Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Labor finally giving the green light to the FTA. It'll
- 0:03Speaker 1: be signed next week. Exporters need to be aware, they say,
- 0:06Speaker 1: this is Damien O'Connor potential clawbacks if the government doesn't
- 0:10Speaker 1: promote enough investment into India, which is something we've been
- 0:12Speaker 1: talking about for a while. Kate Akland Beef and Lamb
- 0:14Speaker 1: joins us this morning. Kate get a welling, Ryan. This
- 0:18Speaker 1: is on the government, isn't it. It's not you. It's
- 0:20Speaker 1: not if business doesn't invest enough. It's if government doesn't
- 0:23Speaker 1: promote it enough.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Look, that's our understanding. So we can only take what
- 0:29Speaker 2: government is telling us that face value, and you're on
- 0:31Speaker 2: the surface of it. This is a really great thing
- 0:33Speaker 2: for New Zealand. So you know, as you say, it's
- 0:36Speaker 2: on the government.
- 0:38Speaker 1: What about the demand over there for beef and lamb?
- 0:41Speaker 1: What are we looking at? What are your numbers telling you?
- 0:45Speaker 2: Well, obviously it's not a beef market and the lamb
- 0:48Speaker 2: market is largely it largely doesn't exist at the moment
- 0:53Speaker 2: for New Zealand land because it's been unavailable or an
- 0:56Speaker 2: economic due to the thirty three percent towers there. But
- 0:59Speaker 2: we know that there is a huge amount of sheep
- 1:02Speaker 2: meat consumed in India. Know that it's it's the past.
- 1:05Speaker 2: China is the most populous country in the world and
- 1:08Speaker 2: it's it's projected to be the third largest economy within
- 1:11Speaker 2: five years. So well, the real growing middle class. We're
- 1:14Speaker 2: anticipating that demand will grow, but it's certainly not going
- 1:17Speaker 2: to be an overnight success story. This will be about
- 1:20Speaker 2: investing in the market and growing the market.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Of course, it's not a beef market. Who see, Hey,
- 1:28Speaker 1: it's early cly Kate, it's really Hey, in terms of
- 1:31Speaker 1: the investment, then how realistic do you think that number
- 1:35Speaker 1: is that they've put in there.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Look, we would have to spend a bit of time
- 1:40Speaker 2: understanding that. You know what we've been told of. It's
- 1:43Speaker 2: an aspirational target. We can only take that on face value.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Kate, that con chairperson Beef and Land New zeal And
