- Jaba: Hello everybody and welcome back to the Scout and the Speculator Podcast. This is Will Jarvis, also known as Jabba Cards, joined by Jeremy Brown of Perfect Game Baseball, more importantly known as JGB underscore cards underscore. We really leaned into the Scout thing yesterday, but now Jeremy is fully back in JGB card mode. And we're gonna record a couple today. We're gonna do a episode on some snipes and buys we've had recently. But before we do that, we are doing our daily AFL recap. A lot of runs scored yesterday. Whole lot of runs scored, not a ton of homers, Jheremy: Mm-hmm. Jaba: some big pitchers got blown up pretty bad. Jheremy: Yeah. Jaba: a few other pitchers pitched well. Jeremy, I'll let you kick it off with the first game here. Jheremy: We kinda had the hit the nail on the head there with the lead in of the pitchers because I we're we're a Briggs McKenzie family and podcast here and he let up seven earned on eight runs over two and two thirds, three punches, two two hawks. So he one good outing, one bad outing. That's baseball for you. We're gonna kinda wash it, flush it, forget about it. Hopefully it doesn't impact him too much. Again, it's AFL Just like spring training, maybe he's working on something. That's what I'm gonna tell myself right now is they want him doing something. Just whether it's different grips of a pitch working on sequencing something. I'm just gonna go with that in my head, wash it otherwise. offensively, Jaba: Yeah. Works right. Jheremy: I mean, God, the desert dogs we would have thought would have ran the table and possibly gone undefeated on the year. They lost again. And I mean they scored nine runs on ten hits. Also had three errors. Davilon had an Ofer. Colby Shelton doesn't have autos. He's struggling. Jaba: He's really he's really struggling. Jheremy: He's he's at an 071. Again, batting average is by no means is what we're doing here, but just on the face of it, 071 average. Jaba: This early, yeah, it's helpful. Jheremy: It's 493 on base percentage OPS rather. Did get a walk, so got on base. Colby Shelton, color only, no autos. Caleb Bonimer, he is continuing to swing it well. Another hit picked up an RBI. That hit coming in the form of a triple. I believe that's his second triple of the year already. first triple, sorry. Only Braylon Payne has two in the AFL. But you're there. Chase Harlan. I want to say he's trying to figure it out. He he didn't get any more hits, but that home run that you had sent me, that pipeline put out, was like holy shit, type bat speed. Dylan Lewis, two hits. Good for him. Did strike out a pair. Eduardo Quintero again. Saw some clips of him. That bat speed is still just very, very silly. Dodger prospect, top of the class type tools. We like all of that. Owen Carey had a multi hit game, which is good to see, Jaba: Yeah, nice to Jheremy: right? And Isaiah Drake actually coming off the bench had another hit up to 286. Owen Carey at 300 average. It's good to see Owen Carey too, because he kind of struggled on that promotion to double A. kind of like Hartman. We didn't see the power quite like we saw at Rome, which is very much a hitter's ballpark. and then Carter Johnson played short. punched a pair, had a hit, RBI, walked. flip it over, and we got full stat sheets on the Salt River Salt River Rafters. Kyle DeBarge, three for five day. three three RBIs. I was playing around with some stats. He leads the AFL in caught stealings as well. So little fun fact to tell your Starbucks barista tomorrow. Our favorite Demetro Cr Cresantes had a four for five day. All he does is hit. We looked at his prices right before this. Base auto ten just did one fifty. Last two base autos did fifty and I what I say, thirty five, forty bucks. So like Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: they're definitely on the rise. He might not be a name that's gonna catch on, maybe on whatnot. You could find him cheap if you're able to find any twenty three draft stuff kind of hanging around. But we've been saying his name. I know he's somebody we've brought up For quite a while because I went and had to count how many base autos I do have stashed. With that floor now creeping well above that $30 mark, if you can find him cheaper than that, I'd grab a couple because he's hitting 471 on the year with a 1206 OPS. let's see who else we got. Andy Perez, he's an older Bowman name, had a three-hit game. Jared Thomas hit a home run yesterday, which is good to see because he was struggling. Got the average up to 250, two for five, two RBI, did punch out twice. But I think that's kind of you know what you're getting with him at this point, where it's gonna be left-handed juice and there's gonna be some swing and ri swing and miss concern. that's more or less it from the Bowman standpoint here, just kind of looking up and down for this game. So no. If I'd I'd be selling myself short if we didn't quite talk about Patrick Forbes, who went two and two thirds, struck out a pair. I think that's his f debut, right? Is that is that the first time he's thrown, I believe, in the AFL, so. Jaba: Yeah. 'Cause the the ERA of three thirty eight would match up with the with the line. Jheremy: Lines right up. Yeah. Yeah, I mean Go Eagles. Jaba: John West, former Boston College Eagle, gave up two runs. Go Eagles, and I would be remiss if I didn't mention Jared Thomas. He was a University of Texas Longhorn, right? We got the Jheremy: Welcome. Jaba: Red River rivalry today. I have a few close friends who are Oklahoma alums, so I want to deliver a a hearty horns down. Go Sooners. Jheremy: Hm. Boomer sooner, baby. Jaba: Yep, that's that's football talk with Jabba and J G B. going right into the we're sorry, were you done? Jheremy: yeah. I was just gonna say like I think the big winner of this game or is the like the Bowman star of the night's just Demetrio Cresantes again. He hit her set and he continues to just smash baseballs. Jaba: Yeah. Hitting four seventy-one. I mean, again, we're not really looking at batting average here, but if you're almost batting five hundred, yeah, it's like six games. But that's notable. Jheremy: Yeah. Yep. Jaba: Segueros and Javelinas. I'll start with the guy that we're kinda obsessed with right now and most people in the baseball card world are Angebal Gomez. he had a bad day the other day. I think he was O for four, O for three or O for four. Came back in this one, notched a pair of singles, two for four effort. just a nice day for him. not really shown any pop yet. But, you know, he's hitting two seventy three. He's holding his own. You know, from what I can see, it doesn't look like he's, you know, sticking out like a sore thumb despite being seventeen with only DSL experience under his belt. Sebastian Walcott did what you would expect. Two for four. doubled. You know, he he he's just I don't wanna say anyone's too good for the AFL, but if anyone was, he would probably be the guy there right now. Aiden Meller stayed hot. He's hitting five hundred with a fifteen hundred OPS. Two for three, he doubled and tripled. so he's just, you know, stuffing the box score every day. It's good to see him. I mean, we even said in our preview, the the performance is really not a question with him. He's never had a pro OPS under eight hundred. You know, if if he's healthy, if that back's okay, he's a really good player. And even though I am a hater of the Phillies, I do think that he's a awesome prospect and you know, really the only concern in that profile in my eyes is the bad back. because when it comes to baseball, he's very, very good at it. pitchers, Jheremy: Yeah. Jaba: Calvin Ziegler, Mets guy from twenty one draft, got rocked. I know his first performance he put up a clean inning yesterday, not so good. Threw a third of an inning, didn't allow a hit, but he walked three guys. all three came in to score when he got yanked. Just, you know, not good. Walks have been the problem with him. Frank Mazakato though through another clean inning, no walks, one K allowed a hit. you Jheremy: Take it. Jaba: know, again, a guy who got drafted five years ago. But, you know, you kind of feel for the guy I want to see him do well. On the other pitcher mound, we had Taka Robee making his first start in over a year, and he was insane. three innings, hitless innings, one walk, six K's. he was lights out. Everything I saw on Twitter was kind of raving about It was like a lot of Cardinals accounts, so, you know, take it for what it's worth. But it sounds like he was phenomenal. So there's there's some life there. Over to the Javalinas lineup. They manufactured ten runs off six hits. Probably helps that they drew nine walks. Let's see here. Yeah, Ty Pete had probably his worst game of the AFL. He only went one for three with two walks. you know, he he's a guy who's just been completely on fire. Vance Honeycutt stayed hot. Even though he went 0 for two, he walked three times, which is good to see for him. He did strike out twice. OPS still over fifteen hundred. I saw going into yesterday, he'd only whiffed on one pitch in the zone, which is kind of his you know, major red flag. So again, small sample, but nice there. Not a lot of Bowman guys playing yesterday though. Ty Harvey had a solid day, one for four, scored a pair of runs, drew a walk. OPSing four sixty six, so not great, but as far as Bowman guys go, pretty quiet day in this one. Jheremy: Yeah. Yeah, couple non Bowman guy or non Bowman auto guys, like Carlos Sanchez is a name for the Reds. I've kind of had some buzz around him. color only guy. Vance Honeycutt, no Bowman at all. He just I I know again it's a short sample size with everything he's doing, but he's leading the AFL in walks right now with eight of He's got a six six eleven on base percentage, which is huge for him, with only three strikeouts, three hits, two of are two Two of his three hits are home runs, so he's got an inflated OPS. But like that's a really good sign I think for him, whether we see his Bowman ever or not, I don't know. But just wanted to kind of throw that out there. Like the swing and miss has always been the concern with him, even at UNC. And to see him kind of Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: cut that down and take those walks is I I think it's great in terms of if you're an O'Reilly's fan, you love to see it. So and Jaba: Yeah, 'cause I mean he he was a household name even for people like myself. Like I Jheremy: Mm-hmm. Jaba: obviously you know who all these guys are way before they even get to college. But I Jheremy: Right. Jaba: I mean for for myself, I obviously am obsessed with, you know, the major and minor leagues. College baseball, not so much, but like when he was at UNC, he was like one of those names where it's like, you know, this is a potential one one guy. He's got, you know, crazy glove, he's got real power, he's got real speed, and then I mean I forget where where'd he go in? Like the twenties to the Orioles? I think Jheremy: Correct. Yep. Jaba: even Even then people were kinda like, Yeah but Jheremy: No doubt. Jaba: yeah, I think he's a pretty well known name and you know, nice to see him coming into his own. I think people were starting. Jheremy: And if you have if you have any twenty one draft, I'd go dust it off and look for Takola Roby. it's never been a question of like performance or stuff. It's always again been health. And he is if he can maintain this, yes, he's older, but the stuff is very good. I've liked him since he was in high school, just in terms of pure stuff. I'm actually as I talk right now and just looking at what's on eBay just to see. Because somebody just binned a seventy one for like twenty dollars, so Jaba: And he he was up to triple A in twenty twenty five. He o he only made six starts there, but he was Jheremy: Mm-hmm. We know Cardinals fans buy like Jaba: perfectly solid there. and he also just turned twenty five, so it's not like a River Ryan situation. Obviously being twenty Jheremy: No, but Jaba: five caps the upside pretty pretty hard. Jheremy: Right. Jaba: But I mean Nolan McLean just turned twenty five. I'm not comparing him to Nolan McLean who now has like a year and a half of, you know, two starter numbers under his belt. But you know, twenty five isn't necessarily like a death sentence for pitchers. If he was a hitter he'd be he'd be dead. Jheremy: No doubt. We'll talk about dusting off the white boxes. Antonio Anderson from twenty four Bowman draft. I'm gonna jump into our third game last night between the solar so say what? Jaba: Red Sox, right? He's a Red Sox guy? Jheremy: Yeah, Red Sox guy. switch hitter Prep out of Georgia signed up for over a million, I think, in the second round. SolarSox versus Scorpions. He hit another home run last night. I don't I d probably shouldn't say another. It was his first. But he hit a home run, had four RBIs. He's hitting three seventy five. Like switch hitting middle infield profile with the Red Sox, where you could probably go buy his base auto for less than a cake pop at Starbucks. Probably not bad to have him if you see him, go grab Argent. Had a one-hit game, punched again, had a 238 batting average on the thing. He's gonna have his moments. He's gonna be up, he's gonna be down, but at the end of the day, he's still a very solid prospect. Somebody to continue to monitor as close as you can. Nazan Zanatello, another Red Sock. He's a 23 draft. had a knock, a couple K's. Bracan Guaidez down to 133 average. Had a strikeout. We kind of knew this could very well be an outcome for him being younger, having the swing concerns this year already in A ball. just kinda waiting for that moment, let him get acclimated to it, let get used to it and just let what is he, eighteen years old, like give some time. So Jaba: Yeah. Yeah, I see this as kind of a free pass. Obviously you'd like him Jheremy: Yeah. Jaba: to do well, but if he's overwhelmed it's nothing. And before you move on, Antonio Anderson, his base is doing seven dollars. and that that's with Jheremy: Right. Okay, so two cake pops. Jaba: I mean the last two starts or sales yesterday were both it was eight and ten. Three before that were all five fifty and below. So couple cake pops. Jheremy: Okay, so there there is slight movement there already. Which like that's just people cleaning up the floor. Whenever anything happens like this, or you see a tweet of a kid, like Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: everyone naturally is gonna go to eBay and just try to scoop the floor. Like how Jaba: Grab like the two cheap ones up, yeah. Jheremy: like how cheap can you get it, right? So Jake Cook, two runs, had a hit, two three sixty four average, punched twice. Older guy, we've talked about him kind of already enough, so he is Jaba: Nice to see I'm playing well though. Jheremy: So what? Yeah. And and he's tied for the league lead with five swipes too. So for what it's worth, five hundred on base percentage. Has stolen five bags. Great. flip it over. Scottsdale. Jet Williams, one hit, punch out, not really doing all that much right now. Zaire Hope, two hits. Like to see that from him. Dakota Jordan had a home run for RBIs as a part of a two hit performance. That home run coming in the form of an inside. The Parker hit it the other way. got to show off some of the tools, some of the strength. Our boy Neymar Ochoa, another two-hit game. We've we've talked about him every time. He's got that average up over the 300 mark right now. So somebody that if you can find him, I'd go grab a couple. Kind of going up and down, you got the older guys, Wayne Luciano, Matthew Wood. not a whole lot to show. Matthew Wood had four walks. So that's pretty cool for on base percentage. And Caden Kent had a two-hit game down at the bottom. Had had a pair of punches. 429 average on the year. one of those two hits was a double. So Caden Kent. Welcome to the AFL. Checking on some pitching. Not a whole lot of anything really jumps out to me here with the pitching in terms of Bowman. So is that TJ Nichols? Jaba: Yeah. Not much so. Jheremy: Had a hold? No, that wouldn't make sense, would it? TJ Nichols? No, not that team. No. Jaba: Not the not the guy to ask. You're the guy who would know. Jheremy: Yeah, I don't think that's him. I don't think he spells his last name with an H either. So that's it. We've done it. That's your Jaba: Alright. Jheremy: neck that's your last recap. Jaba: Yep, that's that's yesterday in the AFL. As always, thank you guys for listening. And we are gonna go right into recording the next one. So let's go Mets, let's go Desert Dogs. Time to turn this thing around. Talk to you guys.
