- 0:07Speaker 1: This is Kevin Sports Very Daily, bringing you the midweek
- 0:09Speaker 1: sports show here on one oh five point nine Radio Folkston.
- 0:18Speaker 1: On today's show, we have reports on local football, rugby, hockey, basketball.
- 0:24Speaker 1: I'll be telling you about my day at the Bexhill
- 0:27Speaker 1: Poppy Run, and we've got a roundup of the tourist
- 0:30Speaker 1: park run venues. And our special guest today will be
- 0:37Speaker 1: Joe Tolhurst from the South Kent Mind who'll be telling us,
- 0:40Speaker 1: amongst other things, all about how you can enter the
- 0:43Speaker 1: Mental lf Run, which is coming up on Sunday, December seventh.
- 0:53Speaker 1: In the meantime, I found this track from the archives
- 0:56Speaker 1: and I'm planning this one for a special reason, and
- 0:58Speaker 1: so sit back and enjoy it, and I'll tell you
- 1:00Speaker 1: why I'm playing this one. Straight after, I can see
- 1:03Speaker 1: the turner nut Bush City limits. I can see the
- 1:52Speaker 1: turn of their Nutbush City limits. And the reason I
- 1:55Speaker 1: played that is because a few years ago I heard
- 1:59Speaker 1: of a thing called tapathon and I wonder, what on
- 2:02Speaker 1: earth is a tapathon. I thought it'd be just like
- 2:05Speaker 1: people dancing for twenty four hours or something like that,
- 2:08Speaker 1: but I was totally wrong. And what it is, it's
- 2:11Speaker 1: the There's dance schools all around the country and they've
- 2:15Speaker 1: been given this CD of Nutbush City limits and a
- 2:20Speaker 1: dance to practice and the idea is that they will
- 2:23Speaker 1: all do it on the same days in the end
- 2:25Speaker 1: of November I think it is, and they want to
- 2:27Speaker 1: beat the Guiness Book of Records. They want to get
- 2:30Speaker 1: the most people tap dancing in England at the same time.
- 2:35Speaker 1: And in the last couple of years we've had the
- 2:37Speaker 1: KM dance group in that are performing at the Christmas
- 2:41Speaker 1: Lights actually, and I'm going to try and get them
- 2:43Speaker 1: in and I know what happened. If they do come in,
- 2:47Speaker 1: the girls will do a little impromptu rendition of the
- 2:50Speaker 1: Nutbush City Limits and we were try and get that
- 2:52Speaker 1: out on social media. So in the meantime, I'm joining
- 2:56Speaker 1: the studio by Joe Tolherds from South Kent Mine.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Hello Joe, how are you? keV Very well? Thanks? How
- 3:01Speaker 2: are you? Yeah good?
- 3:02Speaker 1: I'm fine, thanks sir, Joe. Looking forward to a little
- 3:04Speaker 1: break in sunshine. But okay, so we're going to talk about,
- 3:08Speaker 1: amongst other things, the Mental Wealth run. But it's been
- 3:12Speaker 1: it's been a really busy year for you. So just
- 3:14Speaker 1: let's recap what as the South Kate Mind fundraising team
- 3:18Speaker 1: have been up to this twenty twenty five.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Yeah, okav, thanks for having me on and like you said, yeah, busy,
- 3:23Speaker 3: busy year so far. We've had loads of events, loads
- 3:27Speaker 3: of new first time events and loads of repeats of
- 3:29Speaker 3: of what we've been up to.
- 3:31Speaker 2: We've we had the popular Pause for.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Mine sponsored dog walk in May in Hythe and that
- 3:37Speaker 3: was really great. That was a really great event because
- 3:38Speaker 3: we have an obviously really busy, popular dog walking community
- 3:43Speaker 3: down here, everyone walking along the seafront and the canal path.
- 3:47Speaker 3: So we organized a sponsored dog walk around the high
- 3:50Speaker 3: Canal Path in May.
- 3:52Speaker 2: So Hughes thanks everyone. He turned up. It was raining unfortunately,
- 3:55Speaker 2: so a couple.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Of doesn't always when you take your dog for a walk.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Yeah, became was used in the rain though. It was
- 4:01Speaker 3: a couple of soggy dogs afterwards. But it was all
- 4:03Speaker 3: fun and raising great funds for the charity.
- 4:07Speaker 1: So what was next? Thing? That was in May? So
- 4:08Speaker 1: we're moving up to August now you had a boot fair.
- 4:11Speaker 3: August we had a great boot fair in Hith, busiest
- 4:13Speaker 3: busiest of the season apparently. Big thank you to Channel
- 4:16Speaker 3: Rotary for supporting that one with their volunteers. Couldn't have
- 4:19Speaker 3: done it without you. It was a scorcher of a
- 4:21Speaker 3: day we had. We had hundreds of people setting up, pitching,
- 4:26Speaker 3: flogging their wares and raise a great total again for
- 4:31Speaker 3: South can Mind. So big thank you to everyone who
- 4:33Speaker 3: turned up.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Right, So that was good. And then well, the next
- 4:38Speaker 1: one I've got on the list is a Buckster Movers.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Yeah that was a good definitely, Yeah you turned up
- 4:42Speaker 3: to a few of those and yes, yes to see
- 4:44Speaker 3: the guys. It was a It was a Bucks and
- 4:46Speaker 3: Movers was a twelve week running program that we did
- 4:49Speaker 3: in collaboration with National Mind and Buxton Water. You recognized
- 4:53Speaker 3: Bust and Water to have a relationship with with National Mind.
- 4:55Speaker 3: You see the National Mind logo on the water bottles
- 4:59Speaker 3: and so actually what it was was a couch to
- 5:01Speaker 3: five k group along the les every Monday, which we
- 5:05Speaker 3: did in collaboration with the Folks and Running Club. So
- 5:07Speaker 3: big thank you to all the volunteers and all the
- 5:09Speaker 3: coaches who helped out, in particular Cathnella O'Connor who helped
- 5:12Speaker 3: out almost every week.
- 5:15Speaker 2: And yeah, great.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Turnout, and yeah, it was a great twelve week program
- 5:20Speaker 3: where people who are new to running or had a
- 5:22Speaker 3: bit of experience turned up and then by the end
- 5:24Speaker 3: of the twelve weeks were you know, knocking out pretty good,
- 5:27Speaker 3: pretty good five k times.
- 5:28Speaker 2: So yeah, that was a great little I must.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Ask you though, Joe, did did any of them carry on?
- 5:32Speaker 1: Because sometimes you can sort of peek at your five
- 5:36Speaker 1: k and you think, like, we're do I go from here? Yeah,
- 5:38Speaker 1: you know, if any of them carried on, yeah.
- 5:39Speaker 3: We do. Actually, we know that a couple of a
- 5:40Speaker 3: couple of guys who came along to that group are
- 5:42Speaker 3: actually now doing the Park one every week, so still
- 5:44Speaker 3: taking along with five k. So yeah, a great little
- 5:47Speaker 3: crossover there. The guys from the folks In Running Club
- 5:50Speaker 3: were really helpful and encouraging to you know, encourage the
- 5:53Speaker 3: group to pop along every Saturday morning and join Park Run,
- 5:56Speaker 3: which is you know, as you know, a great local,
- 5:59Speaker 3: great local event.
- 6:00Speaker 1: No, that's brilliant. This's every Saturday morning. If you didn't
- 6:02Speaker 1: know that, put to the lees, it's just got bigger
- 6:06Speaker 1: and bigger. I think last week they had about four
- 6:08Speaker 1: hundred and fifty. I'll be talking about that later. So
- 6:12Speaker 1: that's nice to know, actually, because sometimes you can kind
- 6:15Speaker 1: of peek at your five k and you think where
- 6:17Speaker 1: do I go? So part round was perfect, wasn't it.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, what we've.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Got next, We've got Oh they did them. This was
- 6:24Speaker 1: interesting the virtual ten miler tell us about that.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Yeah, so that was in aid of South Kent Mind.
- 6:30Speaker 3: So the again a good bit of collaboration we did
- 6:32Speaker 3: with the running club. So the running club run their
- 6:35Speaker 3: ten miler and then they run a virtual ten miler
- 6:38Speaker 3: for all the all the members of the running club
- 6:40Speaker 3: and they did that in aid of South Kent Mine.
- 6:42Speaker 3: So yeah, raised about six hundred and ten pounds for
- 6:45Speaker 3: the charity, which was really grateful love, so big thank
- 6:47Speaker 3: you to everyone who helped out with that one. Sonya
- 6:49Speaker 3: mark Well and Julia Gibb. Julie Gibbs were really helpful
- 6:53Speaker 3: with that one. And yeah, that's just a bit of
- 6:56Speaker 3: the collaboration with the running club again again the half
- 7:01Speaker 3: marathon at the end of the month, that was we
- 7:04Speaker 3: had a great team put together for that, all in
- 7:05Speaker 3: native South Kent mind that they ran they represented the
- 7:09Speaker 3: charity so well, raised a great total for the charity.
- 7:12Speaker 3: So big thank you to Tom, Maria, Julie Rowan and
- 7:16Speaker 3: truly who are part of the team.
- 7:18Speaker 1: That was a good morning that.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Yeah, great morning.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Big thanks you Kevin for the showers out for the charity,
- 7:22Speaker 3: and Ray Johnson for organizing such a great event.
- 7:25Speaker 1: That was a good one. And you know, I don't
- 7:27Speaker 1: know if you know this, but the virtual ten Miler.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Do you know how that came about? Well, I tell you,
- 7:33Speaker 1: I do believe that they had some medals left over,
- 7:37Speaker 1: and they had a glove of medals and someone thought
- 7:39Speaker 1: what we're going to do with them? They either had
- 7:41Speaker 1: had a year on them or the band had a
- 7:43Speaker 1: year on them, so basically they're no good for twenty
- 7:46Speaker 1: twenty six. Course, So it was the brainchild of Sonya,
- 7:49Speaker 1: I do believe, and she said, well, let's do a
- 7:52Speaker 1: virtual ten miler and raised some money for a chosen charity.
- 7:57Speaker 1: But the charity, to be fair, came out on top
- 8:00Speaker 1: because there was a vote. There was two or three charities,
- 8:03Speaker 1: and you come out on top. So that's how it
- 8:06Speaker 1: all came about, just a simple little thing like that,
- 8:09Speaker 1: having a few medals left over, and you may I
- 8:11Speaker 1: was there that night of the presentation actually, and it
- 8:13Speaker 1: was really really really it was really powerful stuff. You know,
- 8:17Speaker 1: it was so simple and everyone was so pleased with Sonya.
- 8:21Speaker 1: So yeah, as you said, we did the Folks and
- 8:23Speaker 1: half marathon. That was a great day and it was
- 8:25Speaker 1: a really cracking event actually, and yeah it was. It's
- 8:29Speaker 1: good that the team got together and represented the South
- 8:33Speaker 1: Kate mind. Yeah, so what else have we got? You've
- 8:36Speaker 1: got paused for minding Deal Now that sounds familiar. But
- 8:40Speaker 1: in Deal do you go over to Deal to Yeah?
- 8:41Speaker 3: So our area is all the way from Dealer Sandwich
- 8:45Speaker 3: all the way down to Dungeoness. So we try and
- 8:46Speaker 3: get out and do as many events across our patches possible.
- 8:49Speaker 2: One of which was yeah poors and my sponsored dog walk.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Which I previously mentioned we did in Hives, we did
- 8:54Speaker 3: it in Deal so along the promenade. Great turnout, something
- 8:57Speaker 3: that will grow again for next year. Was it raining
- 9:00Speaker 3: It wasn't raining, It wasn't raining, but you know, loads dogs,
- 9:03Speaker 3: loads dogs about and yeah, raised a great total for
- 9:06Speaker 3: South Kate might a big thank you to everyone who
- 9:08Speaker 3: popped long and donated.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Great and in numbers wise, was the folks who went
- 9:12Speaker 1: bigger or the deal one bigger?
- 9:14Speaker 3: I think I think the High One had a few
- 9:16Speaker 3: more dogs there. Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely, But you know,
- 9:19Speaker 3: we do a lot of dog and dog running events
- 9:22Speaker 3: and everything. But in September we also had a fire
- 9:25Speaker 3: walk which is really popular. Oh yes, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 9:28Speaker 3: so it's just a big hype about fundraiser for the year.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Yeah great, and I mean how many went in for that?
- 9:35Speaker 3: We had about forty people walk the coals, including a
- 9:38Speaker 3: couple of local councilors. Yeah, guys who support the charity. Yeah,
- 9:44Speaker 3: it's really good turnout. We had a professional company do it,
- 9:48Speaker 3: so it wasn't just us this with that made it
- 9:50Speaker 3: making a fire but yeah, it was.
- 9:52Speaker 2: It was a great event.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Big thank you to Three Hills for hosting. And yeah,
- 9:57Speaker 3: great fundraiser for South Kate mind brilliant.
- 10:00Speaker 1: So now the last one I've got down on the list,
- 10:03Speaker 1: which I don't know much about, actually, the fend. Will
- 10:05Speaker 1: you tell us about it? The fandom.
- 10:07Speaker 3: Yeah, so last weekend we we had a quiz held
- 10:12Speaker 3: at Chaos Cards in Town, the game shop, and it
- 10:15Speaker 3: was a it was a it was a quiz all
- 10:17Speaker 3: focused on fandoms and geek culture things sort of like
- 10:21Speaker 3: your Star Wars, Lord the Rings, a bit of Warhammer
- 10:24Speaker 3: and everything like that. And yeah, great turnout it was.
- 10:28Speaker 3: It wasn't your classic kind of general knowledge quiz, but
- 10:30Speaker 3: it really sort of appealed to to, you know, a
- 10:32Speaker 3: really passionate group of people.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Oh do you know what I misread there? I thought,
- 10:36Speaker 1: I honestly thought that thought. That's a tough old quiz,
- 10:38Speaker 1: A Greek culture quiz. Yeah, it's the Greek. I can
- 10:43Speaker 1: understand where you're coming from.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, maybe next time we'll do a Greek culture
- 10:46Speaker 3: but yeah, geek culture. This is all the popular sort
- 10:51Speaker 3: of themes themes of fandom. So big thank you to
- 10:54Speaker 3: Chaos Cards guys for hosting us, great support.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Brilliant and the last one we got on the this
- 11:00Speaker 1: tell us about there the Ghostbusters are scavengers.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah.
- 11:03Speaker 3: So on the same weekend, busy weekend, the Old high
- 11:07Speaker 3: Streets had a the annual Ghostbusters Scavenger Hunt, organized by
- 11:12Speaker 3: Hannah and Stephen.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Yeah, and it was. It was a great event.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Loads of loads of kids turned up hunting down the
- 11:20Speaker 3: ghosts along the Old high Street and then dipping their
- 11:22Speaker 3: hands in you know, slime to get the to get
- 11:25Speaker 3: their reward. But that was all in aid of South
- 11:27Speaker 3: Kent mind. So big thank you to Tannon Richardson and
- 11:30Speaker 3: Stephen Blakemore for for helping out and supporting the charity.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Oh that's brilliant. I mean you've been so busy, haven't you.
- 11:36Speaker 1: I mean, have you got a team that dreams up
- 11:38Speaker 1: these ideas or you kind of let you onto a
- 11:40Speaker 1: lot of the run in and stuff like that and think,
- 11:42Speaker 1: oh we can do something here, we can work on that.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Yeah, we've got We've got a great team at South
- 11:46Speaker 3: Kent Mind, always thinking of new ideas. But yeah, we
- 11:49Speaker 3: try and collaborate as much as we can with other
- 11:51Speaker 3: local sports clubs, charity running groups, community groups, everything like that.
- 11:56Speaker 3: So we're always looking to collaborate on fundraisers and get
- 11:58Speaker 3: engaged in the community. And that's you know, it's a
- 12:01Speaker 3: real testament to how active and how engaged the Focusing
- 12:05Speaker 3: community is and across our whole patch because and how
- 12:09Speaker 3: supportive they are of mental health and our charity.
- 12:11Speaker 1: So we're so grateful, right, so I will say that,
- 12:14Speaker 1: I mean, all the years I've been doing this job here,
- 12:17Speaker 1: for volunteering, you really have raised the profile of South
- 12:20Speaker 1: Kent Mind, which is to be congratulated. So we're gonna
- 12:23Speaker 1: have a little break now though we've still got more
- 12:25Speaker 1: to talk about. We've got stuff for next year, but
- 12:27Speaker 1: we are going to focus on the mental l front.
- 12:30Speaker 1: So the turn the clock back to nineteen sixty nine.
- 12:32Speaker 1: I've must have been This is one of my favorite tracks.
- 12:34Speaker 1: I heard it when I was driving around the other
- 12:36Speaker 1: day and I thought, you know what, I've got to
- 12:37Speaker 1: play it. This is Proud Mary and the Credence clear
- 12:41Speaker 1: Worlder Revival. There that was he goes justding and fading away.
- 13:03Speaker 1: There is, there's some Crittage clear Water Revival to and
- 13:07Speaker 1: pray Out Mary and nineteen sixty nine. Can you believe it? Right?
- 13:11Speaker 1: So we're back in the studio now with Joe. Now, Joe,
- 13:15Speaker 1: we're getting back to basics before we go on to
- 13:17Speaker 1: anything else. So basically tell us about I don't know
- 13:20Speaker 1: where your office is based, what your team do, and
- 13:23Speaker 1: you know what services you offer to the public.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely back to who we are so South Kent Mind.
- 13:30Speaker 3: We are your local independent mental health charity supporting anyone
- 13:35Speaker 3: in the South kentk community, including Folkston.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Deal Dover.
- 13:39Speaker 3: That's our whole patch, all the way from Sandwich down
- 13:41Speaker 3: to Dungeness, including the Romney Marsh. We support anyone in
- 13:44Speaker 3: the South kank community with mental health challenges. We have
- 13:48Speaker 3: popular shops in Folkston Hive, Dover and our main office
- 13:53Speaker 3: is in Folks.
- 13:54Speaker 2: We're a small team.
- 13:55Speaker 3: We're a small team, but we do we do a
- 13:57Speaker 3: lot within the community and offer a lot of services.
- 14:00Speaker 3: We have a wide range of support services from locals, counseling,
- 14:04Speaker 3: money guidance session as that's often the root of a
- 14:07Speaker 3: lot of people's mental health challenges, worrying about finances and money,
- 14:12Speaker 3: and a range of weekly activities such as cooking, art
- 14:15Speaker 3: and are really popular walk and talk groups where people
- 14:18Speaker 3: just get out in nature. We have those in deal
- 14:21Speaker 3: Over and folks do and get out and clear clear
- 14:25Speaker 3: mind and go.
- 14:25Speaker 2: For a nice walk.
- 14:27Speaker 3: But yeah, one thing to clear up about our charity
- 14:29Speaker 3: I think is important to mention is that people commonly
- 14:32Speaker 3: think that we're a branch of Mind, the popular, the
- 14:36Speaker 3: national charity that everyone knows, but in fact South Kent
- 14:39Speaker 3: Mind we're we're a franchise of the national organization, so
- 14:43Speaker 3: we don't receive any statutory funding from the national organization
- 14:47Speaker 3: and everything we earn we have to raise ourselves essentially
- 14:50Speaker 3: through fundraising, grants and getting out there and that's you know,
- 14:54Speaker 3: crucial to keeping our charity going and keeping the lights on,
- 14:57Speaker 3: you know, So That's why we put so much effort
- 14:59Speaker 3: into our fundraising and the events that we put on.
- 15:03Speaker 3: That's why we're so grateful of everyone who engages with
- 15:05Speaker 3: the charity, popping onto our events, supporting us through our
- 15:09Speaker 3: shops and just fundraising for us in general. The amount
- 15:13Speaker 3: of amazing support that we have from from individuals. For example,
- 15:18Speaker 3: Darren Lynch, a teacher from Sandwich Tech, is currently running
- 15:21Speaker 3: five k a day in Age of South Kent Mind,
- 15:24Speaker 3: so really amazing challenge event in Aide of South Kent Mine.
- 15:27Speaker 3: It's people like Darren who really are the backbone of
- 15:31Speaker 3: our charity keep us going.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Really great support.
- 15:34Speaker 3: So thank you to everyone who supports our charity through donating,
- 15:37Speaker 3: at tending our events, just spreading the word on social media.
- 15:42Speaker 2: We're truly grateful, right, It's brilliant.
- 15:44Speaker 1: So, I mean you've got all this. You had a
- 15:46Speaker 1: great sort of plan for twenty twenty five. Are you
- 15:49Speaker 1: going to try and repeat it and a bit more
- 15:52Speaker 1: perhaps in twenty twenty.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Six, Yeah, definitely, twenty twenty five was really great for
- 15:56Speaker 3: awareness and fundraising. We're going to repeat the you know,
- 16:00Speaker 3: the popular events such as mental health already look into
- 16:03Speaker 3: twenty twenty six. So we're going to do that again
- 16:05Speaker 3: next year, your classic boot Fair, the Firewalk, we're going
- 16:11Speaker 3: to do sponsored dog walks as well. The Ports of Mine,
- 16:14Speaker 3: We're doing hide again and you know a couple of
- 16:18Speaker 3: new bits as well. Looking at a sponsored cold dip
- 16:21Speaker 3: in Mark, I.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Don't know if you get many turn up for that one.
- 16:26Speaker 3: We'll get you though where we go. That would be
- 16:29Speaker 3: that would be a fun one.
- 16:31Speaker 1: I'll tell you what. Before you're going further. There is
- 16:33Speaker 1: a community down by the Mermaid cat down there and
- 16:38Speaker 1: you've got to tap into them because for them is
- 16:42Speaker 1: like every day is a sponsored cold dip. And I
- 16:46Speaker 1: did have one guest on the show and she she
- 16:51Speaker 1: got injured doing the London Marathon and wanted something to
- 16:54Speaker 1: recover and started going swimming every day in the summer.
- 16:58Speaker 1: And then the weather slowly changed since she stayed with
- 17:00Speaker 1: it and she went swimming every day for a thousand days.
- 17:05Speaker 1: That's amazing, yes, And now she sort of takes classes
- 17:09Speaker 1: and encourages people to come along and there's always there's
- 17:14Speaker 1: people that come from out of the district and I'm
- 17:17Speaker 1: friends with their Facebook group and it's got oh I'm
- 17:19Speaker 1: down on holiday from Nottingham or somewhere. Is there anywhere
- 17:23Speaker 1: where I can have a cold swim and they go down?
- 17:26Speaker 1: So you've got a little market there, so you need
- 17:28Speaker 1: to tap into.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Yeah. I think it's really popular and really good for
- 17:31Speaker 2: your mental health as well.
- 17:32Speaker 3: It's getting out, you know, you know, embracing the challenge
- 17:35Speaker 3: of getting in the cold water. But yeah, as you
- 17:38Speaker 3: mentioned as well, everything all of our services and how
- 17:41Speaker 3: to get in touch.
- 17:42Speaker 2: So yeah, it's everything.
- 17:43Speaker 3: We found our website which is South keptmind dot org
- 17:46Speaker 3: dot uk and or give us a ring I one
- 17:48Speaker 3: three three two five hundred and nine zero if you
- 17:52Speaker 3: if you if you're interested.
- 17:53Speaker 2: For yourself in any of our services or anyone you
- 17:56Speaker 2: know as well.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Right, So I will say that when I've been around
- 18:00Speaker 1: down to see these cold dippers, you know they go
- 18:04Speaker 1: in the water that the experienced ones that have been
- 18:06Speaker 1: doing it a long time, as if nothing is wrong.
- 18:10Speaker 1: They go into the light well to me, icy cold
- 18:13Speaker 1: seawater and they just going did you got out last night?
- 18:16Speaker 2: You know?
- 18:16Speaker 1: And you and going you know when it gets up
- 18:20Speaker 1: passes with me trunks. Yeah, they are a great community.
- 18:24Speaker 1: You need to tap into them, right, So is there
- 18:26Speaker 1: anything else Joe? Before we go onto the the idea
- 18:30Speaker 1: of the program today. Oh, there's a few thank yous here.
- 18:33Speaker 1: We've got some sponsors to think all of the extras
- 18:37Speaker 1: and Saga.
- 18:37Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely, big thank you to Saga for sponsoring our firewalk.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Great support from Saga entered the team and actually lit
- 18:46Speaker 3: the coals for the firewalk.
- 18:47Speaker 2: As well, which is brilliant. Yeah.
- 18:49Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a good moment, really supportive of us. Yeah,
- 18:52Speaker 3: and HODX is helping out with mental health which we'll
- 18:54Speaker 3: talk about. But yeah, big thank you to everyone. Actually,
- 18:57Speaker 3: Kevin who's who supported South kemptmind over the last year.
- 18:59Speaker 3: We all have fraising events. Doesn't happen, doesn't happen on
- 19:03Speaker 3: its own, these things that these things, you know, real
- 19:06Speaker 3: community bringing, bringing everyone together and really rely on on
- 19:09Speaker 3: everyone who volunteers and helps out.
- 19:11Speaker 2: So big thank you.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Good Right, Okay, Now the reason that we sort of
- 19:16Speaker 1: wanted you in today is because it's coming around the
- 19:20Speaker 1: Mental Wealth Run. Now we did it first time last year.
- 19:23Speaker 1: I suspect you learned a lot from it, but it's
- 19:26Speaker 1: happening again this year. So first of all, let's go
- 19:29Speaker 1: back to last year. What lessons have you learned about
- 19:32Speaker 1: going into this year? Do you think.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a good point.
- 19:35Speaker 3: Actually, I remember we're talking about it this last year,
- 19:37Speaker 3: actually care about you know, mental health, and I was
- 19:39Speaker 3: and I was pretty new South Camesa.
- 19:41Speaker 2: This is all this is all a big learning learning
- 19:42Speaker 2: code that right, Yeah, yeah, the fun Run.
- 19:45Speaker 3: But obviously had a great team behind me at the charity.
- 19:48Speaker 3: And yeah, so we learned a lot from last year.
- 19:51Speaker 3: Were first of all blown away by how many people
- 19:53Speaker 3: attended the Fun Run in twenty twenty four. So this
- 19:56Speaker 3: year we were a lot more prepared for that, you know,
- 19:58Speaker 3: just and you know, just the little learnings about you know,
- 20:02Speaker 3: timings and you.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Know what people, how the public operate and everything.
- 20:06Speaker 3: So yeah, lots of lots of learnings there. But we
- 20:10Speaker 3: learned about the promotion side of things, when to get
- 20:13Speaker 3: out to do more postering and everything, and how to
- 20:16Speaker 3: engage the community. There's lots of learnings there and we're
- 20:19Speaker 3: really looking forward to So weally looking forward to cracking
- 20:21Speaker 3: on this year.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Right, So tell our listeners how they can get into it.
- 20:25Speaker 1: And it's not it's not like it's a sprint or
- 20:29Speaker 1: anything like that, as it just you know, out lay
- 20:32Speaker 1: the day itself.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Yeah, so mental health is is a really relaxed run, walk,
- 20:38Speaker 3: stroll or roll around the five the five k course
- 20:42Speaker 3: along the leaves. It's actually the same park round course
- 20:44Speaker 3: that a lot of people are familiar with. So it's
- 20:47Speaker 3: a really laid back event, not a race at all,
- 20:50Speaker 3: not a sprint. We're not gonna be timing you or anything,
- 20:52Speaker 3: and we're encouraging you to dress up as as elves
- 20:56Speaker 3: have a bit of fun. And yeah, that worked really well.
- 21:00Speaker 1: I'm surprised. I thought a few would come along, but
- 21:03Speaker 1: Neil know, about eighteen ninety percent were dressed up and
- 21:06Speaker 1: the kids loved it, didn't they.
- 21:07Speaker 3: I loved it and looked like you did as well
- 21:09Speaker 3: in your hat on the bandstand as well. So yeah,
- 21:13Speaker 3: it's a really relaxed event. Games on the band on
- 21:16Speaker 3: the bandstand, PA for the day and it starts for
- 21:19Speaker 3: about from twelve o'clock the run. The run starts, but
- 21:23Speaker 3: we'll have a registration desk open from ten thirty at
- 21:26Speaker 3: the bandstand with a with a little warm up led
- 21:29Speaker 3: by Julie Gibbett at eleven fifty.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll be speaking to Julie this week and she's
- 21:34Speaker 1: really excited and she's been she's had her husband Malcolm
- 21:39Speaker 1: dancing in the front room to make sure all the
- 21:42Speaker 1: moves are right. Yeah.
- 21:43Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a good bit of fun and it's like
- 21:45Speaker 3: I said, everyone's encouraged to dress up as now we've
- 21:48Speaker 3: got a prize for best dressed and it's a great
- 21:50Speaker 3: bit of community fine getting this festive spirit and support
- 21:53Speaker 3: South Kent Mind. Yeah, and it's coming up soon on
- 21:56Speaker 3: the on the seventh, on the seventh of December, Sunday
- 21:58Speaker 3: the seventh.
- 21:59Speaker 1: So the next question is how can people enter? Yeah,
- 22:02Speaker 1: that's the one.
- 22:03Speaker 3: So so all all entries are online, so that's south
- 22:06Speaker 3: Campmind dot org dot uk and able to find our
- 22:09Speaker 3: tab on mental health. You just sign up there, purchase
- 22:13Speaker 3: your tickets and everyone who signs up it receives a
- 22:17Speaker 3: medal at the end of the run and all children
- 22:18Speaker 3: receive a goodie bag. So big thank you to Saga
- 22:20Speaker 3: for sponsoring the goodie bags for children and holiday extras
- 22:24Speaker 3: for generously sponsoring the medals and race numbers that all
- 22:29Speaker 3: participants will receive on the day.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Brilliant. So people, I mean if they are struggling them
- 22:34Speaker 1: with stuff online, they can and rock up and enter
- 22:37Speaker 1: on the day.
- 22:38Speaker 3: Yeah, they're on the day entries as well. That was
- 22:41Speaker 3: a learning from last year. Not everyone, not everyone signs
- 22:44Speaker 3: up in advance, although we do encourage people to do so. Yeah,
- 22:49Speaker 3: you can turn up on the day and we'll sign
- 22:51Speaker 3: you up.
- 22:52Speaker 1: I think the one thing that we've come out of
- 22:54Speaker 1: this conversation actually, Joe, is the fact that it is
- 22:56Speaker 1: basically the part run, but it doesn't start down the Leaseecliffall.
- 22:59Speaker 1: It's starts it and finishes at the band standards.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:02Speaker 3: If it starts and finish at the bandstands that's our
- 23:04Speaker 3: main sort of like focal point of where you'll be
- 23:06Speaker 3: where we'll hand out the medals after as well. But
- 23:09Speaker 3: it's really relaxed five K five K routes on Yeah, Sunday,
- 23:14Speaker 3: the seventh of December.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Nothing to it right, Okay, Joe, it's been awesome morning.
- 23:18Speaker 1: You've got loads of stuff in and the which is great.
- 23:21Speaker 1: This's what we wanted. So is there anything else we've
- 23:24Speaker 1: forgotten or do you want to send any contact details again?
- 23:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I just like to repeat our you know, the
- 23:29Speaker 3: message of of who we are to Kevin, just just
- 23:32Speaker 3: just to mention that we are your local independent mental
- 23:35Speaker 3: health charity. So if you or anyone you know a
- 23:37Speaker 3: struggling with their mental health and could do with some
- 23:39Speaker 3: support from us. You know, talking is the most important thing,
- 23:42Speaker 3: the most important first step. Please do get in touch
- 23:44Speaker 3: on one three or three two five hundred nine zero
- 23:47Speaker 3: or visit our website south Caminda Talk dot uk where
- 23:51Speaker 3: you can learn about all of our services and all
- 23:53Speaker 3: the fundraisers and events that we put on throughout the year.
- 23:56Speaker 3: So we obviously talked about what's coming up in twenty
- 23:58Speaker 3: twenty six, you know. To keep in touch with us,
- 24:01Speaker 3: we post everything on our website and our social media
- 24:03Speaker 3: as well. That's at South Camp Mind on Instagram and
- 24:06Speaker 3: south Camp Mind on Facebook as well. Yeah, and just
- 24:09Speaker 3: the final big thanks to everyone who supports the charity,
- 24:11Speaker 3: who's looking to support the charity, and who's who's planning
- 24:14Speaker 3: to come along to mental health. Look forward to seeing
- 24:15Speaker 3: you there, brilliant.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Okay, well Joe, thanks for coming in. There's been you've
- 24:19Speaker 1: been so busy this year and you've done a great job.
- 24:22Speaker 1: You've certainly got the name out there and I hope
- 24:25Speaker 1: the charity has benefited and perhaps next year and you
- 24:28Speaker 1: might even spread your wings into Dover and Deal a
- 24:30Speaker 1: bit a little bit definitely, and yeah, we'll try a
- 24:33Speaker 1: few things out there. Okay, Joe, thanks once more. Okay,
- 24:36Speaker 1: so it is time for a bit more music now.
- 24:38Speaker 1: This is from nineteen ninety five and this is supergrass
- 24:41Speaker 1: and all right, yeah, supergrass there from ninety to ninety
- 25:00Speaker 1: and a big thank you to Joe Telhurst. You know,
- 25:02Speaker 1: as you said, I certainly have noticed the difference that
- 25:06Speaker 1: what his team have done in the last year and
- 25:09Speaker 1: they raised the profile of the charity and hopefully raised
- 25:11Speaker 1: loads of money. Okay, let's move on with a sport now, folks.
- 25:15Speaker 1: And in Victor where they found themselves top of the
- 25:17Speaker 1: table on Saturday evening after an away trip to Potters
- 25:21Speaker 1: Bar which resulted in a three nil victory thanks to
- 25:24Speaker 1: goals from Joe Pigott, Dean Rohn's and returning from injury
- 25:27Speaker 1: off the bench Eddie Yusuf. Tuesday evening, it was a
- 25:30Speaker 1: home game against Cray Wanderers, which resulted in an amazing
- 25:34Speaker 1: eight one win. I don't think anybody expected that, to
- 25:37Speaker 1: be honest. That was in front of one one hundred
- 25:39Speaker 1: and thirty one fans. And I won't say any more
- 25:42Speaker 1: about that game because my colleague Adrian was there and
- 25:45Speaker 1: we will. I'll be joining him on Saturday between ten
- 25:49Speaker 1: and eleven, and we will have a good old chat
- 25:50Speaker 1: about that this Saturday in November the fifteenth, there is
- 25:54Speaker 1: another big game. It's at home to AFC Totten which
- 25:58Speaker 1: is an FA Trophy game now to the fifth in
- 26:01Speaker 1: the National League South. So they're they play in a
- 26:05Speaker 1: higher division, but there's no I'm sure they won't fear
- 26:09Speaker 1: them because Focusing in Victor have beaten two teams in
- 26:12Speaker 1: a higher division already this season and there's a lot
- 26:15Speaker 1: of stake actually, apart from an appearance at Wembley in
- 26:19Speaker 1: the final, how good would that be a to see
- 26:21Speaker 1: Focusing in Victor running out at Wembley. Well, this this
- 26:26Speaker 1: round is worth three thy seven hundred and fifty to
- 26:29Speaker 1: the winners and it's worth a thousand pounds to the losers.
- 26:33Speaker 1: And I'm pretty sure I've got this right. I'm sure
- 26:35Speaker 1: Adrian will tell me if I haven't. But there will
- 26:37Speaker 1: be a result on the day. It will go to penalties.
- 26:40Speaker 1: So you were in no sort of round about half
- 26:43Speaker 1: past five weather, folks in Victor of one the folks
- 26:48Speaker 1: and the ladies team they lost three too, but this
- 26:50Speaker 1: was the higher opposition King's Hill that was on Sunday
- 26:53Speaker 1: in the League Cup, and their next fixture is Sunday
- 26:56Speaker 1: twenty third November away to Hollins and Blair turn our
- 27:00Speaker 1: attentions to hive Town now. They took an eighth minute
- 27:03Speaker 1: lead against Burnham in the second round of the FA
- 27:06Speaker 1: Bars at Riachville's on Saturday, but Burnham replied two minutes
- 27:09Speaker 1: into the second half and that's how it stayed until
- 27:12Speaker 1: full time, so that one was a penalty shootout. Burnham
- 27:15Speaker 1: went in four to three and so that result ended
- 27:17Speaker 1: the manager Ira Jackson's reign at the club. After we
- 27:21Speaker 1: started the season would look like to be very promising,
- 27:24Speaker 1: but that's football, isn't it, you know. However, currently third
- 27:28Speaker 1: from bottom, there's two clubs hold the relegation spots, so
- 27:31Speaker 1: all eyes will be on social media for an appointment
- 27:34Speaker 1: perhaps before their next game, which is on Saturday away
- 27:38Speaker 1: to sixth place sun Athletic in the NRG Kent County League.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Hawkins lost three to a way to Aylsford, pushing them
- 27:45Speaker 1: down to fifth place. This Saturday, it's a home to
- 27:48Speaker 1: Stansfield in the league, who are fifteenth out of nineteen teams.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Hawks reserves were beaten in the Junior Cup three nail
- 27:56Speaker 1: away against Staplehurst Monarchs under twenty one side, and this
- 28:00Speaker 1: week is more cup action, the League Cup, this time
- 28:02Speaker 1: where they have been drawn away to a Bromley Green
- 28:05Speaker 1: Sports Club. New Romney's first team continued their good form
- 28:09Speaker 1: beat in Bexley five to two at home, pushing them
- 28:12Speaker 1: up to twelfth place. This weekend it's a home game
- 28:15Speaker 1: in the Kent Intermediate Challenge Shield against Guru Nanak who
- 28:18Speaker 1: are just one place behind New Romney in the table,
- 28:21Speaker 1: so that should be a very close game. Romney reserves
- 28:25Speaker 1: drew tour with faveryshim Athletic in the Kent Junior Cup,
- 28:28Speaker 1: so once again penalties. Well, this one was a thriller.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Both sides scored their five penalties apiece, but it looks
- 28:35Speaker 1: like Romney kept the nerve and won the shootout six
- 28:38Speaker 1: penalties to five. Even more cup action this Saturday, as
- 28:42Speaker 1: the reserves are also at home. There's two weeks running
- 28:45Speaker 1: both teams have been at home. The reserves take on
- 28:47Speaker 1: Elenham Wanderer's reserves in the League Cup. Now I'm not
- 28:52Speaker 1: quite sure what happened to the invictored disability team. This
- 28:54Speaker 1: doesn't happen very often. I could tell you that much.
- 28:57Speaker 1: They were beaten ten to two last Sunday by time
- 29:01Speaker 1: manager Garret Wilson was not happy with the referee and
- 29:04Speaker 1: he maintains three blatant penalties should have been given for
- 29:07Speaker 1: his lads, and he also felt the home side were
- 29:10Speaker 1: indeed getting the better of the decisions. However, he did
- 29:14Speaker 1: still praise the boys and Man of the match went
- 29:16Speaker 1: to Vinnie Perry. So come on, lads, onwards and upwards.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Now their next game is away on the twenty third
- 29:23Speaker 1: of November in the Kent Disability Football League tournament which
- 29:27Speaker 1: they play over at Faversham. Okay, time for a bit
- 29:30Speaker 1: of music again. Now this is Westlife and Fall again babe,
- 29:49Speaker 1: that's Westlife there. Okay, moving on now to hockey. Yes,
- 30:00Speaker 1: Joe Tolhurst, as we know, plays for the first team
- 30:02Speaker 1: in the Folks and Optimists, but sadly the men's Verse
- 30:05Speaker 1: eleven they lost four to one to Sittingbourne last Saturday,
- 30:10Speaker 1: will Mead getting the single goal. The men's second team
- 30:13Speaker 1: they lost four to two to Maidstone and Nick Hopkins
- 30:17Speaker 1: and Jack goodin scoring there. The third team they drew
- 30:20Speaker 1: two all with Old william Sonians Steve Timmins and phil
- 30:23Speaker 1: King of getting themselves on the score sheets. Men's fourth
- 30:26Speaker 1: teen they lost two nil to Sittingbourne. Men's fifteen they
- 30:30Speaker 1: beat Old William Sonian's three nil. Logan Charman, Paul Andrews
- 30:34Speaker 1: and Ross Driver on the score sheet. Men's sixteen beat
- 30:38Speaker 1: gore Court two to one, Seb Jawalski and Steve Rowe
- 30:41Speaker 1: getting the goals. The men's seven fifteen beat Gillingham and
- 30:45Speaker 1: Corean's three to two goals coming from Matt Carter and
- 30:48Speaker 1: Matt Goodwin and Adam nord Done and the men's eightheen
- 30:51Speaker 1: they drew a one all with gore Court Warwick Waite
- 30:55Speaker 1: getting a single goal. The ladies they the first team
- 30:58Speaker 1: they beat gore Court for to one, Livy she Keep
- 31:00Speaker 1: getting two goals, Claire Carter and Becker Share getting the others.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Lady's second team they lost three nil to Amaldon Russett's
- 31:07Speaker 1: Ladies' thirds they beat bern Ash two nil, phoebe Norman
- 31:11Speaker 1: scoring both the goals. Ladies fourteen they beat Sittingbourne five nil.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Natalie Harvey scored twice, Izzy Timmins, Sienna Craig and Tess
- 31:21Speaker 1: Regions getting one each. Ladies fifteen they had a good win.
- 31:24Speaker 1: They beat three to Tumbridge Wells, Ellie watt Kins, Christina
- 31:29Speaker 1: Gribosca sorry Christina and siscored one and Wendy Backwells she
- 31:34Speaker 1: scored one as well. The Ladies sixteen they beat Hulcombe
- 31:38Speaker 1: two nil, Janet Fuller and Scartlett Craig getting the goals there.
- 31:42Speaker 1: So summing up the weekend basically, the Ops fielded fourteen teams.
- 31:47Speaker 1: They played fourteen, they won eight, they lost four, they
- 31:51Speaker 1: drew two, They scored forty goals four and they conceded
- 31:55Speaker 1: twenty two. So still not a bad old weekend, although
- 31:58Speaker 1: it does sound like there was a lot of drawers there,
- 32:01Speaker 1: but yeah, pretty good stuff and once again full set
- 32:05Speaker 1: of fixtures coming up this Saturday, and get down to
- 32:08Speaker 1: the Free Hills if you like a fix of hockey.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Now I'm going to chuck in a bit of basketball
- 32:13Speaker 1: news now, Folks and Saints basketball team. It must be
- 32:16Speaker 1: one of the fastest growing clubs in Folkston last weekend.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Four of the teams all had wins. The under eighteen's
- 32:22Speaker 1: girls beat a Greenwich Phoenix fifty two forty eight. The
- 32:26Speaker 1: under fourteen boys beat Bexley Tigers seventy six sixty one.
- 32:30Speaker 1: The under sixteen boys eighteen beat South End Scorpions seventy
- 32:34Speaker 1: two forty and finally, this is a really close game
- 32:37Speaker 1: if you know how the scoring goes in basketball. The
- 32:40Speaker 1: under sixteen boys team they beat Essex Charge seventy three seventy.
- 32:45Speaker 1: So there was not much in that one. Now, I've
- 32:47Speaker 1: tried several times to get to coach Mark Hinton on
- 32:50Speaker 1: the show, but he's so busy these days. They're doing
- 32:52Speaker 1: basketball stuff, either coaching or school visits or they's got
- 32:57Speaker 1: paperwork to do. But it's just it just hasn't be impossible.
- 33:01Speaker 1: But if your child wants to try basketball, there's a
- 33:04Speaker 1: beginner session on Saturdays between the nine and eleven at
- 33:07Speaker 1: the Three Hills and it is for boys and girls
- 33:10Speaker 1: age six upwards. So please contact Saints of Basketball at
- 33:15Speaker 1: hotmale dot co dot uk or a visit the Saints
- 33:18Speaker 1: Basketball folks and Facebook page. Okay, going to squeeze in
- 33:23Speaker 1: a bit of rugby now, because as usual when we
- 33:25Speaker 1: get a guest in it does go on a bit.
- 33:27Speaker 1: So I'm banging out the sport here. Rugby new is
- 33:29Speaker 1: now the first fifteen that folks, and listen to this one.
- 33:32Speaker 1: They fell one point short of a century of points
- 33:36Speaker 1: on Saturday when they trounced Beckenham ninety nine points to ten.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Now I can't find a fixture for this Saturday. Their
- 33:43Speaker 1: next scheduled game is on the twenty second of November
- 33:46Speaker 1: against the top of the table Dunbridge Tunbridge Judians Second
- 33:51Speaker 1: fifteen now Folks then Firse fifteen are currently fourth in
- 33:55Speaker 1: the table. The Second's lost by twenty nine points to
- 33:58Speaker 1: twelve away to Gravesend. Next game also on the twenty
- 34:02Speaker 1: second against Tunbridge Judion's third team, and the Ladies lost
- 34:06Speaker 1: twenty four points to ten against Thannit Wonderers. Their next
- 34:10Speaker 1: fixture is at home on the twenty third against seven Oaks.
- 34:13Speaker 1: So the second team and the Ladies team had a
- 34:16Speaker 1: little wobble there and I'm hoping they're but bounced back
- 34:20Speaker 1: at their next fixture. Okay, this is Kelly Clarkson and because.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Of you, because.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Because that's a nice song, isn't it Kelly Clarkson Because
- 34:58Speaker 1: of You? Right here we go again. Last Saturday I
- 35:02Speaker 1: was on the mic at the Bexhill on Sea for
- 35:04Speaker 1: the Remembrance Run, which consisted of four distances a mile,
- 35:08Speaker 1: a five k, ten k and a half marathon. Around
- 35:11Speaker 1: five hundred five hundred runners took part over the four distances,
- 35:15Speaker 1: and I spotted just one solitary runner from Focus and
- 35:18Speaker 1: Running Club and that was Greg Dixon, who completed the
- 35:21Speaker 1: half in a time of one hour, forty six minutes
- 35:23Speaker 1: fifty six seconds. Now, what a lovely day. The weather
- 35:27Speaker 1: was like totally unseasonable. It really was at sunshine, had
- 35:30Speaker 1: warm temperatures, very little wind. It was really nice. And
- 35:33Speaker 1: the nice thing about this run is that the organizers
- 35:36Speaker 1: make a donation to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Now I'm out with an old colleague of mine. His
- 35:42Speaker 1: name is Graham Penn and I first met Graham back
- 35:46Speaker 1: years ago when we compared a race at the iRIf
- 35:50Speaker 1: Hendon Museum for a Battle of Britain weekend and he
- 35:54Speaker 1: ran in an armor uniform and he's since run the
- 35:57Speaker 1: Poppy Run in an armor uniform and the run like
- 36:00Speaker 1: the Army univer including boots as well. This year he
- 36:04Speaker 1: did the ten k and he's a great character and
- 36:07Speaker 1: we had a little chat sort of off air, and
- 36:10Speaker 1: then I interviewed him in front of everybody, and he
- 36:13Speaker 1: really did enjoy the day. He came all the way
- 36:15Speaker 1: down from Wales just for the event. He stayed at
- 36:18Speaker 1: a little B and B up the road and it
- 36:21Speaker 1: was a great fun weekend. So when down to you, Graham,
- 36:24Speaker 1: hope you got home safely. He's a bit of a
- 36:26Speaker 1: camera man, no, not taking pictures, one of those cameras
- 36:30Speaker 1: real ale, you know. And on the way home, I've
- 36:33Speaker 1: don't know how many pups he stopped at, but he
- 36:35Speaker 1: certainly does like his real Ale and I think I
- 36:38Speaker 1: might get into that camera. It sounds like a better
- 36:40Speaker 1: than running. It sounds like okay, So what else have
- 36:44Speaker 1: we got This Sunday, it's back on the mic for
- 36:47Speaker 1: me over at Ramsgate for the Coastal Striders Coastbuster ten
- 36:51Speaker 1: k and tim I run, and they've also they've also
- 36:55Speaker 1: got a one kilometer junior run, so places were going
- 36:58Speaker 1: fast the last time I check. So get over to
- 37:02Speaker 1: a nice work dot org and have a look, just
- 37:04Speaker 1: in case they've run out or they've sold out and
- 37:06Speaker 1: you don't want to go over there and there might
- 37:08Speaker 1: not be any entries on the day. And if I
- 37:11Speaker 1: ly park run venues folks are running and Athletic Club
- 37:15Speaker 1: literally took over Saturday's park run last week filling every
- 37:19Speaker 1: conceivable marshal imposition. It was a great turnout. Four hundred
- 37:23Speaker 1: and fifty runners took part. Now, a park run takeover
- 37:26Speaker 1: is literally self explanatory. It means that a club or
- 37:29Speaker 1: a firm or similar have the opportunity to run the
- 37:32Speaker 1: event solely on their own, but of course under the
- 37:35Speaker 1: guidance of experienced volunteers. Forty members of the club turned
- 37:39Speaker 1: out and they even have club members acting as pacers
- 37:43Speaker 1: from any distance from any time rather from eighteen to
- 37:46Speaker 1: forty minutes. This certainly helped runners and many of them,
- 37:49Speaker 1: thanks to the pacers, managed at a personal best time. Now,
- 37:53Speaker 1: despite the high attendance, several runners were still out and
- 37:55Speaker 1: about elsewhere, and they might have been on holiday. But
- 38:00Speaker 1: Andy Noble and Leslie Clancy run the Whitley Bay Park Run,
- 38:03Speaker 1: which is on the northeast coast of England, James Barney
- 38:06Speaker 1: run the Great Lions Park Run which is in Gillingham,
- 38:10Speaker 1: and Stuart West found his park Run in Keswick in Cumbria.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Now a few days for your diary and Saturday, the
- 38:19Speaker 1: twentieth of December I shall be on the mic at
- 38:21Speaker 1: the Dover Waterfront Park Run for their Christmas festive event Thursday,
- 38:26Speaker 1: the twenty fifth of December, Yes, Christmas Day, folks on
- 38:30Speaker 1: are putting on their festive park run. And then on
- 38:32Speaker 1: Boxing Day it's the Saltward Boxing Day Run. That's three meals,
- 38:36Speaker 1: three meals, three miles of hills for a hangover cure.
- 38:41Speaker 1: And now we'll be running out of time now and
- 38:43Speaker 1: now I want to play this one, and this would
- 38:45Speaker 1: probably see us out. Actually, this is one for all
- 38:48Speaker 1: the Coastal Striders. I shall be playing this at the
- 38:51Speaker 1: start of the race for their they call it the
- 38:54Speaker 1: Coastbuster ten and this is about as close as I
- 38:57Speaker 1: could get to Coastbuster. So back, settle back and listen
- 39:01Speaker 1: to Ray Parker's Junior and the Ghostbusters. But this song
- 39:28Speaker 1: is for everyone that's going over to Ramsgate on Sunday.
- 39:31Speaker 1: It's the ten k ten miler organized by Coastal Striders
- 39:35Speaker 1: and their race is called the coast Buster. I'll be
- 39:41Speaker 1: there on the mic. Come over and say loo, Well
- 39:47Speaker 1: that's it for me. I won't be around for the
- 39:49Speaker 1: next three weeks. I'm off to Cyprus for a bit
- 39:51Speaker 1: of sunshine. However, I will be joining eighty on Saturday
- 39:55Speaker 1: between ten and eleven, and I might even see you
- 39:57Speaker 1: at the Coastal Strider's Run, as we said, and that's
- 40:00Speaker 1: on Sunday at ten o'clock. I think it is get
- 40:04Speaker 1: there early, so stay spoke to you everybody, and I'll
- 40:07Speaker 1: see you next time on one oh five point nine FM,
- 40:13Speaker 1: online at radiofokusdon dot com.
