- We're seeing young men in particular just swallowed up by sports betting. This gambling addiction is not a failure of will. I'm definitely appealing to a male audience. And boom, no bad. You won't break even. You won't win because it's such a small amount of money which is in training you. And it's just on your phone. You don't have to go out to the casino or anything like that. The guy designed a man to pursue one woman to work for her, to sacrifice for her, to be faithful to her across years and to receive that reward for that labor to her in love and in the rearing of his children and in the bearing of his children. Pornography promises that reward without actual work. The gambling does the same thing to a man's economic lifestyle. Hey all, welcome to Cross Balletik. We are live in the studio with Pastor Toby Chalknox. I'm the Water Boy. It's good to be with you. And Pastor Toby was that counsel or press secretary today. We had press secretary. Why do you think that's everybody business? And because when the church meets, people need to know. Thank God they've done it like. God moves. We did make some decisions. Okay. Was that enterprise business? Yes. Oh, it's so what decision. Wait, what kind of music? What decisions did we make? The show just became a different show. We're going to talk about gambling. It's just the churches. It looked, but we were two or three together together in my name. There I am in the midst, right? So I'm just trying to figure out what kind of decisions the Lord has decided upon us here in America. Yeah. You know, back in the day, like the major newspapers in the United States, you sprint the minutes of the press secretary meetings. As they should, you know, a year before the declaration of independence was signed in the 1775, the Presbyterians met the hood, the Baptist, the Presbyterians, the Lutherans, America, one the Lutherans. And, and at their general assembly, they voted that America should become an independent nation. Huh. A year before the declaration of independence was signed. This is an indication to you of, at one point, the church was leading when the church spoke. It was authoritative. It was influential. This is what we think we should do. Are there any questions? Would they expect in that nation to be Christian? Oh, yeah. Oh, just wonder. I just had to swear. Not some autonomous. No. Okay. No, no, no. Christian. So their voting was for a Christian. Yeah. Yeah. That was in the minutes. What kind of minutes you got for us, Pat? I just want to know. Yeah. Oh, you're back. Now that's a nice, you brought it up. Oh, James, like, I'm really interested. I was trying to protect the meeting. I mean, you drove me in with the whole Presbyterian meeting before it is, it is. No, it's, it's a public meeting. Oh, it's a public meeting. Yeah, we, because we were doing business before the Lord and before, yeah, it's absolutely a public meeting. So I could just come in there with a camera and film. Can, can nox vote? We have, we have, we have, like at the SBC, I don't, I don't think I can vote. Sometimes there are, there are moments where we go into executive session. If there's like a pastoral, sensitive matter that we've got to take care of, but all the normal business of the church is taking place in public. And then we have visitors that come and sit in the gallery and watch. And so you could have reporters there. You could, you could be there. I never got an invitation. Well, it's just, it's just a public meeting. I'll consider this one now. Yeah. Really? I would love to go. Yeah. We, here's some of the highlights. Okay. Please. I'm getting my pen ready. We're starting a new Presbyterian Canada. New Canada. Well, look out. True to, oh, he's not there anymore. That's awesome. Yeah. The new, the new, the new, the new, he's dating Katy Perry here in America. Oh, man. He couldn't find her woman in here. I finally feel bad for him. You know, you, I don't know who to fill that for. That's what you're wearing him. I do. Okay. You can't, you know, ask me the name of the new Presbyterian. What's the name of that new Presbyterian? You're going to like this. Okay. You got to sting it ready for this one. Sounds really good. Some really high church music. You ready? You ready? The new Presbyteria in Canada, you know, it's got to be finalized by Council on the fall. Okay. So this is just proposing it to Council. But we think it's great. The Canadians think it's great. And it's called Boniface Presbyteria. Oh, you got to chop down that tree up there. Because, you know, yes. You know, Boniface, you chop down that tree. Yes. And he said, Thor has no authority here. That's right. Jesus Christ reigns. And there's a lot of maple thores up there. Sorry. That's great. I'm sorry. No, that's fantastic. So that's one big one. Okay. I'm really excited about number two. So about to take over Canada. That's good. We also, we, we, one of the things the CREC does is we, we pass, we have these things that we call memorials. And these are 100 words statements. They're short, pithy statements that state our position as a denomination on sort of culturally timely issues that our confessions don't address. And so we, for example, we have a, a memorial on six day creation. Of course, you know, Westminster does say six days, but you know, people have been, you know, exceptions, making exceptions. There's a lot of exceptions. So we like, you know, have to like spell it out for those special, you know, the short bus pastors who, who don't know that, blah, blah, blah. Yeah, exactly. Six days means six days means six days. Anyways, so we have something that we have something on Christian, Christian education. Again, you'd think they'd be clear enough. The Bible says bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. It is not clear. But you know, so we were like, that means Christian education. Yeah. Anyways, we, the Canadians actually, we have a number of Canadian churches in our Presbyteria here. And that's why we're starting this new Boniface Presbyteria in Canada. But they are facing doctor assisted suicide. Yeah. Yeah. And so one of the Canadian churches brought a proposed memorial, which Knox said, yes, let's send this to council, which has to go up to council. And there's a three year process of finalizing memorials because we don't want to do something in a hasty way. And so, and we'll see what council says. We've hit the Presbyterians to figure out also how to slow it down, speed it up and slow it down. You know, well, I mean, I want to be careful. I think it's good to be careful. But anyways, I'm really, really thankful for that. It's basically just calling out the heinousness of that form of murder that's now happening routinely in Canada. In Canada, I mean, other European nations as well. We had a visiting delegation, a church in England and they're facing similar things. But you know, I mean, there's, there's the Canadians were telling us stories about, and now how doctors are actually being pressured into this now. So Christian doctors are being pressured. And even if they will actually administer these lethal pills, they're being pressured to refer people to them. And it's just being called healthcare. It's like a healthcare. One brother told a story about a completely healthy young man, young marriage, wife, few kids. And in the course of a doctor's appointment, the doctor said, well, you know, one option would be to take your life. What happened to do no harm? Did you not have to swear by that anymore? Yeah. They apparently again, too many short buses. Wow. Even for the vote. You have the same thing happened to you when your wife was pregnant hospital. Yeah. Yeah. For that's a bad thing for for for for our unborn daughter, who's now 18 years old and about to graduate high school. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They, the doctors looked at a ultrasound and said, you should probably do a system to decide on baby. You should probably suicide this one. Yeah. So many words because you know, the the twin had already died. Her sister had died and he said probably whatever killed the, her sister is probably going to kill her. So you might as well do it for, you know, do it. Yeah. Yeah. So it's awful. And that was in America. That was in South Carolina. But anyway, so I'm really grateful for that. And we're probably going to be putting out a statement actually soon. So we've got the moral process going. But presiding ministers can actually speak on behalf of the press secretary between meetings. Yeah. And our press secretary said we want you to speak to this now in order to give some immediate air cover to the churches in Canada, especially. So we'll be doing that most likely pretty soon. We're also working on something. I won't go into all the details, but we're working on a little special grenade to protect marriage. And to go on the offensive against no fault divorce. And so working on that. There's there's probably some other things, but those are some highlights. So I so what does it take to get a memorial inside of the CREC adopted a church or delegate brings a proposed memorial to a press secretary meeting. Uh huh. A press secretary meeting. So that's all the churches in the region. They each have two delegates. And so those those delegates at a press secretary meeting agree a majority of them agree. This is something that the CREC as a whole should consider. And then that memorial gets sent to council, which in the CREC meets every three years. And council meeting is when all of the press bittaries meet in one place every three years. And that's this year, twenty twenty six. I will be meeting in Nashville. And and so just days before our conference. That's right. Right. For the fight off these conferences. Nice and convenient. But um, so that's so it then gets presented to council. If council agrees, we think this is a good idea. What happens is that one council, they approve a memorial, um, what for what we call a first reading. So they say, we think this is a good idea. We like this. And between that council meeting and then the next council meeting, those three years, um, sometimes there's a little bit of sandpapering, maybe a word change here or there, whatever, just to make it as tight as possible. And then it's brought back before the council a second time where it's ratified and it goes officially into our book of memorials. So then what would take, what would it take to get something like gambling? Or is it not, you know, at that high of a level yet that you think that the C. R. A. C. Or a denomination needs to speak to it. Yeah, it would depend. And so that's part of the reason why it can, it can, it's grassroots. So it's not top down. It's grassroots. And so, you know, I mean, maybe there's a, you know, a church in New Orleans or a church in Atlantic City or a church in Vegas, um, that says, you don't, you, you, you don't get it. Like we need, we need something big. We need some bigger guns here. I mean, we're fighting this economic insanity. Yeah. And we've got, you know, our young men getting sucked into this addiction. And, and with the proliferation of gambling on our phones and, and the full court press in every sports event, you know, it's, you know, the, the, the game of vacation. Yeah. Of, of gambling everywhere. And, you know, guys always, you know, we all have a little bit of a soft spot for a game. You know, a little bit of a soft spot. You know, I was like, you know, and then they, they, they, they, they're turning everything into a game. But now they're also adding money. Um, I like that. The gamification because there's something else in that. Go ahead. I'm sorry. I'm just saying, I think, you know, it, it maybe isn't quite there yet. Yeah. But, but it might be, and, but it's, that's sort of like, that's why you have this mechanism. So a church can bring it and say, this is an issue. Now, a church could bring three proposed memorials and the Presbyterian might be like, yeah, that, yeah. But the first one that works for all of us, those other two, we think that's a more isolated issue that you're dealing with, you know, a church can pass something on their own and just say, this is our position as a church. Yeah. Presbyterians can do that too. So like Knox Presbyterian a few years ago, we passed a, a, our own sort of internal, um, memorial-like statement on kinism, for example, um, in, you know, interracial marriage and that kind of thing. We just said, as far as we're concerned, this is our standard as a Presbyterian. Yeah. And, and then, you know, the council can do, you know, what it pleases. The council could adopt that or not. Could adopt that or do their own thing. So anyways, there, you can, at different levels, it can, it could stop and be like, this is sufficient for here. So like, it might be some things that the Canadians just passed because they needed in Canada in a way that maybe other countries don't. Yeah. Even you say gamification is one of the things that I wish now, I wish I heard that earlier because it made me think that's not in the doc. It is. Is the gamification is? I'm pretty sure it was a matter of time. It's, it, yeah, but not in the way that I'm thinking about. Maybe it is. I did it. It's accessible, I think is there. Yeah, but I think several of our interviews, I think David Bonson mentioned gamification. I think, and I think, and I think fostering, but not as well as in there for the interviews. But, but I think it's in the doc. Okay. I think fostering mentions the gamification several times. Maybe it's just the, maybe it didn't, maybe I cut it. I don't know. No, you're cutting either. I want to say, I mean, because I'm going, I boy one did. I want to say, I got that word from fostering Bonson. Yeah. It sounds familiar because I'm thinking about it. I don't think that we've taken, you know, so remember when video games came out and like grand the photo and games like that, everybody was mad at the violence and mad at that kids could access the violence. Yeah. But I don't know if people thought through all of the other things that it would create or allow for the creation of outside of just the main thing itself. Yeah. What it's training. What it's training you to do. So it's like, okay, well, maybe it's not grand the photo, but maybe it's gambling or, you know, like, like, we've ever thought about how to do it. How like Chuck E. Cheese is this kind of like a gambling training ground? Wait, wait, don't do that. Oh, yeah. Yeah. You get coins, you put coins in the slots and you get tickets out of the game and get tickets and then you get prizes. But of course, the house is always winning. You get little prizes and they're like, I never, I never like it. It's a gambling catacombs class. You feel like you're winning. Yeah. Whenever you get a ticket, you know, I mean, I'm, I take my kids there once in a while, you know, but I'm just saying, like, if you're doing that all the time, I mean, what are you just practicing? You're practicing spending a bunch of money to play a game to get a little buzz that you won something, you know, they give you a little plastic toy that's going to break on the way home. It's like carnivals in two, then, isn't it? I mean, I mean, if you go there and it's like, hey, give us $5 that though the thing that we've already designed that you don't win. Yeah, most of you are going to lose. And if you win, you get a quarter of the price and the value of it. They make it as ball rim, smaller. Yeah. You know, the claw game. Yeah. Yeah. In Japan. I mean, the family in Japan not too long ago. And we went to my son was like one, one evening, the, the girls, the ladies were going to go shopping. And my son was like, Dad, please take me to a video arcade. And I was like, okay, let's go find a video arcade. We did. There's all these like the normal games, you know, the car racing games and all, you know, that kind of stuff. And then there's this whole wing of claw games. It's a mass. I've never seen a room. I mean, that was probably 50 to 100 claw games. Wow. A drop in claws for stuffed animals, anime characters, you know, just all kinds of random stuff. And my son's like, oh, come on, Dad, let me try. And I'm like, you know these things are totally rigged. The claws lose. It's not gonna work. It's not gonna work. It's like, we're, and he's like, please, dad, please, you know, and I find like, here's a buck. He puts the duck in, drops the claw, grabs the stuffed animal, drops it out. I'm like, I said, son, that never happens. That never happens. He's like, give me another dollar, Dad. Yeah. He did it again. Third try got the got second one. So like five bucks got two big massive, like big stuffed animals. I'm like, how are you gonna carry that home? That's amazing. So what we know is if you won the stuffed animals probably 30 cents. You know that? Right. Right. But you know, like, you know, so that's like, but that's how you get hooked. Well, at the max, it's a bad deal. Yeah. Right? Like, even if it was like, was it gambling? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Or Kate lost no money. Right. Right. Right. It wasn't even a fair trade. Right? Yeah. I guess you can, I guess depending on how much you want to value your joy of playing the game. But even then it seems like it's waste. I couldn't, I remember that going to Chuckie Cheese and seeing like, oh, you can get the PlayStation or whatever for a thousand tickets. And I'm like, wait a second, I can buy that for $300. How much money will I have spent on games before I got them any tickets, you know? That never wins. That's a good point. So. I know you're starting you got stuff. I just want to remind everybody we have five docks in yeah, which has Absolutely been a pleasure to do and if you haven't been watching only let's list them. I got him right here too So civil war and the pro-life movement that was number one politics of sex number two number two spank your kids save America. Yeah, my favorite ducks How the sbc got played. Oh That's been a big one. Yeah, I was real quick comment there. I was a Texan Tweeted with a guy on Twitter today from the sbc and he was just saying on Twitter He's like I think Southern Baptist are all on Facebook And that might be true and I made I said in our his comment threads I was like, you know what's funny about that is the SBC doc that we released got over 60,000 you I don't know what's that now maybe 80,000 but got over 60,000 views on Facebook And this current algorithm that Facebook has we maybe rarely get over 5,000 7,000 Yeah, it's whatever it is and we got 60,000 views the lieutenant governors of Southern Baptist in Indiana He shared the documentary And so it seems to me like the guys right like the all Southern Baptist are on Facebook Maybe they're old school or something I was gonna say that's the case. That's the boomers, right? Like maybe older Southern Baptist whatever But I thought that was kind of kind of interesting that at least the conservative of Southern Baptist Yeah, that's true. The last doc was Why gambling is gay that we released last Tuesday if you haven't seen it I recommend going to see it But I brought that up because every doc that we've done there has been a Research paper that comes primarily from the script that our producer puts together that's inside of a link on YouTube So if you go to the YouTube video and you hit information Underneath that there's a Google link for you to grab and go through it has all the details it has History it has facts. It is basically the fact check of the doc So I mean we're doing a lot of research to be able to bring this to you and there's a lot of content that I don't know if people know is available I want to make sure they know is available. There is this was a brief 16 pages. Do we do we do we tweet the link out? I don't are on Twitter. We should just also tweet the link out directly too You know, okay if you haven't done it yet, but you're fired and I'll go and do 16 pages on the doc on gambling and it's well worth your time to go through and to check out Just want to let everybody know that I don't have no volume about this I'm just yeah, so look right now. I'm just we're trying to you know since we're doing so much research on these and so There's such a deep dive we're trying to give out all the stuff that was left on the cutting room floors one thing Which I wanted to ask you about since pass it over you've been writing these yeah But this particular doc there had to been a lot that you like cut out of here Yeah, I don't know I blocked it out That's great. He is good. I do know I do know that and bring you have to help me you're hired again Could you tell me are do we have all of the interviews from the previous docs on the club portal? Not the gambling one, but the gambling one will be up this week, right? You have that's right wonderful club members get access to the full interviews of David Bonson the full interviews that we do for every Synodoc it actually the interviews go into the club portion of our app So make sure you got the fight lap Vs out app downloaded and make sure your club member Yeah, so the one that still stands out to me is Rod Martin and Megan Basham. Yeah, Rod Martin went on a tie-ray for like 25 minutes And just the fun thing was at the end of the 25 minutes is so when are we gonna start recording right? Yeah, that that was We're like now. Yeah, so we got it all we got it all here goal because I mean he was on executive committee And so he understood everything that was going on and knew the whole narrative and so inside scoop there and then Megan Basham Of course had done shepherds for sale and did a chapter Connected to some of this and then it continued to follow up on the story on her own Yeah, I mean she has some receipts. I mean she always has her book goes well with the doc Yeah, I want to address something in the beginning because as soon as we drop the dog one of the one of the comments on the doc that kind of Irritated me and I was like Which one it was the one on like the gambling dog Yeah, that's no the gambling doc. Okay. Yeah, it was like gambling is gay and someone said so is trying to be hip Yeah, you know, and I was like annoyed because I'm like you didn't even watch. Yeah the doc Before you comment in a little bit. Yeah, I want to hear and here's the thing so like Is is the is gay used is it overused? Probably it wasn't until like the lot, you know for a while known was a lot to say it in no one would yeah And now it's being overused now and like but I just yeah to your point though. Yeah, it's like We didn't use it frivolously and we haven't been for the last 10 years. We have no we have no that's right And then we have it We've wanted to be thoughtful and careful about this And that's what we're known for cross politics known for being careful very careful but but and this but in this case It really is very very intentional and and and if you watch the doc you see why It's not just a throw away slur. It's not just a throw away Derogatory comment. We're actually saying no literally right like literally What you are doing with The economic strength and power that God has given to you especially as men What you're you're trying to trick fruitfulness out of a barren ground You're throwing away your strength. You're throwing away that That opportunity for fruitfulness and and that is One of the fundamental sins of homosexuality. That's one of the fundamental sins of Sodom is is you are Rejecting the way God made the world the way God made the world to be fruitful and you're trying to make God's world do something It was never intended to do and that's what that's the whole point of us saying that gambling is gay Yeah, thank you Why don't you bring up that clip? It's a third clip that we mentioned bring up the third clip here Because this this was a very helpful point for me because I didn't I honestly I didn't really made that connection until we did this dog Sometimes I have to write things down and make Gabe read them before he and it's like Oh Roll the clip both gambling and porn are fundamentally gay It's paying women to act out the fruitless sexual fantasies of men instead of the hard work of Loving a real woman and receiving the reward of that loving labor in her beauty and the children that she bears The worldview of gambling denies the existence of a personal creator Covenant God who sovereignly governs the world with that Covenantal wisdom and love the gambling worldview sees history as random luck the idea for deeming your time Right you have limited time as a finite creature and you need to to glorify God with your effort Hmm You know just a just a connection that you brought up in the dark about homosexuality about gay about the quick fix The you know the quick you know fillings that come from this and and the the fruitlessness of Homosexuality the fruitness of support and the fruitlessness of gambling We talked about maybe the numbers DJ what video talked about the numbers of gambling $200 billion you remember that video? I think it's the the second one Play the second one One thing that's not wrong with day trading is that day trading is buying stocks and stocks are like like a brick Right, they represent part of a company so at the very least you're investing money in something that does something We theoretically it provides a bit of service. Well, that's the problem with Sports betting right you're not providing a service to anyone. What's it bringing them to the world? It's simply just taking money from other people and bringing it to yourself without any true benefit added It's making making the same point and I know you're going somewhere else But just want to underline like that's making a similar point like you are not using the strength that God has given you Not to be fruitful. You know, he says okay I mean in a sort of faint way day trading, you know like at least maybe you're you know You're buying bricks and in a in a in a business, but but ultimately like what are you building? What are you making or are you just serving yourself? I mean is it is it fruitful or is it just masturbatory? Yeah, I mean that's what he said so pleasure Yeah, I mean you're just serving yourself. It's like O's in pick in some ways what it's like o's in pick No, you familiar with this weight loss drug everybody's on is like it's too strong. It's strong It's strong Yeah, it's kind of like that GP ones GP ones are Yeah, that's a serena serena. Yeah, yeah, so but it's kind of like that because what people are realizing as they get on this drug Because they actually didn't learn the discipline. Yeah, that's supposed to come along with You know losing weight In other words being strong be it strong right developing the muscles All it does is they lose weight they also lose muscle Okay, and so then and it does a couple different things one of the things it does too is that it it maintains Food inside of digest the system longer Okay, so that you feel full Not a good idea God got a designer like that You're saying we're gonna have an epidemic of gut problem telling you yeah, yeah, we already do Yeah, we've done a couple shows on this on water break with with my wife my wife's all into this and follows all the all the stuff But there's been no long-term studies of o's in pick no no long-term said I don't think there's been a five-year study But nox is right people will get on this drug and you don't want to eat as much But it also is basically sucking muscle off you too okay at the same time So you're losing you are losing weight, but you're you're becoming kind of gaunt. I mean my wife calls it an a zippic face Yeah, yeah Because you can tell the difference between someone who's lost weight naturally Yeah, you know working hard and you know eating right or whatever versus someone who lost weight through o's Zimpy and and there's a little more gauntness to it and everything well and not just that but there is a Discipline that you need to learn right and when you take away that the disciplines are gone right across everything Someone says your face turns into William DeFoe Not wrong This is what you're getting at but like and then if you go off it Yeah, you just balloon right back up. Yeah, so there is a but we still we still don't know how bad it is But yeah, so once you come off it you haven't learned the thing that got you there and then these Okay, the discipline of losing weight is not just the discipline of losing weight is discipline across All of your life. Yeah, the discipline to become smarter and more intelligent the discipline to make the right decisions the discipline to say This time is better spent here and not better spent there. Yeah, like the disciplines across your lifestyle So when you when you're spiritual disciplines that exactly Eating right and being healthy absolutely and so when you when you remove those disciplines You're actually removing a way of living that God has designed you to live So then the outcome of life is going to be a lot different Yep, and you start expecting life to be some sort of microwave process and you start messing up creation You know Michael Foster actually pointed this out and again I it's been a little bit. I can't remember if you pointed this out in the interview or this made it to cut So you want to become a club member? Because you'll get all the information watch the whole interview behind the club portal in in the in the fight left-east app But he pointed out that Sometimes he says you know people think I can be I can be lazy money I'm gonna win. I'm gonna win. I'm gonna win and then when they win He says sometimes he says the the the number of people who win the lottery or win something big and then are bankrupt a few years later That was in the dot is it okay? The stats are high He's strikingly high and he said he says and what it does is it just It doesn't fix all your financial problems. It actually just reveals the kind of financial person you are money doesn't fix you And for many many people who are being very very foolish all it does is it just makes you be able to be foolish on a grander scale Yeah, and then you know a year later three years later And he says sometimes when God wants to bring somebody low he loads them with money. I think I also Oh the judgment I read I read a I don't I forget I was googling this something probably five years ago I read an article that had a series of People stories of people who'd won the lottery, you know the big the big 500 million or whatever lottery and they just went through each person and How they went back to nothing and it was it was crazy reading I was probably had you know probably interviewed like eight different people would won the lottery big Wow and everything I'm gonna read this ad now the mission of armored republic is to honor Christ by equipping free men with tools of liberty Necessary to preserve their God-given rights and the armored republic. Remember mine. Yeah, so my uncle Bill. Um, I hope he's watching. I think he's watching. Hey, um, he never comments on anything I have a post or yeah, uncle Bill now. I gotta tell you my uncle Bill was responsible for my wife and I become Reformed okay, so he taught a class make your own decision where he was taking reform doctrine primarily starting in Genesis around six day creation Yeah, and showing us biblical apologetics that we can trust the Bible and so we we we we trip down that slope and became full on Presbyterian. I don't think he he went all the way that way So when I hear from him on something I take it as it like okay, that's a that's a signal And he said I'm so glad that you guys are tackling this now my uncle Bill is not in our context at all He's not in the reform world at all. He is in his own world and most in the charismatic world Primarily black church black culture environment and he was like this is one of the things that I'd never thought that I would see take place in America because he grew up in a time where You had blue laws right like you know church all the liquor stores were closed Sunday most businesses were closed on Sunday particularly in the south And so he's like there you had to go so far away to find sin yeah And to get involved in stuff, you know the juke joints and stuff were out in the fields, you know He's southern and so he's like now the fact that I can be on the bus or at work and people are gambling their lives away While they're trying to earn more money to gamble. It's basically amazing I never thought I would see that and he's looking at it from where he stands That this is an epidemic that no one's speaking to yet and I just thought it was interesting that his observation Historically, it's kind of like we have a problem and when I'll when I'll say something it's like whoa, okay I didn't know that it was touching you like that But so uncle Bill thank you for commenting. I wish you would like some of my pictures of your nieces and nephews The gamondock got it to talk like great not fan Yeah, I think I wonder I think to like you're thinking you're talking about like sort of how maybe this hits different communities And and I'm just interesting like so you're you're referring to one particular community you're here from Um, and this is something I'm not necessarily a healing from this community, but I I think Then in the broader reformed and probably Presbyterian worlds um, we tend to be far more like Treat gambling as simply kind of like yeah, if you get way too into it, that's dumb But you know, don't be too legalistic It's a it's a sort of like a you know a Christian liberty thing You know like if somebody wants to do that. So I'm just okay. There's no direct Laws, yeah, show me the verse. Yeah, where's the verse right and I then I think this is why But I think it's probably gonna suck people in more than we realize and I and if it hasn't already But I think we're likely to see this um, uh, be a massive problem Even it wherever they're people are not speaking up against it. We're pastors are not speaking out where they're People are not just speaking clearly and saying look you have responsibility before God like time and client said in the last clip To redeem the time. Yeah, that's where to redeem your resources and again, uh, we say in the doc There's a place for playing games Sabbath principle means yeah, you can you can play play a game. Yeah, but but the routine ritual Epidemic well in the world view of it. Yeah And again, it's the point of it is discipleship. What are you practicing? Yeah, and you can't practice this pagan worldview Right this random worldview that says I can get fruitfulness Um through uh without work. Yeah without sacrifice. Um, it's completely against the gospel I mean like the gospel is you know christlady's life down and purchased and won us Because that's how God made the world he made the world where you lay your life down you love one woman and the children She bears and you pour yourself out day in and day out God blesses that covenantally with fruitfulness. Yeah, you can't Embrace a pagan worldview and think you're gonna trick fruitfulness out of um laziness out of out of trying to you know a blackjack out of you know pushing a button on your phone and not not actually sacrificing Um, you can't you can't get that well And here's as the thing with gambling is it always The way our culture talks about it starts very innocently Anna starts to you you pointed out like chucky cheese in some of these places where you kind of like already starting to groom a little bit to think that way Not chucky in the not chucky My name is chucky, but the church But the church hasn't really I think I mean I never the only times I ever talked about gambling in the church It just seemed kind of like a just broad brush. No, don't do it stay away from it kind of thing Even though everyone knew the college kids were doing it um, and so I never was kind of walk through like kind of like a biblical view of how to process the worldview of gambling And so we kind of start off young in this and then now it's on our phone So like the the growth of what happen is happening with gambling in our culture is is it's an I think what what a Michael foster call like an epidemic Kind of scenario, but it it for the longest time I just viewed it as like just kind of this innocent thing You can get hurt doing it. Oh bad habit or some bad habit or you know my friends would go to shrew port lewisiana to go gambling kind of thing And I didn't think it was that big of a deal Kind of thing and like like you said like you know, we can play we have to have a thread stuff, but like That should in some sense that qualifications should be done like it were almost kind of like Qualifying in a way where it's like no, we just we need to talk about the world of gambling and what's going on One of the things that was yeah, I know I agree and one of the things that was interesting that we brought up in the doc And and some of our conversation with time and client and some and some with Foster as well as It is interesting like when you this gamification of everything so they both pointed out There's the website. It's I think it's called polymarkets right? Yeah, polymarkets where you can bet on and I follow them on Twitter Okay, and you can bet on the war and I ran yeah I mean, but you can bet like literally I come almost on anything like you know is Is drop state of the union speeds can include the word abortion or something It random things and but interestingly then we talked a little bit about the sports betting too in the way that it it destroys sports Um because it's like Now it's not about actually the game. Yeah, yeah, and it's not about like living life well It's about like how can I Manipulate this situation to get something out of it for me So back to that point the fostering like your your your it's not but but the gamification is is to serve me Yeah, that's right and now I don't care about Blessing others. I don't care about the joy of life and the joy of playing a game together But now it's like how can I manipulate this? That's right and and this is why coaches in the NBA and players in the NBA I don't know if you followed this but like Chancy billups got arrested and a number of players got arrested For gambling on their own games. Yes So they're in the middle of playing a game that they've gambled on and there's this one I don't know that you've seen this video of this one player in the NBA I think he plays for the spurs or Portland troll blazers Like just taking awful shots. It's like it doesn't even look like oh wow He's in his passes or like what is going on? You know missing oh Wide open like lay up you know stuff like that and you're like how much money do you make no wonder? Yeah, it actually creates distrust in the game too because now you're wondering this guy trying to throw it And that's part of my point though is this like so all of that is just like actually destroying the fun Yeah, like it's it's weird. It's like in the name of real genuine competition Because you've gamified everything you're actually stealing the fun now like you're like your life is you know You know you know your savings is maybe you know Gonna you know you're gonna lose it on this or you're gonna be in trouble because you you've spent it on this Whereas when you when you live honestly before the Lord there's a deep joy In honest labor and honest sacrifice even the difficulty in the hardships you're because it's it is what it is Yeah, and you're not you're not trying to game it. You're not trying to game the system I mean you get to live before the Lord honestly and it's and it's a huge joy and blessing So Remind everybody These synodox are happening. We're basically releasing one about once a month. Hopefully we can pick up the pace eventually on that We're pushing for two three and four. I just wonder. I know I won't follow So if you guys do it in the club honestly, it's it's we're creating some really special content I think with these synodox and and your membership is going right to it and everything The last thing we want to just talk about for a minute nox is moving to Arizona Yeah, moving the family to Arizona Yes, so that's interesting our corporate partner Yes, David Reese. Yeah, who we love and we've had a just a fun fantastic relationship for what four years something like that five years since since Vity was at the conference in 2021 2021 I think Yeah, and so David Reese has brought you on to be his chief of staff because he he doesn't just own Armory public, you know, it's like five or six business. He's got a nice size portfolio Yeah, he's built the portfolio and so you are he's the way I've been saying it is he made you an offer you couldn't I said, you know, I don't know any details But I know that you know nox got a bunch of miles of feed and a bunch of children he wants to send to college Yeah, and I know I know that I could see it. I can see it and David is a good man David You're both David's but David Reese is a really good man And he and I know he's gonna provide well for you and your family and so we're super grateful for that but obviously but you know big question people are gonna start Starting access to what's that mean for cross-policity? Was that mean for five-life fees? Yeah, a lot and absolutely nothing at all That's right. That's right. We're gonna be recording live shows online that doesn't change or we're still doing our five-life fees conference in October Right, if you look at the format that we're currently doing right now The only thing that's really gonna change is that these right here these live shows probably just more being person as often But the hopefully the docs are something that we can continue to maintain if you look at the docs right now We're still all in different places. We're kind of filming and producing and recording So it allows us to continue to do this which will still have massive deep dives But the live shows and these but these occasional live shows are basically they'll they'll turn into basically like zoom I'm still thinking about really interesting ways to do that too. That's unique Not just gonna make it awesome, but you know, but you'll but we're still gonna do these conversations It'll just more of them will be online than previously And what was funny was we already kind of were making changes in January before we knew docs We were experimenting with this new format with this new format and so we started doing these synodox and part of every year We meet in January and we say what can we do better? What can we do different? What can we do unique when we started cross-politics in 2016? No one was talking about really Christ in politics right now and now there's so many shows especially that from a theonomic perspective Right, right, so and so part of what we're trying to do is we're trying to do something unique that no one's really doing And that's what the synodox are for and then we're still going to be doing our our live show online and everything So that's kind of the new format for this year when again you guys join the club. You support what we're doing our producers our ability to make more synodox So joining the club If you like these synodox and if they've been a blessing to your family I mean, we're trying to make them the kind of thing that you can watch the family You could show to a sunny school class or a youth group or yes, they're about 30 minutes small group meeting or whatever But we're trying to cover issues against similar Kind of approach. We want to take God's word and apply it to something in politics or culture. That's that's timely But we're trying to do a deeper dive. It's a little bit higher production values And very focused there very focus, but it's a blessing to you. Please join the club Become a club member support our work so that we can keep doing this also just shout out We also have since the beginning of the new year Started a really active sub stack so cross-monolithic sub stack.
