- 0:00Speaker 1: Back with to Achima. We're just talking to it here.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Cafe Ara Monday Night says, busy week. Women don't play
- 0:08Speaker 2: until Thursday, and it's a big one. Creighton comes to
- 0:11Speaker 2: town and the Big East Championship is at stake to
- 0:14Speaker 2: the regular season Huskies win, they get it outright. If
- 0:17Speaker 2: Creighton wins, more than likely they'll share the titles. Six
- 0:21Speaker 2: thirty on the radio from the Excel Center and any
- 0:23Speaker 2: tickets lefters that sold out all right, less than one hundred,
- 0:29Speaker 2: so ukon tickets dot com is the place to go
- 0:32Speaker 2: if you are looking to come see till Huskies played.
- 0:35Speaker 3: What Denil says that like thirteen sellouts this year? Yeah,
- 0:42Speaker 3: what's she said? I didn't catch you, but pretty good.
- 0:46Speaker 3: I think you've so loved just about every home game
- 0:48Speaker 3: this year, just about that's.
- 0:50Speaker 2: It's incredible, it is, it's incredible. Both teams have drawn
- 0:53Speaker 2: really well season. Creighton comes in, uh. Their only lost
- 0:57Speaker 2: in conference play was the Huskies back on January twenty
- 1:00Speaker 2: fifth at the Chi Health Arena where they had over
- 1:03Speaker 2: eleven thousand. They shattered their attendance record there. But it's
- 1:06Speaker 2: a veteran group. Let's see is it break? Molly Jensen
- 1:11Speaker 2: and Mogensen are all seniors or grad students, and they've
- 1:15Speaker 2: come back with one more crack of the Huskies and
- 1:17Speaker 2: here they are with a chance to tie for a championship,
- 1:20Speaker 2: and Jim Flanner is in the heck of a job
- 1:22Speaker 2: at Omaha.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Yeah, that group went to the final eight a couple
- 1:27Speaker 3: of years ago, and everyone win from the final.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Four twenty two.
- 1:30Speaker 3: And they're smart, you know, they play well together.
- 1:35Speaker 1: They beat Iowan the way to the Elite eight.
- 1:37Speaker 3: They beat Iowan the way to the Elite eight. Yeah,
- 1:39Speaker 3: so I have no idea how they weren't ranked higher.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Yeah, they're twenty two right now.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that's crazy. There's not twenty one teams
- 1:51Speaker 3: in the country. Better than that. I would love to
- 1:53Speaker 3: see twenty one teams. I would like to see any
- 1:56Speaker 3: team out of the top ten think that they could
- 1:58Speaker 3: just play creating if they've never played them before and
- 2:02Speaker 3: think they're gonna beat them. It's really hard to play
- 2:04Speaker 3: them because again, they know each other so well, they
- 2:07Speaker 3: move so well without the ball. Yeah, they're a tough
- 2:12Speaker 3: matchup for everybody. And you know, we're obviously we're playing
- 2:20Speaker 3: for a Biggiest championship and sharing a Biggiest Championship doesn't
- 2:25Speaker 3: really it doesn't really work. I don't think we've ever
- 2:30Speaker 3: pulled up a put up a banner at Gamble that
- 2:33Speaker 3: says co champions Night.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Just put years up and.
- 2:36Speaker 3: We're not going to put them up there. If anytime
- 2:38Speaker 3: there's we're co champions, that ain't going up that banner
- 2:42Speaker 3: ain't going up with a Gamble. Sorry, not gonna happen.
- 2:46Speaker 2: All right, Well, that'll be a six to thirty broadcast,
- 2:48Speaker 2: seven o'clock game. DEVI and I will have the course
- 2:50Speaker 2: on the on the radio. Tough I'm not gonna say
- 2:54Speaker 2: tough week, sad week, because the relationship's over with SNY
- 2:58Speaker 2: this season and for thirteen years, they went above and
- 3:01Speaker 2: beyond what anybody could have ever expected with the coverage
- 3:04Speaker 2: of your team, not just the games, but the pre
- 3:07Speaker 2: and post game programming on game days, the gene Orima Show,
- 3:11Speaker 2: how that's evolved over the years between just interviews with
- 3:15Speaker 2: you and maybe a player, to interviews with you other players,
- 3:18Speaker 2: and how they would tell the game stories. I know
- 3:20Speaker 2: they used a lot of our audio thanks to Joe
- 3:22Speaker 2: Krause for that. And then what they did this year
- 3:25Speaker 2: with your fortyieth anniversary celebration with you and CD and
- 3:28Speaker 2: breaking the all time wins record and seeing everything kind
- 3:31Speaker 2: of put together and honoring everybody. I know your wife
- 3:34Speaker 2: was a big part of some of those episodes, but
- 3:37Speaker 2: just the relationship that you've had with them, it's pretty special.
- 3:40Speaker 2: And we move on to different things because of what
- 3:43Speaker 2: the Big East has done, But I don't think it
- 3:46Speaker 2: can be stated enough with the way they have handled
- 3:48Speaker 2: the coverage, because it's been extraordinary for your basketball program.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I remember when we were with CPTV, right, yep,
- 4:03Speaker 3: and everybody thought that that was the greatest thing that
- 4:07Speaker 3: ever happened to Ucome women's basketball, and it actually was
- 4:12Speaker 3: because we were the only school in America that had
- 4:16Speaker 3: their own TV station, right, and they they televised every
- 4:23Speaker 3: game and they treated it like it was the most
- 4:27Speaker 3: important thing in the world. Today, we have Mike Gorman
- 4:30Speaker 3: during the play by play early on. Yeah, I mean,
- 4:33Speaker 3: he's a Hall of Fame broadcaster. We just retired from
- 4:37Speaker 3: doing the Celtics.
- 4:38Speaker 2: For thirty years, so remember him on Saturday nights with
- 4:40Speaker 2: him and Rafts.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Yeah, So we had Mike Gorman, right, and and then
- 4:46Speaker 3: when when sny came on board and took the games
- 4:53Speaker 3: from CPTV. There was a huge uproar about, oh my god,
- 4:57Speaker 3: you know, we're not gonna be able to watch them,
- 5:00Speaker 3: going to charge us to watch it? Well, you know, yeah,
- 5:04Speaker 3: typical New England stuff, right, anything new can't possibly be
- 5:09Speaker 3: good as our old stuff, you know. And eventually they
- 5:17Speaker 3: people started to understand that we went from a mom
- 5:20Speaker 3: and pop operation to the major leagues because SNY treated
- 5:26Speaker 3: us the way they treat the Mets.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:29Speaker 3: So we had a pregame show, a halftime show, a
- 5:32Speaker 3: postgame show, and the quality of the production and everything
- 5:37Speaker 3: that was going on. There's no other school in America
- 5:41Speaker 3: that gets treated well from their TV partner like you're
- 5:46Speaker 3: a major league franchise. It's just's we had something that
- 5:51Speaker 3: was totally unique. No one else in America had what
- 5:54Speaker 3: we at. So to lose that is really bittersweet for
- 5:59Speaker 3: me personally and from my program. Uh and that's part
- 6:03Speaker 3: of the world not thrilled about it. Believe me, I don't.
- 6:06Speaker 3: I don't like it one iota. And now all the
- 6:10Speaker 3: games are going to be on what Fox, maybe Peacock,
- 6:14Speaker 3: maybe TNT, but you're not going to have the same
- 6:20Speaker 3: level of buy in, you know, where the same crew,
- 6:25Speaker 3: the same halftime, pre game, post game, all that stuff.
- 6:30Speaker 3: So we're losing all that and I understand why, but
- 6:37Speaker 3: I don't.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Like it right well, And I as I mentioned going
- 6:41Speaker 2: off here on Saturday, I mean they've helped us kind
- 6:45Speaker 2: of a quiet partnership. I mean Joe Krause asking me
- 6:49Speaker 2: for highlights to use during your show, what they did
- 6:53Speaker 2: for us during COVID with remote broadcast. Mark Gutman is
- 6:56Speaker 2: the gentleman that works in master Control. We've had to
- 6:59Speaker 2: deal with lt IN Productions out of Baltimore giving us
- 7:01Speaker 2: picture in sound from game sites while we're doing games
- 7:04Speaker 2: in the studio to make it sound like we were there.
- 7:07Speaker 2: So those are the little things that I appreciate. And yeah,
- 7:11Speaker 2: they were a great partnership and hope we all enjoyed it.
- 7:14Speaker 2: But remember we're still here. We're still here too, Radio
- 7:17Speaker 2: DEMONI are still hanging out, so you can always tune in.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Hey, when I started, we were on WHUS.
- 7:22Speaker 1: That's right in the Fieldhouse.
- 7:24Speaker 3: In the Fieldhouse, and there was some kid who was
- 7:27Speaker 3: going to school there sitting there broadcasting our games. And
- 7:36Speaker 3: we come a long way, obviously since then, from that
- 7:40Speaker 3: to our very first game at the Excel Center was
- 7:47Speaker 3: a pre limb doubleheader to one of our men's games
- 7:52Speaker 3: at the Excel Center. We played at I want to
- 7:54Speaker 3: say four thirty or five and the men played at
- 7:58Speaker 3: seven or seven point thirty. And other than the parents
- 8:02Speaker 3: and the people with those yellow jackets doing security, there
- 8:07Speaker 3: was absolutely positively no one in a sixteen thousand seed arena.
- 8:12Speaker 3: No one.
- 8:12Speaker 1: And you've sold out every home just about every home
- 8:14Speaker 1: game this year.
- 8:14Speaker 3: You sold out every single home game. It's pretty remarkable.
- 8:17Speaker 1: It sure is morwith Gino.
- 8:19Speaker 2: I mean, you kind of women's basketball coaches show here
- 8:21Speaker 2: in a minute live from Cafe Ara on Learfield to
- 8:23Speaker 2: stay with us
