- 1:15Speaker 3: I just don't know.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Offensive players like they don't want to play the formula.

- 1:49Speaker 1: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here
- 1:54Speaker 1: at Gillette Stadium, and it's Deuce, it's Evan, it's Paul,
- 1:56Speaker 1: it's Fred, it's Matt and the booth. We're continuing to
- 2:00Speaker 1: dissect and analyze what we've been witnessing and hoping, hoping
- 2:06Speaker 1: that we can start over and beat the Las Vegas
- 2:09Speaker 1: Raiders this Sunday. What do you think, guys?
- 2:13Speaker 3: I think it's been another tough game. I mean, they
- 2:16Speaker 3: got they got some good players. We know what happened
- 2:18Speaker 3: last year there hard to shake that memory. But you
- 2:22Speaker 3: know it's it's I think Evan later out, you say,
- 2:24Speaker 3: Max Crosby, that's that's the problem. I'm sure right now
- 2:27Speaker 3: they're watching Vedia and the problem, getting ready to line
- 2:30Speaker 3: him up over a Darion low plenty, and you know,
- 2:32Speaker 3: and then the talent on offense too. It's enough, it
- 2:34Speaker 3: hasn't really broken free yet, you know, the Patriots of
- 2:36Speaker 3: the offenses look kind of similar statistically, but you look
- 2:39Speaker 3: on paper and it seems like, all right, it's a
- 2:40Speaker 3: matter of time before the Raiders have, yeah, a little breakout.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Yeah. I was just gonna say, you know, this is
- 2:44Speaker 1: the turn to page game, and you know, we start
- 2:47Speaker 1: focusing on the opponent. They've got the pieces. They've got pieces,
- 2:50Speaker 1: and you can see, even though they're not scoring points,
- 2:54Speaker 1: they have you know, three four plays that they string
- 2:57Speaker 1: together that you know they could do something. Then they
- 2:59Speaker 1: make mistake, but they've got the makings of points, you know. Yeah,
- 3:05Speaker 1: so it's it's gonna be a tricky, tricky game.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm just dying over here. Still, it's a lot
- 3:11Speaker 4: like the Saints to me last week, where I think,
- 3:15Speaker 4: you know, DeVante Adams is probably better than Chris Olave,
- 3:17Speaker 4: but in general, they have pieces in New Orleans offensively
- 3:21Speaker 4: to be better than they were, and the Raiders are
- 3:24Speaker 4: in the same boat where you look at it and
- 3:26Speaker 4: you're like, all right, you got this offensive minded head coach,
- 3:29Speaker 4: you got weapons, what's the problem. I mean, I think
- 3:32Speaker 4: their offensive line has struggled, Like you can always go
- 3:35Speaker 4: there with most offenses that struggle, and I think Jimmy
- 3:39Speaker 4: Garoppolo for what he is, the winner that he is is.
- 3:42Speaker 4: Everybody likes to tell us he's a limited quarterback in
- 3:46Speaker 4: a lot of ways that your quarterback is limited it,
- 3:49Speaker 4: you know, it's not. He's one of the worst statistical
- 3:52Speaker 4: downfield throwers in the league. He's a bad deep ball thrower,
- 3:56Speaker 4: doesn't throw it aggressively, doesn't throw it accurately. Despite having
- 3:59Speaker 4: the Adams, he still can't hit a deep ball. And
- 4:02Speaker 4: he's really one of those guys that lives in like
- 4:05Speaker 4: the ten to fifteen yard range and on inbreaking routes, slands, digs,
- 4:10Speaker 4: crossers like things like that, and that that's a pretty
- 4:13Speaker 4: simple game plan for a defense. Take this away and
- 4:15Speaker 4: we have a chance.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I feel better if we had Gonzales and Jude on.
- 4:19Speaker 1: But you know, given what you just said, that's to me,
- 4:22Speaker 1: that's the key there is Garoppolo. Can we get to
- 4:25Speaker 1: him and just mess him up enough where you know,
- 4:29Speaker 1: we stall their offense? You know? Can we do that
- 4:31Speaker 1: with this defense?
- 4:32Speaker 3: I don't know. I mean, that's and I think that's
- 4:34Speaker 3: one of the headlines for me, is like new playmakers
- 4:36Speaker 3: have to step up. This team hasn't forced a turnover
- 4:38Speaker 3: and what three games, you know. I mean, it's just
- 4:40Speaker 3: at some point if they don't start making plays. It's like,
- 4:42Speaker 3: as much as the offense might make some strides, it's
- 4:45Speaker 3: not going to really matter if the defense doesn't, you know,
- 4:47Speaker 3: start to kind of make some plays and you know,
- 4:50Speaker 3: get you know, get off the field and big moments
- 4:52Speaker 3: or you know, force interceptions. I mean, you know, the
- 4:54Speaker 3: Raiders have had plenty of turnovers too, so maybe this
- 4:56Speaker 3: is the week that they're able to get their hands
- 4:58Speaker 3: on some balls. I mean jac Jackson, Nathan Jones, both
- 5:01Speaker 3: those guys haven't played a lot this year for you know,
- 5:03Speaker 3: obvious reasons, but they both have the ability to take
- 5:05Speaker 3: the ball away, you know, JC. So maybe one of
- 5:07Speaker 3: those guys can can get one. I think it's a
- 5:09Speaker 3: big key this week.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, this is a game where I'm predicting
- 5:13Speaker 1: right now, the Patriots will win the turnover battle. Believe
- 5:18Speaker 1: it or not.
- 5:18Speaker 4: Yeah, you're going to say, you're gonna say you're gonna win.
- 5:25Speaker 3: A different kind that comes tomorrow.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, they will win the turnover battle.
- 5:30Speaker 6: The Raiders have turned the ball over a lot and
- 5:33Speaker 6: seven picks for for Garoppolo when he missed a game. Now,
- 5:36Speaker 6: some of that is a little misleading, just like some
- 5:40Speaker 6: late late game heaves.
- 5:43Speaker 7: But yeah, that's all that.
- 5:44Speaker 6: They have turned the ball over a lot, and before
- 5:47Speaker 6: last week they hadn't been taking it away at all.
- 5:50Speaker 6: Now they came up with three picks of Jordan Love
- 5:52Speaker 6: Monday night.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Yeah, the linebacker, who's that guy with the splane Splaine?
- 5:57Speaker 3: Where'd he come from?
- 5:58Speaker 6: The play that the the game winning play was a
- 6:01Speaker 6: really nice play by that Robertson kid who looked like
- 6:05Speaker 6: he was kind of beat initially on the play.
- 6:06Speaker 3: It was the maccollins Marcus Jones play from last year.
- 6:10Speaker 3: That's what it seemed like to me. Where you know
- 6:11Speaker 3: at the end where they went to mac Collins, Mac
- 6:13Speaker 3: Collins went up in the back of the end zone.
- 6:14Speaker 3: It was just like Marcus Jones was there but just
- 6:16Speaker 3: didn't have the hype. But that Robertson guy had like
- 6:19Speaker 3: a thirty eight inch vertical like went up to be
- 6:21Speaker 3: able to get it.
- 6:22Speaker 4: I just reminded the receiver. But same point stands. I
- 6:26Speaker 4: think we're the Jaguars receiver that what's his name, yeah,
- 6:29Speaker 4: Keeling Cole.
- 6:30Speaker 6: And I think that was over Jonathan Jones, not Marcus Jones.
- 6:33Speaker 6: There's got to be one of Marcus Marcus Jones. There
- 6:35Speaker 6: was like three times in a row they went back.
- 6:37Speaker 6: I think they did on the last draw on that
- 6:39Speaker 6: maybe not the last time, should have been the last drive,
- 6:41Speaker 6: and we all know what happened at the last last drive.
- 6:43Speaker 7: But yeah, I don't.
- 6:45Speaker 3: I don't think that drive that tied the.
- 6:48Speaker 6: Game a different touchdown has gotten enough attention because of
- 6:52Speaker 6: the situation. They had a disastrous first half in that
- 6:55Speaker 6: game last year. They were down I want to say
- 6:57Speaker 6: seventeen to three, Yeah, something like that at the half,
- 7:00Speaker 6: and then Dougler makes the pick six. Familiar, right, Dougler
- 7:04Speaker 6: makes the pick six and gets you back in the game,
- 7:06Speaker 6: and then you kind of wrestled control over the next quarter,
- 7:11Speaker 6: quarter and a half or so, and you got yourself
- 7:13Speaker 6: in a situation where if you could get a stop,
- 7:15Speaker 6: you'd probably be in pretty good shape, and they couldn't
- 7:17Speaker 6: do it. Fourth and tens. I think that's where your
- 7:20Speaker 6: Mac Hollins stuff came in, Mike. Yeah, they started going
- 7:22Speaker 6: to Mac Collins on Marcus Jones a little bit. And
- 7:25Speaker 6: then the touchdown that was the disputed play in the
- 7:29Speaker 6: corner of the end zonehere it looked like he may
- 7:31Speaker 6: have been out ties the game, and you need a
- 7:36Speaker 6: little bit more defensively, I think in that spot.
- 7:39Speaker 4: I think in a way, because of all the issues
- 7:42Speaker 4: with the offense, we didn't talk as much about the
- 7:44Speaker 4: defense yesterday, and one of the most disturbing things from
- 7:48Speaker 4: this game against the Saints for me was the twenty
- 7:51Speaker 4: four percent pressure rate on Derek Carr. Besides, despite blitzing
- 7:55Speaker 4: almost fifty percent of the time, So they blitzed Derek
- 7:58Speaker 4: Carr a ton in that game, and they couldn't get
- 8:00Speaker 4: to them with.
- 8:01Speaker 1: That Judon effect.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Without Judon, it's it's a big concern of whether or
- 8:05Speaker 4: not they're going to be able to muster up really
- 8:07Speaker 4: any pass rush without Judon because they tried blitzing. They
- 8:11Speaker 4: tried you know, four man rushes, standard rushes, picks, you know,
- 8:15Speaker 4: you know, stunts, whatever you want to call them. Like,
- 8:17Speaker 4: they they tried pretty much everything to get after Theirs.
- 8:20Speaker 6: I would argue, even on one of the secks, they really.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Didn't have pressure Myles Bryan Sack. I mean that it
- 8:24Speaker 4: took like ten minutes, took forever, you.
- 8:26Speaker 7: Know, and he just decided I'll just take the sack.
- 8:28Speaker 7: And we'll kick the film.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it was twenty four percent. Pressure rate
- 8:33Speaker 4: is not good when you're blitzing forty eight percent of
- 8:36Speaker 4: the time.
- 8:38Speaker 1: On the offensive side of the ball. Do we think
- 8:41Speaker 1: that we're going to see Taekwon Thornton back up?
- 8:43Speaker 4: I hope so, yes, I do.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, I mean I think it's does that help
- 8:49Speaker 3: we'll find out? I definitive. I mean, I gotta say
- 8:52Speaker 3: I like that, you know, their hand is forced a
- 8:54Speaker 3: little bit. It's too bad that Pop is one of
- 8:55Speaker 3: the guys that's probably going to be out. I'm assuming
- 8:57Speaker 3: Juju and Pop will be out. So yeah, I mean
- 9:00Speaker 3: I think it's Juju, but maybe, you know, maybe Keishon
- 9:03Speaker 3: Buoti gets back in there, you know. I mean, I'd
- 9:06Speaker 3: love to see somebody. I mean, it seems like somebody's
- 9:08Speaker 3: got to get some extra snaps. So if it's not
- 9:10Speaker 3: maybe Reager, you know, maybe they're starting to sniff around
- 9:14Speaker 3: some some different pieces there, try to get some speed
- 9:17Speaker 3: or you know something. But I just, uh, I mean,
- 9:20Speaker 3: we'd all love to see Taekwon Thornton get out there
- 9:22Speaker 3: and make a couple of plays. Look fast, look like
- 9:24Speaker 3: he's going to change the offense a little bit. I'm
- 9:26Speaker 3: just you know, I'm not optimistic. I haven't seen that
- 9:28Speaker 3: happen yet with him on the field.
- 9:29Speaker 1: One of the things, going back to the Dallas game,
- 9:31Speaker 1: one of the things that they were doing really early
- 9:34Speaker 1: that I kind of like the Patriots offense. There was
- 9:36Speaker 1: a lot of motion, a lot of getting guys in motion,
- 9:39Speaker 1: and I think doing that with Thornton will help, you know,
- 9:43Speaker 1: maybe get him a head start, you know, so we
- 9:47Speaker 1: people don't get a clean shot at him at the
- 9:49Speaker 1: line of scrimmage. I would like to see that if
- 9:52Speaker 1: they're gonna use him.
- 9:53Speaker 4: I'm actually maybe a little bit more positive on Taekwon
- 9:56Speaker 4: Thornton than most people. Maybe I'm taking the cheese and
- 9:59Speaker 4: that's my fault and I'll be wrong again about this player,
- 10:02Speaker 4: but in the spring, as limited as he was at
- 10:05Speaker 4: times in the spring and in camp, it felt like
- 10:07Speaker 4: Bill O'Brien had a plan of how are we going
- 10:10Speaker 4: to get this guy off the line of scrimmage to
- 10:12Speaker 4: your point right, motion, stack alignments, playing him out of
- 10:15Speaker 4: the slot, like different things that you can do to
- 10:17Speaker 4: get him away from press coverage. I think last year
- 10:20Speaker 4: a lot of the time they just played him at
- 10:22Speaker 4: the X and he saw a lot of press coverage
- 10:24Speaker 4: and he's just too small to get off the line
- 10:26Speaker 4: of scrimmage against good corners and physical corners. If they
- 10:29Speaker 4: can find a way, just like Miami does with their
- 10:32Speaker 4: speed guys and other teams do with their speed guys,
- 10:35Speaker 4: to just get him into foot races out on the
- 10:37Speaker 4: football field and basically create games of tag all over
- 10:42Speaker 4: the place where it's not a physical battle, then I
- 10:45Speaker 4: think that he can help this team. They don't have
- 10:46Speaker 4: a lot of guys on this team that can run
- 10:49Speaker 4: by somebody with speed.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Such an opportunity for him to just like where the
- 10:53Speaker 3: team is at, where he's coming into a spot where
- 10:55Speaker 3: they probably gonna be down two receivers anyway, So it's
- 10:58Speaker 3: kind of a spot waiting for him to step in
- 11:00Speaker 3: and have a role in this offense. So it's it's
- 11:03Speaker 3: a huge opportunity for a second round pick in a
- 11:05Speaker 3: second year, and it's I don't wanna say it's now
- 11:06Speaker 3: or never, but yeah.
- 11:09Speaker 7: And they did.
- 11:10Speaker 6: And you guys, I think, Kevin, you said when you
- 11:12Speaker 6: got back from practice that that starts the clock, and
- 11:15Speaker 6: it indeed, did you know when we found out at
- 11:18Speaker 6: four o'clock on the wire that So to your point, Mike,
- 11:22Speaker 6: there's three weeks, so it is now we're never like
- 11:26Speaker 6: it's it's time for him and they need it with
- 11:28Speaker 6: those two guys out, opportunity there for him absolutely.
- 11:32Speaker 1: You know. And in terms of the atmosphere, I think
- 11:34Speaker 1: this is going to be a welcome relief for the team,
- 11:36Speaker 1: particularly Matt Jones. I think, you know, it's probably gonna
- 11:39Speaker 1: be fifty percent Patriots fans, and they're probably not the
- 11:42Speaker 1: type of fans that are going to be booming. You know,
- 11:44Speaker 1: they're there that have a good time, and they're not,
- 11:48Speaker 1: you know, i'd say, as impatient as the home fans.
- 11:53Speaker 1: So I think that's gonna be good for Mac. Yeah.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Agree.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Obviously, weather it's not going to be a factor because
- 11:58Speaker 1: we're indoors.
- 12:00Speaker 6: So we said that in Dallas, Yeah, I know, I know,
- 12:03Speaker 6: or in the most gorgeous day I've ever seen a
- 12:05Speaker 6: football game played at that stadium.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Nice, but the atmosphere was tough. It was brutal.
- 12:10Speaker 3: I mean, I could hear the Packer fans the other night,
- 12:13Speaker 3: like I mean, it's you know, the away team.
- 12:17Speaker 1: In the NFL. I've noticed more and more that these
- 12:20Speaker 1: these games are less hardcore home field advantage games like
- 12:25Speaker 1: I think maybe because the price of the tickets or whatever.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Vegas specifically anyway, I don't agree.
- 12:30Speaker 1: The secondary markets are such that it's so easy to
- 12:33Speaker 1: buy these tickets now and make money if you're a
- 12:35Speaker 1: season ticket holder. That they're doing it, and they're getting
- 12:39Speaker 1: by people who want to travel. There's more and more
- 12:42Speaker 1: road fans at these games now, I think than ever.
- 12:45Speaker 6: I think there are some enormous home fields. I don't
- 12:49Speaker 6: think you'd see that happen in Kansas City.
- 12:51Speaker 3: I think Vegas is an outlier.
- 12:56Speaker 4: Well, I don't know. I mean, like in green Bay
- 12:57Speaker 4: a few weeks ago, there's a ton of Lions fans
- 13:00Speaker 4: there for that Dallas a ton.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Of Patriots fans. Yeah, I mean if the Patriots, I.
- 13:04Speaker 6: Didn't get any of them. I mean, I know everybody
- 13:06Speaker 6: says that. I know that green Bay game, the Monday
- 13:09Speaker 6: night game that was that sounded like a home but.
- 13:11Speaker 1: There was nothing to cheer about. But I'm telling you
- 13:13Speaker 1: there were. It was like thirty five forty Patriots fans
- 13:16Speaker 1: at Dallas.
- 13:17Speaker 6: No, I mean, it's not about about ninety eight percent
- 13:20Speaker 6: green Bay fans. The Packers statement something because it's Vegas.
- 13:24Speaker 4: The Packers released a statement saying that we know there
- 13:27Speaker 4: were a lot of Lions fans at Lambeau last night.
- 13:30Speaker 4: We're sorry, like you know, like please don't sell your
- 13:32Speaker 4: tickets too, But that's happen from Detroit.
- 13:35Speaker 1: That's happening though. They're putting them on the secondary market,
- 13:37Speaker 1: and there's.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Something to keep an eye. I can't control.
- 13:40Speaker 6: You certainly know a lot more about that stuff that
- 13:41Speaker 6: I'm telling I wouldn't.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Argue with you're there. But I think Vegas is unique.
- 13:44Speaker 3: And that's and I mean, I've read articles about Vegas.
- 13:47Speaker 3: It's it's a mish mod Vegas.
- 13:49Speaker 4: It's like the Chargers.
- 13:50Speaker 6: Yeah, because my initial reaction would be there's no way
- 13:52Speaker 6: there's going to be a ton of Patriots fans.
- 13:54Speaker 3: But I think Vegas is different.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Vegas is definitely different. There's always more la there's always
- 14:00Speaker 1: more because they're destinations. But I'm telling you, but it's not.
- 14:03Speaker 6: Going to be a ton of Patriots fans in the
- 14:04Speaker 6: Buffalo game when they play at.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Buffalo, places like Green Bay and like that that you know,
- 14:11Speaker 1: historically it would be all green in Gold You're seeing
- 14:15Speaker 1: more and more road fans going because it's just easier
- 14:19Speaker 1: to buy tickets yeah.
- 14:21Speaker 3: Well, I mean specifically to the Lions too. I feel
- 14:23Speaker 3: like when a new team is kind of on the
- 14:24Speaker 3: upswing and they've been looking up at the Packers for
- 14:26Speaker 3: a while, and it's like, hey, let's drive to Wisconsin
- 14:29Speaker 3: and get some cheese curds and watch the pad.
- 14:31Speaker 6: If Lambeau you finally have a good team, let's make
- 14:34Speaker 6: that a destination.
- 14:35Speaker 7: I think Vegas is a destination.
- 14:37Speaker 4: A lot of people, you know, speaking as one that
- 14:40Speaker 4: was a transplant out on the West coast at one
- 14:42Speaker 4: point in time. There's a really really big La Patriot contingent,
- 14:48Speaker 4: and Vegas is a three hour easy, you know, in
- 14:51Speaker 4: the desert type of drive.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Why not if you're going to pick a road game.
- 14:55Speaker 6: That's a destination game. Like you know, a few years
- 14:58Speaker 6: ago they played in Nashville. That was a big destination game.
- 15:01Speaker 6: I think Dallas was too. But I'd be surprised. I mean,
- 15:04Speaker 6: like I said, I trust Freddy because he knows more
- 15:07Speaker 6: about this stuff than I do. But I'd be surprised
- 15:09Speaker 6: if that's a thing that well.
- 15:11Speaker 3: You guys are in every week.
- 15:14Speaker 4: I mean, get I have to admit I pay zero
- 15:17Speaker 4: attention to tell you head down, if there.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Was something to cheer for. You would have heard the
- 15:21Speaker 1: Patriots fans. There were a lot of them. It's in
- 15:23Speaker 1: All twenty two. It's not on ALL sixty five.
- 15:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I could not care less, but not not like
- 15:29Speaker 4: to the fans, like just on a game day. That's
- 15:32Speaker 4: not really my.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Again in the crowd looking for hot chicks in the stands, I.
- 15:37Speaker 6: Like to tease everybody. I actually agree with him. I
- 15:39Speaker 6: don't really notice that. I mean, the other night it
- 15:42Speaker 6: was hard to miss it. To Freddy's point, and I
- 15:44Speaker 6: know that he's right about the green Bay Detroit game too.
- 15:47Speaker 7: There were a lot of Detroit people there.
- 15:49Speaker 6: But the other night it was like noticeable there was
- 15:52Speaker 6: good things happening for green Bay and you couldn't tell.
- 15:55Speaker 6: I mean when the when good things were happened both teams,
- 15:58Speaker 6: the Raiders, because the Raiders crowd is loud, so even
- 16:02Speaker 6: when they were scoring, there wasn't a roar. That wasn't
- 16:06Speaker 6: really all that different than when when green Bay was scoring.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Be interesting what it sounds like this weekend.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm telling you if it's if there's something to
- 16:14Speaker 1: cheer for, you're gonna hear it from obviously both sides. Yea,
- 16:19Speaker 1: But but I think I think game that's just one
- 16:22Speaker 1: of Yeah, I think you're right, that's just one of
- 16:24Speaker 1: the intangibles that you know, you talk about this game
- 16:27Speaker 1: that is going to be different from the last game
- 16:29Speaker 1: when they were home. It could be a more welcoming environment.
- 16:33Speaker 7: Believe it or not, I don't think it's gonna be.
- 16:35Speaker 3: I wonder what it's like for the hockey team there,
- 16:37Speaker 3: the gold Knights that just won the Stanley Cup. It's
- 16:40Speaker 3: that similar kind of.
- 16:41Speaker 4: So we went to our game last year before the
- 16:44Speaker 4: Patriots Raiders game last year when inside my old friend
- 16:48Speaker 4: Bruce and you know, I gave him a standing o
- 16:50Speaker 4: when they announced him on the bench. Yep, I was
- 16:53Speaker 4: very excited to see. But at the same time, you know,
- 16:57Speaker 4: it was like the people around us, it's bachelor parties.
- 17:00Speaker 4: It's like out of like people that are there for
- 17:03Speaker 4: like there's no Golden.
- 17:04Speaker 3: Knights fans like people.
- 17:07Speaker 4: No, it's not like it was like you know in
- 17:09Speaker 4: the you know, we went to a preseason game like
- 17:11Speaker 4: a couple of weeks ago. You would have thought that
- 17:13Speaker 4: was a regular season game. I mean, you know the
- 17:15Speaker 4: place when the Bruins score pasta scored a couple of
- 17:17Speaker 4: times the place erupted, like you know, when you're in Vegas.
- 17:20Speaker 4: It was just kind of like guys are like talking
- 17:22Speaker 4: about other things at.
- 17:23Speaker 1: The weekend that there was that was Jerry the Jerry's
- 17:26Speaker 1: incident at the Raiders game.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Yeah, it was a big fight at the game you
- 17:31Speaker 1: were at was there?
- 17:32Speaker 4: I mean, I wasn't a part of that, but you know,
- 17:35Speaker 4: it was It was interesting to see the you know,
- 17:38Speaker 4: I got a ton of Bruins games and it's interesting
- 17:40Speaker 4: to see the difference between like a Bruins crowd and
- 17:43Speaker 4: a Vegas Golden Knights crowd.
- 17:44Speaker 3: It was like, guys, it's like guys in the crowd
- 17:46Speaker 3: last night, like I don't know, I got tickets. I
- 17:47Speaker 3: guess they're raising a banner or something. Yeah, you want
- 17:49Speaker 3: to go out of you got nothing else to do?
- 17:51Speaker 4: Fred talking about we're gonna do after the game, like
- 17:54Speaker 4: things like that.
- 17:55Speaker 6: Do you think because obviously that is a huge element
- 17:57Speaker 6: of the Vegas teams, you know, it's that kind of
- 18:00Speaker 6: novelty thing. Do you think that's sustainable that you get
- 18:04Speaker 6: a lot of because they don't care right now because
- 18:06Speaker 6: the buildings are full. Yeah, but like how many years
- 18:11Speaker 6: in a row are you making the trip to Vegas
- 18:13Speaker 6: to see your team, right.
- 18:14Speaker 3: Like right now, that's pretty cool.
- 18:15Speaker 6: You know, go to Vegas, catch a Bruins game, go
- 18:18Speaker 6: to Vegas, you know, catch a Patriots game.
- 18:21Speaker 3: It was funny. Are you gonna do that like every year? Yeah?
- 18:23Speaker 4: I know.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Well it's like fifteen people like fifteen years sustainable.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Well, essentially their team has to do get its own follow.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Up, That's what I'm saying. Yeah, do you think that
- 18:33Speaker 3: will happen?
- 18:34Speaker 1: I think for the Raiders it will. I don't know,
- 18:36Speaker 1: you know, hockey in the desert.
- 18:38Speaker 3: I mean, they want a Stanley Cup, like if you
- 18:39Speaker 3: don't get a little bit of a wagon.
- 18:42Speaker 4: And Bruce brought the cup here to celebrate here because
- 18:46Speaker 4: nobody in Vegas wanted to celebrate it with them, Is
- 18:49Speaker 4: that right? Yeah, he brought the cup back here and
- 18:52Speaker 4: about it. Everybody's probably like, like the Patriots are one
- 18:54Speaker 4: and four and they're talking about fan bases in Las Vegas.
- 18:57Speaker 7: But yeah, that's true.
- 18:58Speaker 3: Hey, we're playing Vegas this week.
- 18:59Speaker 1: This is what we do.
- 19:00Speaker 7: Sunshine back.
- 19:01Speaker 1: No, but I think you know, like tune in at four,
- 19:03Speaker 1: what's what it's going to be like during the game.
- 19:05Speaker 1: I think it's a factor but you know it, it
- 19:09Speaker 1: will come down, as we know, to just you know,
- 19:13Speaker 1: playing smart football, not turning it over. But I think
- 19:18Speaker 1: I give the Raiders the edge. You have to give
- 19:20Speaker 1: them the edge right now, you know.
- 19:22Speaker 4: I think they're cursed in that building until further notice.
- 19:26Speaker 4: And I'm just not going to pick the Patriots in
- 19:28Speaker 4: that stadium.
- 19:29Speaker 3: I didn't really want to go dig in that preseason game.
- 19:31Speaker 3: But what was like, it was just terrible offense, right Like,
- 19:34Speaker 3: I don't really remember the details of it, but I
- 19:36Speaker 3: remember last year's they just wanted to go home preseason
- 19:41Speaker 3: they got thoroughly dominant.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Yeah, they didn't even want to be there. I mean
- 19:45Speaker 1: literally they wanted out.
- 19:46Speaker 3: I just didn't. I didn't really want to bring it
- 19:47Speaker 3: up or relive it, but I remember it not being good.
- 19:49Speaker 4: We talked to the quarterback this morning.
- 19:52Speaker 3: It seemed cheaper.
- 19:53Speaker 4: It was an interesting conversation. I thought. One of the
- 19:56Speaker 4: awkward laugh the biggest takeaway. Yeah, the laugh was a
- 19:58Speaker 4: little awkward. The big takeaway that I that I had
- 20:01Speaker 4: from it, though, is him talking about how he hasn't
- 20:04Speaker 4: been communicating very well with his receivers the last he
- 20:08Speaker 4: said years, like a couple of years and you know
- 20:12Speaker 4: on film, I think that that you can see it,
- 20:15Speaker 4: you know, especially with Juju, but I think in general,
- 20:18Speaker 4: you're writing down and kind of making mental notes of like,
- 20:22Speaker 4: I'm not really sure if that route was exactly ran
- 20:26Speaker 4: the way that the quarterback is expecting him to run it.
- 20:29Speaker 4: And he he was talking about Dike having those types
- 20:32Speaker 4: of conversations with his receivers of like, hey, you know,
- 20:35Speaker 4: on this route, I really want you to, like, you know,
- 20:37Speaker 4: break it off like this, or you know, you broke
- 20:39Speaker 4: it off at six yards instead of at eight and
- 20:42Speaker 4: that threw me off, or like those types of things.
- 20:45Speaker 4: And I think that that's all over this film is
- 20:47Speaker 4: just a lack of overall trust in what they're doing,
- 20:51Speaker 4: Like you're going to be in the spot, and the
- 20:53Speaker 4: ball is going to be there when it's supposed to be,
- 20:55Speaker 4: and the protection's going to hold up when it's supposed
- 20:57Speaker 4: to and and I think that that's sort of the
- 20:59Speaker 4: conversations that are going on behind the walls.
- 21:01Speaker 3: It's it's weird to hear because I've always really thought
- 21:03Speaker 3: of Mac is like a pre snap field general, and
- 21:05Speaker 3: that's not something that.
- 21:06Speaker 4: Would well, I think he's like sort of talking. I
- 21:11Speaker 4: just Sorry, Taylor, I did think he was more talking
- 21:15Speaker 4: I know you're joking, but just to clarify, he's more
- 21:19Speaker 4: talking about like coming to the sideline after you know,
- 21:22Speaker 4: coming off the field and going up to a Pop
- 21:25Speaker 4: Douglas a Juju Smith, Schuster, Mike is SICKI and saying, hey,
- 21:29Speaker 4: you know on that route. I was really kind of
- 21:31Speaker 4: expecting you to be here and you were just like there,
- 21:35Speaker 4: And that's.
- 21:35Speaker 3: The brain to the Brady thing was like you were
- 21:37Speaker 3: on this blade of grass. I need you on that
- 21:40Speaker 3: blade of grass?
- 21:40Speaker 4: Correct?
- 21:41Speaker 3: Correct, Like that's how quickly?
- 21:43Speaker 4: And I think that that's that's all over the place
- 21:46Speaker 4: with this offense right now is just an overall lack
- 21:48Speaker 4: of It's not synced up right. And I'm not talking
- 21:52Speaker 4: about last year where like the drops were and SYNCD
- 21:54Speaker 4: up to the routes and like the spacing was a
- 21:56Speaker 4: massive more just talking about like the chemistry of the
- 21:58Speaker 4: players themselves.
- 22:00Speaker 6: So I also thought it was interesting again, and this
- 22:02Speaker 6: is the second week in a row. The question was
- 22:06Speaker 6: posted on to this was kind of about starting over,
- 22:08Speaker 6: you know, that was the theme post game and in
- 22:11Speaker 6: to Monday when they changed the schedule and we thought
- 22:13Speaker 6: maybe there would be changes. But he mac was asked
- 22:17Speaker 6: what starting over entails, and he talked a lot about
- 22:20Speaker 6: his footwork. He focused on his footwork, but his eyes.
- 22:23Speaker 6: And I keep talking about his eyes because that's what
- 22:26Speaker 6: looks to me like the problem is is that he
- 22:30Speaker 6: is too quickly looking at the pass rush and being
- 22:33Speaker 6: affected by the pass rush as opposed to keeping his
- 22:36Speaker 6: eyes downfield. Marry that with something Bill said this morning
- 22:41Speaker 6: about the pressure stats. Yeah, which you know, Bill's a
- 22:44Speaker 6: little like Paul.
- 22:45Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm not.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Buying the stats. That's a by way out of that question. Huh, Yeah,
- 22:50Speaker 3: I don't, don't.
- 22:50Speaker 4: We just watched the games then, Bill, So you know,
- 22:53Speaker 4: and this is.
- 22:54Speaker 6: Why I think that maybe, you know, the problems that
- 22:58Speaker 6: we're seeing are not just going to go away. I
- 23:00Speaker 6: think there's some there's some internal stuff going on. And
- 23:04Speaker 6: Bill said, yeah, I'm not really sure about those pressure stats.
- 23:07Speaker 6: There are plays that he's pressured, there's plays that he's
- 23:09Speaker 6: not pressured. In other words, it's not all about the
- 23:11Speaker 6: pressure guys. So the quarterback's got to play better too. Yeah, yeah,
- 23:14Speaker 6: you know, And and I just think that that's what
- 23:16Speaker 6: they're trying to hammer to him, is like you have
- 23:19Speaker 6: to trust what you're seeing and just run the place,
- 23:22Speaker 6: keep your foot where your footwork has been a mess.
- 23:24Speaker 6: We've talked about that, Evan talked about that. To Evan's credit,
- 23:28Speaker 6: when he was playing reasonably well, he was talking about
- 23:31Speaker 6: some of the throws he was making with with kind
- 23:33Speaker 6: of bad footwork and mechanics. So there's a lot of
- 23:37Speaker 6: stuff to fix.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Does he have the yips?
- 23:41Speaker 4: Yeah, is what I think. Like, I think that even
- 23:44Speaker 4: in the clean pockets, you look at an anti quarterback
- 23:47Speaker 4: like it's just an unsettled anti quarterback. And if I
- 23:50Speaker 4: see him throw with his feet parallel to the line
- 23:52Speaker 4: of scrimmage, again, I'm gonna like, you know, like you
- 23:55Speaker 4: gotta cut that stuff out right, Like you got to
- 23:57Speaker 4: cut out the fadeaways, the back foot Mac, the parallel
- 24:01Speaker 4: feet to the line of scrimmage, because you're just bracing,
- 24:04Speaker 4: you know, for contact. And I think in a lot
- 24:06Speaker 4: of ways that's playing quarterback. You got to step into
- 24:08Speaker 4: the throw and if you get hit, you get hit.
- 24:10Speaker 4: That's the position.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Well, both bills were asked, you know it was Mac
- 24:13Speaker 1: going to start this week, and both said yes, but
- 24:16Speaker 1: what happens if Mac has a bad practice?
- 24:19Speaker 3: You know, I mean and that's I mean, I think
- 24:21Speaker 3: it goes to the point Bill O'Brien said where it was. Look,
- 24:23Speaker 3: we're just we want to have a good fundamental day
- 24:26Speaker 3: today and we'll see where that gets us and tomorrow.
- 24:28Speaker 1: You know.
- 24:29Speaker 3: So I think even they are are pulling back on
- 24:31Speaker 3: you know, when they ask Bill O'Brien, he's like.
- 24:32Speaker 6: I think so, I think so, you know, like it
- 24:34Speaker 6: wasn't like, of course, not making any we're not making
- 24:38Speaker 6: any changes, right.
- 24:39Speaker 4: I wonder if that is everything or just quarterback. I
- 24:43Speaker 4: think he's as specifically just about quarterbacks. I assume it
- 24:46Speaker 4: was just quarterback. But if they don't make some changes
- 24:49Speaker 4: on the offensive line, then I don't really know what
- 24:51Speaker 4: they're doing. Like if they roll and you know, in
- 24:55Speaker 4: health permitted, right, like if Mike on WNU and Cole
- 24:57Speaker 4: Strange aren't available, then they can't play those guys. But
- 25:01Speaker 4: they have to find something better than Viderian Low. They
- 25:04Speaker 4: they have to find something better, Like I don't whether
- 25:08Speaker 4: it's Riley Reef out there on Wenny out there for
- 25:11Speaker 4: the love of God calling Layout Collins and offering him
- 25:14Speaker 4: a contract, Like they they have to find somebody better
- 25:17Speaker 4: at right tackle than Vederian Low. And I hope that
- 25:21Speaker 4: the guards get healthy and they get and you talk
- 25:23Speaker 4: about like starting over, like that's the whole mantra here
- 25:26Speaker 4: this week, Like why don't you just go back to
- 25:28Speaker 4: the line that you thought you were going to have,
- 25:31Speaker 4: Like what's wrong with that? Because this is clearly not working.
- 25:34Speaker 4: So even if Riley Reef looked rough at tackle and
- 25:37Speaker 4: training camp, it can't be much worse than this. So
- 25:39Speaker 4: let's just go back to in March when you sign
- 25:42Speaker 4: the tackles you said it was gonna be Brown Strange
- 25:45Speaker 4: Andrews on Wenny Reef, Like just just play that on
- 25:48Speaker 4: Sunday and see.
- 25:48Speaker 3: What happened though you just don't know though with him
- 25:50Speaker 3: when you and and Cole Strange still hurt, like you
- 25:52Speaker 3: know what I mean, those are that's the complication of
- 25:54Speaker 3: it all. And I mean, I I see what you're saying.
- 25:57Speaker 3: We saw them when you walked through the locker room
- 25:59Speaker 3: yesterday and you know it wasn't dumping or anything. Looked okay.
- 26:02Speaker 1: But yeah, speaking of injuries, Judan's still not on ir Yeah,
- 26:07Speaker 1: so they they do think that he has a shot.
- 26:10Speaker 3: I mean, even if they thought he had a shot,
- 26:11Speaker 3: like they mean, they could put him out right.
- 26:14Speaker 6: Back in three weeks playing the next three games, right,
- 26:17Speaker 6: That's what I don't really understand it.
- 26:20Speaker 7: I don't understand it.
- 26:21Speaker 4: I think it's financial, Okay, is the money thing to it.
- 26:27Speaker 4: I think that there's nobody that they deem worthy of
- 26:31Speaker 4: the roster spot, so there's no reason to give a
- 26:35Speaker 4: raise to a practice squad player by signing him to
- 26:38Speaker 4: the fifty three man roster.
- 26:39Speaker 1: That seems weird. I mean mean we're talking about pennies.
- 26:42Speaker 4: But no, I mean yeah, but like, who who were
- 26:45Speaker 4: who on the practice squad is going to get again
- 26:48Speaker 4: his spot?
- 26:48Speaker 8: Right?
- 26:48Speaker 3: Farms and Munson are the ones that have already been
- 26:50Speaker 3: promoted twice, so those would probably be I mean, Farms
- 26:53Speaker 3: would probably be the top candidate, or maybe Rigger if
- 26:56Speaker 3: they like him. I don't know, I mean I'm not really.
- 26:59Speaker 4: Pretty good twice just want Yeah, I mean, they put
- 27:02Speaker 4: Christian Gonzales on IR knowing that his season was over,
- 27:06Speaker 4: but also because they wanted to make a roster spot
- 27:09Speaker 4: for Riley Reef, so they put you know, that was
- 27:11Speaker 4: the that was the transaction.
- 27:13Speaker 3: I mean, you could see, wait and see with Thornton
- 27:14Speaker 3: if they have to, you know, if they're gonna activate
- 27:16Speaker 3: Thornton or Cody Davis or Trey Flowers.
- 27:18Speaker 6: Then this might be a bad assumption, but I would
- 27:21Speaker 6: assume that that Thornton is activated this week. So someone's
- 27:24Speaker 6: gonna have to go yep, right, and.
- 27:27Speaker 4: Then you'll see the move because there's somebody worth taking
- 27:29Speaker 4: the spot.
- 27:29Speaker 6: But will it be him or will it be you know,
- 27:32Speaker 6: one of the receivers that's dealing with a concussion maybe
- 27:36Speaker 6: you know who knows?
- 27:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I look, I I hope that Juju
- 27:40Speaker 4: is is on a personal level, I hope he's physically okay.
- 27:43Speaker 3: Obviously, but frets that roots form injuries and not from Patrigan.
- 27:47Speaker 4: Placing him on on injured reserve. And you know, we
- 27:50Speaker 4: talk about like with Mac, you know, both Bills were
- 27:53Speaker 4: asked about mental breaks for that guy might just need
- 27:56Speaker 4: a mental break and a physical break and just a
- 27:58Speaker 4: break generally just in general, Like it hasn't workedreak to
- 28:02Speaker 4: break out and it hasn't worked out, and it's it's
- 28:05Speaker 4: almost kind of convenient. I hate to say it that way,
- 28:08Speaker 4: but like now you have a reason to not play
- 28:11Speaker 4: him right, And it's not like we're all going to
- 28:13Speaker 4: sit here and be like you have this sixteen million
- 28:15Speaker 4: dollar receiver.
- 28:16Speaker 3: On the safe face, we're sniffing around the same thing, Evan,
- 28:19Speaker 3: right now, yeah, yeah.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Yeah, all right. Eight five five past five hundred is
- 28:24Speaker 1: the A Sticket hotline web radio at patries dot com
- 28:27Speaker 1: is the email address. Let's get to the phones. Patty's
- 28:30Speaker 1: an agawam. What's up, Patty?
- 28:33Speaker 9: What's up?
- 28:33Speaker 1: John?
- 28:34Speaker 4: Hey, Patty.
- 28:36Speaker 10: I just wanted to go over a couple of things,
- 28:37Speaker 10: a couple of positives, and then I want to address
- 28:40Speaker 10: what one of the things you guys said yesterday, Polly.
- 28:46Speaker 10: The interview with you and Rodney Harrison and Matt Smith
- 28:49Speaker 10: was absolutely freaking awesome. I just I forgot to call
- 28:51Speaker 10: in last week and play you that.
- 28:53Speaker 3: But thank you.
- 28:54Speaker 10: My only complaint that it was too short.
- 28:56Speaker 7: Yeah, he was. He was a little busy that night.
- 28:58Speaker 3: He was.
- 28:59Speaker 7: He squeaks in, so we we took what we could get.
- 29:03Speaker 10: Yeah, I understand. He's my out of all my you know,
- 29:07Speaker 10: thirty plus years of the NFN. He's my second favorite
- 29:09Speaker 10: Patriot of all time, behind Brady, even though.
- 29:12Speaker 3: Brady, Yeah, Drew's up there too, but he was.
- 29:15Speaker 6: Just great Harrison. Fred will tell you Harrison supplanted Drew
- 29:19Speaker 6: in my rankings. Yeah, that's how much I like Rodney too.
- 29:24Speaker 10: Yeah, I'm I'm very excited to see what Taekwon can
- 29:27Speaker 10: possibly bring to this to this offense this week if
- 29:30Speaker 10: he's activated. That's the one positive I had. And when
- 29:34Speaker 10: you guys were saying yesterday, you know, well fans after
- 29:37Speaker 10: Bill retires, you know, will they come back and and
- 29:40Speaker 10: cheer them?
- 29:41Speaker 8: Of course?
- 29:42Speaker 10: You know, it's you know, it's preposterous to think that
- 29:46Speaker 10: everything that he did for this franchise. I mean you
- 29:49Speaker 10: look at the mess that he inherited in two thousands
- 29:52Speaker 10: and the next year they win the freaking Super Bowl
- 29:55Speaker 10: and Brady wasn't Brady. Then you know, say what you
- 29:58Speaker 10: want that was. That was mostly you know, a full compliment,
- 30:02Speaker 10: complimentary team win throughout those playoffs, and I would I
- 30:07Speaker 10: would say to three and o four you could you
- 30:09Speaker 10: can make the arguments for that too, but just you
- 30:12Speaker 10: know the mess. I said this after the Dallas game,
- 30:15Speaker 10: I mean, this offense that it's not gonna unless you know,
- 30:19Speaker 10: Taekwon Thorpe has the savior, it's probably not going to
- 30:22Speaker 10: get any better this year. You know, I hope I
- 30:25Speaker 10: have my fingers crossed, Freddy, but you know, I think
- 30:29Speaker 10: I think it kind of is what it is, and
- 30:30Speaker 10: that's all I got.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Thanks, Patty. Uh, let's go to Eddie in l A.
- 30:34Speaker 1: What's up Eddie, Eddie, Eddie, Eddie? All right, Freddy call
- 30:43Speaker 1: back Michael's in Miami. What's up Michael on line three? Yeah?
- 30:49Speaker 3: Yeah, more perfect.
- 30:54Speaker 11: So just you know, it's just been so much negativity
- 30:57Speaker 11: from the team late at least, so I thought maybe
- 30:58Speaker 11: we'd take it into a positive approach. And I'm only
- 31:02Speaker 11: twenty seven years old, so obviously I've been so spoiled now.
- 31:05Speaker 1: For so long.
- 31:06Speaker 11: And I remember my first game in sixth grade, staying
- 31:08Speaker 11: up late to make sure I got to watch that
- 31:11Speaker 11: Monday night football with the Bills and pass and you know,
- 31:13Speaker 11: watch Bratty have that four minute comeback in the game,
- 31:16Speaker 11: and it's just such a great memory of mine. And
- 31:19Speaker 11: I'd love to hear some of y'all's favorite memories and
- 31:22Speaker 11: games over that, you know, Dynasty run that really take
- 31:24Speaker 11: you back to the good old days, and just to
- 31:26Speaker 11: appreciate what Bill and Brady have done for the franchise.
- 31:29Speaker 4: Oh, thank you.
- 31:30Speaker 1: It'll be time for that right now.
- 31:33Speaker 7: We'll do a little that in the off seas.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Just we're just worried about.
- 31:35Speaker 3: That was a good game. I was at that game.
- 31:36Speaker 3: That was a fun game. Oh yeah, well people were leaving.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Those are off season shows, you know, reminiscing.
- 31:41Speaker 6: About trivia, right trivia? You recall Brady threw two touchdown
- 31:46Speaker 6: passes to Benjamin Watson.
- 31:47Speaker 3: In the last like four minutes. Yeah, how how who
- 31:51Speaker 3: fumbled for the Bills to give the Patriots le Otis McKelvin,
- 31:55Speaker 3: excellent job, job, well done, Brandon Merriweather Big What was
- 32:02Speaker 3: he doing bringing it out?
- 32:03Speaker 1: I mean.
- 32:05Speaker 3: You talk about like dumb decisions that helped, like ow
- 32:08Speaker 3: the door.
- 32:08Speaker 6: So I actually think it was the right decision to
- 32:10Speaker 6: bring the ball out because he wanted the clock to
- 32:13Speaker 6: run down of the two minute warning, which is something
- 32:16Speaker 6: that if a Patriot had done during that time, we
- 32:18Speaker 6: would have written books about. The only difference is the
- 32:22Speaker 6: Patriots returner wouldn't have fumbled the ball.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Ron and Conway, New Hampshire. I only have a couple
- 32:28Speaker 1: thoughts considering that our season, in my opinion, is over,
- 32:32Speaker 1: so Thornton is supposedly off ir and Mac will start.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Our old line still sucks, and I feel like Mac
- 32:38Speaker 1: has lost the team and they don't trust him at all,
- 32:41Speaker 1: which is why there's constant mistakes. I'd love to blame
- 32:44Speaker 1: Mac one hundred, but I can't entirely. The most gray
- 32:47Speaker 1: area in the wide receiver room is Taekwon. I mean,
- 32:50Speaker 1: is he really gonna a play or start? And if
- 32:53Speaker 1: he does, will he actually make a difference in the
- 32:56Speaker 1: game before he gets hurt again? This team is in
- 32:58Speaker 1: disarray right now and has no focus. As far as
- 33:01Speaker 1: Bill saying they're starting over, what the hell does that
- 33:04Speaker 1: even mean? Anyway, just asking your opinion.
- 33:06Speaker 4: On things, it can't possibly be working.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Ed Thornton make a difference.
- 33:12Speaker 4: Nobody is making a difference at the moment, so like
- 33:15Speaker 4: might as well try. And I would say the same
- 33:17Speaker 4: thing about Kaishawan Boudi at this point. I'm not the
- 33:19Speaker 4: biggest fan of in general, but at this point, if
- 33:24Speaker 4: if he can catch one like he did in the
- 33:26Speaker 4: preseason and break a tackle and make a big play happen,
- 33:30Speaker 4: all for it a touchdown. Let the kids play, Let
- 33:34Speaker 4: you know, let some new guys get in there. It's
- 33:36Speaker 4: clearly not working with DeVante Parker and Juju and and
- 33:40Speaker 4: Kendrick Bourne, So why what's.
- 33:42Speaker 3: The harm I can't see Parker's snaps getting like limited
- 33:46Speaker 3: at all though, you know, like he like it feels
- 33:47Speaker 3: like no matter what, he is going to be out
- 33:49Speaker 3: there and Ma's gonna keep taking those shots to him.
- 33:52Speaker 4: Yeah, that's frustrating.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Let's go to Spi and Fresnough what's up Speed?
- 33:58Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 33:59Speaker 1: I love that.
- 34:00Speaker 12: Paul's line, why is Fred on birth control?
- 34:02Speaker 10: Yesterday? Hilarious?
- 34:06Speaker 12: It's like classic PFW where used tonak a good one
- 34:09Speaker 12: in there?
- 34:11Speaker 1: I miss that because you're always I'm always Mike, Mike.
- 34:17Speaker 12: Mike's good as those Fred is just more over the top,
- 34:20Speaker 12: just knock.
- 34:21Speaker 9: You over the head.
- 34:26Speaker 12: So like, uh, on all PFW shows, someone used to
- 34:29Speaker 12: say that it's like it's maybe a little dangerous to
- 34:31Speaker 12: trying to figure out what's going on in Bill's mind.
- 34:34Speaker 12: But I did have a question about that. Maybe you
- 34:37Speaker 12: guys could help me. I'm better to better understand it
- 34:40Speaker 12: because so he consistently, he consistently acts like he doesn't
- 34:44Speaker 12: maybe care what anyone else thinks, But that's got to
- 34:48Speaker 12: be a total front because he's obsessed with the history
- 34:50Speaker 12: of the game and he has to like care about
- 34:53Speaker 12: his legacy in it. So like unless he's gone mister
- 34:57Speaker 12: Magoo right now, and I don't think he's done that.
- 35:01Speaker 12: He must think that everything that's gone on post Brady
- 35:04Speaker 12: with his coaching and GMing, like somehow they're not damaging
- 35:07Speaker 12: his legacy. Like he must be thinking that either histories,
- 35:10Speaker 12: like the history is going to forget these three or
- 35:12Speaker 12: four years, or the good statement on everyone not named Bill.
- 35:16Speaker 12: I mean, that's got to be what's going on in
- 35:18Speaker 12: his head, right.
- 35:20Speaker 3: That's a tough place to get into. I mean, I
- 35:22Speaker 3: don't know. I part of me wonders if like he preaches,
- 35:25Speaker 3: and I like this about him as a coach, is
- 35:27Speaker 3: that he preaches, you know, focus on today, focus on
- 35:29Speaker 3: the moment, you know, and I just it's impossible, I'd
- 35:32Speaker 3: say for most people not to think about those things,
- 35:34Speaker 3: to think about the big picture, and oh my god,
- 35:35Speaker 3: like jeez, it's been a really rough run and everything
- 35:37Speaker 3: I've been doing is bad. But you know, part of
- 35:39Speaker 3: me wonders if he really really just kind of stays
- 35:42Speaker 3: focused on we lost last week. We got to know
- 35:45Speaker 3: play better this week, like you know what I mean,
- 35:46Speaker 3: if he really lives that. But I don't know how
- 35:48Speaker 3: he would do it. I mean I certainly know if
- 35:50Speaker 3: myself in that position, it would be snowballing for me
- 35:52Speaker 3: all the you know, the decisions that I made that
- 35:54Speaker 3: haven't worked, and you know, it feels like you're trying
- 35:57Speaker 3: to help the team, but in some ways you're hurting
- 35:58Speaker 3: the team. And I don't know. I mean, it's it's
- 36:01Speaker 3: it's a tough person to figure out.
- 36:03Speaker 6: When I say that, I don't think that Bill cares
- 36:05Speaker 6: about what people think. I'm talking about fans. I think
- 36:08Speaker 6: Bill very much cares about what peers in you know,
- 36:11Speaker 6: the history of the game thinks.
- 36:13Speaker 7: I think you don't.
- 36:14Speaker 6: You think Freddy, But he cares about his legacy and
- 36:17Speaker 6: how he's perceived.
- 36:18Speaker 4: But I bet are those people going to change? Like
- 36:20Speaker 4: I don't think that those people are going to change
- 36:22Speaker 4: their mind.
- 36:22Speaker 1: I don't.
- 36:23Speaker 7: I don't either.
- 36:23Speaker 6: But like us in in the in the fans, and
- 36:26Speaker 6: like when we're saying he needs to make a change
- 36:27Speaker 6: a quarterback, he doesn't really care what Paul thinks that
- 36:30Speaker 6: they need to do a quarterback.
- 36:31Speaker 1: I think he cares about making the right decision and winning.
- 36:34Speaker 1: But I don't think what other people think is going
- 36:38Speaker 1: to affect those decisions.
- 36:40Speaker 7: Right, That's what I guess that you said it better.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Than he believes in what he believes, you know, and
- 36:46Speaker 1: that's how he that dictates his decision making.
- 36:50Speaker 4: The question is, you know, is it antiquated?
- 36:54Speaker 1: Right? Yeah, that that's one of the questions.
- 36:58Speaker 12: My biggest point there before about kind of selectively maybe
- 37:01Speaker 12: forgetting and just putting on flinders and going onto the
- 37:03Speaker 12: next week. That there's an advantage to that, but there's
- 37:06Speaker 12: a disadvantage of that too, if you're not making your
- 37:10Speaker 12: picture adjustments in parallel with that.
- 37:12Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, kind of the macro view of it. I
- 37:15Speaker 3: don't know. I mean, it's you know, we got we
- 37:16Speaker 3: had them this morning at the press conference, and it's
- 37:19Speaker 3: the same old Bill, you know, like you would have
- 37:21Speaker 3: no idea. They're one and four and coming off with
- 37:23Speaker 3: two of the worst losses that he's ever coached the
- 37:25Speaker 3: team to.
- 37:26Speaker 1: Yep, we're all right, all right, thanks babe. I mean
- 37:31Speaker 1: the problem is he really can't say what he's thinking,
- 37:35Speaker 1: you know, because to his credit, he's not going to
- 37:37Speaker 1: throw people under the bus. You know. It's it's we're
- 37:41Speaker 1: all we all need to do better, we all need coaches, everybody.
- 37:44Speaker 1: That's that's what it is.
- 37:45Speaker 4: But it's but it's his fault, so like it in
- 37:48Speaker 4: order to throw people under the bus, you'd have to
- 37:50Speaker 4: throw himself under the bus first. Like they're in this
- 37:53Speaker 4: position because of him, so like to sit there and
- 37:56Speaker 4: like if I give him credit, I guess for not
- 37:58Speaker 4: putting fingers, but if he starts pointing at other people,
- 38:00Speaker 4: then like it's like, well wait a second. And I
- 38:03Speaker 4: think that's where you know, to a degree, I think
- 38:06Speaker 4: that's where Mac comes from with it is like everybody,
- 38:09Speaker 4: you're blaming me, Like you're telling me that, well, fifty
- 38:12Speaker 4: percent of the time, Mac, you're not under pressure, even
- 38:15Speaker 4: though fifty percent of the time I am. And like
- 38:17Speaker 4: then it, you know, affects the clean pocket, you know,
- 38:20Speaker 4: you know stuff as much as it does the other stuff.
- 38:22Speaker 4: And I have nobody to throw to.
- 38:24Speaker 3: But yeah, it's my fault.
- 38:25Speaker 1: You're talking about GM Bill, Yeah, for sure.
- 38:27Speaker 4: I mean he and Coach Bill. He built the coach Bill.
- 38:31Speaker 4: I think both Bills.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I still have faith in Coach Bill. You know,
- 38:36Speaker 1: I don't know, Maybe I'm just naive.
- 38:39Speaker 6: No, Well, first of all, anybody that has been watching
- 38:42Speaker 6: the Patriots for two decades that feels like Bill is
- 38:45Speaker 6: still good, Like why would that be wrong? Like this
- 38:48Speaker 6: guy has put together a program unlike any other. So
- 38:51Speaker 6: I don't think anybody that thinks that he can still
- 38:53Speaker 6: coach at a high level is wrong, Like you have
- 38:56Speaker 6: twenty years of evidence to prove you aside. I just
- 38:59Speaker 6: don't like some of the things I've seen coaching wise.
- 39:03Speaker 6: And my big thing is the thing I always talk about.
- 39:05Speaker 6: It's just his mentality of how you structure a team
- 39:09Speaker 6: now and I think the whole notion of the you know,
- 39:13Speaker 6: the big play receiver he does not agree with.
- 39:15Speaker 3: Yeah, but you know, it's interest in policy actually thinking
- 39:17Speaker 3: about this because we've we've talked about this a couple
- 39:19Speaker 3: of times. It's like, you know, I get that he
- 39:21Speaker 3: believes it, but there's a disconnect because he's got the
- 39:25Speaker 3: thirty second ranked special teams in the league for the
- 39:27Speaker 3: second year in a row. You know, like like things
- 39:29Speaker 3: are going wrong that even he subscribes to, Like you know,
- 39:32Speaker 3: if the Patriots still somehow are like the best special teams,
- 39:35Speaker 3: then you know they're one and four and you know,
- 39:37Speaker 3: but it's it's like, what's the disconnect for him? Like
- 39:39Speaker 3: he can't even execute what he believes now, you know.
- 39:42Speaker 6: And it's like, you know, so everybody points to Chad Rylands, right,
- 39:46Speaker 6: you know, and it's the field, So he's four for eight.
- 39:50Speaker 6: If Nick Folk was here, what would he be six
- 39:52Speaker 6: for eight? Probably six for seven because they probably wouldn't
- 39:56Speaker 6: have attempted the fifty seven yard yeah, right in the rain. Right,
- 40:01Speaker 6: he missed a forty eight yard field goal last week
- 40:03Speaker 6: in the game they lost thirty four to nothing, and
- 40:05Speaker 6: they missed a forty eight yard field goal the previous
- 40:07Speaker 6: week in the game they lost thirty eight to three.
- 40:09Speaker 1: In a dome, right right, they wouldn't make a difference.
- 40:12Speaker 6: So, in other words, if Nick Folk was here and
- 40:14Speaker 6: made all the kicks that Chad Ryland dismissed, you'd be
- 40:17Speaker 6: one and four, which is kind of my special team's
- 40:20Speaker 6: point in a nutshell, Yeah.
- 40:22Speaker 7: Like it doesn't.
- 40:22Speaker 6: I'm not excusing the fact that they haven't been good
- 40:25Speaker 6: on special teams because it's not just about field goal kicking.
- 40:28Speaker 6: They haven't been good on special teams on a consistent level.
- 40:31Speaker 6: Through the five games. They had plays here and there.
- 40:34Speaker 6: They had a good punt return. I think Marcus Jones
- 40:36Speaker 6: had a good punt return the first week, Ty Montgomery
- 40:39Speaker 6: had a good kick return the first week, and the
- 40:40Speaker 6: block field goal was outstanding. There's been a lot of
- 40:44Speaker 6: bad plays too, not just missed field goals. I think
- 40:47Speaker 6: everybody puts this Chad Ryland, she had nick Folk, why'd
- 40:50Speaker 6: you fix something that wasn't broken.
- 40:52Speaker 3: Yeah, but like and to your point too, like where's
- 40:55Speaker 3: Chris board Like? You know we were this is you know,
- 40:57Speaker 3: he trumpeted him last year when he came in with
- 40:59Speaker 3: the Lions and.
- 41:01Speaker 6: Well, but the point like he like, like Chris board
- 41:05Speaker 6: like lined up incorrectly on a kickoff that was one
- 41:08Speaker 6: of the penalties.
- 41:09Speaker 3: You know, lined up improperly.
- 41:11Speaker 6: This is the guy that you targeted as one of
- 41:13Speaker 6: the best special teams players in the league.
- 41:16Speaker 7: Matthew Slater has three penalties.
- 41:18Speaker 6: Now, one of them was garbage because it wasn't his
- 41:20Speaker 6: fault that he was out of bounds and happened to
- 41:23Speaker 6: go back in and the ball bounced into the back
- 41:25Speaker 6: of his leg and he was a call for illegal touching.
- 41:28Speaker 6: That's a little unfortunate, but it's just I think indicative
- 41:32Speaker 6: of I mean special teams.
- 41:35Speaker 1: When you're a competitive team, that could be the difference
- 41:37Speaker 1: between winning or losing a game. If when you're getting blown.
- 41:40Speaker 6: Out, yeah it doesn't matter, and I get it, Like
- 41:41Speaker 6: last year, you're giving up multiple kick returns for touchdowns,
- 41:44Speaker 6: you're getting punts blocked. You know that that a big
- 41:47Speaker 6: that's like disaster special teams that's costing you games. That
- 41:51Speaker 6: hasn't happened this year. Even though your special teams are struggling,
- 41:55Speaker 6: you're not giving up kick returns every game and getting
- 41:58Speaker 6: punts blocked every game.
- 42:00Speaker 4: Yeah, it just special teams thing, is what it is.
- 42:02Speaker 4: But like I just I don't know if he's particularly
- 42:05Speaker 4: like game planned all that well on defense. And that's
- 42:09Speaker 4: like supposed to be the one thing that we can
- 42:11Speaker 4: always like hang our hats on is that Bill will
- 42:13Speaker 4: have a plan defensively and they'll figure like in all
- 42:17Speaker 4: the games this year. Besides I guess the Eagles game.
- 42:19Speaker 4: I think they had a decent plan, but that was
- 42:21Speaker 4: also Week one and they had all off season to prepare,
- 42:23Speaker 4: and the Eagles were sloppy, and you know, Mike McDaniel
- 42:27Speaker 4: pants them again when they played the Dolphins the Cowboys
- 42:30Speaker 4: right down the field.
- 42:31Speaker 3: But I'll again go with your.
- 42:32Speaker 6: Point for the for the game plan first drive of
- 42:34Speaker 6: the season, the Eagles went right down the field, had goal.
- 42:37Speaker 4: To go, and you forced a field goal because he
- 42:39Speaker 4: tripped all over himself.
- 42:40Speaker 6: Okay, no, but he went, they went right down the
- 42:42Speaker 6: field and you ended up getting a stop. But my
- 42:45Speaker 6: point is the other team drove seventy yards, yeah, kicked
- 42:48Speaker 6: a field goal. The next week Miami drove seventy yards.
- 42:51Speaker 6: That was the game that to were tripped on third
- 42:53Speaker 6: down field goal. But where is the I'm playing now?
- 42:57Speaker 6: Against the Jets, it was a three and out because
- 42:59Speaker 6: that was the's you know. And then again first first
- 43:02Speaker 6: drive of the Dallas game, right down the field, field
- 43:05Speaker 6: goal and most of these were followed up with another
- 43:08Speaker 6: scoring drive. This, by the way, this conversation at the
- 43:12Speaker 6: beginning of the game, they're not ready to play defense either, yep.
- 43:17Speaker 3: And then this conversation is gonna happen next week with
- 43:18Speaker 3: the same thing with Josh Allen for all right, what
- 43:21Speaker 3: do you got this time?
- 43:22Speaker 4: How many years are you gonna go? Like basically, and
- 43:25Speaker 4: I this is one thing I I kind of agree
- 43:27Speaker 4: with Badard on they've sort of just given up trying
- 43:30Speaker 4: to defend the Bills and the Dolphins at this point,
- 43:32Speaker 4: like they're just they just go into these games and
- 43:34Speaker 4: they're like, just don't just don't hang forty on us, right,
- 43:38Speaker 4: Like we're gonna play three deep safeties or we're gonna play,
- 43:41Speaker 4: you know, against Josh Allen, We're gonna just play like
- 43:43Speaker 4: soft zone coverage and just keep the top on the
- 43:46Speaker 4: defense and just as long as you guys don't score
- 43:48Speaker 4: forty points, then we're gonna be fine like that.
- 43:50Speaker 2: You know that.
- 43:51Speaker 6: That's that's okay with us. Like it just they're being
- 43:54Speaker 6: outscored thirty six to six in the first quarter.
- 43:57Speaker 3: That's not all. Imagine the pick six And if you
- 44:00Speaker 3: imagine if you went back into last year with that too,
- 44:02Speaker 3: I mean it would be even out clearing.
- 44:04Speaker 7: Because that's been a problem.
- 44:05Speaker 3: Yeah, But with Josh Allen, I just I'd love to
- 44:08Speaker 3: ask him, like, do you change the plan? Like, you know,
- 44:11Speaker 3: have you evolved the plan? I mean, none of them
- 44:13Speaker 3: have worked, But each time you face them, do you
- 44:15Speaker 3: come up with something different to try to throw? It
- 44:17Speaker 3: just seems like we're gonna spend the dial and try
- 44:19Speaker 3: not to let him hit deep shots on us and
- 44:20Speaker 3: then hope that he's gonna throw us some interceptions and
- 44:22Speaker 3: if he doesn't, we're gonna lose. For what is at
- 44:24Speaker 3: seven eight? However many times they we'll.
- 44:27Speaker 4: Lose like thirty one to seventeen instead of forty five
- 44:30Speaker 4: to seventeen.

- 45:39Speaker 14: Francisco full House today. Oh yeah, let's get it, trist
- 45:42Speaker 14: some trivia first, don't answer it as always. Question and
- 45:46Speaker 14: this is to win a Patriots unfiltered T shirt, right, nice,
- 45:49Speaker 14: the official one with the sticker on it, right, Alex, Yeah, it'll.
- 45:52Speaker 3: Sign it for you.
- 45:53Speaker 15: Yeah, not the knockoff on Twitter?
- 45:55Speaker 1: Okay? Question one.
- 45:57Speaker 14: In December two thousand and five, in a game against
- 45:59Speaker 14: the Buccaneers, which offensive lineman caught his first NFL touchdown
- 46:03Speaker 14: pass after lining up as an eligible tight end?
- 46:07Speaker 3: All right, well I don't know that one, all right,
- 46:09Speaker 3: that's question one.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Question two.
- 46:11Speaker 14: The Patriots first playoff game in franchise history was in
- 46:14Speaker 14: the AFL in nineteen sixty three. They defeated the Buffalo
- 46:17Speaker 14: Bills in the AFL Divisional Playoff twenty six to eight. However,
- 46:22Speaker 14: they lost the AFL Championship game fifty one to ten
- 46:25Speaker 14: to which other AFL team?
- 46:26Speaker 4: Okay?
- 46:26Speaker 1: I know that one.
- 46:28Speaker 14: And question three this is going to segue very well
- 46:30Speaker 14: into our topic for the day. All right, what year
- 46:33Speaker 14: did you Lett Stadium? Switch to artificial turf. All right,
- 46:38Speaker 14: send your answers into web radio at Patriots dot com
- 46:41Speaker 14: and guys, that is the topic for the day. It's
- 46:44Speaker 14: a big hot topic in the league. Natural grass, hot
- 46:48Speaker 14: hot topic, natural grass verse, artificial turf. What should the
- 46:53Speaker 14: league go by?
- 46:54Speaker 11: What?
- 46:55Speaker 1: Like, we know what the players want.
- 46:56Speaker 3: What are your thoughts? Just like whatever makes the most money?
- 46:58Speaker 3: Like how can we make the most money. I don't
- 47:00Speaker 3: really care about health a cls like just money. We
- 47:04Speaker 3: need the concerts, we need high school football games. We
- 47:06Speaker 3: need to be able to do multiple note. I mean
- 47:08Speaker 3: that's probably what the NFL thinks. And that's like I
- 47:10Speaker 3: don't think there's really much chance of I mean, I
- 47:13Speaker 3: know the World Cup's coming, Patisse, and you're you're a
- 47:15Speaker 3: soccer guy, so I know that there's like FIFA, don't.
- 47:18Speaker 14: They have to have require that all all stadiums must
- 47:22Speaker 14: be grass like to certain specifications. When players such as
- 47:25Speaker 14: Messi and Tierri and Ree coming to the MLS, they
- 47:27Speaker 14: sometimes have it written in their contracts that they can't
- 47:29Speaker 14: play on turf.
- 47:31Speaker 1: Like it's it's a legit thing. So it's coming here
- 47:33Speaker 1: that much money.
- 47:34Speaker 15: You're just like, yeah, I won't I don't play on
- 47:37Speaker 15: in these games if it's yeah.
- 47:39Speaker 3: Like I don't write on any keyboard other than plastics, Like.
- 47:41Speaker 7: I don't want to.
- 47:43Speaker 4: Can we have like our own things like my finger,
- 47:45Speaker 4: my finger got jammed in this plastic keyboard. I'm if
- 47:48Speaker 4: it's raining, I work from home, like I can, I
- 47:50Speaker 4: can I set that president.
- 47:52Speaker 15: Cling is dripping on me from my desk.
- 47:54Speaker 3: I won't await that is what happening. But so so
- 47:58Speaker 3: here to let they're gonna place, They're gonna hill grass
- 48:00Speaker 3: in for a couple of years.
- 48:02Speaker 14: Five and then through the twenty twenty six season, and
- 48:04Speaker 14: who knows if the issue will be resolved by then,
- 48:07Speaker 14: Like who knows, But.
- 48:08Speaker 3: I don't think there's any issue to really resolve, Like
- 48:10Speaker 3: I just don't think the NFL is ever going to
- 48:11Speaker 3: go back to grass because like for here, they couldn't
- 48:14Speaker 3: do concerts, they couldn't do high school games. And I
- 48:16Speaker 3: don't want to ruin what the trivia was, but it
- 48:19Speaker 3: was a total mess and that necessitated like literally the
- 48:22Speaker 3: switch on the fly, but it wasn't.
- 48:24Speaker 4: I had to like I'm not you know me, I'm
- 48:26Speaker 4: not like this like football guy like that, but like,
- 48:28Speaker 4: isn't that football like Cory Dillon with the mud on
- 48:31Speaker 4: the jersey and like that Pyton.
- 48:34Speaker 14: Yeah, when we were just battering him and his white Colts,
- 48:37Speaker 14: jersey was just brown and green.
- 48:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that's the way it's supposed to. I mean,
- 48:41Speaker 3: I think to be fair. Though, there's a line that
- 48:43Speaker 3: like if it gets too muddy, this isn't like football anymore.
- 48:46Speaker 3: This is just like I much stopping in the mic,
- 48:49Speaker 3: like it playing.
- 48:51Speaker 14: In the mud in the longest yard when they like,
- 48:55Speaker 14: oh yeah, when they do some backyard bullshit.
- 48:58Speaker 1: Oh so I have I have some some.
- 49:07Speaker 4: Some analytics on this from data. So I guess from
- 49:12Speaker 4: a player perspective, the NFL p A and players, slit
- 49:17Speaker 4: film turf is the problem.
- 49:20Speaker 3: So that's the turf slit film.
- 49:22Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the turf at Medlife that is a disaster
- 49:27Speaker 4: along with my voice, and that's the that's the the
- 49:34Speaker 4: turf that Justin Jefferson just got heard on as well
- 49:37Speaker 4: in Minnesota. So slit film turf needs to go. Other
- 49:41Speaker 4: types of turf apparently are better, but not that film.
- 49:46Speaker 15: That just really accounts for injury wise, not necessarily the
- 49:50Speaker 15: dangerous chemicals.
- 49:52Speaker 4: I don't I I don't think anybody cares about the chemicals.
- 49:57Speaker 15: Well, the state of California cares. There's currently multiple loss
- 50:00Speaker 15: suits right now. Mark's Vineyard here too, pretty close to home.
- 50:03Speaker 15: That's Mike to your point. I think the only way
- 50:06Speaker 15: this changes is if it literally gets banned by governments,
- 50:11Speaker 15: because starting to see happen California. There's lawsuits. There's a
- 50:14Speaker 15: lawsuit in Martha's Vineyard. But yeah, like these pifos are
- 50:19Speaker 15: like really dangerous forever chemicals that if you're practicing on
- 50:23Speaker 15: this turf all the time, if you're playing games on it.
- 50:27Speaker 15: I mean they've been able to try and link the
- 50:30Speaker 15: the cancer diagnosis rare brain cancer. A bunch of Phillies
- 50:34Speaker 15: players all got the same type of cancer that they
- 50:37Speaker 15: linked back to the turf that they were practicing and
- 50:40Speaker 15: playing on. So the links are starting to get made.
- 50:44Speaker 15: It's kind of in its infancy right now, but I
- 50:47Speaker 15: think we're going to start to see lawsuits, especially in
- 50:49Speaker 15: the more earthy, crunchy places throughout the country. It'll start there,
- 50:53Speaker 15: but then it'll really expand.
- 50:54Speaker 3: I think I was about to make a joke that
- 50:55Speaker 3: you know, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, there's
- 50:57Speaker 3: just a giant football field floating right, you know, like
- 51:00Speaker 3: and vortex out there. But I won't because that's on
- 51:02Speaker 3: top of the trash. That sounds pretty serious. They're gonna
- 51:05Speaker 3: just play on that on the middle of the Pacific.
- 51:07Speaker 3: But yeah, I don't, I don't know. I guess we'll
- 51:09Speaker 3: see if they are, what kind of injuries there are
- 51:11Speaker 3: when they do go back to grass, and if there
- 51:13Speaker 3: are less injuries than perhaps the nfl P will have
- 51:15Speaker 3: some some ammo to say, hey, is there a way
- 51:19Speaker 3: to get around, like you guys still being able to
- 51:21Speaker 3: do concerts and you know, use the field throughout the week.
- 51:23Speaker 3: I mean, we know here how much there's always just
- 51:25Speaker 3: teams of concert people out there.
- 51:28Speaker 1: You hear.
- 51:29Speaker 3: You don't hear any construction right now, which is rare,
- 51:31Speaker 3: but usually you do because that's what they're doing. They're
- 51:32Speaker 3: setting up stuff and putting stuff on top of that.
- 51:34Speaker 4: I also wonder is there like cleat technology that we
- 51:39Speaker 4: can get into that because I think a big problem
- 51:44Speaker 4: is is that players their their feet and their cleats
- 51:48Speaker 4: are getting stuck in the turf and then they go
- 51:50Speaker 4: to cut in their foot stays and their knegos.
- 51:53Speaker 3: Right or there AI clean.
- 51:56Speaker 4: So is there something that Nike whatever can do to
- 52:01Speaker 4: update cleet technology.
- 52:03Speaker 3: But are they wearing.
- 52:03Speaker 15: Normal cleats on turf yet?
- 52:06Speaker 3: No, it's just it's normal cleete technology.
- 52:08Speaker 14: The thing I want to get into there are two parts.
- 52:10Speaker 14: One is everybody talks about the injuries. You know, you
- 52:12Speaker 14: see Aaron Rodgers achilles pretty much explode.
- 52:15Speaker 1: That's on turf.
- 52:16Speaker 14: But then the next week or two weeks later, Nick
- 52:19Speaker 14: Chubb has that catastrophic injury and that's on grass. So like,
- 52:21Speaker 14: oh look at this, Yeah, it's football stuff happens. But
- 52:25Speaker 14: what's interesting is people don't talk about a lot. Lambeau
- 52:28Speaker 14: Field has one of the only types of grass like this.
- 52:31Speaker 14: It's grass that's mixed with turf. And that's why I
- 52:35Speaker 14: like remember back in the Earth twenty tens, like once
- 52:38Speaker 14: you hit playoff season, it was straight bread. It was straight,
- 52:41Speaker 14: straight brown mud. But that's why Lambo's so good now
- 52:44Speaker 14: because they're using a hybrid. And I mean they still
- 52:47Speaker 14: have all the concerts because I don't think there's any
- 52:48Speaker 14: other places of concerts in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
- 52:50Speaker 15: I think there's at least one more stadium using that
- 52:52Speaker 15: hybrid too.
- 52:53Speaker 3: Trash trash. I like the other one better, Purff. But
- 53:01Speaker 3: let's let's get into that girf technology. Maybe use some
- 53:03Speaker 3: of Evans cleats and though we'll come up with an answer.
- 53:05Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, But I'm challenging. Is Nike a sponsor, Matt, like,
- 53:09Speaker 4: can I do this? I'm challenging Nike to make better
- 53:13Speaker 4: cleats for the turf. Do better?
- 53:16Speaker 3: They just wear like we couldn't.
- 53:18Speaker 15: Wear indoor soccer? Could you had?
- 53:21Speaker 3: Sambos guy back?
- 53:26Speaker 14: All right, guys, good, good topic here.
- 53:29Speaker 3: I think we got to the bottom of it.
- 53:31Speaker 1: We got yeah, Nike girl, bring well the girl we
- 53:36Speaker 1: found on Instagram.
- 53:37Speaker 14: We're gonna bring her the health guru.
- 53:42Speaker 3: Instagram exactly.
- 53:44Speaker 14: All right, guys, send your answers in the webreary dot com.
- 53:46Speaker 14: You're going to do you half that show.
- 53:48Speaker 16: Like when someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes,
- 53:56Speaker 16: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of
- 53:59Speaker 16: to the livery everyone could focus on the perfect opening
- 54:02Speaker 16: night FedEx where now it's next for residential delivery only.
- 54:08Speaker 3: And now great moments in.
- 54:13Speaker 1: History.
- 54:13Speaker 4: I wasn't I wasn't born for for eighty five obviously,
- 54:18Speaker 4: But you know my dad, my uncle's, you know, grandfathers.
- 54:22Speaker 4: They would tell me about stories about that Super Bowl
- 54:25Speaker 4: and they were just happy to beat in that Super Bowl,
- 54:28Speaker 4: and they knew they were going to get their doors
- 54:30Speaker 4: blown off by the eighty five Bears.
- 54:32Speaker 3: Like there was nothing.
- 54:33Speaker 4: There was no conversation of whether or not they were
- 54:35Speaker 4: going to win that game. But the Packers Super Bowl,
- 54:38Speaker 4: they they probably should have won the game just the
- 54:41Speaker 4: way that the game unfolded. And to me, Parcels is
- 54:46Speaker 4: much to blame. I mean Reggie White, like, can we
- 54:49Speaker 4: we don't put a tight end over there, chip them,
- 54:51Speaker 4: like do something.
- 54:52Speaker 3: This is all retroactive because how old were you in
- 54:54Speaker 3: ninety six four? He's so mad, like you're kicking off
- 54:58Speaker 3: the desman little bit the Evan get mad whipping his blanket.
- 55:02Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 55:06Speaker 4: Score Big.
- 55:07Speaker 1: With Bob's unbeatable savings on power reclining furniture perfect for
- 55:11Speaker 1: Paul and game day viewing. With features like hidden drop
- 55:15Speaker 1: down tables for snacks and BEVs and convenient USB ports,
- 55:18Speaker 1: you'll never have to get up and miss a play,
- 55:21Speaker 1: but only when you shop at Bob's, the official furniture
- 55:24Speaker 1: store of the New England Patriots.
- 55:26Speaker 4: Say Paul in the copy, I think it did.
- 55:29Speaker 1: Yeah, do you have a power recliner ball.
- 55:34Speaker 7: Yeah you do.
- 55:35Speaker 4: I do too.
- 55:36Speaker 6: They're part of the sectional. Yeah, it's not like a
- 55:39Speaker 6: separate recline.
- 55:40Speaker 3: Like battery operated or like you don't have electric you
- 55:43Speaker 3: plug it in.
- 55:43Speaker 4: Yeah, there's a massage too, but it's it's nice.
- 55:49Speaker 3: I mean you don't even have to pull the thing out.
- 55:52Speaker 7: What's that to get one of those at Brookstone?
- 55:54Speaker 4: No, it's from Bob's.
- 55:57Speaker 3: Okay, you go, Yeah, I got a real customer here, Yeah,
- 56:00Speaker 3: real real.
- 56:02Speaker 7: Maybe the next time you can put Evans name in
- 56:04Speaker 7: the copy. Hi, I'm Evan Lazar.
- 56:06Speaker 4: You might know me from pay Off min.
- 56:08Speaker 1: When I'm watching All twenty two, I need to be
- 56:10Speaker 1: comfortable because it's an all day affair.
- 56:12Speaker 4: That's true. I sit in the recliner. That's that's where
- 56:15Speaker 4: I said, really, oh.
- 56:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought I pictured you at a desk with notes,
- 56:20Speaker 3: like one of those couple of screens.
- 56:21Speaker 7: One of those lights on his head, you know, for Nope.
- 56:24Speaker 4: Extra a couple and like sometimes Atlas like wants to
- 56:29Speaker 4: join and I'm just like all right, like fine, and
- 56:31Speaker 4: but then he gets in the way.
- 56:32Speaker 3: He sees the Patriots film and he's like wolf like
- 56:34Speaker 3: you said it outlets all right?
- 56:37Speaker 1: Eight five five past five hundred is the ACE ticket
- 56:39Speaker 1: hotline at the halftime show, the show within the show
- 56:43Speaker 1: we gave away? What do we give Away's gone?
- 56:47Speaker 6: You know the iway a lot of give me, give
- 56:51Speaker 6: me a second.
- 56:52Speaker 1: In two thousand and five of December, in a game
- 56:55Speaker 1: against the Buccaneers, which offensive lineman caught his first NFL
- 57:00Speaker 1: touchdown pass after lining up as an eligible tight end.
- 57:04Speaker 1: Who was it?
- 57:07Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 57:07Speaker 1: I'm going to.
- 57:09Speaker 3: Against that man?
- 57:11Speaker 1: Bart and Poland one another one to Poland. Yeah, I
- 57:14Speaker 1: think I don't think this is Bart's first rodeo. I
- 57:16Speaker 1: think he's one. We want to post Bart, Bart, You'll
- 57:21Speaker 1: get neither of those because in a Volve shipping.
- 57:24Speaker 4: Okay, how's March.
- 57:26Speaker 1: The Patriots first playoff game in franchise history was in
- 57:29Speaker 1: the AFL in nineteen sixty three. They defeated the Buffalo
- 57:33Speaker 1: Bills and the af AFL Divisional Playoff twenty six to eight. However,
- 57:38Speaker 1: they lost the AFL Championship game fifty one to ten
- 57:42Speaker 1: to which other AFL team? Tim Henson our friend from
- 57:48Speaker 1: Duncan hey r And finally, what year did you Lette
- 57:53Speaker 1: Stadium switch to artificial turf?
- 57:56Speaker 7: Two thousand and six.
- 57:56Speaker 1: That's correct. Jonah Hughes got it bad.
- 57:59Speaker 3: Lost the jets correct, which we powdered during the week
- 58:04Speaker 3: off may mean changes? Did that we were actually gonna
- 58:07Speaker 3: change the whole field over the bye week?
- 58:10Speaker 1: All right? Eight five five pass five hundred is the
- 58:13Speaker 1: a stick and hotline? Web radio at pages dot com
- 58:15Speaker 1: is the email address. Man, I see a lot of it,
- 58:18Speaker 1: people coming in and out. I'm getting nervous. What's going on?
- 58:21Speaker 3: They're replacing a computer in the other room.
- 58:23Speaker 1: Okay, okay, that's an not our end nothing on it. Okay, good?
- 58:26Speaker 1: All right?
- 58:27Speaker 3: Line three sound one, line.
- 58:28Speaker 1: Yeah, Line three, yeah, I just restarted it. All right,
- 58:32Speaker 1: let's get back to the ATACK hotline. Christians in Georgia.
- 58:36Speaker 1: Another Christian? What's up, Christian?
- 58:39Speaker 17: Hey got plenty be over with the guys. I just
- 58:41Speaker 17: had a quick question. You guys touched on it yesterday.
- 58:44Speaker 17: Uh So you talked about drafting a quarterback in the
- 58:48Speaker 17: draft this year, but in my mind, you roll with
- 58:51Speaker 17: Mac through this year, and that's year because all of
- 58:54Speaker 17: you have acknowledged that the offense does not work. It
- 58:57Speaker 17: doesn't work with any quarterback unless it's Patrick Mahomes. So
- 59:01Speaker 17: you either let Bill O'Brien, fix Matc or you draft
- 59:06Speaker 17: a quarterback in twenty twenty five, but this year you
- 59:09Speaker 17: draft a guy that can actually come in and help
- 59:11Speaker 17: the offense, whether that's Marvin Harrison, oh, Luther Shaan, who
- 59:15Speaker 17: even a Brock Powers who can be your true number one.
- 59:17Speaker 17: But even though he's a tight end, what do you
- 59:19Speaker 17: guys think I'll take him off there?
- 59:21Speaker 1: It's it's one strategy.
- 59:23Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a lot of well thought out that's right.
- 59:25Speaker 3: That's that's how I feel. That's how I feel right now.
- 59:27Speaker 3: I mean, I think it all changes if you're you know,
- 59:28Speaker 3: have a shot at the guys we've talked about Kayley Williams,
- 59:31Speaker 3: Jake May.
- 59:32Speaker 1: But you know, it's just you can't keep chasing the
- 59:34Speaker 1: bottom line regardless. I think, is your drafting offense first, yes.
- 59:38Speaker 3: Oh, no question.
- 59:39Speaker 4: I mean you got to running the board.
- 59:40Speaker 3: Yeah no, But it's so if.
- 59:43Speaker 1: This person, if Christian from Georgia is he's certainly regardless
- 59:46Speaker 1: even if you don't have a shot at the top QB,
- 59:49Speaker 1: you're drafting offense.
- 59:50Speaker 4: If they're picking like seventh, then brock Bowers or somebody
- 59:56Speaker 4: like that probably makes more sense. But I think, you know,
- 59:59Speaker 4: just looking at this class. This is a really good
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: quarterback class. And I know that twenty twenty one was
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: also a really good quarterback class. And really it looks
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: like Trevor Lawrence might be the only really good quarterback
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: to come out of that class.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: But wait a minute, was it really that good a
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: quarterback class or will we just dealing with which class?
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: That justin Field's class and Max class.
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: And I think it was a good class.
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: Trey Lance.
- 1:00:23Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, Now they haven't panned out other than Lawrence,
- 1:00:27Speaker 6: but I mean they were well thought of.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: I mean I think basically what I'm saying is have
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: we lowered the bar for QB prospects?
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: No, I think we've done the opposite. Actually, yeah, I
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: think teams are getting smarter about it. Like a few
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: years ago when Kenny Pickett was the I think the
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: only first rounder, right, and they didn't take no One reached,
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: they didn't take the cheese on like Malik Willis and
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: Sam Howell who ends up actually being okay. But like,
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: I think that teams are getting a little bit smarter
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: about it. This quarterback class. You know, between Williams, Pennix
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: and May, you're talking about a three elite quarterback prospects,
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: you think, and this is.
- 1:01:04Speaker 6: Probably not the right time for this, but like do
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: you add like like Sanders or like JJ McCarthy or
- 1:01:10Speaker 6: any of those.
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: I don't know JJ McCarthy. No, I think Sanders interesting.
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: Is they're gonna draft mac Jones JJS.
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: So if you're telling me that, like you're gonna draft
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: a guy like JJ McCarthy on day two and try
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: to like Jalen Hurts it where like he's gonna push
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: the first round quarterback and that type of thing, I
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: I guess, like, you know, that's that's fine, Like that's
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: not what I would do, but like I'm saying, like
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: that's not the like the worst thing in the world.
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: Shrewder is interesting, but I I ultimately I think he
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: goes back to Colorado because of his dad. Yeah, so
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: I think I'll go back to Colorado for one more year.
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: But if I have a chance to draft Williams may
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: or Pennix, I I don't really care about brock Bowers.
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: I'm taking the quarterback.
- 1:01:56Speaker 6: So my big thing, you know, And I like the
- 1:01:59Speaker 6: I like to call because I thought there was some
- 1:02:01Speaker 6: some good thought that went into it, not just like
- 1:02:04Speaker 6: I don't want to do that because that never works. No,
- 1:02:06Speaker 6: he's thinking about what to do. MY big thing would be,
- 1:02:10Speaker 6: this is all sort of hinging on what you're doing
- 1:02:13Speaker 6: at coach. Like he says, let O'Brien try to fix Mac.
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: Great.
- 1:02:18Speaker 7: That means Bill staying Bill Belichick.
- 1:02:21Speaker 4: Not necessarily like.
- 1:02:24Speaker 7: Probably I would.
- 1:02:25Speaker 4: I mean, there's a I think there's a good chance
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: that Gerrodmeyo is the head coach and Bill O'Brien's as
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: offensive coordinator.
- 1:02:31Speaker 6: That I would say that I want a new quarterback
- 1:02:33Speaker 6: if that's the case, and I'm really anti that plan,
- 1:02:37Speaker 6: But that's just that that's a personal thing. I think
- 1:02:42Speaker 6: if you staying with with Belichick, then I think it
- 1:02:45Speaker 6: makes some sense to do with the caller. It was
- 1:02:46Speaker 6: a Christian in Georgia that was the caller, right. I
- 1:02:48Speaker 6: think what he says makes a lot of sense. Give
- 1:02:50Speaker 6: him a fourth year, still affordable, still time to do
- 1:02:53Speaker 6: the Evan plan of putting some you know, higher priced
- 1:02:56Speaker 6: pieces around him because he's still technically on the rookie and.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: Then if he's gone, you have the pieces. I would
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: just be.
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: Really wary of drafting a skill player and handing him
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: to Bill Belichick because I don't think that Bill Belichick
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: has proven to be able to develop that position, So what.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: About a skill player in handing him to Bill O'Brien
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: as the offense.
- 1:03:17Speaker 4: Like a little bit better? But like if Marvin Harrison
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: gets into his first game in fumbles, is he going
- 1:03:21Speaker 4: to be on the bench for the next five games
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: or are they going to let him keep playing?
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: Right?
- 1:03:24Speaker 11: Like?
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: You know, I just those types of things are are
- 1:03:28Speaker 4: where I just I don't know. I can't trust Bill
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: on offense period, like whether it's a quarterback or it's not,
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: it's a skill player.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Let's see what David in New York has to say?
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: What's up? David? Hey, guys, how's it going good?
- 1:03:42Speaker 11: So?
- 1:03:42Speaker 9: I had a show point and then a draft point.
- 1:03:45Speaker 9: Actually right, so the show point. I find that the
- 1:03:50Speaker 9: show is at its funniest when Fred goes completely off
- 1:03:53Speaker 9: the rails and when Paul references a Top forty song
- 1:03:56Speaker 9: from ten years ago. I'm still laughing about the how
- 1:04:02Speaker 9: does my ask taste.
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: That's not off the rails? Well? Top?
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: You know that.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: Quiet David is David's time.
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: You haven't asked a question, I know, But he's trying
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: to talk.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: I can't hear what he's saying.
- 1:04:21Speaker 9: Am I having connection issues.
- 1:04:22Speaker 7: Or no, you're Fred's talking over you.
- 1:04:26Speaker 9: Okay, okay, So my draft question was Paul mentioned it.
- 1:04:30Speaker 9: I think it was yesterday, the comment of you know,
- 1:04:35Speaker 9: how can William hass his list of teams that you
- 1:04:37Speaker 9: prefer to go to? And he mentioned the Patriots aren't
- 1:04:40Speaker 9: on it and thinks that's the concern. He did also
- 1:04:43Speaker 9: say in that same quote that he would play anywhere,
- 1:04:45Speaker 9: and I'd also don't you think that people weren't expecting
- 1:04:48Speaker 9: the Patriots to be in this situation? So that's why
- 1:04:51Speaker 9: he would leave them off?
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: Maybe yea, how about you hire his head coach and
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: they can come together. That's what I would do.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: That would be wild, That's what I would do. I
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: don't know, I don't know. That's to me, that's too much?
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: Is it too much?
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: I just I don't know us the whole I don't know.
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: Dudn't dun't dun't dun't.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: D Do you really like him?
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: Lincoln Riley?
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: Yeah, everyone's gonna need a moment.
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, I mean, you're the whole point is to
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: get the next Shanahan. He's sitting right there and he's
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: gonna come as a package deal. With the number one
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: quarterback in the draft.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: Do you worry if you do that then the head
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: coach is too biased for his quarterback and won't look
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: at him objectively.
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: I don't think it's gonna matter with Caleb Williams.
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, all right, all right, Line three is getting
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: back to line three. But thanks for the call, David.
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: Line three.
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: We thought we had it, but no reverted.
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: Like you know, started off the game pretty good line
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: three and then it just fell apart.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: We're back to like talking to Winston Churchill.
- 1:05:59Speaker 7: Is it practice time?
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: It's about that time going to practice. Eddie's in Maine.
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: What's up, Eddie? Eddie? Is Eddie? There?
- 1:06:11Speaker 14: Is that?
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: The second Eddie to Eddie drops.
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: Now I gotta drop Eddie. Eric's in New Jersey. What's
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: up Eric? Hey?
- 1:06:19Speaker 18: How he does doing? He got two points, one for
- 1:06:23Speaker 18: for Marcus Jones and then one a little pushback football.
- 1:06:27Speaker 18: I think Marcus Jones again, defensively, I don't think he's
- 1:06:30Speaker 18: you know, better utilized as a defensive back. I mean,
- 1:06:33Speaker 18: if you think, maybe switch his percentage, you know, play
- 1:06:35Speaker 18: percentage to the offense side. I know he said he
- 1:06:37Speaker 18: wanted to play, you know, he wants to be a
- 1:06:39Speaker 18: defensive back. But just for his size and his style
- 1:06:42Speaker 18: of play again the recurrent shoulder injuries. I think it's
- 1:06:44Speaker 18: his best suitable maybe to get his assets. He's his asset,
- 1:06:48Speaker 18: you know. I'm with it, rather as as opposed to
- 1:06:53Speaker 18: one or two shots, you know, play the game that
- 1:06:55Speaker 18: may you know, as a decoy. Rather just get that likelihood.
- 1:06:58Speaker 18: But just to push back on uh.
- 1:07:02Speaker 7: Oh, all right, just call back boy.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: We're having trouble with the phone.
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: As soon as somebody tries to disagree with Paul, we're like, nope.
- 1:07:08Speaker 6: Good job, good job, Matt. No call back, because I'm
- 1:07:11Speaker 6: curious to see I agree with this point on Marcus Jones.
- 1:07:15Speaker 6: I have we talked about this a little in the summer.
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: I have not.
- 1:07:19Speaker 7: I think Marcus Jones is electric.
- 1:07:21Speaker 6: I have not seen really anything as a defensive back
- 1:07:23Speaker 6: to lead me to believe he's anything more than a
- 1:07:26Speaker 6: dime back. Yeah, you know, sixth you know, six or
- 1:07:29Speaker 6: seventh defensive back in a good secondary. I see him
- 1:07:33Speaker 6: chasing a lot. The size really worries me. But offensively
- 1:07:39Speaker 6: and as a part returner, when the balls in his hands,
- 1:07:41Speaker 6: things happen. So I wouldn't be opposed to saying let's
- 1:07:45Speaker 6: make it more of a full time offensive player and
- 1:07:47Speaker 6: see if there's something there I wouldn't be opposed to.
- 1:07:49Speaker 6: He was healthy, probably him talking about but like he
- 1:07:53Speaker 6: got a chance to play offense, it seemed this year.
- 1:07:56Speaker 6: I mean I never saw him do anything maybe once
- 1:07:57Speaker 6: or twice. I don't even mean on the field during
- 1:08:00Speaker 6: the games, because he got hurt right away. He got
- 1:08:02Speaker 6: hurt in the Miami game, right yep, early in the
- 1:08:04Speaker 6: Miami game.
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: If I recall uh Donovan Donnie in Pittsburgh, any substance
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: to the suggestion that Bill gave up on Mac and
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: or this roster he built sometime in the middle of
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: last year. I think if you look at the draft
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: free agent acquisitions from that point of view, they make
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: a bit more sense as getting by moves building toward
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: twenty twenty four, when we will have a lot more
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: cap to compete in free agency in a higher draft pick.
- 1:08:30Speaker 7: But why would you make that decision last year?
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: Right?
- 1:08:33Speaker 6: Like, if you've thought that way now, I mean I
- 1:08:36Speaker 6: think there's validity to that. I mean, what are you
- 1:08:39Speaker 6: going to put more resources into now? Like you were
- 1:08:42Speaker 6: talking yesterday about the Van Jefferson thing.
- 1:08:44Speaker 7: You know, you wouldn't. No, I know, but like you
- 1:08:46Speaker 7: wouldn't want to put resources into that.
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: And I know he went for a pick swap again
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: because that seems to be the him in the seventh
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: for a sixth.
- 1:08:54Speaker 7: Yeah, the in vogue trade is trading a seventh for
- 1:08:57Speaker 7: a sixth, you know, in a player.
- 1:09:01Speaker 6: But I wouldn't want to give up anything that I
- 1:09:04Speaker 6: deemed at all valuable for one and fourteen. No, you know,
- 1:09:09Speaker 6: maybe at Halloween when the trade deadline comes around, maybe
- 1:09:12Speaker 6: you've you know, you're shown some signs of life. Maybe
- 1:09:14Speaker 6: you're three and four then or whatever for and for
- 1:09:17Speaker 6: even who knows, let's play three games.
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: Let's go back to Eric, you can finish up this point.
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: Sorry about that, Eric, So yeah.
- 1:09:24Speaker 18: Yeah, I'm sorry. In no worries, So yeah, I think
- 1:09:27Speaker 18: even Fred, do you agree with with PAULI on this
- 1:09:29Speaker 18: where you guys say builds a good drafter. I think
- 1:09:31Speaker 18: it's kind of hard to say builds a good drafting.
- 1:09:33Speaker 18: I mean you have to really compare them for like
- 1:09:36Speaker 18: Audy Newtomb I mean as.
- 1:09:37Speaker 10: Opposed to length of time that builds.
- 1:09:39Speaker 18: You know, most coaches gms aren't lastly obviously duration you know,
- 1:09:42Speaker 18: Bill has lasted, but you know, to compare him to
- 1:09:44Speaker 18: this pier, I would say, like Audy Newsom would the
- 1:09:46Speaker 18: most comparable, just for lengths, I mean I think it's
- 1:09:49Speaker 18: I think you would just say Oddy drafted a whole
- 1:09:52Speaker 18: better roster. I mean just from year every year if
- 1:09:54Speaker 18: you look at the players he drafted, and it's uh,
- 1:09:56Speaker 18: you know. So I think that was just like, get
- 1:09:58Speaker 18: my one pushback and I'll take it off the line.
- 1:09:59Speaker 10: Thanks.
- 1:10:00Speaker 6: No, that's that's fair. In my defense, I made the
- 1:10:04Speaker 6: comment about how good of a drafter I thought Bill
- 1:10:06Speaker 6: was a long time ago, and my feeling was at
- 1:10:10Speaker 6: the time when I said it was. Andy used to
- 1:10:13Speaker 6: push back on that a lot, but my feeling was
- 1:10:17Speaker 6: he never has glaring misses, Like it's not the first
- 1:10:20Speaker 6: round pick that just can't play or a second round
- 1:10:22Speaker 6: pick that ends up getting cut. Now, in the last
- 1:10:26Speaker 6: say six eight years, there's been a lot of those.
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:10:29Speaker 6: You know Dominic Easley, Malcolm Brown, you know Nikhil Harry,
- 1:10:33Speaker 6: Duke Dawson, Juwan Williams, you know Cyrus Jones. Has been
- 1:10:37Speaker 6: a lot of first two round picks that really didn't
- 1:10:41Speaker 6: have the ability to play in the league.
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: Yeah, the most interesting Patriots fan in the world James
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: Wright saying, what's the NFL record for resets per season?
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: I believe it's six.
- 1:10:57Speaker 7: We're on three, We're on six.
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: I think they'll pall. That's everything. I know, those those misses,
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: and it goes back to what I was saying yesterday.
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: It's like, you know, yeah, he hit on plenty of
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: draft picks over those twenty years. He's hit on some
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: amazing draft picks. I mean, Brady Gronk Edelman, you know,
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: I mean, but it's just been the absence of those,
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: especially at the high round guys, which you can't afford
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: to miss.
- 1:11:19Speaker 7: And that's what my feeling was.
- 1:11:20Speaker 6: And this is going back, like I said, this is
- 1:11:22Speaker 6: going back at least ten to twelve years, this argument.
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: But like twenty six, all the first round.
- 1:11:27Speaker 6: Picks were good. You know, it was Seymour Mankins, you know,
- 1:11:32Speaker 6: Will Fork. There was like hit hit, hit, I mean,
- 1:11:35Speaker 6: like impact players every time. He never missed on a
- 1:11:39Speaker 6: first round pick until he did, and then all of
- 1:11:42Speaker 6: a sudden, it's you know, maybe it's the LATA averages.
- 1:11:45Speaker 6: But Fred and I used to yeah, and we deserve
- 1:11:48Speaker 6: our criticism for that. We used to be very defensive
- 1:11:50Speaker 6: of Bill's draft record, me more so than Fred. But
- 1:11:53Speaker 6: I deserve the criticism for that.
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: But I mean, like, you know, drafting Chandler Jones and
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: Dante high Tower, you know, aggressively. That's probably the last time,
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: you know, and I felt really good and those and
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: you got a bunch of Super Bowls because of them.
- 1:12:06Speaker 6: Since then, it's been the Easily and the Browns and
- 1:12:09Speaker 6: you know, the Harry's wins.
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: Yep, let's see. Roland noticed.
- 1:12:16Speaker 5: It takes my physical pain to not say Schandler.
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it does. He has to correct himself, Roland writes
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: him from the UK. At what point do we take
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: back the criticism of Matty p No, I think, listen, well.
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: I would do your thing because you were defensive of him. Listen,
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: I'm not taking anybody.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: After further review, there's no doubt he was a square pagan,
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: a round hole. Okay, there's no doubt about it. However,
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: I still feel he was asked to do the job.
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: He did the best he could, and he didn't deserve
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: the personal attacks that you know, we're given to him,
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: and I think he deserves a thank you. I still
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: think that.
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: You got your you got your apology. But I would
- 1:12:59Speaker 3: just say this, and.
- 1:13:03Speaker 6: I never thought last year was solely about Matt Patricia,
- 1:13:07Speaker 6: So I don't want to be accused of revisionist history here. Like,
- 1:13:12Speaker 6: I think it was a terrible move. I think he
- 1:13:14Speaker 6: was ill suited. He had never coached offense really certainly
- 1:13:17Speaker 6: never coached offensive skilled position players.
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: I think it made no sense.
- 1:13:23Speaker 6: And the to me, the iyre that went to Patricia,
- 1:13:27Speaker 6: for me, was more born out in the way that
- 1:13:29Speaker 6: the players basically openly revolted against him. They had no
- 1:13:34Speaker 6: respect for his ability to implement the offense. They openly
- 1:13:38Speaker 6: questioned whether or not he knew what he was doing.
- 1:13:41Speaker 6: I did, not, however, blame the lack of offensive production
- 1:13:45Speaker 6: on Matt Patricia the way the vast majority of my
- 1:13:48Speaker 6: colleagues did.
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: Yeah, And I mean, I just think the perspective now
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: is like, look at a competent offensive coordinator like Bill O'Brien,
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: which I mean, even despite the results that he's having
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: problems and it's just the roster. I mean, it's worse.
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: Can you imagine Matt Patricia, Like, I mean, he's got
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: to coach the offensive line too, Like, I mean, it's right,
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: it was.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: It was a lot I don't know situation that he
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: was put in, and he agreed to do it. You know,
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: he could have said no, but he agreed to do it.
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: Maybe he thought he could do it, maybe he was
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: overestimating his own abilities. But he gave it a shot.
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: And I don't think he deserved the vitriol that he received.
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: I you know, yeah, that's it's.
- 1:14:25Speaker 7: A Bill thing and that and that's just that vitriol
- 1:14:27Speaker 7: should have gone.
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: To the po And if it was, like I agree,
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: you burned twenty twenty, you kind of burned last year.
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: And you know, right now, it's like we're hanging in
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: the balance to see if this is this year's getting
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: burned too.
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: Let's go to Ted and Maine. What's up Ted?
- 1:14:42Speaker 8: Hey, Hey, guys, I just wanted to ask him. It
- 1:14:46Speaker 8: seems like this has been a four to five year
- 1:14:48Speaker 8: train wreck in the making and that we're just seeing
- 1:14:51Speaker 8: it start crashing or really crashing.
- 1:14:53Speaker 9: At this point.
- 1:14:55Speaker 8: So yeah, I firmly believe like we got a maxic
- 1:14:59Speaker 8: clout on the field, got to get rid of him,
- 1:15:01Speaker 8: We got a fire belt check the craft need to
- 1:15:03Speaker 8: treat Bill like Bill has treated his players for his
- 1:15:07Speaker 8: entire career. Getting rid of him sooner rather than later.
- 1:15:10Speaker 8: So my question is how many more consecutive losses for
- 1:15:14Speaker 8: each of you, guys before you feel comfortable even being
- 1:15:18Speaker 8: part of the organization saying, hey, it's it's time to
- 1:15:21Speaker 8: build to go. And then also, who would be your
- 1:15:24Speaker 8: number one top pick it's replaced?
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: Yeah, thanks guys, Okay, thanks. I I I give him
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: the season, yep, regardless. I don't care if they lose
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: sixty to nothing for the rest of the season every game.
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: He stays for the rest of the season, and then
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: and then you make your move with you. I have
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: no idea who to replace him with. I really don't.
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: I mean, Lincoln Riley could be good. This guy Ben Johnson,
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: if you can stop yelling at people, maybe he's good.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: I don't know. I haven't really thought about it that much.
- 1:15:51Speaker 7: I remember, is there a thing there?
- 1:15:53Speaker 8: You know?
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: Last year?
- 1:15:54Speaker 7: What Ben Johnson?
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: Yeah, remember the caller that was oh, oh, oh, yes.
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: I'm sorry his kids play.
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: Not really, I mean last year last year, when it
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: became apparent that there was going to be a change
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: of coordinator, we were looking at who could be the
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: next coordinator, and I remember Ben Johnson's name came up,
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: but not for head coach last year. Now, I don't know,
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: I don't know. I have to think about, you know,
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: and I'm not an expert.
- 1:16:18Speaker 7: His name came up for head coaching around.
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: The league, not not here.
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: I just need to generally the theory of hiring an
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: offensive coordinator, make him your coach so that you know
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: that you're going to maintain your offensive continuity throughout the
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: ragn isn't the.
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: Bigger question right now? If Bill isn't here, who's the GM?
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: Isn't that as big a question? If not bigger?
- 1:16:38Speaker 7: Sure?
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: And that's why it's you know, a nice relationship that
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: they've got going, you know, in San Francisco, and you know,
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: you hope that you could maybe emulate that a little
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: bit and that you know, just it's it's it really
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: protects the franchise. And I I mean, I think this
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: is a good point that's come up over the last
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: couple of weeks of if you know, you do have
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: a defensive coach, you're always going to be doing what
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: the Patriots are doing trying to turn over the roster.
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: And you know, it's interesting here because Bill is so
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: you know, connected to an offensive scheme, and you know,
- 1:17:03Speaker 3: I assume that they've kind of maintained some semblance of
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: that throughout each of the different you know, they haven't
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: been a lot of offensive coordinators, but you know he's
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: always That's why, Like it's like, well, of course they're
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: going to be back Bill O'Brien.
- 1:17:13Speaker 4: Who else would he have brought back?
- 1:17:14Speaker 3: You know, there was no one else really to even consider,
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: which I think in some ways might have been you know,
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: maybe we should have looked a little bit far and
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: more far and wide to see, you know, can we
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: can we maybe change the equation a little bit? Are
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: we trying to get back to something that we're never
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: going to get back to?
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: Thomas writes in He's from Maine as well. He says,
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: one comment, my developing take that I've had on Bill
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: the last few weeks is that Colon Bill has earned
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: the right to leave on his own terms, but has
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: lost the right to stay on his own terms. I'll
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: be interested to see how things work out in the
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: off season.
- 1:17:48Speaker 3: I'm with you, though, I mean, he's he's built this
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: ship for twenty years, and you know, to make him,
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: you know, walk the plank right now, let you know,
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: let him show us the way out of this because quick, wow,
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: and Evan's back all right as we turned?
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: And has we turned?
- 1:18:10Speaker 9: Has we turned.
- 1:18:16Speaker 4: All right?
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: Evan? Yeah? That was kind of quick.
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: What else is new? Michael? And went back at practice
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: today for the Patriots? So by my memory which sometimes
- 1:18:27Speaker 4: does fail me, but I think it's pretty good on
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: this one. This is about as healthy as the offensive
- 1:18:32Speaker 4: line has been since really the spring. I don't even know,
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: you know, I mean they have.
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: You never had all five of those guys out there
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: at once.
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: They have all five.
- 1:18:42Speaker 6: Project the starters out of Yeah, they're all out there,
- 1:18:45Speaker 6: but like Strange missed the last two games and when
- 1:18:47Speaker 6: you didn't finish the.
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: Last game, right, so they're there, knock on wood.
- 1:18:52Speaker 7: This is the healthiest they've been.
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: But that's scary having those guys physically out at practice.
- 1:18:57Speaker 4: I think for the maybe one of the first times
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: all year that all five of.
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: Them, and when you never practiced in the summer, right,
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: So Strange not at practice last week. He's been in practice.
- 1:19:08Speaker 4: Yeah he was, but it seems like he's getting closer
- 1:19:13Speaker 4: because for whatever that's worse.
- 1:19:15Speaker 6: Definitely Reef was not at practice when when you Strange
- 1:19:18Speaker 6: came back, so you have a chance you're saying, there's
- 1:19:22Speaker 6: a chance. Ready, there's a chance, you have a chance
- 1:19:24Speaker 6: to get five, the five that you probably went into
- 1:19:29Speaker 6: the spring thinking would be your starters.
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: Wouldn't it be funny and anything could happened. But as
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: the season progresses, the offense starts to be good and
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: then the defense fails.
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: Because you know that happens.
- 1:19:44Speaker 6: That happens with bad teams is you can't seem It's
- 1:19:47Speaker 6: like you can't get good pitching the day.
- 1:19:49Speaker 7: You hit right.
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: You can't your short games off the day or great
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: off the team.
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: Whatever.
- 1:19:55Speaker 4: Yeah, same other than that same attendance. The two receivers
- 1:19:59Speaker 4: Juju and Pop Douglas not there in concussion protocol, and
- 1:20:03Speaker 4: I keep listening them until they put him on. IR
- 1:20:05Speaker 4: Matthew Judon obviously not there either, you should but he's
- 1:20:09Speaker 4: you know, some people have stopped and I'm like, look,
- 1:20:12Speaker 4: this is technically right, so to do it. Yeah, those
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: three guys weren't there again, pads pads, pads on a Wednesday.
- 1:20:20Speaker 4: It's we'll see. I was encouraged by what I saw
- 1:20:24Speaker 4: from Riley Reef. That name is tough to say. Riley
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: Reef on Sunday as bad as everything else was. I
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: thought that he played decently well and the line improved
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: once he was in the game, and so I do
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: wonder you know, sometimes when with offensive line, it's you
- 1:20:42Speaker 4: make one change and then all of a sudden, the
- 1:20:45Speaker 4: thing starts to come together. You know, it's just one
- 1:20:47Speaker 4: spot becomes solidified and then that makes it easier for
- 1:20:50Speaker 4: the other four guys on the line. It brings me
- 1:20:53Speaker 4: back to twenty one when they put ted Carris in
- 1:20:56Speaker 4: the starting lineup and then things like kind of sailed
- 1:20:58Speaker 4: down from there. So you never know, you never know
- 1:21:01Speaker 4: what these things.
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: And the media a lot of media going to Vegas.
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: Are they talking about Vegas where they're staying.
- 1:21:07Speaker 4: And all a little bit a little bit. But today
- 1:21:09Speaker 4: was a pretty busy media contingent here, which I mean
- 1:21:13Speaker 4: we were talking about earlier. I don't know if this
- 1:21:15Speaker 4: was on the air off the air of just about
- 1:21:17Speaker 4: how much uh you know, interaction we are getting from
- 1:21:20Speaker 4: the emails and the callers and stuff despite the situation.
- 1:21:23Speaker 4: And uh, there was a packed house there today for Bill.
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: For Mac new faces people you didn't know or no, no.
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: But just you know, full full media contingent and you know,
- 1:21:34Speaker 4: the Bruins open tonight, Like I thought maybe maybe it'd
- 1:21:38Speaker 4: be lighter because you know, let's focus on something more positive,
- 1:21:42Speaker 4: like opening night for the Bruins. But people love the yeah,
- 1:21:45Speaker 4: the vultures, they love the negativity apparently.
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: So there's no grousing.
- 1:21:49Speaker 4: No, it's been nice out okay, And you know we
- 1:21:52Speaker 4: haven't really hit the cold practices yet. You're joking that
- 1:21:55Speaker 4: we could probably use the same picture that we like
- 1:21:58Speaker 4: used yesterday and nobody he would know the difference because
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: it's just kind of been the same.
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and you only got to see stretching, only.
- 1:22:05Speaker 4: Stretching, Okay, yep, very limited. Yesterday we saw a little
- 1:22:08Speaker 4: bit more, but there were less guys on the offensive
- 1:22:12Speaker 4: line out there yesterday than there were today. So I
- 1:22:15Speaker 4: don't know how much stock I would put into the
- 1:22:18Speaker 4: combinations that we saw in that practice.
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: It seemed like one's gonna be kind of fighting something
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: all year. Like it just seems like this is going
- 1:22:24Speaker 3: to be strange. Yeah, which is just so weird to me,
- 1:22:28Speaker 3: Like just the way that it happened and how he's
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: been out there and with strange strange, it's bizarre. Strange
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: got when he got hurt, and you remember the day
- 1:22:39Speaker 3: he got hurt.
- 1:22:40Speaker 7: How long he stayed out there and did some work and.
- 1:22:45Speaker 6: Whe like like he was imminently going back into practice.
- 1:22:49Speaker 6: That is strange, and I want to say it was
- 1:22:51Speaker 6: like day two's strange.
- 1:22:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean cold, strange being injured or compromised. I
- 1:22:59Speaker 4: guess like he can't play like that on when.
- 1:23:05Speaker 11: Of a win?
- 1:23:05Speaker 4: Who is still better than anything else? Like that?
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: So did they try to simulate the crowd in Las
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: Vegas by pumping and cheering and joint.
- 1:23:17Speaker 4: Just music? Just music, just music when we were out there?
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: Was it Viva Las Vegas? Was it like Elvis?
- 1:23:22Speaker 13: No?
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: No, Tony Bennett, no, no, no, you too? The sphere.
- 1:23:27Speaker 4: It's funny because a lot of the practice music is
- 1:23:31Speaker 4: like my generation rap music, like it's not the new stuff.
- 1:23:36Speaker 4: Like so you know that, you know, like Kean White
- 1:23:39Speaker 4: doesn't have the ox cord right, Like it's not it's
- 1:23:41Speaker 4: not the new it's not it's not new stuff. It's
- 1:23:45Speaker 4: like mid twenty twenty ten rap and like so it's
- 1:23:50Speaker 4: just funny, like you know that. It's like Juwan Betty.
- 1:23:53Speaker 3: Where you get country and you're like, David Andrews must
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: have the ox today.
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: Yeah, the ox uh colon Denver Right, I'll be in
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: Vegas this weekend, and I need hope. If I have
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: to witness three and a half hours of the Patriots
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: getting wrecked by the Raiders, and I might just gamble
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: away my savings, Bunny Ranch, my way out of a relationship,
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: and imbibe myself into a rehab facility. I'll have to
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: reinvent what fear and loathing in Las Vegas means? Please?
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: What are raiders weaknesses? How can the Patriots exploit them?
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: Why do they suck on offense despite having great weapons?
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: Is their defense legit or a bunch of lame lames?
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: In Mad Max?
- 1:24:31Speaker 4: So their defense? If you want to be positive about
- 1:24:34Speaker 4: the Patriots, I'll set the table for you a little bit.
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: This is the worst defense by far that they've played
- 1:24:40Speaker 4: this year, and I don't think it's particularly close. I
- 1:24:43Speaker 4: would agree outside of Max Crosby, this defense is Splaine
- 1:24:47Speaker 4: really not great? Tyree Wilson, their first round pick has
- 1:24:51Speaker 4: been a bust so far. He's been terrible, and they
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: really don't have much talent outside of Max Crosby. A
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: guy like Spelaine is journeyman coming out of the woodwork
- 1:25:01Speaker 4: for them. They're twenty fourth and DVA on defense, they're
- 1:25:05Speaker 4: twenty eighth in pressure rate despite Max Crosby leading the
- 1:25:09Speaker 4: league in pressures, so he's he's literally holding their pressure
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: rate out of the basement right now. They don't get
- 1:25:15Speaker 4: to the quarterback. They don't blitz a lot because they
- 1:25:18Speaker 4: can't because they don't have the defensive backs to blitz
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: a lot. So they are as vanilla and as bad
- 1:25:24Speaker 4: on defense as any team. Like the statistics say that
- 1:25:26Speaker 4: the Dolphins and the Jets haven't been great on defense,
- 1:25:29Speaker 4: but we know that those are great defenses, you know,
- 1:25:31Speaker 4: based off of the talent and the eye test. The
- 1:25:35Speaker 4: Raiders defense is not good.
- 1:25:36Speaker 3: It just makes me wonder too with with Crosby being
- 1:25:39Speaker 3: so isolated that if it's really smart to replace Low
- 1:25:42Speaker 3: this week, just because they're probably gonna be like put
- 1:25:45Speaker 3: them over Low every snap, you know what I mean,
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: Like that's probably their key game.
- 1:25:48Speaker 6: The Patriots are gonna have to say, we're gonna devote
- 1:25:50Speaker 6: two to three guys to him every snap, especially on
- 1:25:53Speaker 6: the right side, you know, which.
- 1:25:56Speaker 4: Is where he lines up like ninety percent of the time.
- 1:25:58Speaker 7: And this is also.
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: The secondary for the Raiders. And I was listening to
- 1:26:03Speaker 6: Troy Aikman the other night talk about Marcus Peters, who
- 1:26:07Speaker 6: is a pretty solid corner. He has a pretty good career,
- 1:26:11Speaker 6: but it looks like he's sort of done. And they said,
- 1:26:15Speaker 6: you know, he gave up like an easy pitch and
- 1:26:17Speaker 6: catch out for like twelve yards early in the game,
- 1:26:19Speaker 6: and Aikman made the comment, this is pretty much what
- 1:26:21Speaker 6: you've seen when you watch the film of the Raiders.
- 1:26:24Speaker 6: He's given a lot of big cushions, a lot of
- 1:26:27Speaker 6: easy completions. Now, he made a huge play in the
- 1:26:30Speaker 6: second half of that game, sort of jumping route, getting
- 1:26:33Speaker 6: his hand on it, which led to one of the
- 1:26:34Speaker 6: Mickey Splaine picks. And it's so, but I just think
- 1:26:39Speaker 6: man to man.
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: I don't walked into my office all the way.
- 1:26:45Speaker 7: The legs that went on for days.
- 1:26:47Speaker 6: They don't play a lot of mando man well, they
- 1:26:50Speaker 6: don't play man well according to Troy Aikman.
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: So this is the krankman was onto something. So this
- 1:26:56Speaker 4: is a weakness on weakness matchup. The Patriots, I'm setting up,
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: are the worst offense in the league against man coverage,
- 1:27:03Speaker 4: and the Raiders are the worst man coverage defense in
- 1:27:06Speaker 4: the NFL. The Raiders are giving up over nine yards
- 1:27:09Speaker 4: per attempt in man coverage, they are getting absolutely shredded.
- 1:27:12Speaker 4: But the Patriots average under four when the defense is
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: play man. So whoever makes more plays the Raiders defensive
- 1:27:20Speaker 4: backs are the Patriots receivers is probably gonna end up
- 1:27:22Speaker 4: winning this game.
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: That's like the opposite of like when you have undefeated
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: teams and you do like the you know, the gotta give,
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: you know.
- 1:27:31Speaker 3: Team the dream tries to climb.
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: The team can score, something's gotta give.
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:27:38Speaker 6: One other thing that the Raiders the other night, they
- 1:27:41Speaker 6: were missing two stars in the secondary and probably had
- 1:27:45Speaker 6: their best game that they've had. And like I said,
- 1:27:49Speaker 6: they had three picks, so you kind of wonder, oh, well,
- 1:27:52Speaker 6: we were forced to bring this guy up off the
- 1:27:54Speaker 6: practice squad and start them if maybe those guys played
- 1:27:57Speaker 6: well and now maybe they've sort of inadvertently added some
- 1:28:00Speaker 6: depth to their secondary. I know Nate, Nate Hobbs, I
- 1:28:03Speaker 6: think sat out and another guy EPs, uh he played,
- 1:28:09Speaker 6: he play, He's number one, right, yeh.
- 1:28:11Speaker 7: See, that's why I was looking for my I knew
- 1:28:13Speaker 7: he was.
- 1:28:15Speaker 4: Trayvon Morrig. Their safety is he played is a solid starter. Yeah,
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: But and I like David Longert, their their other corner.
- 1:28:22Speaker 4: But he's more of like, if he's your third corner,
- 1:28:25Speaker 4: then you're like in decent shape. But anything above that
- 1:28:28Speaker 4: is is a lot. But they're I mean they're there.
- 1:28:31Speaker 4: Back seven is is patchwork right now. And and like
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: I said, their first round pick, who was supposed to
- 1:28:38Speaker 4: come in and be the bookend to the Crosby is
- 1:28:41Speaker 4: has been terrible.
- 1:28:42Speaker 11: So.
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: XO writes in X I think what we're seeing now,
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: he says, is evidence that it was Josh McDaniel's offense,
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: not Bills.
- 1:28:53Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean that's not I don't really understand what
- 1:28:56Speaker 6: that means. But can I just tell you that the
- 1:28:58Speaker 6: offense is actually run the Airhots offense. They've been running
- 1:29:01Speaker 6: the same system since Belichick got here.
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: Let's see Kobe.
- 1:29:06Speaker 6: They've tweaked it many many times, but that's where it
- 1:29:10Speaker 6: was born.
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: From Kobe and Vermont. Last year, Paul posed a question
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: to the fans if they were for Zappy or Mac.
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: I want to know. I want to know if the
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: fans are with Bill or against him. I'm personally out
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: on Bill as the Patriots head coach for next year.
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: What are the rest of the listeners thinking? He thinks
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: you should do a poll. We're not going to do
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: with that.
- 1:29:29Speaker 7: I'm not doing that now.
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: I think right now it's pretty obvious because I don't
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: read a tech of the emails that come in, and
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: I can tell you that, yeah, there's not a lot
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: of There's a few supporting Bill, but not a lot.
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: Let's see Brian, right. So, And I'm not sure how
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: true the article was, but I do remember seeing a
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: report about how Patriots coaches believe they could have won
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: with a lot of quarterbacks instead of Tom Brady. That
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: quote keeps coming to my mind seeing this organization becoming
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: more and more disastrous. Also, if Bill was okay letting
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: people go past their prime, why can't he hold himself
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: accountable and do the same. Wow?
- 1:30:06Speaker 6: So it was I just finally found it. It was
- 1:30:09Speaker 6: Jacorey and Bennett didn't play. Yeah, and uh and he
- 1:30:13Speaker 6: sat and Chris Smith also said who was one of
- 1:30:16Speaker 6: their top erzers. They had three different guys that play
- 1:30:19Speaker 6: a little bit, didn't play.
- 1:30:21Speaker 7: The other night.
- 1:30:21Speaker 6: They brought a guy up off the practice squad, Tyler Hall,
- 1:30:26Speaker 6: who showed up a little bit in the game. And
- 1:30:28Speaker 6: I thought, you know, despite Aikman sort of ripping Marcus Peters.
- 1:30:33Speaker 6: I thought he was kind of active.
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: Now yeh didn't really show up last night.
- 1:30:38Speaker 6: Meek Robertson is the one who made the big pick
- 1:30:40Speaker 6: at the end. So you know, maybe we'll see a
- 1:30:44Speaker 6: different secondary.
- 1:30:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's what you've seen all year, Christian
- 1:30:49Speaker 4: Watson coverage bust and catching run with the horse collar.
- 1:30:52Speaker 7: I wanted to ask you about that.
- 1:30:54Speaker 4: They were pretty well connected on the back end, Like
- 1:30:57Speaker 4: I didn't really see a lot of like coverage busts
- 1:31:00Speaker 4: like things like that, but in general there was a
- 1:31:03Speaker 4: lot of space in zone coverage that Jordan Love just
- 1:31:07Speaker 4: didn't really he didn't throw the ball well.
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: So well, I mean, it's it's really setting up to
- 1:31:11Speaker 3: be an interesting one with how badly the Patriots offense
- 1:31:13Speaker 3: need to find something and here's kind of an opportunity
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: for you. And we know what's waiting with the Bills
- 1:31:18Speaker 3: and the Dolphins on the other side of this one.
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: But it's really like the pressure rate, like in terms
- 1:31:23Speaker 4: of like the defenses they you know, the first month
- 1:31:26Speaker 4: of the season, every team that they played was top
- 1:31:29Speaker 4: eight and pressure rate. Cowboys were number one, the Jets
- 1:31:32Speaker 4: I think are three, Eagles are like six, and the
- 1:31:35Speaker 4: Miami Dolphins are eight. Like, so you're talking about facing
- 1:31:39Speaker 4: probably some of the best defensive fronts in the NFL
- 1:31:43Speaker 4: right out of the gate.
- 1:31:43Speaker 6: So did you see that play with Watson that that
- 1:31:45Speaker 6: Evan just talked about the other night? Did you guys
- 1:31:47Speaker 6: watch any of the game. So Peters ended up taking
- 1:31:50Speaker 6: him down with the horse caller, right, probably prevented a touchdown.
- 1:31:53Speaker 6: And now you know Florio was on his you know,
- 1:31:57Speaker 6: white horse and having to change the rule. That to
- 1:32:00Speaker 6: change the rule and that that should be a touchdown.
- 1:32:03Speaker 6: Like obviously you could tell by the tone of my
- 1:32:05Speaker 6: voice how ridiculous I think that is. But you guys
- 1:32:09Speaker 6: can convince me, the three of you, if you think
- 1:32:10Speaker 6: I'm wrong and it should be no.
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: No, that's like the hockey rule, Like you get to
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: have the penalty shot if it was a clear you know,
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: laying to the goal. But no way, no way.
- 1:32:21Speaker 4: It's like in basketball they have take hockey rap or
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: clear paths, clear path foul. Yes that meant But my.
- 1:32:29Speaker 6: Point is this, Okay, so I have no doubt it
- 1:32:33Speaker 6: was it was a horse caller and that prevented a touchdown. Like,
- 1:32:37Speaker 6: what's the difference between a face mask or a pass
- 1:32:40Speaker 6: in appearance, and.
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: If you got a sports caller, he probably had an
- 1:32:43Speaker 3: opportunity to get him and else another way.
- 1:32:45Speaker 6: You know what I mean a penalty, it's not a touchdown.
- 1:32:49Speaker 4: People are saying that a touchdown.
- 1:32:51Speaker 6: Mike Florio says that plays down. You know, they should
- 1:32:54Speaker 6: revisit that and that should be awarded a touchdown and
- 1:32:57Speaker 6: it might have impacted the game. Well that's why you
- 1:33:00Speaker 6: do it, yeah, because you don't just give him a
- 1:33:02Speaker 6: free touchdown. That's why pass interference. You're taught if you
- 1:33:06Speaker 6: get beat, just tackle the guy.
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: And that's why I think in the pros they should
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: keep it as a spot fight. It's a fifty yard penalty,
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: but it's not a touchdown, not like in college right now.
- 1:33:15Speaker 6: Like I just I really don't agree with that that
- 1:33:19Speaker 6: line of thought, but I mean neither I almost never
- 1:33:22Speaker 6: agree with that.
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: I mean, listen, you know, like you guys breaking away
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: from you, there's nothing between him in the in the
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: end zone. You dive, you're reaching out for anything. You know,
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: you don't dive saying I'm going to horse.
- 1:33:35Speaker 4: Call it.
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: You're reaching for anything, and you hit the horse. You're
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: not gonna let go. You got to bring him down,
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: but there shouldn't be a touchdown.
- 1:33:41Speaker 6: But the defensive players should be taught like by any means,
- 1:33:45Speaker 6: like you're not trying, you're not trying to hurt somebody.
- 1:33:47Speaker 6: But if I'm reaching out and it's a horse caller,
- 1:33:49Speaker 6: or if I get his face mask and that prevents
- 1:33:51Speaker 6: a touchdown, I don't want to do that, but that's
- 1:33:53Speaker 6: what I have to do to stop the touchdown.
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: It's like in like in soccer, like if your goalie
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: is out of the goal and you have to dive
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: and hand the ball just to keep the do whatever
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: you have to do. You know, it'd be.
- 1:34:03Speaker 3: Funny if they did like a version of the penalty
- 1:34:05Speaker 3: shot though, where they like give the guy the ball
- 1:34:07Speaker 3: at like the thirty and then and and you get
- 1:34:09Speaker 3: one defender to try to prevent him from getting into
- 1:34:11Speaker 3: the end zone. It's like a football penalty. They had
- 1:34:13Speaker 3: like that better than just that's like that drill that's
- 1:34:16Speaker 3: going to be a touchdown.
- 1:34:19Speaker 4: Especially when it's Christian Watson.
- 1:34:21Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like that drill that they do. You know,
- 1:34:22Speaker 3: they always are doing that angling drill.
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: Yeah, they have had a cross like like in club lacrosse,
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: like instead of a penalty they have. They call it up.
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: What's the movie, uh mel Gibson, he's the Scottish. They
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: call it a brave heart and it's one guy against
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: one guy.
- 1:34:40Speaker 4: That happens.
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: Yeah, in lacrosse they do like club club tournaments, they'll
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: do it.
- 1:34:44Speaker 4: Oh really, yeah we never did that.
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: Yeah, it's called brave Heart.
- 1:34:47Speaker 4: I don't know if we did that in practice, but
- 1:34:49Speaker 4: not like in an actual game. Oh yeah, so we
- 1:34:52Speaker 4: brought it to games now.
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not like m i A.
- 1:34:55Speaker 3: You'd never see it. It's not another one of my
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: twenty years old This is all like club tournaments.
- 1:35:00Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, those were the days the club tournaments.
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: Ryan writes in I wanted to ask about your thoughts
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: on the current team culture. It feels like we have
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: reached a point where guys are not only doing their job,
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: not only not doing their job, but it feels like
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: they aren't upset when other guys aren't doing their job.
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: I think in order for us to get back to winning,
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: there has to be a certain amount of accountability among
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: the players, and we talked about this over the years,
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: like they're losing the leaders.
- 1:35:27Speaker 4: I agree with the leadership. I think that just sensing
- 1:35:31Speaker 4: like some of the things that Max said this morning,
- 1:35:33Speaker 4: I think also echoed that that they're like, who's the
- 1:35:36Speaker 4: one that's like pulling the rope the hardest?
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: You know. Bryant says something that made me think. He said,
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: you know, you know, David Andrews is no doubt when
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: the offensive line, he's the guy that you know, but
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: he specified it. He specified it to the offensive line.
- 1:35:53Speaker 3: Yeah, keep going with the other name that he used,
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: which made me, Yeah, Hunter Henry Trent Brown, who's and
- 1:36:00Speaker 3: a great left tackle for us, well.
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: He has been kind of threw him in there, but
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: like that's just the offensive line, you know what I mean,
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: whether it's Trent Brown or well.
- 1:36:09Speaker 3: He said Hunter Henry too, Hunter Henry came up as Yeah.
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: Then he started rattling off people. But you know, because
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: I think he knew what he was what people would
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: say about it. But I think there is a devoid
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: of people that have the cachet.
- 1:36:22Speaker 4: Right to be that voice.
- 1:36:24Speaker 3: And I think that's why it's just kind of for me,
- 1:36:25Speaker 3: goes back to they need players to start stepping up
- 1:36:28Speaker 3: and making plays so that they have some juice, you know,
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: and it's it's and that's what there isn't right now,
- 1:36:34Speaker 3: there isn't and there isn't a Willie McGinnis type, you know,
- 1:36:36Speaker 3: figure who's going to be the enforcer of it.
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: And and as much as we love Slater, like you,
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: doesn't even practice with the team. He's off doing his
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: own thing, you know, like like Okay, we love you,
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: you're a great guy and all that stuff, but like,
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: you know.
- 1:36:51Speaker 3: How much impact are you really going to have on
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: the game.
- 1:36:53Speaker 4: And it hurts even more when now that Judon's not
- 1:36:57Speaker 4: out there, because I think Judon was one of those
- 1:37:00Speaker 4: like a William McGinnis type, but now he's not playing,
- 1:37:02Speaker 4: so like you can't like rely on that. I think
- 1:37:05Speaker 4: Jawan Bentley is another one of those guys that will
- 1:37:07Speaker 4: do that. But Jowan Bentley is not doesn't hold the
- 1:37:10Speaker 4: same cachet as a William McGuinness or a Mike Rabel
- 1:37:13Speaker 4: or a Teddy Bruski maybe did back in the day,
- 1:37:16Speaker 4: or a high Tower, you know, like those. They lack
- 1:37:19Speaker 4: that sort of thing. And I think that that's one
- 1:37:22Speaker 4: thing that I've noticed is just a body language, like
- 1:37:26Speaker 4: just during games, you know, Max saying this morning that
- 1:37:29Speaker 4: they're not having fun playing and like regardless of the score,
- 1:37:33Speaker 4: like they're just not coming out of the gate like
- 1:37:35Speaker 4: in like good moods, and it's like, why, you know,
- 1:37:39Speaker 4: why are you not? There's no energy and there's no
- 1:37:43Speaker 4: there's no belief, there's no buy in.
- 1:37:45Speaker 3: It's just you just one or two. And I mean,
- 1:37:46Speaker 3: I you know, I don't mean this to be a
- 1:37:48Speaker 3: shot at David anders I mean, but it's just those
- 1:37:50Speaker 3: guys that are leading are carrying everything in their leadership
- 1:37:53Speaker 3: from what happened five years ago, you know, like and
- 1:37:56Speaker 3: so now it's just does it rings true anymore when
- 1:37:59Speaker 3: these guys are saying, yep, it's the same thing.
- 1:38:00Speaker 7: I'm here for David good points.
- 1:38:03Speaker 6: I do have concerns about that the locker room and
- 1:38:06Speaker 6: everybody's pulling in the right direction. But I like a
- 1:38:10Speaker 6: lot of the points you guys made about even because
- 1:38:13Speaker 6: I do think David Andrews is tremendous. You wonder, like
- 1:38:18Speaker 6: some of the younger guys, like, listen to this guy
- 1:38:20Speaker 6: talking about glory days again.
- 1:38:21Speaker 7: You know, yeah, I get it.
- 1:38:22Speaker 6: You guys won a lot of games before we got here.
- 1:38:25Speaker 6: We stank You're great. Yeah, you know, I like, you
- 1:38:27Speaker 6: wonder if that's sort of the the way it's it's taken.
- 1:38:30Speaker 4: But I also feel like that away from the head coach.
- 1:38:32Speaker 4: Not sorry to cut you off, like like I feel
- 1:38:34Speaker 4: like that, like the head coach is resting on his
- 1:38:36Speaker 4: lor not like literally but just figuratively resting on his laurels.
- 1:38:40Speaker 3: Go to the owner's meeting. What if hands have to
- 1:38:42Speaker 3: be excited about the last twenty twenty years. But I mean,
- 1:38:45Speaker 3: but Paul, you've brought up this a couple of times,
- 1:38:47Speaker 3: and you know, I think for me, you're kind of
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: underselling it a little bit because you know, you're acting
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: like that the drama isn't really the forefront. But I
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: I to me, like, the drama is drama, you know
- 1:38:56Speaker 3: me the forefront, right, But I think it. I think
- 1:38:58Speaker 3: it's the forefront for me because if they're not all
- 1:39:02Speaker 3: pulling in the same direction anymore, then it doesn't matter
- 1:39:04Speaker 3: about trying to fix the offensive line or trying to
- 1:39:06Speaker 3: get you know, Remandre going, or any of like the
- 1:39:09Speaker 3: specific football teams that they're not buying in right now.
- 1:39:12Speaker 3: They're never gonna get those things right, or even if
- 1:39:13Speaker 3: they do, something else is gonna pop up because they're
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: they're not really invested in.
- 1:39:18Speaker 6: I'm with you, and I do think that That is
- 1:39:21Speaker 6: the biggest thing that I'm concerned about, because I felt like,
- 1:39:24Speaker 6: like Freddy, like after the Dallas game, You're like, Okay,
- 1:39:27Speaker 6: I don't know if they're gonna win next week, because
- 1:39:29Speaker 6: I don't know if they're good enough to just flip
- 1:39:31Speaker 6: the switch and win. But I would have bet anything
- 1:39:34Speaker 6: that the effort and sort of the men or that
- 1:39:39Speaker 6: the game unfolded would be a thousand times different than that.
- 1:39:42Speaker 6: And I'm not telling you they laid down, but I'm
- 1:39:44Speaker 6: telling you there wasn't a lot of pushback after the picks.
- 1:39:46Speaker 3: Once it seemed like they knew which way it was going,
- 1:39:48Speaker 3: it was kind of felt inevitable, and so.
- 1:39:51Speaker 6: I'm more concerned with that part of it than anything else.
- 1:39:54Speaker 6: I just the reason I downplay it when I talk
- 1:39:56Speaker 6: about is because I know a lot of people listen
- 1:39:58Speaker 6: to these guys. They always want to stir it up.
- 1:39:59Speaker 6: And it's because he goes on felgrin Maz and that's
- 1:40:02Speaker 6: what felgrind Maz do constantly. They're not talking about their
- 1:40:06Speaker 6: their failures at X's and O's, They're talking about the
- 1:40:09Speaker 6: team is broken.
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: Yeah, and that and that might have been the final proof,
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: the final nail on the coffin that the team needs
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: an enema. Yeah, I mean because, like Paul said, most
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: teams when they get schillac like that, they come back
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: the next week and at least they fight. You know,
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: we don't want that to happen again. And it was
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: the exact it got worse.
- 1:40:34Speaker 6: I haven't seen that ever, you know, like and I
- 1:40:38Speaker 6: get this talent is different, Okay, so I know it's
- 1:40:40Speaker 6: not a perfect analogy. Cincinnati went through the first four games.
- 1:40:45Speaker 6: They were every business and ept as you were offensively,
- 1:40:48Speaker 6: not an exaggeration, with far better talent, but they could
- 1:40:52Speaker 6: not protect an injured quarterback who was playing poorly and
- 1:40:57Speaker 6: and to the point where it culminated after a bad
- 1:41:00Speaker 6: loss to a bad Tennessee team with they're all pro
- 1:41:05Speaker 6: wide receivers saying I'm always f and open the next
- 1:41:09Speaker 6: game true, fifteen for one to ninety six and three touchdowns.
- 1:41:13Speaker 4: He is always no, no.
- 1:41:14Speaker 7: But my point is they didn't get all mad.
- 1:41:20Speaker 6: The guy was obviously frustrated because he wasn't getting the
- 1:41:22Speaker 6: ball enough, and he thinks he could help Joe Burrow,
- 1:41:25Speaker 6: who has accomplished far more than Mac Jones has in
- 1:41:28Speaker 6: the league, didn't say.
- 1:41:29Speaker 3: This guy calling me out.
- 1:41:32Speaker 6: No, he said, you know what, You're right, You're right,
- 1:41:36Speaker 6: I'm gonna get And all of a sudden, Burrow's thrown
- 1:41:38Speaker 6: for three p fifty like he normally does. And maybe
- 1:41:40Speaker 6: the CAF is not as big of a problem this
- 1:41:42Speaker 6: week as it was last week. I'm gonna guess it is.
- 1:41:45Speaker 6: I'm gonna guess it hasn't gotten much better since he's
- 1:41:47Speaker 6: playing on it five weeks in a row. But all
- 1:41:50Speaker 6: of a sudden, their offense puts thirty four on the
- 1:41:52Speaker 6: board and it looks a little bit more like Cincinnati
- 1:41:54Speaker 6: because that's how you respond. And again, I know it's
- 1:41:57Speaker 6: not perfect because Jamar Chase is not in the.
- 1:42:00Speaker 7: Patriots locker room.
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: I mean, good or bad. It's group think. It's it's football,
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: and to when you have to have group think, and
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: when you have a situation like the Patriots have right now,
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: it's group think, negative group think, you know.
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: And that's why I think this matchup, everything we're saying
- 1:42:15Speaker 3: is just a really interesting one because of all the
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: history between these two teams. You know the current history
- 1:42:20Speaker 3: last year what happened, but all the players and all
- 1:42:23Speaker 3: the you know, coaches, staff, and you know, just the opportunity.
- 1:42:25Speaker 3: I think that the Patriots could have to win this one.
- 1:42:27Speaker 3: Like it's you know, like I think going into Dallas
- 1:42:30Speaker 3: and you know, all right, if they're gonna losing Jerry's world,
- 1:42:33Speaker 3: it is what it is. But you know, like this
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: is a game that you know you should win most times,
- 1:42:36Speaker 3: and I'm just curious what they come out with, what
- 1:42:39Speaker 3: kind of fight do they show up?
- 1:42:40Speaker 7: Well, this is a game that they should win most times.
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: Let me rephrase that, not this team. But I would say,
- 1:42:47Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, like like most times, like
- 1:42:49Speaker 3: this is a team that a normal Patriots team probably,
- 1:42:51Speaker 3: like if this was even last year's team, I say,
- 1:42:53Speaker 3: I think they got a really good chance.
- 1:42:55Speaker 6: You know, I would say that this is a team
- 1:42:57Speaker 6: that has similar talent to yours. Yeah, but I wouldn't
- 1:43:01Speaker 6: look at it as a game that you should win.
- 1:43:02Speaker 6: And now that's perfect.
- 1:43:03Speaker 3: So where does the difference made by what team wants
- 1:43:06Speaker 3: it more?
- 1:43:07Speaker 6: And I would say, like we're different than most of
- 1:43:10Speaker 6: our colleagues who have penciled in last week. This week,
- 1:43:14Speaker 6: you know, Washington commands as all games the Patriots quote
- 1:43:18Speaker 6: should win, because somehow they convinced themselves that they have
- 1:43:21Speaker 6: far more talent on their roster than those teams do.
- 1:43:24Speaker 6: And I, you know, like I watched the game Monday night.
- 1:43:26Speaker 6: I put together the matchups just like Evan's watching the
- 1:43:29Speaker 6: film for for his previewing game plan. I don't see
- 1:43:33Speaker 6: an edge and talent across the board. I see some edges,
- 1:43:37Speaker 6: like I think the Patriots have a better defense than
- 1:43:39Speaker 6: the Raiders, for sure, But I don't think the Patriots
- 1:43:42Speaker 6: have a Max Crosby.
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: It's like, based on them winning six super Bowls, they
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: should win.
- 1:43:45Speaker 6: This game, right, doesn't anymore because they only have three
- 1:43:50Speaker 6: It's just as silly to say it that way.
- 1:43:52Speaker 4: I ended up being like, very rarely do I do this,
- 1:43:56Speaker 4: But I actually watched the offense film for the Patriots
- 1:44:00Speaker 4: another time through, and the time that this time I
- 1:44:04Speaker 4: didn't wasn't watching for the normal reasons that I watch.
- 1:44:07Speaker 4: I just wanted to watch like the body language and
- 1:44:10Speaker 4: like the topic, and like the effort, and like the
- 1:44:14Speaker 4: buy in and and really the effort. And I'll say
- 1:44:19Speaker 4: this for them, if they are aren't quitting, they're doing
- 1:44:23Speaker 4: a really good job of like not like they're quiet quitting, right,
- 1:44:27Speaker 4: Like they're not like obviously just not showing up like
- 1:44:31Speaker 4: there's effort on the film, but you can tell that
- 1:44:34Speaker 4: there's just like a little bit of something missing.
- 1:44:37Speaker 3: Right, And I think it connects to what the coaches
- 1:44:40Speaker 3: were saying yesterday where it's like it's one it's always
- 1:44:42Speaker 3: like one thing or the other. And that's you know
- 1:44:44Speaker 3: that to me is it's not a team that's given up,
- 1:44:46Speaker 3: but it's a team that's not completely engaged, and you know,
- 1:44:48Speaker 3: and on the edge of every decision and everything. You know,
- 1:44:51Speaker 3: those teams that get rolling down near the end of
- 1:44:53Speaker 3: the season where they're just making plays left and right,
- 1:44:56Speaker 3: everybody's on the same page.
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: Yeah, you know this tis hiccup becomes the flu Yeah.
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, and then they're and they're fragile emotionally
- 1:45:06Speaker 3: right now. And that's why this game, how it starts off,
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: I mean every play out of the gate for like,
- 1:45:12Speaker 3: you know.
- 1:45:13Speaker 4: That's just like I feel like there's a lot out
- 1:45:15Speaker 4: there about like Trent Brown in particular, that like he
- 1:45:18Speaker 4: just like quit on that game the other day, and
- 1:45:20Speaker 4: he had some bad reps like don't get me wrong,
- 1:45:23Speaker 4: but I didn't see him flat out quitting. There's some
- 1:45:26Speaker 4: bad body language, especially after the Remondre Stevenson mac Jones
- 1:45:30Speaker 4: fumble situation. Certainly some some bad body to kill somebody, Yeah,
- 1:45:36Speaker 4: But but I didn't see him him quitting. I just
- 1:45:41Speaker 4: I don't know if it's it's it's quiet quitting, Like
- 1:45:44Speaker 4: they're still doing their jobs and going through the motions,
- 1:45:47Speaker 4: but they're not really going.
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: That next invested Rick and Dallas. Based on what I
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: believe Evan said yesterday, it would be safe to assume
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: that Bears used the number one pick on Caleb Williams.
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: Is there any value on sending a mid round pick
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: for Fields and using their own top five to ten
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: pick on a wide receiver or tackle? Is Fields too broken?
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: Or could Bill O'Brien give him the coaching he never
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: received in Chicago? Is Drake may a better prospect than
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: Fields is?
- 1:46:15Speaker 2: Now?
- 1:46:16Speaker 6: Probably yes? But I love this is the kind of
- 1:46:19Speaker 6: stuff I love. I love that that that line of thought. Now,
- 1:46:22Speaker 6: I don't know where Chicago is, and I don't think
- 1:46:26Speaker 6: even putting words, And I think Evan just corrected me
- 1:46:29Speaker 6: in reminding me that Carolina had traded that pick to
- 1:46:31Speaker 6: the Chicago I don't think you definitively said one way.
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: Or the other.
- 1:46:35Speaker 4: Did you about them taking a quarterback?
- 1:46:37Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: No.
- 1:46:39Speaker 6: Now, yeah, I would probably say based right now, it
- 1:46:42Speaker 6: probably will probably because it's probably going to be a
- 1:46:44Speaker 6: new coach and he's probably going to come in and
- 1:46:46Speaker 6: want to have his own quarterback. But would you give
- 1:46:49Speaker 6: a mid round pick, Like if you could give a
- 1:46:51Speaker 6: fifth round pick for Justin Fields, I would think about that.
- 1:46:56Speaker 4: I mean, it depends on what your own plans are.
- 1:46:58Speaker 4: I suppose, right, it also depends on what O'Brien thinks too. Well,
- 1:47:03Speaker 4: then you just have like two broken quarterbacks.
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: No, No, I would kind of like it's kind of
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: like what the other caller was saying, like, if you
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: can't get the top quarterbacks, start getting the pieces. So
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: if you're only giving up a mid round pick for Fields,
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: maybe we can rehabilitate him and meantime we're building up,
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: we're building up the pieces, and if it doesn't work out,
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: then we go for the quarterback.
- 1:47:25Speaker 4: I just don't know why, Like, you can make the
- 1:47:27Speaker 4: same case for Mac, can't you, Like then you can in.
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: This case the other guy did trist but in this
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: case was in this case your scouting says that Fields
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: is better Mac.
- 1:47:37Speaker 4: I don't know if other than like just like physical
- 1:47:40Speaker 4: like running ability. I don't know if how you really
- 1:47:44Speaker 4: get there, especially if Bill O'Brien still the offensive coordinator,
- 1:47:48Speaker 4: and this is sort of the type of offense that
- 1:47:49Speaker 4: you want to run.
- 1:47:50Speaker 6: And before we get calls, Okay, we all saw the
- 1:47:53Speaker 6: last two weeks where Fields was excellent and mac Jones
- 1:47:57Speaker 6: was as bad as you could be. We're talking about
- 1:47:59Speaker 6: the tired of the body.
- 1:48:01Speaker 3: And I would just say, until you know you got
- 1:48:02Speaker 3: the guy, I'm I'm all for any avenue take a
- 1:48:05Speaker 3: shot on a quarterback, especially one with talent like Trey Lance,
- 1:48:07Speaker 3: any of those guys like you want to bring him in,
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: not spend a lot of money or you know, not
- 1:48:11Speaker 3: spend the draft capital. I'm all for any quarterback you
- 1:48:15Speaker 3: can bring in.
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: Gary in East Hanover, New Jersey. Looking ahead to the future,
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: what is your opinion of pursuing Steve Starkesian as the
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: next head coach. He's widely viewed as the best offensive
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: mine in college football today. He has head coaching experience
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: as well as great success as an offensive coordinator. He
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: was an O c under both Pete Carroll and Nick Saban.
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: I feel like I feel an offensive minded coach is
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: the way to go in the modern day. NFL.
- 1:48:41Speaker 7: Yeah, where's the NFL resume?
- 1:48:42Speaker 3: Yeah? No, NFL. And he's also a little bit of
- 1:48:45Speaker 3: a hothead too.
- 1:48:45Speaker 7: There's not no, it's not good.
- 1:48:47Speaker 4: Oh yeah, and Atlanta wasn't great.
- 1:48:49Speaker 3: There's a great video of him like somebody like security
- 1:48:51Speaker 3: guard like they're waiting to come out for the game,
- 1:48:53Speaker 3: and a security guards like, so hold on a second, sir,
- 1:48:55Speaker 3: Oh really? And he lost his mind on the guy
- 1:48:57Speaker 3: Ben Johnson.
- 1:49:00Speaker 4: I love Steve. I think is a great coach. Why
- 1:49:03Speaker 4: is he leaving Texas? Yeah, come here and fix this mess.
- 1:49:07Speaker 7: And take a pay Archie man.
- 1:49:10Speaker 3: Arch arch Sorry.
- 1:49:12Speaker 6: I'm looking forward to seeing him play, but it's probably
- 1:49:14Speaker 6: not gonna be the Quinn seventy seventh year senior.
- 1:49:19Speaker 7: He's been around for a while.
- 1:49:20Speaker 4: Quin Yours is coming out. He's he's an interesting prospect.
- 1:49:23Speaker 3: Texas does quarter quarterback play six years? The next one
- 1:49:26Speaker 3: plays six years? Like that's just how old McCoy.
- 1:49:29Speaker 4: Oh he's but yours is like their best quarterback in
- 1:49:32Speaker 4: like a little bit.
- 1:49:33Speaker 7: This is a real court.
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:49:34Speaker 7: Evan's right, He's he can throw.
- 1:49:37Speaker 6: He's not just a good college player like Sam Ellinger
- 1:49:39Speaker 6: was a really good college quarterback.
- 1:49:41Speaker 4: Yeah, like Colt McCoy or.
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: Something, Scott and Washington. I love listening to you guys,
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: but the Patriots need to show excuse me, more toughness,
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: and we as fans need to show more toughness. What
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: happened to the fight we had during the Packers practices
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: and games?
- 1:49:57Speaker 4: What what fight do we have then?
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: Oh?
- 1:50:00Speaker 3: The Packers they had fights?
- 1:50:02Speaker 4: Oh oh like physical fight. Yeah, you lose seventy two
- 1:50:05Speaker 4: to three two games.
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: Let's see Ron and Cambridge. Yesterday, when duce said it
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: will be really interesting to see where this team goes
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: from here after the blowout walls of the Saints, my
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: eyes almost rolled out of my head. It took me
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: back to twenty twenty, when after Brady left he says
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: something similar like, it'll be interesting to see where the
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: greatest head coach of all time takes the team now
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: that Brady isn't here and they aren't butting heads. Ducee,
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: this team, this team's entire existence post Brady has been
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: the furthest thing from interesting. Bill. Really, Bill and the
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: Patriots didn't realize how good they had it with Brady,
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: and I'm guessing you fall into that category as well.
- 1:50:43Speaker 3: Wow, Well, I disagree with the interesting because I think
- 1:50:46Speaker 3: it's really actually been really interesting.
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: I don't know what I'm waiting for this seth wickershams.
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: You know that's coming soon, right.
- 1:50:52Speaker 4: But like it also just you know, like to that
- 1:50:56Speaker 4: it didn't have to be this bad either, right, like
- 1:50:58Speaker 4: just because it was it was never gonna be as
- 1:51:00Speaker 4: good as it was with Brady. We all knew that,
- 1:51:02Speaker 4: but it didn't also didn't need.
- 1:51:03Speaker 3: To be this I have to be this bad, you're
- 1:51:05Speaker 3: at the bottom.
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:51:07Speaker 6: The king of negativity is Mike Felger, right, Yeah, he's
- 1:51:10Speaker 6: still stunned right that this happened. He was convinced that
- 1:51:13Speaker 6: the ship was just gonna continue to go merrily along,
- 1:51:16Speaker 6: right U.
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: Chad says, what you people are describing as swagger, This
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: team has no swagger.
- 1:51:22Speaker 4: What do you mean?
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: The lack of swagger stems from a lack of confidence.
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: The team knows they're missing important pieces and it shows.
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: That's why I think the coaches gave them those sweatshirts.
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: It was a message for the players, media and fans
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: to shut up, keep quiet, and stop asking for help.
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: No one is coming.
- 1:51:38Speaker 4: Oh yeah great, ID. But when we were talking about uh,
- 1:51:42Speaker 4: you know, I thought about this too, like DeAndre Hopkins,
- 1:51:45Speaker 4: and we were I was especially I don't speak for
- 1:51:48Speaker 4: you guys, but I was like pounding every single table
- 1:51:50Speaker 4: in this building that to give DeAndre Hopkins whatever the
- 1:51:53Speaker 4: heck he wanted. And a big reason why I wanted
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: to do it was because he brings some swagger to
- 1:51:58Speaker 4: the locker room. Like he brings is a playmaker to
- 1:52:00Speaker 4: the locker room. Who's got some cachet, who's got some poll,
- 1:52:04Speaker 4: who's in, who's got obviously talent and this team just
- 1:52:08Speaker 4: has no belief whatsoever, and the talent on the team,
- 1:52:11Speaker 4: especially offensively, because they have no players like that. And
- 1:52:15Speaker 4: last week he goes to Tennessee and has what a
- 1:52:17Speaker 4: buck sixty and like eight catches, right, And it's just
- 1:52:20Speaker 4: like that was that was the type of like just
- 1:52:24Speaker 4: juice that this team needed, Like they needed that influx
- 1:52:27Speaker 4: of just swagger, confidence, whatever you want to call it.
- 1:52:31Speaker 4: And by bocking on those moves, they just they don't
- 1:52:33Speaker 4: have any of it.
- 1:52:35Speaker 3: And now it's snowballing and every like the buzzword is stink, stank, stunk,
- 1:52:38Speaker 3: and they have no talent, and you know, I mean
- 1:52:40Speaker 3: that's and that's what they're hearing. I'm sure.
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: A little show critique from Ryan in Virginia says, Fred,
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: you hit the nail on the head asking Hardy or
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: talking to Hardy as to why emails are superior to
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: the phone calls. The coasts get to pick the best ones,
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: and you read them yourself in order to get straight
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: to the point. In contrast, way too many phone calls amble,
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: waste time, seemed distracted or hard to hear, or generally
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: unprofound in their questioning. When you take most calls, the
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: World's Original podcast evolves into lunkhead afternoon drive radio. At
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: least Mark and the Bay was entertaining in an avant
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: garde sort of way. He was entertaining because Eric would
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: get so well, that's that's part of it. That's why
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: or Fred at least needs to be ruder, read funnier
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: to the callers. That will make it better. I don't
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: want to be rude to our call are best fans.
- 1:53:31Speaker 3: We'll make sure Hardy you don't have those.
- 1:53:33Speaker 6: You don't have Hardy's talent to read them all in
- 1:53:37Speaker 6: write in dinner theater style.
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: Right now.
- 1:53:41Speaker 3: He's got to read them this week. You got to
- 1:53:42Speaker 3: make sure he stays on those.
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: Uh, let's see Jared wants to talk about fullbacks. Jared
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: in La. What I found fascinating is there was a
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: time where Bill did things before everyone started trends in
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: the NFL and found success by innovating and pulling from
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: But lately it's felt like the pendulum has swung the
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: other way. I want to start a discussion about fullbacks.
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: The two most high powered offenses utilize fullbacks, Dolphins and
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: forty nine Ers. Why is it that we went away
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: from it when it's being used to great effect?
- 1:54:15Speaker 3: Now that's different though, it's different the way they use it.
- 1:54:18Speaker 3: I mean, it's just it's not the same. It's just
- 1:54:21Speaker 3: having a battering ram out there for your running game.
- 1:54:23Speaker 3: This is like, you know, Kyle Uschek is a legitimate
- 1:54:26Speaker 3: option for their for their you know, attack, And so
- 1:54:31Speaker 3: I think that, I mean, I just I'm not saying
- 1:54:33Speaker 3: it's right, but I just think they wanted to get
- 1:54:34Speaker 3: away from.
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: If Yakub Johnson was a better pass catcher, would he
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: still be here?
- 1:54:39Speaker 9: No?
- 1:54:40Speaker 3: No, I don't think they just no. I think when
- 1:54:42Speaker 3: Josh left, I think they were take your fullbacks with you.
- 1:54:45Speaker 3: We're dumb.
- 1:54:46Speaker 4: So alec Ingold is the Dolphins full back, and the
- 1:54:48Speaker 4: Dolphins actually lead the league in twenty one personnel usage
- 1:54:51Speaker 4: with the full back, and he's he's not Kyle's use
- 1:54:56Speaker 4: check like, he's more of it. I've been saying this,
- 1:54:59Speaker 4: like the fact that they moved on from the full back.
- 1:55:02Speaker 4: I still have not gotten a reason that I buy
- 1:55:05Speaker 4: like that. I think is sound reasoning. So you're telling
- 1:55:08Speaker 4: me you can't throw the ball because the full back, Well,
- 1:55:10Speaker 4: Miami and San Francisco figure out a way to do it,
- 1:55:12Speaker 4: and they have the most efficient offenses in the league.
- 1:55:14Speaker 4: So you're telling me that you can't throw it because
- 1:55:16Speaker 4: it's predictable or whatever. Well, I don't know. I asked
- 1:55:19Speaker 4: Mike McDaniel how he does it then, because they're lighting
- 1:55:22Speaker 4: up the world with the full back on the field,
- 1:55:23Speaker 4: And I.
- 1:55:23Speaker 6: Can just tell you with certainty that a member of
- 1:55:26Speaker 6: the organization, that's how he explained it to me. They
- 1:55:29Speaker 6: didn't like the predictability that went along with the fullback.
- 1:55:32Speaker 6: So what Evan's saying right now is not wrong. I mean,
- 1:55:35Speaker 6: they thought that that was the tell. Every time Johnson
- 1:55:37Speaker 6: was on the field, they knew they were running blah
- 1:55:39Speaker 6: blah blah blah blah. They needed to get rid of
- 1:55:41Speaker 6: him when Josh got left. That's the way it was
- 1:55:44Speaker 6: put to me.
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: But it's only it's only a tell if you make
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: it a tell like you could.
- 1:55:50Speaker 6: But I would also agree, and I agree with Evan
- 1:55:54Speaker 6: that alec Ingold isn't use check. He's not that athletic,
- 1:55:57Speaker 6: but he can get out and do something.
- 1:56:00Speaker 7: He can move.
- 1:56:00Speaker 6: I think Johnson's a bad ring ram I think maybe
- 1:56:03Speaker 6: it wasn't the fullback that was the problem, it was
- 1:56:06Speaker 6: the particular fullback.
- 1:56:07Speaker 3: Yeah, at plus two. I think the Patriots already had
- 1:56:10Speaker 3: a slow offense to begin with. So it's like when
- 1:56:11Speaker 3: you have guys on the outside like Debo and Ayuk
- 1:56:15Speaker 3: or Tyreek and Waddle, you know, like it's not going
- 1:56:18Speaker 3: to drag your whole team speed down just by putting
- 1:56:21Speaker 3: the fullback on the field. Whereas like the Patriots already
- 1:56:23Speaker 3: slow to begin with.
- 1:56:24Speaker 4: They were in twenty one, they were eleventh in rush EPA,
- 1:56:29Speaker 4: and they had a great play action passing attack with
- 1:56:32Speaker 4: the fullback and their rush efficiency even with Ramandre going
- 1:56:39Speaker 4: you know, over a thousand last year. Just in general,
- 1:56:41Speaker 4: they've run the ball less and less well since twenty one. Yeah,
- 1:56:46Speaker 4: and so that was with the personnel that they had
- 1:56:49Speaker 4: in twenty one, Like you know, it's not This is.
- 1:56:51Speaker 6: A point that I don't think gets enough attention because
- 1:56:53Speaker 6: Stevenson individually had a statistically strong year with a thousand
- 1:56:58Speaker 6: yards in average five yards to carry. The Patriots did
- 1:57:01Speaker 6: not run the ball well last year by all metrics,
- 1:57:05Speaker 6: Like Stevenson broke a ton of tackles and they did
- 1:57:10Speaker 6: not run the ball well.
- 1:57:11Speaker 4: And I can't just like help but think that the
- 1:57:14Speaker 4: single back stuff, Like in twenty one you were a
- 1:57:17Speaker 4: great running team. In nineteen and eighteen, you were also
- 1:57:20Speaker 4: a great running team twenty Obviously you had a running quarterback,
- 1:57:23Speaker 4: so it's like a little bit skewed twenty But in
- 1:57:26Speaker 4: those years you had the stationary quarterback with the full
- 1:57:28Speaker 4: back in the backfield, and you were an efficient rushing offense.
- 1:57:31Speaker 4: Then you went away from the full back, and now
- 1:57:33Speaker 4: you can't run the ball right.
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: All right, A lot to continue tomorrow, But coming up
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: next is the Playbook with John Rook. Evan will stick
