- 0:00Marge. Now that you're rich, you really should get rid of that bag.
- 0:05Really, I'm so used to my old one, old one. They're
- 0:09convincing Marge to dump me. Oh it's easy. I get a new one
- 0:13every two years from Italy. You would love a big black one four finger
- 0:20discount dude, welcome to four figure discount. With this week we hit to
- 0:39review episode seven of season nineteen of The Simpsons. It is Husbands and Knives.
- 0:44I'm Danno and I am guy, and I charged this episode with an
- 0:47egregious waste of Jack Black. I posted in the four finger discount Patreon group
- 0:53last night, and I think on a discord as well that I've got a
- 0:57rant coming. Right. I saw this and I was like, so wait,
- 1:00as not necessarily anything that happens in the episode that bothered me with this
- 1:03one? Right, Yes, this is it. You just mentioned Jack Black,
- 1:07one of my favorite actors of all time. At this point of this
- 1:10episode, When to add two thousand and seven one of the biggest stars into
- 1:11what's still one of the biggest stars in the world. Right, who among
- 1:15us does not like the Jabels? And he feels like the kind of guy
- 1:17who I don't want to hear that we only had it for a certain amount
- 1:19of time. He feels like the kind of guy who if you said we
- 1:22want to have you on the Simson, he go where when? How long
- 1:23did need before? Sometimes when you say a little something goes a long way,
- 1:27it can be a backhanded confidence, like this person's a bit much,
- 1:30yes, but a little little Jack Black goes a long way. He's concentrated
- 1:36chaos and mayhem in the best possible way. Yea. Yet in this episode,
- 1:41I feel like we got there's not a lot of jabels I mean,
- 1:44or not not properly utilized, not exploit it to the best of his abilities.
- 1:49So what bothered me with this right was I was so excited at the
- 1:53start because I when, what's what's the character's name that he plays running Coolsville.
- 2:00I'll find it in the second anyway, the character finds in Carsville,
- 2:02right, let's find it. His name is Milo Mylo. That's right,
- 2:07Mylo, the owner of Callsville, the new comic book store here in Springfield
- 2:09that is now hipper and cooler and more with it. It's you know,
- 2:13it's finally happened to comic book guy. It'll happen to you it's happen to
- 2:15combook Guy. Right, it's the two thousand and seven equivalent of what people
- 2:19thought a comic book store should be. Everyone loved it. Right he came
- 2:22out, he started speaking. I thought that's somebody. I listened. I
- 2:24thought, oh, wait a minute, it's jap Back. I never knew
- 2:28Japbacker was on The Simpsons. I was super excited. Right, I couldn't
- 2:30believe it. I thought, this is going to be great, a whole
- 2:31episode around Milo versus Comic book Guy. Yes, nay, no, it
- 2:37was not that we had an entire first act that I really enjoy with the
- 2:40comic book stores and comic book Guy getting his ar com uppins for being a
- 2:45joke all these years, and his store closes down right, which leads Marsh
- 2:47to opening up her own gym where the Androids Dungeon used to be right correct.
- 2:53What shipped me about this was that after that first act, there is
- 2:57no reference to the comic book stores anymore. There is mylett Jack Blacks don't
- 3:00have been referenced anymore. So the comic book store is closed down, gone
- 3:05right. Apparently Marge has turned it into a gym. She's now incredibly successful.
- 3:09Now, I preface this by saying, Matt, someone I know you
- 3:12wrote this episode, and I love you. We went for dinner, we
- 3:14shared a drink, pals, right, But the thing is that what it
- 3:16takes, is that all it takes. But the thing is Okay, Matt,
- 3:23So you wrote this plot point where we have a new comic book store
- 3:27on Springfield, a really fun, interesting development, right, And I'm sitting
- 3:30here thinking as a fan, holy shit, is Jack going to be a
- 3:34recurring character as this new comic book store, Because by the end of the
- 3:37episode, there's no explanation about getting back to the status quo. It is
- 3:40assumed he must be still there. Yes, indeed, now do you want
- 3:44to continue? Because yes, I'm okay, I'm nearly done, right,
- 3:46so I'm gonna I'm not gonna stop it, so I can't stop it.
- 3:50So it got to the end of the episode, and you don't have to
- 3:53get back to the status quo every time, right, but least explain something,
- 3:55right, you have to see it go full back to the statusquad but
- 3:58explain something. You can't introduce Coolsville as a comic book store. Comic book
- 4:02Guy goes out of business, March opens up shapes in return in its place
- 4:08and never reference it again for the whole episode, because as a viewer in
- 4:10two thousand and seven, I would have been sitting there going, okay,
- 4:13cool. Next episode is going to be now Coolsville's giving the new comic book
- 4:15Store. They never referenced Coolsville again. Ever, why did I have the
- 4:20ball? No? No, I'm going to do two things. Yeah.
- 4:24First of all, I'm going to suggest that the writers of the show Matt's
- 4:28elman at all in the writer's room, maybe gave themselves a bit of an
- 4:30escape hatch. Then secondly, I'm going to do Matt and his pals are
- 4:33solid by fixing your episode. Fuck this guy, But isn't that guy who
- 4:42for what how many fingers? Just that one to me? Sorry, I
- 4:50love you, you didn't you didn't buy me dinner? We invited you?
- 4:56And is the bet I invited guy to that dinner and he's like, no,
- 4:59no, no, not by the And then at the end, I
- 5:00was like, oh, we went for dinner with Phil Rosenfall and Matt and
- 5:01he was like, well, don't to me, I would it come?
- 5:03And I'm like, because it was just me, that's correct. Okay,
- 5:11I will say that in the very early stage of this episode where they're talking
- 5:15about, you know, the the various comic book imprints and how yeah,
- 5:19this happened, but you know it wasn't continuity all that kind of stuff.
- 5:23They're sort of planning a seed for, like what happens in this episode doesn't
- 5:28really happen. It's not canon. It's just it's just a bunch of stuff
- 5:30that happens. It's not a great escape patch, but it's it's sort of
- 5:34plausible deniability on their part. Perhaps perhaps I'm not saying this is actual fact,
- 5:39but it's one way that I read it. I don't say that I
- 5:41approve of it, but I'm saying that it's happened. Second thing is,
- 5:44here's where I fixed the episode, because okay, you've got two competing businesses
- 5:48in that you've got the Androids Dungeon and now you've got Coolsville. The way
- 5:51I would set it up is comic book guy is annoying, and you know,
- 5:57he overcharges and he's rude to the customers, all this kind of stuff,
- 6:00but he's legit. He legitimately loves comic books, he loves the law,
- 6:06everything about it, and you know he'll he's like you need to throw
- 6:10in the scene where he actually sort of steers someone in the right direction,
- 6:13goes, well, if you actually like that coming book, you would probably
- 6:15enjoy this win very that. I just couldn't believe they didn't go back.
- 6:17This would have been a great b plot to go back to throughout the episode.
- 6:20Yeah, and that's the thing. You make him legit. But then
- 6:24Colesville sets up Milo looks like a great guy, talks the talk, doesn't
- 6:28necessarily walk the walk in what way, but they already established it. He
- 6:30knows a lot about superheroes and he brings Yeah, I think you need to
- 6:34make him like a real opportunity, Like there's money and then their comic book
- 6:39stores and he's done his reading. But he's a pretender, he's a poser,
- 6:44and you know, it's sort of makes a super fan with money.
- 6:46Yeah, he's who brought the monorail. What's what's the Lanley? Yeah,
- 6:51he's a Lyle Lanley comic to that extent. But no, no, no,
- 6:54but yeah, he's a bit of a he's a bit of a charlatan,
- 6:58you know. And at the end, you know, like, uh,
- 7:00well the money's falling out of the comic book thing. I'm going to
- 7:01go open a something other store. I'm going to go open a frozen yogurt
- 7:05store because that's where the money is. Now. Yeah, true, I
- 7:08think that. I think the way they could have done it was maybe he
- 7:11wasn't a fan of radioactive Man or something, and that's Springfield's go to heroes
- 7:14and a radioactive man. Yeah, or yeah, he gets busted, sort
- 7:17of saying to Strawberry, his girlfriend, these kids are so amazing hanging out
- 7:23with his comic book nerds. Everyone inteslbs, Yeah, making a gabbo.
- 7:29Everything is improved by making them a gabbo. Now that's your your b plot.
- 7:33And you have that sort of you have nice double helix going on where
- 7:36Marge is opening an authentic gym. Is she still successful? Don't know that
- 7:43everyone that everyone's into, But she gets overrun by like the fake post gym,
- 7:50like La body Works or whatever. They do some weird thing to basically
- 7:55screw her out of her business. It restores the sautus quo, and you've
- 7:59got two storylines that sort of intersecting and sort of interconnected. But one shows
- 8:03that yeah, authenticity wins out and the other one goes no where suckers and
- 8:07we'll fall for We'll fall for a ruse if it's done, and if it's
- 8:11wrapped up in a nice packaging to little package and they will package. Look
- 8:16this, this needs work on my part, but I think that would be
- 8:20I think that's something you could do in the course of you know, minutes,
- 8:24twenty two minutes. I was just fiber gas. They didn't go back
- 8:30to it. I thought, you you got Jack Black. Hell are you
- 8:33not using Jack Black in the time that he's there. It feels like Jack
- 8:39Black is giving one hundred and fifty percent. Yeah, yet he's not given
- 8:43a whole lot. He's he was given fifty percent worth of material and he
- 8:46gave one hundred and fifty percent in effort. I don't know. It just
- 8:48didn't feel like if you told me this was a really good Jack Black impersonator,
- 8:54I would maybe think that, or you wrote we wrote we wrote this
- 9:00for someone who wouldn't be great if we got Jack Black to do this like
- 9:01Jack Black and then be full Jack Black, and then you actually got Jack
- 9:05Black to do it. It's just fun to say Jack Black. It's a
- 9:07great name. But I just it seems like a great guy he would have
- 9:11been. He would have been willing to stick around for the full twenty two
- 9:13minutes. You could have got a twenty two minute story out of just that
- 9:16plot. I reckon probably would have been better if it's just been a B
- 9:18pluck. You would have kept the best bits just Jack Black, just spliced
- 9:22throughout the episode. But he's also I think we all of him because we
- 9:26think he's a lovely, big bear of a dude in just general coolness.
- 9:28I want to see him turn heel. I'm sure he can do a heel
- 9:31turn. Hills Bowser exactly does a heel turn. So he does a heel
- 9:35turn, and they're like, ah, these kids, fuck them. Exact
- 9:39words, exact words, Matt Selman. They're not going to be winners.
- 9:43No, all of guys ideas. But anyway, that's what that's what I
- 9:46thought could have been done in this episode. And as a critic, I
- 9:54kind of respect recently said about a movie that everyone thought was going to be
- 9:56popular turn out not to be that popular when you're thinking about the better version
- 10:01of a movie while you're watching the actual movie that shows that movie does not
- 10:05work. Yeah, I said that comment on that YouTube video on the Mac
- 10:09and Me soundtrack, saying I want to see the movie that Allen especially thought
- 10:11he was scoring. Absolutely, but I'll just got here in my notes.
- 10:16Are we now entering the era where status quo is just assumed rather than explained?
- 10:22Because that's going to bother me. I think that is The Simpsons has
- 10:26established itself as a show that they always get back to the status quo,
- 10:31but they give us a reason or explanation as to how and why. It
- 10:33can't just be that my dog's bike. It would be the Postman. I
- 10:37reckon dropping off my DVD's umbrellant detainment movie The Legitimate Friends. But if you
- 10:43barging, it's Jet, the lovable Jet. We love him here for thinking
- 10:46discount. I don't think anyone's going to complain if they hear willfully here's the
- 10:50going buddy. Yeah man, But the thing is so the status quo,
- 10:52right, they always explained how and why. I don't want to get to
- 10:56an end of an episode as a viewer, right, So, say two
- 10:58thousand and seven, I was watching this, you would ended this episode and
- 11:01think, oh, Marge's now go a successful franchise and they're rich, and
- 11:05Comic book Guy is no longer in business, and Cools is a new store,
- 11:09and Jack Black's going to be a recurring character as the owner of the
- 11:11store. No next episode. It's literally just nothing happened. Comic book stores
- 11:15opened again, no shapes, and Coolsville's non existent. How does that happen?
- 11:18I don't know. That's as I said, Matt, I love you,
- 11:22but that has taken the viewers for granted. I think, because you've
- 11:26got to explain something. We are willing to accept status quo. Whatever absurd
- 11:30explanation to give us will take it up. By this point, right,
- 11:33major development, but don't just go it doesn't matter. They'll just forget about
- 11:37the week after. That's not what Simpson's fans do. And that's I think
- 11:39why a lot of people, if this is a recurring thing, maybe that's
- 11:43why people jumped off the show for a while or now. Still, that
- 11:46makes a lot of sense to me, because if I'm watching a show that
- 11:48I dedicated so long for and I've watched for so long, I love it,
- 11:52and then all of a sudden they just started having storylines that don't have
- 11:54endings, and then the next episode is just like, Oh, that doesn't
- 11:56happen, that never happened, that doesn't exist. That would bother me to
- 12:00the point where, gay, well you don't, you don't respect me as
- 12:01a viewer anymore. Well, something where it's this pivotal, it's huge.
- 12:05It really guys out of business. The Simpsons are now rich and rich,
- 12:09successful with a gym franchise, and it's just not existent in the following episode.
- 12:15So you have actually had the surgery in March has to spend all of
- 12:18their fortune to get home and back to normal. Something stupid like that,
- 12:20right, Actually, yeah, that works, just something silly. I don't
- 12:24just give us something, give me something. I don't think. I think
- 12:28we would probably be griping about if March Blue of fortune on restoring home at
- 12:33a home. But still, yeah, you would feel like, oh,
- 12:37well, at least they've made the effort to revert us back to factory settings.
- 12:41Yeah, just I wanted something and just really annoyed me. That was
- 12:45my rant that you established all these changes. And we know Matt doesn't he
- 12:50doesn't care about Cannon and all that kind of thing. Right, that's fine,
- 12:52but he always falls back on that each episode lives in his own bubble.
- 12:56But you got to this is too pivotal. Yeah, like Comic book
- 13:00Guy's been there. From the season two, the Androids Dungeons are a big
- 13:03part of the show. The Simpsons are now rich, Marge is hugely successful
- 13:07with a gym franchise. You have to take that away from her. Yeah,
- 13:11of course I'm gonna like my idea. But I do like my idea.
- 13:13Yeah, Milo the comic book guy being yeah, just a fly by
- 13:18night operator who's like, well, well, there's no money in comic books
- 13:20anymore, so like, look, I'm gonna go do something else. All
- 13:24the kids are like, but we trusted. He's like that, that's your
- 13:26bad luck, mate, where's comic book guy? He can't do anything else?
- 13:31You know, he could have done, He could have had maybe kind
- 13:33of like cartman Land right recently, where I actually just can't know someone to
- 13:35that at all. But you know, gone down the South check it out
- 13:37if you haven't already. So comic book guy goes out of business. Coolsville's
- 13:41going well, and then after a while the guy Milo realizes, oh shit,
- 13:46like there's no money in this, like I'm losing a ton of money.
- 13:48Corm book go goes, well, well, well I can take it
- 13:50over for you, and he takes over and he becomes a new owner of
- 13:52Coolsville just turns it back into the dungeon. Yeah, you're lasting to see,
- 13:56is the cools who design can be down and like or just a a
- 14:00really makeshift siut of like Androids Dungeon. Yeah, because the Androids Dungeon has
- 14:03been completely gutted and turned into the Shapes. Yeah what you or you get
- 14:09a fancied up big Androids dungeon in the cool Ville. At least have Marge
- 14:13sell the franchise of Shapes to somebody, right, maybe maybe comp guy,
- 14:16I don't know it anyway, and it's Rich Texan Or was it Lindsay Nagel
- 14:22who was at La body Works that looked or that kind of it wasn't it
- 14:26was them swooping. Yeah, it's like, Marge, we really like your
- 14:30body positively, gym. We think that's really the way that it's fleet to
- 14:33Peter against the Petzel Wagon. Yeah, and then they buy it and they
- 14:35just turn into La body Works or whatever it is, and that's it,
- 14:37and then you just have take over calls Villain turn it back into the Androids.
- 14:41As I said, I really liked that idea of authenticity wins on one
- 14:46hand, and corporate cynicism wins. On the other hand, that strikes me
- 14:48as classic Simpsons, It really does. You could end the episode with him
- 14:52getting all those quirky comics that weren't normally availble in Springs FLD and going no,
- 14:56thank you, put them in the bin or something, and then you
- 14:58have Alan Moore up top coat that fucking guy. Yeah, yeah, being
- 15:01classic Alan Moore grump. Yeah. Just that's it. That's what we had
- 15:05to do. That's all you had to do, man, that's all you
- 15:07have to do. Mat We worked it out in twenty minutes. My favorite
- 15:13What were your favorite moments of the episode if you did have any, though
- 15:16I don't know my revised version. I didn't mind the I'm going to the
- 15:20successful Ladies room with the dollar sign on the lady as a gay look,
- 15:26despite what we were saying about cools will cause we're a little pretty neat by
- 15:30the way, I enjoyed this episode. Just that structure bothered me, but
- 15:33overall the episode I actually enjoyed. This is one of those episodes where I
- 15:39liked the idea, I like the foundation, and I just don't think it
- 15:41was executed all that well. Okay, yeah, in what way? Oh,
- 15:46they didn't have an ending. Yeah, there's that. Yeah, the
- 15:48whole as you were saying about this feels like canon. Now. It was
- 15:54weird, wasn't it. And then when it got to the end, you
- 15:54went, oh, because how do you write an episode? I have a
- 15:58beginning, middle, and end. It's like they've got to the two thirds
- 16:00into the episode and went and that's the end of the episode. But where's
- 16:03the end? What? It honestly felt like a first draft of an episode
- 16:08as opposed to an episode or a bunch of ideas that we had for an
- 16:11episode, and it neithered one or two more passes of like, Okay,
- 16:18how do we make this work? How do we fold this into this?
- 16:21At least home it's not being a jerk in recent episodes, but in this
- 16:22one here this isn't having being a jerk. He's sort of living the high
- 16:26life. But then he realizes, oh shit, I need to up my
- 16:29game here she's going to replace me. So he's constantly trying to find a
- 16:33way to please Marche. It's not him just I feel like last season even
- 16:37they would have had Homer just being an absolute dick and spending all the March's
- 16:40money all the time on useless shit. He wasn't doing it if she just
- 16:42sitting by a pool, enjoying, enjoying life, enjoying the extra money.
- 16:45And in the rest of the episode, he was spent trying to work out
- 16:49how to keep Marge, which I thought was nice. Yeah, no,
- 16:52I think I agree with you on that point. And I'd go over the
- 16:53top, which you and I would do if we thought were losing the love
- 16:56of the weazon on they we'd go over the top and get tea ducks and
- 16:59antipoles and whatnot. Look the reason I started to zero out a bit of
- 17:06sugar from my diet and you know, get my steps and everything. I
- 17:08was like, I better keep myself in shave with the lovely Louise. Things
- 17:11I enjoyed about this episode. I enjoyed Caulsville. I mean it reminded me
- 17:15of maybe the first time that I set foot in a That's what I thought,
- 17:19in a comic book store, like going to a place like Minataur in
- 17:22Melbourne and Geelong had its own Minotaur for a while. When you find that
- 17:26place that has obscure shit, you're like, I've always wanted to see this,
- 17:29all my favorite books in one place. You were talking about Premiere the
- 17:32magazine when you went first availed in Australia, the movie magazine, when you
- 17:36discover something that you thought, oh my god. That there was a news
- 17:38agency in Norlay and here in Gelan's where I grew up right and they were
- 17:42the only place locally that stocked the Simpson's comics. And there was another news
- 17:47agency about, I don't know, ten minute drive away. They didn't have
- 17:49it. But I went to this other particularly when they had the Simpsons comics,
- 17:52and I'm like, thank you, because you're the only source of this.
- 17:56That's what cool feels like. You know, we're finding that place,
- 17:57that store that stock something that you couldn't find anywhere else. Absolutely. Yeah,
- 18:02so you really feel like, oh my home, my people. Yes,
- 18:06yeah, I mentioned Alan Moore before. I love that they just played
- 18:08up his reputation as a notorious grump. He hated Viva Vendetta or something.
- 18:12He did want his name in the credits Watchmen as well. I think they
- 18:15made the Watchman movie when Zack Snyder made it, it was like, not
- 18:19really my Watchmen, even though you know, it's pretty faithful adaptation in a
- 18:22lot of ways. Yeah. Yeah, but I liked how they were just
- 18:27sort of playing him up and then occasionally what was he singing about it?
- 18:30Little Lulu or he was reading that one? Yeah, singing the song.
- 18:33I thought that was quite funny. Also, I don't know if it's been
- 18:37memed a whole lot, but I certainly have it in my image just folder
- 18:41no no house, holding up Watchman Baby's Viva Vacation. I don't know that
- 18:47was But what what mean do you use that for? Okay, it's not
- 18:49really a memes just yeah, someone had screenshot at once. That's pretty funny.
- 18:55I'm probably can use it as a rejoint as a witty bit of banter.
- 19:00This is another example, by the way of an episode post season ten
- 19:02has a classic mean moment, Homer with the back fat. So it's like
- 19:06when you're trying to explain someone's hiding something to have coming from the front and
- 19:08you coat home from behind, and that gets used so often. I'm putting
- 19:12a list together, guys, of classic moments that get meaned every single day
- 19:17in The Simpsons. Groups that don't come in the first what you call the
- 19:19Golden era. So all you people with a bitch that The Simpsons is no
- 19:23good. Post season ten what you using screencaps post season ten? That's my
- 19:27question. Sounds a little hypocritical, little bit a little bit. I thought
- 19:33they're sneaking some pretty risquee lines into the Simpsons recently. Tell me, well,
- 19:37we had the Tress of horoweels love. I love watching you do other
- 19:41men? Right, Yes, this one here, they say, you like
- 19:44a really big black one. You also saw the hands, Yeah, yeah,
- 19:48And I was like, I was like, oh my, what else
- 19:52did you enjoy? I this isn't a line, This isn't a visual gag.
- 19:56I just like the shot of Homer and Marge walking handed handed the end
- 20:00through the park where Jebedi Springfield statue is right on the bench, is a
- 20:04poor man duel, just sitting there enjoying each other's company. And the background
- 20:07you see Flanders throwing the frisbee. I think it's Todd, right, is
- 20:11the oldest one throwing the frisbee of Rod. It was just a nice little
- 20:15moment of just Springfield in the field community. I was like, we don't
- 20:18get much of this anymore, and I'm seeing just them throwing the frisbee is
- 20:21like they didn't need to put those there in the background. It just added
- 20:22that sense of community. I liked it. Yeah, I mean I think
- 20:26something that appealed to a lot of Simpsons fans in the early days. And
- 20:30as you say, they quite unquite golden era. Is that balance of as
- 20:33I mentioned before, ah, sweetness and cynicism or authenticity and cynicism. I
- 20:40mean it's gonna the show was gonna say, look, the world kind of
- 20:44suck sometimes and occasionally the bad guys will win. But you know, if
- 20:48you've got a good support network of family, people, we love friends,
- 20:52all that kind of business can't help see you through. And the show will
- 20:56balance those two elements very very well at its best. Radio Bart's a perfect
- 21:00example where everyone wanted to help little Timmy and they found it Bart was screwing
- 21:03them over, like ah, fuck back yod. It's a old, good,
- 21:07old fashion hold. And when and when the balance is off, you
- 21:10can feel like you're trying too hard to be something you're not, or you're
- 21:15steering too hard into what you think we want and now we've just got it's
- 21:21too sweet. My teeth are rotting in my head, or we're just in
- 21:22an ear of The Simpsons where it's very cynical and everyone seems to be angry
- 21:26at each other or mean to each other. Lenny and Karl a perfect example.
- 21:29What's happened to Lenny and Karl. I don't know everyone's mean, but
- 21:32seeing this lovely just set up. It's just the scene of flannels of the
- 21:37Frisbee a poor man. George is saying anything to sit there, hold each
- 21:40other's hand. I thought this was nice. So when when was this?
- 21:42When did this air? This is one thousand and seven, two thousands.
- 21:45Okay, you're still in America, at least you're in the tail end of
- 21:49the George W. Bush era. It's still it's essentially post nine to eleven.
- 21:55America is kind of a cynical place. I mean, that's why it's
- 21:56why Obama got elected in two thousand and eight, because brought us hope.
- 22:00Well, comedy was just very cynical on that. But our family guy was
- 22:03still quite popular, and yeah, the culture reflects that. Yeah, it's
- 22:07got a bit of a bitter aftertaste. If you're a fan of everything we

- 24:18So I uploaded Treos of Horror eighteen before I uploaded the Cage Bird Sings
- 24:25episode with the you know Marge getting the bank robbery right, guest starring Steve
- 24:30exactly right. So I've uploaded that one tonight as we're recording this, so
- 24:33you got like a double whammy, right. It's the first time that's ever
- 24:37happened. But it was nice to see some people write in and go,
- 24:40excuse me, but I believe episode four if mithing from the feed, I'm
- 24:45sure the people who rode in to point out your eraror will really appreciate you
- 24:48doing it that I was gonna say, by the way, guys, that's
- 24:51a complete joke, because I also loved im, like, hey, Dan,
- 24:53I don't want to be that guy. I just wondering is that episode
- 24:56coming? Did you record it? Because I really like I was like,
- 24:57you know what, it's nice knowing because they get they're going I really like
- 25:00to I want to hear the review of that episode. I'm like, it's
- 25:03nice. No known people are listening. And by the way, I'm pretty
- 25:03sure at least one person was like, Dan, do we think you get

- 25:22Bak episode, So do right into the show mailbag and four figure Discount dot
- 25:25com dot Au and JP time to share. Next question you there eating the
- 25:30Beast Trivia, hit me with your first question on the cover of Born Again,
- 25:36Robin. What is Robin saying? I don't know. Holy Trinity Batman,
- 25:41Holy Trinity Batman. My first question for you is when did Superman take
- 25:45over Gotham City? What comic Oh World's Finest. Yeah, seventy four.
- 25:51I've got ninety four, but you could be No, I think you might
- 25:52be right, right, Okay, yeah it was a four, But yeah,
- 25:55I think you might be correct. I think I think we're bringing a
- 25:57lot of trivia from the comic. My next one is not I don't why
- 26:02I got too. I'll find another one, but yeah, I've got plenty.
- 26:03We'll actually go four. What's the name of super Girl's horse comment comment,
- 26:10Yeah, Sasha teaches which class at all? A body works? You?
- 26:14Sasha, No, I don't. It's alliteration. Clue t t it
- 26:19is because it's tummy tone, tummy tone. Well, with that in mind,
- 26:23you get zen abs with who it's Zach something it's Zach g I was
- 26:30gonna say Zach Gene. I thought it's it's a nice combination of Zach pu
- 26:33it's too. Yeah, if you two want to get Mayby, that'd be
- 26:37nice. All right. My next question for you is, I'll go from
- 26:41the comic book st a bit easier. Milo covers comic book guy who's standing
- 26:45in the window with a standy of who's the hut? Yes, while we're
- 26:49there, Milo's girlfriend Strawberry. Her purse is a lunchbox. Who was on
- 26:56that lunch book? Good question? What is it? It's Malibus Stacy Malibu,
- 26:59Stacey weird. You wouldn't think Strawberry, the girlfriend of Mila would have
- 27:03Meloby Stacey on her unless she's being ironic. Probably, so tell let's get
- 27:11into our view of husbands and knives, shall we. So? The visual
- 27:14air date November eighteenth, two thousand and seven. Production code j AB F
- 27:17one seven, written by the amazing, legendary, stupendous Matt Salmon, Can
- 27:22Do No Wrong, Can do No Wrong. I think it's I think it's
- 27:26kind of appropriate. I mean, I think there's a lot of JAB production
- 27:30codes going to have a JAB. So you've got JAB and you've got jabells
- 27:36as the as the guest are coincidence, probably written but I directed by Nancy
- 27:44Cruz. So guest starring Jack Black as Milo, and we also get Ye
- 27:48Daniel Dan Klaus as himself. Maurice mauris La Marsh was one of the boyfriends,
- 27:51one of the trophy husbands. Maurice just rocks up everywhere. Now he's
- 27:55the go to guys. He's the man with the golden tonsils. Might not
- 27:56make it take advantage, yeah, Alan Moore and speak on the spigger one
- 28:00Yes, apparently so sang and Lee is the Korean singer doing the Tom Jones
- 28:06songs. Perhaps so. The episode kicks off with They're in the comic book
- 28:11store and they're just perusing around and I've just got this was by the way,
- 28:14did you mention the cook you've done the trop into the chop? Because
- 28:17I had both of them, this one didn't it. Yeah, the pilgrims
- 28:18were not illegal aliens. I'm just so used to them skipping it now.
- 28:22Yea, and the couch gave two hands with five fingers instead of four.
- 28:25Open up a pop up book to reveal the family sitting on the couch.
- 28:27Pop up books. They may skip it. That's no excuse for us to
- 28:30skip it. No, not at all. Yeah, so kicks off within
- 28:33the comic book store, and it just took me back to I'd go to
- 28:36town. I'd say, monk, can we go to card Mania, which
- 28:37would evolve into pop culture where we both used to work right right by the
- 28:41way. If you like records, you see a bunch of records behind me
- 28:44here, pop culture records. Check them out. Great comic books are great.
- 28:47Record store in Geelong so much. But walking around card Mania, it
- 28:52was just a different vibe. It was just kids. It was when the
- 28:55boom of Pokemon was on, as well as the kids on stopping their Pokemon
- 28:56cars. But they have action figures as well as like this is the only
- 29:00place that stucks this stuff. It was just it was my heaven card Mania.
- 29:03I loved it. Well yeah, main for me it's it was yeah
- 29:07Minotaur in Melbourne, which then opened in Geelong, but there was Minta.
- 29:08It was in Geelong where in Marble Street, No ship where this is completely
- 29:15local but I don't care, between Rory and Little Mallet where. Well how
- 29:21long ago was this? Oh god, this was in the late eighties,
- 29:22early night. Oh shit, okay, yeah wow over my first tie went
- 29:26to Minnatauri and Melbourne. I was like entering a new world. Oh yeah,
- 29:30I just go down those the escalator. Well, they had like three
- 29:33different locations of the first one that I went to was in like a little
- 29:38arcade near the Hoyts Mid City Cinema. I've never been to a Hoyt cinema
- 29:41in my life, haven't you know? The best things in life passed your
- 29:45by? You know what they do as a collector, right, I'll collect
- 29:48ship as you can see. But Hout Cinema always have really good cinema cups.
- 29:53When the films come out, it seems like Hoyt cinemas into the ones
- 29:56that get the really cool shit. Oh I was very big on Hoints back
- 29:59in the day. It took a left turn into this little arcade that it
- 30:06seems to have netting bigamic books. Of course, when it's like wow,
- 30:10it's like we say, it's just fantastic one. It's like everything I want
- 30:14in one place. And it's like you see some of the stuff they stock
- 30:17and you think, surely you don't expect to sell this stuff but the fact
- 30:19that you've just got to hear is cool. Oh yeah, absolutely to peruse
- 30:23and never going to purchase, yeah, but purchased. But looking through the
- 30:27racks especially, that felt the variety. It felt incredibly old school as well.
- 30:32I mean, I think a lot of shops these days, a lot
- 30:33of comic book shops are they don't have that sort of array of like a
- 30:38well, big wooden box or whatever. You just now you're doing the bar
- 30:42thing, got it? Got it. That's what I like about old school
- 30:45video vinyl stores. It's like they've just got a section where it's like you're
- 30:48gonna flick through fantastic not just the classics. Yeah, so but bart's going
- 30:52through the comics. You think some of them are lame, then it's either
- 30:56a characterize or it's a various robber or a very thereof yes, but he
- 31:00finds the Wolverine with the PopOut clause, which cuts Millhouse and were speaking of
- 31:03Wolverine. Seen Wolverine everywhere dead put the moment. I'm kind of sick of
- 31:07seeing Wolverine. Yeah. Everyone's saying there's gonna be a big hit, gonna
- 31:11save the American movie summer. I'm like, you probably will. But Inside
- 31:15Out two has already done that. Bad Boys Right or Die already did that.
- 31:19By the way, talking about Will Smith coming up soon on Yeah TV
- 31:23Launch pot TV Launch probably just did episode three of the Fresh Prince of Ballet
- 31:26pilots. Basically, if you haven't heard yet, we go back and review
- 31:29the pilot episodes of some of our favorite shows, some shows that we don't
- 31:32like as well. You guys have the right in mailbagger forthing your discap dot
- 31:33com dot. Are you what show you like us to do the pilot of?
- 31:36But we did Bobs Burger's Buffet, The Van by Slayer, and Fresh
- 31:38Prince of Ballet, which I adored the pilot indeed, But yeah, Deadpool
- 31:41and Wolverine. Look, I'll go see it of course the same time,
- 31:47I don't know all the marketing around is just like you cant best. You
- 31:51can have your tongue wedge too firmly in your cheek. Whoa the infamous Wolverine
- 31:56comic with PopOut Claus? Why was this so kind reversal? Nice? Worked
- 32:06up your boo who your tears have smudged Wolverine's iconic sade burns. Hence you
- 32:10must buy this comic And the cost of your innocent accident is twenty five dollars.
- 32:16Peace if that's the money yeah yah, Sophia gave me for Greek Orthodox
- 32:21Easter when they tell me things about themselves. Twenty five dollars for the comic,
- 32:28which is equivalent about forty dollars, which is a lot for a kid.
- 32:30Absolutely for a comic. But what was the radioctive man numb one?
- 32:32I was about a hundred dollars I think for an episode from season two uns
- 32:35about Yeah, Bar says you're stop being mean? Why why are you so
- 32:38mean? Because he's had a monopoly all this time? Where else you gonna
- 32:42go to? You're going to go to the is it the laundry mat or
- 32:44are you gonna get the matter store? Whatever? News at eleven by the
- 32:45way, good name, Yes, and then he sees Colsville and he can't
- 32:49believe it. What's going on here? And they mentioned here it's like when
- 32:52Superman took over Gotham City. I think it was. That was a made
- 32:54up story Jimmy Olson did when he was kicking head by Supergirl's horse Comet.
- 32:59And Bart's like, none of this stuff really happened, and that's a comic
- 33:00book guy goes, get out of my store. So I feel like that
- 33:04was a good preface. Something could have happened with Milo saying something similar to
- 33:09annoy Bart, which makes Bart go back to the Androids dungeon. Yeah,
- 33:13and then everybody radio demand. He's like radio demand, he's not the greatest
- 33:15hero of all time. And then Bart goes, hang on a minute,
- 33:17you're not my comic book guy, you know, So that simple could have
- 33:22fixed. It doesn't matter, it doesn't matter. But he kicks him out
- 33:24and then they get introduced to Milo and he's got that the goatee, the
- 33:28little little sol patch. Yes, he's got the comic bees. In Australia
- 33:32we called it the nole patch. Really, yes, sure, yes,
- 33:37what's what little shnon ole patch? But and the Japanese hard candy. Hey,
- 33:42what up you guys? How good goes it? My name's Milo and
- 33:46this is Coolsville. Now listen before everyone chills with some sweet comic bees,
- 33:52everyone gets a free piece of Japanese hard candy. One for you short kidden
- 33:57back down, low, go along, I got on, I get myself
- 34:06at Dolphin Now. I hope you all like Korean pop covers of Tom Jones
- 34:12songs, because they're about to be blasted. I'm I'm young bushy. Whoa
- 34:22Wow, I can actually buy into this, This will actually happen. It's
- 34:29incredibly pandering. But at the same time, this is also the kind of
- 34:31thing that you want from from a from a from a place like this.
- 34:36It's like, Hey, maybe try this French comic book, Try this Japanese
- 34:38candy. Have you heard this Korean? There's a terrific sandwich shop down in
- 34:43Torque called Water Deli. They do fantastic It's really good. Not quite as
- 34:47good as Aswak, but no, that's still pretty good. But every time
- 34:52I go there, they've got this incredible playlist of like Italian pop songs or
- 34:55something like that. Okay, just feel automatically one cooler. You feel like
- 35:00you're in Italy. Oh yeah, but also in like the coolest part of
- 35:02it, and upset to them, like is this a playlist? Is this
- 35:07on Spotify? Something goes Yeah, the boss made it, and I made
- 35:10the playlist. Yeah, made the songs. I was like, the boss
- 35:13made this playlist, and I'm like, any chance of getting a linked that,
- 35:15Oh no, oh no, you can only hear it, but you
- 35:20won't give it away our secrets. It's like eleven Hebs and Spices. I
- 35:24am angry, but at the same time I respect it. I'd like to
- 35:29have this playing all the time at my place so it would feel kind of
- 35:31cool. But no, you guard your secrets, you guard your secret source.
- 35:37You're on Webon Herbs and Spices. You're right when they first said no,
- 35:39did you first think other than they're just joking and then went, oh
- 35:43you're serious. Yeah, I mean that they They weren't like, no,
- 35:46you don't get none of this. It was he keeps it to himself.
- 35:51I'm like, I got to respect the game, but you know, Tom
- 35:55Jones keep pop covers the Yeah, sorry, but yeah. Honestly, though,
- 36:00if you owned a store like this, wouldn't that be your aim to
- 36:05be like this is cool, but hey, you might want to check this
- 36:07out. What's what I liked about. We've talked about this, I think
- 36:09just recently Empire Records, how they just let people just put whatever records they
- 36:15want on in the store. And I was like, I missed that where
- 36:17you go to a video store and they'd put on like a movie that they
- 36:21recommend you should check out this one, or it was like the workers recommendations.
- 36:24They still have that a JB to some degree. They're phasing it out
- 36:30though we recommend so, and so it's like like that I like to have
- 36:32that Jamie recommends this. I'm like, I trust Jamie, got Steve,
- 36:37Jamie Steve. But he covers from were standing in the window sad covers in
- 36:42with the Jebb of the heart cup or cut out. He's playing Guitar Hero,
- 36:45which was huge at the time. I actually busted Guitar Hero out for
- 36:46Elliott about three weeks ago. Loved it, but loved watching me playing because
- 36:51it's still a little bit too hard from understanding the whole strumming at the right
- 36:53time, but the idea of playing the guitar is starting to sort of appreciate
- 36:57it was. It was the perfect game to have it party. Oh yeah,
- 37:00we're more like seventeen eighteen. You have to have a guitar who I
- 37:01set up somewhere in the room, and there's always at one dickheat though that
- 37:05I thought he was really good, and he was really good, but us
- 37:07like, it's a video game. Man, it's like karaoke. You don't.
- 37:10Yeah, occasionally you want someone who bust out some real good pipes,
- 37:14but mostly it's just like we're all just yelling. We're all we're all shit.
- 37:16Yeah. But Lisa finds her tinting comics, which are rare in Springfield.
- 37:20She rips it. He goes like, don't worry. These are made
- 37:22to be enjoyed. And I was like, that's what you want. Where
- 37:24it's like, you know when you have just mentioned here that not hoarded and
- 37:29sold when divorced, and I thought, you know what, Since having kids,
- 37:31I've realized she could just come out of packets, you know. I
- 37:34do like nerdaddy videos with the kids and back in the day, be like
- 37:37keep in the box, make sure they don't get damage. Now, like
- 37:38Ali goes, come open this, I'm like, why not? Oh yeah,
- 37:42who cares something read something great that I read the other day, So
- 37:45something I'm aiming to live by. Someone said, oh, oh you're getting
- 37:50this high end coffee. It must be for special occasions, I said,
- 37:52and I drink this all the time. Being alive is as special occasion as
- 37:55it gets. Yeah, remember that being alive is a occasion as it gets
- 38:00every day. You appreciate it every day. I appreciate it. All right.
- 38:04I get it. You're cool, You're not mainstream. You wear a
- 38:07pork pie hat. Pork pie. I thought the cutaway here was so family
- 38:14guy and bizarre because looking at him there with his port pie hat and just
- 38:16cuts to home and go, hmm, poor pie. Yeah, that was
- 38:20it was like, what the hell? That was so family guy? That
- 38:22was very much so. I was like, wait a minute, so we're
- 38:25here now, but we're not going out? Had it home? And I
- 38:29don't know, so bizarre, but he questions his superhero what you need?
- 38:31Was he here? Sort of like a faint echo of anything, Yeah,
- 38:37anything food related? Home is going to pick on on by his magical hunger
- 38:40SONA I don't know, questions is superhero knowledge Thungue versus Mulk? Who would
- 38:45win? But then he says the butt, who do you think? He's
- 38:47like, oh my god, you care what I think? Oh my god,
- 38:51Coolsville artists signing now. Marge drops him off. Enjoy your funny books.
- 38:54And this is where the March story starts, essentially because she sees the
- 38:57Wonder Woman's standy. This is another group of Marge has never changed body shape
- 39:01for the entire series. She's always been a milf. She's been sexy.
- 39:05Everyone's always gone Marge is sexy right now, she's apparently overweight and needs to
- 39:09lose weight. What are we doing here? Yeah? I'm not doing with
- 39:12this body shaming. It felt really odd, like Marge is not fat,
- 39:16no at all, She's really skinny. Yeah, and you I don't think
- 39:21she would start having body image problems based on one standy. No. I
- 39:28think there should be messages all throughout Springfield that are sort of giving her an
- 39:31impressions like hmm, I don't look like this, because then the boys are
- 39:36like calling her fat as well, and I'm like, what do you mean?
- 39:38Yeah, that whole thing with the three bullies was just that they don't
- 39:43they don't know what to do with these bullies anymore. They don't they've they've
- 39:45emasculated them to where the kids aren't really even necessarily scared of them anymore.
- 39:50It's more just infighting, goofballs. Now, it's just yeah, Lenny and
- 39:53Carl don't tend to know who they are anymore. The three three bullies,
- 39:58I don't know what they're doing with them anymore. It's bizarre odd. Yeah,
- 40:00And whenever I see them now on the screen, I go, remember
- 40:04last the last week, I'm talking about Willie. He'll buy your drinks,
- 40:06but you'll make your share. I was like, these guys aren't funny.
- 40:08No, I mean, what are you trying to make him like Statler and
- 40:10would of something from The Muppet Show? Who were good? They were good.
- 40:15I finally finished Jim Henson documentary. Oh yeah, I did not expect
- 40:17the chapter to be Jim Jim Henson womanizer, just divorce in his late forties,
- 40:23like he didn't want to Loncho a relationship he is like dating. I
- 40:27was like, god, Jim, Wow, that's a good Jim was getting
- 40:31busy. Yeah, but basically so Marge here, she's now body conscious.
- 40:37Kearney mocks her and then Dolph mocks his mum, calls her fat just a
- 40:39whole bunch of fat Jamie Man. Marge thinks she still looks over at the
- 40:43combook Guy's store, which is going out of business. That's the last we
- 40:46see of it. And then lastly he's even mentioned and she envisions shapes where
- 40:51she's getting the money for shapes. I'm not too sure. That's a really
- 40:53good point. Yeah, Lisa, you can't believe all these artists are here,
- 40:57though, she says, I think it's to Dan I identified with ghost
- 41:00Well, the girls in ghost World. He's like, I don't care,
- 41:02do you know an know what works at Batman? I want to draw Batman.
- 41:05And these three appearances felt like as a kid watched this, I wouldn't
- 41:08have any clue they are. This was we like these guys, We're going
- 41:12to get them onto the show. Yeah, it felt the authors on.
- 41:15Yeah, it felt very much like a schedule, and he was like,
- 41:17we can finally get all three of them at once. Yeah, so let's
- 41:22do it. It also felt like a decade and a half too late for
- 41:24because I think the glory days of art BigMan's Mouse. I've forgotten when Ghostworld
- 41:30came out, but that felt like late nineties, maybe early two thousands and
- 41:36Alan Moore. I mean, Alan was an absolute legend in the comics game,
- 41:38and you know his big well, his Big Watchman book was probably late
- 41:45eighties as well. I mean, all these names are still recognizable among those
- 41:49in the know, if you know, you know. But it also felt
- 41:52like, yeah, just a little too little, too late. Yeah,
- 41:55but I mean it's a fine guest appear. Oh yeah, they're goo.
- 41:59Yeah, they're good appearance. Yeah. But at the same time just yesterday's
- 42:01news in some ways. But the thing is, that's it. Basically,
- 42:05so coma guy enters attention. Comic book officionados, This man is not one
- 42:10of us. He has a girlfriend. My name Strawberry. My purse is
- 42:16a lunchbox. Now listen up, my we weird little fanboys. I have
- 42:22the most wonderful news. My store now sells ninja weapons. Whoa you would
- 42:29sell weapons of the Orient to children? That is weak face of facts has
- 42:34been This man is the comic book guy our town deserves pretty will. I
- 42:37guess the mature thing to do is you do see a lot of stores selling
- 42:45random ship that try and keep up with Yeah, they mock him. So
- 42:50he destroys everything and the leagu of extraordinary freelancers activate and how do you like
- 42:53this punchline? They beat him up and that's it. That's the end of
- 42:58the comic book story in this whole episode. Could not believe my eyes.
- 43:00I kept sitting there watching it, going when are we going back to the
- 43:02story? Yeah, I thought, I'm like, that's the poster, Like,
- 43:06that's the marketing for the episode was Milo Coolsville. That's how it was
- 43:09market on TV. That's why are we going to another March Homer story?
- 43:14I mean, this Marge story could have been this oame episode. I think,
- 43:16so, Yeah, it's what a weird set up for a March opening
- 43:21a gym. That's she gets my understanding and goes, oh, I'm fat
- 43:23I need to start a gym now. It feels really odd. I mean,
- 43:29I hate to keep using the phrase A bunch of ideas that were sort
- 43:30of lying around on that. That's why then I go together, because they
- 43:35couldn't actually intertwine them. That just went here's one episode and here's the next
- 43:37one. It was like two episodes just emagulated together. It was weird.
- 43:40Not a fan at all. But Marge then arrives at La Bodyworks, so
- 43:45she's shown the various classes, including Mummy and Me kickboxing, and then the
- 43:49treadmills me getting okay go reference here, which was kind of time because that
- 43:52was two thousand and six. My kids love that theme song. I always
- 43:54really appreciated that those guys went the extra yard to make a really cool film
- 43:59clip. Oh. Absolutely, our clips aren'tally a thing anymore. I don't
- 44:00think does anyone watch film clips. I don't think so. No, Because
- 44:04when were kids growing up in the nineties, we had video hits and rage,
- 44:07and you watched the film clips. That was the only way to sort
- 44:08of get access to the song unless you heard on the radio or you purchased
- 44:12it, right, I mean now, I guess you would make it for
- 44:15TikTok. We still put on YouTube. I'm assuming there's still videos. I
- 44:19think imagine you put your artist name the bo thing or whatever, but people
- 44:24aren't. It's not put in front of the same eyeballs. Basically, when
- 44:27we're growing up, it was here's the top ten, watched the same songs,
- 44:30and it's like the following week it's now number three, and it's back
- 44:32to number two. That's number seven. But so yeah, so we get
- 44:36the okay go then Marge is being washing the shower by side show Mellen.
- 44:39Various people. I thought, what's the gag here? Showers aren't public gyms,
- 44:44No, But see it's something they didn't really flesh out all that well,
- 44:47the fact that a gym like La Body Works is more performative than it
- 44:52is actual pumping iron. It's not enough to actually put in the ails and
- 44:55do that and sweat up a storm. People have to see you doing it,
- 44:59and you have to look lamorous doing it, and that would extend the
- 45:00showers as well. It's like, well, you're constantly on show. It's
- 45:04like, well I've had a hard workout, now time to clean myself off.
- 45:07I might as well do it where people can see it. They didn't
- 45:08explain it all that well. I mean, it's not the sign of a
- 45:13bad episode, but the sign of an episode that could be better. When
- 45:15you're feeling in the blanks for it, or you're it's not making excuses for
- 45:19it. That's what I'm doing. I made a mistake. I apologize listeners.
- 45:22This is where she looks over the road because she's disappointed by l A
- 45:24Body where she feels like she can't go to this gym. That's when she
- 45:28envisioned Shapes. Because now comic book guys saw is going out of at a
- 45:31business which I thought was really I saw that, I went, oh,
- 45:34that's sad. I hope that's not canon. I'm glad the Android Dungeon is
- 45:37still around because that's such a core part of the show's identity. Identity.
- 45:43Yeah, that's what bart Mill has. That's where the kids hang out,
- 45:45that's their thing. And Coolsville seems like a really cool place at first,
- 45:50but I'm thinking Android's Dungeon just has that history. Yeah, and I think
- 45:53you'll find that it's dirty, it's grimy, that the owners mean, that's
- 45:55what a comic book store felt like. Yeah, and there are a lot
- 45:59of places like that. The will continually last because you know, they keep
- 46:01their rob heads low or they overcharge or whatever, and someone who's trying to
- 46:05cash in on the latest trend will invariably over capitalize move on, and it's
- 46:09like, ah, no, we can't afford to do this anymore, and
- 46:13blah blah blah. Yeah, but the life is staying. The life between
- 46:15Vision Shapes here, no men, no cell phones, no mirrors, no
- 46:19shame, And Homer questions, why would we want to go to a gym
- 46:22without men judging them and whatnot. It looks outside seas the line we're gonna
- 46:24be rich. We can start a family. We already have a family.
- 46:29We'll start a better family. If you're a fan of everything we do here

- 46:58Fourth Finger Discount now been booked out for months. Lisa's like the little secretary
- 47:01then at the desk, so she says he's gonn have to open up a
- 47:04second store when she does that, Crusty Burger, I can't believe the labor
- 47:09board is shutting me down. You lock your workers in at night, it's
- 47:15so they can't tell their stories. Mister krusty kent to by village. He
- 47:20said he would marry me. No ring, just fill apple pies all day.
- 47:24Now Marge's now a huge success. She's on the open show. My
- 47:29boyfriend thinks you too. And then she asked about popping the question everyone gets
- 47:32cocoo class. That was the thing for a while because Oprah wasn't married or
- 47:37something wrong. Well, she had the long term partner in Steadman yes aka
- 47:42straight man. Yes, okay, but yeah, the lady swapping her bababy
- 47:49finally yes, Now Palm Springfield Resort for the business trip. Homer steals the
- 47:52remote because no one's ever trust him with the remote before, but still that's
- 47:55why he steals it. Now Homer knows why pimps are so happy though.
- 47:59It was a funny line. And the other husbands they now they're introduced into
- 48:01the life of wife support and he realizes, here, oh shit, she's
- 48:06gonna be trading up soon because they went the first husband's They were the second
- 48:07husbands who do find it a little bit later though, that one of them
- 48:10is still a first husband. But he just gave himself the personal up fixed
- 48:14himself. Yeah, so I like they using car was are you sure I'm
- 48:17talking about cars, using a lot of words, card words. Homer says,
- 48:22don't worry. I'm the anchor that weighs her down. And you know,
- 48:25once she seems like happy and it was interested in talking about a day
- 48:29and she seems happy and full of life, that's when you know she's going
- 48:30to be moving on. So Homer goes in there, and of course she
- 48:34does all those things, all those things, and he starts starts crying and
- 48:37still at the same time without the business function, and Homer thinks he thinks
- 48:40they're talking about dumping Homer. They're talking about getting a new handbag. That's
- 48:43where we mentioned the whole really big black one and the hand gesture. Yeah.
- 48:47But she goes to the successful ladies room. There's my Homo six of
- 48:51advice from a man who was actually a first husband, not a second husband.
- 48:54He explains is how you get into shape, exercise, eat well,
- 48:58and dress nice. It's like hmm, stomach stapled homes. Now the plastic
- 49:05surgeon where they're correcting Gud's mistakes. That's the little sub pedline there, and
- 49:08the doc says, I can do it today. I didn't get the whole
- 49:10home, knocking himself out by riding the bill. What was yeah was that
- 49:15they were trying to say you thought he was going to be passing it because
- 49:16it was so expensive, but it was actually really cheap, and he still
- 49:19knocked himself out. It's not a very good joke. No, not really.
- 49:23I love that you at the table read that happens and you just sit
- 49:27there. It's not a very good joke. I wonder if you were at
- 49:30a Simpson's table read whether you would feel the need to have to laugh at
- 49:35things you didn't necessarily find all that funny. Do you think you could be
- 49:37honest if you went to a Simpsons table read now? Do you think you'd
- 49:40be talking about me? Or you and I get invited to a table read
- 49:45in six months, right we go there. Do you feel like you would
- 49:47be over enthusiastic and feel like, oh, yeah, that was really really
- 49:50good? Or do you think you'd be brutally honest? I like to think
- 49:52I would be something. I wouldn't be brutally honest, but I'd be like,
- 49:55may I suggest this? No you may not. Room. You're a
- 50:00guest here, but home is now thinner, says the underwet surgery to please
- 50:06Marge, you'd get your hot dog plumped. I thought, oh shit,
- 50:07oh yeah, that's like where do I get that? Where do I get
- 50:12that? But no, he's getting stomach staple. So he's blending out food.
- 50:16The gag at the end of this again, it's like I'm waiting for
- 50:20a punchline and all you had was more food toastes like baf Now, yes,
- 50:25but you didn't find a joke there though that we knew that was going
- 50:30to be the result. But that's not a joke. Yeah, I mean
- 50:32I would I would have preferred him blending the pizza into a paste or whatever,
- 50:37like him pouring into like a fancy wine glass or something. Yeah,
- 50:40do it like a sophisticated man, or putting into a tea cup and having
- 50:44like the little pinky. Yeah, like, hey you eat all the fizzy
- 50:47you like? Now Dad loopholes and then blends it up and drinks it.
- 50:52It's like something like that, but just a toste like buf Now what you
- 50:57didn't think of anything there? It's nothing margin And is the bedroom? Oh
- 51:00you remember I liked romance And he takes he takes off his robe, and
- 51:05this is where we get the I say iconic. I think in the Meme
- 51:07group. This is a very very very popular screen screen cap of the skin
- 51:12folded at the back, and then when she goes to give him a cuddle,
- 51:14he's moved around to the front. Yes, she puts you fold that
- 51:16old sweaty blanket and put it in the in the closet. Homer returns to
- 51:21the doctor. He's like, do you want me to unstaple you with the
- 51:22big staple? And he wants every other surgery you can offer so that he
- 51:29can look good, but please make sure it's an aortic valve replacement on the
- 51:32the film on the assurance, Yes, it tells him to count backwards from
- 51:37ten. Fine on drunk, goes to sleep, wakes up. Now we
- 51:40don't realize it's all a dream when he rocked up. I'm glad that was
- 51:44a dream because if he had to change his body that much would have gone.
- 51:47This is a this is really really family guy whacky. Now. Yeah,
- 51:52how would you have felt if it would have been made a little more
- 51:54obvious that it was a dream? Um? I like the it being the
- 52:00dream. It's just we didn't get an ending though. That was the problem,
- 52:04because I didn't mind being god because it was more of a relief.
- 52:07Because I saw it, I was like, oh this is I was gonna
- 52:08start running. This is ridiculous. And then I realized the dream. I
- 52:10thought, okay, well that's that's a relief. But still you didn't give
- 52:15us an out here. There's no ending. I mean, I would have
- 52:16liked it if he's, oh, we're undoing everything. It's like, can
- 52:20I keep the hair? Like just like no, and you rip it off
- 52:22And that's the I mean, I know that it's not to Dame, right,
- 52:25not sometimes saying not your Dame, well to Dame is the thing.
- 52:28I think the American College is not to Dame, okay, and the church
- 52:32in Paris is Notre Dame, okay, because I've always said the hunchback of
- 52:37Notre Dame. That's what I've always said. That's and you're correct to do
- 52:38so okay. So I guess they wanted to do the parody of the hunchback
- 52:43of Notre Dame, right, But I don't think this episode needed it.
- 52:45You could have had Marge just see Homer's like, you know, upcoming surgery
- 52:51or something going. What is this? He goes, I'm trying to make
- 52:52myself look good, homie. You don't need to do all that stuff.
- 52:54You know, you didn't need to have all this random shit because it just
- 52:59took up two minutes of up two minutes of the episode where you could have
- 53:01explained an ending for us. That's right. I agree with you. Because
- 53:07March in the dream, she has rewarded the one hundred dollars gift cup for
- 53:08sweatpants, etc. Homer arrives looking horrific. Quimby says, get to pitchforks,
- 53:13grab his Marge climbs notture Dame Springfield. He says, don't make me
- 53:16cry when my tea ducks are anymore. She says, I'm getting myself a
- 53:20new husband. I'm upgrading he and she pushes him off the edge and he
- 53:22wakes up. I thought, oh okay. And then Marge says she made
- 53:25the doctor return him to normal. The nurse is kissing her cross cause she
- 53:29had to give a sponge bath. Lisa says, I hope you learned something
- 53:30here, Dad, and Hope says, yes, plastic surgery is mistaken to
- 53:32we've perfected it and everybody should get it. And that's sort of it.
- 53:37We get Homer and Marge that, and I send them walking away and he
- 53:40asks, or what do you find it irresistible about me? She says,
- 53:44I still when I look at your still see the same adorable boy that I
- 53:46fell in love with originally. And then we get the artists flying around and
- 53:51they see the media and they prefer to go to the Benefit for the Undappreciated
- 53:54Artists or whatever, and they got to the cash bar rather than put it
- 53:57the media. And there's a media coming towards Earth, and I thought this
- 54:01landing was not stuck. This is all incredibly random. This was a tailspin.
- 54:07How did I just I know I'm repeating myself listeners, but how do
- 54:10you not end bring back the status quoe with cools Coolsville was such a fun
- 54:15setup. I really enjoyed that first act. It was a lot of fun.
- 54:17Plus, if Milo has to sell up or sell out or whatever to
- 54:22comic book Guy, I think you've got some pretty fertile material for comic book
- 54:27Guy trying to keep Coolsville. Cools will but it gradually, over the course
- 54:31of a few episodes just becomes the Android's dungeon again. Yeah, I don
- 54:35think it'd be a nice visual gag. I mean, I don't think it'd
- 54:37be too complicated. Or expensive to do. I think classic Simpsons they would
- 54:40have just somehow turned it back into the Androids dungeon again, but just bigger.
- 54:44Maybe. Yeah, I think that's not a bad idea. I was
- 54:45just flabbergasted that we didn't get an end to this. But anyway, overall,
- 54:52I enjoyed the episode right, there was things you could have fixed,
- 54:54but to not have an ending just is a real black cloud for me.
- 55:00Yeah, I'm occasionally fine with episodes that you can rework or that while you're
- 55:02watching, going well, I would do this. I would do that.
- 55:05Sometimes they're fun, they're good thought experiments. I mean, I wasn't watching
- 55:08this I feel completely insulted. I kind of did. When I read afterwards
- 55:13that Coulsville isn't canon and is never referenced again, I thought, hang on,
- 55:17that's all you did with Jack fucking Black, one of the biggest like
- 55:21Jack Black, that fucking Jack Black. There. I feel like if you
- 55:24said to Jack Black, hey, do you want to be your recurring character
- 55:27as Milo, the Caulsville owner, it's a sure absolutely all right? Bothered
- 55:34what do we learn? But what do you learn from the episode? Is
- 55:37it? Davis? Do not get Alan Moore to sown your copy of Watchman
- 55:38Babies. No, do not do that. I learned that hot dog and
- 55:43a good hot dog until it's been plumped. Get that extra meat. It's
- 55:47time for some Guy Davis's new name Championship forward. Your names will be but
- 55:53before we do that need to be at the current leaderboard, which stands as
- 55:57this. In third position, Kyle Mole doing Clever Kyle five points, in
- 56:00second position, Jared Hornby on six points, and in first position is a
- 56:04tie Adam Woolhouse and Philip Jay Hawkins, both on seven points. Take it
- 56:08away this week the Jay is back. Okay, one point goes to any
- 56:12Time Fatness. Oh, that puts Adam Woolhouse in the lead on eight points
- 56:16as we currently stand, Holy Molly, Indeed, two points goes to Jim
- 56:22and comic Clever. Kyle is now on seven points, is now tied with
- 56:25Philip Jay Hawkins. Phil Hawkins now in second position. Phil Hawkins and Clever
- 56:30Cole now tied and second position on seven points. All right, and who
- 56:32gets the three? Let's see what happens when we give three points to Jim
- 56:36Honkys. Jim Honkys, Jared Hornby has gone all the way to the top
- 56:42of the lead of Ward now with his three points he's got so he was
- 56:44second on six, he's now got the three point He's now on nine.
- 56:45So now outright first position, Jared Hornby on nine points. In second position,
- 56:52we have Adam Wilhouse on eight points and a tie for third position.
- 56:55Now is Clever Kyle and Phil Hawkins on seven points. It's shaken up,
- 57:00shake it, shake it all right, guy Davis, New Dame Championship.
- 57:07Rember won't to be part of that. Guys, You've got to be a
- 57:08supporter of ours on Patreon. Enter the Patreon group. I'm gonna putting a
- 57:12leader bard. I got leaderboard in the Discord channel as well. I want
- 57:14to keep up to date of that. But yes, Jared Hornby is currently
- 57:15leading on nine points, still early in the season, so there's plenty of
- 57:19more points to be one indeed, indeed, But so I keep those new
- 57:22names again, Yes, all right. New next episode of Fourthing a discot
- 57:27for season nineteen. We shall be reviewing the episode Funeral for a Fiend.
- 57:30I'm pretty sure this is a sig Joe Bob One happy with that, and
- 57:32if I remember correctly, I think he has his family, and I think
- 57:37he does a face off kind of like parody here reso faces. I think
- 57:40it could be a spoiler or that I seem to remember watching this one on
- 57:44TV. I don't remember I remember this one being promoted. I don't.
- 57:47I'm talking about the webisode just reviewed so the Husbands and Knives. I remember
- 57:52the promotion for Coolsville being anything in Jack Black being in the Simpsons. I'd
- 57:54forgotten the fact that it wasn't canon anymore, so I can't remember my reaction
- 57:58to that. But I do remember side show Bob, because remember sideshow Bobs
- 58:01on the Simpson there's always a big deal. They mark direct the share of
- 58:04it, so I do remember this being a big deal. So funeral for
