- 0:00SPEAKER_01: I'm having a hard time with something, okay?
- 0:02SPEAKER_01: And I need a little bit of help figuring this one out here.
- 0:04SPEAKER_01: So I I'm a person that believes very much that uh you know you have different stages in your life as far as things that you do.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: Uh for example, if I'm 16 years old uh and I'm getting my first job, there's a real likelihood that it's probably gonna be something like in my case.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: I worked for Burger King when I was a young, you know, kid.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: Uh or maybe I also worked for Value Home Center back years ago in Buffalo.
- 0:29SPEAKER_02: Um and my first ones, I was working at a convenient food mart, but and like I was cashier and food.
- 0:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 0:35SPEAKER_02: And then I also worked at JCPenney's.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so you kind of have these jobs.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: I knew this was not my career path, but these are things I'm like, A, wanted some money, B, needed to get some work experience, got me out.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: I felt like kind of built to who you are.
- 0:48SPEAKER_02: Like it's like uh one of those those really foundational building blocks.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: You know, it just I know some people have to work in in those industries for different reasons, and that's okay too.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: I'm having a problem though.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: I I am I'm not in favor of promoting bad behavior.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: And I want to play this for you because this this woman went viral who used to work fast food, and she's claiming this, and I'm really on a struggle with this.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: I know these people don't make a fortune, don't get me wrong.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but that's also kind of the definition of a part-time fast food job.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: I'm not in it for the you know, to pay the rent.
- 1:24SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: I mean, I might be in it.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, depending on where like let's say if I'm a teenager, like you explained, first job.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: Then I'm working afternoons, evenings, and yeah, I'm just there for like four or five, six hours.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: Right, I'm doing it to get some extra money.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: But here, listen to this woman.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: If I'm going and getting fast food, I had better be getting horrible service.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Because what do you mean you're making$14 an hour and you have to smile and be bubbly?
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: I think not.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: I'll take my s I'll take my fries with a side of salt.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: You are not getting paid enough for this, sis.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Okay?
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Untuck your shirt.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: Okay, untuck your shirt until they pay you over$20 an hour.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Because McDonald's, it is not worth it.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: It is not worth it.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Coming from someone who worked in fast food, give me the worst service of all time.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: Can I just tell you though, I hate the fact that she starts by by coming out with you're getting$14 an hour.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: Do you know when I started?
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: Okay, I know it was a long time ago.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: Back your mind.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: I think it was$3.25 an hour, was minimum wage.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: My minimum wage was$575 and then it was I think it went to seven something.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: But here's where I disagree with this.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: Okay, I really want to hear this because I really don't agree with that woman.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: Because if you never know who you're gonna run into at work.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: So what if the corning CEO comes through for a good old frying coke?
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: You know, everybody likes a good Big Mac from time to time.
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: Totally.
- 2:47SPEAKER_02: And if you are giving off an impression of being just a personable person and you've got your shirt tucked in, then they might say, you know what?
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: I think you'd be perfect for whatever job I have.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: Especially if you project yourself well and you're you're kind.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: And I mean, listen, everybody gets bad days.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: I understand that, or situations can come up that can create you to have a a bad moment, you know.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: But those were things I learned young was how to try to tie to how to try to deal with that and yet deal with a customer at the same time and not let it out on them.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: And well, yeah, because you're representing the company too.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: Well, and yourself, like you said.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: But the thing about it is, how entitled do you sound?
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: You are making$14 an hour.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: Um that's pretty good.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: And then don't be nice until you're over$20 an hour, and then you know what the complaint's gonna be.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: Well, why is my Big Mac so expensive?
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: Well, how do you expect them to pay the employees?
- 3:46SPEAKER_02: I also just want to treat people how they treat me.
- 3:49SPEAKER_02: And if I have a negative person at the window, then I I just don't feel like I didn't deserve it.
- 3:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I just I don't deserve this.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: I'm just here because I'm trying to give this company money.
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: I'm not saying you're making a lot of money, but don't be rude to me.
- 4:05SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 4:06SPEAKER_02: Don't don't slob it.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: I totally disagree with her.
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: And overall, if I have uh, and I'm not gonna maybe always have the best attitude, but if I kind of I always do a fake it till you make it kind of sometimes it gets me through a day.
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, do I have a day where things suck, or you know, you might be a little down the dumps, depressed, whatever.
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: But if I can just trudge through, for some reason I can see over the hill.
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: Maybe not everybody's like that.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: No, I know, no, and probably not.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: And that's fine.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: But for those two reasons, you never know who you're gonna run into, and also you're representing the company, but then So we both agree.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: Her advice is pretty terrible.
- 4:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it it is.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: I used to have a boss at I worked for an Italian restaurant and I was a bartender and and server there, and he would say, Check your personal life at the door.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: These people are here because they might need this meal because they're celebrating something.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: They need happiness in their life, whatever.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: So check it for four hours and then go back to it.
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: It doesn't mean you can't go back to being down in the dumps.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: I just need you to check it for this little time.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: Okay.
