- 2:11Welcome, Welcome down here in the underground.
- 2:15I'm Trucker Mouth and this is the roadshow down here giving
- 2:18veterans a voice. Today we're on the Roadshow.
- 2:22We discuss issues in American trucking industry, how it
- 2:26affects America and American trucking industry as a whole.
- 2:33OK, before we get started, I want to point out the point I've
- 2:38been opening up my show with this last couple times.
- 2:43So in 2023, the Veteran Improvement Commercial Driver's
- 2:47Licensing Act was implemented. That means that veterans exiting
- 2:52the military with their TI benefits can use them to go to
- 3:02regulatory approved truck driving schools to get their
- 3:07their Class A license and drive the big truck, the large car you
- 3:15know, do the you know Americans was my American.
- 3:17It was my dream to be a complete owner operator and cowboy around
- 3:24and yeah so but but looking into it anymore with all everything
- 3:28they want you to pay and things keep going up.
- 3:30I don't know if that'd be a good idea to do that.
- 3:33You'd really have to be pretty savvy on on your money.
- 3:38So truckers pay enough into the tax system as Congress works for
- 3:44long term solutions to make the highway trust fund sustainable.
- 3:47Now the highway trust fund is a that's that's the funded builds
- 3:52roads, fixes roads, you know, puts guard rails up, fixes
- 3:57potholes, everything. It all comes down to the highway
- 4:00trust fund and a lot of things contribute to that.
- 4:04But they're trying to they're trying to Jack that up so that,
- 4:07you know, more safer roads out there and more passable roads
- 4:12with more as the population keeps increasing.
- 4:18All right, so you know, here I'm going to point out because
- 4:22because they keep coming out with new fees this and that on a
- 4:25truck. I'm point, I'm just going to
- 4:27point out some of the things that that the the transportation
- 4:32industry has has to already pay for.
- 4:36And so we're going to look at along with the cost of operating
- 4:42a truck, a trucking company and maintenance on the vehicle.
- 4:47So you know, it's just like on your car, you know, everything
- 4:51you got to do with your car, they got to do with these
- 4:53trucks, but on a large scale and a very more expensive, very more
- 4:56expensive take on it. So you know, there's a lot, you
- 5:03know, you got your tires just like your car, you got tires and
- 5:07they're wearable parts. And you know, a car tire
- 5:12anymore, I mean, just say an SUV, you can go like what, 2 or
- 5:16$50 a tire, whereas a truck tire is $800,000 enough depending on
- 5:22what, what you're getting, I guess.
- 5:27And you've got a whole lot of tires on an 18 Wheeler, you
- 5:29know, to, to, to pay for, you know, and especially when it
- 5:34comes to inspection, you know, that's one of the big things
- 5:36they're hit hard on when these trucks is inspections and
- 5:40they're always hit hard on tires.
- 5:41So you're always buying tires and plus they're blowing out and
- 5:45you're, and you're getting flats with obstacles in the road.
- 5:52Your inspection, everything goes with that.
- 5:54And as you're as you're putting a lot of models on your tractor,
- 5:58you know, you got things up front on the front end there
- 6:00that are, they're getting really, really war like, you
- 6:02know, your your stabilization bar, your, your you got your,
- 6:08you got your tie rod ends, all that stuff's wearable parts.
- 6:13And you know, you, you, you, that's everything do with
- 6:18inspection every year. And then not just that, you
- 6:21know, not just the cost of it to make it, you got to make it
- 6:23safe. You know, you got to be safe out
- 6:24there, man. Something happens, something
- 6:26happens out there with one of them, You're done.
- 6:28And and then you're not only your life in your hands, but
- 6:30other people's. You got your fuel and your
- 6:34death. So fuel these tanks.
- 6:38They got 303 hundred gallon tanks, two of them usually on a
- 6:42on a large car, a good one. So you're going to fill up and
- 6:47just say you do a fill up and foul hard to say 500 gallons at
- 6:52what 469 a gallon. Do the math on that one crisis,
- 7:00the $2000 just to just to fill your truck up.
- 7:03Of course you got your food out there, which is a big cost.
- 7:07You got to eat, you know, and you're not going to always be,
- 7:11you know, hitting off that that Buff air truck stop man.
- 7:15You're going to be treat yourself a steak as I did.
- 7:18I went one place I got I was living in that Home Depot
- 7:23account. Anything that was ever around
- 7:25there was an Applebee's other than fast food.
- 7:28Like I started eating fast food. So I went up to the steak place
- 7:31up on the hill and I tried to keep it cheap.
- 7:34I tried to keep it cheap And I, I sat up there, you know, I was
- 7:38done for. Dad drank a couple beers and I
- 7:40ate a small steak. It was a cheap steak.
- 7:43About 10 beers later, I got the big steak.
- 7:47How you like me now and that meal.
- 7:50I mean, I spent like 60 bucks up here a day.
- 7:52Does he? Well, that's my own fault, but I
- 7:56don't know, like steak, I picked it out and everything I took
- 8:01about you got your toes. Toes every goddamn where.
- 8:05You know, New York, I mean, all your big cities got tolls,
- 8:10bridges, tunnels, all that. All them tolls keep going up.
- 8:15Got that now I guess there's an owner operator.
- 8:19He could claim all that at the end of the year.
- 8:22Nevertheless, you've got to fork it out now.
- 8:26Well, you got your easy pass fund.
- 8:28I don't know. I see I don't have to deal with
- 8:29it. I never was.
- 8:30I never got to my dream. I never got to do it now.
- 8:34I never will now because I don't have a CDL on there.
- 8:36Trucker mount never get ACDL guy.
- 8:39Trucker mount got a life time suspension on this CDL because
- 8:43he's terrible person. So hey, you got anything to do
- 8:49with your engine? Keep up.
- 8:50Just like your car. You got, you got you know, you
- 8:52got you got oil changes this and that.
- 8:56You know all everything, everything to do with your with
- 9:00your car. You have to do the truck, but on
- 9:01a larger scale and a more expensive scale, that's for
- 9:03sure. That's some of these dudes.
- 9:06They got their own garage at home where they pull in and they
- 9:09do all their own maintenance. Now that's your real savvy
- 9:12trucker. I mean, I like I said, I never
- 9:13got to that point and I never will.
- 9:16But looking into all what they pay out, I mean, you know, these
- 9:19people, I'm going to bring this up later on, give up everything
- 9:23for this job. They give up everything, give
- 9:25everything to be on the road to make that money.
- 9:28You're away from your family. You know, if you have children,
- 9:31all that you're away from that and, and, and you're out there
- 9:34and it's tough, man, it, it's it's tough out there.
- 9:38And you know, they shouldn't be treated like, you know, like
- 9:43they're you're not. I wasn't treated very well
- 9:47because you got a million trucks going into these places and they
- 9:49they don't, they don't like truck drivers, trucks, trucks
- 9:51coming and they got to work. So they're trying to make the
- 9:56trucking industry pay more. That's why I'm doing this
- 9:58segment here on high costs, running on the, that's why I'm
- 10:02doing this segment just to point out, all righty, what they got
- 10:06to pay out the transportation, the transportation industry has
- 10:09to pay out. OK, now we got all your tags and
- 10:13all that and I researched this. First of all, you got your IPG
- 10:15tag, which is the supposed to be an international registration
- 10:18plan, every truck and every tag every year.
- 10:21So on top of your inspections and all that, you got to get
- 10:23these tags, these stickers. Now you don't see a lot of the
- 10:31trucks anymore rolling stickers on the side.
- 10:33I don't know what this IPG tags, which is supposed to be
- 10:36International British Racing Plan, I'm not real sure what
- 10:39that is, but you got, they got to pay for it says IPG tags.
- 10:44I did the research on this IPG tags.
- 10:51There it is. They have to pay for it and you
- 10:54got your federal excise tax on all new purchases based on the
- 10:59purchase price with new tractors pushing over $200,000 and
- 11:04trailers are the same way. They're way up there now.
- 11:07So this federal excise tax you got to pay on everything new.
- 11:11And I'm I'm sure that the your average consumer out there has
- 11:14to do it too. I imagine they can't just put
- 11:16that on truckers. Imagine we're all paying that on
- 11:19new things. But you know, if they pay the
- 11:23federal excise tax on every new tire, there's 18 tires on an 18
- 11:27Wheeler and always wearing out and blowing out like we
- 11:29discussed earlier. So there you got there, you got
- 11:34that, which like I said, I think your average consumer pays that
- 11:37also. OK, got your fuel tax, got your
- 11:43fuel tax based on fuel mileage. Every state across the country,
- 11:47no matter where, no matter where you fuel in that state, you've
- 11:52got to pay the same fuel tax. So if it's if it's you go you're
- 11:58100 miles from somewhere, it's $0.10 cheaper.
- 12:00Or is it? It's the cheapest place around.
- 12:02You're still paying the highest fuel tax because no matter where
- 12:08where in the state you fuel is, is That's why these these
- 12:14truckers try, they try to get through States and have high
- 12:18that I have have high fuel, fuel, fuel prices because
- 12:22they're now they're trying to save money, get through them and
- 12:26then they do their best. These guys know, and I said on
- 12:30our segment, these guys know where to fuel, what states to
- 12:33fuel one, which one to stay away from.
- 12:36You got your Federal Highway use tax, which keeps going up over
- 12:39years. OK, used to be based on how many
- 12:44trucks you have. Now you pay upfront on how many
- 12:47trucks you have. So say you just have just one
- 12:49truck. You got to pay that upfront and
- 12:50one lump sum. And if you sell that truck or
- 12:56wreck that truck, there's no refund on that.
- 12:59You don't get any money back. You still paid that.
- 13:01You still paid that. You still paid that highway,
- 13:07highway, Federal Highway use tax.
- 13:10It's it's that, it's, it's like I said, that was always my dream
- 13:13to go, to go to the cowboy trucker where I can go what I
- 13:16want and do what I want. You know what?
- 13:19That's why you don't see that much anymore.
- 13:21You hardly, you don't really see it anymore much anymore.
- 13:24No, there's still thousands of them out there, don't get me
- 13:26wrong, but not like back in the 70s.
- 13:29And so there you go. Is is the government's using
- 13:35tax, tax dollar funds to create bike pass and EE vehicle
- 13:40charging stations and such rather than investing
- 13:43traditional infrastructure? Came on a protest from trucking
- 13:46industry. Hell yeah.
- 13:47It came on a truck. It came on a protest from
- 13:49trucking industry. They want, you know, that should
- 13:53be used to fix the roads and bridges and all that.
- 13:57Now I have a bike, I have a bike and I use bike paths and such.
- 14:03But that should become from the, that should come from the state,
- 14:07not the government. States do that man, and put that
- 14:11money, put that money in a, in a, the highway trust fund and
- 14:16use that for the infrastructure of the roads.
- 14:21And by the way, electric vehicles, despite having heavier
- 14:23batteries, do not contribute to the highway trust fund.
- 14:26They're heavier and I'm going to go for a little bit longer than
- 14:32a couple a minute or so. So these American Electric
- 14:39vehicles, they said they're heavier, do not contribute to
- 14:43the highway trust fund. Effective wheels don't use fuel,
- 14:46therefore they're not paying into the Highway trust Fund
- 14:49because they're not paying a fuel tax, which goes to a
- 14:51highway trust fund. Congressional Budget Office
- 14:53estimates gas tax revenues, the majority of trust fund
- 14:57recipients will decline over years, estimating at 40%.
- 15:01So as these cars get more electric vehicles out there and
- 15:05your hybrids and all that get better on fuel, you're going to
- 15:08lose 40% of the, of the, the fuel tax that goes into the
- 15:15Highway Trust Fund. The House Transportation
- 15:20Infrastructure Committee on Wednesday, April 30th approved a
- 15:24budget reconciliation program proposal that includes a $22150
- 15:29fee for trucks, an annual fee for EV users.
- 15:40Oh, it's $250. I can't even read my writing
- 15:44sometime. I got to get a computer, print
- 15:45these things out because it's, I can do a book report all the
- 15:48time for my clock. I don't have teleprompter or
- 15:50people holding cards up. I got to write every fucking
- 15:52down and do it. So here we go.
- 15:54So yeah, so it's, it's, it's, it's it's $250 annual fee for EV
- 16:00users EV card, $100 on hybrids and $20 on regular passenger
- 16:06cars. According to the Transportation
- 16:07Infrastructure Committee, the new fees will increase Highway
- 16:10Trust fund by 38 billion / 10 years.
- 16:14I mean, they got to do something.
- 16:15They got to keep the roads safe. They got to keep the roads going
- 16:18and because there's more and more truck cars on the road all
- 16:22the time and trucks and everything else.
- 16:25All right. So when we come back, when we
- 16:28come back, it's road rage on proposed congestion pricing
- 16:37tolling. When we come back, we're going
- 16:39to commercial. Military broadcast radio, the
- 18:17station that's giving veterans a voice.
- 18:20Find us on the web at MB radio dot.
- 18:24Opinions expressed in this. Road rage.
- 18:32Hello everybody, welcome back on the road.
- 18:34It's time for road rage. Road rage segment I do on
- 18:40current events around the world and here in America and how it
- 18:43effects America as a whole. Today we're going to road rage
- 18:46on congestive pricing tolls, proposed congestion pricing
- 18:51tolls. New York's the first one to do
- 18:55it. New York City.
- 18:56OK, so New York City is the first one to do this and you
- 19:01know, if it gets approved up there, every large city is going
- 19:03to file suit. All right, so I mean, you know,
- 19:09they just say on top and I just did my first segment on every on
- 19:12on just a bunch of things that the transportation industry
- 19:16already has to pay and now they want to do this for people
- 19:19trying to do their job and truck or mouth don't like it and he's
- 19:25putting the hammer down on it. Congestion Pricing Tolling is a
- 19:31traffic management strategy where drivers are charged a fee
- 19:35to use certain roads or enter specific areas during periods of
- 19:39high traffic congestion. The goal is to reduce traffic
- 19:43volume, improve Rd. efficiently and encourage the use of public
- 19:46transportation on off peak travel or off peak travel.
- 19:53Now putting the price on everything just don't work.
- 20:00I mean, you got you got to figure something out.
- 20:02These people are going into New York, you got your food, the
- 20:05food delivery food, I'm sorry, food delivery, you know, Cisco
- 20:08and all them going in there, every single they got to route
- 20:12up there and they got to get they got to get they have to get
- 20:24the deliveries to them so they can sell them and the economy.
- 20:31That's how that's how the economy goes.
- 20:34You know, you deliver, you deliver the goods, people buy
- 20:35the goods, they buy more goods, the trucks come deliver them,
- 20:39the consumer buys them. And that's how the world works.
- 20:44And you know, trucks keep everything streamlined.
- 20:47If you have, you know, you have everything you need, everybody's
- 20:50happy. You got the parts you need, you
- 20:52got the foods you need. I mean, it, it, it's, it's just
- 20:58how the world goes and, and, and they want to, they want to put
- 21:00a, a price on it. It's just just so, just so, you
- 21:05know, here, it's like, you know, along with the tolls for the
- 21:10bridges, the tunnels, all that. Now they want to put a price on
- 21:16going into Manhattan. So they've got proposed here.
- 21:19And I looked this up. January 5th, 20 fund charging
- 21:23vehicles entering Manhattan's Congestion Relief zone.
- 21:27Local streets and avenues below 60th St. based on the vehicle
- 21:30type, time of day and payment method.
- 21:33Below 60th Ave. in Manhattan is where it's where we congested at
- 21:38EZ Pass users. Peak hours 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
- 21:43Weekends from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Nine dollars peak hours
- 21:49overnight 225 well look these all these places are only open
- 21:55during the day or already received during the day you know
- 21:58what what are they supposed to do tell them to tell them to
- 22:02change their hours in You can't put everything on the
- 22:05transportation industry. It ain't it ain't like that only
- 22:08one for trucks, so trucks and commercial vehicles peak hours
- 22:12are easy passes 1440 on top of your your tolls for your
- 22:17bridges, your tunnels, all that now you got to pay 1440 to go
- 22:21into these areas overnight. It's only 360.
- 22:25I still bitching because you should have to pay a damn thing
- 22:29because you're doing them a favor.
- 22:30You're you're bringing products to them.
- 22:31It ain't easy to get. It ain't easy to get into
- 22:34Manhattan. I'm pretty I'm pretty sure 53
- 22:38one O twos aren't allowed. They're not allowed in
- 22:39Manhattan. I don't believe, but to launch
- 22:43trucks now peak hours, they want to pay 2160 that was small
- 22:48trucks, the last one 2160 go in there and peak hours.
- 22:55Well, that's when they that's when they delivered.
- 22:57That's when they want their products.
- 23:00And you can't put everyone in the transportation industry, you
- 23:02know, you got you got to go to the whole world and look, we got
- 23:05to change this. I understand they want, they
- 23:06want to try to cut down emissions, cut down the
- 23:09congestion downtown, but, you know, charge a fee.
- 23:14What happens when you charge these fees is everything,
- 23:17everything builds up, shit rolls downhill.
- 23:20So you OK, you charge the trucker 2160 and they got just
- 23:25say the trucks in there all the time, every day.
- 23:29So you know damn well they're going to raise their prices on
- 23:32their products that they're delivering.
- 23:35And then they're going to raise the product, they're going to
- 23:37raise their prices on their food or whatever they're making to
- 23:42the to the consumer and he's going to pay more.
- 23:45So, you know, you can't always put a price on something and
- 23:50that's going to make it better. Taxis too.
- 23:57They want to charge $0.75 for yo taxis and green cabs, black
- 24:01cars. I don't know with a green cab
- 24:04and black car but I know yo a taxi and then the the Lyft
- 24:08drivers an Uber dollar 50 to go in there.
- 24:16I believe they said it's only once it's only once a day.
- 24:18So once you charge the the fee you can go in there.
- 24:21I think as many times as you want.
- 24:24Passive vehicles will rise. 2028 passive vehicle tolls will rise
- 24:28to 12 hours. 2031 passenger vehicle peak tolls will reach
- 24:33$15. Just imagine what truck, big
- 24:36truck is already 21 something. Now fuck out of here.
- 24:42Low income residents after the 1st 10 trips in the calendar
- 24:45month finish the discount on eight time tolls is available.
- 24:51So what happens you there ain't no long income on downtown
- 24:53Manhattan. You ain't living down Manhattan
- 24:56in low income. Not that I know of.
- 25:00Low income residents, yeah. What about the residents that
- 25:03live down there? They got to go in there during
- 25:05the peak hours or just getting done work or something.
- 25:09Had the 1st 10 trips in the counter month for that discount.
- 25:11Low income residents. Residents with within the zone
- 25:14that qualify for a state tax credit if their adjusted gross
- 25:17income was under 60,060 grand up there is like see I live here in
- 25:22PA which is right under New York.
- 25:25Since you ran a bear that's like minimum wage.
- 25:29Live in Manhattan. You better make you better.
- 25:30Make 4 times that and live in Manhattan.
- 25:34Exemptions. Emerging vehicles, of course.
- 25:36Commuter buses, vehicle trams, disabled personnel.
- 25:38Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Drivers entering the tolls via
- 25:43toll tunnels, the Holland Tunnel, Lincoln, Hugh L Carey,
- 25:48Queens. Midtown Bridge during peak
- 25:49hours. Easy pass.
- 25:50Receive a crossing credit against the congestion toll.
- 25:53No credits provided for bridge crossings.
- 25:56You know what? Yeah, right.
- 25:57They're trying to make it. Well, OK.
- 25:59No, no, we don't want it at all. There's, there are already,
- 26:01there's already opposition against it.
- 26:04There's already, there's already people suing the state and all
- 26:06that. You can't don't do that.
- 26:12There's several types of congestion pricing, towing a
- 26:15corridor, pricing a fetal enter a cordon, pricing a fetal enter
- 26:19a defined area like a central business district.
- 26:22Yeah, OK. Like I said, you're doing these
- 26:24people a favor by bringing their products in on a timely basis
- 26:28and keeping them stocked up on whatever they need.
- 26:31They always want to come back on on the transportation industry.
- 26:36We got variable tolling. Tolls change based on time of
- 26:39day. Fuck out of here.
- 26:41Uber, Lyft do that. The same rides you got, the same
- 26:44ride you got mover Gotta stop using Lyft.
- 26:48They're they're crooked. The same rides you get today for
- 26:51$8, say from here across the bridge here to Wrightsville.
- 26:55When they're busy, it's it's $12.00, thirteen dollars, $15.
- 26:59Bullshit on that zone based pricing fees applied within
- 27:05certain zones regardless of entry point.
- 27:08Yeah, they're just trying to Surrey code everything.
- 27:13Trucker mouth don't like it. He's putting that number down on
- 27:16it. We're not going to pay.
- 27:19I'm crashing the gate door 98. We said that damn trucker roll
- 27:2210 four go. We got a great big convoy.
- 27:26Can't always charge. Come back on the trucking
- 27:28industry for everything. What's that going to sign?
- 27:30They're not going to stand. They still got to be in there,
- 27:32but that time's delivered. They got a delivery time.
- 27:34Like I said, you got to go to all these companies, this and
- 27:37that and say, hey, what can we do here?
- 27:42That's trucker mouse take on it. I don't know told you should be
- 27:46ringing off the hook, man what what?
- 27:49Nobody got nothing to say. Trucker mouse worldwide,
- 27:53worldwide, worldwide, worldwide. Distance based pricing charges
- 28:00depending on how far a vehicle travels within the zone.
- 28:03Fuck out of here. So they're trying to sugarcoat
- 28:06everything. We're not going to pay it.
- 28:09And I'm laying it down in the underground on congestion
- 28:12pricing, towing, and we ain't having it.
- 28:18So I don't know, man. Can't put a price on everything.
- 28:21And and and and there's a mismanaged infrastructure is
- 28:27what it is and you can't and just, you know, towing this and
- 28:30towing that mega airing harder to stuff get there is not the
- 28:34not the answer. I took him out breaking it down.
- 28:37He don't like it. My brothers and sisters out
- 28:41there driving trucks are putting everything they have.
- 28:44They give everything up. They have to drive these trucks.
- 28:48Even even you you local guys know they're working.
- 28:50They're working man hours running them.
- 28:52So the, the stress on them, everything else and it, it's,
- 28:56it's, it's not right. One more thing that they got to,
- 29:03one more thing that they have to pay out and worry about.
- 29:10Fair. Lawmakers in New Jersey and New
- 29:11York introduced 3 bills that go directly after New York City's
- 29:14congestion pricing problem program and the Metropolitan
- 29:18Transportation Authority. So they got there, there,
- 29:22there's people going after them. They're they're trying to shut
- 29:24this down even before it gets started and they really should.
- 29:30Other efforts to stop congestion pricing, at least nine lawsuits
- 29:33filed in federal District Court or challenging congestion
- 29:36pricing. Yeah, 'cause that ain't the
- 29:39answer. It's not the answer.
- 29:41And trucker mouse burning it down.
- 29:44I'm not going to have it. We're not having it, we're not
- 29:49paying. We're crashing the gate to a 98
- 29:52and letting them truckers roll to embolden.
- 29:56Well, looks like we got to our destination.
- 30:01This is the end of the road. I'm trucker mouth.
- 30:04Thanks for coming along for the ride on the road.
