- 0:23At first, you'll be interested to know, 31 years ago, today, in 1993, Janet Reno became
- 0:31the first female US Attorney General serving under President Bill Clinton.
- 0:36A graduate of Cornell University and Harvard Law School, she was known for her integrity
- 0:41and dedication to justice.
- 0:45During her tenure, Reno launched innovative programs aimed at rehabilitating nonviolent
- 0:50drug offenders and advocated for the rights of criminal defendants.
- 0:56So now you know.
- 0:58And now you know what time it is.
- 1:00It's time for the weather report.

- 2:49Sunny mornings send you.
- 2:53In Mokal News, residents of Salisbury, Massachusetts constructed a $500,000 sand barrier to protect
- 3:01their beachfront homes from the sea.
- 3:04The barrier, comprising 14,000 tons of sand, was eroded completely within just three days
- 3:11of its completion.
- 3:14This rapid deterioration occurred following three storms, coinciding with the highest astronomical
- 3:20tides, leading to significant concern among the residents.
- 3:25Rick Wrigley, who managed the dune project, highlighted the timing and intensity of these
- 3:30storms as pivotal to the barrier's failure.
- 3:34Previous protective dunes were destroyed by a winter storm in December 2022, leading to
- 3:40increased vulnerability of beachfront properties to damage from strong wind and high tides.
- 3:52Now onto sports.
- 3:53It's been busy in the NFL.
- 3:57Kirk Cousins has signed a four-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons, valued at $180 million,
- 4:04marking the end of his tenure with the Minnesota Vikings.
- 4:09This move follows a series of significant roster adjustments by the Vikings, including
- 4:14releasing key players and trading Zedaria Smith.
- 4:18Cousins' future was uncertain, with the Vikings not extending his contract beyond 2023, allowing
- 4:26for a possible quarterback change.
- 4:30Despite a challenging season start and a severe Achilles injury ending his season, Cousins
- 4:35remained focused on his career and not solely on financial gains.
- 4:40Cousins' arrival in Atlanta is seen as a significant boost, potentially enhancing the
- 4:46Falcons' offense and playoff prospects in a weak NSC South.
- 4:52His experience and consistent performance with the Vikings, where he achieved over 4,000
- 4:57yards, passing in four seasons, added to the Falcons' optimism for the 2024 season.
- 5:06Last night in the NBA, the Celtics on the road in Portland beat the Trail Blazers 121-99.
- 5:14Tonight the Celtics remain on the road to take on the Utah Jazz at six mountain time.
- 5:20And last night in national hockey, the Bruins, at home taking on the Blues, lost 5-1.
- 5:27Miss passes and a controversial replay decision further compounded their difficulties, leading
- 5:32to a significant deficit.
- 5:36Despite a goal from David Pasternak, the Bruins failed to mount a comeback, with an early
- 5:41goalie pull proving ineffective.
- 5:46This loss reflects a pattern of inconsistency, particularly against teams outside of playoff
- 5:51contention affecting their standing.
- 5:55Potential lineup changes, including Andrew Peek's inclusion and Jeremy Swamen's frustration,
- 6:01signal a search for improvement.
- 6:03We'll see if they can bounce back in Montreal on Thursday when they take on the 24, 30, and
- 6:0910 Canadians.
- 6:13And top news, honey, maple syrup, and agave, touted as healthier sugar alternatives, are
- 6:21essentially liquid forms of sugar.
- 6:25Wesley McWhorter highlights they possess more calories than granulated sugar, urging moderation
- 6:30akin to all added sugars.
- 6:35While honey and maple syrup offer some nutrients, their health benefits are marginal unless
- 6:40consumed in large amounts.
- 6:43The real benefit of these sweeteners lies in their unique flavors, which can enhance
- 6:47recipes and possibly reduce the amount needed.
- 6:53Agave has a low glycemic index, but its high fructose content could pose liver health risks
- 6:59if over-consumed.
- 7:02In business news, heather, the cryptocurrency behind Ethereum, has been experiencing a significant
- 7:09rally, standing out even in the shadow of Bitcoin's recent surge to record highs.
- 7:17Launched in 2015, Ethereum has risen to become the second-largest digital currency by market
- 7:22value, now exceeding $460 billion.
- 7:28Its rise has been buoyed by the U.S. approval of a Bitcoin ETFs, attracting new investments
- 7:33into cryptocurrencies, including Ether.
- 7:37Ether's year-to-date increase of almost 72% surpasses Bitcoin's 61%, driven by anticipation
- 7:45of a potential U.S. Ethereum ETFs.
- 7:49The SEC is expected to decide on the ETFs application soon, with experts predicting a
- 7:55positive impact on Ethereum's market position.
- 8:00Ethereum is also poised for a major upgrade, called Dencon, enhancing its technology and
- 8:06potentially expanding its application ecosystem.
- 8:10With a broader range of use cases than Bitcoin, Ethereum supports developments like NFTs and
- 8:16a vibrant, smart contract ecosystem.
- 8:20Transitioning to a less energy-intensive, proof-of-stake model has bolstered Ethereum,
- 8:26attracting interest through staking rewards for holders.
- 8:31Maybe tomorrow, we'll do a little side note on what proof-of-stake is.
- 8:37In crypto movement, Bitcoin is still headed to the moon and now over $72,000.
- 8:44Ethereum is over $4,000.
- 8:47And Solana is $150.
