- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. We are going to do a mirror
- 0:32exercise today. I know that may saying like, oh
- 0:34God, what is she going to have us do?
- 0:36However, this is an interesting exercise if you've never seen
- 0:40this before. I most people don't do it, so
- 0:45we'll see. OK it's an old school one that I
- 0:48heard many, many years ago. I've never forgotten it and I do
- 0:50it often and I don't know why I've never brought it up before,
- 0:53but this morning I did this and I was like, OK, let me share.
- 0:58So basically when you walk in and you look at yourself in the
- 1:01mirror, there are a couple things that typically happen.
- 1:05You look at yourself quickly because you don't like what you
- 1:08see. Or you go, oh geez, my hair is a
- 1:11mess or oh God, my wrinkles, I've got bags.
- 1:15And the whole time you're looking at yourself in the
- 1:17mirror, you're being super critical.
- 1:19Like you're really picking yourself apart.
- 1:22That's what most of us do. I'm not saying everybody does
- 1:25this, but that was that's what most of us do, especially women.
- 1:30We are very good at doing that. Like that is hands down a woman
- 1:33thing we do. A lot of guys go in and they
- 1:36look at themselves. And if anybody remembers the
- 1:38movie Notting Hill, in the scene where the reporters are all
- 1:43outside the the flat and inside, Julia Roberts is hiding, and it
- 1:50is Hugh Grant's roommate that stands there.
- 1:53And he's like, oh, they're out front, He tells him.
- 1:55And before he goes back outside, he's in the mirror looking at
- 1:59himself. His hair is a mess.
- 2:01He looks terrible. He's got on tighty whities and
- 2:04they're dirty. And he looks in the mirror and
- 2:07he goes not bad, not bad at all. He just walks out like that to
- 2:13everybody. And I think his name was Spike
- 2:16in the in the movie. But in any event, which is
- 2:19hysterical because he's looking at himself and he's a mess and
- 2:21he doesn't even think about it. But that tends to be the male
- 2:25persuasion of our species does that.
- 2:28And the women tend to be more critical.
- 2:31But the mirror exercise is interesting because even during
- 2:34that time, if you're, if you're standing there and you're
- 2:37realizing what am I saying to myself energetically in that
- 2:40moment, you might not be saying these things out loud, but
- 2:43you're being super critical of yourself and you don't ever have
- 2:47that look that says I'm going to care for this person.
- 2:51I'm looking the eyes or the windows of the soul.
- 2:53We've all heard that. So here we are using our eyes to
- 2:56be super critical and say something and it and it just
- 2:59sucks. Like let's just face it, it
- 3:01sucks. So A twist on this is to stand
- 3:06in the mirror and look at yourself and don't say a word
- 3:09and don't smile or anything and just look and try to be neutral
- 3:12and then actually smile. Just stand there and smile at
- 3:17yourself and you can feel the energy shift.
- 3:22Now granted, you may still see lines, you may still see Gray
- 3:25hair, you may still look a mess from whatever your opinion is.
- 3:31But when you smile, something happens and you you feel
- 3:36different. You just feel differently
- 3:37energized. Then you stop and you go back to
- 3:40not smiling. And then you make yourself look
- 3:42sad, like actually look sad and feel the difference.
- 3:45Feel how there's a there's a look.
- 3:48Then you can practice making all different kinds of looks.
- 3:51Snarky looks like puzzled looks, curious looks, and you see how
- 3:56you actually appear in all these different views of yourself.
- 4:02And I guarantee you at the end of the exercise, you feel so
- 4:07different because one, you've seen how you look to other
- 4:11people when you're being a certain way.
- 4:13So if you have what you would consider that, you know, I, I
- 4:16heard had a client the other day, which is always interesting
- 4:19when someone says it's me, I have resting bitch face and I'm
- 4:21like, no, you don't have resting bitch face.
- 4:24And so she took a picture of herself to send it to me.
- 4:27And I was like, but you have control over what you see in
- 4:30this. You can actually start to think
- 4:33to yourself that you are happy. You've been telling yourself you
- 4:36have this for how long? And she said years.
- 4:38And I said, OK, so you've basically created that.
- 4:41So breaking that down is important.
- 4:44And you can do that by thinking to yourself, OK, I'm going to
- 4:47smile. Many years ago, when I was very
- 4:52much in the first, you know, years of life with my husband,
- 4:56he said to me, sometimes you get so focused when you walk in the
- 4:59room it you look so serious. And I was like, I do because in
- 5:04my head I wasn't being serious. It was just I was busy in my
- 5:07head and he's like, it would be great if you walked in and you
- 5:10just smiled at me. And I never forgot that.
- 5:13So when I see him, I conditioned myself to smile.
- 5:17Now, not every time because there are times when he pisses
- 5:19me off. My friends, however, the
- 5:22majority of the time, I really work on doing that because when
- 5:25you smile at someone, someone smiles at you.
- 5:28So we're going to practice this mirror exercise.
- 5:30So I'm going to encourage you to go do this and see what you
- 5:34learn, see how you feel and truly dive into it because it
- 5:38will make you feel different. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:41you have a blessed day and I'll see you tomorrow.
- 5:43Bye.
