- 1:13Speaker 1: It is All Willie Wednesday. Thank you for being with us.
- 1:17Speaker 1: We have a full show today. Coming up in just
- 1:20Speaker 1: a few moments, I'm going to be joined by author
- 1:22Speaker 1: Daniel Dockery. His book called I Am the Night, the
- 1:27Speaker 1: Ultimate Unauthorized History of Batman, the Animated Series. Daniel Dockery
- 1:33Speaker 1: will join us here in a few minutes. Scott Clendenin
- 1:35Speaker 1: is here. We have lots of topics to go through.
- 1:40Speaker 1: And Mallory is here, and we have lots of topics
- 1:44Speaker 1: to go through. The Texas Rangers were so close to
- 1:48Speaker 1: getting to.
- 1:48Speaker 6: 500 and tying the Houston Astros.
- 1:52Speaker 1: And then they played Oakland for the third game of
- 1:58Speaker 1: their series. They've been almost unbeatable when they scored first,
- 2:03Speaker 1: which they did with two home runs and led 2-0.
- 2:06Speaker 1: And then all the fun started. The Rangers pitching has
- 2:10Speaker 1: blown up. The A's lead 9-2. That game is in
- 2:14Speaker 1: the eighth inning. Cody Bradford wasn't good. Jordan Montgomery hasn't
- 2:19Speaker 1: been good. Nobody's been good that they've run out there.
- 2:22Speaker 1: It's been ugly. Let's put it that way. They'll begin
- 2:27Speaker 1: a four-game series with Tampa Bay tomorrow. They won last
- 2:32Speaker 1: night 8-5. They scored eight runs the night before. And
- 2:37Speaker 1: then this. The Astros got beat last night. That was
- 2:41Speaker 1: the good news. They play the White Sox again this evening.
- 2:45Speaker 1: We'll have that broadcast at 640 here on The Zone.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Hayden Wisniewski, the starter for the Houston's. They are 70-69.
- 2:55Speaker 6: The Rangers went into this afternoon at 69-70.
- 2:58Speaker 1: And, well, you know the rest. I said this yesterday,
- 3:08Speaker 1: and Mike Trout is confirming it. The rest of the
- 3:13Speaker 1: AOS may be in trouble. The Los Angeles Angels of
- 3:18Speaker 1: Anaheim are about to be awakened. Artie Moreno, the horrible
- 3:24Speaker 1: owner for the last 23 years, sold the team, and
- 3:28Speaker 1: not just to anybody, to Stan Kroenke. He wins championships.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Mike Trout telling reporters... It's a fresh start. You kind
- 3:37Speaker 1: of felt that way. It was needed. No hard feelings
- 3:41Speaker 1: to Artie, but I'm super excited. The guys are excited.
- 3:46Speaker 1: There's a good vibe around the clubhouse and around this stadium. Yeah.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Poor Mike Trout. He's been with a team that's been terrible.
- 3:57Speaker 1: And Artie Moreno's ownership has been terrible. The SEC has
- 4:03Speaker 1: filed a brief with the Louisiana court ahead of tomorrow's
- 4:07Speaker 1: injunction hearing, including an affidavit from Commissioner Greg Sankey. The
- 4:13Speaker 1: brief outlines why the SEC should hold authority to enforce
- 4:17Speaker 1: its rules against a member school and Sankey not held accountable.
- 4:23Speaker 1: He details the penalties afforded to him and the president's.
- 4:27Speaker 1: He says no president has voted against the penalties released
- 4:31Speaker 1: in memos last week, clarifies the SEC is not an
- 4:36Speaker 1: NCAA agent, and says permitting pro players would create unfairness
- 4:42Speaker 1: for high school athletes. Tennessee Chancellor Donda Plowman, president of
- 4:49Speaker 1: the executive committee, tells ESPN the league will enforce its rules.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Regarding NFL players, we're prepared to defend our rules and
- 4:57Speaker 1: on our authority to defend the rules. This is not
- 5:01Speaker 1: a rule we will budge on. Marty Smith says LSU
- 5:05Speaker 1: officials confirmed to ESPN that Saturday's season opening home game
- 5:12Speaker 1: against Clemson is the most media and celebrity credentialed game
- 5:18Speaker 1: in the history of Tiger Stadium. So all of this
- 5:26Speaker 1: stuff is working. A St. Louis County judge, meanwhile, has
- 5:31Speaker 1: denied an NCAA motion to dismiss a temporary restraining order
- 5:36Speaker 1: that gave Missouri defensive tackle Sterling Webb a fifth year
- 5:41Speaker 1: of eligibility. Eli Drinkwitz, who called all of this stuff
- 5:48Speaker 1: a clown show earlier this week, said, yeah, I just
- 5:52Speaker 1: got a tweet that says a TRO making Sterling Webb
- 5:56Speaker 1: eligible remains in place after a St. Louis County judge
- 6:01Speaker 1: this morning denied the NCAA's motion. It looks like we're
- 6:07Speaker 1: ready to go, said Drinkwits. I mean, I don't know
- 6:10Speaker 1: what to tell you. Just waiting for tweets. All I
- 6:14Speaker 1: do is sit around and wait for tweets. Y'all wait
- 6:17Speaker 1: for injury reports to tell you who's in and who's out.
- 6:21Speaker 1: We wait for tweets from judges. What a system we've
- 6:25Speaker 1: got here. But Eli, who called it a clown show,
- 6:30Speaker 1: is more than willing to use the system. Steve Sarkeesian
- 6:36Speaker 1: said on the conference call today, don't be surprised at
- 6:41Speaker 1: the end of November if Texas State is talking about
- 6:46Speaker 1: making the college football playoffs. I think Texas State's a
- 6:52Speaker 1: really good team. So they've got our attention. They've got
- 6:56Speaker 1: our players' attention. That's where our focus is. Again, it's
- 7:02Speaker 1: Texas State. Who are the highest paid coaches in college football?
- 7:08Speaker 1: Sportico says Kurt Cignetti is number one. 13.2 million. Kirby Smart,
- 7:16Speaker 1: 13 million. And Lane Kiffin, 13 million. Ryan Day and
- 7:21Speaker 1: Kalen DeBoer, 12 and a half. Marcus Freeman and Mario Cristobal, 12.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Matt Rule, 11.79 milsky.
- 7:28Speaker 7: Mike Elko, 11.65.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Steve Sarkeesian, 11.55. Dabo, 11.5. Lincoln Riley and Dan Lanning
- 7:31Speaker 1: at Oregon, 11 million milsky. Deion Sanders, $ 10. 8 million. And
- 7:51Speaker 1: Eli Drinkowitz, $ 10. 75 million. Penn State has announced it's opening
- 7:59Speaker 1: the Paterno Family Football Experience Room in its All-Sports Museum
- 8:06Speaker 1: inside Beaver Stadium. A permanent museum experience, the school says,
- 8:13Speaker 1: will celebrate Penn State's football history here. and will include
- 8:18Speaker 1: a Joe Paterno exhibit featuring his original office desk and
- 8:25Speaker 1: workspace personal artifacts and a curated timeline documenting significant moments
- 8:34Speaker 1: of his more than six decades there. I'm assuming that
- 8:39Speaker 1: timeline will include Jerry Sandusky. It's a little over 14
- 8:46Speaker 1: years since the school removed Paterno's statue outside the stadium
- 8:52Speaker 1: in the wake of Sandusky's sexual assault crimes. They're playing
- 8:58Speaker 1: tennis at the U.S. Open. American Jessica Pagula was a
- 9:03Speaker 1: straight sets winner. Frances Tiafoe plays at 6 o'clock this evening.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Tiger Woods had his driver's license suspended for five years
- 9:16Speaker 1: in a plea deal in his DUI case today in Florida.
- 9:22Speaker 1: He will pay $ 1, 500 in fines, was found guilty of
- 9:24Speaker 1: careless driving. Thomas Bacadal, the state attorney, defended the decision
- 9:34Speaker 1: to accept the plea, saying he did what I think
- 9:38Speaker 1: is right. Judge Darren Steele told Woods that the suspended
- 9:44Speaker 1: license is for the safety of the public. There are
- 9:47Speaker 1: no exceptions. If you want to drive for any reason,
- 9:51Speaker 1: you would immediately go back to jail. The Dallas Stars
- 9:58Speaker 1: officially announced today they will have a new streaming platform
- 10:04Speaker 1: to broadcast their games, which start in another month plus.
- 10:09Speaker 1: The team has ended its two-year relationship with Victory Plus
- 10:13Speaker 1: and reached a deal with Amazon Prime to broadcast the
- 10:19Speaker 1: in-market games to fans this upcoming season. The league announced
- 10:24Speaker 1: it has reached a multi-year agreement with Prime as the
- 10:28Speaker 1: exclusive local streaming home for five other teams, Carolina, Anaheim, Columbus, Minnesota,
- 10:36Speaker 1: and the St. Louis Blues. Victory Plus is close to
- 10:40Speaker 1: going out of business. They were the Starz streaming company
- 10:45Speaker 1: until the Starz changed probably about four to six weeks ago,
- 10:51Speaker 1: give or take. Okay, that will catch you up on
- 10:58Speaker 1: some of what is going on, we hope. Well, that's
- 11:03Speaker 1: not true. I started to say.
- 11:04Speaker 6: We'll hope by tomorrow all of.
- 11:08Speaker 1: The LSU versus SEC versus NCAA will be over, but
- 11:13Speaker 1: that is not true. There will be other judges. There
- 11:17Speaker 1: will be other temporary restraining orders. There will be other
- 11:21Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin headlines. So I don't think it ends tomorrow.
- 11:27Speaker 1: It may give a guideline, may give to what happens
- 11:35Speaker 1: Saturday night at Death Valley. The thing is, neither of
- 11:40Speaker 1: these players, in my mind, are going to help LSU
- 11:44Speaker 1: win football games. I don't think. Could be wrong about that,
- 11:51Speaker 1: but I don't think. Okay. Tomorrow we have got our
- 11:58Speaker 1: Clark Eisenhower outdoor edition. We're going to hear, let's see,
- 12:06Speaker 1: who are we going to hear from? Mario Craver tomorrow.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Marcus Ratcliffe tomorrow. We will have a high school report tomorrow.
- 12:21Speaker 6: And we're going.
- 12:23Speaker 1: To take a float trip in Colorado tomorrow on the
- 12:26Speaker 1: outdoor edition.
- 12:27Speaker 6: Plus, of course, animal attack highlights.
- 12:32Speaker 1: That's tomorrow. Friday, I will visit with Kurt Bowles and
- 12:36Speaker 1: I will visit with Tony Catalina on Friday. All right.
- 12:42Speaker 6: I'm going to take a break. We'll come back.
- 12:45Speaker 1: This portion of the program is brought to you by
- 12:48Speaker 1: ANCO Insurance.
- 12:51Speaker 8: Anco Insurance is now a part of Hub International, bringing
- 12:54Speaker 8: you more choices, better value, and even greater expertise. While

- 13:13Speaker 8: behind us, more resources, more solutions, still your team. Anco Insurance,
- 13:17Speaker 8: a Hub International company, so you're ready for tomorrow.
- 13:21Speaker 3: You can hear Aggie football online at RadioAggieland.com.
- 13:48Speaker 2: You can't go home.
- 13:50Speaker 4: If you're going by the mill, cause the bridge washed
- 13:53Speaker 4: out at the bottom of the hill.
- 13:54Speaker 1: The big freaks up, little freaks.
- 13:56Speaker 9: Level, plow my car with a double shovel.
- 13:58Speaker 10: You gotta stay all night, stay a little longer, dance
- 14:01Speaker 10: all night.
- 14:02Speaker 4: Dance a little longer, pull off your coat, blow it
- 14:04Speaker 4: in the corner, don't see why you don't stay a
- 14:06Speaker 4: little longer.
- 14:07Speaker 3: Now you ought to see my blue-eyed Sabbath. It is
- 14:09Speaker 3: All Willie Wednesday.
- 14:10Speaker 4: That is from the Willie and Family.
- 14:11Speaker 9: Live album from Lake Tahoe.
- 14:13Speaker 3: It is fantastic.
- 14:13Speaker 1: It catches him when he is just at his absolute best. Playing, singing,
- 14:17Speaker 1: the band, the songs.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Uh, the music, everything about this album is just outstanding. Um,
- 14:50Speaker 1: so I highly recommend that particular album. It's, it's a
- 14:55Speaker 1: lot like the live at Budokan album from Japan. Uh,
- 15:01Speaker 1: this is when these guys were at the absolute top
- 15:06Speaker 1: of their game and it's, it's fun to listen to. Um,
- 15:11Speaker 1: What else do we have? I'm kind of stalling. We're
- 15:15Speaker 1: going to talk here in a minute to Daniel Dockery.
- 15:20Speaker 1: His book is called I Am the Knight, The Ultimate
- 15:25Speaker 1: Unauthorized History of Batman, the animated series.
- 15:30Speaker 6: It's pretty cool.
- 15:31Speaker 1: This animated series goes back like 33, 34 years, something
- 15:35Speaker 1: like that. So, I didn't grow up with this.
- 15:42Speaker 6: I'm old.
- 15:43Speaker 1: I grew up with the iconic TV show with Burt
- 15:48Speaker 1: Ward and Adam West, right? Grew up with the comic book,
- 15:52Speaker 1: but that TV show is unlike anything. With tongue planted
- 15:58Speaker 1: verbally in cheek. It was phenomenal. The actors that frequented
- 16:04Speaker 1: it was great. The pals and the ziffs and the
- 16:10Speaker 1: bams when they got in a fight was great. It
- 16:14Speaker 1: was cartoon violence. It took about 20 years for the
- 16:21Speaker 1: movies to start coming out. Once the movies started coming out, whoa,
- 16:28Speaker 1: there's Batman again. So Batman is a character that never
- 16:35Speaker 1: goes away. Right? I'm waiting for more Batman. I can't
- 16:44Speaker 1: get enough Batman. Now, I love me some Michael Keaton
- 16:48Speaker 1: as Batman. I gotta tell you that. I love me
- 16:51Speaker 1: some Jack Nicholson over-the-top Joker. Heath Ledger, obviously, probably the
- 17:00Speaker 1: definitive right bad guy. One of the definitive bad guys ever. Um,
- 17:09Speaker 1: Tim Curry voiced the Joker maybe for a year or
- 17:15Speaker 1: two in this animation series. Pretty amazing. All right, let's
- 17:20Speaker 1: jump out to the Polaris Fun Center phone line, visit
- 17:24Speaker 1: with Daniel Dockery, his book, I Am the Knight, the
- 17:28Speaker 1: Ultimate Unauthorized History of Batman, the Animated Series. Daniel, how
- 17:35Speaker 1: you doing?
- 17:36Speaker 10: I'm doing very good, Chip.
- 17:37Speaker 5: How are you doing?
- 17:38Speaker 1: Doing great. What led you to revisit this series 30
- 17:42Speaker 1: plus years after the fact?
- 17:45Speaker 10: You know, it's a series that I've never really left behind. But,
- 17:50Speaker 10: you know, it came time to kind of I wanted
- 17:52Speaker 10: to write a Batman book and I was trying to
- 17:55Speaker 10: figure out what would make for a good story. And
- 17:57Speaker 10: there was so much interesting stuff about the creation of
- 18:00Speaker 10: it and in the show itself that I thought, like,
- 18:02Speaker 10: you know, Batman the Animated Series.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Is a great show. Why isn't there a Batman the
- 18:05Speaker 1: Animated Series book like this?
- 18:06Speaker 10: And so eventually, you know, I thought, I'm just going
- 18:08Speaker 10: to write it myself.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Why and how has this character endured for so many years?
- 18:17Speaker 10: You know, I think more than any other superhero, Batman
- 18:20Speaker 10: is a creature of nature.
- 18:23Speaker 9: Of adaptation.
- 18:24Speaker 10: You know, if you're talking about the original Batman just
- 18:28Speaker 10: before World War II and just after the Depression has
- 18:30Speaker 10: kind of died down, he was a grim Avenger of
- 18:34Speaker 10: the Night. If you're a child of the 60s, you
- 18:36Speaker 10: remember the Adam West Bambiff Pal show. If you're a
- 18:40Speaker 10: child of the 80s, you remember Tim Burton and Michael
- 18:42Speaker 10: Keaton's Batman. If the 90s, Batman the Animated Series. Of
- 18:45Speaker 10: the 2000s, Christopher Nolan's. Of the 2010s, Ben Affleck's. And
- 18:50Speaker 10: of now, you get Robert Pattinson's Batman.
- 18:52Speaker 1: And all.
- 18:53Speaker 10: comic book versions and cartoons in between. So I think
- 18:56Speaker 10: Batman thrives is because he's so ripe for someone saying, okay,
- 19:01Speaker 10: I see Batman this way.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Yes.
- 19:03Speaker 10: And as long as you knock off a few, like
- 19:06Speaker 10: check off a few boxes, you can interpret Batman in
- 19:09Speaker 10: a thousand different ways.
- 19:12Speaker 1: You talk about the darkness of the overall character in
- 19:18Speaker 1: your mind, which obviously wasn't that with the TV show.
- 19:24Speaker 1: And the setting, especially of Gotham, that the movies went
- 19:29Speaker 1: back to, right? Gotham was almost dystopian, was it not?
- 19:34Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 19:36Speaker 10: Gotham, I think it was, you know, Gotham has always
- 19:41Speaker 10: been like, what if, you know, the New York City
- 19:44Speaker 10: planner designed hell?
- 19:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:46Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 19:46Speaker 10: It's a it's got a it's a very it's got
- 19:49Speaker 10: to be a yeah, it's it is outright dystopian. It's
- 19:54Speaker 10: this metropolitan area that has gone sour.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Tell our listeners about Bruce Tim, if you would.
- 20:02Speaker 10: So Bruce Timm, by the time of Batman the Animated Series,
- 20:05Speaker 10: he's working on Tiny Toon Adventures, which aren't as good
- 20:08Speaker 10: as the Looney Tunes cartoons he watched growing up, but
- 20:10Speaker 10: they pay the bills. And after spending the 80s just
- 20:14Speaker 10: kind of getting thrown around the industry and every once
- 20:17Speaker 10: in a while getting to do projects that he enjoys
- 20:19Speaker 10: before being thrown back into the mix, you know, he's
- 20:22Speaker 10: having a rough time. He's a little bit disillusioned. And
- 20:25Speaker 10: all of a sudden, Warner Brothers announces in the wake
- 20:28Speaker 10: of the massive hit that was the 1989 movie, they
- 20:31Speaker 10: want to do a Batman cartoon. And all of a sudden,
- 20:33Speaker 10: I think it's like he described it as like a
- 20:36Speaker 10: lightning strike. And he just pushed all his work off
- 20:38Speaker 10: his desk and began drawing Batman. And Bruce Timm's art style,
- 20:41Speaker 10: for anyone that's seen it, is so relatively simple, but
- 20:45Speaker 10: so iconic at the same time. And you can kind
- 20:49Speaker 10: of guess what character it is by like the silhouette
- 20:51Speaker 10: of it.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:52Speaker 10: That there's a, there's an immediacy to it and it
- 20:55Speaker 10: becomes really good for animation.
- 20:57Speaker 1: You write, I believe that Bruce Timm started drawing Batman
- 21:01Speaker 1: at a very early age, didn't he? Yes.
- 21:04Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 21:04Speaker 10: I think he, I think he said it's the first
- 21:06Speaker 10: character he can remember drawing.
- 21:09Speaker 6: Where does Steven Spielberg fit in this story?
- 21:12Speaker 10: So Steven Spielberg, you know, in the late eighties and
- 21:16Speaker 10: early nineties, Steven Spielberg is kind of at the, at,
- 21:19Speaker 10: one of the heights of his power. You know, Amblin
- 21:22Speaker 10: is producing his movies, but it's also producing other movies.
- 21:25Speaker 10: He's creating blockbusters like the Indiana Jones films. He's about
- 21:29Speaker 10: to dive into Jurassic Park in a few years. You know,
- 21:32Speaker 10: he's both a successful director and a successful producer. And
- 21:36Speaker 10: he loves cartoons. Steven Spielberg adores cartoons. When his other
- 21:40Speaker 10: work is gone, kind of like is not going well,
- 21:43Speaker 10: he has always enjoyed producing cartoons. And so he comes
- 21:47Speaker 10: into Warner Brothers, having produced a few cartoons already, and
- 21:50Speaker 10: he basically says he gives them the clout to add
- 21:54Speaker 10: resources that they normally wouldn't have had. He was like,
- 21:58Speaker 10: why don't we have orchestras? Cartoons used to have orchestras.
- 22:01Speaker 10: Why don't we have orchestras anymore? and Spielberg asked for
- 22:04Speaker 10: an orchestra, you get that man an orchestra. Um, so they,
- 22:08Speaker 10: you know, and that's just one example. In fact, it
- 22:10Speaker 10: was really about quality of cartoons. He wanted them to
- 22:13Speaker 10: look good. Um, he wanted to kind of give the
- 22:15Speaker 10: industry a sense of competition that it hadn't had for
- 22:18Speaker 10: a little while and make it really thrive. And so his,
- 22:21Speaker 10: his contribution was really invaluable. And it comes from the
- 22:24Speaker 10: fact that he really likes animation as a form.
- 22:27Speaker 1: I was interested in the Tim Curry story. Obviously we
- 22:30Speaker 1: just lost him a week or so ago, but tell,
- 22:34Speaker 1: tell that how he was involved in this project.
- 22:38Speaker 10: So Tim Curry at this time, you know, he's been
- 22:40Speaker 10: in Clue, he's been in Legend. He is kind of the, the,
- 22:43Speaker 10: one of the best like cult movie actors of all time.
- 22:46Speaker 10: And he does so much voice work because in voice work,
- 22:49Speaker 10: they let him play American characters and they let him
- 22:51Speaker 10: play any other kind of character that he wants to.
- 22:53Speaker 10: So he really likes that. And so he comes in
- 22:56Speaker 10: to do the Joker and he does a few episodes.
- 22:59Speaker 10: He's kind of missing this kind of manic energy that
- 23:01Speaker 10: they want. They let him go.
- 23:02Speaker 1: That's okay.
- 23:03Speaker 10: Within the next year, he has like 12 new voice
- 23:05Speaker 10: roles lined up. But when he shows up, everyone is
- 23:09Speaker 10: just starstruck because Tim Curry, and he's not just a,
- 23:13Speaker 10: he's not just, he's not necessarily a superstar actor, but
- 23:18Speaker 10: he's like, he's interesting. He's an interesting presence. He's a
- 23:21Speaker 10: cool guy. You want to be around him. Um, so yeah, they,
- 23:25Speaker 10: you know, he later voiced some characters for that and
- 23:28Speaker 10: later superhero cartoons. Um, but you know, everyone remembers Tim Curry.
- 23:32Speaker 10: It's like, oh my.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Gosh, you know, Dr.
- 23:34Speaker 10: Frank-a-ver is here.
- 23:35Speaker 1: But that, but bottom line, as you mentioned it in
- 23:38Speaker 1: the long run, it didn't work out.
- 23:41Speaker 10: No, it didn't work out. And Mark Hamill actually came in.
- 23:44Speaker 10: He wanted to be a writer on the show. He
- 23:46Speaker 10: ended up voice acting on the show for one of
- 23:49Speaker 10: the characters. He was like, I'd really like to play
- 23:50Speaker 10: a different character. And then he auditioned for the Joker
- 23:53Speaker 10: and they were like, oh my gosh, this is Luke Skywalker.
- 23:56Speaker 1: This is, he's fantastic.
- 23:58Speaker 10: And so I think it's Mark Hamill's greatest performance. He's
- 24:00Speaker 10: so wild and mean and funny. And like, just, he
- 24:05Speaker 10: has this such range.
- 24:07Speaker 1: And, and, As it turned out, he really liked doing characters,
- 24:12Speaker 1: did he not? I mean, he was trying to overcome
- 24:17Speaker 1: basically Star Wars. People go, no, we can't use him.
- 24:22Speaker 1: But behind the mic, he was great.
- 24:26Speaker 10: Yeah, he was really trying to break through it. He'd
- 24:28Speaker 10: been in the stage play for, I think it was Amadeus,
- 24:31Speaker 10: and then he wanted to be in the movie, and
- 24:32Speaker 10: they were like, we're not going to let Luke Skywalker
- 24:34Speaker 10: in this. Um, and so, but behind the mic and,
- 24:38Speaker 10: you know, later on now in his career, he can play,
- 24:40Speaker 10: you know, he plays a decent array of types, but
- 24:43Speaker 10: like behind the mic, he just shines. He's so good.
- 24:46Speaker 10: And he has so much, like, he has so much
- 24:48Speaker 10: depth to his voice that, uh, you know, it's hard
- 24:51Speaker 10: to think of a better actor for the Joker.
- 24:53Speaker 1: How would you describe the state of animation today? Oh,
- 24:57Speaker 1: it's a rough one.
- 24:58Speaker 10: Um, I have a lot of friends that work in
- 25:00Speaker 10: animation right now. And animation seems to be often like
- 25:04Speaker 10: the last concern for a lot of executives who get to,
- 25:08Speaker 10: you know, pull the strings and make those decisions. And
- 25:11Speaker 10: that's a shame because there's so many people working in
- 25:14Speaker 10: animation that are deeply talented and deeply driven right now.
- 25:17Speaker 10: And a lot of them were inspired by Batman animated series.
- 25:20Speaker 1: I grew up with the coyote and the road runner,
- 25:25Speaker 1: but I haven't, I haven't seen the movie yet. Do
- 25:28Speaker 1: you think that, that, any success in this movie, and
- 25:32Speaker 1: it almost wasn't released, would perhaps help kickstart another level
- 25:38Speaker 1: of animation?
- 25:40Speaker 10: I really hope it does. One thing I've seen on
- 25:42Speaker 10: social media is that this has prompted a lot of
- 25:44Speaker 10: people to share old Looney Tunes clips.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 25:47Speaker 10: Especially Coyote and Roadrunner. And it's so good.
- 25:50Speaker 1: It's such a good.
- 25:51Speaker 10: Example of physical comedy and slapstick and just this hapless
- 25:55Speaker 10: poor guy who wants to catch this bird forever. so
- 25:58Speaker 10: bad um it's you know and people are sharing them
- 26:01Speaker 10: and like kids of you know you see like kids
- 26:03Speaker 10: teenagers sharing how funny they think these looney tunes clips
- 26:07Speaker 10: they just discovered are and it's so good that this
- 26:09Speaker 10: can have such lasting power and if it does nothing
- 26:12Speaker 10: else like even if it doesn't start a new animation
- 26:14Speaker 10: renaissance at the very least it's brought members of a
- 26:17Speaker 10: new generation to look at these classic cartoons and think
- 26:20Speaker 10: wow this is really good stories they're really good Funny
- 26:23Speaker 10: pieces of work.
- 26:24Speaker 1: The book is called I Am the Night, The Ultimate
- 26:27Speaker 1: Unauthorized History of Batman, the Animated Series. Daniel Dockery is
- 26:31Speaker 1: the author. Daniel, thanks for your time. Appreciate it.
- 26:35Speaker 10: Thank you for having me, Chip. I appreciate it.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Yes, sir. And that was a pretty cool read right there.
- 26:42Speaker 1: And if you've seen Acme vs. Coyote, let me know.
- 26:47Speaker 1: I can't get anybody in my family to go with me.
- 26:50Speaker 1: My grandkids won't go with me. My wife won't go
- 26:53Speaker 1: with me. I really want to see Acme versus Coyote
- 26:56Speaker 1: because it looks funny. And it's gotten decent reviews. How
- 27:00Speaker 1: can it, you know, I know that it can be
- 27:04Speaker 1: screwed up. I know it can be screwed up. But, man,
- 27:08Speaker 1: you've got the Roadrunner and you've got the Coyote. If
- 27:10Speaker 1: you screw that up, that's on you. Like I said,
- 27:14Speaker 1: they almost didn't release this movie. They were just going
- 27:18Speaker 1: to trash can it. And I don't know if it
- 27:26Speaker 1: didn't test well. I don't know if they didn't think
- 27:30Speaker 1: that anybody was, you know. But the thing is, it
- 27:33Speaker 1: was weird. They've already spent most of the money. Now,
- 27:36Speaker 1: they haven't spent any money, you know, advertising, obviously. But
- 27:42Speaker 1: they'd already spent the money. That's what I didn't understand.
- 27:47Speaker 1: And I don't understand all the legal stuff and all that.
- 27:49Speaker 1: But the one thing that has happened, as Daniel mentioned,
- 27:58Speaker 1: is that you can't get on social media now without
- 28:02Speaker 1: seeing old clips of Coyote and the Roadrunner.
- 28:05Speaker 6: And I just laugh every time. They are just outstanding.
- 28:13Speaker 1: As he mentioned, as a result, not only are we
- 28:16Speaker 1: seeing Coyote Roadrunner clips, we're seeing Daffy Duck and Bugs
- 28:21Speaker 1: Bunny and Elber Fudd and Foghorn Laghorn and all of
- 28:25Speaker 1: the great Looney Tunes characters that were so funny and
- 28:31Speaker 1: so creative. And I know a lot of you grew
- 28:37Speaker 1: up with that.
- 28:40Speaker 6: And we've talked about this before.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Our Saturday morning animated TV shows were so good. And
- 28:48Speaker 1: then they just became garbage. Like overnight, it became garbage.
- 28:54Speaker 1: And then it wasn't animated, but it was almost filmed.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Like it was an animated show. Peewee's playhouse came along
- 29:04Speaker 1: and there was nothing more inventive than that.
- 29:07Speaker 6: That was just top notch.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Um, So I do hope that this may bring back
- 29:17Speaker 1: good animation. Like, I don't need even so many children's
- 29:25Speaker 1: films now have to have political messages. It just ruins everything. Disney,
- 29:34Speaker 1: the most woke corporation in the world, ruins everything. Walt
- 29:40Speaker 1: Disney's turning over in his grave. But if we could
- 29:45Speaker 1: find people who would make cartoons like this again and
- 29:50Speaker 1: not have to put their own personal politics in there, man,
- 29:55Speaker 1: I would love that. Is that the game?
- 29:58Speaker 6: Good gosh.
- 30:00Speaker 1: One of the worst games of the year. And that's
- 30:03Speaker 1: saying something with this Rangers team, by the way. When
- 30:06Speaker 1: you say they have played one of the worst games
- 30:09Speaker 1: of the year, this is one of the worst games
- 30:12Speaker 1: of the year. This is a team, the Rangers, that
- 30:16Speaker 1: were darn near unbeatable when scoring first in the game.
- 30:21Speaker 1: They got a home run in the first inning. They
- 30:24Speaker 1: got a home run in the second inning. They're at
- 30:26Speaker 1: home against the worst team in baseball. They have a
- 30:29Speaker 1: 2-0 lead. They've scored 16 runs the last two games.
- 30:33Speaker 9: Okay?
- 30:34Speaker 1: They're up 2-0. Then Oakland, in consecutive innings, in the third, fourth,
- 30:42Speaker 1: and fifth innings, scores eight runs. The final, 9-2. They
- 30:51Speaker 1: cannot get to. 500.
- 30:53Speaker 6: They're now back to two games under.
- 30:56Speaker 5: 500.
- 30:59Speaker 1: And you just hope the Astros get their rear ends
- 31:03Speaker 1: beat tonight after losing last night to the White Sox.
- 31:09Speaker 6: It's just so frustrating.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Galleria has been part of our community since 1993. Talk

- 34:22Speaker 4: Oh, I guess that I'm doing fine.
- 34:31Speaker 6: Willie and family live. This was recorded at Lake Tahoe back.
- 34:35Speaker 5: In the 1978 chip.
- 34:37Speaker 6: Was it 78?
- 34:38Speaker 1: Are you sure?
- 34:39Speaker 8: Wow.
- 34:40Speaker 6: No wonder he sounds so good.
- 34:42Speaker 1: I had this on vinyl.
- 34:43Speaker 5: I had it on cassette and I have it on CD.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 34:46Speaker 6: It's an amazing record.
- 34:48Speaker 1: It really is. Uh, I want to get to this.
- 34:52Speaker 1: I printed this out earlier this week. It's the Astros
- 34:55Speaker 1: Media Wall of Honor, okay, that they do every year.
- 35:03Speaker 1: And they have three nominees. Let me do the original,
- 35:11Speaker 1: the people that are already in the Astros Media Wall
- 35:13Speaker 1: of Honor, okay? They started this in 2007. to honor
- 35:19Speaker 1: media who have long-time association with the Houston Astros and
- 35:22Speaker 1: have made a difference. Anita Martini, Gene Elston, Neal Holfeld,
- 35:28Speaker 1: Mickey Herskowitz, Bill Brown, Milo Hamilton, Rene Cardenas, Alex Trevino,
- 35:36Speaker 1: Harry Shattuck, Mark Berman, Bob Allen, Karen Warren, Larry Durker,
- 35:43Speaker 1: Kevin Eschenfelder, Jamie Hildreth, He's a longtime producer.
- 35:47Speaker 6: Of Astro's network.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Phil Boudreau, who also produced and I worked with back in.
- 35:55Speaker 4: The 80s.
- 35:57Speaker 6: Alan Ashby and Bill Worrell.
- 35:59Speaker 1: Wait, producers get honored? How about that?
- 36:02Speaker 5: That's crazy talk.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Here is the three that will be voted on.
- 36:08Speaker 5: Okay.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Ralph Cooper, who.
- 36:12Speaker 5: K-H-O... K-O.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Not K-H-O-U.
- 36:16Speaker 5: It's O-H.
- 36:19Speaker 1: K-O-H-O?
- 36:21Speaker 5: Yes.
- 36:21Speaker 1: I think it's K-O-H-O. Yeah.
- 36:24Speaker 6: Ralph has been around just forever.
- 36:26Speaker 5: He was there when you were there.
- 36:27Speaker 1: He was there when I was there. We talked every night.
- 36:31Speaker 1: He belongs there. Yep. David Delati.
- 36:35Speaker 5: Okay.
- 36:35Speaker 1: David Delati lived in the shadows of Barry Warner and
- 36:40Speaker 1: Mark Burman. Uh, he worked and how he did, I
- 36:44Speaker 1: don't know, but he worked for them forever. He has
- 36:47Speaker 1: seen over 3000 or 3,500 Houston Astro games, not as a,
- 36:54Speaker 1: as a media member. He has covered over 3000 Astro games.
- 36:58Speaker 5: Okay.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Yeah. And Matt Thomas, who has not been there quite
- 37:03Speaker 1: as long as David Delati or Ralph Cooper. Yeah. Um,
- 37:08Speaker 1: So the people who vote are those who get season credentials,
- 37:15Speaker 1: and they are allowed one vote. Okay? So they can't
- 37:19Speaker 1: vote for all three.
- 37:20Speaker 9: So this sounds like the hall of you've got to be.
- 37:23Speaker 5: Good to get on here.
- 37:23Speaker 1: You've got to be good to get in here, right? But,
- 37:25Speaker 1: I mean, these three guys vote.
- 37:27Speaker 9: They will all be in it.
- 37:29Speaker 1: They'll all eventually be there.
- 37:31Speaker 9: Yes, in the next two years.
- 37:32Speaker 6: My vote would go to Ralph for just— Longevity, right?
- 37:36Speaker 1: And everything.
- 37:37Speaker 5: And fine reporting.
- 37:39Speaker 1: And reporting. And a guy who, let's be honest, he
- 37:43Speaker 1: worked for a primarily African-American radio station. And this was 1980, right? 79, 80, 81, 82.
- 37:54Speaker 6: First of all, back then, there weren't that many, okay?
- 37:56Speaker 6: There just weren't.
- 38:00Speaker 1: And there weren't many.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Media people of color in the city of Houston did.
- 38:07Speaker 5: Yes.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Ralph was a pioneer, and so he belongs there.
- 38:14Speaker 9: K-C-O-H.
- 38:16Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 38:16Speaker 1: That's what it is.
- 38:17Speaker 6: I knew the other didn't sound right.
- 38:19Speaker 1: K-C-O-H.
- 38:19Speaker 12: Wait a minute.
- 38:20Speaker 11: Wait, wait.
- 38:20Speaker 9: Mission Impossible.
- 38:21Speaker 1: Mission Impossible.
- 38:23Speaker 6: Mission Impossible.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Friday's Fearless Football Forecast Contest brought to you by Chad

- 39:18Speaker 1: your picks. Don't be late. Don't call me. Don't tell

- 39:27Speaker 1: now and five o'clock on Friday. And next week, we'll
- 39:32Speaker 1: give away prizes, but it will be next Tuesday because
- 39:35Speaker 1: we've got the Monday night game on there, okay? So
- 39:39Speaker 1: next Tuesday, we'll begin giving away weekly prizes. And some
- 39:44Speaker 1: person or persons, more likely after just one week, Will
- 39:49Speaker 1: be tied for the chase for Lord Howard's Cup.
- 39:53Speaker 9: And after you submit your picks.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Yes.
- 39:57Speaker 5: You get an email from Chip Howard.
- 39:58Speaker 1: You should get an email.
- 39:59Speaker 9: If you don't get the email.
- 40:01Speaker 1: Correct. Let me know. No, don't let me know.
- 40:04Speaker 5: No, you didn't do something right.
- 40:05Speaker 6: That's correct.
- 40:06Speaker 9: Because I just got done and I just got my email.
- 40:09Speaker 1: That's good because I was on the phone quite a
- 40:12Speaker 1: bit with Matt.
- 40:13Speaker 6: Trying to get everything straightened out.
- 40:15Speaker 1: And it has to do with the number of people.
- 40:18Speaker 1: This happens every year. Yes. They break the Internet.
- 40:21Speaker 5: Yes.
- 40:21Speaker 12: Right.
- 40:22Speaker 9: Because this is America's most loved pick'em game.
- 40:24Speaker 1: It is America's most loved and the longest running pick'em game.
- 40:29Speaker 1: And so just make sure you're getting the emails.
- 40:33Speaker 6: Make sure you get a return. Make sure you put
- 40:37Speaker 6: your correct email, your phone number.
- 40:40Speaker 1: Make sure you pick only one time. Make sure you
- 40:43Speaker 1: don't make up other names and other phone numbers because
- 40:47Speaker 1: we will catch you. And I'll never let you play again.
- 40:51Speaker 1: If you're that desperate to get your name on the cup,
- 40:55Speaker 1: you will never win another prize for me. And don't
- 40:58Speaker 1: even talk to me if you're cheating in a pick-em game.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Because we've caught people before. We have. And I... I
- 41:07Speaker 1: just watched Jack Ryan's Shadow Recruit last night, first time
- 41:11Speaker 1: I've seen it. Also on last night was Quantum of Solace.
- 41:15Speaker 1: Not the best Bond movie, but Daniel Craig was the Bond.
- 41:19Speaker 1: So I will send people after you. After watching those
- 41:23Speaker 1: two movies back-to-back last night, I will find out where
- 41:26Speaker 1: you live.
- 41:27Speaker 6: In fact, I know where you live. I've got your
- 41:29Speaker 6: phone number.
- 41:30Speaker 1: I'll get your address.
- 41:31Speaker 6: Okay.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Scott and I will be back.
- 41:34Speaker 6: We've got other topics.
- 41:36Speaker 1: The Astros report is brought to you by Oscar &

- 42:51Speaker 17: The Houston Astros started strong defensively but needed more bats
- 42:54Speaker 17: last night as the White Sox took Game 2 of
- 42:56Speaker 17: the series by a final score of 5-1. Astros rookie
- 42:59Speaker 17: starter Ronnell Blanco opened up the game with four scoreless innings.
- 43:02Speaker 17: He finished with only three hits allowed. Chicago found their
- 43:05Speaker 17: offense in the fifth with back-to-back RBI swings from Andrew
- 43:08Speaker 17: Benatendi and Colson Montgomery. Randall Gurchuk would extend the Chicago
- 43:12Speaker 17: lead to four runs in the seventh with a two
- 43:13Speaker 17: RBI double. Isaac Paredes would finally get Houston on the
- 43:16Speaker 17: board in the bottom of the eighth with this long ball.
- 43:19Speaker 16: Paredes hits it a mile high, pretty deep to left.
- 43:22Speaker 16: Antonacci is back on the warning track in front of
- 43:24Speaker 16: the out-of-town scoreboard, looks up, and that's gone. Just did
- 43:28Speaker 16: sneak into the Lantry's Crawford boxes for Paredes' 18th of
- 43:32Speaker 16: the year. It's 5-1 White Sox.
- 43:36Speaker 17: Game three between the White Sox and Astros is set
- 43:38Speaker 17: for 7-10 tonight. With your Houston Astros report, I'm Jett Nelson.

- 45:25Speaker 18: Member FDIC.
- 45:30Speaker 9: And when the evening sun goes down.
- 45:34Speaker 4: You're going to find me hanging around. Nightlife ain't no
- 45:45Speaker 4: good life.
- 45:45Speaker 1: This was back when he was doing Nightlife. Crazy and
- 45:52Speaker 1: funny how time slips away as a trilogy in every
- 45:56Speaker 1: concert he did.
- 45:57Speaker 9: And I miss that.
- 45:59Speaker 1: I miss it, too. I've got to say.
- 46:01Speaker 5: This is a, this, for the snapshot being 1978.
- 46:07Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 46:08Speaker 9: So it does include Angels Flying Too.
- 46:10Speaker 6: Close to the Ground.
- 46:10Speaker 1: It does, yeah.
- 46:11Speaker 5: Okay. Up until that point in time.
- 46:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:14Speaker 5: This is the quintessential live.
- 46:16Speaker 6: There's no doubt about that. No question about that.
- 46:18Speaker 9: Now, Johnny Paycheck's in it.
- 46:20Speaker 1: He is. You can also go after that to live
- 46:26Speaker 1: at Budokan, which is in Japan. And Grady Martin traveled
- 46:31Speaker 1: with that group then. And Mickey Raphael is the one
- 46:36Speaker 1: that found it, put it all together, produced it and
- 46:39Speaker 1: put it out about.
- 46:41Speaker 6: Five, six, seven years ago.
- 46:43Speaker 1: And I will say it's very close to this album
- 46:49Speaker 1: in terms of the band just being, you know, Bobby
- 46:53Speaker 1: obviously is there just being on top of their game.
- 46:58Speaker 6: And Mickey says that too. He goes, this was, you
- 47:01Speaker 6: want to.
- 47:02Speaker 1: Hear, you know, Willie and family band on top of
- 47:08Speaker 1: their game. Live at Budokan will do that for you.
- 47:11Speaker 1: And this one does too. All right, let's start with this.
- 47:15Speaker 1: And I still haven't gotten over this, and I don't
- 47:17Speaker 1: have an answer to this, and I wish the people
- 47:19Speaker 1: in Dallas would ask this question.
- 47:22Speaker 3: Scott?
- 47:23Speaker 1: All right.
- 47:24Speaker 6: Did you watch TCU North Carolina?
- 47:27Speaker 1: Any of it?
- 47:27Speaker 3: Yes.
- 47:28Speaker 1: It's embarrassing. It's as embarrassing for TCU this year as
- 47:32Speaker 1: it was for North Carolina last year, in my opinion. Okay.
- 47:34Speaker 5: Okay.
- 47:36Speaker 9: I felt like Sonny Dykes after the game was a
- 47:38Speaker 9: little prickly.
- 47:39Speaker 1: Yeah, he was a little prickly.
- 47:41Speaker 5: Well, some of those letters being used.
- 47:46Speaker 1: Yeah. So the kid who was kicked unconscious until he
- 47:53Speaker 1: had a brain bleed, a shoulder injury, and a concussion, Azuconma,
- 48:01Speaker 1: My question has been for the last two days since
- 48:04Speaker 1: this morning news story came out on Sunday. I talked
- 48:07Speaker 1: to Louie about it this morning. Were they the only
- 48:11Speaker 1: two in the locker room when this happened?
- 48:13Speaker 2: No.
- 48:15Speaker 1: Where was the team?
- 48:16Speaker 9: Watching the fight.
- 48:18Speaker 1: Who stands around and watches a player get kicked unconscious?
- 48:21Speaker 1: Your teammate. Who does that? Who does that?
- 48:27Speaker 5: Well, the code red was ordered, Chip.
- 48:31Speaker 1: Did you order the code red? I mean, seriously.
- 48:36Speaker 9: Actually, there could have been not a full locker room.
- 48:40Speaker 1: I hope there wasn't anybody there.
- 48:41Speaker 5: Right, but there could be them the only ones to
- 48:45Speaker 5: a few. And, Chip, I've never been in TCU's locker.
- 48:49Speaker 5: It might be that they've got a blind spot.
- 48:53Speaker 1: That's a good– you know, I hadn't thought about that
- 48:56Speaker 1: because these locker rooms are a lot larger than they
- 48:58Speaker 1: used to be. Right.
- 49:00Speaker 6: A lot larger. I really would like to hear the
- 49:04Speaker 6: answer to that question.
- 49:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 49:07Speaker 6: Were there other players watching this happen?
- 49:10Speaker 5: I don't think the Star-Telegram is getting an answer for that.
- 49:15Speaker 1: Yeah, but the Dallas Morning News is now on it.
- 49:18Speaker 1: They've decided they're going to cover TCU. for a little while.
- 49:22Speaker 5: Positive stories.
- 49:25Speaker 1: They won't be getting a credential to go to the game.
- 49:27Speaker 1: Let's put it that way.
- 49:28Speaker 5: Okay.
- 49:29Speaker 1: But they're going to cover this story. And they have
- 49:32Speaker 1: broken two stories since Sunday when Fields turned himself in
- 49:37Speaker 1: and was released on $ 50, 000, what the exact charges were.
- 49:41Speaker 1: And then this story that came out, which was what
- 49:46Speaker 1: I don't understand. Maybe the police just released the report.
- 49:49Speaker 5: The arrest report, yes, yes.
- 49:51Speaker 1: That could be it. And that's what appeared in their
- 49:56Speaker 1: second follow-up story was the kid coming up to him
- 50:00Speaker 1: with a closed fist, punching him in the head, knocking
- 50:04Speaker 1: him either out of his chair or off his stool
- 50:06Speaker 1: in the locker room, and then kicking him until he
- 50:09Speaker 1: was unconscious.
- 50:10Speaker 7: Yes.
- 50:10Speaker 1: And the trainer, after the police were finally called, and
- 50:14Speaker 1: I don't know how long that took. I don't know
- 50:16Speaker 1: how long it took EMTs to be called, okay? I'm
- 50:20Speaker 1: not certain about that. But in the police report, the
- 50:26Speaker 1: trainer told them, this is a life or death situation.
- 50:31Speaker 1: You need to get this kid to the hospital. And
- 50:35Speaker 1: he was right, by the way. He was in the
- 50:37Speaker 1: hospital three days. Yeah. Right? So if you find out
- 50:46Speaker 1: that there were players in the locker room that saw
- 50:50Speaker 1: this happen, that is the second most problematic thing of
- 50:55Speaker 1: this story as far as I'm concerned. I don't know
- 50:58Speaker 1: how you feel about that, but I can't imagine. When
- 51:03Speaker 1: Clint Longley sucker punched Roger Staubach and went in for more,
- 51:12Speaker 1: He didn't have a chance. Right.
- 51:14Speaker 10: Right?
- 51:15Speaker 1: There was no chance to do that.
- 51:16Speaker 5: Yes.
- 51:16Speaker 1: Look, fights happen on the practice field all the time.
- 51:20Speaker 1: Some fights happen in the locker room. That's not unusual.
- 51:24Speaker 1: And you don't hear about it. That's not unusual. This
- 51:28Speaker 1: is a whole new level of assault with intent to
- 51:35Speaker 1: do bodily harm.
- 51:36Speaker 5: But we're also in a whole new world as far.
- 51:39Speaker 1: As— Guys with their phones instead of stopping the fight?
- 51:43Speaker 9: How do you know that isn't happening? We don't know
- 51:45Speaker 9: that here.
- 51:46Speaker 5: What upset me as much as anything about this was
- 51:49Speaker 5: the report on WFAA two days ago.
- 51:52Speaker 6: Okay.
- 51:53Speaker 9: That the reason why Fields beat him.
- 51:56Speaker 1: Was because he was being beaten at practice?
- 51:59Speaker 9: He was losing his spot in practice.
- 52:02Speaker 1: Right.
- 52:02Speaker 5: This guy was outperforming him.
- 52:04Speaker 1: Right.
- 52:05Speaker 5: Okay?
- 52:06Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's what he said. Yes, exactly.
- 52:09Speaker 5: And I just, you know, the best players play. That
- 52:16Speaker 5: is what sports is about. It's not about you pulling
- 52:21Speaker 5: a Tonya Harding.
- 52:23Speaker 1: Yeah, but we're living in a world, Scott, and you
- 52:25Speaker 1: know this. We're living in a world that guys will
- 52:29Speaker 1: walk down the street and knock out a random person
- 52:33Speaker 1: so it will be on video because they'll have a friend.
- 52:36Speaker 6: Videoing that, right?
- 52:38Speaker 1: Yes. They will just go and blindside a person and
- 52:41Speaker 1: knock them out and post that because they think it's funny.
- 52:45Speaker 8: Right.
- 52:45Speaker 1: Okay.
- 52:48Speaker 6: Now, I am not giving this kid a pass.
- 52:52Speaker 1: There is nothing.
- 52:53Speaker 5: No, but I'm just saying it's even worse to me, okay,
- 52:58Speaker 5: that in the world of competition, in the world of athletics,
- 53:05Speaker 5: why did Clint Longley– Punch out Roger Stolbeck because he
- 53:09Speaker 5: couldn't beat him out.
- 53:10Speaker 1: Correct.
- 53:11Speaker 5: Why did Nancy, why was Nancy Kerrigan's leg broken by
- 53:15Speaker 5: Tanya Hardy?
- 53:16Speaker 7: Right.
- 53:16Speaker 9: Because she couldn't beat her, beat them out.
- 53:18Speaker 10: Right.
- 53:18Speaker 5: Okay. If you can't beat somebody out, you work harder.
- 53:23Speaker 5: You don't assault them or these kind of things to try. Okay. Well,
- 53:28Speaker 5: you know what? If he's gone, then I've got my
- 53:31Speaker 5: job back. I get the boosters. So give me my NIL.
- 53:37Speaker 1: Yeah. That, That's just crazy. That's crazy.
- 53:41Speaker 5: But for TCU to act like, once again, this is
- 53:47Speaker 5: not a story.
- 53:48Speaker 1: Not a story, not a big deal. Just boys being
- 53:51Speaker 1: boys in the locker room.
- 53:55Speaker 9: It wasn't not a big deal when.
- 54:00Speaker 5: This last week the football player died because of– or
- 54:04Speaker 5: three weeks ago when the football player died because of
- 54:06Speaker 5: the workout.
- 54:07Speaker 1: High school kid.
- 54:08Speaker 3: Yes.
- 54:08Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 54:09Speaker 5: Or when Maryland, when the player was– who was having problems.
- 54:13Speaker 1: During workouts.
- 54:14Speaker 5: During workouts, having problems, and the strength and conditioning guy
- 54:17Speaker 5: was like, well, we have to get tough around here.
- 54:20Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 54:20Speaker 5: The head coach has told me we need to get tough,
- 54:22Speaker 5: so you have to tough it out.
- 54:24Speaker 8: Okay?
- 54:25Speaker 1: Okay. That coach ended up here for a while. Durkin. Yeah. Yes.
- 54:30Speaker 5: But the coach didn't say, PT the guys until they died.
- 54:34Speaker 5: He says, you need to have a tough attitude.
- 54:36Speaker 6: I understand.
- 54:37Speaker 5: And the person who was in charge of that took
- 54:40Speaker 5: it to the wrong thing. He's lucky he's alive because
- 54:44Speaker 5: the trainer, whoever notified the trainer that he was down,
- 54:51Speaker 5: Even if they were only watching it, whoever went and
- 54:53Speaker 5: told the trainer and saved his life, that's important.
- 54:56Speaker 6: I want to go back to TCU just a minute.
- 54:58Speaker 1: Aside from what looks like a bad football team, and
- 55:05Speaker 1: maybe not, I expect a lot, everybody expects more out
- 55:08Speaker 1: of this quarterback who wasn't very good on Saturday. Is
- 55:11Speaker 1: their season done?
- 55:13Speaker 7: Yes.
- 55:14Speaker 1: That's what I'm thinking.
- 55:15Speaker 5: Nobody who has played in these overs.
- 55:16Speaker 1: Is the coach done?
- 55:18Speaker 6: He just signed a contract extension up there.
- 55:21Speaker 5: I'm not going to say he's done because Patterson signed
- 55:24Speaker 5: a contract extension and then still hung on a couple years.
- 55:29Speaker 5: But season-wise, nobody that has gone over on these foreign
- 55:34Speaker 5: trips and got humiliated has come back and had a
- 55:37Speaker 5: good season yet. None of them.
- 55:40Speaker 1: North Carolina last year. Last year, the year before, neither. Well,
- 55:46Speaker 1: that was Kansas State and Iowa State last year, and
- 55:48Speaker 1: they were both terrible.
- 55:49Speaker 12: Mm-hmm.
- 55:50Speaker 1: And you said, man, that's ugly. And it turned out
- 55:52Speaker 1: they were both not very good. And I still say
- 55:54Speaker 1: that's probably the situation with these two teams.
- 55:57Speaker 6: They're both not very good.
- 55:58Speaker 1: Right.
- 55:59Speaker 12: Okay.

- 58:08Speaker 1: I remember being in Columbia last year as Alabama had
- 58:11Speaker 1: to hold off Missouri on the final drive.
- 58:13Speaker 7: Paul, we were in the grind of the SEC schedule.
- 58:17Speaker 7: Do not bring up that asterisk against the Mizzou Tigers.
- 58:21Speaker 7: They have never beaten Alabama in this century, and they
