- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31Today we're talking about cause and effect.
- 0:34We all understand that things happen.
- 0:38That's the 'cause, right? And then there's an effect
- 0:41afterwards what we choose to believe or react to.
- 0:46And cause and effect is so important to understand because,
- 0:50you know, as Wayne Dyer said, it's not their fault for pushing
- 0:54your buttons. It's your fault for having the
- 0:57buttons they push. God, that was one of the most
- 1:00impactful statements I ever read in a book many, many years ago.
- 1:03And I read it and reread it and read it and reread it.
- 1:06And I was like, wait, no, you know, it's him.
- 1:09It's this, it's that. And it was such a realization to
- 1:14me to recognize. And it still is over and over
- 1:18about how quickly we can get hooked into having this
- 1:23reaction, this effect of allowing something to get into
- 1:27our head and having a reaction to it that is completely in our
- 1:31control. You know, people will say, no,
- 1:34it's not in my control. I mean, he did something.
- 1:36He knew it was wrong. It pissed me off.
- 1:38But you ultimately have all the control of how you respond.
- 1:42No one can ever take that away from you.
- 1:44I really want you to hear me say that.
- 1:46No one can ever take that away from you.
- 1:49You have the ability to control your response.
- 1:53You have the ability to decide what that cause is going to do
- 1:58to you and the effect it's going to have on you.
- 2:01And when we hang on and we keep talking about things over and
- 2:05over and over, it's a sign that we want closure.
- 2:08It's a sign that we want to understand the reason why, you
- 2:11know, it always comes back to that, well, why did this happen?
- 2:14Why did this happen? And it's because we want to
- 2:17regain some stability. We're looking for the certainty.
- 2:20We want to try to fix the situation.
- 2:22We want to say, well, wait, no see, you did that to me, but I
- 2:26did this to you because of this happened.
- 2:28And we always try to find a way to get around the fact that we
- 2:32can't change the past. We just cannot.
- 2:35We cannot change the past no matter what we do.
- 2:37We cannot change the past, but we can change this moment and
- 2:40moving forward, nothing else. So if you choose to dwell in the
- 2:45past, that's fine. People will often say, well, you
- 2:49learn a lot from the past. And I say potentially, I mean,
- 2:53it's pretty up in the air. It depends on what you decide to
- 2:57believe about it. You know, there are people out
- 3:00there that will look at wars, like past wars that our country
- 3:04has gone through, and they will argue the fact that, you know,
- 3:09these wars were from one point of view.
- 3:13And then you have other people that will look at it and say,
- 3:16well, no, this was absolutely from this point of view.
- 3:19And then you have other people who will look and say, well, we
- 3:21didn't need to be there at all. And you're never going to get a
- 3:25clear answer because it's all from the perspective you start
- 3:29from. And you just have to accept the
- 3:32fact that even with major things like going to war with other
- 3:35countries, doing certain things, it's all from the perspective
- 3:39you start from infinitely. If I get aggravated with the
- 3:45fact that the dishwasher is not loaded the way I like to see it
- 3:48loaded, is it their fault for loading the dishwasher wrong
- 3:52after I've said it 100 * 1000 times?
- 3:57Could be possibly. But the reality is other people
- 4:00live in my house. Other people think they're doing
- 4:03the right things according to themselves and their rules.
- 4:05Other people are are entitled to have their opinions.
- 4:10My way is not only the right way, there may be other right
- 4:14ways to do things. And I have to accept that that
- 4:18is a button that can be pushed for me.
- 4:19And I'm using such a simple example because I want you to
- 4:22understand that the cause is so something insignificant, but the
- 4:26effect can just get me like, why, why, why, why?
- 4:31And I let it throw me and it continues to show up in my world
- 4:38to remind me. And now I laugh about it and
- 4:40say, OK, am I going to let that button get pushed?
- 4:43Why do I still possess that button?
- 4:45Why is that button even here? So it's incredibly important for
- 4:49you to recognize that the buttons are your buttons.
- 4:53The reaction is absolutely your challenge, your responsibility,
- 5:01your impact on yourself, because the effect that it has on you is
- 5:05not just momentary, it's all day.
- 5:07It's long lasting. So you have to make decisions
- 5:10about how you want that to show up and if you're willing to take
- 5:14that on and if you're willing to be aggravated long term.
- 5:16There are times when I'll say to myself, Oh yeah, this really
- 5:19pisses me off. And I'm going to have to allow
- 5:21myself this frame of time to say, OK, yeah, I got to think
- 5:25about this or I got to obsess on this or dwell on this.
- 5:27I'm, I'm being completely real with you.
- 5:29I do that. I give myself time, but I also
- 5:31set a timer and I'll say, okay, I'm not going to be annoyed with
- 5:35this for more than, you know, 24 hours, 48 hours.
- 5:38Sometimes it goes up to 72 if it's a deli, but for the most
- 5:42part, it's a, it's a set the time, let it go, set the time,
- 5:48let it go because it's not going to help you and it's not going
- 5:50to serve you and it's going to take you out.
- 5:52So pay attention to cause and effect my friends.
- 5:55Pay attention to cause and effect because it's necessary to
- 5:58pay attention to cause and effect.
- 6:00I hope you all have a very blessed day and I will see you
- 6:03tomorrow. Bye.
