somebody, some college professor from FSU in a medical school at some
- 3:31event. He was just, you know, and he looks like us.
- 3:36He's you know, white dude, just but he's obviously far left. And
- 3:42the university hires him to teach upcoming doctors and that his big thing was toxic
- 3:46masculinity and how bad it was. Well that's what helped makes I mean,
- 3:51my wife would kick me out of the house if I wasn't, you know,
- 3:54if I wasn't an alpha male, So you'd kick me out. So
- 3:58you didn't want some week. She didn't want some week, dude, you
- 4:00know she wants somebody who stands up and as a man, you know,
- 4:04you know, a manly minute, you kind of thing. You know,
- 4:06how do you how do you you know you don't have to be a jerk,
- 4:10and you don't. I mean, you can't be abuse if you can't
- 4:12do all those things. They're a bad trends that some men exhibit. You
- 4:15know those you know those are criminals and yeah, and and narcissists and things.
- 4:20There's all kinds of reasons you can be bad, but that's not you
- 4:25know what I'm talking about. You know what I'm talking about. But now
- 4:28they find other ways to attack us. So I always find a way to
- 4:31attack us. Don't have a gun because you might hurt somebody. You're dog
- 4:34going right, I might excuse me, man, Please have some more water.
- 4:41The Pella greeno yes, sparkling. This breeze is very nice. Good
- 4:46morning, and welcome to the Morning Show with Preston Scott. Do what I
- 4:54do. Subscribe to the Talent Outdoors podcast and you can listen to the show
- 4:58whenever you like. You can get back shows and you'll just have a great
- 5:01time listening of course it's Saturdays. You can listen to it live ten am
- 5:04Eastern and now in Dothan. Yes, how about that? Huh Yeah.
- 5:11If you miss it here, drive west, get in the other time zone.
- 5:16If you'll drive right out of the WFLA listening radius, you'll drive right
- 5:21into the other listening radius for the other network. And so so, if
- 5:26you're on the road, you can listen live. If you're driving to the
- 5:28west, you can hear it twice if you're going that way. And of
- 5:30course you can listen live on i R Radio anytime you want. But three
- 5:33hundred and something episodes. Now, I was going to ask you. You
- 5:36and I started doing these segments, and then j D would come in,
- 5:41and the three of us have talked for a long time. And when we
- 5:45first started these personal defense segments, you got a lot of phone calls from
- 5:48churches and some businesses asking about protocols and what should we do in our situation
- 5:57and circumstance. I'm curious, are you getting as many calls or are you
- 6:01getting different calls? Now I'm not getting as many calls. A COVID had
- 6:05a lot to do with the reduction and phone calls for training consulting assessment.
- 6:14It went down. I was telling you on the break. I mean,
- 6:15I've got a group out of Atlanta, that nonprofit organization a statewide and we'll
- 6:20be doing some virtual training because they don't have to bring all other people to
- 6:24one spot to do it. And you know, it's more personal safety than
- 6:28active shooter but because there people are in the field all the time. So
- 6:30but it's still how to react. I mean. And the church stuff,
- 6:34we were doing church consultations, church visits, you know regularly, JD or
- 6:42I one was out every week doing doing one somewhere, you know. And
- 6:46I guess you remember the big event we did. We had hundreds of people
- 6:49at the Auto Museum. Yeah, we had a room full of people packed
- 6:54to the brim with people. That wasn't an empty seat in the place.
- 6:57And it's just sort of and I think a lot of it has to do
- 7:00with we're getting more people bringing their groups to the range and there's more people
- 7:05coming to training and doing things like that. And I think maybe you know,
- 7:09there's only so many houses of worship in an area that most of those
- 7:13places have established some sort of a team and they have some sort of protocol
- 7:16now and that was our goal was to get the information out. So I'm
- 7:20not and there are some groups going around doing training that they're getting paid for
- 7:27and they're putting out a product. They're not us or anybody affiliated with us.
- 7:30But there's more of it. Um you know, we like to think
- 7:34we filled the need when it was needed. But now and we're still here,
- 7:39we still do. We'll still do any house of I say, house
- 7:43of worship over church because there are you know, different there's all kinds of
- 7:47groups that may you know, we don't have a church, we have a
- 7:49temple or whatever. We we will still pro bono. We will still come
- 7:54talk to you um as as you know, look at your place and see
- 7:58what we suggest. And that it's still out there. But as a law
- 8:01enforcement professional, as a security professional, and as someone that spends a lot
- 8:05of time paying attention to what's going on in the news cycle, it's changing.
- 8:11It's definitely changing. How I mean, I've got stories here of you
- 8:16know, You've got you've got security guards being assaulted by shoplifters and then they're
- 8:20getting fired. You've got employees getting fired for trying to intervene and stop shoplifting.
- 8:26How is it changing? How you advise people or is it as far
- 8:31as I advise organizations or advise individuals, business owners and people that work in
- 8:35a business. Well, I mean as far as employees. You know,
- 8:39you protect yourself. Look at your corporate policies. Listen as like you were
- 8:43talking about before I came in the Lulu anyway, Lululemon, Lululemon or Ukie
- 8:52exactly. Yeah, So anyway, so their employees and I read the article
- 8:58while I was sitting in the parking lineup, hold it up. I looked
- 9:00at it, and yeah, they basically their their corporate policies don't intervene.
- 9:05They just scan a QR code and go, hey, we had a theft,
- 9:09and leave it alone and let them come in, let them do.
- 9:09Say that's what's wrong with the world today is that we're just saying, y'all,
- 9:15do what you want, take what you want, We're not to do
- 9:16anything about it, which just leads to more and more and more, and
- 9:18ultimately it leads to violence. And so if you're an employee and that's your
- 9:24store policy, there's not a piece of property that your boss owns that's worth
- 9:28losing your job or going to jail or getting hurt over and let them take
- 9:35it. That's the that's the business. As a company owner, I think
- 9:39you're stupid if that's your policy. I think you should have security cameras.
- 9:43You should have if you've got a theft problem, hire some security you know,
- 9:48whose job is to intervene. There's a lot of things that you can
- 9:50do, um but don't you know, don't don't have your employee stand around
- 9:56like a like a dummy during something like that, and certainly don't fire them
- 9:58for trying to make difference. Twenty one minutes after the hour of the Morning
- 10:03Show with Preston Scott, Charlie Strickland of the Talent Training Group and again I
- 10:07get time with Charlie and j D each month, a couple of times a
- 10:11month. This is your time if you want it. Eight five zero two
- 10:13zero five WFLA IRA, thanks very much for calling into the program. What's
- 10:18your question? What's your topic? What do you want to kick around here?
- 10:22Well? I got to the first one is all day concel you'll carry
- 10:28in Florida. I'm going to stop being able to carry openly if you're fishing.
- 10:37No, that's not true. It didn't change any of that, None
- 10:41of that came. No, you can still that part of the law that
- 10:46allows you to open carry hunting, fishing, camping, or going to and
- 10:50from those events or two or from a gun range is still still on the
- 10:54books. Everything's the same, except that you just don't have to apply for
- 10:56a permit or get training in order to carry without a permit anymore. I
- 11:03got a license and I'm gonna keep renewing. I mean Georgia, So it's
- 11:07different. Okay. Oh, I am a proud owner of an AAR fifteen.
- 11:16Good for you, very recent now I'm trying to overcome some of them
- 11:24and hails about them. Meal spec. If it's Meal Spec, that means
- 11:31anything are platform will work with it. Most every AAR fifteen is in fact
- 11:37mel spec because you can you can take any part off of one R fifteen
- 11:43and put it on another. That's what mel spec means that it meets the
- 11:46military specifications, So you can take some parts off of a military rifle and
- 11:50put it on a civilian advice versa, as long as it's not the parts
- 11:54that make it fully automatic. Right. Well, I own a Many fourteen
- 12:00also, okay, I think older timon bar and I'm meaning fourteen full the
- 12:05trigger fire released trigger fire. Oh well, I got to looking at these
- 12:13binary triggers. That's what they do. Correct. Um, the uh,
- 12:22you kind of got me on that one. I'll be honest with you.
- 12:24There there are several different trigger designs out They are the ones that fire wants.
- 12:30They're in order for it to be legal, it has to be semi
- 12:33automatic. You pull the trigger each operation of the trigger. You can argue
- 12:39that as you pull it that's one operation. As you release it, that's
- 12:41another operation. Um. Some of that stuff is not legal in Florida,
- 12:46in Georgia. These are mainly federal laws. And I really, I'm gonna
- 12:52be honest with you. Stumped me on that one just a little bit because
- 12:54I don't get into triggers. I'm not a trigger guy. I like just
- 12:58a traditional semi auto trigger. Never have seen much value in doing all that
- 13:03stuff. So, Hira, thanks very much. I appreciate your phone call.
- 13:07Thanks for listening to the program. How much are guns changing? They
- 13:15look different, but they're not changing much. I mean, they're our manufacturers
- 13:20basically making guns that look cooler. Yeah, I mean, so what they're
- 13:24doing is they're taking the same basic operating system and they're shaping everything different.
- 13:31It's ergonomically different, but the basic functioning of all this stuff is the same.
- 13:35I mean, the most innovative thing that came out in my recollection was
- 13:41when Glock started building Striker fired systems back in the late eighties, you know,
- 13:46or whenever I first saw them in the late eighties when I get in
- 13:50the law enforcement. But pretty much everything is. You know, you had
- 13:54your nineteen eleven style stuff, and now you've got Striker fired system You've got
- 13:58double acts, double single acts. It's like the six where the first round
- 14:01is a double action the second one, you know, where you can cock
- 14:03the hammer or fire. I mean it's the same stuff. But as you
- 14:07every time they'll come out with something and this triggers a little different, or
- 14:11this safeties just got a safety here versus there. You know, Smith and
- 14:15Whiston mp eass came out with that. We got a grip safety on it.
- 14:18Yeah, unlike in nineteen eleven, which was designing early nineteen hundreds.
- 14:22Um, you know this this thing has a hammer. This is hammer lists.
- 14:26Okay, well, but it's all the same stuff. It's who can
- 14:30make the coolest looking polymer? I mean, everybody's you know, a lot
- 14:33of people, a lot of companies have copied a glock to the point where
- 14:37you can almost change out parts on some of them. And you know,
- 14:41like the gentleman will saying, you know, mill speck stuff AAR fifteens or
- 14:45AAR fifteens, and they've been a R fifteens. Now some parts don't interchange
- 14:48with other parts, but most of them you can take an up are off
- 14:50of one, stick it on another. You know, this is this whole
- 14:54pistol issue. You know, take the take the pistol. There's a pistol.
- 15:03Brace off said it in another room, and all of a sudden,
- 15:05it's not a pistol. It's it's not a short bare rifle per the ATF's
- 15:09designation anymore. Now it's a pistol again. It's just you know, by
- 15:13the way, that's on hold well in the fifth district. But I would
- 15:18I would still not be snapping it on air and put posting pictures on Facebook
- 15:22and mean go into the rain shooting it. Wait, it's just give it
- 15:26a little bit longer. You know. The whole point with that is intent.
- 15:30You know, do you have the intention you get into construction anyway,
- 15:33there's a lot of discussion. We'll pick up there and go some more if
- 15:35you have a question eight five zero two zero five to BFL A couple more
- 15:39segments. Charlie Strickland of the Talent Training Group on the Morning Show with Preston's
- 15:43Got thirty six minutes after the hour the Morning Show, Charlie Strickland of the
- 15:48Talent Training Group with me A couple more segments. You wanted to follow up.
- 15:52Ira had a couple of lengthy topics he kind of brought up, but
- 15:58you wanted to clarify the real quick. I hate to say stuff unless I
- 16:03know something, and you mentioned a binary trigger. There's so many different triggers
- 16:07out there, and honestly, what people call one thing confused. I get
- 16:11confused of what somebody calls it. The binary trigger. Who was referencing is
- 16:14when you pull the trigger at one time, it goes bang. When you
- 16:17let go of the trigger, it goes bang. Which seems to be legal
- 16:19federally, and it looks to be legal in Georgia. I don't think it's
- 16:23legal in Florida based on them bump stock prohibition, the law that came out
- 16:30which was separate than the federal prohibition. Because you know there was some case
- 16:34laws, you know, district core opinions on bump stocks nationally, same way
- 16:38there is with pistol embraces and all that. But Florida very specifically has a
- 16:42law that bans that type of stuff and any device that increases the rate of
- 16:47fire to cause a firem to be able to be capable of firing faster than
- 16:52a regular semi automatic. So, based on my interpretation of seven ninety point
- 16:57two two two, you would be illegal. It would be illegal for you
- 17:02to have a binary trigger that allows you to fire twice with one full sweep
- 17:07operation of a trigger. So anyway, I would keep that many fourteen in
- 17:12Georgia. The pistol brace issue we mentioned, I think it's the fifth circuit.
- 17:18It covers Louisiana, Texas, and maybe Mississippi, but it doesn't cover
- 17:25the nation. That said, it's likely gonna still end up before the US
- 17:30Supreme Court. Well legal some of the legal opinions that are out on that
- 17:33means that not only is it just in that district for now, it is
- 17:37also only affects one manufacturer and then the members of the organization that file the
- 17:42suit, not just anybody, which how do you how do you enforce that?
- 17:48So, but I think and Jenny and I've talked about this, we
- 17:51think that that's just the domino that's going to start the rest of the dominoes
- 17:55to fall around the country until it gets it going to go to Supreme Court
- 17:57at some point in time. I would, uh, I would keep my
- 18:02pistol braces separate from my firearms. I mean, what's the what's the chance
- 18:07of somebody getting a warrant to come to your house to look and see what
- 18:11you have in the first place? Um, and then it gets in a
- 18:14lot of people talking about constructive possession will Constructive possession typically means that there's an
- 18:18illegal item in your presence, not on you. It's there. If you
- 18:22have methamphetamines in your car and you're the only one driving the car, I
- 18:26mean, we catch, we catch you, as law enforcement catches you.
- 18:29You know, well, I don't I don't have it on my person,
- 18:32yes, but you have it in the vehicle with you. Well, that
- 18:36implies that that item is illegal. Okay. Well, constructive possession doesn't mean
- 18:41that you have a that you have a pistol and a brace, and because
- 18:47they're near each other, that's not that's not constructive possession. That could show
- 18:49intent to put those two things together, but that's not constructive possession. That's
- 18:56that's basically you know you you had the intent to do this. Um.
- 19:00But then it gets really muddy because if you had some PVC pipe and some
- 19:04gunpowder and some fuse and some you know, well, you might be making
- 19:10an iad Well, I don't know, depends on where they were, if
- 19:14the cannon fuse is in the garage and the PVC pipes out there. But
- 19:18but you're you're in the well, you get your your your your gunpowder is
- 19:23in your reloading room with the rest of your stuff. I mean, how
- 19:26do you prove that? So there's I wouldn't be overly concerned about any of
- 19:30that right now. I certainly wouldn't be throwing anything into trash, and I
- 19:33wouldn't be unless I was going to be going to the range with these items.
- 19:36I'd just leave it alone, because you know, you want to you
- 19:38want to pin and weld your barrel to make it sixteen inches so that you
- 19:42can that's fine. Uh, Honestly, I think it's I think it's a
- 19:47little soon until the decisions are back with the courts. And all. But
- 19:52you know, if you do what you feel comfortable with. Um, my
- 19:55stuff is just disassembled and spread out where nobody can say I plan on taking
- 20:00stuff to the range until until said time. Yeah, fital segmentarily strickling of
- 20:04the talent training group, and we were just talking over kicking around some random
- 20:10things, and I was thinking about the fact, Charlie that what are your
- 20:15expectations come July first? Are you expecting a lot of people to buy guns
- 20:22because they can now do so without having to obtain a CCW. I part
- 20:30of me says, I hope so, and part of me says I hope
- 20:33not. I would think that people who wanted to carry would already be going
- 20:37and getting a training and applying for permits and all. But I also know
- 20:40that that is a barrier to entry and always has been. Anytime you have
- 20:45to make an effort to do that stuff, it slows things down. You
- 20:48know, just a lot of how many people would don't start a business because
- 20:52they don't understand the process of filings to get an LLC or to get insurance
- 20:57and do all that stuff. I mean, it's just a completeity process and
- 21:02there's risk involved. And now the doors open for people to just do what
- 21:06they can do legally because they had the an alienable right to carry keeping,
- 21:11you know, firearm for self defense. And now, so yes, I
- 21:15think you're going to see an increase. We're already seeing an increase because people
- 21:18don't understand the law hadn't gone into effect and want for another month. But
- 21:22you know, it is what it is. People. Oh, they passed
- 21:25the law, they just assumed that it's on the books now and it's not.
- 21:29So you'll be careful for another thirty something days. Just be careful.
- 21:34So yeah, I think you'll see more people coming out. We'll see we'll
- 21:37see a lot more first time shooters. But just because there's no barrier to
- 21:41entry now, you still have to go through the background check, you still
- 21:47have to go through the process. You still can't buy a firearm if you're
- 21:49a convicted feller and you have a domestic balance injunction against you, if you
- 21:52blah blah blah blah blah, can I insert something. Yeah, just because
- 21:56you can, doesn't mean you should. But if you do, get training,
- 22:02get training and think about how you're going to store the firearm when you
- 22:04get it home. I got kids who visits the house. Yeah, I
- 22:08mean who's in your house? And if Florida law does require that you keep
- 22:11a firearm secured if a child. What it says is, if if a
- 22:18minor obtains a firearm and takes it to a public place and exhibits it or
- 22:23hurts themselves or someone else or whatever, you can and will be charged with
- 22:26the misdemeanor crime because you didn't secure it properly. You have to secure it
- 22:32in a way that a reasonable person would believe that that child wouldn't be able
- 22:33to get it. Now, somebody breaks in your house and gets it,
- 22:36that's different. That's that doesn't apply. So think about it. You know
- 22:40there are some inexpensive guns safe now, a personal defense gun in your home.
- 22:45You don't want to lock that thing up where you can't get to it
- 22:48in the middle of the night, but you certainly want to put it somewhere
- 22:51that your children can't get to it. So there's a lot a lot of
- 22:52options out there on how you can do that, from biometric stuff that I
- 22:56don't trust, to push button things that you have to remember the combination while
- 23:00you're a commentary with each of these items. But honestly, if you if
- 23:03you wake up so zoned out that you can't figure out how to get to
- 23:07your gun. You probably don't need to be shooting the threat in your house
- 23:11because you might not actually be a threat. I mean, I don't know
- 23:12how much ambium you might have taken or whatever. But the fact is is,
- 23:15you know, you know you want to bed drunk, you know,
- 23:19wake up in the middle of the night and shoot your roommate of your spouse
- 23:22because you just wann't know. I mean, so there's a lot of responsibility
- 23:26that goes with firearms and go into the range. We'll see a lot of
- 23:30first time shooters out there, and we're going to devote time to that in
- 23:34the coming weeks because there there is a reality more and more people are going
- 23:37to be getting firearms. And the thing that I love about your range,
- 23:42Charlie, and look, there are public ranges out there, folks. I've
- 23:48been to them. I know you've been to them. I would never ever
- 23:51ever suggest a first time shooter going to a polk range. I just wouldn't
- 23:55know. It's scary. And the thing is is, and if you're if
- 23:57you haven't shot a firearm before getting one and watching a YouTube video and going
- 24:02out and shooting it by yourself probably not the way you want to go,
- 24:04particularly if you're concerned with loud noises and over pressure. There's things if you
- 24:11get the right kind of training will walk you or whoever is teaching it will
- 24:15walk you through those things and make it less of a concern. I mean,
- 24:18I do a lot of like up at the Dothan Facility. I'm doing
- 24:22a lot of training up there now. First time shooters. Got a lady,
- 24:26bless her heart, got a few years on her and she's coming every
- 24:30Thursday until she feels comfortable. You know, I have a standing. It's
- 24:33the right way to do it. Yeah. And the guns she bought what
- 24:37and the guns she needed, you know, it's in our counter for sale
- 24:40used right now. And we got her in the ones she needed. And
- 24:44she's she's going to she wants to be able to protect herself, and bless
- 24:48her heart, she's getting better at it and she's gonna be able to.
- 24:52Yeah, I mean, and I applaud that. And that's what people should
- 24:55do, and that's what we're here for. Find somebody to walk you through.
- 24:57I see a lot of stuff on social media where people are taking to
- 25:00friends and arrange that's awesome as long as you know what you're talking about.
- 25:04We're going to talk more about that in the coming weeks with j D and
- 25:08Charlie and our personal defense segments. As always, thanks to the time.
- 25:12I appreciate you coming in. Yes, Sir Charlie Strickland of the Talent Training
